Abstract

A sports bag medical information device includes a storage container, a sealing arrangement, a connecting structure, and an information recording structure. The storage container is designed to store medical information. The sealing arrangement is designed and positioned to provide a waterproof seal between the first container portion and the second container portion when the first container portion and the second container portion are in the closed position to protect medical information stored in the storage container from damage from moisture. The connecting structure is designed to connect the storage container to a sports bag, such as a golf bag. The information recording structure is positioned in the storage container and designed to display medical information of a user for viewing by a third party in a medical emergency in which the user cannot communicate his condition or medical history.

[0020] With reference now to the drawings, and in particular to FIGS. 1 through 8 thereof, a new sports bag medical information device embodying the principles and concepts of an embodiment of the disclosure and generally designated by the reference numeral 10 will be described.

[0021] As best illustrated in FIGS. 1 through 8, the sports bag medical information device 10 generally comprises a storage container 12, a sealing arrangement 14, a connecting structure 16, and an information recording structure 18. The storage container 12 is designed to store medical information. The storage container 12 includes a first container portion 20 and a second container portion 22. The storage container 12 also includes a hinge 24 connected to the first container portion 20 and the second container portion 22. The hinge 24 is designed to permit pivoting of the first container portion 20 and the second container portion 22 apart to an open position to permit access inside the storage container 12, as shown in FIGS. 5 and 6. The hinge 24 also permits pivoting of the first container portion 20 and the second container portion 22 together to a closed position to prevent access inside the storage container 12, as shown in FIGS. 1, 2, and 4. It should be noted that some components of the sports bag medical information device 10 are described herein as being positioned on or as part of the first container portion 20 or the second container portion 22 for convenience of explanation, but could be positioned on either of the first container portion 20 or the second container portion 22.

[0022] The first container portion 20 includes a releasable locking tab 26. The second container portion 22 includes a locking slot 28 designed to receive the releasable locking tab 26 to releasably lock the first container portion 20 and the second container portion 22 together in the closed position. The releasable locking tab 26 is shown in a representative manner in the figures and could be designed in a manner common to locking tab designs, such as having snap-fit side tabs or projections that could be pressed inwardly to permit insertion and removal of the releasable locking tab 26 into and out of the locking slot 28.

The first container portion 20 includes a first planar body 30 and first side walls 32 positioned transverse to and extending from the first planar body 30. The second container portion 22 includes a second planar body 34 and second side walls 36 positioned transverse to and extending from the second planar body 34. The first planar body 30 has the same shape as the second planar body 34 such that the first side walls 32 match and engage the second side walls 36 when the first container portion 20 and the second container portion 22 are in the closed position. As shown in FIGS. 1 and 4, one or both of the first planar body 30 and the second planar body 34 has a medical symbol printed thereon, such as a caduceus 38 or cross or similar medical symbol, to indicate that medical information is located inside the storage container 12. This medical symbol will help third parties know that medical information or medical materials are located inside the storage container 12. The medical symbol is colored in a first color suitable to indicate medical information and the storage container is colored in a different second color, also suitable to indicate medical information, which is of high contrast to said first color. For example, the storage container could be colored white and the medical symbol could be common medical symbol colors, such as red or blue, or possibly the storage container could be colored a bright red or blue to draw attention to the storage container with the medical symbol in white.

[0024] The connecting structure 16 is designed to connect the storage container 12 to a sports bag, such as a golf bag 78 as shown in FIG. 8. The connecting structure 16 includes a tether 40 designed to support the storage container 12 in a suspended manner from the sports bag. In order to connect to the storage container 12, the first container portion 20 includes a first orifice 42 and the second container portion 22 includes a second orifice 44 designed and positioned to be aligned when the first container portion 20 and the second container portion 22 are in the closed position to form a passage through the storage container 12. The tether 40 includes a first end portion 46 designed to loop through the passage and a second end portion 48 designed to loop through a portion of the sports bag. As shown in FIG. 1, the first end portion 46 includes a first opening 50 and a first retaining tab 52 designed to be inserted into the first opening 50 to releasably lock the first end portion 46 in a first closed loop. The second end portion 48 includes a second opening 54 and a second retaining tab 56 designed to be inserted into the second opening 54 to releasably lock the second end portion 48 in a second closed loop.

[0025] The information recording structure 18 is positioned in the storage container 12 and designed to display medical information of a user. In the embodiment shown in FIGS. 5 and 6, the information recording structure 18 is a writing pad attached to the second container portion 22. A user can write current and updated medical information on the writing pad so that a third party viewing the medical information has the most up-to-date information.

[0026] In order to protect the writing pad and the medical information written thereon from damage due to moisture, a sealing arrangement 14 is designed and positioned to provide a waterproof seal between the first container portion 20 and the second container portion 22 when the first container portion 20 and the second container portion 22 are in the closed position. The sealing arrangement 14 is connected to one of the first container portion 20 and the second container portion 22. In the embodiment shown in FIG. 5, the sealing arrangement 14 includes a first rubber gasket 58 connected to the first container portion 20 and a second rubber gasket 60 connected to the second container portion 22. The first side walls 32 of the first container portion 20 together form a first channel 62 designed to receive and contain the first rubber gasket 58. The second side walls 36 of the second container portion 22 together form a second channel 64 designed to receive and contain the second rubber gasket 60. FIG. 7 shows a close-up cross-sectional view of a possible design of the second channel 64 and the second rubber gasket 60, which design is also applicable to the first channel 62 and the first rubber gasket 58.

A sports bag medical information device comprising:a storage container being configured to store medical information;said storage container comprising a first container portion and a second container portion;said storage container comprising a hinge connected to said first container portion and said second container portion;said hinge being configured to permit pivoting of said first container portion and said second container portion apart to an open position to permit access inside said storage container and together to a closed position to prevent access inside said storage container;a sealing arrangement being configured and disposed to provide a waterproof seal between said first container portion and said second container portion upon said first container portion and said second container portion being in said closed position to protect medical information stored in said storage container from damage from moisture;a connecting structure being configured to connect said storage container to a sports bag; andan information recording structure being disposed in said storage container and configured to display medical information of a user;wherein said first container portion comprises a first planar body and first side walls disposed transverse to and extending from said first planar body;wherein said second container portion comprises a second planar body and second side walls disposed transverse to and extending from said second planar body;wherein said first planar body has the same shape as said second planar body such that said first side walls match and engage said second side walls upon said first container portion and said second container portion being in said closed position, wherein each of said first planar body and said second planar body have an octagonal shape.

The sports bag medical information device of claim 1, wherein:said first container portion comprises a first orifice and said second container portion comprises a second orifice configured and disposed to be aligned upon said first container portion and said second container portion being in said closed position to form a passage through said storage container;said connecting structure comprises a tether configured to support said storage container in a suspended manner from the sports bag; andsaid tether comprises a first end portion configured to loop through said passage and a second end portion configured to loop through a portion of the sports bag.

The sports bag medical information device of claim 2, wherein:said first end portion comprises a first opening and a first retaining tab configured to be inserted into said first opening to releasably lock said first end portion in a first closed loop; andsaid second end portion comprises a second opening and a second retaining tab configured to be inserted into said second opening to releasably lock said second end portion in a second closed loop.

4. The sports bag medical information device of claim 1, wherein said sealing arrangement is connected to one of said first container portion and said second container portion.

The sports bag medical information device of claim 1, wherein:said first container portion comprises a releasable locking tab; andsaid second container portion comprises a locking slot configured to receive said releasable locking tab to releasably lock said first container portion and said second container portion together in said closed position.

The sports bag medical information device of claim 1, wherein:said sealing arrangement comprises a first rubber gasket connected to said first container portion and a second rubber gasket connected to said second container portion;said first side walls together comprise a first channel configured to receive and contain said first rubber gasket; andsaid second side walls together comprise a second channel configured to receive and contain said second rubber gasket.

10. The sports bag medical information device of claim 1, wherein at least one of said first planar body and said second planar body having a medical symbol printed thereon to further indicate that medical information is located inside said storage container.

11. The sports bag medical information device of claim 10, wherein said medical symbol is colored in a first color suitable to indicate medical information and said storage container is colored in a different second color suitable to indicate medical information and of high contrast to said first color.

12. The sports bag medical information device of claim 1, wherein said connecting structure is configured to connect said storage container to a golf bag.

13. The sports bag medical information device of claim 1, wherein said information recording structure comprises a writing pad attached to said second container portion and configured to permit a user to write current and updated medical information thereon.

14. The sports bag medical information device of claim 13, further comprising:a writing implement disposed in said storage container; anda receptacle structure disposed in said second container portion and configured to hold said writing implement.

A sports bag medical information device comprising:a storage container configured to store medical information; wherein said storage container comprises a first container portion and a second container portion; said storage container comprises a hinge connected to said first container portion and said second container portion; said hinge is configured to permit pivoting of said first container portion and said second container portion apart to an open position to permit access inside said storage container and together to a closed position to prevent access inside said storage container; said first container portion comprises a first orifice and said second container portion comprises a second orifice configured and disposed to be aligned upon said first container portion and said second container portion being in said closed position to form a passage through said storage container; said first container portion comprises a releasable locking tab; said second container portion comprises a locking slot configured to receive said releasable locking tab to releasably lock said first container portion and said second container portion together in said closed position; said first container portion comprises a first planar body and first side walls disposed transverse to and extending from said first planar body; said second container portion comprises a second planar body and second side walls disposed transverse to and extending from said second planar body; said first planar body having the same shape as said second planar body such that said first side walls match and engage said second side walls upon said first container portion and said second container portion being in said closed position; said first side walls together comprise a first channel configured to receive and contain a first rubber gasket; said second side walls together comprise a second channel configured to receive and contain said a second rubber gasket; each of said first planar body and said second planar body having an octagonal shape; at least one of said first planar body and said second planar body having a medical symbol printed thereon to further indicate that medical information is located inside said storage container; said medical symbol is colored in a first color suitable to indicate medical information and said storage container is colored in a different second color suitable to indicate medical information and of high contrast to said first color;a sealing arrangement being configured and disposed to provide a waterproof seal between said first container portion and said second container portion upon said first container portion and said second container portion being in said closed position to protect medical information stored in said storage container from damage from moisture; said sealing arrangement is connected to one of said first container portion and said second container portion; said sealing arrangement comprises said first rubber gasket connected to said first container portion and said second rubber gasket connected to said second container portion;a connecting structure configured to connect said storage container to a sports bag; said connecting structure comprises a tether configured to support said storage container in a suspended manner from the sports bag; said tether comprises a first end portion configured to loop through said passage and a second end portion configured to loop through a portion of the sports bag; said first end portion comprises a first opening and a first retaining tab configured to be inserted into said first opening to releasably lock said first end portion in a closed loop; said second end portion comprises a second opening and a second retaining tab configured to be inserted into said second opening to releasably lock said second end portion in a second closed loop; said connecting structure is configured to connect said storage container to a golf bag;an information recording structure disposed in said storage container and configured to display medical information of a user; said information recording structure comprises a writing pad attached to said second container portion and configured to permit a user to write current and updated medical information thereon;a writing implement disposed in said storage container; anda receptacle structure disposed in said second container portion and configured to hold said writing implement.
