[0123] FIG. 8 shows a flowchart of a method according to an embodiment of the present disclosure.
[0124] In the present disclosure, a Cell A having a coverage of a certain area may be a cell supporting an energy saving state and / or a cell in the energy saving state. In addition, the cell in the energy saving state may be called “energy saving cell” .
[0125] In the present disclosure, a Cell B refers to a neighboring cell of the Cell A or a (neighboring) cell in a neighboring frequency of the Cell A.
[0126] In the present disclosure, synchronous signal may refer to synchronization signal or signal used for synchronization.
[0127] In the present disclosure, the term “energy saving” may refer to “energy saving state” or “energy saving mode” .
[0128] In the present disclosure, a frequency may refer to a frequency point and / or the frequency domain resource.
[0129] Configuration of Energy Saving
[0130] When there is a coverage in a certain area for the Cell A, the Cell A may consider entering the energy saving (state) . In cases where a load is low or there are no service terminals (e.g., UE (user equipment) ) in the certain area, the Cell A may choose / determine to reduce transmissions of common channel (s) . For example, the Cell A may send SSB (s) (synchronization signal / physical broadcast channel block) and / or synchronous signal (s) and / or DRS signals with a larger / longer cycle / period. In order to facilitate measurements at the UE side, the Cell A may need to notify the UE related configuration.
[0131] In an embodiment, methods for configuration include one or more of:
[0132] - The cell may broadcast via SIB (system information block) or configure via RRC one or more sets of energy-saving configurations. In an embodiment, the one or more sets of energy-saving configurations include at least one of the following information and / or indication field:
[0133] - whether the cell supports energy-saving; energy-saving time information;
[0134] - whether to send energy-saving SSB, synchronous signal or DRS (i.e., sending the SSB, synchronous signal or DRS in the energy saving state or with a larger / longer cycle / period) ,
[0135] - a configuration of energy-saving SSB or synchronous or DRS: The configuration comprises at least one of a starting time, a period or a multiple of SSB / synchronous signal / DRS;
[0136] - whether to receive energy-saving PRACH or SR (scheduling request) or SDT (small data transmission) , e.g., whether to receive PRACH or SR or SDT (small data transmission) in the energy saving state, or
[0137] – a configuration of the energy-saving PRACH or SR or SDT, such as the starting time, period, multiple, etc. of PRACH or SR or SDT.
[0138] Specifically, the SIB broadcasts or RRC configures multiple sets of energy-saving configurations, wherein each set of energy-saving configurations includes at least one of an index, energy-saving time information, configuration of energy-saving SSB or synchronous or DRS, and configuration of the energy-saving PRACH or SR or SDT.
[0139] During the effective time of the energy-saving, signals (such as SSB or synchronization signal or DRS, PRACH or SR or SDT) are sent or received according to the energy-saving configuration. For example, the signals are sent or received according to the starting time, the period and the multiple. If the energy-saving configuration of the signals sets the start time of the signal, the set start time can be an absolute time or an offset from the start time of the energy-saving time information and the signal is sent or received according to the set start time. If the energy-saving configuration of signals does not set the start time of the signals, the start time is calculated within the energy-saving duration based on the start time and cycle of the signal configuration. Outside of effective time of the energy-saving, the signals are sent and / or received according to the start time and cycle of the original signal configuration (i.e., signal configuration other than the energy saving configuration) . If the energy-saving configuration of signal does not configure the duration or end time of the energy-saving, the end time is up to the end time of energy-saving time information or indicated by the cell.
[0140] If the energy-saving configuration of signals (such as SSB or synchronization signal or DRS, PRACH or SR or SDT) is set by the multiple, the period of the signals is (original period *multiple) .
[0141] FIG. 1 shows a schematic diagram of the signals according to an embodiment of the present disclosure. In this embodiment, the configuration of energy-saving time information includes: the start time of the energy saving or the start time of the (energy saving) signal, and the duration of energy saving or the end time of the energy saving.
[0142] FIG. 2 shows a schematic diagram of the signals according to an embodiment of the present disclosure. In this embodiment, the configuration of energy-saving time information includes: the start time of the energy saving, (energy saving) duration within the (energy saving) cycle and period of the signals within the (energy saving) cycle. As an alternative, the configuration of energy-saving time information includes: the start time of signals, the (energy saving) duration within the (energy saving) cycle, (energy saving) cycle, and the duration or the end time of the energy saving. If the energy-saving configuration sets a cycle, the energy-saving duration appears according to the cycle.
[0143] Enabling Energy Saving
[0144] In an embodiment, methods of enabling the energy saving configuration comprises at least one of:
[0145] - The cell notifies the UE through PDCCH (physical downlink control channel) or a short message to enable the energy-saving configuration. For example, the cell sends the PDCCH or the short message carrying instructions for enabling an energy-saving configuration and / or an index of the (enabled) energy-saving configuration. After receiving the PDCCH or the short message, the UE accordingly applies the relevant energy-saving configuration. Similarly, the cell may notify the UE, through the PDCCH or the short message, to disable the energy-saving configuration. For instance, the cell sends the PDCCH or the short messages carrying instructions for disabling the energy-saving configuration, an end time of energy-saving time, or an index of energy-saving configuration. After receiving such PDCCH or short message, the UE restores the original configuration which is used before enabling the energy-saving configuration.
[0146] - The cell notifies the UE through paging message (s) to enable the energy-saving configuration. For example, the cell sends, to the UE, a paging message carrying instructions for enabling the energy-saving configuration, the energy-saving configuration, an index of the energy-saving configuration, or the energy-saving time information. After receiving the paging message, the UE applies relevant energy-saving configuration. Similarly, the cell notifies the UE through paging messages to disable the energy-saving configuration. For instance, the cell sends a paging message carrying an indication of disabling the energy-saving configuration, the end time of the energy-saving time, or an index of energy-saving configuration. After receiving such paging message, the UE restores the configuration which is used before enabling the energy-saving configuration.
[0147] - The cell adds energy-saving information for common reference signals (e.g., SSB / synchronization signal / DRS) in DCI (downlink control information) of enabling cell DTX (discontinuous transmission) . Specifically, in an embodiment, when / if the cell DTX is enabled in the cell, the DCI enabling the cell DTX is sent and the energy-saving configuration of the common reference signal is carried in the DCI. In this embodiment, the energy-saving configuration may include an indication of whether to send SSB / synchronization signal / DRS, the period of SSB / synchronization signal / DRS or the configuration index of SSB / synchronization signal / DRS.
[0148] - The cell adds energy-saving information for common reference signals (e.g., SSB / synchronization signal / DRS) in a MAC (media access control) CE (control element) of enabling the cell DTX in the cell. Specifically, when / if the cell DTX needs to be enabled in the cell, a MAC CE for enabling the cell DTX is sent and the energy-saving configuration of the common reference signal is carried in the same MAC CE. In this embodiment, the energy-saving configuration includes an indication of whether to send the common reference signals, the period of the common reference signals, or the configuration index of the common reference signals.
[0149] Low Power Wake-Up Signal (LP-WUS)
[0150] In an embodiment, the energy saving may be supported by using an LP-WUS. That is, in the energy-saving state, the cell A may send the LP-WUS (including LP-SS) without sending the SSB and / or synchronous signals and / or DRS signals and / or sparse SSB and / or sparse synchronous signals or sparse DRS signals. In this embodiment, in order to allow the UE to choose a suitable cell, the cell may notify the UE the related information.
[0151] In some embodiments, the cell may notify the UE by at least one of the following methods / operations:
[0152] - The cell could broadcast through the SIB or configure through the RRC one or more sets of energy-saving configuration. The energy-saving configuration includes whether the cell supports the LP-WUS for the energy-saving and the LP-WUS resource configuration including start time, cycle, and duration.
[0153] - The cell notifies the UE through the PDCCH, the short message, or the paging message to enable the LP-WUS. The cell sends PDCCH or short message or paging message which carries instructions of enabling the LP-WUS. After receiving such PDCCH, short message, or paging message, the UE enters a deep sleep mode (i.e., energy saving sate) and monitors the LP-WUS.
[0154] - During the energy-saving period / duration, the UE monitors DL (downlink) LP-WUS. If receiving the LP-WUS, the UE resumes normal measurements of the SSB and monitors for paging messages. Specifically, during the energy-saving period, the UE monitors the relevant LP-WUS sent by the cell. The relevant LP-WUS may be the LP-WUS used to indicate the end of energy-saving. The cell may configure the time-frequency resources of this LP-WUS or this LP-WUS carries an indicator bit or the end time to indicate the end of energy-saving. Once / after receiving the relevant LP-WUS, the UE resumes the normal measurements of the SSB and / or listens for the paging messages.
[0155] New State
[0156] When / If the cell is in the energy-saving state, the cell may be shut down or choose to reduce the transmissions of MIB or SIB1 and / or to send the SSB, the synchronization signals, or the DRS signals in a larger / longer cycles / periods. When / If the terminal needs services, the cell needs to wake up and restore the services for the terminal. In an embodiment, the terminal may send (LP) WUSs to help and / or to wake up the cell. However, if the terminal cannot periodically measure the common reference signal of the energy-saving cell and cannot camp on the energy-saving cell, the terminal may choose to move to another cell. In order to allow the terminal to camp on the energy-saving cell, a new state may be introduced. In the new state, the UE selects a cell , and does not receive or measure SSB of the selected cell, does not receive system information of the selected cell, or does not listen to paging of the selected cell. In an embodiment, the new state may be a new state of RRC, or a sub state of (RRC) idle or (RRC) inactive state.
[0157] In an embodiment, the conditions for the UE to enter or exit the new state comprises at least one of:
[0158] - The Cell broadcasts the information of the new state (e.g., the cell supports, enables or disables the new state) and / or the time information of the new state (e.g., the start time and duration or the end time) ;
[0159] - For the UE in the idle / active state, the UE selects a cell A that enables energy-saving information or enters the energy-saving state. The UE enters the new state at the start time of energy-saving based on the energy-saving information and exits the new state at the end time to enter the idle / active state;
[0160] - If there is no data to transmit or receive in the idle / active state for a certain period of time, the UE enters the new state. When the data arrives or the new state ends, the UE exits the new state. Specifically, the NAS layer indicates that the RRC enters a new state, the NAS layer indicates the time information of the new state to RRC, or the NAS layer indicates that the UE has no data for a certain period of time. The RRC enters the new state according to the NAS instruction or the start time of the new state or the start time of no data. Next, the NAS layer may indicate the RRC to exit the new state and / or the NAS layer may indicate the RRC to initiate the establishment of the RRC. The RRC exits the new state according to the NAS instructions or the end time of the new state or the end time of no data;
[0161] - The UE in the idle / active state and is in a stationary or a low-speed moving state. When the RSRP and / or RSRQ values measured by the UE are greater than a threshold value, or a variation of the RSRP and / or RSRQ values is less than a threshold value, the UE can enter the new state. Otherwise, UE is in idle / active state; or
[0162] - The UE in the new state listens to the DL LP-WUS. If the DL LP-WUS is received, the UE exits the new state and enters the idle / active state. Specifically, the UE in the new state listens to or monitors the relevant LP-WUS sent by the cell. The relevant LP-WUS is the LP-WUS used to wake up the UE in the new state. The cell configures the time-frequency resources of the LP-WUS, or the LP-WUS carries an indicator bit for waking up the UE in the new state. Once / after receiving the relevant LP-WUS, the UE exits the new state and enters the idle / active state.
[0163] In an embodiment, when / if the UE exits the new state and the cell remains in the energy-saving state, the UE may send a WUS to wake up the cell.
[0164] Power Saving Mode / Extended Discontinuous Reception (PSM / eDRX)
[0165] When / if the cell is in the energy-saving state, the cell may be shut down or choose to reduce the transmissions of the common signals (e.g., SSB, SS, DRS signals) . In order to reduce the power consumption of the detection of the common signals at the terminal side, the network may enable the PSM or eDRX at the terminal side. The inactive time for the PSM or eDRX is the energy-saving time of the cell.
[0166] In an embodiment, the core network configures the PSM or eDRX for UE based on the energy-saving time of one or more cells. The inactive time in PSM or eDRX is the energy-saving time of the cell. The core network sends the time information of PSM or eDRX to UE through NAS messages.
[0167] In an embodiment, the core network configures one or more sets of PSM or eDRX configurations for UE based on the energy-saving time, and at least one set of PSM or eDRX configuration is associated with energy-saving information of the cell. The energy-saving information includes at least one of the following information and / or indication fields: whether the PSM or eDRX configuration is applied in the energy-saving state, whether the PSM or eDRX configurations supports the energy-saving, or the cell identity. For example, the core network may configure two sets of PSM or eDRX configurations for the UE, wherein one of the configured two sets is associated with the energy-saving information, which comprises the identity of a certain cell that supports energy-saving. In this configuration, the inactive time of the PSM or eDRX is the energy-saving time of the cell. The core network sends the time information of the PSM or eDRX to UE through NAS messages. After receiving the NAS message, if the cell on which the UE camps supports or enables the energy saving, the UE applies the associated energy-saving PSM or eDRX configuration.
[0168] In an embodiment, the core network allocates an offset to the UE based on the energy-saving time of one or more cells, which is applied to the starting time of PSM or eDRX. For example, the starting time of PSM or eDRX plus or minus the offset is the final starting time. If the cell or core network enables the energy-saving state, the UE applies this offset. If the cell or core network does not enable the energy-saving state, the UE does not apply this offset.
[0169] UE Measurements in Energy Saving Cell
[0170] When the cell A is in an energy-saving state, the cell A is shut down or chooses to reduce the transmissions of the common channels / signals (e.g., SSB / SS / DRS) . In this case, the UE may choose to go to other cells. When the cell A exits / leaves the energy-saving state and the normal signal transmissions and receptions are restored, the UE may reselect the cell A.
[0171] In an embodiment, the cell may broadcast or configure the configuration about the energy-saving cell or frequency. The configuration may include at least one of: a frequency list, a cell configuration list, an indication indicating that the frequency or cell supports or is performing the energy-saving state. Specifically, the cell B broadcasts or configures the neighboring frequency A or neighboring cell A, the configuration about frequency A includes the frequency, the indication indicating the frequency A supports or is performing energy-saving state, and the cell configuration list. and the cell configuration includes the cell identity A, the indication indicating the cell A supports or is performing energy-saving state. The cell configuration also includes whether to send energy-saving SSB or synchronous or DRS signals, configuration of energy-saving SSB or synchronous or DRS. The cell configuration also includes energy-saving time information.
[0172] In an embodiment, if a cell is in energy-saving state, the UE may not bar this cell. Specifically, if the UE cannot detect SSB or MIB or SIB in a cell in energy-saving state, the UE may not bar this cell.
[0173] In the present disclosure, if a cell is barred, the UE does not select the cell (e.g., for communications) .
[0174] In an embodiment, if a cell / frequency is in energy-saving state, the UE may prioritize this cell to be measured. Specifically, if the UE cannot / does not detect SSB or MIB or SIB in a cell in the energy-saving state, the UE may prioritize this cell to be measured. If the UE cannot / does not search a cell in a frequency in the energy-saving state, the UE may prioritize this cell to be measured.
[0175] In some embodiments, when / if the cell is in the energy-saving state, for example, the cell chooses to reduce the transmissions of MIB or SIB1, or to send the SSB, synchronous signals, or DRS with larger cycles. In order to allow the UE to camp on the cell in the energy-saving state, the UE can measure the cell. For example, the UE may perform at least one of the following operations:
[0176] - The UE supports measuring the cell in the energy-saving state.
[0177] - The UE applies different measurement rules for the serving cell in the energy-efficient / energy-saving state. Specifically, for UE in the idle / active state, the UE camps on a cell. If this cell is in the energy-saving state and sends common reference signal such as SSB or synchronization or DRS signals, in a larger period, the UE perform measurements related to the energy-saving state, and measure SSB signals, synchronization signals, or DRS signals based on the configuration of energy-saving state, such as the start and end times of energy-saving, as well as the period of sending SSB signals, synchronization signals, or DRS signals.
[0178] - The UE applies different measurement rules for the neighboring cell in the energy-efficient state. Specifically, for the UE in the idle / active state, the UE may camp on a cell broadcasting the energy-saving information of the neighboring cell. If this neighboring cell is in the energy-saving state and / or sends the common reference signals (e.g., SSB or synchronization signal or DRS) , in a larger period, the UE performs measurements related to the energy-saving state and measures the common reference signals based on the configuration of the energy-saving state. The configuration of the energy-saving state may comprise the start and end times of energy-saving and / or the period of sending the common reference signal (i.e., the SSB, the synchronization signals, or DRS) .
[0179] - If the UE measures the DRS signal and obtains the measurement result, the UE may convert the measurement result of the DRS into measurement results of the SSB signals or synchronous signals based on a proportion or an offset. Specifically, the UE measures the DRS signal and obtains the measurement results (e.g., received DRS signal strength) . The UE multiplies the measurement results of the DRS by a certain ratio and / or adds a certain offset value to the measurement results of the DRS, to obtain the RSRP measurement results of the SSB / synchronous signal.
[0180] UE Camping on Energy Saving Cell
[0181] When a cell is in the energy-saving state, e.g., such as shutting down the cell, or choosing to reduce the transmissions of MIB or SIB1, or to send SSB, synchronization, or DRS signals in larger cycles, the UE may still camp on the cell.
[0182] In an embodiment, the UE supports camping on an energy-saving cell.
[0183] In an embodiment, the UE applies different cell reselection rules for the energy-efficient cell (s) . Specifically, for the UE in the idle / active state, the UE applies energy-saving related cell reselection rules for cells that support or are in the energy-saving state. The UE applies conventional cell reselection rules to cells that do not support or are not in the energy-saving mode / state.
[0184] In an embodiment, if the cell plans to save energy or has already saved energy (i.e., plan to enter or is in the energy saving state) , the UE supports measurements related to the energy saving state and meets the conditions for camping on the cell. Specifically, if the cell adopts a large-period transmission of the SSB signals, the synchronous signals or the DRS signals, the UE can measure the SSB signals, the synchronous signals or the DRS signals having the large period. Under such conditions, the UE meets the conditions for camping on the cell.
[0185] In an embodiment, if the cell plans or has already saved the energy and if the UE is a center user in the cell and / or if the UE is stationary at low speed, the UE meets the conditions for camping on the cell. Specifically, if the measurement results of the SSB signal, the synchronous signal or the DRS signal is greater than a threshold value or the variation of the measurement results is less than a threshold value, the UE meets the conditions for camping on the cell.
[0186] In an embodiment, an energy-saving frequency priority offset is introduced. If the Cell A supports the energy-saving, a cell reselection criteria R value for cell A is added with a (n) (energy-saving) frequency priority offset. Specifically, if the Cell A is in the energy-saving state, the Cell A or the Cell B broadcasts the configuration information of the Cell A and sets the frequency priority offset of the frequency where the Cell A is located. When calculating / determining the cell reselection criteria for Cell A, the UE acquires / calculates a sum of the R value of the Cell A and the frequency priority offset. If (the measurement results of) Cell A meets the cell reselection criteria of the Cell A, the UE camps on the Cell A.
[0187] In an embodiment, an energy-saving priority offset is introduced for the cell. If the cell A supports the energy-saving, the cell reselection criterion R value for cell A is added to the cell priority offset. Specifically, Cell A is in an energy-saving state, Cell A or Cell B broadcasts the configuration information of Cell A and sets the priority offset of Cell A. So, when calculating the cell reselection criteria for cell A, the R value of cell A will be added with the cell priority offset. If cell A meets the cell reselection criteria, UE will first camp on cell A.
[0188] Blacklist
[0189] If the cell is in the energy-saving state, certain UE cannot camp on the energy-saving cell due to its inability to support the energy-saving, such as long-period SSB, synchronization signal or DRS. In comparison, the UE supporting the energy-saving can camp on the energy-saving cell.
[0190] In an embodiment, an additional instruction is introduced to bar cell (s) for UEs that support the energy saving. For example, the broadcasted system information comprises a cell bar indication and / or an additional cell bar indication. If the system information comprising the cell bar indication is broadcasted to prohibit the access to the cell due to the energy saving, the UE not supporting the energy saving (e.g., legacy UE) bars the cell and the UE supporting the energy saving ignores the cell bar indication. If the system information having the additional cell bar indication is broadcasted to prohibit the access, the UE not supporting the energy saving ignores additional cell bar indication and the UE supporting the energy saving bars this cell.
[0191] In an embodiment, an additional excluded cell list for the UE that support the energy saving UE is introduced at each frequency. For the UE not supporting the energy saving (e.g., legacy UE) , the serving cell may add neighboring cells that support or are in the energy-saving state to the excluded cell list, to prevent the legacy UE from selecting these neighboring cells. For the UE that supports energy saving, the serving cell can provide an additional excluded cell list that does not include the neighboring cells that support energy saving or are in the energy saving state. If the serving cell provides an additional excluded cell list for UE that support energy-saving or provides an additional excluded cell list for UE that support energy-saving and the excluded cell list for the legacy UE is empty, the UE that supports the energy-saving excludes the neighboring cells based on this additional excluded cell list and ignore the excluded cell list for the legacy UE. If the serving cell does not or cannot provide an additional excluded cell list for UE that supports the energy-saving, the serving cell broadcasts an excluded cell list and does not broadcast the additional excluded cell list. The UE that supports the energy-saving excludes the neighboring cells according to the excluded cell list for the legacy UE. Specifically, cell A is an energy-saving cell, and cell B broadcasts an excluded cell list 1 for the legacy UE and an additional excluded cell list 2 for the UE supporting the energy-saving. Because the cell A is in the energy saving state, the excluded cell list 1 comprises cell A and the excluded cell list 2 does not comprise add cell A. In an embodiment, the excluded cell list 2 may be an empty list. Under such conditions, the legacy UE reads only the excluded cell list 1 and excludes the cell A (for cell re-selection) . The UE that supports the energy-saving ignores the excluded cell list 1 and reads the excluded cell list 2. Thus, the UE that supports the energy-saving does not exclude the cell A. If the Cell B broadcasts only the excluded cell list 1, the excluded cell list 1 does not comprise the Cell A. The UE supporting the energy-saving reads the excluded cell list 1 and does not exclude the cell A (for cell (re) selection) .
[0192] Increase in Paging Opportunities
[0193] If the cell enables the energy-saving, the cell may stop sending paging messages, which may cause delay in paging messages. To avoid this issue, the cell may increase paging opportunities (e.g., PO (paging occasion) ) before / after the energy-saving time and send the paging messages to the UE.
[0194] In an embodiment, the cell enables additional paging time and frequency resources. Specifically, the cell enables additional paging (time and frequency) resources in the system information message, which means that the additional paging resources take effect. As an alternative or in addition, when the energy-saving time takes effect, the associated additional paging resources takes effect (e.g., the additional paging (time and frequency) resources before and after the energy-saving time are enabled) .
[0195] In an embodiment, the cell may broadcast an offset, which is / indicates a difference between the energy saving start time and a start or end time of the additional paging time resource. As an alternative or in addition, the offset is / indicates a difference between the energy-saving end time and the start or end time of the additional paging time resource.
[0196] FIG. 3 shows a schematic diagram of new paging occasions according to an embodiment of the present disclosure. In this embodiment, the cell may broadcast a duration which is / indicates an effective time of the additional paging time resources (e.g., new PO in FIG. 3) . In an embodiment, the effective PDCCH resource is the PDCCH resource used for paging during its duration. The UE may only monitor these PDCCHs within the duration.
[0197] In an embodiment, the cell may broadcast the PDCCH resource (s) for paging within the duration. Specifically, the cell broadcasts the configuration of PDCCH resources for sending paging messages, including the start time, duration, and cycle of PDCCH. These PDCCH resources are only valid for the duration. After receiving the configuration of PDCCH resources, the UE monitors (only) these PDCCHs in the duration.
[0198] In an embodiment, the PDCCH resource configuration for paging is the PDCCH resources of the exiting PO (s) . The existing POs may be POs for other UEs and the UE does not monitor these POs. If the cell enables the additional paging time resources, the UE monitors these POs for a duration.
[0199] In an embodiment, if the additional paging time resource takes effect, the UE monitors all the effective PDCCH within the additional paging time resource.
[0200] In an embodiment, if the additional paging time resource takes effect, the UE listens to its own PDCCH based on the UE identify. Specifically, within the duration, there are N POs that are grouped based on UE identify. For example, the UE listens for an n-th PO within the additional paging time resource, where n = ( (UE ID) mod N) .
[0201] In an embodiment, if the UE receives its own paging during the additional paging time resource, the UE no longer listens to the original PO.
[0202] In an embodiment, if UE does not listen to its own paging message during the additional paging time resource, the UE continues to listen to the original PO.
[0203] Sparse Paging Opportunities
[0204] If the cell enables energy conservation (e.g., energy saving) , it may reduce the frequency and / or times of sending of paging messages.
[0205] In an embodiment, the cell enables sparse paging time and frequency resources. Specifically, the serving cell enables sparse paging time resource in system information messages, which means sparse paging time takes effect. Alternatively, when the energy-saving time takes effect, the associated sparse paging time takes effect, for example, during the duration of the energy-saving time, the sparse paging time takes effect.
[0206] In an embodiment, the cell broadcasts a sparse DRX cycle, or a multiple. The sparse DRX cycle is the DRX cycle applied by UE within the energy-saving duration. Alternatively, the DRX cycle that UE apply within the energy-saving duration is (multiple *the original DRX cycle) .
[0207] In an embodiment, the cell broadcasts a sparse PDCCH resource configuration for paging. The PDCCH resource is valid for the energy-saving duration. Specifically, the cell broadcasts the configuration of PDCCH resources for paging, including the start time, duration, and cycle of PDCCH. These PDCCH resources are only valid for the energy-saving duration. After receiving it, UE only monitors these PDCCH for the energy-saving duration.
[0208] In an embodiment, the sparse PDCCH resources are several times sparser than the PDCCH resources of the original PO, that is, during the energy-saving duration, the period of the sparse PDCCH is (the PDCCH period of the original PO *multiple) .
[0209] Assistance Information
[0210] In order to help the cell to enter the energy-saving mode or to choose to send SSB, synchronization, or DRS in larger cycles, the UE in the connected state may send assistance information to the cell, such as UE assistance information and UE Information Response.
[0211] In an embodiment, in RRC dedicated messages, such as RRC reconfiguration messages and UE Information Requests, the cell requests the UE to report assistance information about energy saving.
[0212] In an embodiment, the UE reports whether it can support the energy-saving mode, e.g., based on its own traffic. If the traffic is not urgent, the UE may support the energy-saving mode and report an indication of supporting the energy-saving mode to the cell.
[0213] In an embodiment, the UE reports the expected SSB cycle in the assistance information, e.g., based on its own traffic or movement speed. For example, if the UE moves slowly, the UE can report the expected SSB cycle or an indication of a longer or shorter SSB cycle.
[0214] In an embodiment, the UE reports the expected DRS and DRS cycle, e.g., based on its own traffic or movement speed. For instance, if the UE moves slowly, the UE can report the expectation for DRS, the expected DRS cycle or an indication of a longer or shorter DRS cycle to the cell.
[0215] In an embodiment, the UE reports the expected WUS, e.g., based on its own traffic. For example, if the UE has Delay insensitive traffic, the UE may report the expectation for WUS to the cell.
[0216] In an embodiment, the UE reports the expected PRACH / SDT cycle, e.g., based on its own traffic or movement speed. For example, the UE may report the expected PRACH / SDT cycle or an indication of a longer PRACH / SDT cycle or an indication of a shorter PRACH / SDT cycle to the cell.
[0217] In an embodiment, the UE reports the expected energy saving time information, e.g., based on its own traffic or movement speed. The expected energy saving time information may include the start time, duration, period and so on.
[0218] AMF (access and mobility management function)
[0219] If the energy-saving time is effective, the base station needs to notify the core network (e.g., AMF) , so as to allow the core network to accordingly change the time for sending paging and / or to evaluate / determine the delay of paging.
[0220] In an embodiment, the base station notifies the configuration of the energy-saving time to the core network. Specifically, the base station notifies the AMF of the energy-saving time configuration of a certain cell or frequency through NG messages, such as RAN Configuration UPDATE or new messages. The configuration may include: start time, duration, etc.
[0221] In an embodiment, the base station notifies the core network of the activation or deactivation of the energy-saving time. Specifically, when the energy-saving time of a certain cell or frequency takes effect, the base station carries an indication of the energy-saving time taking effect, the upcoming energy-saving time configuration through NG messages (e.g., RAN Configuration UPDATE or new messages) , to notify the AMF that the energy-saving time of a certain cell is about to take effect or has already taken effect. When the energy-saving time ends, the base station sends an NG message (e.g., RAN Configuration UPDATE) carrying an indication that the energy-saving period has expired, to notify the AMF that the energy-saving period is about to end or has already ended.
[0222] In an embodiment, if the new paging time takes effect, the base station needs to notify the core network about the new paging time and the core network can evaluate the paging delay.
[0223] In an embodiment, the base station notifies the core network of the configuration of the additional paging time resource. Specifically, the base station notifies the AMF of the configuration of the additional paging time resource for a certain cell through NG messages (e.g., RAN Configuration UPDATE) . The configuration may include: start time, offset, duration, etc.
[0224] In an embodiment, the base station notifies the core network of the enabling or disabling of the additional paging time resource. Specifically, when the additional paging time resource for a certain cell takes effect, the base station notifies the AMF through NG messages (e.g., RAN Configuration UPDATE) that the additional paging time resource is about to take effect or has already taken effect. When the additional paging time resource in a certain cell fails, the base station notifies the AMF through NG messages (e.g., RAN CONFIGUATION UPDATE) that the additional paging time resource is about to end or has ended.
[0225] Cell DRX and Cell DTX
[0226] In an embodiment, the cell may configure a cycle, a duration and / or starting time of cell DRX / DTX. The starting time may refer to a starting time of an active period or a starting time of an inactive period of the cell DRX / DTX. The duration may be a duration of the active period or a duration of the inactive period of the cell DRX / DTX. The cycle may be a cycle of the active period or a cycle of the inactive period of the cell DRX / DTX.
[0227] In an embodiment, a pattern of the cell DRX / DTX may use slot as a unit. For example, the starting time may be represented in the unit of slot. Specifically, the starting time may be configured by a starting slot and a starting SFN (system frame number) . That is the starting time =(starting SFN*the number of slots in a system frame) +the starting slot. Similarly, the duration may also be represented in the unit of slot. For example, the duration may be x slot (s) , wherein x is a positive integer. In an embodiment, the Nth inactive period (unit: slot) of the cell DRX / DTX may be:the starting time +N*period, wherein N is a positive integer and both the starting time and the period are in the unit of slot. Because the counting of the SFN is reset every 1024 system frames, the Nth inactive period of the cell DRX / DTX may be: (the starting time +N*period) modulo (1024*the number of slots in single system frame) , wherein N is a positive integer and both the starting time and the period are in the unit of slot.
[0228] As an alternative or in addition, the Nth active period of the cell DRX / DTX may be: (the starting time +N*period) modulo (1024*the number of slots in signal system frame) , wherein N is a positive integer and both the starting time and the period are in the unit of slot.
[0229] In an embodiment, a pattern of the cell DRX / DTX may use symbol as a unit. For example, the starting time may be represented in the unit of symbol. Specifically, the starting time may be configured by a starting symbol, a starting slot and a starting SFN. That is the starting time = (starting SFN*the number of slots in a system frame*the number of symbols in a slot) + (the starting slot*the number of symbols in a slot) +the starting symbol. Similarly, the period may also be represented in the unit of symbol. For example, the period may be y symbol (s) , wherein y is a positive integer. In an embodiment, the Nth inactive period (unit: symbol) of the cell DRX / DTX may be: the starting time +N*period, wherein N is a positive integer and both the starting time and the period are in the unit of symbol. Because the counting of the SFN is reset every 1024 system frames, the Nth inactive period of the cell DRX / DTX may be: [ (starting SFN*the number of slots in a system frame*the number of symbols in a slot) + (the starting slot*the number of symbols in a slot) +the starting symbol+N*period] modulo (1024*the number of symbols in single system frame) , wherein N is a positive integer and both the starting symbol and the period are in the unit of symbol.
[0230] As an alternative or in addition, the Nth active period of the cell DRX / DTX may be: [ (starting SFN*the number of slots in a system frame*the number of symbols in a slot) + (the starting slot*the number of symbols in a slot) +the starting symbol+N*period] modulo (1024*the number of symbols in single system frame) , wherein N is a positive integer and both the starting symbol and the period are in the unit of symbol.

The storage unit 510 may be any data storage device that stores a program code 512, which is accessed and executed by the processor 500. Embodiments of the storage unit 510 include but are not limited to a subscriber identity module (SIM) , read-only memory (ROM) , flash memory, random-access memory (RAM) , hard-disk, and optical data storage device. The communication unit 520 may a transceiver and is used to transmit and receive signals (e.g., messages or packets) according to processing results of the processor 500. In an embodiment, the communication unit 520 transmits and receives the signals via at least one antenna 522 shown in FIG. 5.
