Description

Display device and control method thereof

[0001] The present disclosure relates to a display device and a control method thereof. Specifically, the present disclosure relates to a display device for adjusting the size of a content image of an external display device connected to the display device via a hinge device, and a control method thereof.

[0002] Display systems of various forms are being developed and distributed. In particular, advancements in display technology, particularly those related to large-screen, high-resolution displays, have led to a diversification of screen sizes. The use of large-screen displays is also increasing in everyday life. In particular, modular display devices, which combine multiple displays to provide an expanded display screen, are on the rise. For example, large-screen display devices are installed in highly visible locations, such as subway stations and bus stops, and digital signage displays information through the display devices.

[0003] In the case of modular display devices, multiple display devices are connected through a hinge device so that they can be rotated (or folded). In this case, when the display device is folded depending on the usage environment and purpose, a problem occurs in which the user's visibility of the content image displayed on the display device rotated based on the hinge device is obstructed. This can also lead to a problem in which the user's sense of immersion in the content image is reduced.

[0004] A display device and a method for controlling the same are disclosed. Additional aspects will be disclosed in part in the following description, and in part will be obvious from the description or may be learned by practice of the embodiments presented.

[0005] According to one embodiment of the present disclosure, a display device includes a display, a first hinge device, and at least one processor. The at least one processor obtains a content image, and when a first external display device is connected to the display device through the first hinge device, obtains a first content image corresponding to a portion of the content image and a second content image corresponding to the remaining portion of the content image based on a resolution of the display device, controls the display to display the first content image, and provides the second content image to the first external display device. The first content image is identified based on the resolution of the display device. The at least one processor adjusts the size of the second content image provided to the first external display device according to the angle while maintaining the size of the first content image when an angle between the display device and the first external display device changes while displaying the first content image.

[0006] The at least one processor can obtain the first content image by identifying a direction corresponding to a location of the first external display device, identifying an area located in a direction opposite to the direction, and cropping the area to a size corresponding to a resolution of the display device.

[0007] The at least one processor can adjust the size of the second content image inversely according to the size of the angle.

[0008] The first hinge device is provided on a first side of the display device, and the display device may further include a second hinge device provided on a second side of the display device. The at least one processor may obtain the first content image by cropping the content image based on the number of external display devices connected to the display device and the resolution of the display device.

[0009] The at least one processor may adjust the width of the second content image based on the following equation.

[0010] Width of the video in the second content

[0011] X1 may be the horizontal ratio of the content image, X2 may be the horizontal ratio of the resolution of the display device, n may be the number of external display devices connected to the display device, α may be the angle between the display device and the first external display device, and min may be the minimum angle that the first external display device and the display device can form.

[0012] The at least one processor may, while displaying the first content image, identify the ratio of the content image when the angle changes, and, if the ratio is identified as being a preset ratio, maintain the size of the second content image based on the ratio.

[0013] The display device further includes a wheel that rotates as the first external display device rotates, and the at least one processor can identify the angle based on the number of rotations of the wheel.

[0014] The at least one processor can detect a resistance value of a resistor provided to the first hinge device and identify the angle based on the resistance value.

[0015] The at least one processor may detect an angle between the external display device and the display device and the first external display device when the first external display device is connected to the display device through the first hinge device, and may adjust the size of the second content image provided to the first external display device based on the angle when the angle is determined to be not a preset angle.

[0016] A method for controlling a display device according to one embodiment of the present disclosure includes the steps of: obtaining a content image; detecting a connection between a first external display device and the display device through a first hinge device; obtaining the first content image corresponding to a portion of the content image and a second content image corresponding to the remaining portion of the content image; displaying the first content image through a display of the display device; controlling the second content image to be provided to the first external display device so that the second content image is displayed on the first external display device; detecting a rotation of the first external display device relative to the display device while displaying the first content image; and adjusting a size of the second content image provided to the first external display device based on an angle by which the first external display device has moved while maintaining a size of the first content image, wherein the first content image is identified based on a resolution of the display device.

[0017] The obtaining step may include a step of identifying a direction corresponding to a location of the first external display device, a step of identifying an area of the content image located in a direction opposite to the direction, and a step of obtaining the first content image by cropping the area to a size corresponding to a resolution of the display device.

[0018] The above adjusting step may include a step of adjusting the size of the second content image inversely according to the size of the angle.

[0019] The control method may further include a step of detecting a connection between a second external display device and the display device via a second hinge device. The first hinge device may be provided on a first side of the display device, and the second hinge device may be provided on a second side of the display device. The obtaining step may include a step of obtaining the first content image by cropping the content image based on the number of external display devices connected to the display device and the resolution of the display device.

[0020] The above adjusting step may include a step of adjusting the width of the second content image based on the following equation.

[0021] Width of the video in the second content

[0022] X1 may be the horizontal ratio of the content image, X2 may be the horizontal ratio of the resolution of the display device, n may be the number of external display devices connected to the display device, α may be the angle between the display device and the first external display device, and min may be the minimum angle that the first external display device and the display device can form.

[0023] According to one embodiment of the present disclosure, a non-transitory computer-readable medium storing computer instructions that, when executed by a processor of a display device, cause the display device to perform an operation, the operations include: obtaining a content image; detecting a connection between a first external display device and the display device through a first hinge device; obtaining the first content image corresponding to a portion of the content image and a second content image corresponding to the remaining portion of the content image; displaying the first content image through a display of the display device; controlling the second content image to be provided to the first external display device so that the second content image is displayed on the first external display device; detecting a rotation of the first external display device relative to the display device while displaying the first content image; and adjusting a size of the second content image provided to the first external display device based on an angle by which the first external display device has moved while maintaining a size of the first content image. The first content image is identified based on a resolution of the display device.

[0024] According to one embodiment of the present disclosure, a display controller includes an interface connected to a display device and a first external display device, at least one processor configured to obtain a content image, and when the first external display device is connected to the display device through the first hinge device, obtain a first content image corresponding to a portion of the content image and a second content image corresponding to the remaining portion of the content image based on a resolution of the display device, provide the first content image to the display device, provide the second content image to the first external display device, and adjust a size of the second content image provided to the first external display device according to an angle between the display device and the first external display device while displaying the first content image, while maintaining a size of the first content image. The first content image is identified based on a resolution of the display device.

[0025] The at least one processor can obtain the first content image by identifying a direction corresponding to a location of the first external display device, identifying an area located in a direction opposite to the direction, and cropping the area to a size corresponding to a resolution of the display device.

[0026] The at least one processor can adjust the size of the second content image inversely according to the size of the angle.

[0027] The first hinge device is provided on a first side of the display device, and the display device may further include a second hinge device provided on a second side of the display device. The at least one processor may obtain the first content image by cropping the content image based on the number of external display devices connected to the display device and the resolution of the display device.

[0028] The at least one processor may, while displaying the first content image, identify the ratio of the content image when the angle changes, and, if the ratio is identified as being a preset ratio, maintain the size of the second content image based on the ratio.

[0045] In this specification, the term user may refer to a person using a display device or a device using a display device (e.g., an artificial intelligence display device).

[0046] An embodiment is described in more detail below with reference to the attached drawings.

[0047] Figure 1 is an exemplary diagram of a display device (100) according to one embodiment.

[0048] A display device (100) according to one embodiment may be connected to at least one external display device (200-A and 200-B, hereinafter, 200). The display device (100) being connected to at least one external display device (200) may be electrically and / or physically connected.

[0049] For example, the display device (100) can be physically coupled to an external display device (200) via hinge devices (400-A and 400-B, hereinafter, 400) to form a folding structure. Here, the folding structure may be a structure in which at least one of the display device (100) and the external display device (200) is connected to be rotatable about one side of the display device (100) to which the display device (100) and the external display device (200) are connected. In particular, in the folding structure, the angle formed by the display device (100) and the external display device (200) can be changed. Hereinafter, when the external display device (200) is folded, the external electronic device may rotate, so that the angle formed by the display device (100) and the external display device (200) can be changed. For example, the angle may be increased or decreased.

[0050] For example, the display device (100) may be electrically connected to an external display device (200) via a hinge device, and may transmit and receive electrical signals. Here, the electrical signals may include various data such as content image data. In addition, the display device (100) may also supply power to the external display device (200) via the hinge device (400).

[0051] In particular, the display device (100) can be connected to at least one external display device (200) via a hinge device (400). As a result, the display device (100) and at least one external display device (200) can rotate forward or backward around the hinge device (400). Hereinafter, for the convenience of explaining the invention, it will be described assuming that at least one external display device (200) rotates around the hinge device (400). That is, it will be described assuming that the display device (100) is fixed and at least one external display device (200) connected to the display device (100) rotates.

[0052] The display device (100) can be connected to a source device (300). In addition, the display device (100) can obtain a content source (e.g., content image, etc.) from the source device (300). The source device (300) can be connected to the display device (100) and provide data stored in the source device (300) or provided from an external source device to the display device (100).

[0053] The source device (300) may include at least one port to which various cables such as a power cable, an optical cable, an HDMI (High-Definition Multimedia Interface) cable, an RF (radio frequency) cable, a LAN (local area network) cable, and an HDMI cable can be connected. The source device (300) may be connected to a display device (100) via a cable connected to the port, or may be connected to an external source. Specifically, the source device (300) may be connected to various external sources such as a personal computer (PC), a set-top box, an OTT (Over-the-top media service) server, a video game console, a Blu-ray player, and a DVD player via a cable connected to at least one port. However, it is not limited thereto, and the source device (300) may be implemented as a PC, set-top box, OTT service (Over-the-top media service) server, video game console, Blu-ray player, DVD (digital video disk) player, etc. that directly provides content to the display device (100).

[0054] The source device (300) can be connected to the display device (100). Accordingly, even if the external source is not directly connected to the display device (100) through multiple connection lines, the display device (100) can receive content from various external sources through the source device (300). The source device (300) can be called by various names such as a one-connect box, a one-connect device, a source integration device, etc., but in the present disclosure, it will be referred to as the source device (300).

[0055] The display device (100) may be implemented as a device with a display function, such as a television, a smart TV, a monitor, etc. The display device (100) may display a content source (e.g., content image, etc.) received from a source device (300) through the display of the display device (100). At this time, the display device (100) may provide a portion of the content source to an external display device (200) connected to the display device (100) based on the size of the content source received from the source device (300).

[0056] For example, the display device (100) may provide a portion of the content image to the external display device (200) based on the size of the resolution of the content image. In particular, if the display device (100) determines that the size of the resolution of the content image does not match the resolution of the display device (100) and the size of the display, the display device (100) may provide the remaining portion of the image to the external display device (200) so that the remaining portion of the image, excluding the portion of the image that can be displayed on the display device (100), may be displayed on the external display device (200) connected to the display device (100).

[0057] For this purpose, the external display device (200) may also be implemented as a device with a display function, such as a TV, smart TV, or monitor.

[0058] The external display device (200) may be an independent device that can be used in combination with the display device (100) or used separately. In particular, the external display device (200) may display a portion of the content image received by the display device (100) as described above, or may display the same image as the content image received by the display device (100), depending on user input or a setting mode. Alternatively, the external display device (200) may display a separate image unrelated to the content image received by the display device (100), such as the same image or a portion of the content image.

[0059] In the following, it is assumed that the external display device (200) displays a portion of the content image received from the source device (300) by the display device (100).

[0060] Meanwhile, in that the display device (100) receives a content image from the source device (300) and then provides it to the external display device (200) or processes the acquired content image (specifically, obtains an image of a portion of the acquired content image) and provides it, the display device (100) may be referred to as the main display device (100) and the external display device (200) may be referred to as the sub-display device (100). The main display device (100) and the external display device (200) may be determined depending on whether they are connected to the source device (300) or may be determined based on the user's settings.

[0061] While the display device (100) and the external display device (200) are each displaying a portion of the same content image, the external display device (200) can be moved in one direction around the hinge device (400) by the user (or by a separate control command). For example, referring to FIG. 1, while the display device (100) displays the center portion (center image) of the content image, the external display device (200) connected to the left side of the display device (100) (hereinafter, the left external display device (200)) displays the left portion (left image) of the content image, and the external display device (200) connected to the right side of the display device (100) (hereinafter, the right external display device (200)) displays the right portion (right image) of the content image, the left external display device (200) can be rotated forward by the user. That is, the left external display device (200) can be folded.

[0062] At this time, as the left external display device (200-A) rotates toward the front, the left image of the left external display device (200-A) may be distorted. That is, a user positioned in front of the display device (100) may see a distorted left image of the left external display device (200-A). This interferes with the user's visibility of the left image, and ultimately reduces the user's sense of immersion in the entire image (i.e., the entire image displayed as the left image, the center image, and the right image).

[0063] Accordingly, when movement of an external display device (200) connected to the display device (100) is detected, the display device (100) of one embodiment adjusts the size of the content image displayed on the external display device (200) according to the movement (or folding) of the external display device (200). In particular, when the external display device (200) is folded, the display device (100) increases the size of the content image of the external display device (200), thereby reducing distortion of the content image displayed on the folded external display device (200). Hereinafter, an embodiment related to this will be described.

[0064] Meanwhile, in FIG. 1, multiple external display devices (200) are illustrated as being coupled to the left and right sides of the display device (100), but this is not limited thereto. For example, multiple external display devices (200) may be coupled in an upward direction to the display device (100). Alternatively, the display device (100) and at least one external display device (200) may be coupled in various coupling forms depending on the content image.

[0065] FIG. 2 is a schematic block diagram of a display device (100) according to one embodiment.

[0066] Referring to FIG. 2, the display device (100) includes a display (110), at least one connector (120) connected to a hinge device (400), and at least one processor (130). The description of the configuration illustrated in FIG. 2 can be equally applied to an external display device (200) other than the display device (100).

[0067] The display (110) displays various visual information (e.g., content images) under the control of at least one processor (130). Here, the content images may include images in various formats, such as text, still images, moving images, and GUI (Graphical User Interface). In particular, the display (110) may display content images received from the source device (300).

[0068] The display (110) may be implemented as a touch screen along with a touch panel. In this case, the display (110) may function as an output interface that outputs information between the display device (100) and the user, and may also function as an input interface between the display device (100) and the user.

[0069] The display (110) may be implemented as a display (110) of various forms, such as a liquid crystal display panel (LCD), a light emitting diode (LED), an organic light emitting diode (OLED), a liquid crystal on silicon (LCoS), a digital light processing (DLP), etc. The display (110) may additionally include additional components depending on its implementation method. For example, the display (110) may also include a driving circuit, a backlight, etc., which may be implemented in a form such as an amorphous silicon (a-si) thin-film transistor (TFT), a low temperature poly silicon (LTPS) TFT, an organic TFT (OTFT), etc.

[0070] At least one connector (120) can transmit an electrical signal to at least one display device (100) through a hinge device (400). To this end, the connector (120) can include a plurality of pogo pins, and the plurality of pogo pins can be made of a conductive metal. At this time, the display device (100) can be connected to the hinge device (400) through a cable (e.g., an HDMI cable, etc.) connected to at least one connector (120), and can be electrically connected to an external display device (200) through the hinge device (400).

[0071] The display device (100) may also include a plurality of connectors (120). At this time, the plurality of connectors (120) are formed and arranged on different sides of the display device (100), respectively, so that the display device (100) can be electrically connected to different external display devices (200) (and different hinge devices (400)). For example, the connector (120) arranged on the left side of the display device (100) can be connected to the hinge device (400) arranged on the left side of the display device (100), and the display device (100) can be connected to the external display device (200) arranged on the left side of the display device (100) through the hinge device (400). On the other hand, the connector (120) positioned on the right side of the display device (100) is connected to a hinge device (400) positioned on the right side of the display device (100), and the display device (100) can be connected to an external display device (200) positioned on the right side of the display device (100) through the hinge device (400).

[0072] The display device (100) may further include an interface (or connector (120)) that connects the display device (100) and the source device (300). At this time, the display device (100) is electrically connected to the source device (300) through a cable (e.g., an HDMI cable, etc.) connected to the interface (or connector (120)) and may receive various data, such as content images, from the source device (300). Meanwhile, the display device (100) may also receive data, such as content images, from the source device (300) through a communication interface.

[0073] The display device (100) may further include a housing. Here, the housing is configured to support the display device (100) and may include a bezel formed around the display (110). At this time, at least one connector (120) described above may be formed on a side surface of the housing.

[0074] At least one processor (130) may include one or more of a CPU (Central Processing Unit), a GPU (Graphics Processing Unit), an APU (Accelerated Processing Unit), a MIC (Many Integrated Core), a DSP (Digital Signal Processor), an NPU (Neural Processing Unit), a hardware accelerator, or a machine learning accelerator. At least one processor (130) may control one or any combination of other components of the display device (100), and may perform operations related to communication or data processing. At least one processor (130) may execute one or more programs or instructions stored in a memory. For example, at least one processor (130) may perform a method according to an embodiment by executing one or more instructions stored in a memory.

[0075] When a method according to an embodiment includes a plurality of operations, the plurality of operations may be performed by one processor or by a plurality of processors. For example, when a first operation, a second operation, and a third operation are performed by a method according to an embodiment, the first operation, the second operation, and the third operation may all be performed by the first processor, or the first operation and the second operation may be performed by the first processor (e.g., a general-purpose processor) and the third operation may be performed by the second processor (e.g., an artificial intelligence-dedicated processor).

[0076] At least one processor (130) may be implemented as a single core processor including one core, or may be implemented as one or more multicore processors including multiple cores (e.g., homogeneous multicores or heterogeneous multicores). When at least one processor (130) is implemented as a multicore processor, each of the multiple cores included in the multicore processor may include at least one internal memory of the processor (130), such as a cache memory or an on-chip memory, and a common cache shared by the multiple cores may be included in the multicore processor. In addition, each of the multiple cores (or some of the multiple cores) included in the multicore processor may independently read and execute a program instruction for implementing a method according to an embodiment, or all (or some) of the multiple cores may be linked to read and execute a program instruction for implementing a method according to an embodiment.

[0077] When a method according to an embodiment includes a plurality of operations, the plurality of operations may be performed by one core among the plurality of cores included in a multi-core processor, or may be performed by the plurality of cores. For example, when a first operation, a second operation, and a third operation are performed by a method according to an embodiment, the first operation, the second operation, and the third operation may all be performed by a first core included in the multi-core processor, or the first operation and the second operation may be performed by a first core included in the multi-core processor, and the third operation may be performed by a second core included in the multi-core processor.

[0078] In an embodiment, at least one processor (130) may mean a system on a chip (SoC) in which at least one processor and other electronic components are integrated, a single-core processor, a multi-core processor, or a core included in a single-core processor or a multi-core processor, wherein the core may be implemented as a CPU, a GPU, an APU, a MIC, a DSP, an NPU, a hardware accelerator, or a machine learning accelerator, but embodiments are not limited thereto. Hereinafter, at least one processor will be described by referring to it as a processor.

[0079] FIG. 3 is a flowchart schematically illustrating a method for controlling a display device (100) according to one embodiment. FIG. 4 is an exemplary diagram illustrating a display device (100) and an external display device (200) according to one embodiment separately displaying content images (10).

[0080] According to one embodiment, the processor (130) may detect that an external display device (200) is connected to at least one connector (120) via a hinge device (400) (S310).

[0081] Specifically, the processor (130) can detect that at least one connector (120) is connected to the hinge device (400). In addition, the processor (130) can detect that an external display device is connected to the same hinge device (400) through at least one connector (120). At this time, the hinge device (400) may include a plurality of connectors. The plurality of connectors provided in the hinge device (400) may be of the same type as the connectors (120) included in the display device (100) (and the external display device (200)).

[0082] Referring to FIG. 4, for example, the processor (130) can detect that a first connector (120-1) disposed on the left side of the display device (100) is electrically connected to a connector (120) of a hinge device (400). In addition, the processor (130) can detect that a connector disposed on the right side of an external display device (200-1) is electrically connected to another connector of the hinge device (400-1). To this end, a plurality of connectors of the hinge device (400-1) can be electrically connected. Accordingly, the processor (130) can be electrically connected to the external display device (200-1) through the hinge device (400-1) and transmit a content image (10) to the external display device (200-1). At this time, the processor (130) can identify the relative position of the external display device (200-1) with respect to the display device (100) based on the position of the connector (120-1) connected to the hinge device (400-1). That is, in FIG. 4, when the processor (130) detects that the external display device (200-1) is electrically connected to the external display device (200-1) through the first connector (120-1) disposed on the left side of the display device (100), the processor can identify that the external display device (200-1) is disposed on the left side of the display device (100).

[0083] And, the processor (130) can obtain a first content image (11) corresponding to a portion of the content image (10) based on the resolution of the display device (100), and obtain a second content image (12) corresponding to the remaining portion of the content image (10) (S320).

[0084] Specifically, the processor (130) can obtain a first content image (11) displayed on the display device (100) by cropping a portion of the content image (10) based on the resolution of the display device (100). Here, the resolution of the display device (100) is the number of pixels included in the display (110), and can correspond to the screen ratio of the display (110).

[0085] And, the processor (130) can identify the size of the content image (10). Here, the size of the content image (10) may be the resolution or screen ratio of the content image (10). For example, the processor (130) can identify the size of the content image (10) according to the standard of the content image (10) (e.g., VGA (Video Graphics Array), NTSC (National Television Standards Committee), ATSC (Advanced Television Systems Committee)-SD, PAL (Has Alternating Line) / SECAM, etc.). That is, when the processor (130) identifies that the content image (10) is VGA, it can identify the resolution of the content as 640 x 480 and the screen ratio of the content as 4:3.

[0086] And, the processor (130) can crop the content image (10) to a size corresponding to the resolution of the display device (100) based on the resolution of the identified display device (100) and the size of the content image (10). For example, referring to FIG. 4, when the resolution of the display device (100) is 1920 X 1080 and the screen ratio of the content image (10) is 21:9, the processor (130) can crop the content image (10) to a size with a ratio of 16:9. And, the processor (130) can identify the partial image (10-1) obtained by cropping the content image (10) to a size with a ratio of 16:9 as the first content image (11) displayed on the display device (100).

[0087] And, the processor (130) can identify the remaining partial image (10-2) excluding the first content image (11) from the content image (10) as the second content image (12) displayed on the external display device. Specifically, referring to FIG. 4, the processor (130) can identify the partial image (10-2) with a 5:9 ratio corresponding to the remaining portion excluding the first content image (11) cropped to a 16:9 ratio from the content image (10) with a 21:9 ratio as the second content image (12).

[0088] At this time, the processor (130) may crop the content image (10) based on the relative position of the external display device (200) with respect to the display device (100). Specifically, the processor (130) may determine an area to be cropped within the content image (10) based on the relative position of the external display device (200). Therefore, even if the content image (10) is the same, the first and second content images (11 and 12) may be different depending on the relative position of the external display device (200).

[0089] FIGS. 5A to 5C are exemplary diagrams showing separation of content images (10) based on the position and number of external display devices (200) for a display device (100) according to one embodiment.

[0090] For example, the processor (130) can identify an area located in a direction opposite to the direction corresponding to the position of the external display device (200) within the content image (10), and crop the identified area to a size corresponding to the resolution of the display device (100) to obtain a first content image (11) corresponding to a portion of the content image (10).

[0091] Specifically, when the display device (100) includes a plurality of connectors (120) (first and second connectors (120-1 and 120-2)) on the left side and the right side, respectively, the display device (100) can identify the relative position of the external display device with respect to the display device (100) based on the position of a connector (120) detected to be connected to the external display device among the plurality of connectors (120). The first and second connectors (120-1 and 120-2) can be connected to separate hinge devices (first and second hinge devices (400-1 and 400-2), respectively.

[0092] Referring to FIG. 5A, as the external display device (200-1) is electrically connected to the first connector (120-1) of the display device (100), the display device (100) can identify that the external display device (200-1) is positioned on the left side of the display device (100). Accordingly, the processor (130) can crop the content image (10) on the right side opposite to the left side to a size corresponding to the resolution of the display device (100) and obtain the first content image (11). In addition, the processor (130) can obtain the remaining image of the content image (10), that is, the left part image (the left part image with a size of a 5:9 ratio) (10-2) of the content image (10), as the second content image (12).

[0093] Referring to FIG. 5b, as the external display device (200-2) is electrically connected to the second connector (120-2) of the display device (100), the display device (100) can identify that the external display device (200-2) is positioned on the right side of the display device (100). Accordingly, the processor (130) can crop the content image (10) on the left side opposite to the right side to a size corresponding to the resolution of the display device (100) and obtain the first content image (11). Then, the processor (130) can obtain the remaining image of the content image (10), that is, the right part image (right part image with a size of a 5:9 ratio) (10-2) of the content image (10), as the second content image (12).

[0094] The processor (130) can crop the content image (10) based on the number of external display devices (200) connected to the display device (100). Specifically, the processor (130) can determine an area to be cropped within the content image (10) based on the number of external display devices (200) connected to the display device (100).

[0095] For example, the processor (130) may obtain a first content image (11) by cropping the content image (10) based on the number of external display devices (200) connected through at least one of the first and second connectors (120-1 and 120-2) and the resolution of the display device (100).

[0096] Referring to FIG. 5c, when the processor (130) detects that external display devices (200-1 and 200-2) are connected to the first and second connectors (120-1 and 120-2), respectively, the processor (130) may determine the area to be cropped within the content image (10) as the central area. For example, the area to be cropped within the content image (10) may be the central area of the content image (10). That is, the processor (130) may determine the area to be cropped differently in order to obtain the first content image (11) within the content image (10) depending on the number of external display devices (200) connected to the display device (100). In particular, the processor (130) may also consider the positions of a plurality of external display devices (200) connected to the display device (100) to determine the area to be cropped within the content image (10).

[0097] That is, referring to FIG. 5C, the processor (130) can identify that the number of external display devices (200-1 and 200-2) connected to the display device (100) is two, and that each external display device (200-1 and 200-2) is connected to the left and right sides of the display device (100), respectively. Accordingly, the processor (130) can crop the central area of the content image (10) to a size corresponding to the resolution of the display device (100) and obtain the first content image (11). In addition, the processor (130) can obtain the left partial image (10-2-a) with a size of a 2.5:9 ratio and the right partial image (10-2-b) with a size of a 2.5:9 ratio as the second content image (12) of each external display device.

[0098] The processor (130) displays the first content image (11) acquired through the display (110) (S330), and transmits the second content image (12) to an external display device (200) through the connector (120) so that the second content image (12) corresponding to the remaining portion of the content image (10) is displayed (S340).

[0099] The processor (130) can control the display (110) to display the first content image (11). The processor (130) can transmit the second content image (12) to the external display device (200) through the connector (120). Specifically, the second content image (12) can be transmitted to the external display device through the connector of the hinge device (400) connected to the connector (120) of the display device (100) and the connector of the external display device connected to another connector of the hinge device (400).

[0100] Accordingly, the content image (10) can be displayed on the display device (100) and the external display device (200). Specifically, referring to FIG. 4, a first content image (11), which is a part of the content image (10), can be displayed on the display device (100), and a second content image (12), which is another part of the content image (10), can be displayed on the external display device (200-1) located on the left side of the display device (100). Accordingly, a user can view the entire content image (10) through the display device (100) and the external display device (200-1).

[0101] Referring to FIG. 4, when the external display device (200-1) has the same resolution as the display device (100), the external display device (200-1) may include a blank area (or region) (20) where the content image (10) (i.e., the second content image (12)) is not displayed. Specifically, the second content image (12) displayed on the external display device (200-1) is the remaining image except for the first content image (11) obtained by cropping based on the resolution of the display device (100) among the content images (10) (specifically, the resolution of the display device (100) having the same resolution as the external display device (200-1), so the size of the second content image (12) may not clearly match that of the external display device (200-1). Therefore, the display (110) of the external display device (200-1) may display a blank area (20) where the second content image (12) is not displayed. In particular, the blank area (20) may be displayed as a black-colored image. However, this is not limited thereto, and a separate content image (10) may be displayed in the blank area (20) by an external display device (200-1).

[0102] The blank area (20) displayed on the display (110) of the external display device (200-1) can be displayed on the external display device (200-1) by combining the acquired second content image (12) and a black-colored image with the processor (130) of the display device (100) and providing the combined image to the external display device (200-1). Alternatively, the processor (130) of the external display device (200-1), which receives the second content image (12) from the processor (130) of the display device (100), may identify the size of the blank area (20) based on the size of the second content image (12) and the resolution of the external display device (200-1), generate a black-colored image corresponding to the blank area (20), and then display the generated image together with the second content image (12). However, the present invention is not limited thereto, and the image corresponding to the blank area (20) may be replaced with various types of images.

[0103] While displaying the first content image (11), the processor (130) can detect movement of the external display device (200) based on the hinge device (400) (S350).

[0104] Specifically, the processor (130) can detect that the external display device (200) is folded toward the display device (100). In particular, when the processor (130) detects that the external display device (200) moves toward the front with respect to the hinge device (400) (i.e., the angle formed by the display device (100) and the external display device (200) is 180° with respect to the hinge device (400), the processor (130) can detect that the external display device (200) is folded.

[0105] When the processor (130) detects that the external display device (200) is folded while the display device (100) is displaying the first content image (11), the processor (130) can determine the size of the second content image (12) displayed on the external display device (200).

[0106] And, the processor (130) can adjust the size of the second content image (12) based on the angle at which the external display device (200) moves while maintaining the size of the first content image (11) (S360).

[0107] Specifically, the user may be able to recognize different properties within the content image (10) depending on the viewing angle. For example, when the viewing angle is 5° to 10°, the user may be able to recognize and identify text within the content image (10). In addition, when the viewing angle is 5° to 30°, the user may be able to recognize and identify shapes within the content image (10). In addition, when the viewing angle is 30° to 60°, the user may be able to recognize and identify colors within the content image (10). In the case of the viewing angle is 62° to 94°, the user may be able to recognize and identify the movement of objects within the content image (10). In the case of a modular display device (100) in which a plurality of display devices (100) are combined, the angle formed by the plurality of display devices (100) is related to the user's viewing angle. That is, as the angle formed by the plurality of display devices (100) increases, the user's viewing angle also increases, and as the angle formed by the plurality of display devices (100) decreases, the user's viewing angle also decreases. Therefore, the processor (130) detects a change in angle between the display device (100) and an external display device (200) connected to the display device (100), and adjusts the size of the content image (10) displayed on the external display device (200) so that the user's recognizable properties at the user's viewing angle corresponding to the changed angle can be more clearly recognized within the content image (10).That is, when movement of the external display device (200) is detected based on the hinge device (400) while displaying the first content image (11), the processor (130) identifies the angle formed by the display device (100) and the external display device (200) based on the angle by which the external display device (200) moves (the angle by which the external display device (200) rotates), and adjusts the size of the second content image (12) displayed on the external display device (200) based on the user's viewing angle corresponding to the identified angle (i.e., the angle formed by the display device (100) and the external display device (200).

[0108] In particular, while displaying the first content image (11), the processor (130) can identify that the user's viewing angle for the second content image (12) of the external display device (200) has decreased while maintaining the user's viewing angle for the first content image (11) of the display device (100) as the external display device (200) moves with respect to the display device (100) and the hinge device (400). Accordingly, the processor (130) can adjust only the size of the second content image (12) displayed on the external display device (200) and maintain the size of the first content image (11) displayed on the display device (100). This is because the display device (100) remains fixed, and thus the user's viewing angle for the display device (100) is maintained.

[0109] At this time, the size of the second content image (12) can be adjusted according to the angular range formed by the display device (100) and the external display device (200) in response to the viewing angle range corresponding to the recognizable attribute in the above-described content image (10).

[0110] According to one embodiment, the processor (130) may adjust the size of the second content image (12) in inverse proportion to the angle formed by the external display device (200) and the display device (100) with respect to the hinge device (400). Specifically, the processor (130) may increase the size of the second content image (12) as the folding degree of the external display device (200) increases (i.e., the rotation angle of the external display device (200) increases). That is, the processor (130) may adjust the size of the second content image (12) in proportion to the movement angle (i.e., rotation angle) of the external display device (200).

[0111] FIGS. 6A and 6B are exemplary diagrams showing adjusting the size of a second content image (12) according to a rotation angle of an external display device (200) according to one embodiment.

[0112] Specifically, referring to FIG. 6A, the processor (130) can increase the size of the width of the second content image (12) of the external display device (200) more when the external display device (200) is rotated 45° further with respect to the hinge device (400) than when the external display device (200) is rotated 30° with respect to the hinge device (400). In this case, the processor (130) can maintain the size of the first content image (11) displayed on the display device (100) as is regardless of the rotation angle of the external display device (200).

[0113] The processor (130) can increase the size of the second content image (12) by increasing the width of the second content image (12). Accordingly, by displaying the second content image (12), the blank area (20) displayed on the display (110) of the external display device (200) can be reduced as the size of the second content image (12) increases.

[0114] According to one embodiment, the processor (130) may adjust the width of the second content image (12) displayed on the external display device (200) based on the following equation 1.

[0115] Width of the video in the second content

[0116] (Formula 1)

[0117] Here, X1 is a horizontal pixel value of the resolution of the content image (10) (or a horizontal ratio of the content image (10)), X2 is a horizontal pixel value of the resolution of the display device (100) (or a horizontal ratio of the resolution of the display device (100)), n is the number of external display devices (200) connected to the display device (100), α is a rotation angle of the external display device (200) based on the hinge device (400), and min is a minimum angle that the external display device (200) and the display device (100) can form based on the hinge device (400).

[0118] Specifically, referring to FIG. 6A, when the external display device (200) rotates 30° with respect to the hinge device (400), the screen ratio of the content image (10) is 21:9, the resolution ratio of the display device (100) is 16:9 (i.e., when the resolution is 1920 X 1080), and the minimum angle that the external display device (200) and the display device (100) can form is 90°, the processor (130) can adjust the horizontal ratio (i.e., the ratio corresponding to the width) of the second content image (12) to 6.67 (((21 - 16) / 1 x (1 + 30° / 90°)). That is, the processor (130) can adjust the second content image (12) with a size of a ratio of 5:9 being displayed on the external display device (200) to a size of a ratio of 6.67:9.

[0119] On the other hand, referring to FIG. 6b, when the external display device (200) is rotated 45° based on the hinge device (400), the screen ratio of the content image (10) is 21:9, the resolution ratio of the display device (100) is 16:9 (i.e., when the resolution is 1920 X 1080), and the minimum angle that the external display device (200) and the display device (100) can form is 90°, the processor (130) can adjust the horizontal ratio (i.e., the ratio corresponding to the width) of the second content image (12) to 7.5 (((21 - 16) / 1 x (1 + 45° / 90°)). That is, the processor (130) can adjust the second content image (12) having a size of a ratio of 5:9 displayed on the external display device (200) to a size of a ratio of 7.5:9.

[0120] That is, the processor (130) can adjust the size of the second content image (12) in proportion to the movement angle (i.e., rotation angle) of the external display device (200).

[0121] FIG. 7 is an exemplary diagram showing adjusting the size of each second content image (12) according to the rotation angle of a plurality of external display devices (200) according to one embodiment.

[0122] Meanwhile, when the processor (130) detects that each of the external display devices (200-1 and 200-2) has moved relative to each of the hinge devices (400) while the display device (100) is displaying the first content image (11) through the display (110) when the display device (100) is connected to a plurality of external display devices (200-1 and 200-2), the processor (130) can adjust the size of the second content image (12) displayed on each of the external display devices (200-1 and 200-2) based on the angle at which each of the external display devices (200-1 and 200-2) has moved.

[0123] Referring to FIG. 7, while the processor (130) displays the first content image (11) with a 16:9 ratio size through the display (110), the processor (130) can detect movement of external display devices (200-1 and 200-2) that are displaying the left portion image with a 2.5:9 ratio size and the right portion image with a 2.5:9 ratio size, respectively. For example, if it is detected that an external display device (hereinafter, a first external display device (200-1)) connected to the left side of the display device (100) through the first hinge device (400) rotates 9° with respect to the first hinge device (400-1) and an external display device (hereinafter, a second external display device (200-2)) connected to the right side of the display device (100) through the second hinge device (400) rotates 60° with respect to the second hinge device (400-2), the processor (130) can adjust the size of the second content image (12) being displayed on each of the external display devices (200-1 and 200-2) based on the angle by which each of the external display devices (200-1 and 200-2) rotates. Specifically, when the screen ratio of the content image (10) is 21:9, the resolution ratio of the display device (100) is 16:9 (i.e., when the resolution is 1920 X 1080), and the minimum angle that each external display device (200) and the display device (100) can form is 90°, the processor (130) can adjust the horizontal ratio (i.e., the ratio corresponding to the width) of the second content image (12) being displayed on the first external display device (200-1) to 2.75 (((21 - 16) / 2 x (1 + 9° / 90°)). On the other hand, the horizontal ratio (i.e., the ratio corresponding to the width) of the second content image (12) being displayed on the second external display device (200-2) can be adjusted to 4.17 (((21 - 16) / 2 x (1 + 60° / 90°)). That is, The processor (130) displays 2 on the first external display device (200-1).The second content image (12) with a 5:9 ratio can be adjusted to a 2.75:9 ratio, and the second content image (12) with a 2.5:9 ratio being displayed on the second external display device (200-2) can be adjusted to a 4.17:9 ratio. At this time, the processor (130) can maintain the size of the first content image (11) being displayed on the display device (100) as it is. In addition, the processor (130) can transmit the second content image (12) with each adjusted size to the first and second external display devices through connectors (i.e., the first and second connectors) connected to the respective external display devices.

[0124] The processor (130) may not adjust the size of the second content image (12) for an external display device that has not moved among the plurality of external display devices (the first and second external display devices (200-1 and 200-2)).

[0125] According to one embodiment, when movement of an external display device (200) is detected with respect to a hinge device (400) while displaying a first content image (11), the processor (130) identifies a ratio of the content image (10), and when the identified ratio is determined to be a preset ratio, the processor may maintain the size of the second content image (12) without adjusting it.

[0126] Specifically, while the processor (130) is displaying the first content image (11), even if movement of the external display device (200) is detected based on the hinge device (400), if the ratio of the content image (10) is identified as matching a preset ratio, the size of the second content image (12) may not be adjusted. Here, the ratio of the content image (10) may be a size ratio of the content image (10).

[0127] In particular, if the processor (130) identifies that the ratio of the entire content image (10) is proportional to the sum of the resolutions of the display device (100) and the external display device (200) connected to the display device (100), the processor (130) may maintain the size of the second content image (12) without adjusting it. That is, if the processor (130) identifies that the size of the second content image (12) can no longer be increased based on the resolution of the display (110) of the external display device (200), the processor (130) may not adjust the size of the second content image (12) even if movement of the external display device (200) is detected.

[0128] According to one embodiment, the processor (130) may transmit the resized second content image (12) to an external display device (200) via the connector (120) so that the resized second content image (12) is displayed (S370).

[0129] That is, the processor (130) can transmit the resized second content image (12) to the external display device (200) through the connector (120) so that the external display device (200) can display the resized second content image (12) from the existing second content image (12). Accordingly, the resized second content image (12) can be displayed on the external display device (200) moved based on the hinge device (400), and the user can more clearly recognize the properties within the second content image (12) within the changed viewing angle.

[0130] The processor (130) can identify the movement angle (i.e., rotation angle) of the external display device (200) in real time during the process of moving the hinge device (400) and gradually adjust the size of the second content image (12) according to the identified movement angle and transmit it to the external display device (200) through the connector (120). Accordingly, during the process of moving the external display device (200), the user can view the second content image (12) whose size gradually increases through the external display device (200), and through this, the display device (100) can minimize the user's viewing angle obstruction due to the folding of the external display device (200).

[0131] When the processor (130) detects that an external display device (200) is connected to at least one connector (120) via a hinge device (400), the processor (130) can detect an angle formed by the external display device (200) and the display device (100) with respect to the hinge device (400). That is, the processor (130) can identify an angle formed by the external display device and the display device (100) with respect to the hinge device (400) when the display device (100) and the external display device (200) are initially connected.

[0132] At this time, if the processor (130) identifies that the detected angle is not a preset angle, it can adjust the size of the second content image (12) corresponding to the remaining portion of the content image (10) based on the detected angle.

[0133] Specifically, the preset angle may be 180° formed by the external display device (200) and the display device (100) when the external display device (200) and the display device (100) are arranged in parallel so as to face each other. At this time, when the processor (130) detects that the external display device (200) is connected to the display device (100), if it is determined that the angle formed by the external display device (200) and the display device (100) is not 180°, the processor (130) may adjust the size of the second content image (12) based on the angle formed by the external display device (200) and the display device (100). That is, when the processor (130) detects that the external display device (200) is connected to the display device (100), the processor (130) can adjust the size of the acquired second content image (12) (i.e., the remaining images excluding the first content image (11) acquired based on the resolution of the display device (100) among the content images (10)) based on the angle formed by the external display device (200) and the display device (100). Since the method for adjusting the size of the second content image (12) can be equally applied to the above-described embodiment, a detailed description thereof will be omitted.

[0134] At this time, the processor (130) is installed in the hinge device (400) and detects the resistance value of the resistance that bends in the direction of movement of the external display device (200) as the hinge device (400) rotates, and based on the detected resistance value, can identify the angle formed by the external display device (200) and the display device (100).

[0135] Specifically, the hinge device (400) may include a resistor that bends in the direction in which the external display device (200) rotates as the external display device (200) connected to the hinge device (400) rotates relative to the hinge device (400), and a sensor that senses the resistance value of the resistor may be provided. At this time, the sensor may detect the resistance value of the bent resistor by bending the resistor in the direction in which the external display device (200) rotates as the external display device (200) rotates relative to the hinge device (400). Then, the processor (130) may identify the angle formed by the external display device (200) and the display device (100) based on the resistance value detected by the sensor. That is, the processor (130) may identify the angle formed by the external display device (200) and the display device (100) corresponding to the resistance value of the bent resistor. For this purpose, a matching table of the resistance value of the bent resistor and the angle formed by the external display device (200) and the display device (100) may be stored in the memory of the display device (100).

[0136] The processor (130) can transmit the resized second content image (12) to the external display device (200) through the connector (120) so that the resized second content image (12) is displayed. Accordingly, the processor (130) can provide a content image (10) appropriate for the user's viewing angle corresponding to the angle formed by the display device (100) and the external display device (200), even when the display device (100) and the external display device (200) are initially connected (or combined).

[0137] According to one embodiment, the processor (130) may detect the rotation of a wheel installed in the external display device (200) and rotate according to the movement of the external display device (200), and identify the angle by which the external display device (200) has moved based on the detected number of rotations of the wheel.

[0138] FIG. 8 is a drawing for explaining a wheel device provided in an external display device (200) according to one embodiment.

[0139] According to FIG. 8, the wheel device (500) may include a wheel (510) and a rocker (520). The wheel device (500) may be positioned at the bottom of the external display devices (200-1 and 200-2), and the wheel device (500) enables movement of the external display devices (200-1 and 200-2).

[0140] The wheel (510) may be composed of multiple locking grooves (511) and multiple protrusions (512). When an external force is applied to the wheel (510), the wheel (510) rotates clockwise or counterclockwise. Through this wheel movement, the external display device can move at a predetermined angle, as shown in FIG. 8.

[0141] At this time, if the folding angle of the external display device is not changed and the folding angle is maintained, and no external force is applied to the wheel (510), the locker (520) of the wheel device (500) can lock the wheel (510) so that the wheel (510) does not rotate any further. The rotation of the wheel (510) can be prevented by the latch (521) of the locker (520) being inserted into the locking groove (511) existing between the plurality of protrusions (512) of the wheel (510). However, when an external force is applied to the wheel (510), the latch (521) of the locker (520) is not inserted into the locking groove (511) because it is pushed by the plurality of protrusions (512) due to the rotation of the wheel (510), and the wheel (510) continues to rotate in the direction of the external force.

[0142] The wheel device (500) may include a sensor that detects the rotation of the wheel (510). For example, a switch may be attached to a protrusion (512) of the wheel (510), so that the protrusion (512) may contact a latch (521) according to the rotation of the wheel (510), thereby detecting the on / off of the switch. By detecting the number of times the wheel has been turned on / off and the direction of rotation, it is possible to detect how many clicks the wheel (510) has rotated in which direction.

[0143] Detection of rotation through a switch is only one example, and rotation of the wheel (510) can be detected by various sensors such as an acceleration sensor, a magnetic sensor, and an optical sensor.

[0144] Information about the rotation of the wheel (510) detected by the wheel device (500) may be provided as an electrical signal to the processor (130) of the display device (100). For example, the processor (130) may receive information about the rotation of the wheel (510) from an external display device. Through this, the processor (130) may obtain information about the rotation angle of the wheel (510) and identify the angle by which the external display device (200) has moved based on the rotation angle.

[0145] The processor (130) may be installed in the hinge device (400) and may identify the movement angle of the external display device (200) based on the resistance value of the resistor that bends in the movement direction of the external display device (200) as the hinge device (400) rotates. Specifically, when the processor (130) detects that the display device (100) and the external display device (200) are connected via the connector (120), the processor (130) may identify the resistance value of the resistor installed in the hinge device (400) as the initial resistance value. Then, when the processor (130) determines that the resistance value of the resistor installed in the hinge device (400) has changed based on the initial resistance value, the processor (130) may identify the rotation angle of the external display device (200) based on the identified resistance value. The resistance value of the resistor may be obtained from a sensor provided in the hinge device (400). In this regard, since the above-described embodiment can be equally applied, a detailed description thereof will be omitted.
