Abstract

The system includes a patient support device and a plurality of position transceivers, one or more of which are mounted on the patient support device and the one or more position transceivers are located at fixed positions within a room. The on-board position transceiver determines its own position relative to the off-board position transceiver or vice versa and uses this position information to determine the position of the tagged medical device relative to the spatial volume. If the tagged medical device is inside the spatial volume, the controller may (a) associate the tagged medical device with the patient support device, the patient, a room identifier, and / or a room bay identifier, (b) admit the tagged medical device into the communications network, and / or (c) transfer data from the tagged medical device to a remotely located server.
