[0047] As described above, 6G radio access technology may expect extreme high requirements in terms of latency, reliability and / or throughput and the In-X subnetwork (i.e., subnetwork) may be considered as a promising component of 6G network to meet these extreme performance requirements. The subnetworks may have the following pivotal properties and technical features and the system design for in-X subnetwork shall take the above technical features into account:

[0048] · Support of extreme performance requirements in terms of latency, reliability and / or throughput;

[0049] · Low transmit power, which implies limited coverage range (e.g., in the order of few meters) ;

[0050] · Star or tree topology with one in-X access point (AP) and one or more in-X UEs under AP's control;

[0051] · Overall mobility of access point (AP) and associated UEs, but lack / limited mobility across different subnetworks;

[0052] · Part of overlay Wide Area Network (WAN) network but need to continue to work also when out of network coverage.

[0053] Further, there may be several typical in-X subnetwork use cases. In particular, the use cases of in-robot / in-production module subnetworks and in-vehicle subnetworks have extreme performance requirements in both reliability (up to 6 nines or more) and latency (down to the level of 100us or even below) e.g., for the high demanding periodic deterministic communication services and these use cases may be the most challenging scenarios in sixth generation (6G) system.

[0054] In addition, an enabling technical component for provisioning of extreme performance requirements especially in latency and reliability (e.g., 6 or more nines of reliability in latency of 100us for motion control-like applications in in-production module subnetworks or in-vehicle subnetworks) is the subband channelization of the carder, i.e., the carrier bandwidth is divided into multiple subbands, and each subnetwork operates in one (or more) subband to provide extreme connections. In this case, the subnetwork resource selection is essentially the issue of subband selection for the subnetworks so that each subnetwork is allocated one (or more) subband with the inter-subnetwork interference kept as low as possible, which is critical to fulfilling the extreme performance requirements.

[0055] In an example solution, it proposes a centralized subband allocation scheme with sequential iterative subband allocation based on the information of weighted interferences. In this solution, the AP collects and sums the weighted interference measured by the devices for each of the interfering subnetworks and feedbacks to the BS. The BS constructs the overall interference matrix based on the feedback from all the relevant APs and then make the centralized subband allocation to keep the intersubnetwork interference as low as possible. However, good performances of the centralized subband allocation are achieved at the cost of the significant inter-subnetwork interference feedback to the BS which may not be desired in some subnetwork scenarios.

[0056] In some solutions, the subband selection is performed periodically (with a fixed period) by each subnetwork at a random time within the period and the subband with the lowest aggregated interference (i.e., the total interference combined over the air) is selected by the subnetwork. The subband allocation of the solutions is based on the measurement of the aggregated inter-subnetwork interference.

[0057] As mentioned above, a pivotal feature of subnetworks is the provisioning of the extreme transmission performance (e.g., in reliability, latency, and / or throughput) , which seems practically viable considering the short transmission range within the very small area of the subnetworks. However, the dynamic interference situations mainly caused by the mobility of the subnetworks pose great challenges on fulfilling the extreme performance requirements. Further, it is observed that the interference weighting operation (i.e., interference-to-signal power ratio, instead of just interference power-based operations) plays an important role to improve the system performances. FIG. 1 shows an example of the performance comparison of the subband allocation with or without the weighting operations. Therefore, a solution on how to implement the interference weighting based subband allocation in distributed manner is needed.

[0058] According to example embodiments of the present disclosure, it proposes a transmitting and receiving scheme to enable enhanced distributed subband allocation for subnetworks. In this way, it can avoid large feedback overheads of the subband allocation scheme. Further, it can also achieve good performances.

[0059] FIG. 2 shows an example communication network 100 in which embodiments of the present disclosure can be implemented. As shown in FIG. 2, the communication network 100 may include an access point (AP) 110 (hereinafter may also be referred to as a first device  110 or an in-X subnetwork AP 110) . The AP 110 may be implemented as a terminal device or a network device. The communication network 100 may also include terminal devices 130-1 and 130-2 (hereinafter may also be referred to as an in-X subnetwork terminal device 130, an in-X subnetwork UE 130 or a third device 130 collectively) . The AP 110 may communicate with the terminal devices 130-1 and 130-2 in a coverage of subnetwork 101 (may also referred toa as a first subnetwork 101 hereinafter) , which may be referred to as an in-X subnetwork. The in-X subnetwork may be considered as a part of the communication network 100.

[0060] The communication network 100 may further include a network device 120 (hereinafter may also be referred to as a second device 120 or a base station (BS) 120) , which may communicate with the AP 110 in a coverage of the network 103. In some scenarios, the coverage of the subnetwork 101 may be in the coverage of the network 103. In some other scenarios, the coverage of the subnetwork 101 may be out of the coverage of the network 103.

[0061] Further, the communication network 100 may also include other subnetworks, for example, a subnetwork 102 (may also referred to as a first subnetwork 101 hereinafter) . It is to be understood that the number of in-X subnetworks, network devices and terminal devices shown in FIG. 2 is given for the purpose of illustration without suggesting any limitations. The communication network 100 may include any suitable number of network devices and terminal devices.

[0062] Communications in the communication environment 100 may be implemented according to any proper communication protocol (s) , includes, but not limited to, cellular communication protocols of the first generation (1G) , the second generation (2G) , the third generation (3G) , the fourth generation (4G) , the fifth generation (5G) , the sixth generation (6G) , and the like, wireless local network communication protocols such as Institute for Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) 802.11 and the like, and / or any other protocols currently known or to be developed in the future. Moreover, the communication may utilize any proper wireless communication technology, includes but not limited to: Code Division Multiple Access (CDMA) , Frequency Division Multiple Access (FDMA) , Time Division Multiple Access (TDMA) , Frequency Division Duplex (FDD) , Time Division Duplex (TDD) , Multiple-Input Multiple-Output (MIMO) , Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiple (OFDM) , Discrete Fourier Transform spread OFDM (DFT-s-OFDM) and / or any other technologies currently known or to be developed in the future.

[0063] Example embodiments of the present disclosure will be described in detail below with reference to the accompanying drawings.

[0064] Reference is now made to FIG. 3, which shows a signaling chart 200 for communication according to some example embodiments of the present disclosure. As shown in FIG. 3, the signaling chart 200 involves an in-X subnetwork AP 110 (hereinafter may also be referred to AP 110) , a BS 120 and an in-X subnetwork device 130 (hereinafter may also be referred to device 130) . For the purpose of discussion, reference is made to FIG. 2 to describe the signaling chart 200. Although a single AP 110 and a single device 130 are illustrated in FIG. 3, it would be appreciated that there may be a plurality of APs and a plurality of devices performing similar operations as described with respect to the AP 110 and the device 130 below, respectively.

[0065] In some example embodiments, the BS 120 transmits a configuration to at least one device in the subnetwork 101. For example, as shown in FIG. 3, the BS 120 may transmit (2005) the configuration to the AP 110 in the subnetwork 101. The AP 110 may forward (2005') the configuration to the device 130 in the subnetwork 101. Alternatively, the configuration may be preconfigured at the AP 110 and the device 130. The configuration may be common to all subnetworks, for example, common to the subnetworks 101 and 102.

[0066] The configuration may include a first set of reference signal resources and a second set of reference signal resources. In some example embodiments, the first set of reference signal resources may be used for a downlink transmission, i.e., the transmission from the AP 110 to the device 130. In addition, the second set of reference signal resources may be used for an uplink transmission, i.e., the transmission from the device 130 to the AP 110.

[0067] In some example embodiments, the first set of reference signal resources and the second set of reference signal resources may be provided for each of candidate subbands. Each transmission cycle may include the resources for the downlink transmission and the resources for the uplink transmission. For example, as shown in FIG. 4A, the reference signal resources 310 for the downlink transmission and the reference signal resources 320 for the uplink transmission may be configured within a transmission cycle 340 for a subband 330. The term “transmission cycle” used herein may refer to a basic time domain unit used for resource configurations or data transmissions. It may also be called subframe or frame.

[0068] The configuration may further include a set of parameters. For example, the set of parameters may include a transmission power factor which is used for determining a  transmission power of the downlink and / or uplink transmission within the subnetwork. In some example embodiments, a transmission power factor for the downlink transmission may be different from another transmission power factor for the uplink transmission. By way of example, the transmission factor for the first set of reference signal resources may be represented as and the transmission factor for the second set of reference signal resources may be represented as Altematively, or in addition, the set of parameters may include a reference received reference signal power. The reference received reference signal power may be used in precoding operations by the subnetwork devices for the reference signals over the second set of reference signal resources and also in weighting operations by the subnetwork AP for the measured interferences, and can be denoted as

[0069] The AP 110 transmits (2010) a reference signal (also referred to as “first reference signal” ) over the first set of reference signal resources on the first subband. In other words, the device 130 receives the first reference signal over the first set of reference signal resources on the first subband. For example, the first reference signal may be transmitted over the resources 310 on the subband 330. The first reference signal can be transmitted over the first set of reference signal resources in each transmission cycle. The first subband refers to a first set of time and frequency resources.

[0070] By way of example, it is assumed that a subnetwork, say subnetwork i, is operating on a specific subband, for example, subband k. The AP 110 may transmit the reference signals over the first set of reference signal resources in each transmission cycle over the subband k, denoted as below:

[0071] where denotes the transmission power factor for the transmission by the AP 110, s0 (p) represents the reference signal transmitted over the resource element indexed by p over the first set of reference signal resources. The reference signal may be subnetwork specific and may depend on at least the subnetwork ID.

[0072] The device 130 transmits (2010') a precoded reference signal over the second set of reference signal resources on the second subband. In other words, the AP 110 receives the precoded reference signal over the second set of reference signal resources on the second subband. The second subband refers to a second set of time and frequency resources. For example, the precoded reference signal may be transmitted over the resources 320 on the  subband 330. The precoded reference signal can be transmitted over the second set of reference signal resources in each transmission cycle. In some example embodiments, the device 130 may determine a precoding factor based on a ratio of the reference received reference signal power and a power of received reference signal from the AP 110. In this case, the precoded reference signal may be determined based on the precoding factor.

[0073] By way of example, the device 130 (which may be the m-th device in the subnetwork i) may transmit the precoded reference signal over the second set of reference signal resources in each transmission cycle over the subband k. The precoded reference signal may be represented as:

[0074] where denotes the transmission power factor for the transmission by the device 130,  represents the reference received reference signal power, sm (p) represents the reference signal transmitted over the resource element indexed by p over the second set of reference signal resources. As shown above, the precoding factor can be determined based on the ratio of the configured reference received reference signal power and the received reference signal power for the reference signal from its serving AP (i.e., the AP 110) over the first subband (i.e., the subband 330) . Note that the reference signals transmitted by the devices may be subnetwork and device specific, that is, the reference signals from the different devices, whether they are in the same or different subnetworks, are independent to each other, e.g., as different pseudo-random sequences generated from different seeds.

[0075] The AP 110 and the device 130 perform (2015 and 2015') interference power measurements and weighting-and-summing operations over each of the candidate subbands for distributed subband (re) selection. The interference power measurements may be performed over the associated configured reference signal resources for the total interference power of the reference signals from all the interfering subnetworks. For example, the interference power measurements and weighting-and-summing operations may be triggered periodically. Alternatively, the interference power measurements and weighting-and-summing operations may be triggered by a specific event, for example, the subnetwork  suffering intolerable interferences. The interference power may refer to total received powers of the reference signals from all the interfering subnetworks.

[0076] The device 130 performs (2015) an interference power measurement on the first reference signal from a second subnetwork of the radio access network over the first set of reference signal resources on the first subband. For example, the device 130 may receive reference signals from the subnetwork 102 over the resources 310 on the subband 330 and perform the interference power measurement on the reference signal received from the subnetwork 102.

[0077] By way of example, the interference power measurements measured by the device 130 may be performed over the first set of reference signal resources on the candidate subband k and can be expressed as:

[0078] where m = 1, 2, ... denotes the index of the measuring device in the subnetwork i, j denotes the index of the interfering subnetwork residing on subband k,  denotes an average channel gain on subband k from the AP of subnetwork j to the device m of the subnetwork i.

[0079] The AP 110 performs (2015') an interference power measurement on a second reference signal from a second subnetwork of the radio access network over a second set of reference signal resources on the first subband. For example, the AP 110 may receive reference signals from the subnetwork 102 over the resources 320 on the subband 330 and perform the interference power measurement on the reference signal received from the subnetwork 102.

[0080] By way of example, the interference measurement by the AP (for example, the AP 110) of the subnetwork i (for example, the subnetwork 101) may be performed over the second set of reference signal resources on the candidate subband k and can be expressed as:

[0081] where n = 1, 2, ... denotes the index of the device that is transmitting the reference signal over the second set of reference signal resources in the interfering subnetwork j, j denotes the index of the interfering subnetwork residing on subband k, and denotes the average channel gain on subband k between the AP of subnetwork i and the device n of the subnetwork j. As mentioned above, the device in the subnetwork may transmit the precoded reference signal. For example, the device n may precode the reference signal with the coefficient then multiply with the transmission power factor before the reference signal transmission.

[0082] The device 130 determines (2020) a weighted interference based on the interference power measurement that is measured by the device 130. For example, the device 130 may determine a weighting factor for the interference power measurement based on a received signal power over the first set of reference signal resources. In this case, the device 130 may determine the weighted interference based on the interference power measurement measured by the device 130 and the weighting factor.

[0083] By way of example, for the device m of the subnetwork i, weighting operations can be performed for the measured interference power with the weighting factor  as below.

[0084] In some example embodiments, the weighting factor fi, m (k) may be set to the reciprocal of the reference signal received power from the serving subnetwork i (for the measuring device m) . For example, the weighting factor can be obtained from the reference signal transmissions over the first set of reference signal resources on the operating subband or other form of reference signal transmissions over any candidate subbands that are configured and well-known between the AP and the measuring devices.

[0085] The AP 110 determines (2020') a weighted interference based on the interference power measurement that is measured by the AP 110. For example, the AP 110 may determine a weighting factor for the interference power measurement based on the transmission power factor and the reference received reference signal power. In this case, the AP 110 may determine the weighted interference based on the interference power measurement measured by the AP 110and the weighting factors.

[0086] By way of example, for the AP (for example, the AP 110) of the subnetwork i (for example, the subnetwork 101) , weighting operations can be performed for the measured interference power with the weighting factor as below.

[0087] As shown above, the weighting factor fi, 0 can be determined based on the transmission power factors and the reference received reference signal power.

[0088] The device 130 may transmit (2025') feedback indicating the weighted interference measured by the device 130 to the AP 110. In other words, the AP 110 may receive the feedback indicating the weighted interference (s) from one or more devices in the subnetwork 101. The AP 110 may determine a sum of weighted interferences based on the weighted interference measured by the AP 110 and the weighted interference (s) from one or more devices in the subnetwork 101.

[0089] For example, the weighted interference obtained by the device m of the subnetwork i may be feedbacked to the AP of the subnetwork i, which adds up the weighted interference from all the relevant devices and the weighted interference from the AP itself, as follows:

[0090] where denotes a ratio of received interference power from AP of the subnetwork j and the useful signal power (from AP of its serving subnetwork i) perceived by device m over the subband k,  denotes the interference to signal power ratio perceived by the device n in subnetwork j for the interference from the AP of subnetwork i. The sum of the weighted interferences may be equal to the sum of weighted interference perceived by the devices of the subnetwork i and the weighted  interference caused by the subnetwork i to the other co-subband subnetworks, if the subnetwork AP selects and resides on the subband k. Additionally, the sum of the weighted interference may be obtained by the AP of the subnetwork i just based on the measurements made by its devices and itself with some specific operations, which means they are just local measurements thus facilitating the distributed subband allocation procedure.

[0091] The AP 110 determines (2030) a second subband for transmissions within the subnetwork 101. In this way, the system can achieve good performances and avoid the significant feedback overhead from the subnetwork APs to the BS for the inter-subnetwork interference.

[0092] For example, the AP 110 may determine the distributed subband allocation based on the obtained sum weighted interference over all the candidate subbands with the set of the candidate subband indexes. The subband selection can be applied as follows:

[0093] where k*denotes the index of the selected subband by the AP 110. The AP will 110 may inform all the devices about the newly selected subband, and the subsequent intra subnetwork transmissions will switch to the selected subband.

[0094] In some example embodiments, after the second subband is selected, the AP 110 and the device 130 may switch to the second subband. In this case, the AP 110 may transmit, to the at least one device in the first subnetwork, reference signals over the first set of reference signal resources on the second subband. For example, as shown in FIG. 4B, the AP 110 may transmit the reference signals over the resources 311 on the subband 331. The device 130 may transmit reference signals over the second set of reference resources on the second subband. For example, the deice 130 may transmit the reference signals over the resources 321 on the subband 331.

[0095] The AP 110 may perform the interference power measurement on reference signals from the second subnetwork over the second set of reference signal resources on the second subband. The device 130 may perform the interference power measurement on reference signals from the AP in second subnetwork over the first set of reference signal resources on the second subband. The AP 110 may determine another weighted interference based on the  interference power measurement measured by the AP 110. The device 130 may also determine the weighted interference based on the interference power measurement measured by the device 130 and inform the AP 110 regarding the weighted interference. The AP 110 may determine a third subband for transmissions within the first subnetwork based on the other weighted interference.

[0096] According to example embodiments of the present disclosure, it proposes precoded reference signal transmission and weighting-and-summing for aggregated reference signal received power, jointly performed by subnetwork AP and devices, to enable distributed subband allocation for inter-subnetwork interference management.
