[0003] Multiple transmission reception points (multi-TRP or MTRP) based operation has been specified in new radio (NR) to improve the link performance by exploiting the cooperation multiple point (CoMP) transmission gain where a UE is served by multiple TRPs of one or more cells. Two typical MTRP schemes have been specified, one scheme is non-coherent joint transmission (NCJT) and the other scheme is coherent joint transmission (CJT) . It is possible that a UE is served by multiple TRPs with a combined CJT and NCJT operation to exploit the advantages of both schemes. In this event, details on support of the hybrid CJT and NCJT operation should be further studied.SUMMARY

[0046] FIG. 1 illustrates an example of a wireless communications system 100 in which some embodiments of the present disclosure can be implemented. The wireless communications system 100 may include one or more network entities 102 (also referred to as network equipment (NE) ) , one or more UEs 104, a core network (CN) 106, and a packet data network 108. The wireless communications system 100 may support various radio access technologies. In some implementations, the wireless communications system 100 may be a 4G network, such as a long term evolution (LTE) network or an LTE-Advanced (LTE-A) network. In some other implementations, the wireless communications system 100 may be a 5G network, such as a new radio (NR) network. In other implementations, the wireless communications system 100 may be a combination of a 4G network and a 5G network, or other suitable radio access technology including Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) 802.11 (Wi-Fi) , IEEE 802.16 (WiMAX) , IEEE 802.20. The wireless communications system 100 may support radio access technologies beyond 5G. Additionally, the wireless communications system 100 may support technologies, such as time division multiple access (TDMA) , frequency division multiple access (FDMA) , or code division multiple access (CDMA) , etc.
[0047] The one or more network entities 102 may be dispersed throughout a geographic region to form the wireless communications system 100. One or more of the network entities 102 described herein may be or include or may be referred to as a network node, a base station, a network element, a radio access network (RAN) , a base transceiver station, an access point, a NodeB, an eNodeB (eNB) , a next-generation NodeB (gNB) , or other suitable terminology. A network entity 102 and a UE 104 may communicate via a communication link 110, which may be a wireless or wired connection. For example, a network entity 102 and a UE 104 may perform wireless communication (e.g., receive signaling, transmit signaling) over a Uu interface.
[0048] A network entity 102 may provide a geographic coverage area 112 for which the network entity 102 may support services (e.g., voice, video, packet data, message, broadcast, etc. ) for one or more UEs 104 within the geographic coverage area 112. For example, a network entity 102 and a UE 104 may support wireless communication of signals related to services (e.g., voice, video, packet data, messaging, broadcast, etc. ) according to one or multiple radio access technologies. In some implementations, a network entity 102 may be moveable, for example, a satellite associated with a non-terrestrial network. In some implementations, different geographic coverage areas 112 associated with the same or different radio access technologies may overlap, but the different geographic coverage areas 112 may be associated with different network entities 102. Information and signals described herein may be represented using any of a variety of different technologies and techniques. For example, data, instructions, commands, information, signals, bits, symbols, and chips that may be referenced throughout the description may be represented by voltages, currents, electromagnetic waves, magnetic fields or particles, optical fields or particles, or any combination thereof.
[0049] The one or more UEs 104 may be dispersed throughout a geographic region of the wireless communications system 100. A UE 104 may include or may be referred to as a mobile device, a wireless device, a remote device, a remote unit, a handheld device, or a subscriber device, or some other suitable terminology. In some implementations, the UE 104 may be referred to as a unit, a station, a terminal, or a client, among other examples. Additionally, or alternatively, the UE 104 may be referred to as an Internet-of-Things (IoT) device, an Internet-of-Everything (IoE) device, or machine-type communication (MTC) device, among other examples. In some implementations, a UE 104 may be stationary in the wireless communications system 100. In some other implementations, a UE 104 may be mobile in the wireless communications system 100.
[0050] The one or more UEs 104 may be devices in different forms or having different capabilities. Some examples of UEs 104 are illustrated in FIG. 1. A UE 104 may be capable of communicating with various types of devices, such as the network entities 102, other UEs 104, or network equipment (e.g., the CN 106, the packet data network 108, a relay device, an integrated access and backhaul (IAB) node, or another network equipment) , as shown in FIG. 1. Additionally, or alternatively, a UE 104 may support communication with other network entities 102 or UEs 104, which may act as relays in the wireless communications system 100.
[0051] A UE 104 may also be able to support wireless communication directly with other UEs 104 over a communication link 114. For example, a UE 104 may support wireless communication directly with another UE 104 over a device-to-device (D2D) communication link. In some implementations, such as vehicle-to-vehicle (V2V) deployments, vehicle-to-everything (V2X) deployments, or cellular-V2X deployments, the communication link 114 may be referred to as a sidelink (SL) . For example, a UE 104 may support wireless communication directly with another UE 104 over a PC5 interface.
[0052] A network entity 102 may support communications with the CN 106, or with another network entity 102, or both. For example, a network entity 102 may interface with the CN 106 through one or more backhaul links 116 (e.g., via an S1, N2, N3, or another network interface) . The network entities 102 may communicate with each other over the backhaul links 116 (e.g., via an X2, Xn, or another network interface) . In some implementations, the network entities 102 may communicate with each other directly (e.g., between the network entities 102) . In some other implementations, the network entities 102 may communicate with each other or indirectly (e.g., via the CN 106) . In some implementations, one or more network entities 102 may include subcomponents, such as an access network entity, which may be an example of an access node controller (ANC) . An ANC may communicate with the one or more UEs 104 through one or more other access network transmission entities, which may be referred to as a radio heads, smart radio heads, or transmission-reception points (TRPs) .
[0053] In some implementations, a network entity 102 may be configured in a disaggregated architecture, which may be configured to utilize a protocol stack physically or logically distributed among two or more network entities 102, such as an integrated access backhaul (IAB) network, an open RAN (O-RAN) (e.g., a network configuration sponsored by the O-RAN Alliance) , or a virtualized RAN (vRAN) (e.g., a cloud RAN (C-RAN) ) . For example, a network entity 102 may include one or more of a central unit (CU) , a distributed unit (DU) , a radio unit (RU) , a RAN Intelligent Controller (RIC) (e.g., a Near-Real Time RIC (Near-RT RIC) , a Non-Real Time RIC (Non-RT RIC) ) , a Service Management and Orchestration (SMO) system, or any combination thereof.
[0054] An RU may also be referred to as a radio head, a smart radio head, a remote radio head (RRH) , a remote radio unit (RRU) , or a transmission reception point (TRP) . One or more components of the network entities 102 in a disaggregated RAN architecture may be co-located, or one or more components of the network entities 102 may be located in distributed locations (e.g., separate physical locations) . In some implementations, one or more network entities 102 of a disaggregated RAN architecture may be implemented as virtual units (e.g., a virtual CU (VCU) , a virtual DU (VDU) , a virtual RU (VRU) ) .
[0055] Split of functionality between a CU, a DU, and an RU may be flexible and may support different functionalities depending upon which functions (e.g., network layer functions, protocol layer functions, baseband functions, radio frequency functions, and any combinations thereof) are performed at a CU, a DU, or an RU. For example, a functional split of a protocol stack may be employed between a CU and a DU such that the CU may support one or more layers of the protocol stack and the DU may support one or more different layers of the protocol stack. In some implementations, the CU may host upper protocol layer (e.g., a layer 3 (L3) , a layer 2 (L2) ) functionality and signaling (e.g., Radio Resource Control (RRC) , service data adaption protocol (SDAP) , Packet Data Convergence Protocol (PDCP) ) . The CU may be connected to one or more DUs or RUs, and the one or more DUs or RUs may host lower protocol layers, such as a layer 1 (L1) (e.g., physical (PHY) layer) or an L2 (e.g., radio link control (RLC) layer, medium access control (MAC) layer) functionality and signaling, and may each be at least partially controlled by the CU.
[0056] Additionally, or alternatively, a functional split of the protocol stack may be employed between a DU and an RU such that the DU may support one or more layers of the protocol stack and the RU may support one or more different layers of the protocol stack. The DU may support one or multiple different cells (e.g., via one or more RUs) . In some implementations, a functional split between a CU and a DU, or between a DU and an RU may be within a protocol layer (e.g., some functions for a protocol layer may be performed by one of a CU, a DU, or an RU, while other functions of the protocol layer are performed by a different one of the CU, the DU, or the RU) .
[0057] A CU may be functionally split further into CU control plane (CU-CP) and CU user plane (CU-UP) functions. A CU may be connected to one or more DUs via a midhaul communication link (e.g., F1, F1-C, F1-U) , and a DU may be connected to one or more RUs via a fronthaul communication link (e.g., open fronthaul (FH) interface) . In some implementations, a midhaul communication link or a fronthaul communication link may be implemented in accordance with an interface (e.g., a channel) between layers of a protocol stack supported by respective network entities 102 that are in communication via such communication links.
[0058] The CN 106 may support user authentication, access authorization, tracking, connectivity, and other access, routing, or mobility functions. The CN 106 may be an evolved packet core (EPC) , or a 5G core (5GC) , which may include a control plane entity that manages access and mobility (e.g., a mobility management entity (MME) , an access and mobility management functions (AMF) ) and a user plane entity that routes packets or interconnects to external networks (e.g., a serving gateway (S-GW) , a Packet Data Network (PDN) gateway (P-GW) , or a user plane function (UPF) ) . In some implementations, the control plane entity may manage non-access stratum (NAS) functions, such as mobility, authentication, and bearer management (e.g., data bearers, signal bearers, etc. ) for the one or more UEs 104 served by the one or more network entities 102 associated with the CN 106.
[0059] The CN 106 may communicate with the packet data network 108 over one or more backhaul links 116 (e.g., via an S1, N2, N3, or another network interface) . The packet data network 108 may include an application server 118. In some implementations, one or more UEs 104 may communicate with the application server 118. A UE 104 may establish a session (e.g., a protocol data unit (PDU) session, or the like) with the CN 106 via a network entity 102. The CN 106 may route traffic (e.g., control information, data, and the like) between the UE 104 and the application server 118 using the established session (e.g., the established PDU session) . The PDU session may be an example of a logical connection between the UE 104 and the CN 106 (e.g., one or more network functions of the CN 106) .
[0060] In the wireless communications system 100, the network entities 102 and the UEs 104 may use resources of the wireless communications system 100 (e.g., time resources (e.g., symbols, slots, subframes, frames, or the like) or frequency resources (e.g., subcarriers, carriers) ) to perform various operations (e.g., wireless communications) . In some implementations, the network entities 102 and the UEs 104 may support different resource structures. For example, the network entities 102 and the UEs 104 may support different frame structures. In some implementations, such as in 4G, the network entities 102 and the UEs 104 may support a single frame structure. In some other implementations, such as in 5G and among other suitable radio access technologies, the network entities 102 and the UEs 104 may support various frame structures (i.e., multiple frame structures) . The network entities 102 and the UEs 104 may support various frame structures based on one or more numerologies.
[0061] One or more numerologies may be supported in the wireless communications system 100, and a numerology may include a subcarrier spacing and a cyclic prefix. A first numerology (e.g., μ=0) may be associated with a first subcarrier spacing (e.g., 15 kHz) and a normal cyclic prefix. In some implementations, the first numerology (e.g., μ=0) associated with the first subcarrier spacing (e.g., 15 kHz) may utilize one slot per subframe. A second numerology (e.g., μ=1) may be associated with a second subcarrier spacing (e.g., 30 kHz) and a normal cyclic prefix. A third numerology (e.g., μ=2) may be associated with a third subcarrier spacing (e.g., 60 kHz) and a normal cyclic prefix or an extended cyclic prefix. A fourth numerology (e.g., μ=3) may be associated with a fourth subcarrier spacing (e.g., 120 kHz) and a normal cyclic prefix. A fifth numerology (e.g., μ=4) may be associated with a fifth subcarrier spacing (e.g., 240 kHz) and a normal cyclic prefix.
[0062] A time interval of a resource (e.g., a communication resource) may be organized according to frames (also referred to as radio frames) . Each frame may have a duration, for example, a 10 millisecond (ms) duration. In some implementations, each frame may include multiple subframes. For example, each frame may include 10 subframes, and each subframe may have a duration, for example, a 1 ms duration. In some implementations, each frame may have the same duration. In some implementations, each subframe of a frame may have the same duration.
[0063] Additionally or alternatively, a time interval of a resource (e.g., a communication resource) may be organized according to slots. For example, a subframe may include a number (e.g., quantity) of slots. The number of slots in each subframe may also depend on the one or more numerologies supported in the wireless communications system 100. For instance, the first, second, third, fourth, and fifth numerologies (i.e., μ=0, μ=1, μ=2, μ=3, μ=4) associated with respective subcarrier spacings of 15 kHz, 30 kHz, 60 kHz, 120 kHz, and 240 kHz may utilize a single slot per subframe, two slots per subframe, four slots per subframe, eight slots per subframe, and 16 slots per subframe, respectively. Each slot may include a number (e.g., quantity) of symbols (e.g., orthogonal frequency-division multiplexing (OFDM) symbols) . In some implementations, the number (e.g., quantity) of slots for a subframe may depend on a numerology. For a normal cyclic prefix, a slot may include 14 symbols. For an extended cyclic prefix (e.g., applicable for 60 kHz subcarrier spacing) , a slot may include 12 symbols. The relationship between the number of symbols per slot, the number of slots per subframe, and the number of slots per frame for a normal cyclic prefix and an extended cyclic prefix may depend on a numerology. It should be understood that reference to a first numerology (e.g., μ=0) associated with a first subcarrier spacing (e.g., 15 kHz) may be used interchangeably between subframes and slots.
[0064] In the wireless communications system 100, an electromagnetic (EM) spectrum may be split, based on frequency or wavelength, into various classes, frequency bands, frequency channels, etc. By way of example, the wireless communications system 100 may support one or multiple operating frequency bands, such as frequency range designations FR1 (410 MHz –7.125 GHz) , FR2 (24.25 GHz –52.6 GHz) , FR3 (7.125 GHz –24.25 GHz) , FR4 (52.6 GHz –114.25 GHz) , FR4a or FR4-1 (52.6 GHz –71 GHz) , and FR5 (114.25 GHz –300 GHz) . In some implementations, the network entities 102 and the UEs 104 may perform wireless communications over one or more of the operating frequency bands. In some implementations, FR1 may be used by the network entities 102 and the UEs 104, among other equipment or devices for cellular communications traffic (e.g., control information, data) . In some implementations, FR2 may be used by the network entities 102 and the UEs 104, among other equipment or devices for short-range, high data rate capabilities.
[0065] FR1 may be associated with one or multiple numerologies (e.g., at least three numerologies) . For example, FR1 may be associated with a first numerology (e.g., μ=0) , which includes 15 kHz subcarrier spacing; a second numerology (e.g., μ=1) , which includes 30 kHz subcarrier spacing; and a third numerology (e.g., μ=2) , which includes 60 kHz subcarrier spacing. FR2 may be associated with one or multiple numerologies (e.g., at least 2 numerologies) . For example, FR2 may be associated with a third numerology (e.g., μ=2) , which includes 60 kHz subcarrier spacing; and a fourth numerology (e.g., μ=3) , which includes 120 kHz subcarrier spacing.
[0066] Two typical MTRP schemes have been specified before NR Release 19, one scheme is NCJT and the other scheme is CJT. For the case that different TRPs are not well synchronized with each other, NCJT scheme can be adopted to improve the throughput of a UE by transmitting different physical downlink shared channel (PDSCH) layers from different TRPs. When a group of TRPs are well synchronized and calibrated with each other, CJT can be adopted to improve the link performance by transmitting the same PDSCH layer (s) from multiple TRPs. NCJT can be used to improve the UE throughput when the interference and noise ratio (SINR) is good enough, while the CJT scheme can improve the link capacity and reliability by increasing the received SINR. Coverage can also be improved by CJT scheme.
[0067] Distributed multi-input multi-output (MIMO) is an evolution of MIMO towards 6G. A distributed MIMO network assumes a cellular structure, where a cell is served by one BS and each BS is connected with a large number of antenna elements, of which individual elements are spatially distributed in the cell. For example, a UE may be served by several TRPs belong to a same cell, where each TRP may be equipped with a larger scaled antenna array for data transmission for the respective TRP. Some TRPs are well synchronized but some TRPs are not well synchronized. The well synchronized TRPs can be used for CJT while non-synchronized TRPs can be used for NCJT. It will be possible that a UE is served by multiple TRPs with a combined CJT and NCJT operation to exploit the advantages of both schemes to improve the link and system performance. Thus, a solution for support the combined CJT and NCJT operation should be provided.
[0068] Embodiments of the present disclosure provide a solution for support the combined CJT and NCJT operation. In the solution, a UE may receive a CSI report configuration which associated with a set of CSI-RS resources for a set of TRPs. The UE may determine a plurality of TRP groups based on the CSI report configuration, and two or more TRPs in a same TRP groups can perform CJT. In addition, a CSI report indicating the plurality of TRP groups may be provided to a BS, and the CSI report may assist the BS to determine TRPs for hybrid coherent and non-coherent transmission. Principles and implementations of the present disclosure will be described in detail below with reference to the figures.
[0069] In the present disclosure, a term “hybrid coherent and non-coherent transmission” may be used, and the term can be interchangeably used with one of: hybrid joint transmission (HJT) , combined CJT and NCJT, hybrid CJT and NCJT, or the like, the present disclosure does not limit for this aspect.
[0070] FIG. 2 illustrates an example schematic of distributed MIMO deployment 250. As shown in FIG. 2, the UE 104 may be served by one or more of multiple TRPs 200-211. Each of the TRPs 200-211 may be equipped with an antenna array comprising multiple antennas.
[0071] In the distributed MIMO deployment 250, the UE 104 may connect to a serving BS such as the TRP 200, and the serving BS (i.e. the TRP 200) has 11 TRPs (i.e. TRPs 201-211) connected to the BS (i.e. the TRP 200) . With reference to FIG. 1, the BS (i.e. the TRP 200) may be one network entity 102.
[0072] It is to be understood that the numbers of TRPs or UEs shown in FIG. 2 are only for the purpose of illustration only, in an actual scenario, the deployment 250 may include any suitable numbers of devices. For example, a number of TRPs that belong to a same BS may be another value. It is understood that when the number of TRPs belong to a same BS is larger, the offset between different TRPs may be different for the UE 104.
[0073] In the present disclosure, a CSI report may also be referred to as a CSI feedback, a beam report, a report for calibration, or a report, the present disclosure does not limit for this aspect. In the present disclosure, a plurality of CSI-RS resources may be interchangeably with CSI-RS resources, a plurality of CSI-RS resource sets, non-zero power (NZP) CSI-RS resources, a set of NZP CSI-RS resources, NZP CSI-RS resource set (s) , or the like, the present disclosure does not limit for this aspect. In some cases, the plurality of CSI-RS resources may be configured as channel measurement resource (CMR) for the UE in the present disclosure.
[0074] FIG. 3 illustrates a signalling chart illustrating communication process 300 in accordance with some example embodiments of the present disclosure. The process 300 may involve a UE 104 and a BS 200 as illustrated in FIG. 2. It would be appreciated that the process 300 may be applied to other communication scenarios, which will not be described in detail.
[0075] In the process 300, the BS 200 transmits, and the UE 104 receives, a CSI report configuration at 310. In some implementations, the UE 104 may be provided or configured with a CSI report configuration by RRC parameter CSI-ReportConfig, which is associated with a set of CSI-RS resources for a set of TPRs as CMR.
[0076] In some implementations, the UE 104 may be configured with a set of CSI-RS resources, which may include NTRP CSI-RS resources, or multiple CSI-RS resource sets (e.g., NTRP CSI-RS resource sets) , for inter-TRP offset estimation, such as one or more of: inter-TRP frequency offset (FO) , inter-TRP delay offset (DO) , or inter-TRP phase offset (PO) . For example, the NTRP CSI-RS resources or CSI-RS resource sets are configured for inter-TRP offset estimation and report. Each of the NTRP CSI-RS resources or NTRP CSI-RS resource sets may correspond to one TRP. For example, NTRP=12, and the NTRP CSI-RS resources are corresponding to TRPs 200-211 respectively.
[0077] In some implementations, the CSI report configuration which is associated with the set of CSI-RS resources may indicate to the UE 104 to perform CJT group selection. In some implementations, the CSI report configuration may further indicate to the UE 104 to report at least one offset (such as one or more of FO, DO, or PO) between TRPs in a same TRP group. In some implementations, the CSI report configuration may further indicate to the UE 104 to report at least one offset (such as DO) between reference TRPs of different TRP groups.
[0078] In the process 300, the UE 104 determines a plurality of TRP groups at 320. Specifically, the UE 104 may perform the CJT group selection based on the CSI report configuration, to determine the plurality of TRP groups.
[0079] In some implementations, the UE 104 may receive the set of CSI-RS resources, and determine the plurality of TRP groups based on measurement results of the set of CSI-RS resources.
[0080] In the present disclosure, a TRP group may include only one TRP or may include more than one TRP, and a TRP group may also be called as a CJT group. In some implementations, a TRP may be grouped into only one TRP group, that is, TRPs in different TRP groups are different.
[0081] In some implementations, a number of the plurality of TRP groups may be represented as NCJT, which may be configured by the BS 200 or be determined by the UE 104. Specifically, the UE 104 may determine NCJT TRP groups, each of the NCJT TRP groups may include at least one TRP, and the at least one TRP in a same TRP group can be used for CJT operation.
[0082] In some instances, for a specific TRP group, such as TRP group m, it may include two or more TRPs, and the two or more TRPs in the TRP group m can be used for CJT operation. For example, two or more CSI-RS resources (that are in the NTRP CSI-RS resources) corresponding to the two or more TRPs in the TRP group m can be used for CJT operation. In some examples, an inter-TRP offset of any two TRPs in the specific TRP group (such as TRP group m) or the inter-TRP offset between the TRPs and a reference TRP is less than a threshold. For example, the specific TRP group may be any one of the NCJT TRP groups. In some examples, an inter-TRP FO, an inter-TRP DO, and / or an inter-TRP PO of TRPs within a same TRP group may be lower than the threshold, where the threshold may be specified or configured by the BS 200. For the case that only one TRP is grouped in a TRP group, it means the FO, DO or PO between this TRP and the other TRPs is larger than a threshold.
[0083] In the process 300, the UE 104 transmits, and the BS 200 receive, a CSI report at 330, and the CSI report may indicate the plurality of TRP groups, i.e., NCJT TRP groups.
[0084] In some example embodiments, the CSI report may indicate at least one offset (such as one or more of: frequency offset, delay offset, or phase offset) among TRPs within a same TRP group. In some examples, a reference TRP associated with the at least one offset may be further indicated. In some other examples, the reference TRP may be a default one (such as the first TRP in the TRP group) , and there is no need to further indicate which is the reference TRP, and thus the signalling overhead can be reduced. For example, the TRPs in a same TRP group may be ordered with the first TRP being the reference TRP.
[0085] In some implementations, the BS 200 may further indicate to the UE 104 to report at least one offset (such as a delay offset) between reference TRPs of different TRP groups. In some example embodiments, the CSI report may indicate at least one offset among reference TRPs of different TRP groups. For example, there may be a first TRP group including a first reference TRP and a second TRP group including a second reference TRP, in this case, at least one offset (such as one or more of: FO, DO, or PO) between the second reference TRP and the first reference TRP can be further included. In this way, the UE 104 can identify the potential TRP groups which can be used for NCJT operation. It is understood that the timing difference between received signals from NCJT TRPs should be within a CP when cyclic prefix orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (CP-OFDM) waveform is adopted.
[0086] In addition or alternatively, the BS 200 may perform a calibration for each TRP group. For example, for a specific TRP group, the CSI report may include the inter-TRP FO, the inter-TRP DO, and / or inter-TRP PO within the specific TRP group, and thus the BS 200 may further perform frequency calibration, delay calibration, and / or phase calibration accordingly. In some implementations, TRPs in a same TRP group can be used for CJT operation after the calibration.
[0087] In addition or alternatively, the BS 200 may determine multiple TRPs for hybrid joint transmission at 340, based on the CSI report from the UE 104. In some examples, the BS 200 may determine a first TRP group and a second TRP group, where the TRPs in the first TRP group can be used for CJT operation, the TRPs in the second TRP group can be used for CJT operation, and TRPs from the first TRP group and the second TRP group can be used for NCJT operation. For example, a first DL data layer (s) is transmitted by the first TRP group in a CJT manner, and a second DL data layer (s) is transmitted by the second TRP group in a CJT manner, where the first DL data layer (s) is different from the second DL data layer (s) and are transmitted in an NCJT manner.
[0088] In some example embodiments, the value of NCJT may be configured by the BS 200, for example NCJT =5. In some examples, the CSI report configuration may include the value of NCJT. In some other examples, the value of NCJT may be provided by the BS 200 via another message, such as radio resource control (RRC) signalling, a medium access control (MAC) control element (CE) , or downlink control information (DCI) . In some examples, the CSI report may indicate, for each group, a strongest TRP in the group and an offset of each TRP (different from the strongest TRP) which is less than a threshold. For example, the strongest TRP is taken as the reference TRP in the group and may be ordered as the first one in the group.
[0089] With reference to FIG. 2, the NCJT =5 TRP groups may include Group 1 to Group 5. Group 1 includes TRP 201, TRP 203, and TRP 205. Group 2 includes TRP 202, TRP 204, and TRP 206. Group 3 includes TRP 207, TRP 208, TRP 209, and TRP 210. Group 4 includes TRP 200. Group 5 includes TRP 211.
[0090] FIG. 4 illustrates an example schematic of measured offsets for the set of TRPs 400. As shown in FIG. 4, the TRPs 200-211 (with indexes #0 -#11) can be grouped into 5 groups 410-450. For example, a TRP group may include at least one TRP which is represented by at least one index, such as at least one CSI-RS resource indicator (CRI) .
[0091] In some cases, a TRP group may include more than one TRP, and CJT may be used to improve the received SNR at a receiver side (such as the UE 104) , for example, the more than one TRP may be well synchronized. In some cases, the throughput and the coverage can be improved by transmitting a same data layer from the more than one TRP in the same TRP group. In some embodiments, a TRP group may also be called as a CJT group, and the present disclosure does not limit for this aspect.
[0092] In some examples, the CSI report, which is transmitted from the UE 104 to the BS 200, may include following information about NCJT TRP groups, i.e., 5 CJT groups.
[0093] In some examples, the CSI report may indicate that CJT group 1 = {CRI#1, CRI#3, CRI#5} , where CRI#1 (i.e. TRP 201) has the strongest L1-RSRP, and the offset values of CRI#3 (i.e. TRP 203) and CRI#5 (i.e. TRP 205) are less than the threshold. In some examples, the CSI report may further indicate one or more of the following: frequency offset for frequency calibration {FO1, 3, FO1, 5} ; delay offset for timing calibration {DO1, 3, DO1, 5} ; or phase offset for reciprocity calibration {PO1, 3, PO1, 5} . CRI is CSI resource indicator to represent a TRP.
[0094] In some examples, the CSI report may indicate that CJT group 2 = {CRI#2, CRI#4, CRI#6} , where CRI#2 (i.e. TRP 202) has the strongest L1-RSRP in the remaining CSI resources, and the offset values of CRI#4 (i.e. TRP 204) and CRI#6 (i.e. TRP 206) are less than the threshold. In some examples, the CSI report may further indicate one or more of the following: frequency offset for frequency calibration {FO2, 4, FO2, 6} ; delay offset for timing calibration {DO2, 4, DO2, 6} ; or phase offset for reciprocity calibration {PO2, 4, PO2, 6} .
[0095] In some examples, the CSI report may indicate that CJT group 3 = {CRI#7, CRI#8, CRI#9, CRI#10} , where CRI#7 (i.e. TRP 207) has the strongest L1-RSRP in the remaining CSI resources, and the offset values of CRI#8 (i.e. TRP 208) , CRI#9 (i.e. TRP 209) and CRI#10 (i.e. TRP 210) are less than the threshold. In some examples, the CSI report may further indicate one or more of the following: frequency offset for frequency calibration {FO7, 8 , FO7, 9 , FO7, 10 } ; delay offset for timing calibration {DO7, 8 , DO7, 9 , DO7, 10 } ; or phase offset for reciprocity calibration {PO7, 8, PO7, 9, PO7, 10} .
[0096] In some examples, the CSI report may indicate that CJT group 4 = {CRI#0} , where CRI#0 (i.e. TRP 200) has the strongest L1-RSRP. For example, TRP 200 can be used for single-TRP based transmission and TRP 200 may have the best L1-RSRP among the TRPs which don’ t belong to any of CJT groups 1-3.
[0097] In some examples, the CSI report may indicate that CJT group 5 = {CRI#11} , where CRI#11 (i.e. TRP 211) has the strongest L1-RSRP. For example, TRP 211 can be used for single-TRP based transmission and TRP 211 may have the best L1-RSRP among the TRPs which don’ t belong to any of CJT groups 1-3.
[0098] Optionally, the CSI report may further include delay offsets between TRP 201, TRP 202, TRP 207, TRP 200, and TRP 211, such as {DO1, 2, DO1, 7, DO1, 0, DO1, 11} , which are the delay offsets among reference TRPs in different CJT groups.
[0099] In some other example embodiments, the value of NCJT may be determined by the UE 104. In some examples, the CSI report, which is transmitted from the UE 104 to the BS 200, may include following information about NCJT TRP groups.
[0100] In some examples, the CSI report may indicate that CJT group 1 = {CRI#1, CRI#3, CRI#5} . In some examples, the CSI report may further indicate that CRI#1 (i.e. TRP 201) is a reference TRP in the CJT group 1.
[0101] In some examples, the CSI report may indicate that CJT group 2 = {CRI#2, CRI#4, CRI#6} . In some examples, the CSI report may further indicate that CRI#2 (i.e. TRP 202) is a reference TRP in the CJT group 2.
[0102] In some examples, the CSI report may indicate that CJT group 3 = {CRI#7, CRI#8, CRI#9, CRI#10} . In some examples, the CSI report may further indicate that CRI#7 (i.e. TRP 207) is a reference TRP in the CJT group 3.
[0103] Optionally, the CSI report may further include delay offsets between TRP 201, TRP 202, and TRP 207, such as {DO1, 2, DO1, 7} , which are the delay offsets among reference TRPs in different CJT groups.
[0104] Additionally, the BS 200 may determine multiple TRPs for hybrid joint transmission, for example, the multiple TRPs may include TRP 201, TRP 202, TRP 203, and TRP 204.
[0105] For TRPs in a same group that are well synchronized with each other, CJT may be adopted so as to improve the throughput and coverage by transmitting a same data layer. For TRPs in different groups that are not synchronized with each other, NCJT may be adopted so as to improve the link throughput by transmitting different data layers.
[0106] For example, TRP 201&TRP 203, and TRP 202&TRP 204 are used for CJT, while NCJT can be performed between TRP 201&TRP 203 and TRP 202&TRP 204. In other words, a PDSCH layer can be transmitted by TRP 201&TRP 203 or TRP 202&TRP 204, while different PDSCH layers are transmitted by TRP 201&TRP 203 and TRP 202&TRP 204.
[0107] According to embodiments with reference to FIGS. 2-4, a solution of UE assisted CJT group selection is provided. Specifically, the UE 104 can provide a CSI report including a plurality of TRP groups, and the CSI report may be used by the BS 200 to determine the multiple TRPs for hybrid joint transmission.
[0108] The basic function of group based beam report was specified in NR release 15 (R15) . A UE can be configured with a CSI-RS resource set for group based beam report, and the UE can report a pair of CRIs, where the Tx beams used for the transmission of the reported CSI-RS resources corresponding to the two reported CRIs can be simultaneously received by the UE. Group based beam report is enhanced in release 17 (R17) to support two TRP based multi-TRP DL operation. In this case, a UE can be configured with a beam report associated with two CSI-RS resource sets for beam measurement, where each CSI-RS resource set consists of beams transmitted by one TRP, the UE is required to report multiple beam pairs in the beam report. The beams in a beam pair should be selected from different CSI-RS resource sets and can be simultaneously received by the UE.
[0109] Group based beam report is supported in 5G NR system to support multi-TRP operation in FR2. For example, a UE may be configured to report multiple beam pairs, where each pair of beams can be simultaneously received by the UE and different beams corresponds to different TRPs. For distributed MIMO, the UE may be required to receive more than two beams for simultaneous reception.
[0110] FIG. 5 illustrates an example schematic of beams for simultaneous reception 500 in accordance with some example embodiments of the present disclosure. The UE 104 may have a Rx beam 1 and a Rx beam 2 which can be used simultaneously, as shown in FIG. 5, the UE 104 can receive beams simultaneously from TRP 201, TRP 203, TRP 202, and TRP 204 respectively.
[0111] FIG. 6 illustrates a signalling chart illustrating communication process 600 in accordance with some example embodiments of the present disclosure. The process 600 may involve a UE 104 and a BS 200, such as that illustrated in FIG. 2. It would be appreciated that the process 600 may be applied to other communication scenarios, which will not be described in detail.
[0112] In the process 600, the BS 200 transmits, and the UE 104 receives, a beam report configuration at 610. In some implementations, the beam report configuration may be a CSI report configuration for group based beam report, which is associated with a plurality of beam sets.
[0113] In some implementations, the UE 104 may be configured with a plurality of beam sets, such as N beam sets. The plurality of beam sets may correspond to a plurality of TRPs. For example, a beam set may include one or multiple beams which can be transmitted by a same TRP, that is a TRP corresponding to the beam set. In some examples, a beam, e.g. in any beam set, may be represented by a downlink reference signal. For example, the downlink reference signal may be a NZP CSI-RS resource or a synchronization signal block (SSB) which is specified and used in 5G NR. For example, an index of a beam may be represented as a CRI.
[0114] In some implementations, the beam report configuration may indicate to the UE 104 to report a plurality of beam combinations, each beam combination may include N beams from N beam sets respectively, and N beams in a same beam combination can be received by the UE 104 simultaneously.
[0115] Optionally, the beam report configuration may further indicate to the UE 104 to report measured RSRP along with each reported beam.
[0116] In the process 600, the UE 104 determines the plurality of beam combinations at 620. Specifically, the UE 104 may perform beam selection based on the beam report configuration, to determine the plurality of beam combinations. In addition, the UE 104 transmits, and the BS 200 receives, a beam report which indicates the plurality of beam combinations at 630.
[0117] In some implementations, a number of the plurality of beam combination may be represented as M, which may be pre-defined or may be configured by the BS 200. In some examples, the beam report configuration may include a value of M.
[0118] For instance, if M=2, the beam report should include 2 beam combinations, each beam combination includes N beams selected from N beam sets respectively. The N beams in a same beam combination can be simultaneously received by the UE 104. For example, the N beams in a same beam combination may correspond to N TRPs respectively.
[0119] In case the beam report configuration may further indicate to the UE 104 to report measured RSRP along with each reported beam, the beam report may further include measured RSRP along with each reported beam. In some examples, a differential manner may be used. For example, each beam group may include a reference beam, and a difference of RSRPs between another beam in the same beam group and the reference beam may be included in the beam report. For another example, a reference beam may be used for all beam groups, and a difference of RSRPs between another beam in any beam group and the reference beam may be included in the beam report.
[0120] With reference to FIG. 7, which illustrates an example schematic of group based beam report 700 in accordance with some example embodiments of the present disclosure. The UE 104 may be configured with N=4 beam sets for 4 TRPs respectively.
[0121] A first beam set associated with TRP 201 includes 4 beams which are represented as CRI#0, CRI#1, CRI#2, and CRI#3. A second beam set associated with TRP 202 includes 4 beams which are represented as CRI#4, CRI#5, CRI#6, and CRI#7. A third beam set associated with TRP 203 includes 4 beams which are represented as CRI#8, CRI#9, CRI#10, and CRI#11. A fourth beam set associated with TRP 204 includes 4 beams which are represented as CRI#12, CRI#13, CRI#14, and CRI#15.
[0122] The beam report may include M beam combinations, for instance, one beam combination with reference to FIG. 7 may include 4 beams, which may be represented as CRI#2, CRI#6, CRI#9, and CRI#13, for multi-TRP joint transmission. The 4 beams {CRI#2, CRI#6, CRI#9, CRI#13} can be received by the UE 104 simultaneously.
[0123] It is understood that a number of Rx beams at the UE 104 may be limited, and different Rx beams may be based on a same panel or different panels. For example, two different Rx beams of a same panel cannot be used simultaneously, and two different Rx beams of two different panels can be used simultaneously. In some implementations, the beams can be grouped based on the Rx beams at the UE 104.
[0124] In some implementations, the UE 104 may determine a plurality of beam groups, for example, each beam group may include a plurality of beams which can be received by a same Rx beam of the UE 104. In some examples, the plurality of beam groups may correspond to a plurality of Rx beams of the UE 104. For example, a number of the plurality of beam groups may equal to a number of the plurality of Rx beams of the UE 104. For example, a number of beams in each beam group may be configured by the BS 200 or may be determined by the UE 104, according to the UE capability.
[0125] In some implementations, the UE 104 may determine a plurality of beam combinations based on the plurality of beam groups. In some examples, the beam report may indicate the plurality of beam groups, and each beam combination may be represented as a bitmap with a plurality of bits corresponding to the plurality of beam groups. For example, two or more bits in the bitmap may be a first value (such as “1” ) , indicating that the beams in the corresponding beam groups can be received by the UE 104 simultaneously.
[0126] Examples may be provided with reference to FIG. 7. The UE 104 may be configured with a beam report configuration which is associated with beam sets for beam measurement and beam report. For example, the beam sets may include 4 sets of CSI-RS resources, and each set of CSI-RS resources includes 4 CSI-RS resources corresponding to one TRP. For example, CSI-RS resources 0~3 (represented by CRI#0 ~ CRI#3) may be transmitted by TRP 201, CSI-RS resources 4~7 (represented by CRI#4 ~ CRI#7) may be transmitted by TRP 202, CSI-RS resources 8~11 (represented by CRI#8 ~ CRI#11) may be transmitted by TRP 203, and CSI-RS resources 12~15 (represented by CRI#12 ~ CRI#15) may be transmitted by TRP 204.
[0127] The beam report configuration may further indicate to the UE 104 to report N beam groups, where beams in a same beam group are received by a same Rx beam at the UE 104. The beam report configuration may further indicate to the UE 104 to report beam combinations that can be received simultaneously.
[0128] The UE 104 may be equipped with two panels which can be simultaneously used for downlink reception. For example, Rx beam 1 and Rx beam 2 are formed by one panel, and Rx beam 3 and Rx beam 4 are formed by the other panel. The UE 104 may be indicated to report 4 beam groups, and accordingly the UE 104 may transmit the beam group which may include following information, e.g., about 4 beam groups, and / or beam combinations.
[0129] In some examples, the beam report may indicate that a first beam group (beam group 1) includes CRI#8, CRI#9, CRI#10, CRI#11, CRI#2, CRI#3; a second beam group (beam group 2) includes CRI#0, CRI#1, CRI#2, CRI#3, CRI#8, CRI#9; a third beam group (beam group 3) includes CRI#4, CRI#5, CRI#6, CRI#7, CRI#12, CRI#13; and a fourth beam group (beam group 4) includes CRI#12, CRI#13, CRI#14, CRI#15, CRI#6, CRI#7. In some examples, the beam report may further indicate that a first simultaneous Rx beam group combination includes a first beam group and a third beam group, a second simultaneous Rx beam group combination includes a first beam group and a fourth beam group, a third simultaneous Rx beam group combination includes a second beam group and a third beam group, and a fourth simultaneous Rx beam group combination includes a second beam group and a fourth beam group.
[0130] For instance, the first simultaneous Rx beam group combination indicates that any beam selected from the first beam group and any beam selected from the third beam group can be simultaneously received by the UE 104. Similarly, the second simultaneous Rx beam group combination indicates that any beam selected from the first beam group and any beam selected from the fourth beam group can be simultaneously received by the UE 104. The third simultaneous Rx beam group combination indicates that any beam selected from the second beam group and any beam selected from the third beam group can be simultaneously received by the UE 104. The fourth simultaneous Rx beam group combination indicates that any beam selected from the second beam group and any beam selected from the fourth beam group can be simultaneously received by the UE 104. For example, CRI#2, CRI#6, CRI#9, and CRI#13 can be selected for hybrid joint transmission, as illustrated in FIG. 7.
[0131] In some embodiments, the simultaneous Rx beam group combination can be reported by a bitmap, each bit in the bitmap corresponds to a beam group. The beam groups each with a corresponding bit “1” can be simultaneously received by the UE 104. For example, the first simultaneous Rx beam group combination may be represented by “B1B2B3B4=1010” , the second simultaneous Rx beam group combination may be represented by “B1B2B3B4=1001” , the third simultaneous Rx beam group combination may be represented by “B1B2B3B4=0110” , and the fourth simultaneous Rx beam group combination may be represented by “B1B2B3B4=0101” , where B1, B2, B3 and B4 are 4 bits corresponding to the first to fourth beam groups respectively.
[0132] According to embodiments with reference to FIGS. 5-7, a solution of group based beam report is provided. Specifically, the UE 104 can provide a beam report indicating a plurality of beam combinations, and each beam combination may include multiple beams that can be received by the UE 104 simultaneously.
[0133] It is understood that the solution is provided based on an assumption as follows. The number of RX beams at the UE 104 side is limited, and a fact is that if different Tx beams are received by a same Rx beam, those Tx beams usually can be simultaneously received by the UE 104. Further if different Rx beams can be simultaneously formed by the UE 104, e.g., different Rx beams are from different panels, Tx beams which are received by those Rx beams can also be simultaneously received by the UE 104. As such, the solution of group based beam report for distributed MIMO system is provided to enable the high order multi-TRP operation.
[0134] Reference is further made to FIG. 8, which illustrates a signalling chart illustrating communication process 800 in accordance with some example embodiments of the present disclosure. The process 800 may involve a UE 104 and a BS 200, such as that illustrated in FIG. 2. It would be appreciated that the process 800 may be applied to other communication scenarios, which will not be described in detail.
[0135] In the process 800, the BS 200 transmits, and the UE 104 receives, a report configuration at 810. In some implementations, the report configuration may be a CSI report configuration for hybrid joint transmission, the report configuration may be associated with a plurality of resource sets for a plurality of TRPs.
[0136] In some examples, each of the plurality of resource sets comprises multiple resources for a corresponding TRP. For example, the UE 104 may be configured with: a first resource set for a first TRP, a second resource set for a second TRP, a third resource set for a third TRP, …etc.
[0137] In some implementations, the report configuration indicates at least one CJT group of resources, where a CJT group of resources may include at least two resources from different resource sets.
[0138] In some implementations, the report configuration indicates at least one NCJT group of resources, which an NCJT group of resources may include at least two resources from different resource sets.
[0139] In some implementations, the report configuration indicates at least one HJT group of resources, which an HJT group of resources may include at least two resources from different resource sets.
[0140] In some implementations, the report configuration may indicate to the UE 104 to provide CSIs associated with all resources in the plurality of resource sets.
[0141] In the process 800, the UE 104 determines a plurality of CSIs based on the report configuration at 820. In some implementations, the UE 104 may determine at least one CSI for CJT hypothesis corresponding to at least one CJT group of resources. In some implementations, the UE 104 may determine at least one CSI for NCJT hypothesis corresponding to at least one NCJT group of resources. In some implementations, the UE 104 may determine at least one CSI for HJT hypothesis corresponding to at least one HJT group of resources. In some implementations, the UE 104 may determine at least one CSI for single TRP hypothesis corresponding to at least one resource that does not belong to any of the at least one CJT group of resources, the at least one NCJT group of resources, or the at least one HJT group of resources.
[0142] In addition, the BS 200 may transmit, and the UE 104 may receive, an indication indicating one or multiple hypotheses at 830. Accordingly, at 840, the UE 104 may transmit, and the BS 200 may receive, a report which includes one or more than one CSI based on the indication.
[0143] In some implementations, the indication may indicate to the UE 104 to report a CSI comprising one CSI for CJT hypothesis, one CSI for HJT hypothesis, and one CSI for single TRP hypothesis. In some examples, the UE 104 may determine one CSI (such as a best one) from at least one CSI for CJT hypothesis corresponding to at least one CJT group of resources. In some examples, the UE 104 may determine one CSI (such as a best one) from at least one CSI for HJT hypothesis corresponding to at least one HJT group of resources. In some examples, the UE 104 may determine one CSI (such as a best one) from at least one CSI for single TRP hypothesis corresponding to at least one resource that does not belong to any of the at least one CJT group of resources, the at least one NCJT group of resources, or the at least one HJT group of resources.
[0144] For example, at least one CSI for CJT hypothesis corresponding to at least one CJT group of resources may be feedback based on high resolution codebook with a number of TRPs with CJT hypothesis.
[0145] In some implementations, the indication may indicate to the UE 104 to report a CSI comprising one CSI which is a best one among those for part or all hypotheses.
[0146] As an illustrated instance, the UE 104 may be configured with a CSI report configuration associated with the following resources setting for channel measurement:
[0147] a NZP CSI-RS resource set for TRP1: = {resource#0, resource#1, resource#2, resource#3} ; a NZP CSI-RS resource set for TRP2: = {resource#4, resource#5, resource#6, resource#7} ; a NZP CSI-RS resource set for TRP3: = {resource#8, resource#9, resource#10, resource#11} ; and a NZP CSI-RS resource set for TRP4: = {resource#12, resource#13, resource#14, resource#15} ;
[0148] Coherent joint transmission groups: CJT group 1: = {resource#0, resource#8} ; and CJT group 2: = {resource#4, resource#12} ;
[0149] Non-coherent joint transmission groups: NCJT group 1: = {resource#1, resource#5} ; and NCJT group 2: = {resource#9, resource#13} ; and
[0150] Hybrid coherent and non-coherent transmission groups: HJT group 1: = {resource#2, resource#10, resource#6, resource#14} .
[0151] With this configuration, the UE 104 may determine the following:
[0152] two CSIs (e.g., CSI#1, and CSI#2) , each of which may include RI, PMI, and / or CQI, for 2 CJT hypotheses corresponding to CJT group 1 and CJT group 2;
[0153] two CSIs (e.g., CSI#3, and CSI#4) for 2 NCJT hypotheses corresponding to NCJT group 1 and NCJT group 2;
[0154] one CSI (e.g., CSI#5) corresponds to HJT hypothesis, where resource#2 and resource#10 are for CJT, resource#6 and resource#14 for CJT, and resource#2 +resource#10 and resource#6 + resource#14 are for NCJT; and
[0155] four CSIs (e.g., CSI#6, CSI#7, CSI#8, CSI#9) for 4 single TRP hypotheses corresponding to resource#3, resource#7, resource#11, and resource#15.
[0156] In some examples, the BS 200 may indicate to the UE 104 to report a CSI comprising one CSI for CJT, one CSI for HJT, and one CSI for STRP. In this event, the UE 104 shall report a first CSI associated with the best one among CSI#1 and CSI#2, a second CSI associated with CSI#5, and a third CSI associated with the best one among CSI#6, CSI#7, CSI#8, CSI#9 in the CSI report. In some examples, different CSIs can be represented by different CSI resource indicator codepoints.
[0157] Alternatively, in some other examples, the BS 200 may indicate to the UE 104 to report a CSI associated with the best one among all the transmission hypotheses associated with the CSI resources for channel measurement. In this event, the UE 104 shall report one of the CSI#1, CSI#2, CSI#3, CSI#4, CSI#5, CSI#6, CSI#7, CSI#8, CSI#9, which may have the best performance. For example, a resource indicator codepoint associated with the best CSI may be included in the CSI report.
[0158] As such, for CSI measurement and report for hybrid joint transmission considering potential combination of CJT and NCJT, the BS 200 may configure multiple transmission hypotheses associated with a CSI report. For example, the UE 104 may be configured with a plurality of resource sets (which may be implemented as multiple CSI-RS resources) for channel measurement associated with a CSI report configuration with the following hypothesis: some CSI-RS resources within a CSI-RS resource set can be used for single-TRP based DL transmission; and some CSI-RS resource combinations selected from different CSI-RS resource sets can be used for CJT, NCJT, or HJT based DL transmission. With these measurements, the BS 200 can indicate to the UE 104 to report the CSI associated with one or more transmission hypotheses. For example, the BS 200 can indicate to the UE 104 to report the CSI associated with HJT, NCJT and STRP scheme corresponding to each of the TRPs in a CSI report. For example, the BS 200 can indicate to the UE 104 to report the CSI associated with the best one or more among all the configured transmission hypotheses.
[0159] According to some embodiments in the present disclosure, the hybrid joint transmission is supported for distributed MIMO system. Specifically, the UE may be configured with a CSI report for one or more of: CJT group selection, group based beam report, or CSI feedback corresponding at least one hypothesis.

Although the processes 300, 600, and 800 are discussed separately, in some cases, some or all of them can be combined. For example, the configuration at 810 may be determined (e.g. generated) by the BS 200 based on, e.g., the CSI report at 330 and / or the beam report at 630.
