Color-mixing collecting optical unit with improved functionality

Abstract

The invention relates to a full color-mixing optical unit with commercially available RGB-LEDs, for pixels of variable message road signs and message boards and other applications. Proceeding from a known embodiment according to WO 2012 / 068603, a previously unknown freedom in the attainable light distribution, which allows for a more accurate adjustment of the light distribution to specifications and for improved mixing of the colors and which may develop novel applications, is disclosed by way of restricting the chips used in the light sources and the geometry of said chips and a modified light guide design. If the employed chips (R, G, B) are present in a linear dense arrangement and have the same size and emission characteristic, then color mixing is required in this linear direction only. The converging lens (7) has a focal point (Fh) on the exit surface (6) in this linear direction but more freedom of design in the transverse direction thereto.
