Abstract
Description
[Technical Field]
[0001] The present invention relates to spray guides and apparatus for defining the shape of a marking fluid sprayed onto a surface. The present invention relates primarily, but not exclusively, to apparatus for spraying lines on surfaces such as roads, parking lots, factory and gym floors, sports courts and playing areas, playgrounds and sports fields. The present invention further relates to a wheeled line drawing apparatus and components thereof, including an aerosol actuation device and a stabilization and line width adjustment mechanism. [Background technology]
[0002] Known spray or marking devices include a conventional aerosol of marking fluid (without a dip tube) that is mounted inverted on a wheeled carriage so that when the aerosol nozzle is triggered to open, the marking fluid is sprayed downward as a line on the surface over which the device is traveling.
[0003] One problem associated with such devices is that the sprayed line may lack sharp edge definition due to the pattern and distribution of the marking fluid as sprayed. Typically, this has been controlled by some form of spray guide, mask, or shield to limit lateral spray of the marking fluid. However, such spray guides, masks, or shields can accumulate "droplets" of the sprayed marking fluid, which can then spill outside the sprayed line.
[0004] Another problem associated with such devices is a lack of lateral stability. The simplest drawing devices include a pair of wheels between which the drawing fluid is sprayed. The wheels set the line width and therefore lack lateral stability when they are close together. This can cause the carriage to "rock" as it travels, resulting in, for example, a meandering line. Adding stabilizing wheels can limit the ability to spray a line close to a wall or other similar obstacle.
[0005] A further problem is that aerosols are typically operated by positioning the spray nozzle in a fixed mount and then pressing the body of the aerosol can down against the mount to open the spring-loaded nozzle valve, which can result in the accidental discharge of the aerosol when, for example, even a small downward force is accidentally applied to the aerosol can when the spray device encounters an irregularity in or on the surface being sprayed. Summary of the Invention [Problem to be solved by the invention]
[0006] Accordingly, it is an object of the present invention to improve a spray guide or mask that defines the shape of a marking fluid as it is sprayed onto a surface. A further object of the present invention is, for example, to provide a spray guide or mask that is easy to clean. In some aspects of the present invention, it is an object to provide a spray guide or mask that is easy to repair. In some aspects of the present invention, it is an object to provide a spray device that is capable of drawing lines with sharper edges on a surface. In some aspects of the present invention, it is an object to provide a spray device that reduces waste of sprayed fluid, etc.
[0007] It is also an object of the present invention to improve the steering of wheeled wire drawing machines, particularly by providing better stability on uneven surfaces, and to improve the stabilization of such machines. [Means for solving the problem]
[0008] Aspects of the present invention provide a spray guide for use in a spray device to define the shape of a marking fluid as it is sprayed onto a surface, the spray guide comprising a flexible portion.
[0009] This allows a portion of the spray guide, particularly the flexible portion, to be positioned closer to or even in contact with the surface being sprayed, which has the advantage of reducing the gap between the spray guide and the surface being sprayed, thus allowing for a line with sharper edges to be sprayed, and may make the spray guide easier to clean, less susceptible to damage during use, etc.
[0010] In certain embodiments, the flexible portion of the spray guide is disposed at least in the portion of the spray guide that, in operation, is closest to the surface to be sprayed.
[0011] This reduces the gap between the surface being sprayed and the spray guide, which has the advantage of producing sharper edges in the sprayed line.
[0012] In certain embodiments, the spray guide comprises an engagement mechanism that allows for releasable engagement with the spraying device or the masking plate of the spraying device.
[0013] That is, in certain embodiments, the spray guide comprises an engagement mechanism, the engagement mechanism can allow for releasable engagement with the spraying device, and the engagement mechanism can allow for releasable engagement of the spraying device with the masking plate.
[0014] In some embodiments, the engagement mechanism for detachably engaging the spray guide to the spray device or the spray device's masking plate includes an aperture. The aperture can be configured to receive one or more corresponding pegs on the spray device or the spray device's masking plate. In some embodiments, the engagement mechanism for detachably engaging the spray guide to the spray device or the spray device's masking plate includes a threaded aperture. The threaded aperture can be configured to receive one or more corresponding threaded pegs, bolts, etc. on the spray device or the spray device's masking plate. In some embodiments, the engagement mechanism for detachably engaging the spray guide to the spray device or the spray device's masking plate includes a push-in mechanism, a friction-fit mechanism, or a snap-fit mechanism.
[0015] This provides the advantage that the spray guide is easily replaceable for maintenance, cleaning or repair.
[0016] In certain embodiments, the flexible section slopes inward toward the surface being sprayed.
[0017] In certain embodiments, the flexible portion is inclined inwardly toward the marking fluid path during use. In certain embodiments, the flexible portion is inclined on the side of the flexible portion that faces the spray. That is, in certain embodiments, an angle is formed between the flexible portion and the vertical line, i.e., the longitudinal axis. This angle can be considered the angle of inclination. In certain embodiments, the surface of the flexible portion is inclined inwardly. In certain embodiments, the surface of the flexible portion is inclined inwardly toward the marking fluid path during use. In certain embodiments, the surface of the flexible portion is inclined on the side of the flexible portion that faces the spray.
[0018] This provides the advantage that the marking fluid can be directed more precisely, resulting in sharper edges in the sprayed line.
[0019] In certain embodiments, the flexible section is tilted from vertical between 0 and 20 degrees, i.e., forms an angle or tilt angle between 0 and 20 degrees relative to the vertical or longitudinal axis, i.e., can form an angle or tilt angle between 0 and 20 degrees (excluding both 0 and 20 degrees).
[0020] In certain embodiments, the flexible segment is tilted at an angle between 0 and 20 degrees. In some examples, the flexible segment is tilted at an angle between 0 and 20 degrees (excluding 0 degrees and including 20 degrees). The tilt angle may have a lower limit of 0, 5, 10, or 15 degrees, or any integer value therebetween. The tilt angle may have an upper limit of 5, 10, 15, or 20 degrees, or any integer value therebetween. In some examples, the flexible segment can be tilted at an angle of 0, 5, 10, 15, or 20 degrees, or any integer value therebetween.
[0021] In certain embodiments, the flexible portion is inclined 5 degrees from vertical. In certain embodiments, the flexible portion is inclined 5 degrees from vertical on the side of the flexible portion facing the spray. In certain embodiments, the flexible portion is inclined 5 degrees from vertical on one side of the flexible portion.
[0022] This provides the advantage that the marking fluid can be directed more precisely, resulting in sharper edges in the sprayed line.
[0023] In certain embodiments, the flexible portion comprises at least one tooth.
[0024] The teeth may be any protrusions that, in use, extend generally downwardly toward the area to be sprayed. In other words, the at least one tooth extends generally downwardly in use. Suitably, the at least one tooth is positioned extending generally downwardly on a lower edge of the flexible portion. In some embodiments, the flexible portion comprises at least one tooth disposed on a lower portion of the flexible portion. In some embodiments, the spray guide comprises at least one tooth disposed on a lower portion of the spray guide.
[0025] This provides the advantage of reducing the gap between the surface being sprayed and the spray guide. For example, it allows paint to flow continuously from the spray guide to the ground, thereby providing a uniform amount of marking fluid to the surface. Furthermore, the tines contact the surface being sprayed during use, thereby eliminating the gap and / or allowing the marking fluid to brush the surface being sprayed. The tines therefore result in sharper edges in the sprayed line.
[0026] In certain embodiments, the flexible portion comprises a plurality of teeth.
[0027] In some embodiments, the flexible portion comprises three teeth. In some embodiments, the flexible portion comprises five teeth. In some embodiments, the flexible portion comprises seven teeth. In some embodiments, the flexible portion comprises between one and ten teeth. In some embodiments, the flexible portion comprises between three and seven teeth.
[0028] In certain embodiments, the teeth extend from a lower surface, surface or face of the flexible portion towards the surface to be sprayed. In some embodiments, the flexible portion comprises a plurality of teeth disposed on a lower portion of the flexible portion. In some embodiments, the spray guide comprises a plurality of teeth disposed on a lower portion of the spray guide. In some embodiments, the teeth are arranged in rows. In some embodiments, the teeth protrude from a lower edge of the flexible portion or the body of the spray guide. Suitably, the rows of teeth can be arranged in rows, one behind the other, with the rows of teeth having a longitudinal axis parallel to the direction of travel in use.
[0029] This provides the advantage that the marking fluid is distributed along two or more regions of the flexible portion, providing a uniform amount of marking fluid along multiple regions of the flexible portion, which results in sharper edges in the sprayed line. Each tooth can hold a certain amount of marking fluid.
[0030] In certain embodiments, the teeth are of equal vertical length, i.e., each tooth or teeth may have equal or substantially equal vertical length relative to the other teeth, i.e., identical or substantially identical.
[0031] In certain embodiments, the teeth have different vertical lengths, i.e., each tooth or teeth may have an unequal, unequal, or different vertical length relative to the other teeth.
[0032] In some embodiments, the tines are equal in length, in other words, they protrude an equal distance from the flexible portion or body of the spray guide.
[0033] In some embodiments, the tines are unequal in length, in other words, at least one tine of the plurality of tines protrudes a different distance from the flexible portion or body of the spray guide than at least one other tine.
[0034] In certain embodiments, one or more central teeth are provided that are longer in a direction perpendicular to the direction of travel in use than the tooth or teeth at the front or rear end of the flexible section.
[0035] That is, there may be one or more central teeth flanked by a first tooth or first set of teeth at the front end and a second tooth or second set of teeth at the rear end. The front end refers to the end of the flexible portion closest to the front in the direction of travel during use. The rear end refers to the end of the flexible portion furthest from the front in the direction of travel during use. The term "flanked" refers to one or more central teeth having adjacent teeth on each side of the one or more central teeth.
[0036] In certain embodiments, the flexible section has three teeth, with the central tooth being longer than the other two teeth. In some embodiments, the flexible section has five teeth, with the central tooth being longer than the other four teeth. In some embodiments, the flexible section has five teeth, with the three central teeth being longer than the front teeth and longer than the rear teeth in the row of teeth.
[0037] In certain embodiments, the plurality of teeth is defined along a longitudinal axis extending in the normal direction of travel of the spray device in use, and the plurality of teeth includes at least one central tooth flanked by at least one peripheral tooth at the front and rear ends, the or each central tooth having a greater vertical length than each peripheral tooth at the front and rear ends. The front end refers to the end of the flexible portion closest to the front with respect to the direction of travel in use. The rear end refers to the end of the flexible portion furthest from the front with respect to the direction of travel in use. The term "flanked" refers to at least one central tooth having one or more teeth adjacent to each side of the at least one central tooth.
[0038] This provides the advantage that, in embodiments having a relatively long central tooth or teeth, marking fluid can be directed to the longer teeth if the marking fluid is directed primarily to the center of the flexible section.
[0039] This provides the advantage that if less marking fluid is applied to the outer teeth, which are more likely to dry out compared to the central tooth or teeth, the shorter outer teeth are less likely to come into contact with the applied marking fluid, which could cause unsightly nicks or imperfections.
[0040] In certain embodiments, the or each tooth is elastically deformable, flexible, or the like.
[0041] This has the advantage that the tines can bend and follow the contours of the surface being sprayed.
[0042] In certain embodiments, the tooth, some of the teeth, or each tooth slopes inward toward the surface being sprayed.
[0043] In certain embodiments, the tooth, some or each tooth is inclined inwardly toward the marking fluid path during use. In certain embodiments, the tooth, some or each tooth is inclined on a side of the flexible portion facing the spray. That is, in certain embodiments, an angle is formed between the tooth, some or each tooth and a vertical line, i.e., the vertical or longitudinal axis of the tooth. This angle can be considered an inclination angle. In certain embodiments, the surface of the tooth, some or each tooth is inclined inwardly. In certain embodiments, the surface of the tooth, some or each tooth is inclined inwardly toward the marking fluid path during use. In certain embodiments, the surface of the tooth, some or each tooth is inclined on a side of the tooth facing the spray.
[0044] This provides the advantage that the marking fluid can be directed more precisely, resulting in sharper edges in the sprayed line.
[0045] In certain embodiments, the tooth, some teeth, or each tooth is inclined from vertical between 0 and 20 degrees, i.e., forms an angle between 0 and 20 degrees with respect to the vertical or longitudinal axis, i.e., can form an angle or inclination between 0 and 20 degrees (excluding both 0 and 20 degrees).
[0046] In certain embodiments, a tooth, some teeth, or each tooth is inclined at an angle between 0 degrees and 20 degrees. In some examples, a tooth, some teeth, or each tooth is inclined at an angle between 0 degrees and 20 degrees (excluding 0 degrees and including 20 degrees). The inclination angle of a tooth, some teeth, or each tooth may have a lower limit of 0 degrees, 5 degrees, 10 degrees, or 15 degrees, or any integer value therebetween. The inclination angle of a tooth, some teeth, or each tooth may have an upper limit of 5 degrees, 10 degrees, 15 degrees, or 20 degrees, or any integer value therebetween. In some examples, a tooth, some teeth, or each tooth may be inclined at an angle of 0 degrees, 5 degrees, 10 degrees, 15 degrees, or 20 degrees, or any integer value therebetween.
[0047] In certain embodiments, one, some, or each tooth is inclined 5 degrees from vertical. In certain embodiments, one, some, or each tooth is inclined 5 degrees from vertical on the side of the flexible portion facing the spray. In certain embodiments, one, some, or each tooth is inclined 5 degrees from vertical on one side of the flexible portion.
[0048] This provides the advantage that the marking fluid can be directed more precisely, resulting in sharper edges in the sprayed line.
[0049] In some embodiments, one tooth, some teeth, or each tooth comprises a non-stick material.
[0050] In certain embodiments, the tooth, some of the teeth, or each tooth comprises a silicone. In certain embodiments, the tooth, some of the teeth, or each tooth comprises a silicone material.
[0051] In some embodiments, the flexible portion comprises a non-stick material.
[0052] In certain embodiments, the flexible portion comprises a silicone material. In certain embodiments, the flexible portion comprises a silicone material.
[0053] In certain embodiments, the silicone material comprises a cured silicone rubber.
[0054] In embodiments in which the tooth, some or each tooth, the flexible portion, or both the tooth, some or each tooth and the flexible portion comprise a non-stick material, such as silicone, this provides a continuous flow of marking fluid to the surface being sprayed because less marking fluid adheres to or on the tooth, some or each tooth, the flexible portion, or both the tooth, some or each tooth and the flexible portion, which has the advantage of providing a uniform application of the marking fluid and resulting in sharper edges of the lines drawn on the surface.
[0055] In embodiments in which the tooth, some or each tooth, the flexible portion, or both the tooth, some or each tooth and the flexible portion comprise a non-stick material, such as silicone, this provides the advantage that the marking fluid does not adhere strongly to the tooth, some or each tooth, the flexible portion, or both the tooth, some or each tooth and the flexible portion as it dries, allowing the dried marking fluid to be easily removed from the flexible portion or tooth by mechanical means, for example by scraping or bending, thereby reducing the use of cleaning chemicals.
[0056] In embodiments in which the tooth, some or all of the teeth, the flexible portion, or both the tooth, some or all of the teeth, and the flexible portion comprise a material with low surface energy, such as silicone, this provides the advantage that the marking fluid does not wet the surface of the tooth, some or all of the teeth, the flexible portion, or both the tooth, some or all of the teeth, and the flexible portion, and therefore does not flow off the tooth or the flexible portion and spread across the surface, which would otherwise accelerate the drying of the marking fluid. This has the advantage that the accumulation of dried marking fluid on the tooth, some or all of the teeth, the flexible portion, or both the tooth, some or all of the teeth, and the flexible portion is reduced, and the performance of these parts and features is more consistent over long periods between cleanings. This results in a sharper line edge on the surface over long periods of device operation.
[0057] In some embodiments, the tooth, some of the teeth, or each tooth comprises a flexible material. In some embodiments, the tooth, some of the teeth, or each tooth is flexible. In some embodiments, the flexible material has a Shore A hardness of 60.
[0058] In certain embodiments, the silicone material has a Shore A hardness of 60. That is, the tooth or each tooth may comprise a silicone material having a Shore A hardness of 60. Additionally or alternatively, the flexible material may comprise a silicone material having a Shore A hardness of 60.
[0059] This has the advantage that the tooth, some or each tooth, the flexible portion, or both the tooth, some or each tooth and the flexible portion have good rigidity, so that the silicone part attaches well to the spray guide.Furthermore, the silicone part is easier to clean as it can flex to remove dried marking fluid, thereby reducing the need for cleaning chemicals.
[0060] In certain embodiments, the spray guide further comprises at least one fin. In certain embodiments, the fin may be of the same material as the spray guide. Alternatively, in some embodiments, the fin may be of a different material than the spray guide. In some embodiments, the at least one fin extends from the spray guide in a vertical direction from one side of the spray guide. In some embodiments, the at least one fin extends from the marking fluid side of the spray guide.
[0061] This provides the advantage that marking fluid that would not normally be directed toward the surface being sprayed is directed toward the flexible material and, therefore, toward the surface being sprayed during use. Therefore, waste of marking fluid is reduced. Furthermore, the fins contribute to providing a continuous flow of marking fluid, so that the marking fluid does not dry out on the flexible portion. The continuous flow of fluid toward the surface being sprayed results in a uniform application of the marking fluid and sharper edges for the lines drawn on the surface.
[0062] In certain embodiments, at least one fin has a triangular shape. In alternative embodiments, the fin has other shapes, for example, rectangular, semicircular, or square.
[0063] This provides the advantage that the marking fluid can be precisely directed to a specific area, optimizing the flow of marking fluid towards the surface being sprayed.
[0064] In certain embodiments, at least one fin is located on the spray-facing side of the spray guide.
[0065] In certain embodiments, the spray guide comprises two fins. A spray guide with two fins advantageously helps to direct the marking fluid to the correct area.
[0066] In certain embodiments, at least one fin extends vertically from the spray guide, with the at least one fin extending vertically along the spray-facing side of the spray guide in the orientation of the spray guide in use. That is, in certain embodiments, the at least one fin extending from the spray guide is substantially coaxial with a vertical line, i.e., the longitudinal axis. That is, the at least one fin extends outward from the spray guide.
[0067] In certain embodiments, at least one fin extends vertically from the flexible portion, with the at least one fin extending vertically along the spray-facing side of the flexible portion in the orientation of the flexible portion in use, i.e., in certain embodiments, the at least one fin extending from the flexible portion is substantially coaxial with the vertical or longitudinal axis, i.e., the at least one fin extends outward from the at least one flexible portion.
[0068] In certain embodiments, at least one fin extends vertically at an angle from the horizontal.
[0069] This provides the advantage that a continuous or steady stream of marking fluid is applied to the flexible portion as the marking fluid is collected by the at least one fin and directed towards the flexible portion.
[0070] In certain embodiments, at least one fin extends vertically between 60 and 70 degrees from horizontal. That is, at least one fin extends substantially vertically and forms an angle between 60 and 70 degrees with respect to horizontal, i.e., a vertical line or a transverse axis perpendicular to the longitudinal axis. The angle formed may include 60 degrees. The angle formed may exclude 60 degrees. The angle formed may include 70 degrees. The angle formed may exclude 70 degrees. In some embodiments, at least one fin extends vertically between 60 and 70 degrees from horizontal.
[0071] In one particular embodiment, at least one fin extends vertically at 68 degrees from the horizontal.
[0072] This provides the advantage that marking fluid is directed towards the flexible section in a continuous or steady manner with an improved flow rate.
[0073] In certain embodiments, the flexible section is integrally formed within the spray guide.
[0074] Aspects of the present invention also provide a masking plate comprising a spray guide as described herein.
[0075] Aspects of the present invention further provide a spraying device comprising a masking plate as described herein or a spray guide as described herein.
[0076] Aspects of the present invention further provide a spray device that defines the shape of the marking fluid when sprayed onto a surface, the spray device comprising: a nozzle through which the marking fluid is sprayed; and at least one masking plate that defines the edge of the sprayed marking fluid sprayed from the nozzle, the at least one masking plate comprising a flexible portion.
[0077] This allows a portion of the masking plate, particularly the flexible portion, to be positioned closer to or even in contact with the surface being sprayed, which has the advantage of reducing the gap between the masking plate and the surface being sprayed, thus allowing for a line with sharper edges to be sprayed, and may make the device easier to clean, less susceptible to damage during use, etc.
[0078] In certain embodiments, the spray device comprises a spray guide as described herein, for example, a spray guide comprising a flexible portion.
[0079] In certain embodiments, the flexible portion is positioned on the masking plate, in use, at the portion of the masking plate closest to the surface to be sprayed.
[0080] This reduces the gap between the surface to be sprayed and the masking plate, which has the advantage of producing sharper edges in the sprayed line.
[0081] In certain embodiments, the flexible portion is at least part of a member that is releasably engaged to at least one masking plate.
[0082] This provides the advantage that the masking plate is easily replaceable for maintenance, cleaning or repair.
[0083] In some embodiments, the separable engagement mechanism that releasably engages the flexible portion to the masking plate comprises a peg. In some embodiments, the separable engagement mechanism that releasably engages the flexible portion to the masking plate comprises an aperture. In some embodiments, the separable engagement mechanism that releasably engages the flexible portion to the masking plate comprises a threaded aperture. In some embodiments, the separable engagement mechanism that releasably engages the flexible portion to the masking plate comprises a push-in mechanism, a friction-fit mechanism, or a snap-fit mechanism.
[0084] In certain embodiments, the spray device comprises two masking plates, each masking plate comprising a flexible portion.
[0085] In certain embodiments, the spray device comprises two masking plates, each masking plate comprising a spray guide as described herein, for example, a spray guide comprising a flexible portion.
[0086] This has the advantage that the sharpness of the edges of the sprayed line can be increased.
[0087] In certain embodiments, during manufacture of the spray device and / or the masking plate for the spray device, flexible portions can be manufactured depending on the orientation of the masking plate when mated to the spray device, so that the masking plate can fit on either side of the marking fluid spray path in use, allowing for ease of manufacture regardless of whether the spray mask is mated to the left or right of the marking fluid spray path, for example.
[0088] In certain embodiments, at least one masking plate includes at least one fin. In certain embodiments, the fin may be made of the same material as the masking plate. Alternatively, in some embodiments, the fin may be made of a different material than the masking plate. In some embodiments, the at least one fin extends from the masking plate in a vertical direction from one side of the masking plate. In some embodiments, the at least one fin extends from the marking fluid side of the masking plate in a vertical direction.
[0089] This provides the advantage that marking fluid that would not normally be directed toward the surface being sprayed is directed toward the flexible material and, therefore, toward the surface being sprayed during use.
[0090] In certain embodiments, at least one fin has a triangular shape. In alternative embodiments, the fin has other shapes, for example, rectangular.
[0091] This provides the advantage that the marking fluid can be precisely directed to a specific area, optimizing the flow of marking fluid towards the surface being sprayed.
[0092] In certain embodiments, at least one fin is located on the spray-facing side of the masking plate.
[0093] In certain embodiments, at least one masking plate includes two fins. A masking plate with two fins advantageously helps direct the marking fluid to the correct area.
[0094] In certain embodiments, at least one fin extends vertically from the masking plate, with the at least one fin extending vertically along the spray-facing side of the masking plate in the orientation of the masking plate in use, i.e., in certain embodiments, the at least one fin extending from the masking plate is substantially coaxial with the vertical or longitudinal axis, i.e., the at least one fin extends outward from the at least one masking plate.
[0095] In certain embodiments, at least one fin extends vertically at an angle from the horizontal.
[0096] This provides the advantage that a continuous or steady stream of marking fluid is applied to the flexible portion as the marking fluid is collected by the at least one fin and directed towards the flexible portion.
[0097] In certain embodiments, at least one fin extends vertically between 60 and 70 degrees from horizontal.
[0098] In one particular embodiment, at least one fin extends vertically at 68 degrees from the horizontal.
[0099] This provides the advantage that marking fluid is directed towards the flexible section in a continuous or steady manner with an improved flow rate.
[0100] In certain embodiments, the spray device has two fins per masking plate spaced apart above the flexible portion at an angle from the horizontal, with the distance between the two fins closer to the flexible portion being shorter than the distance between the two fins farther from the flexible portion.
[0101] In certain embodiments, the spray device comprises at least two fins, the at least two fins being configured such that the at least two fins and a portion of the masking plate partially form a funnel shape.
[0102] In some embodiments, the or each fin comprises a material having low surface energy and non-stick properties.
[0103] In certain embodiments, the or each fin comprises a silicone material.
[0104] In certain embodiments, the or each fin comprises an LDPE (low density polyethylene) material.
[0105] This allows a continuous flow of marking fluid to be provided to the flexible portion as the marking fluid does not wet the surface of a single fin or each fin, which has the advantage that the marking fluid is applied evenly and the edges of the lines drawn on the surface are sharper.
[0106] In addition, this has the advantage that the marking fluid does not adhere strongly to the fin or fins even when it dries, allowing the dried marking fluid to be easily removed from the fin or fins by mechanical means, such as scraping or bending the surface, thereby reducing the use of cleaning chemicals.
[0107] In some embodiments, the or each fin comprises a flexible material.
[0108] In certain embodiments, the or each fin comprises a silicone material having a Shore A hardness of 60.
[0109] This has the advantage that the fin or fins have good rigidity, which allows the silicone part to attach well to the masking plate.Furthermore, the silicone fin or fin parts are easier to clean as they can flex to remove dried marking fluid, thereby reducing the need for cleaning chemicals.

[0111] In certain embodiments, at least one masking plate comprises a pointer. In certain embodiments, the masking plate comprises a pointer. In some embodiments, the pointer can comprise a visual indicia such as a marking, an arrow, etc. In some embodiments, the pointer extends from a front end of the masking plate relative to the direction of travel in use.
[0112] This provides the advantage that the user can visually identify the intended edge of the line to be sprayed.
[0113] According to another aspect of the present invention, a pointer is provided that includes an elongated flexible portion having a tapered end.
[0114] The pointer may be a detachable pointer. In some embodiments, the pointer comprises a detachable pointer. In some embodiments, the pointer is detachably attached to the masking plate. In some embodiments, the pointer is detachably attached to the device.
[0115] Alternatively, the pointer may be fixed to the masking plate or any part of the device itself.
[0116] In some embodiments, the device comprises two masking plates each provided with a pointer, which advantageously indicate the side edge where the fluid spray is to be applied.
[0117] In certain embodiments, the pointer is releasably attached to the at least one masking plate. In particular examples, the pointer can be releasably attached to a front end of the at least one masking plate relative to the direction of travel in use.
[0118] In certain embodiments, the pointer is releasably attached to the device, e.g., the body of the device. In particular examples, the pointer can be releasably attached to the front end of the device, e.g., the body of the device, relative to the direction of travel in use.
[0119] This provides the advantage that the pointer can be easily removed or replaced.
[0120] In certain embodiments, the pointer is configured to be able to engage the surface being sprayed during use. In some embodiments, for example, the pointer comprises a flexible material. In some embodiments, the pointer has a sled shape. In some embodiments, the pointer has a curved end. When the pointer has a curved or sled-shaped edge, it can overcome unevenness without getting caught.
[0121] Having a sled design where the front of the pointer is cambered and has a flexible material or design allows the pointer to be positioned as close to the ground as possible, allowing the pointer to flex and overcome surface irregularities.
[0122] The pointer can be attached to a masking plate or flexible portion on one side of the device to indicate one side of the marked line, for example. The user's preference for which side to use can depend, for example, on whether the user has a preference for being right-handed or left-handed. For example, a right-handed user may prefer to place the pointer on the left side so that the edge of the line is in view along with the tip of the pointer.
[0123] Advantageously, the pointer features described herein help to reduce parallax effects and provide a more accurate correlation between the edges of marked lines and the pointer position.
[0124] In certain embodiments, the pointer is releasably attached to the at least one masking plate. In particular examples, the pointer can be releasably attached to a front end of the at least one masking plate relative to the direction of travel in use.
[0125] In certain embodiments, the pointer is releasably attached to the device, e.g., the body of the device. In particular examples, the pointer can be releasably attached to the front end of the device, e.g., the body of the device, relative to the direction of travel in use.
[0126] This provides the advantage that the pointer can be easily removed or replaced.
[0127] In certain embodiments, the pointer comprises a flexible strap extending from at least one masking plate towards the surface to be sprayed.
[0128] In certain embodiments, the pointer comprises a flexible strap that extends from the device, for example, the body of the device, towards the surface to be sprayed.
[0129] In certain embodiments, the pointer comprises a wheel towards the distal end of the flexible strap, the wheel being capable of contacting the surface to be sprayed in use.
[0130] In certain embodiments, the atomizing device includes a gas flow system positioned to direct the atomized marking fluid.
[0131] This has the advantage that any marking fluid that accumulates on the flexible portion is blown towards the surface being sprayed, resulting in sharper edges of the line drawn on the surface.
[0132] In certain embodiments, the flexible portion is integrally formed within at least one masking plate.
[0133] In certain embodiments, the spray device further comprises a stabilizing arm, the stabilizing arm comprising a stabilizing wheel.
[0134] This provides the advantage that the spray device is stabilized against undulations in or on the surface being sprayed when in use.
[0135] In certain embodiments, the stabilizing arm is located at the rear of the spray device relative to the direction of travel of the spray device in use.
[0136] This provides the advantage of stabilising the rear end of the spray device which is typically lighter than the front end and therefore more prone to accidental movement during use. Advantageously, having the stabilising arms at the rear of the device helps to ensure an unobstructed forward view.
[0137] In certain embodiments, the stabilizing wheel is located on the outward-facing side of the stabilizing arm.
[0138] This provides the advantage that the stabilizing wheel is spaced from the marking fluid being applied to the surface, thereby preventing smearing of the marking fluid being applied to the surface.
[0139] In some embodiments, the width of the wheelbase between the front wheel pair or the rear wheel pair can be, for example, in the range of 5 centimeters to 100 centimeters. In some embodiments, the rear wheel or stabilizing wheel has a wheelbase between 7 centimeters and 50 centimeters. In some embodiments, the stabilizing wheel has a wheelbase that is 10 centimeters larger than the width of the line created by the marking fluid.
[0140] In some embodiments, the device has a width setting that corresponds to the desired width of the marking line to be created. A 5 centimeter line width setting can be used with a 15 centimeter wheelbase. A 10 centimeter line width setting can be used with a 25 centimeter wheelbase.
[0141] In certain embodiments, the stabilizing arm is pivotally mounted and positioned to swing in a horizontal plane.
[0142] This provides the advantage that the spray device can be steered by pivoting movements of the stabilizing arms.
[0143] In certain embodiments, the spray device further comprises a locking mechanism arranged to lock the stabilizing arm into a position in a horizontal plane.
[0144] This provides the advantage that the spray device can be used to spray circular markings easily and accurately.
[0145] In certain embodiments, the stabilizing arm or wheel comprises a suspension mechanism. In some embodiments, the suspension mechanism of the stabilizing arm or wheel comprises a spring or elastic material. In some embodiments, the suspension mechanism of the stabilizing wheel comprises curved flexible spokes. In some embodiments, the suspension mechanism of the stabilizing wheel comprises curved spokes, and the curved spokes comprise elastic material.
[0146] In certain embodiments, the stabilizing wheel comprises curved flexible spokes.
[0147] This provides the advantage that the stabilising wheels provide suspension and vibration isolation, so the spray device has improved stability in use, particularly on uneven surfaces, i.e. undulations in or on the surface.
[0148] In certain embodiments, the stabilizing arm is biased to extend directly opposite the direction of travel of the spray device.
[0149] This provides the advantage of improved stability when spraying in a straight line as the stabilising arm resists articulation.
[0150] In another aspect of the present invention, there is provided a spray device that defines the shape of a marking fluid when sprayed onto a surface, the spray device comprising: a nozzle through which the marking fluid is sprayed; and at least one masking plate that defines an edge of the sprayed marking fluid sprayed from the nozzle, the at least one masking plate comprising at least one fin.

Each wheel has a series of linear spokes 124 extending linearly or substantially linearly from a central hub 125 to a peripheral wheel rim 128. A tire 129 is mounted on the peripheral wheel rim 128 and is positioned to contact a surface, such as the ground, during use. The distance between the wheels 116a, 116b is considered the front wheel base, which in this embodiment may be approximately 10 centimeters.
[0246] The device 100 further includes a pair of stabilizing wheels 130a, 130b disposed at a second end of the device. Each stabilizing wheel 130a, 130b is mounted on one of a pair of stabilizing arms 132a, 132b that extend longitudinally from the body 102 toward the distal end. Each stabilizing arm 132a, 132b includes a laterally extending axle 134 to which each stabilizing wheel 130a, 130b is rotatably mounted. The stabilizing wheels 130a, 130b are mounted externally of the stabilizing arms 132a, 132b such that the stabilizing wheels 130a, 130b are positioned distal to the area of the surface to which the marking fluid is applied.
[0247] The stabilizing arms 132a, 132b are pivotally connected to the main body 102. Each pivotable connection is operable by a locking mechanism. The locking mechanism can be used to selectively lock each stabilizing arm 132a, 132b into a desired position, which, in use, allows a user to create circular patterns, etc. Additionally, in some examples, the stabilizing arms 132a, 132b can be spring-loaded to bias the device 100 toward a first configuration in which it is driven linearly. In some examples, the stabilizing arms 132a, 132b can operate singly, i.e., independently of one another, while in other examples, the stabilizing arms 132a, 132b can be operably coupled to move in unison, i.e., one movement is subordinate to or moves the other.
[0248] The stabilizer wheels 130a, 130b are provided with a plurality of curved, flexible spokes 136 extending from a central hub 138 to a peripheral wheel rim 140. The curved, flexible spokes 136 are arranged to act as shock absorbers, allowing the spokes to flex when the device contacts an uneven surface. As best shown in FIG. 1, a tire 142 is mounted on the peripheral wheel rim 138 and is positioned to contact a surface, e.g., the ground, during use. The distance between the stabilizer wheels 130a, 130b is considered the rear wheel base, which may be shorter than the front wheel base. In some examples, the rear wheel base may be approximately 10 centimeters.
[0249] 8 and 9, an optional airflow system 300 may be provided and may include each inboard blanking plate 120, each blanking plate 120 defining a housing for an impeller or fan 126 powered by an electric motor (not shown). The blanking plate 120 may include a stationary plate 127 having openings 129 to direct air toward the impeller or fan 126. In instances where an impeller or fan 126 and an electric motor (not shown) are present, air is drawn through the openings 129 and expelled radially downward through ducts 131 toward the atomization region. The atomization region may generally be enclosed between the masking plate 200 and vertically below the nozzle 107 of the aerosol canister 106. The expelled air directs the atomized liquid in the atomization region toward a defined area of the surface, or toward the masking plate 200. The electric motor (not shown) may be powered by any suitable power source, such as a type AA 1.2v rechargeable battery, etc. A switch (not shown) formed as part of the body 102 may be used to operate the electric motor (not shown).
[0250] 8 illustrates a spray area having a width W defined as the distance between opposing masking plates 200. The width W may range, for example, from 5 mm to 200 mm, depending on the desired spray line. It may be preferable that the width W be adjustable between several configurations during use. For example, the width W may be adjustable between a first configuration, in this embodiment where W equals 50 mm, and a second configuration, in this embodiment where W equals 100 mm.
[0251] Additionally, as best shown in FIG. 1, the device 100 may include a pointer 350. The pointer 350 may be formed as part of the masking plate 200, as shown in FIG. 14, or may be formed as part of the body 102 of the device. The pointer 350 provides a visual indication of the protruding edge of the sprayed line. Thus, in use, a user can easily recognize where the edge of the sprayed line will be formed.
[0252] Additionally or alternatively, the device 100 may include a detachable pointer 400, as best shown in FIGS. 2-5 and 10. The detachable pointer 400 includes a first end 402 that constitutes a mounting end and a second end 404 that constitutes a pointed end. The first end 402 has a slot 406 for detachably attaching the first end 402 to the device 100. The second end 404 has a curved profile 408 that terminates in a protrusion 410. A flexible section 412, such as a flexible strap 412, is formed between the first end 402 and the second end 404. In another example, the detachable pointer 400 may include a wheel (not shown) that contacts the ground during use. In some embodiments, the detachable pointer 400 may be used as a scraping tool to clean the device, e.g., to scrape off marking fluid, if necessary. In some embodiments, the detachable pointer may have a sharp edge, for example, at the rear end of the flexible section 412. The sharp edge, in some embodiments, can be configured to fit between the fins, for example, on a masking plate. In embodiments where the sharp edge is configured to fit between the fins, the sharp edge can be used to clean, for example, remove, the marking fluid between the fins. The detachable pointer may be used to clean other areas of the device. The sharp edge of the detachable pointer may be used to clean other areas of the device.
[0253] In an alternative embodiment, the pointer 400 may be an integral part of the masking plate or device, for example.
[0254] 11 to 13, the device 100 may further include a protective plate 500. The protective plate 500 includes a first end 502 having a pair of arms 504 and a second end 505 having a substantially flat protective portion 506. The flat protective portion extends perpendicular to a wall 508. The wall 508 and the pair of arms 504 at the first end 502 are generally flush with each other. The pair of arms 504 are arranged to be stored in a storage portion 510 of the device 100. Thus, the protective plate 500 may be detachably coupled to the device 100. In particular, the storage portion 510 may be adjacent to the main body 102, the holder 104, or both the main body 102 and the holder 104. Thus, the protective plate 500 may serve to protect a portion of the device 100, such as the main body 102, the holder 104, or both the main body 102 and the holder 104, from overspray during use. That is, the protective plate 500 protects the device 100 from the sprayed fluid.
[0255] 1-5, 8, and 9, in use, if the airflow system 300 is present, the fan 126 can be activated by operating a switch, and the aerosol canister 106 can be activated by pulling the trigger on the operating arm 108, causing the device 100 to spray a line L as it travels along a surface, as shown in FIG. 5. The airflow emerges from the duct 131 longitudinally and transversely downward along the edge of the masking plate 200, suppressing side overspray and blowing droplets of marking fluid that accumulate along the lower edge of the masking plate 200 back into the sprayed line, thereby creating a distinct spray line. Additionally, the masking plate 200 also serves to direct the marking fluid toward the surface, allowing the droplets to fall onto the surface onto which the marking fluid was sprayed. Thus, the masking plate 200, or the combination of the masking plate 200 and the airflow system 300, serves to create a spray line with a distinct outer edge. The masking plate 200 is described in more detail below.
[0256] In use, the stabilizing arms 132a, 132b carrying the stabilizing wheels 130a, 130b can be adjusted to a desired configuration. As shown in FIG. 3, in a first configuration, the stabilizing arms 132a, 132b are substantially parallel. Furthermore, the stabilizing arms 132a, 132b form no angle with respect to their respective transverse axes, indicated by T in FIG. 3. The transverse axes extend from the attachment points of the stabilizing arms 132a, 132b in a direction directly opposite the direction of travel. In this first configuration, a straight line is sprayed. This first configuration may be useful when a small rear wheelbase is desired, for example, when space is limited, such as adjacent to a wall or other structure.
[0257] As shown in Figure 4, in the second configuration, the stabilizing arms 132a, 132b are not parallel, but each stabilizing arm 132a, 132b forms an equal diagonal with respect to its respective transverse axis, indicated by T in Figure 4. In this second configuration, straight lines are also sprayed. On the other hand, this second configuration may be useful, for example, when a large rear wheelbase is desired to ensure additional stability.
[0258] 5, in a third configuration, stabilizing arms 132a, 132b are substantially parallel and each form an angle with respect to a respective transverse axis T. In this third configuration, a curved line is sprayed. The curvature of the sprayed line can be changed by changing the angle of each of stabilizing arms 132a, 132b with respect to transverse axis T.
[0259] Masking Plate As shown in FIGS. 14-24, the device 100 includes a pair of opposing masking plates 200. The masking plates 200 can be used in conjunction with the device 100 described herein, as shown in FIGS. 1 and 20-22. In particular, in use, the masking plates 200 are disposed on the inner surface of the body 102 on each lateral side of the spray of marking fluid F sprayed from the nozzle 107 of the aerosol canister 106. The masking plates 200 thus define the area over which the fluid is sprayed, and therefore the width and geometry of the spray pattern. In some examples, the masking plates 200 can be positioned such that the spray area has a width of 50 mm. The spray area, and therefore the width of the spray pattern, is generally defined by the distance between the two masking plates. The masking plate 200 may be adjustable between various settings; for example, the masking plate 200 may be adjustable between a first setting comprising a distance of, for example, 50 mm, and a second setting comprising a distance of, for example, 100 mm. The masking plate 200 may be adjusted to any suitable setting in any suitable manner. In some examples, the masking plate 200 includes a spray guide having a flexible portion 218, as described below. The spray guide may be integral with the masking plate 200, as described in this example, or may be formed as a separate component that can be attached to the masking plate 200.
[0260] 14-19, one embodiment of the masking plate 200 comprises a lower edge 202, an upper edge 204, and first and second side edges 206, 208 connecting the lower and upper edges 202, 204. The first side edge 206 is formed at a front end of the masking plate 200 relative to the direction of travel D, and the second side edge 208 is formed at a rear end of the masking plate relative to the direction of travel D. The masking plate 200 comprises a first surface 210 and a second surface 212, each surface 210, 212 being bounded and defined by the lower edge 202, the upper edge 204, and the two side edges 206, 208, with each surface 210, 212 facing outward. The first surface 210 faces toward the interior surface of the body 102, and the second surface 212 is positioned to receive and direct a marking fluid.
[0261] The first side edge 206 is provided with a front wall 214 extending inward from the second surface 212 toward the spray area. The front wall 214 may be a curved front wall 214. The curved front wall 214 curves from the upper edge 204 of the masking plate 200 to the lower edge 202 of the masking plate 200. As such, the front wall 214 is positioned to direct the marking fluid toward the lower edge 202 of the masking plate 200. The second side edge 208 is provided with a rear wall 216 extending inward from the second surface 212 toward the spray area. The rear wall 216 may be substantially vertical. The rear wall 216 may be provided as a curved rear profile of the masking plate 200 that curves inward and rearward to form the rear wall 216. As such, the rear wall 216 is positioned to prevent the marking fluid from leaking outside the spray area. In other examples, the masking plate 200 may not include the front wall 214 and the rear wall 216, and may instead be defined as a generally rectangular block.
[0262] The lower edge 202, or a portion of the lower edge 202, is generally disposed proximate to or positioned to engage the surface being sprayed. The lower edge 202 generally serves to allow marking fluid to drip from the lower edge 202 onto the surface being sprayed. Thus, the clearance between the lower edge 202 of the masking plate 200 and the surface can be important to line sharpness. For example, when the masking plate 200 is close or very close to the surface, the edges of the sprayed line tend to be sharper with a smaller clearance than with a larger clearance, because the droplets terminate on the surface more quickly. Thus, while it may be desirable for the device 100 to have a larger clearance from the ground so that the device 100 can be operated accurately and easily, it may also be desirable for the masking plate 200 to have a smaller clearance from the ground.
[0263] The masking plate 200 includes a flexible portion 218 extending from the lower edge 202 toward the surface to be sprayed. The flexible portion 218 is positioned proximate to or in engagement with the surface to be sprayed. The flexible portion 218 is attachable to the masking plate 200 by openings 220 extending through the flexible portion 218. The openings 220 provide a friction fit, a push fit, or a snap fit with a plurality of corresponding mounting pegs 222 formed as part of the first surface 210 of the masking plate 200. Thus, the flexible portion 218 can be easily attached to or detached from the masking plate 200. Furthermore, the flexible portion 218 can be retrofitted to an existing masking plate or spray guide.
[0264] The flexible portion 218 further includes a plurality of teeth 224 extending from a lower edge of the flexible portion 218 toward the surface to be sprayed. In the illustrated example, three teeth are shown. The teeth 224, or portions of the teeth 224, are positioned proximate to or engage the surface to be sprayed. The teeth 224 of the masking plates 200 generally angle inward relative to the vertical or longitudinal axis toward the spray area. That is, the teeth 224 of one masking plate 200 extend inward toward the opposing masking plate 200, as shown in FIG. 1 . In some embodiments, this angle is 5 degrees relative to the vertical. In other examples, the flexible portion 218 may generally angle inward relative to the vertical or longitudinal axis toward the spray area. In such examples, the teeth 224 may be coplanar and therefore have the same angle of inclination, or they may be angled relative to the flexible portion 218.
[0265] In the illustrated embodiment, the teeth 224 are arranged in a regular configuration, i.e., each single tooth of the teeth 224 is substantially identical in size, placement, etc. In this embodiment, the teeth 224 are arranged with a distance of 7 mm between each tooth. In use, in this embodiment, the teeth 224 can be arranged so that they are positioned approximately 0.5 mm from a flat surface.
[0266] In other examples, the teeth 224 may be irregular, with each tooth or portion of teeth varying in size, placement, etc. In some examples, there may be three teeth 224 centrally disposed along the lower edge of the flexible portion 218, with the central tooth being longer than the teeth located to either side of the central tooth.
[0267] The flexible portion 218 generally comprises a flexible material, such as silicone, such that the flexible portion 218 can contact the surface being sprayed (i.e., the ground) without being damaged. Furthermore, the flexible portion 218 can be elastically deformable, such that the flexible portion 218 can contact the surface being sprayed during use and then return to its original shape. Furthermore, the flexible material allows the marking fluid to continuously drip from the lower edge of the flexible portion, i.e., the flexible portion prevents the marking fluid from drying on the lower edge. Therefore, the edge definition of the sprayed line can be improved.
[0268] Furthermore, the teeth 224 may generally comprise a flexible material, such as silicone, such that the teeth 224 can contact the surface being sprayed (i.e., the ground) in the same manner as the flexible portion 218. In this manner, the gap between the flexible portion 218 of the masking plate 200 and the surface can be minimized, resulting in a clear edge of the sprayed line. Furthermore, the teeth 224 may be positioned to contact the surface being sprayed during use, thereby defining an outer edge or boundary where the marking fluid will not intersect. The flexible portion 218 and the teeth 224 may comprise the same or different materials and may be an integral or separate part.
[0269] Each masking plate 200 also includes one or more fins 226 arranged to guide marking fluid sprayed from the nozzles 107 toward the lower edge 202 of the masking plate 200, and in particular toward the flexible portions 218, i.e., the teeth 224. The fins 226 serve to provide a continuous flow of marking fluid toward the flexible portions 218, i.e., the teeth 224, thereby substantially reducing or even eliminating the risk of the marking fluid drying on the flexible portions 218. In this way, the fins 226 cooperate with the flexible portions 218 and the teeth 224 to provide a clear spray line.
[0270] Each fin 226 generally extends upward from the apex of or proximal to the lower edge 202 of the masking plate 200 adjacent the flexible portion 218 to the base of or proximal to the upper edge 204 of the masking plate. Thus, each of the fins 226 may be generally defined as a triangular structure. The fins 226 may be formed as right-angled triangles.
[0271] In the illustrated example, a pair of fins 226 are provided. The pair of fins 206 can be oriented off-axis relative to a vertical line, i.e., the vertical or longitudinal axis, thereby forming an inclined angle. In some embodiments, the inclination angle of the fins can be between 10 degrees and 30 degrees. In some specific embodiments, the inclination angle of the fins is 20 degrees. In other words, each fin can form an angle between 0 degrees and 90 degrees (excluding 0 degrees and 90 degrees) with respect to the bottom edge of the masking plate 200.
[0272] The fins 226 may be angled in opposite directions. The first and second fins may be angled to substantially form a partial funnel shape, e.g., an isosceles trapezoid, with a shorter edge defined by an imaginary line between the apexes of each fin 226 proximate or at the lower edge 202 of the masking plate 200 and a longer edge defined by an imaginary line between the bases of each fin 226 proximate or at the upper edge 204 of the masking plate 200.
[0273] Additionally, the masking plate 200 includes a pointer 400 that includes a point 350. In some examples, the pointer 400 can be attached to the masking plate 200 as described above. In the example shown, the pointer 400 can be detachably attached to the masking plate 200.
[0274] Figures 20-24 show another example of a masking plate 200. The masking plate 200 of Figures 20-24 is substantially similar to that described with respect to Figures 14-19, and therefore like components are designated with like reference numerals. Differences between the masking plate 200 of Figures 14-19 and the masking plate 200 of Figures 20-24 are discussed below.
[0275] The masking plate 200 in this example does not include fins. Additionally, the masking plate includes seven teeth 224 instead of three. The remaining features of the masking plate 200 of Figures 20-24 are the same as those described for the masking plate 200 of Figures 14-19.
[0276] Furthermore, in some examples, seven teeth 224 may be provided centrally disposed along the lower edge of the flexible portion 218, as shown in FIG. 24 . The teeth 224 may include a central tooth 224a having a first length, two primary teeth 224b located on either side of the central tooth 224a and each having a second length, two secondary teeth 224c located on either side of the primary tooth 224b and each having a third length, and two tertiary teeth 224d located on either side of the secondary tooth 224c and each having a fourth length. The first length may be longer than the second length, the third length, and the fourth length. Furthermore, the first length may be longer than the second length, the second length may be longer than the third length, and the third length may be longer than the fourth length. In other examples, as shown in FIG. 24 , the first length, the second length, the third length, and the fourth length are substantially or exactly equal.
[0277] 14-24, in use, marking fluid is introduced proximate the upper edge 204 of the masking plate 200. The marking fluid is continuously directed by the fins 206, if present, and the curved front and rear walls 214, 216 toward the lower edge 202 of the masking plate 200, and particularly toward the flexible portion 218 and teeth 224 located in the center of the lower end of the masking plate 200. The marking fluid continuously flows from the upper end of each tooth 224 toward the lower end of each tooth 224, dripping from the lower end of each tooth 224 onto the surface to be sprayed, or scraping off onto the surface to be sprayed as each tooth 224 contacts the ground.
