Description

A HEARING DEVICEFIELD

[0001] The present invention relates to hearing devices. More specifically, the disclosure relates to a hearing device comprising an ear cup and a headband.BACKGROUND

[0002] There are different types of hearing devices such as on-the-ear (OTE) hearing devices. The OTE hearing devices comprises one ear cup or a pair of ear cups which are hold together by a band. A user typically wears such hearing devices by placing the ear cups on user’s ears such that the band rests on the user’s head. Different users may have different head sizes and thus the OTE hearing devices have been developed such that the user may increase or decrease a length of the band to place the ear cups on the ears. However, different users may have different head shapes or preferences and may thus find it uncomfortable to wear a hearing device for a long time. Therefore, there is still a need for an improved OTE hearing device that may be adjusted according to the user’s head shape or preferences.SUMMARY

[0003] Disclosed is a hearing device. The hearing device is configured to be worn by a user. The hearing device comprises a first ear cup. The first ear cup is configured to rest at an ear of the user. The hearing device further comprises a headband. The headband is configured to rest on top of the user’s head. The headband extends along a first direction. The headband has a first end, and a second end. The first ear cup is connected to one of the first end or the second end of the headband. The headband comprises an upper band. The upper band extends along the first direction, from a first joint to a second joint of the headband. The upper band has a first length. The headband comprises a lower band. The lower band extends along the first direction, from the first joint to the second joint of the headband. The lower band has a second length. The headband comprises an adjustment element. The adjustment element is configured to adjustably be arranged at a middle portion of the headband. The middle portion extends along the first direction. The upper band and the lower band are fixedly joined together at the first joint between the middle portion and the respective first end and at the second joint between the middle portion and the second end of the headband. The first length is longer  than the second length. The adjustment element is configured to adjust a distance between the upper band and the lower band along a second direction.

[0004] In some embodiments, the hearing device further comprises a second ear cup. The second ear cup is configured to rest at another ear of the user. The second ear cup is connected to another of the first end or the second end of the headband.

[0005] It is an advantage that the adjustment element is configured to adjust a distance between the upper band and the lower band along a second direction. The adjusting of the distance between the upper band and the lower band along the second direction in turns allows for adjusting a clamping force applied on the user’s ear by the first ear cup. In the case that the hearing device comprises the first ear cup and the second ear cup, the adjusting of the distance between the upper band and the lower band along the second direction in turns allows for adjusting the clamping forces applied on the user’s ears by the first ear cup and the second ear cup. Thus, the present inventive concept allows for obtaining a simple, light and easy to manufacture hearing device that allows the user to comfortably adjust the clamping force in a simple and user-friendly manner. In addition, the present inventive concept allows different users having different head shapes or preferences to comfortably adjust the clamping force and thus comfortably wear the hearing device for a long time.

[0006] The adjusting of the distance between upper band and the lower band by the adjustment element may not change the distance between the first end and the second end of the headband or between the first ear cup and the other end of the hearing device not being connected to any ear cup. In the case that the hearing device comprises the first ear cup and the second ear cup, adjusting of the distance between upper band and the lower band by the adjustment element may not change the distance between the first ear cup and the second ear cup.

[0007] The adjusting of the distance between upper band and the lower band by the adjustment element may advantageously change the distance between the first end and the second end of the hearing device or between the first ear cup and the other end of the hearing device not being connected to any ear cup. In the case that the hearing device comprises the first ear cup and the second ear cup, adjusting of the distance between upper band and the lower band by  the adjustment element may change the distance between the first ear cup and the second ear cup. For example, when the adjustment element adjusts the distance between the upper band and the lower band along the second direction to a larger distance than an initial distance, the distance between the first end and the second end of the hearing device or between the first ear cup and the other end of the hearing device, not being connected to any ear cup, may accordingly increase. In the case that the hearing device comprises the first ear cup and the second ear cup, when the adjustment element adjusts the distance between the upper band and the lower band along the second direction to a larger distance than an initial distance, the distance between the first ear cup and the second ear cup may accordingly increase. The adjusting the distance, between the upper band and the lower band along the second direction, to the larger distance than the initial distance may in turn decrease the clamping force applied on the user’s ear (s) .

[0008] Another example, when the adjustment element adjusts the distance between the upper band and the lower band along the second direction to a smaller distance than the initial distance, the distance between the first end and the second end of the hearing device or between the first ear cup and the other end of the hearing device, not being connected to any ear cup, may accordingly decrease. In the case that the hearing device comprises the first ear cup and the second ear cup, when the adjustment element adjusts the distance between the upper band and the lower band along the second direction to a smaller distance than the initial distance, the distance between the first ear cup and the second ear cup may accordingly decrease. The adjusting the distance, between the upper band and the lower band along the second direction, to the smaller distance than the initial distance may in turn increase the clamping force applied on the user’s ear (s) .

[0009] The first ear cup is configured to rest at an ear of the user. The first ear cup may be configured to rest over the user’s ear. The first ear cup may completely cover the user’s ear. The first ear cup may partially cover the user’s ear. The first ear cup may have any shapes e.g. a circular shape. The first ear cup may be any conventional and commercially available ear cup.

[0010] The second ear cup may be configured to rest at another ear of the user. The second ear cup may be configured to rest over the another ear of the user ear. The second ear cup may completely cover the another ear of the user. The second ear cup may partially cover the  another ear of the user. The second ear cup may have any shapes e.g. a circular shape. The second ear cup may be any conventional and commercially available ear cup.

[0011] The headband extends along the first direction. The first direction may be a direction extending from an ear of the user to another ear of the user. The headband has a first end and a second end. The first end and the second end may be arranged at opposite ends of the headband. The headband comprises the upper band and the lower band. The lower band may be configured to be arranged closer to the user’s head than the upper band, when the user is wearing the hearing device at its intended position. Thus, a distance between the lower band and the user’s head, along the second direction, may be smaller than a distance between the upper band and the user’s head, when the user is wearing the hearing device at its intended position.

[0012] The upper band may have a first end and a second end. The lower band may also have a first end and a second end. The upper band extends along the first direction from the first joint to the second joint of the headband. The lower band extends along the first direction from the first joint to the second joint. The first joint may be the first end. The first joint may not be the first end. The first joint may be arranged between the middle portion and the first end. The headband may comprise a first portion / part arranged between the first joint and the first end. For instance, the headband may comprise an extendable first portion / part arranged between the first joint and the first end to adjust for different head sizes. The upper band may comprise a first portion / part arranged between the first joint and the first end. For instance, the upper band may comprise an extendable first portion / part arranged between the first joint and the first end to adjust for different head sizes. The lower band may comprise a first portion / part arranged between the first joint and the first end. For instance, the lower band may comprise an extendable first portion / part arranged between the first joint and the first end to adjust for different head sizes.

[0013] The second joint may be the second end. The second joint may not be the second end. The second joint may be arranged between the middle portion and the second end. The headband may comprise a second portion / part arranged between the second joint and the second end. For instance, the headband may comprise an extendable second portion / part arranged between the second joint and the second end to adjust for different head sizes. The upper band may comprise a second portion / part arranged between the second joint and the second  end. For instance, the upper band may comprise an extendable second portion / part arranged between the second joint and the second end to adjust for different head sizes. The lower band may comprise a second portion / part arranged between the second joint and the second end. For instance, the lower band may comprise an extendable second portion / part arranged between the second joint and the second end to adjust for different head sizes.

[0014] In an embodiment, the headband may comprise a third band. The third band may comprise a first portion / part arranged between the first joint and the first end. For instance, the third band may comprise an extendable first portion / part arranged between the first joint and the first end to adjust for different head sizes. The third band may comprise a second portion / part arranged between the second joint and the second end. For instance, the third band may comprise an extendable second portion / part arranged between the second joint and the second end to adjust for different head sizes.

[0015] The upper band and the lower band may be any conventional and commercially available band suitable for a headband of a hearing device. The upper band may have a width in the range of 8 mm to 30 mm. By the width is hereby meant a dimension of the upper band extending from the front of the head to the back of the head, when the user is wearing the hearing device in its intended position. The lower band may have a width in the range of 8 mm to 30 mm. The width of lower band may be similar to the width of the upper band. The width of the lower band may not be similar to the width of the upper band.

[0016] The adjustment element may be any adjustment element which may be configured to adjust the distance between the upper band and the lower band along the second direction. The adjustment element may be arranged such that it may not protrude above the headband. Thus, the adjustment element may be arranged such that it may not affect an appearance of the hearing device.

[0017] The headband may further comprise a cover. The cover may be configured to cover the lower band and the upper band. The cover may also be configured to cover the adjustment element. Thus, the lower band, the upper band or the adjustment element may not be visible from outside i.e. the appearance of the hearing device may be preserved. The cover may comprise  any material suitable for a headband e.g. leather, artificial leather, soft plastics, rubber, mesh fabric, silicon, or foamed cover.

[0018] The middle portion of the headband may be a central portion of the headband. The headband may have a length of L. The middle portion of the headband may be arranged at the middle of the headband i.e. arranged at a position corresponding to half of the length. The middle portion may have a length in the range of 5 mm to 20 mm.

[0019] In an embodiment, a hearing device is configured to be worn by a user. The hearing device may be arranged at the user’s ear, on the user’s ear, over the user’s ear, in the user’s ear, in the user’s ear canal, behind the user’s ear and / or in the user’s concha, i.e., the hearing device is configured to be worn in, on, over and / or at the user’s ear.

[0020] Some of these form factors are on the ear headphones or over the ear headphones. The person skilled in the art is well aware of different kinds of hearing devices and of different options for arranging the hearing device on, over and / or at the ear of the hearing device wearer.

[0021] In an embodiment, the hearing device may comprise one or more input transducers. The one or more input transducers may comprise one or more microphones. The one or more input transducers may comprise one or more vibration sensors configured for detecting bone vibration. The one or more input transducer (s) may be configured for converting an acoustic signal into a first electric input signal. The first electric input signal may be an analogue signal. The first electric input signal may be a digital signal. The one or more input transducer (s) may be coupled to one or more analogue-to-digital converter (s) configured for converting the analogue first input signal into a digital first input signal.

[0022] In an embodiment, the hearing device may comprise one or more wireless communication unit (s) . The one or more wireless communication unit (s) may comprise one or more wireless receiver (s) , one or more wireless transmitter (s) , one or more transmitter-receiver pair (s) and / or one or more transceiver (s) . At least one of the one or more wireless communication unit (s) may be coupled to the one or more antenna (s) . The wireless communication unit may be configured for converting a wireless signal received by at least one of the one or more  antenna (s) into a second electric input signal. The hearing device may be configured for wired / wireless audio communication, e.g. enabling the user to listen to media, such as music or radio and / or enabling the user to perform phone calls.

[0023] In an embodiment, the wireless communication unit may be configured for converting the second electric output signal into a wireless output signal. The wireless output signal may comprise synchronization data. The wireless communication unit may be configured for transmitting the wireless output signal via at least one of the one or more antennas.

[0024] In an embodiment, the hearing device may comprise a power source. The power source may comprise a battery providing a first voltage. The battery may be a rechargeable battery. The battery may be a replaceable battery. The power source may comprise a power management unit. The power management unit may be configured to convert the first voltage into a second voltage. The power source may comprise a charging coil. The charging coil may be provided by the magnetic antenna.

[0025] The hearing device may be configured for audio communication, e.g. enabling the user to listen to media, such as music or radio, and / or enabling the user to perform phone calls. The hearing device may be configured for performing hearing compensation for the user. The hearing device may be configured for performing noise cancellation etc.

[0026] The hearing device may comprise a first input transducer, e.g. a microphone, to generate one or more microphone output signals based on a received audio signal. The audio signal may be an analogue signal. The microphone output signal may be a digital signal. Thus, the first input transducer, e.g. microphone, or an analogue-to-digital converter, may convert the analogue audio signal into a digital microphone output signal. All the signals may be sound signals or signals comprising information about sound.

[0027] In some embodiments, the second direction is perpendicular to the first direction. Thus, the second direction may extend perpendicular to the direction extending from an ear of the user to another ear of the user. The second direction may extend along the head of the user i.e. along a forehead to a chin of the user.

[0028] In some embodiments, the first length is longer than the second length such that there is the distance between the upper band and the lower band along the second direction at the middle portion of the headband when the user is wearing the hearing device at its intended position. In other words, the length difference between the upper band and the lower band creates a distance between the upper band and the lower band along the second direction at the middle portion of the headband when the user is wearing the hearing device at its intended position. The distance may be largest at the middle portion of the headband when the user is wearing the hearing device at its intended position. Increasing the length difference between the upper band and the lower band may increase the distance between the upper band and the lower band along the second direction at the middle portion of the headband when the user is wearing the hearing device at its intended position.

[0029] In some embodiments, the adjustment element is configured to adjustably be attached to the upper band and the lower band at the middle portion of the headband. Thus, the adjustment element may be attached to the upper band and the lower band in an adjustable manner to adjust the distance between the upper band and the lower band along the second direction.

[0030] In some embodiments, the adjustment element is configured to extend along the second direction. The adjustment element is configured to apply a force to the upper band and the lower band along the second direction, at the middle portion of the headband, to adjust the distance between the upper band and the lower band along the second direction. Thus, the adjustment element may adjust the distance between the upper band and the lower band along the second direction by applying the force to the upper band and the lower band along the second direction, at the middle portion of the headband. For example, the adjustment element may apply a higher force to the upper band and the lower band along the second direction, at the middle portion of the headband to bring the upper band closer to the lower band and thus decrease the distance between the upper band and the lower band along the second direction. Another example, the adjustment element may apply a lower force to the upper band and the lower band along the second direction, at the middle portion of the headband to move the upper band further away from the lower band and thus increase the distance between the upper band and the lower band along the second direction.

[0031] In some embodiments, the adjustment element is configured to increase or decrease the distance between the upper band and the lower band along the second direction. For example, the adjustment element may be a screw attaching the upper band to the lower band at the middle portion of the headband. In this example, screwing the adjustment element may decrease the distance between the upper band and the lower band along the second direction. In this example, unscrewing the adjustment element may increase the distance between the upper band and the lower band along the second direction.

[0032] In some embodiments, the distance between the upper band and the lower band along the second direction and at the middle portion of the headband can be adjusted to be at least 10 mm. The distance between the upper band and the lower band along the second direction and at the middle portion of the headband may be designed according to user’s head shape or user’s preferences e.g. desired clamping force.

[0033] In some embodiments, the upper band has a first stiffness in the range of 1 to 3 N / m. In some embodiments, the lower band (40) has a second stiffness in the range of 2 to 6 N / m. The stiffness of the upper band and the lower band may be adjusted by modifying a material composition of the upper band and / or the lower band.

[0034] In some embodiments, the adjustment element is configured to adjust a position of the upper band with respect to the lower band along the second direction at the middle portion of the headband. The position may correspond to an arrangement / location / height of the upper band with respect to the lower band along the second direction at the middle portion of the headband.

[0035] In some embodiments, the first length of the upper band is in the range of 100 mm to 200 mm. In some embodiments, the second length of the lower band is in the range of 90 mm to 170 mm. In some embodiments, the first length is at least 10 mm larger than the second length. This may correspond to a minimum distance of 10 mm between the upper band and the lower band along the second direction and at the middle portion of the headband.

[0036] In some embodiments, the upper band and / or the lower band comprises a flexible metal material. The flexible metal material may be in the form of a metal sheet. The metal sheet may be slotted at the middle portion. The metal sheet may not be slotted at the middle portion. The upper band and / or the lower band may comprise a mixture comprising the flexible metal material such as an alloy.

[0037] In some embodiment, the adjustment element comprises a screw. Thus, the adjustment element may be simple and light. The adjustment element may not comprise a screw. The adjustment element may be any conventional and commercially available adjustment element suitable for a hearing device.

[0038] The present invention relates to different aspects including the hearing device and in the following, and corresponding device parts, each yielding one or more of the benefits and advantages described in connection with the first mentioned aspect, and each having one or more embodiments corresponding to the embodiments described in connection with the first mentioned aspect and / or disclosed in the appended claims.BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWINGS
