Abstract

This invention is designed to detect and selectively jam Frequency Hopping (FH) communication radio networks operating within the frequency range of 30 MHz to 6 GHz, with an Instantaneous Bandwidth (IBW) of 300MHz. The integrated system identifies active FH signals within the specified band and generates a corresponding jamming signal in real time to disrupt communication. This invention comprises a Peripheral Component Interconnect Extensions for Instrumentation (PXI)-based system chassis, main control module, a Radio Frequency (RF) switch module, an RF receiver module, a Field Programmable Gate Array (FPGA) module, two RF signal generator modules, RF signal combiner module, a power amplifier, a transmit antenna, a receive antenna and a display screen. When these modules are installed in PXI--based system chassis, interconnected as illustrated in Fig No. 1 and integrated with the Graphical User Interface (GUI), they form a complete system for the selective follow-on jamming of wideband FH communication radios. GUI allows the operator to enter target frequency list(s) or define the target frequency band(s) of the FH communication radios to be jammed. After this configuration step, the system automatically determines at runtime whether the detected FH transmitters fall within the specified frequencies or bands and decides accordingly whether they should be jammed. This invention can conduct followon jamming on as many as eight networks of FH communication radios at the same time, with each network operating at hop rates of up to 500 hops per second.
