Abstract
Description
DEVICES AND METHODS FOR COMMUNICATION
[0001] FIELDS
[0002] Example embodiments of the present disclosure generally relate to the field of communication techniques and in particular, to devices and methods for sidelink (SL) reference signal (RS) transmission on a shared spectrum.BACKGROUND
[0003] A sidelink (SL) refers to a communication mode in which a direct link is established between communication devices, e.g., terminal devices, and data or information may be directly exchanged between terminal devices without going through a network device. In SL communications, a SL signal may be communicated between communication devices for various applications. Sidelink in unlicensed spectrum, shared spectrum, shared channel or band (SL-U) is one of the key topics in Release 18 of the 3rd Generation Partnership Project (3GPP) . Before a terminal device initiates channel occupancy on an unlicensed or shared spectrum, the terminal device should perform a channel access procedure for accessing the shared spectrum, for example, a channel access procedure (also called Listen Before Talk (LBT) procedure) , to assess the shared spectrum. Only when the LBT outcome shows that the channel is idle, the device can perform signal transmission; otherwise, the device cannot perform signal transmission.
[0004] A Channel Occupancy Time (COT) refers to the total time for which network device / terminal device and any network device / terminal device (s) sharing the channel occupancy perform transmission (s) on a channel after a network device / terminal device performs the corresponding channel access procedure. In order to ensure fairness, once a device successfully occupies the channel, the device shall not transmit on the channel for a COT that exceeds a predefined Maximum Channel Occupancy Time (MCOT) , for example, 5ms, 10ms or 20ms.SUMMARY

[0033] Embodiments of the present disclosure provide solutions for sidelink (SL) reference signal (RS) transmissions on a shared spectrum. Principles and implementations of the present disclosure will be described in detail below with reference to the figures.
[0034] FIG. 1 illustrates a schematic diagram of an example communication environment 100 in which example embodiments of the present disclosure can be implemented.
[0035] The communication environment 100 includes a plurality of communication devices 110-1, 110-2, 110-3, 110-4, and 120. In FIG. 1, the communication devices 110-1, 110-2, 110-3, and 110-4 (collectively or individually referred to as communication devices 110) are illustrated as terminal devices. The communication device 120 is illustrated as a network device which provides a serving area 102 called a cell.
[0036] It is to be understood that the number of devices and their connections in FIG. 1 are given for the purpose of illustration without suggesting any limitations to the present disclosure. The communication environment 100 may include any suitable number of network devices and / or terminal devices adapted for implementations of the present disclosure.
[0037] The communications in the communication environment 100 may conform to any suitable standards including, but not limited to, Global System for Mobile Communications (GSM) , Long Term Evolution (LTE) , LTE-Evolution, LTE-Advanced (LTE-A) , New Radio (NR) , Wideband Code Division Multiple Access (WCDMA) , Code Division Multiple Access (CDMA) , GSM EDGE Radio Access Network (GERAN) , Machine Type Communication (MTC) and the like. The embodiments of the present disclosure may be performed according to any generation communication protocols either currently known or to be developed in the future. Examples of the communication protocols include, but not limited to, the first generation (1G) , the second generation (2G) , 2.5G, 2.75G, the third generation (3G) , the fourth generation (4G) , 4.5G, the fifth generation (5G) communication protocols, 5.5G, 5G-Advanced networks, or the sixth generation (6G) networks.
[0038] In some embodiments, a communication device 110 and a communication device 120 may communicate with each other via a channel such as a wireless communication channel on an air interface (e.g., Uu interface) . The communication device 110 capable of communicating with the communication device 120 may be in coverage of the serving area 102 of the communication device 120. In the illustrated example of FIG. 1, the communication devices 110-1 and 110-2 may communicate with the communication device 120. The wireless communication channel may comprise a physical uplink control channel (PUCCH) , a physical uplink shared channel (PUSCH) , a physical random-access channel (PRACH) , a physical downlink control channel (PDCCH) , a physical downlink shared channel (PDSCH) and a physical broadcast channel (PBCH) . Of course, any other suitable channels are also feasible. In the specific example of communication environment 100, a link from the communication device 110 to the communication device 120 is referred to as uplink, while a link from the communication device 120 to the communication device 110 is referred to as a downlink.
[0039] In some embodiments, the communication devices 110 may communicate with each other via a sidelink (SL) connection. A sidelink is a communication mode that allows communications between two or more terminal devices without the communications going through the network device. In sidelink, a communication device which performs a transmission to another communication device may be referred to as a transmitting device, a sidelink transmitting device, a sidelink transmitter, a transmitter (TX) device, or the like, and the other communication device which receives the transmission may be referred to as a receiving device, a sidelink receiving device, a sidelink receiver, a receiver (RX) device, or the like.
[0040] Sidelink communications may be carried out on a wireless interface, e.g., PC5 interface. sidelink communications may be unicast, groupcast, or broadcast, and may be used for device-to-device (D2D) communications, vehicle-to-everything (V2X) communications, emergency rescue applications, etc.
[0041] Depending on whether covered within a serving area of a network device or not, sidelink communication scenarios may include in-coverage (InC) , partial-coverage, and out-of-coverage (OOC) . For example, in the illustrated example of FIG. 1, sidelink communications between the communication devices 110-1 and 110-2 are in-coverage of the communication device 120; sidelink communications between the communication devices 110-3 and 110-4 are out-of-coverage. Partial-coverage may involve a scenario where a communication device 110 is within the network coverage area while the other communication device is outside the network coverage. For example, in FIG. 1, sidelink communications between one of the communication devices 110-1 and 110-2 and one of the communication devices 110-3 and 110-4 may be considered as in partial-coverage.
[0042] In some cases, a network device (e.g., the communication device 120) facilitates the scheduling of resources for sidelink communications between the communication devices 110. In other cases, sidelink communications are carried out between the communication devices 110 without the involvement of a network device (e.g., the communication device 120) . The configuration information for sidelink communication may be conveyed via one of: signaling from a network device, system information block from a network device or the other UE, sidelink control information from the other UE, PC5 signaling from the other UE, medium access control element (MAC CE) from the other UE and pre-configuration information.
[0043] SL resource allocation schemes may be applied to allocate resources in a SL resource pool for sidelink communications. There may be two SL resource allocation schemes. In a first SL resource allocation scheme (referred to as Mode 1 or Scheme 1 of SL resource allocation) , the network device may schedule SL resources via the communication interface with the communication devices 110. The resource allocation may include dynamic grant, for example, by downlink control information (DCI) , or configured grant (e.g., Type 1 or Type 2 configured grant) . In a second SL resource allocation scheme (referred to as Mode 2 or Scheme 2 of SL resource allocation) , the resources for sidelink communications may be autonomously selected by the communication devices 110 based on a contention scheme through resource sensing or random selection.
[0044] In some embodiments, one or more types of resource pools, such as one or more dedicated resource pools (DRPs) and / or one or more shared resource pools (SRPs) including the time-frequency resources may be configured for sidelink communications. As used herein, a “resource pool” may comprise one or more contiguous or non-contiguous resource block (RB) sets in frequency domain, and / or the like. A resource pool may occupy a certain frequency band and may occur in time domain according to certain timing configuration. A resource pool may thus comprise time-frequency resources for use.
[0045] A RB set in a resource pool may comprise a certain number of contiguous resource blocks (RBs) . RB sets with different numbers of RBs may be defined for different resource pools. A RB set may also be referred to as a frequency unit, a frequency band, or a sub-band, or a channel. In some cases, there may be a gap of guard band between two contiguous RB sets in a resource pool.
[0046] For a SRP, a SL positioning reference signal (PRS) resource refers to a time-frequency resource within a slot that is used for SL PRS transmission. Characteristics associated with a SL PRS resource in a slot of a shared resource pool include at least but are not limited to: SL PRS resource ID, SL PRS comb offset and associated SL PRS comb size (N) , SL PRS starting symbol and number of SL PRS symbols (M) , and SL PRS frequency domain allocation where SL PRS frequency domain allocation is not used to identify a unique SL PRS resource ID. A SL PRS resource may be identified by a combination of SL PRS resource ID and a SL PRS frequency domain allocation. This combination is unique within a slot of a shared resource pool. A SL PRS resource refers to a time-frequency resource within a slot of a dedicated SL PRS resource pool that is used for SL PRS transmission. In some embodiments, (M, N) patterns with M > N with full staggering are supported. In the last (M-N) symbols, the SL PRS symbols are repeated with the same order of comb offsets as in the first N symbols.
[0047] In a DRP, with regards to the SL-PRS time-domain resource allocation within the resource pool, it supports a SL-PRS-resource-based allocation . SCI for a SL PRS at least indicates the following values: a source ID, a destination ID, a resource reservation period, a SL PRS priority, and a cast type.
[0048] FIG. 2 illustrates a part 200 of an example comb-based SL RS in accordance with some example embodiments of the present disclosure. In this example, the start symbol is 2, the length of a SL RS is 12 symbols, the comb size of the SL RS is 4 REs (resource element) , and the offset is 3 REs. The comb size indicates the RE occupancy pattern of the SL RS, for example, a comb size of 4 indicates that the SL RS occupies one in four REs. The offset indicates the offset of the first RE in the first symbol for SL RS transmission. For example, in FIG. 2, in the first symbol of n=2, r (0) of the SL RS locates at the fourth RE because the offset is 3 REs.
[0049] According to some time-frequency definitions, a slot may comprise one or more automatic gain control (AGC) symbols, one or more physical sidelink control channels (PSCCH) for carrying control information, one or more physical sidelink shared channels (PSSCH) for carrying traffic data, one or more guard period (GP) symbols, and one or more physical sidelink feedback channels (PSFCH) for carrying feedback information. A resource for the PSFCH may comprises a resource block (RB) and / or a symbol. In some examples, PSFCH may be at a last available sidelink symbol before GP. In some examples, the PSFCH may be configured as RBs in a resource pool, indicated by a bitmap.
[0050] In some sidelink communication scenarios, one or more SL signals may be exchanged between two or among a group of communication devices 110. The SL signals may carry SL traffic data, or may include a SL RS. A SL RS or a RS may be a signal sequence that is generally known to both a transmitting device and a receiving device. There may be various SL RSs designed for different purpose.
[0051] As an example, in the case of SL positioning, one or more sidelink positioning reference signals (SL PRSs) may be communicated. A positioning procedure may involve a target device to be positioned and further involve at least one anchor device according to different PRS-based positioning techniques. An anchor device may comprise any communication device that supports positioning of the target device. One or more SL PRSs may be communicated between the target device and the anchor device (s) along with the assistance information for absolute positioning or relative positioning, respectively. In some embodiments, the target device may act as a TX device to transmit a SL PRS to the anchor device (s) . In some embodiments, one or more anchor device (s) may act as a TX device (s) to transmit a SL PRS to the target device and / or other anchor device (s) .
[0052] In some embodiments, multiple sidelink LTE Positioning Protocol (SLPP) transactions may be in progress simultaneously between the same target and server nodes, to improve flexibility and efficiency. In some embodiments, no more than one SLPP procedure between a particular pair of target and server nodes to obtain location information shall be in progress at any time for the same positioning method. Parallel transactions are permitted (i.e., a new SLPP transaction may be initiated, while another one is outstanding) . A SLLP procedure may include a server sending a request to the target for positioning measurements, the target sending a request for particular assistance data, the server returning the assistance data requested, and the target obtains and returns the location information (e.g., positioning method measurements) requested. In some embodiments, SLPP procedures are not required to occur in any fixed order, in order to provide greater flexibility in positioning.
[0053] In addition to the positioning, a SL RS may be communicated to enable channel status determination of a sidelink, communication scheme determination, and / or for other purposes. In addition to the SL PRS, a SL RS may also include, for example, a channel status information reference signal (CSI RS) , a sounding reference signal (SRS) , or any other reference signals that need to be transmitted in sidelink communications.
[0054] During associated communication of SL RS, both a TX device and a RX device need to determine a resource (s) configured for communicating a SL RS and the feedback information (as well as a measurement report) . A TX device determines the configured resource (s) so that it can know where to transmit the SL RS and receive the feedback information (as well as the measurement report) . A RX device determines the configured resource (s) in a similar way so that it can know where to detect the SL RS and transmit the feedback information (as well as the measurement report) . Therefore, some operations for the communication devices involved in the associated communications of SL RS are similar.
[0055] In some embodiments, it is proposed to support a wide bandwidth for SL communications. For example, it is proposed to support for SL PRS bandwidths of up to 100 or 400 MHz, e.g., at least in FR1 or FR2 spectrum, respectively. In SL RS communication, signalling and associated device behavior may be performed via unicast, groupcast (not including many to one) and broadcast.
[0056] In some embodiments, SL communications are performed on a shared or unlicensed spectrum which may comprise one or more resource pools, each comprising one or more frequency bands. As used herein, a frequency band may also be referred to as a channel, or a radio block (RB) set, or a set of contiguous RBs. In the following, the terms “frequency band” and “channel” in the shared spectrum are used interchangeably. A SL transmission on a plurality of frequency bands may also be referred to as multi-channel SL transmission. There may be a guard band between two contiguous frequency bands in the shared spectrum.
[0057] For communications on the shared spectrum, a communication device may follow the principle of “Listen Before Talk (LBT) ” , that is, the device needs to perform a channel access procedure with channel sensing, such as Type 1 channel access procedure, to occupy the channel of the unlicensed spectrum before transmitting a signal on the channel. If the result of the channel access procedure indicates that the channel is idle, the device can perform signal transmission; otherwise, the device cannot perform signal transmission on the shared spectrum. A Channel Occupancy Time (COT) refers to the total time for which network device / terminal device and any network device / terminal device (s) sharing the channel occupancy perform transmission (s) on a channel after a network device / terminal device performs the corresponding channel access procedure. In order to ensure fairness, once a device successfully occupies the channel, the device shall not transmit on the channel for a COT that exceeds a predefined Maximum Channel Occupancy Time (MCOT) .
[0058] To promote the accuracy and facilitate the application of SL positioning based on the shared spectrum, the impact of channel access procedure on SL PRS transmission and corresponding signal / channel design needs to be considered.
[0059] Considering the requirements of SL positioning on latency, it needs to consider how to transmit more SL PRSs in a positioning device group without complex or additional channel access procedure once a terminal device initiates a channel occupancy.
[0060] Example embodiments of the present disclosure provide an improved solution for SL RS transmissions on a shared spectrum. In this solution, one or more candidate SL RS combinations are defined for a device group. A candidate SL RS combination indicates a sequence of SL RS transmissions in a plurality of transmission occasions on a shared spectrum, and each communication device in the device group is associated with at least one SL RS transmission in a candidate SL RS combination. If a target SL RS combination is triggered, each communication devices in the device group perform, according to the target SL RS combination, at least one SL RS transmission associated with the communication device in at least one transmission occasion. For a communication device in the device group, it determines which candidate SL RS combination is triggered based on decoding of sidelink control information (SCI) or reception of a predetermined indication signal on the shared spectrum. In this way, by following the pre-determined SL RS combination, respective communication devices in the device group can perform their SL RS transmission accordingly, without requiring each communication device to acquire channel occupancy on the shared spectrum through complicated and long-latency channel access procedures.
[0061] Reference is made to FIG. 3, which illustrates a signaling flow 300 of SL transmissions on a shared spectrum in accordance with some embodiments of the present disclosure. The signal flow 300 involves a plurality of communication devices, including a first communication device 301 and a second communication device 302. Those communication devices support SL communication with each other. Those communication devices may be any of the communication devices 110 in FIG. 1.
[0062] In FIG. 3, it is assumed that the first communication device 301 and the second communication device 302 are included in a device group for SL RS communication, such as a “SL positioning group” . In the SL positioning scenario, the device group may include one or more other communication devices that participate in the same SL positioning session. A communication device in the device group may be a target device to be positioned, and other communication devices may be anchor devices to facilitate the positioning of the target device. A target device may be any device, such as, a terminal device, and an anchor device may be any device such as a terminal device or a positioning reference unit (PRU) .
[0063] In some embodiments, according to the principle of different SL-PRS based positioning methods, the positioning procedure may involve a target device and at least two anchor devices, along with the necessary assisted information for absolute positioning or relative positioning, respectively. Each anchor device may transmit / receive SL PRS through omnidirectional or directional beams from one or multiple panels, and a directional SL PRS beam corresponds to a certain spatial direction and coverage. The SL positioning related signals / channels, such as SL-PRS, PSCCH scheduling SL-PRS, etc., may be transmitted in licensed spectrum or in unlicensed / shared spectrum. Assuming the target device establishes separate PC5 connection (s) with one or multiple anchor devices, the signaling, SL PRS (pre-) configuration and positioning related information, such as shared and / or dedicated resource pool configuration, SL-PRS resource configuration and measurement report configuration, may be transmitted via PC5 interface.
[0064] A terminal device (which could be a PRU) that supports SL positioning can be allowed to support the positioning reference signal transmission capability and signal measurement capability on PC5. It would be appreciated that in other scenarios than the SL positioning, other types of SL RS may be transmitted by the communication devices in the device group.
[0065] As will be discussed below, the second communication device 302 is assumed to be an initiator device in the device group which acquires channel occupancy (CO) on a shared spectrum. The second communication device 302 may share CO on the shared spectrum with other communication devices in the device group. Thus, although only the first communication device 301 and the second communication device 302 are illustrated in FIG. 3, other communication devices in the device group may perform similar operations as described from the first communication device 301.
[0066] In the signaling flow 300, the first communication device 301 determines (305) and the second communication device 302 also determines (310) at least one candidate sidelink (SL) reference signal (RS) combination for a device group comprising the first communication device 301 and the second communication device 302. A candidate SL RS combination indicates a sequence of SL RS transmissions in a plurality of transmission occasions on a shared spectrum, and each communication device in the device group being associated with at least one SL RS transmission in a candidate SL RS combination.
[0067] The second communication device 302 triggers (315) a target SL RS combination from the at least one candidate SL RS combination for the device group. In some embodiments, the second communication device is an initiator device in the device group which acquires channel occupancy (CO) on the shared spectrum through a successful channel access procedure.
[0068] The second communication device 302 transmits (320) , to one or more other communication devices in the device group, sidelink control information (SCI) or a predetermined indication signal on the shared spectrum to indicate that the target SL RS combination is triggered, the indication signal being inserted before a channel carrying the SCI in a slot.
[0069] The first communication device 301 determines (335) whether the at least one candidate SL RS combination is triggered based on decoding of sidelink control information (SCI) or reception of a predetermined indication signal from the second communication device on the shared spectrum, the indication signal being inserted before a channel carrying the SCI in a slot.
[0070] The second communication device 302 performs (325) , according to the target SL RS combination, at least one SL RS transmission associated with the second communication device in at least one transmission occasion. One or more other communication devices in the device group may be configured to detect and measure the at least one SL RS from the second communication device 302. The one or more other communication devices may or may not include the first communication device 301.
[0071] In accordance with a determination that a target SL RS combination from the at least one candidate SL RS combination is triggered, the first communication device 301 performs (340) , according to the target SL RS combination, at least one SL RS transmission associated with the first communication device in at least one transmission occasion. One or more other communication devices in the device group may be configured to detect and measure the at least one SL RS from the first communication device 301. The one or more other communication devices may or may not include the second communication device 301.
[0072] In embodiments of the present disclosure, one or more candidate SL RS combinations are pre-configured for a device group, and each candidate SL RS combination defines a sequence of SL RS transmissions for the respective communication devices in the device group. FIG. 4A illustrates an example 401 of a SL RS combination for a device group including UE0, UE1, and UE2. This SL RS combination defining first two SL RS from UE0, then one SL RS from UE1, and then one SL RS from UE2.
[0073] Through the candidate SL RS combination related to SL RS transmissions from different devices within a same positioning group, efficient time-frequency resources utilization for low-latency SL RS transmissions can be achieved without additional channel access procedure. Further, the embodiments of the present disclosure will introduce less impact on the existing specifications of SL, SL-U and positioning, the designs and methods are proposed to facilitate the SL RS transmission in the shared spectrum considering the impact of channel access procedure.
[0074] In some embodiments, the at least one candidate SL RS combination is determined based on SL RS resources configured or pre-configured for respective communication devices comprised in the device group. As such, the respective communication devices in the device group can perform their own SL RS transmission appropriately according to each candidate SL RS combination.
[0075] In some embodiments, a candidate SL RS combination is configured on a corresponding resource pool on the shared spectrum. The shared spectrum may comprise one or more resource pools (RP) , such as one or more SRPs or one or more DRP. Each candidate SL RS combination may be configured with a corresponding RP of the shared spectrum. Thus, the frequency bandwidth of the candidate SL RS combination is equal to or smaller than a bandwidth of the corresponding RP. For example, in FIG. 4A, the SL RS combination is configured with a RP bandwidth in the frequency domain.
[0076] In some embodiments, a candidate SL RS combination may be defined based on TDM-ed and / or FDM-ed multiplexing SL RS resources for different UEs in the group. If a communication device initiates a channel occupancy for its SL RS transmission (s) , other SL RSs in the SL RS combination may be transmitted consequently through sharing the COT initiated by the communication device, without additional complex channel access procedures with backoff procedure, such as Type 1 channel access procedure; alternatively, if a communication device initiates a channel occupancy for its SL RS transmission (s) , other SL RSs in the SL RS combination may be transmitted consequently through sharing the COT initiated by the communication device with a simple channel access procedure without backoff procedure, such as Type 2, Type 2A, Type 2B or Type 2C channel access procedure.
[0077] In some embodiments, in a candidate SL RS combination, legacy SL signals and / or channels, such as PSCCH, PSSCH, AGC, and GP, may be inserted between adjacent SL RSs in the candidate SL RS combination. In some examples, the inserted legacy SL signals and / or channels may be (pre) configured or explicitly or implicitly indicated. In some embodiments, SL RS repetition for a communication device may be involved in a SL RS combination, e.g., a consecutive repetition of a SL RS, or other SL RS(s) inserted between the repetitions of a SL RS. In the example of FIG. 4A, SL RS from UE0 is continuously repeated for two times.
[0078] In some embodiments, the cast type of the SL slot that initiates a CO for transmissions in a SL RS combination may be groupcast or broadcast, so the other communication devices except the CO initiator device can share the COT to transmit SL RSs in the SL RS combination.
[0079] In some embodiments, the at least one candidate SL RS combination for the device group may be defined by a certain communication device in the device group, which may be a group initiator device or group manager device. The group initiator device or group manager device may or may not be the device to be positioned in the device group. The group initiator device or group manager device may define the at least one candidate SL RS combination for each communication device in the device group, and transmit a configuration of the at least one candidate SL RS combination to other communication devices in the device group. The first communication device 301 and / or the second communication device 302, if they are not the group initiator device or group manager device, may receive the configuration of the one or more candidate SL RS combinations determined by the combination generator.
[0080] In some embodiments, the group initiator device or group manager device may define a single candidate SL RS combination for all the communication devices in the device group. Alternatively, the group initiator device or group manager device may define more than one candidate SL RS combination, or may define the candidate SL RS combination per device. Then each communication device may thus have a dedicated candidate SL RS combination. The per-device SL RS combinations may be generated in a cyclic shift manner.
[0081] FIG. 4B illustrates an example 402 of per-UE candidate SL RS combinations according to some embodiments. As illustrated, SL RS Combination0 for UE0 is defined with first two SL RS transmissions for UE0, one SL RS transmission for UE1, and one SL RS transmission for UE2, and SL RS Combination1 for UE1 is defined with first two SL RS transmissions for UE1, one SL RS transmission for UE2, and one SL RS transmission for UE0. It is noted that also illustrated as separate, in the example of FIG. 4B, SL RS Combination0 and SL RS Combination1 are at the same frequency-domain location with the same RP bandwidth.
[0082] In some embodiments, each communication device in the device group may define its own one or more candidate SL RS combinations. For example, SL RS Combination0 in FIG. 4B may be defined by UE0, and SL RS Combination1 in FIG. 4B may be defined by UE1, and so on. Each communication device in the device group may transmit a configuration of its generated candidate SL RS combination (s) to other communication devices in the device group.
[0083] In some embodiments, the first communication device 301 and / or the second communication device 302 may receive, from one or more further communication devices in the device group, one or more configurations of one or more candidate SL RS combinations determined by the one or more further communication devices, respectively. If the first communication device 301 and / or the second communication device 302 generate their own candidate SL RS combination (s) , may also transmit a configuration of the generated candidate SL RS combination (s) to other combination devices in the device group.
[0084] In some embodiments, when defining a candidate SL RS combination, an order of a plurality of SL RS transmissions indicated by a candidate SL RS combination is determined based on at least one of respective priorities of SL RSs to be transmitted, and / or a preconfigured rule. For example, the first one or more SL RS transmissions in a candidate SL RS combination may be determined as corresponding to the communication device for which this candidate SL RS combination is generated or applied.
[0085] In some embodiments, a time domain span of a plurality of transmission occasions indicated by a candidate SL RS combination may be limited within a slot or extends across slots. A candidate SL RS combination within a slot may be referred to as an intra-slot SL RS combination. In some embodiments, a candidate SL RS combination across slots may be a slot-level combination, e.g., each communication device being defined with its SL RS transmission within one slot. In some embodiments, a candidate SL RS combination across slots may be an intra-slot and inter-slot hybrid combination. For example, some of the SL RS transmissions for two or more communication devices may be located within a same slot.
[0086] FIG. 4C illustrates an example 403 of a candidate SL RS combination within a slot. In this example 403, a SL RS combination indicates consecutive SL RS transmissions from UE0, UE1, and UE2 within a slot. This slot may also include AGC or PSCCH before the SL RS transmissions and a GP after the SL RS transmissions. FIG. 4D illustrates an example 404 of a candidate SL RS combination across slots. In this example 404, a SL RS combination indicates SL RS transmissions across two consecutive slots. The SL RS combination in FIG. 4D is an intra-slot and inter-slot hybrid combination, where SL RS transmissions from UE0 are within a first slot, and SL RS transmissions from UE1 and UE2 are combined in a second slot.
[0087] A sequence of SL RS transmissions indicated by a candidate SL RS combination are generally located in a same resource pool. In some embodiments, the shared spectrum is configured with one or more types of RPs that are supported by the device group, for example, a first type of SRPs and / or a second type of DRPs. In some cases, both DRP (s) and SRP (s) are configured for each communication device in the device group.
[0088] In some embodiments, a single type of resource pool is used for all of a plurality of candidate SL RS combinations (if supported) , for example, either a DRP (s) or a SRP (s) is used. In some embodiments, different type of resource pools may be used for the plurality of candidate SL RS combinations (if supported) , for example, both the DRP and SRP may be applied to the candidate SL RS combination of each device. FIG. 4E illustrates an example 405 of candidate SL RS combinations. In this example 405, SL RS Combination0 is located in a DRP, and SL RS Combination1 is located in a SRP.
[0089] In some embodiments, if a SRP is used for a candidate SL RS combination, PSSCH may be inserted between adjacent SL RSs in the candidate SL RS combination. As illustrated in the example 405 of FIG. 4E, PSSCH is interested between SL RS0 from UE0 and SL RS1 from UE1.
[0090] In some embodiments, resources for SL RS transmissions indicated by a plurality of candidate SL RS combinations (if supported) may be configured based on a same multiplexing mode. The same multiplexing mode may be a time division multiplexed (TDM-ed) mode or a frequency division multiplexed (FDM-ed) mode (including a com-based multiplexing mode or a sub-channel-based multiplexing mode) .
[0091] In some embodiments, resources for SL RS transmission indicated by the plurality of candidate SL RS combinations may be configured based on different multiplexing modes, e.g., both the TDM-ed mode and FDM-ed mode. FIG. 4F illustrates an example 407 of candidate SL RS combinations. In SL RS Combination0 and SL RS combination 1, the SL RS transmissions from UE0, UE1, and UE2 are considered as multiplexed in a TDM-ed mode. In addition, in SL RS Combination0, the SL RS transmission from UE0 and the SL RS transmission from UE1 are in a TDM-ed mode, or more specifically, in a com-based multiplexing mode. In SL RS Combination1, the SL RS transmission from UE0 and the SL RS transmission from UE1 are in a TDM-ed mode, or more specifically, in a sub-channel-based multiplexing mode.
[0092] In some embodiments, for a candidate SL RS combination, different multiplexing modes may be applied for SL RS transmissions within a slot. Different multiplexing modes may be applied within a slot, e.g., TDM-ed multiplexing and FDM-ed multiplexing. In some embodiments, for a candidate SL RS combination, a same multiplexing mode is applied for SL RS transmissions within a slot.
[0093] In some embodiments, a slot in SL may be configured with a plurality of candidate starting symbols in a slot. For example, among all the fourteen symbols in a slot, the first symbol and the seventh symbol in a slot may be set as two candidate starting symbols. SL communication in a slot may start either from the first symbol or the seventh symbol. In some embodiments, considering the different starting symbols of a SL slot that initiates a CO for a SL RS combination in the shared spectrum, the SL RS combination (s) may be designed only based on a single starting symbol. In some embodiments, the SL RS combination (s) may be designed based on different candidate starting symbols in a slot, respectively.
[0094] In some embodiments, for per-device combination, different SL RS combinations corresponding to multiple starting symbols may be used by the same device. If there are two or more candidate SL RS combinations determined by a communication device in the device group, then the transmission occasions indicated by the two or more candidate SL RS combinations may be configured based on different starting symbols in a slot, respectively.
[0095] The example designs of candidate SL RS combinations are discussed in the above embodiments. In the following, it will be further discussed trigger of a target SL RS combination from the candidate SL RS combination (s) . The signal / symbol structure or slot format and initial channel access procedures for acquiring CO on the shared spectrum will also be discussed below. It thus possible to achieve efficient time-frequency resources utilization for low-latency SL RS transmissions without additional complex channel access procedure involved.
[0096] In some embodiments, it is assumed that the second communication device 302 is a CO initiator device which has successfully accessed to the shared spectrum, e.g., to a RP of the shared spectrum, then the second communication device 302 can select one of the candidate SL RS combinations as a target SL RS combination, and transmit SCI to other communication devices in the device group. As the second communication device 302 is an initiator device in the device group which acquires a channel occupancy (CO) on the shared spectrum through a successful channel access procedure, it can share the CO to other communication devices in the device group. The SCI at least indicates sharing of CO on the shared spectrum acquired by the second communication device 302 and an indication of the target SL RS combination. A SL RS combination may be indicated through various ways, e.g., by indexing all the candidate SL RS combination (s) or through specific parameters that can define the SL RS combination.
[0097] In some embodiments, the SCI may be carried in PSCCH in a slot. From the perspective of the first communication device 301, it may detect and decode SCI from other communication devices in the device group om the shared spectrum. If the SCI from the second communication device 302 is successfully decoded to at least comprise CO sharing information related to the shared spectrum and an indication of the target SL RS combination, the first communication device 301 can thus determine that the target SL RS combination is triggered.
[0098] The CO sharing information allows the first communication device 301 to determine COT that is shared by the second communication device 302 for transmitting SL RS. As the target SL RS combination indicates the order of SL RS transmissions of the respective communication devices in the device group in the time domain, the first communication device 301 can further determine the at least one transmission occasion to perform its at least one SL RS transmission.
[0099] In some embodiments, the SCI may further comprise a frequency resource indication which indicates a frequency resource location, e.g., a location of a resource pool (SRP or DRP) . In some embodiments, in accordance with a determination that the SCI is successfully decoded to at least comprise a frequency resource indication, the first communication device 301 can determine a frequency resource location on the shared spectrum based on the frequency resource indication. In this way, the first communication device 301 can determine both the time-domain resource and frequency-domain resource for the at least one SL RS transmission. Then, the first communication device 301 may perform the at least one SL RS transmission associated with the first communication device 301 at the determined frequency resource location, e.g., using the corresponding resource pool at the determined frequency resource location.
[0100] In some embodiments, different communication devices within the same device group may have their opportunities to perform channel access procedures, in order to attempt to acquire CO on the shared spectrum, or more specifically to acquire CO of a RP in the shared spectrum. In some embodiments, simultaneous or parallel channel access procedures from different communication devices within the same device group in parallel with the further enhancement.
[0101] Alternatively, in some embodiments, sequential channel access procedures may be performed in order by different communication devices within the same device group. In some embodiments, the order may be configured in advance to the communication devices in the device group. In some embodiments, an order of the sequential channel access procedures within the plurality of sequential channel access windows is determined according to a configuration from a certain device in the device group, e.g., by a group initiator device or a group manager device. In some embodiments, the order may be determined based on results of previous channel access procedures on the shared spectrum by the plurality of communication devices, if have, namely the communication device which has performed a successful channel access procedure in the last transaction / session may have a high priority in a next round of sequential channel access procedures.
[0102] In some embodiments, different priorities of the channel access procedures of the different communication devices may be configured. In an embodiment, the different priorities may be configured based on priorities of SL RS to be transmitted by the communication devices. Alternatively, or in addition, the different priorities may be determined by a certain communication in the device group, such as a target device to be positioned or by a group initiator device or a group manager device. Alternatively, or in addition, the different priorities may be configured based on priorities of SLPP transactions or SLPP sessions, if multiple SLPP transactions or sessions are involved at the same time.
[0103] In some embodiments, to attempt to acquire CO on the shared spectrum, a communication device may perform a Type 1, Type A or Type B channel access procedure. If the result of the channel access procedure indicates that a resource pool on the shared spectrum is idle, the communication device can thus obtain CO of the resource pool. The Type A or Type B access procedure are used for multi-channel access when a resource pool includes a plurality of frequency bands. The Type A access procedure used for initiating CO of the resource pool may include a Type 1 channel access procedure on each frequency band of the resource pool. The Type B access procedure used for initiating CO of the resource pool may include at least a Type 1 channel access procedure on a primary frequency band of the resource pool and one or more Type 2A / B / C channel access procedures on one or more other frequency bands of the resource pool.
[0104] In some embodiments, if a communication device uses a transmission occasion (s) during CO shared by the other communication device, this communication device may also perform a Type 2A / B / C channel access procedure before performing a SL RS transmission (s) in the transmission occasion (s) . The sensing duration for the Type 2 channel access procedure is fixed and greatly shorter than that for the channel access procedure in order to acquiring CO (e.g., the Type 1, Type A or Type B channel access procedure) . After a successful result of the Type 2A / B / C channel access procedure, the communication device can perform the SL RS transmission (s) in the transmission occasion (s) during the shared CO.
[0105] In some embodiments, for both sequential channel access procedures and simultaneous channel access procedures, a channel access time window may be configured to a communication device in the device group, in order to limit the valid time duration for each channel access procedure to acquire CO. In some embodiments, a communication device in the device group may obtain a configured parameter for defining its channel access window, e.g., through SCI detected and decoded before the channel access window. The channel access windows may be configured as having a fixed duration for different communication devices, or having varied durations for different communication devices.
[0106] In some embodiments where sequential channel access procedures are configured for the device group, if there is one candidate SL RS combination (e.g., only the target SL RS combination to be triggered) , then a group initiator device or group manager device in the device group may be configured to perform a channel access procedure on the shared spectrum within a channel access window among a plurality of sequential channel access windows, to attempt to acquire CO on the shared spectrum. That is, only one communication device performs a channel access procedure within a channel access window. The group initiator device or group manager communication device may be (pre) configured, or selected along with the generation of the candidate SL RS combination, such as the group initiator device. Alternatively, the group initiator device or group manager device may be randomly selected. In this case, the target SL RS combination is triggered upon a successful channel access procedure.
[0107] In some embodiments, in the case that there is one candidate SL RS combination (e.g., only the target SL RS combination to be triggered) , different communication devices may perform the channel access procedures around the same candidate SL RS combination in order along with a serial of separate channel access windows. The order of different communication devices performing channel access may be (pre) configured or decided by a certain device in the device group, such as the group initiator device or group manager device.
[0108] In some embodiments, different communication devices may perform their respective channel access procedures around the same candidate SL RS combination in order along with a serial of separate channel access windows. From the perspective of the first communication device 301, it may determine a first channel access window of a plurality of sequential channel access windows, and perform, within the first channel access window, a channel access procedure on the shared spectrum, to attempt to acquire CO on the shared spectrum. A plurality of communication devices in the device group, including the second communication device 302, may perform sequential channel access procedures on the shared spectrum within the plurality of sequential channel access windows.
[0109] In some embodiments, in the case that there is one candidate SL RS combination (e.g., only the target SL RS combination) , the sequential channel access procedures may be performed by different communication devices on the same resource pool on the shared spectrum (referred to as a “target resource pool” ) . In this case, the target SL RS combination is triggered on a target resource pool upon a successful channel access procedure on the target resource pool. In some embodiments, if the SL RS bandwidth is smaller than a bandwidth of a resource pool, then different frequency ranges of the resource pool may be sensed.
[0110] FIG. 5A illustrates an example 501 of channel access windows for channel access procedures in accordance with some embodiments of the present disclosure. In this example, regarding a single candidate SL RS combination, i.e., SL RS Combination0, UE0 may perform a channel access procedure (e.g., LBT) within Channel Access Window0 for UE0, and UE1 may perform a channel access procedure (e.g., LBT) within Channel Access Window1 for UE1. The channel access procedures of UE0 and UE1 are both performed on the same resource pool. If the channel access procedure within Channel Access Window0 succeeded, UE0 may acquire CO of the resource pool in the shared spectrum and may decide to trigger SL RS Combination0. Similarly, if the channel access procedure within Channel Access Window1 succeeded, UE1 may acquire CO of the resource pool in the shared spectrum and may decide to trigger SL RS Combination0.
[0111] In some embodiments, in the case that there is one candidate SL RS combination (e.g., only the target SL RS combination) , if different resource pools are supported in the shared spectrum, different resource pools may be sensed. The sequential channel access procedures may be performed by different communication devices on different resource pools of the shared spectrum. In this case, the target SL RS combination may be triggered on a target resource pool upon a successful channel access procedure on the target resource pool.
[0112] FIG. 5B illustrates an example 502 of channel access windows for channel access procedures in accordance with some embodiments of the present disclosure. In this example, regarding the single candidate SL RS combination, i.e., SL RS Combination0, UE0 may perform a channel access procedure (e.g., LBT) on Resource Pool0 within Channel Access Window0 for UE0, and UE1 may perform a channel access procedure (e.g., LBT) on Resource Pool1 within Channel Access Window1 for UE1. If the channel access procedure within Channel Access Window0 succeeded, UE0 may acquire CO of Resource Pool0 in the shared spectrum and may decide to trigger SL RS Combination0 in this resource pool. Similarly, if the channel access procedure within Channel Access Window1 succeeded, UE1 may acquire CO of Resource Pool1 in the shared spectrum and may decide to trigger SL RS Combination0 in this resource pool.
[0113] In some embodiments, if the at least one candidate SL RS combination comprises a plurality of candidate SL RS combinations, e.g., there are separate candidate SL RS combinations for respective communication devices in the device group, then the sequential channel access procedures are performed by the plurality of communication devices on the shared spectrum for triggering respective candidate SL RS combinations corresponding to the plurality of communication devices, respectively. That is, different communication devices may perform the channel access procedures sequentially around different candidate SL RS combinations respectively, within a serial of separate channel access windows.
[0114] In some embodiments, the order of different communication devices performing the channel access procedures may be (pre) configured or decided by a certain device, such as the group initiator device or group manager device. Alternatively, the order may be based on the previous channel access procedure (s) result, if have, namely the device which has performed a successful channel access procedure in the last transaction / session may have a high priority.
[0115] In some embodiments, the plurality of candidate SL RS combinations may be configured on the same or different resource pools of the shared spectrum, and the sequential channel access procedures may be performed on the different resource pools of the shared spectrum for triggering respective candidate SL RS combinations. For example, different frequency ranges and resource pools (if supported) may be switched along with the communication devices switching sequentially.
[0116] FIG. 5C illustrates an example 503 of channel access windows for channel access procedures in accordance with some embodiments of the present disclosure. In this example, UE0 may perform a channel access procedure (e.g., LBT) on Resource Pool0 within Channel Access Window0 for UE0, and UE1 may perform a channel access procedure (e.g., LBT) on Resource Pool1 within Channel Access Window1 for UE1. If the channel access procedure within Channel Access Window0 succeeded, UE0 may acquire CO of Resource Pool0 in the shared spectrum and may decide to trigger SL RS Combination0 in this resource pool. Similarly, if the channel access procedure within Channel Access Window1 succeeded, UE1 may acquire CO of Resource Pool1 in the shared spectrum and may decide to trigger SL RS Combination1 in this resource pool.
[0117] It would be appreciated that although two channel access windows are illustrated in FIGS. 5A-5C, there may be more windows depending on the number of devices and the results of the channel access procedures.
[0118] As mentioned above, a communication device, which successfully acquires CO of a resource pool in the shared spectrum, may transmit SCI indicating CO sharing information and an indication of the triggered target SL RS combination, to allow other communication devices to known which SL RS combination is triggered and the shared CO duration for SL RS transmissions. Generally, each communication device may require a certain processing time for decoding the SCI, or decoding information related to the triggered target SL RS combination from the SCI. The information related to the triggered target SL RS combination is conveyed in SCI, and thus the processing time for decoding such information may be the same time as the processing time for SCI decoding and preparing signal to be transmitted. The processing time required by a communication device for decoding information related to the target SL RS combination from the SCI is represented as Tp. In some embodiments, the processing time Tp may be (pre) configured or indicated explicitly, or implicitly based on a UE capability report.
[0119] In some embodiments, the SCI can be successfully decoded by the communication device receiving the SCI (e.g., the first communication device 301 in FIG. 3) in case that a processing time for decoding information related to the target SL RS combination from the SCI is smaller than a predetermined duration (represented as Tg) .
[0120] In some embodiments, this predetermined duration Tg is a gap between an end of the first slot of SCI that carries scheduling information of the starting SL RS in the target SL RS combination and / or scheduling information of the target SL RS combination from a communication device in the device group and a staring symbol of the first SL RS in time domain in the target SL RS combination from a further communication device other than the communication device (which transmits the scheduling information) . The AGC symbol ahead of a SL RS may or may not be counted in the SL RS resource. As illustrated in an example 600 of FIG. 6A, the duration Tg is counted as a duration between the end of slot n (which is the first slot carrying the SCI in the PSCCH transmitted by UE0) and the start of SL RS1 from UE1.
[0121] In some embodiments, this predetermined duration Tg is a gap between an end of a first slot of SCI that carries scheduling information of a starting SL RS in the target SL RS combination and / or scheduling information of the target SL RS combination from a communication device in the device group and a beginning of a slot of SCI that carries scheduling information for the first SL RS in time domain in the target SL RS combination from a further communication device other than the communication device (which transmits the scheduling information) .
[0122] In some embodiments, the combination information, such as an indication of the target SL RS combination, can be conveyed along with the other information e.g. COT SI, in the SCI in a slot that initiates CO for SL RS combination transmission by a certain channel access procedure, such as Type 1, Type A or Type B channel access procedure on a single channel or on multiple channels.
[0123] In some embodiments, if the processing time Tp required for decoding SL RS combination related information is not smaller than the predetermined duration Tg, and indication signal is inserted before a channel carrying the SCI in a slot that initiates CO by a communication device for its SL RS transmission. This indication signal is used to indicate CO of a resource pool on the shared spectrum. This indication signal may also be referred to as a channel occupancy indication signal (or a filler signal in short) .
[0124] In some embodiments, in accordance with a determination that the indication signal is received on the shared spectrum, a communication device in the device group, e.g., the first communication device 301, can determine that CO is acquired by the other communication device (e.g., the second communication device 302) in the device group. Then the first communication device 301 may determine that the target SL RS combination associated with the second communication device 302 is triggered, for example, if the target SL RS combination is the only candidate SL RS combination for the device group or is the only candidate SL RS combination generated by the second communication device 302. In some embodiments, in accordance with a determination that the indication signal is received a frequency resource location on the shared spectrum, the first communication device 301 may perform the at least one SL RS transmission associated with the first communication device at the same frequency resource location as the indication signal.
[0125] In some embodiments, regarding the location of the indication signal, it may share a time-frequency resource of the first automatic gain control (AGC) symbol at a beginning of the slot (that initiates CO by a communication device for its SL RS transmission) in a TDM-ed mode. For example, the indication signal may occupy a half of the resource in time domain for the AGC symbol.
[0126] In some embodiments, the indication signal may share a time-frequency resource of the last guard period (GP) symbol before the beginning of the slot (that initiates CO by a communication device for its SL RS transmission) in a TDM-ed mode. For example, the indication signal may occupy a half of the resource in time domain for the GP symbol.
[0127] In some embodiments, the indication signal may occupy a complete symbol. For example, the indication signal may be inserted as a symbol before a starting SL RS in the slot within which the CO is initiated. The symbol of the indication signal may locate between PSCCH / PSSCH symbols and the starting SL RS in the slot.
[0128] In some embodiments, the indication signal may comprise a signal sequence known to communication devices in the device group. For example, the indication signal generation for a UE may be (pre) configured, or dynamically indicated, such as a pseudo random sequence like a S-SSB or zero-correlation (ZC) sequence, where S-SSB is sidelink synchronization signal and physical broadcast channel (PBCH) block.
[0129] The indication signal has a low decoding complexity and occupy the same frequency range as its adjacent symbol / signal. As such, the receiving communication device can easily capture the indication signal and quickly decode it in a short processing time. Especially, in some embodiments, the indication signal may be a SL RS immediately after the PSCCH / PSSCH within a slot that initiates a CO for the SL RS combination transmission. This SL RS also may be easily captured by the other UEs before the SCI in the slot is completely decoded.
[0130] By inserting the indication signal before the channel carrying SCI, even if the processing time Tp of some communication devices in the device group is not smaller than the predetermined duration Tg, they can still successfully decode the indication signal to determine that the target SL RS combination is triggered. In some embodiments, the indication signal is configured to be corresponding to CO sharing information related to the shared spectrum and a trigger of the target SL RS combination. Based on the reception of the indication signal, the channel occupancy information, such as the channel availability and COT staring time, may be deduced by the other communication device in the device group, and then remaining SL RSs in the target SL RS combination may be transmitted within the COT. In this way, those communication devices can still perform this SL RS transmissions according to the target SL RS combination correctly.
[0131] FIG. 6B illustrates an example 601 of channel access procedures for SL RS transmissions in accordance with some other embodiments of the present disclosure. In this example, UE0 successfully acquires CO of the resource pool within Channel Access Window0 and decides to trigger SL RS Combination0. UE0 may insert an indication signal in a symbol of AGC in the slot that initiates CO for SL RS Combination0.
[0132] In some embodiments, as mentioned above, the communication devices in the device group may perform simultaneous or parallel channel access procedures. In this case, the parallel channel access procedures may be performed by different communication devices in the device group on the same frequency range, e.g., in the same resource pool. For example, only one DRP with the same frequency bandwidth as a SL RS may be configured for SL RS transmissions of the device group.
[0133] In some embodiments, where a plurality of communication devices in the device group performs parallel channel access procedures on a same resource pool on the shared spectrum, if the processing time Tp is smaller than the predetermined duration Tg, cyclic prefix extensions (CPE) with different lengths are configured to the plurality of communication devices to be inserted before a first symbol in a slot that initiates CO of the resource pool on the shared spectrum. In some embodiments, CPEs with different lengths for the first symbol in the slot that initiates a CO may be configured to each UE in the group according to certain rule, such as based on the priorities of SL RSs or the priorities of SLPP transactions, or may be assigned by a certain device such as the group initiator device or group manager device in the device group.
[0134] FIG. 6C illustrate an example 602 of channel access procedures for SL RS transmissions. In this example, UE0 and UE1 performs parallel channel access procedures on the same resource pool on the shared spectrum, to attempt to acquire CO for SL RS Combination0 and SL RS Combination1, respectively. UE0 is configured with CPE0, and UE1 is configured with CPE1 which is has a larger length then CEP0. If UE0 successfully acquires CO on the resource pool, it may use CPE0 before the AGC symbol of the first slot. If UE1 successfully acquires CO on the resource pool, it may use CPE1 before the AGC symbol of the first slot.
[0135] In some embodiments, the indication signal may be inserted after the CPE and before the channel carrying the SCI in a slot in case that the processing time for decoding information related to the target SL RS combination from the SCI is not smaller than the predetermined duration. As illustrated in the example 603 of FIG. 6D, an indication is inserted after CPE0 or CEP1 (depending on whether UE0 or UE1 acquires CO) and before PSCCH which carries the SCI.
[0136] In some embodiments, if there are the different candidate frequency resources for SL RS transmissions from different communication devices in the device group, a plurality of communication devices in the device group may perform parallel channel access procedures on different resource pools or on the different frequency ranges in the same resource pool on the shared spectrum. In some embodiments, if the processing time Tp is smaller than the predetermined duration Tg, cyclic prefix extensions (CPEs) with different lengths may be configured to the plurality of communication devices to be inserted before a first symbol in a slot that initiates CO of the different resource pools or different frequency ranges of the shared spectrum. In addition, a common indication signal may be inserted after CPE and before the SCI in a slot that the processing time for decoding information related to the target SL RS combination from the SCI is not smaller than the predetermined duration. That is, if Tp is smaller than Tg, both CPEs with different lengths for different devices and a common indication signal for all devices may be introduced. The indication signal may share the time-frequency resource of the first AGC symbol at the beginning of the slot in a TDM-ed multiplexing manner, or it may share the time-frequency resource of the last GP symbol before the beginning of the slot in a TDM-ed multiplexing manner, such as half GP symbol resource. The content of CPE may be the (partial) repetition of the indication signal.
[0137] FIG. 6E illustrates an example 604 of channel access procedures for SL RS transmissions. In this example, UE0 and UE1 performs parallel channel access procedures, to attempt to acquire CO for SL RS Combination0 and SL RS Combination1, respectively. UE0 performs the channel access procedure on Resource Pool 0, while UE1 performs the channel access procedure on Resource Pool1. UE0 is configured with CPE0, and UE1 is configured with CPE1 which is has a larger length then CEP0. If UE0 successfully acquires CO on the resource pool, it may use CPE0 and insert a common indication signal before the AGC symbol of the first slot. If UE1 successfully acquires CO on the resource pool, it may use CPE1 and insert the common indication signal before the AGC symbol of the first slot.
[0138] In some embodiments where a plurality of communication devices in the device group performs parallel channel access procedures on different resource pools of the shared spectrum, in addition to different CPEs, different indication signals corresponding to the plurality of communication devices in the device group may be introduced. In some embodiments, each indication signal may have the similar physical characteristics, and thus different indication signals can be distinguished from each other by all receiving communication devices.
[0139] That is, different indication signals are configured to the plurality of communication devices to be inserted after CPE and before the channel carrying the SCI in a slot that the processing time for decoding information related to the target SL RS combination from the SCI is not smaller than the predetermined duration. In this case, based on reception of the indication signal, the receiving communication device can determine which communication device in the device group transmits the indication signal and shares the acquired CO of the resource pool. In this case, the receiving communication device can determine that the SL RS combination corresponding to the communication device transmitting the indication signal is triggered.
[0140] FIG. 6F illustrates an example 605 of channel access procedures for SL RS transmissions. If UE0 successfully acquires CO on the resource pool, it may use CPE0 and insert its indication signal (i.e., Indication Signal0) before the AGC symbol of the first slot. If UE1 successfully acquires CO on the resource pool, it may use CPE1 and insert its indication signal (i.e., Indication Signal1) before the AGC symbol of the first slot. In this case, the receiving communication device can determine whether SL RS Combination0 or SL RS Combination1 is triggered.

On the SL-PRS resource selection in this ISS, the determination of these parameters of may rely on both the (pre) configuration (which may be conveyed in assistance data transfer) and the sensed / indicated applicable resource (s) by DCI / SCI / MAC-CE. For the latter, there may have two ways to determine / indicate one or more SL-PRS parameter (s) as below.
[0146] The first way is to (pre) define the association between the SL-PRS parameter (s) and applicable resource (s) . The second way is to indicate the parameter (s) along with the time-frequency resource indication (may be as additional indication / information to legacy frequency resource allocation indication value (FRIV) and time resource allocation indication value (TRIV) , or as information within one of fields in a new DCI format / SCI format / MAC-CE.
[0147] It is also to be understood that both of above ways may be feasible to all embodiments of the present disclosure unless otherwise specified.
[0148] The scheme 2 resource allocation in legacy SL communication may be applied for positioning related resource allocation especially in OOC scenarios. A terminal device may autonomously determine (by sensed-based method and / or random-selecting-based method) the resource used in the intended positioning procedure, especially for the resource in the dedicated resource pool for SL-PRS transmission.
