Abstract
Description
METHOD FOR CONFIGURING THE DISPLAYING OF A DIGITAL PICTURE BY A PLURALITY OF MOBILE TERMINALSTECHNICAL FIELD
[0001] The invention relates to the configuring of the displaying of a digital picture by a plurality of mobile terminals, and more specifically, by a plurality of mobile terminals located in a spatial area.
[0002] TECHNICAL BACKGROUND
[0003] During sporting events, for example during soccer games, the public attending the soccer game in persons interacts with the soccer players via different ways. For example, the public can organize a tifo which consists in a visual display of any choreographed flag, sign or banner in the stands of the stadium. Sometimes the tifo consists in a combination of several flags, signs, banners, soccer jerseys worn by the public, said combination constructing a big picture. However, a tifo is difficult to implement and requires adapted flags, signs or banners. It is also not very dynamic.
[0004] Moreover, it is known to connect together several televisions, in a static way, to display a large graphic display. It may for example be used for advertisement. However, these televisions cannot be used by the public to encourage the players.
[0005] There is consequently a need for allowing better and easy interactions between an audience and performers during a public event, such as between supporters and athletes during a sporting event.

[0044] System
[0045] With reference to figure 1, there is provided a system 100 for configuring the displaying of a digital picture by a plurality of mobile terminals 1, the system 100 comprising a plurality of mobile terminals 1 and at least one server 2.
[0046] Each mobile terminal 1 is an electronic device, typically a smartphone, a tablet, a digital camera or any other personal terminal of a user. It comprises at least a processing unit 10 (typically a processor) and a storage unit 16 (amemory, for instance flash memory) .
[0047] The mobile terminals 1 may be different from each other. For example, a first mobile terminal 1 may be a smartphone and a second mobile terminal may be a tablet.
[0048] Each mobile terminal 1 may preferably comprise a GPS unit or any unit allowing geolocation of said mobile terminal 1.
[0049] Each mobile terminal 1 may also comprise at least one light emitting unit 12, 14, which is configured to emit a light signal. Alternatively, such a light emitting unit 12, 14 may be a peripheral device, not embedded with but connectable to the mobile terminal 1.
[0050] In a first embodiment, the light emitting unit may be a display interface 14 (typically a screen, possibly touch sensitive) configured to display images or videos.
[0051] In another embodiment, which can be combined with the previous one, the light emitting unit may be a flashlight unit 12 configured to emit a flashlight or a flow of flashlights. A flow of flashlights corresponds to a series of flashlights, emitted according to a given scheme, which may be periodic or not. In case it is periodic, the series may be characterized by its period or frequency. The flashlight unit may be positioned, for example, on a front face of the mobile terminal 1, that is to say on the same face on which the display interface 14 is positioned, as illustrated in figure 1. The flashlight unit maybe also be positioned on an opposing face of the front face. Typically, the flashlight unit is positioned next to a camera lens of the mobile terminal 1. The mobile terminal 1 may comprise several flashlight units. For example, the mobile terminal 1 may comprise a flashlight unit on the front face of the mobile terminal 1 and on the opposing face of the front face of the mobile terminal 1.
[0052] The system 100 comprises a server 2 comprising a processing unit 20. The processing unit 20 of the server is configured to communicate with the mobile terminals 1. The processing unit 20 of the server 2 preferably comprises a storage unit 46 such as a memory.
[0053] The processing unit 20 of the server 2 and the processing units 10 of mobile terminals 1 are configured to communicate with each other. More precisely, the processing unit 10 of the mobile terminal 1 is configured to receive data from the server 2, for instance instructions to emit a light signal. Also, the processing unit 20 of the server 2 is configured to receive data from the processing units 10 of the mobile terminals 1, for instance information regarding the location of the mobile terminals 1.
[0054] The processing unit 20 of the server 2 and the processing units 10 of the mobile terminals 1 may for example be configured to communicate via a network (for example WiFi, Bluetooth or a mobile network, in particular a GSM, UMTS, LTE and 5G network) .
[0055] Method
[0056] A method, implemented by the processing unit 20 of the server 2, for configuring the displaying of a digital picture by a plurality of mobile terminals 1 is illustrated in figure 2. Said method may be performed as a step for configuring the displaying of a digital picture by a plurality of mobile terminals 1 in a method for displaying a digital picture using a plurality of mobile terminals 1.
[0057] The digital picture preferably illustrates an element of a message to be communicated to someone or to several persons. In a certain embodiment, the digital picture is bound to be displayed in a stadium so that players such as soccer players, or live performers such as musicians, can see it. The digital picture may be destined to be displayed as a tifo, which is well-known in the field of soccer games.
[0058] Advantageously, the digital picture is a part of a bigger digital picture comprising several digital pictures. In other words, the digital picture is preferably destined to be displayed along with other digital pictures to display the bigger digital picture.
[0059] The digital picture comprises a matrix of pixels. A pixel of the digital picture is the smallest addressable element in the digital picture to which an intensity (of colour or of grey) is assigned. The pixels advantageously form a partition of the digital picture. In other words, the pixels do not overlap with each other.
[0060] The digital picture comprises a content to be displayed. The content may comprise a shape, letter, number, text and / or symbol. The content may comprise a pattern, that is to say any design or drawing. For example, the content may comprise the name, one letter of the name, or the logo of a sports team. The digital picture may for example comprise an element of encouraging sentences that fans could communicate to their idol or favourite team. In other words, the digital picture may comprise a letter or a word of a sentence, other digital pictures comprising another letter or another word of the sentence, the bigger digital picture corresponding to the sentence.
[0061] The digital picture may be coloured or uncoloured. By “uncoloured” , it is meant that the digital picture is in black and white. The digital picture can be a video. The digital picture may also be a dynamic picture. For example, the digital picture may be a word which, when displayed, blinks.
[0062] The digital picture may be stored in the storage unit 26 of the server 2.
[0063] In an embodiment, the digital picture, or the bigger digital picture comprising a plurality of digital pictures, is chosen or created by someone who is called an organizer. The organizer preferably accesses an organizing portal on an electronic device (for example a smartphone, a laptop, a tablet, etc…) which allows him to choose or create a digital picture to be displayed during, for example, an upcoming event such as a soccer game. The organizing portal may be accessed, for example, via an http (s) address or via a specific mobile application. To access the organizing portal, the organizer preferably uses identifiers to log in to the organizing portal (meaning that the organizer has previously registered an account) .
[0064] Then, the organizer may choose or create a digital picture for an event. For example, the organizer may be the manager of a stadium and may set up one or several digital pictures to be displayed during a particular event occurring in said stadium. The organizer may also be the organizer of a fan group of a team, of a singer, of an idol, etc. The organizer may enter text into a dedicated field on the organizing portal and the text may be converted into an image, for example by a processing unit of the electronic device of the organizer or by the processing unit 20 of the server 2, using a text-to-image algorithm. The image obtained is the digital picture which may be stored in the storage unit 26 of the server 2.
[0065] Alternatively, the organizer may upload an image on the organizing portal and may select said image to be the digital picture, the image will then be uploaded on the server 2 and stored in the storage unit 26 of the server 2. Advantageously, said image is processed by a processing unit of the electronic device of the organizer to be more suitable for the displaying according to the method. By processed, it is for example meant that said image may be resized, pixelated or colours may be reduced.
[0066] Alternatively, the organizer may enter on the organizing portal some features about the event, for example which teams will be competing. Then, a set of images may be suggested according to this feature (for example, a suggested image may represent the flag of the country of one of the teams competing in the considered event) and the organizer may select an image among said set to be the digital picture.
[0067] As illustrated in figure 2, the method comprises a step (a) wherein the processing unit 20 of the server 2 receives from each of a plurality of mobile terminals 1 an information regarding the location of each mobile terminal 1. To this end, this information needs to be generated.
[0068] The plurality of mobile terminals 1 is located in a spatial area such as a stadium, a theatre or an opera. Preferably, the spatial area is a place designed to welcome people, for instance for an event. The spatial area preferably comprises a stage or a pitch where artists or athletes can perform. Each of the mobile terminals 1 is situated in a location of the spatial area.
[0069] By “location” it is meant a part of the spatial area, preferably where someone or several persons may be present (standing, sitting, lying down…) . The spatial area comprises a plurality of locations forming a partition of said spatial area. In other terms, the locations do not overlap with each other.
[0070] For example, the locations of a stadium, a theatre or an opera may be seats. In this example, a location, i.e., a seat, can only accommodate one person. Preferably, the pattern according to which a plurality of seats of the spatial area, i.e. a part of the spatial area, is positioned has a similar shape and similar dimensions to the shape and dimensions of the digital picture. To rephrase, if the digital picture is rectangular and has a length which is two times greater than the width, the considered plurality of seats will preferably form a rectangular shape having a length which is two times greater than the width.
[0071] The locations may be defined by coordinates in a coordinate system associated with the area. For example, the location may be defined by GPS coordinates.
[0072] In another embodiment, the location may be defined by a location code. For example, the location code may comprise an identifier which may be written on said location, for example on a point of the ground or on a seat. The identifier may also be written on a ticket, the ticket being associated with a location of the area, for example a seat in a theatre. The location code may be an alphanumeric code or any other types of code such as a QR code.
[0073] In an embodiment, the method comprises a step (a01) wherein the user of the mobile terminal 1 enters a location code on the mobile terminal 1. The location code may be, as already explained, for example written on a ticket which may be a ticket to attend an event such as a soccer game.
[0074] The location code may be entered in a specific field of a spectator portal, for example a website, implemented for the performing of the method. The website may be available via any known ways such a https address that the user can enter in a browser of its mobile terminal 1 to access the website and enter the location code.
[0075] The spectator portal can be accessed by the user on his mobile terminal 1 via various known ways and can for example allow the user to access to information about the digital picture which is wanted to be displayed.
[0076] Alternatively, the spectator portal may be accessed via an application installed on the mobile terminal 1 and adapted for the performing of the method and the location code may be entered into the application. The application allows then the user to enter the location code.
[0077] In another embodiment, in the step (a01) , the user of the mobile terminal 1 scans the location code using a scanning unit of the mobile terminal. Typically, the location code may be a QR code and may be scanned by a camera of the mobile terminal 1. The location code may be scanned via the application installed on the mobile terminal 1 and adapted for the performing of the method, said application implementing a scanning module. Preferably, the scanning of the QR code triggers the redirection to the spectator portal.
[0078] In another embodiment, in the step (a01) , the processing unit 10 of the mobile terminal 1 generates the location code using GPS information obtained via a GPS unit of the mobile terminal 1. For example, the user may open the application installed on the mobile terminal 1 and adapted for the performing of the method and, via the application, launch the generation of the location code. Then, the application implements the generation of the location code using GPS information. This can be particularly useful for example during an event in a standing zone, such as during a concert in a pit. The organizer (who chooses and / or creates the digital picture) may be the organizer of a fan group of an idol and the fan group may want to display a digital picture to encourage the idol. However, in the mosh pit of a concert, there are not defined seats. Indeed, people are standing and do not have fixed position during the entire concert. In this embodiment in which GPS information is used to generate the location code, it will still be possible for the fan group to construct and display the digital picture using their mobile terminals.
[0079] The method then comprises a step (a02) wherein information regarding the location of the mobile terminal 1 is generated using the location code. By “generated using” , it is meant that the information regarding the location of the mobile terminal 1 is based on the location code. The information regarding the location of the mobile terminal 1 is data which is destined to be sent to the processing unit 20 of the server 2 so that the processing unit 20 of the server 2 recognizes the location of the mobile terminal 1. In other words, the information regarding the location of the mobile terminal 1 is preferably adapted to be interpretable by the processing unit 20 of the server 2, to determine a location of the mobile terminal 1.
[0080] In an embodiment, the information regarding the location of the mobile terminal 1 is generated by the processing unit 10 of the mobile terminal 1. The processing unit 10 of the mobile terminal 1 uses the location code to generate new data interpretable by the server 2. The information regarding the location of the mobile terminal 1 may be the location code itself.
[0081] In another embodiment, the information regarding the location of the mobile terminal 1 is generated by an intermediary server. Thus, the location code may be sent to the intermediary server by the mobile terminal 1 and the intermediary server generates the information regarding the location of the mobile terminal 1 before sending said information to the server 2.
[0082] In another embodiment, the information regarding the location of the mobile terminal 1 is generated by a local proxy (or a probe) sensing the presence of the mobile terminal 1. The local proxy knows its own position. Advantageously, there is one local proxy for each location. For example, a local proxy, such as an RFID chip, may be situated under each seat in a stadium. When it senses the presence of the mobile terminal 1 (e.g. the mobile terminal 1 is the mobile terminal of the user who takes the seat under which the local proxy is situated) , the local proxy receives from the mobile terminal 1 an identifier of this mobile terminal 1, which may be then temporarily associated with this local proxy, and generates the information regarding the location of this mobile terminal 1, which here comprises a couple comprising the identifier of the mobile terminal 1 and the position of the local proxy. Once this information has been generated, the local proxy transmits a message containing this information to a server (the server 2 or an intermediary server) . To do that, the local proxy may for example be connected to the server 2 or any intermediary server via a local network. In this embodiment, the mobile terminal 1 uses little resources for the generation of the information regarding the location of the mobile terminal 1 (it is not needed for the mobile terminal 1 to provide GPS information for example) .
[0083] The information regarding the location of the mobile terminal 1 being generated, the method then comprises a step (a) wherein the processing unit 20 of the server 2 receives the information regarding the location of the mobile terminal 1.
[0084] The information regarding the location of the mobile terminal 1 may have been sent by the processing unit 10 of the mobile terminal to the processing unit 20 of the server 2. In another embodiment, the information may have been sent by an intermediary server to the processing unit 20 of the server 2, when such information is generated by such an intermediary server as explained previously.
[0085] Thanks to the information regarding the location of the mobile terminal 1, the server 2 knows the location of the mobile terminal 1 in the spatial area.
[0086] The method preferably comprises a step (b) , implemented by the processing unit 20 of the server 2, of constructing a digital map of the spatial area, named spatial map. The spatial map comprises a plurality of sections forming a partition of the spatial map. In other terms, the sections do not overlap with each other. Preferably, the sections are of the same size. Each section corresponds to a location of the spatial area. In other words, advantageously, each section is associated with a location, for instance the identifier of a location or any information regarding a location. The spatial map may for example be represented as a table comprising cells, the cells forming a partition of the table, and each cell being a section corresponding to a location of the spatial area. If the locations are seats, advantageously, each section corresponds to a seat. For example, if the spatial area is a stadium comprising 100 rows and 50 lines of seats, the spatial map may be represented as a table comprising 100 rows and 50 lines of cells, i.e. sections.
[0087] Step (b) advantageously comprises constructing a presence map of the spatial area from the plurality of information regarding the location of the mobile terminals 1. More precisely, the presence map is constructed by mapping the plurality of information regarding the location of the mobile terminals 1 onto the spatial map. An occupied status is assigned to sections to which at least one information regarding a location of a mobile terminal 1 has been mapped, said sections being named occupied sections. An empty status is assigned to the other sections named empty sections. In other words, the presence map corresponds to a partition of occupied sections and empty sections.
[0088] The presence map represents thus the occupation i.e. the attendance rate, in the spatial area. The presence map represents the occupation in the spatial area of mobile terminals 1 for which the processing unit 20 of the server 2 has received information regarding the location of said mobile terminals 1. In other words, a person, eventually having a mobile terminal 1, may be located at a location corresponding to an empty section if the processing unit 10 of the mobile terminal 1 has not sent any information regarding its location, for example if said mobile terminal 1 is offline.
[0089] The presence map corresponds to the spatial map to which information of presence have been added for each section of the spatial map. In other words, the presence map corresponds to the spatial map with an added dimension. The presence map may be represented as a table comprising a plurality of cells, each cell comprising, for example, the number 1 if said cell is an occupied section or the number 0 if said cell is an empty section.
[0090] It is understood that mapping the plurality of information regarding the location of the mobile terminals 1 onto the spatial map entails attempting to match received information regarding the location of the mobile terminals 1 to the sections. For each received information regarding the location of a mobile terminal 1, the processing unit 20 of the server 2 determines the section of the spatial map corresponding to said location and assigns an occupied status to said determined section. In other words, the processing unit 20 of the server determines if a mobile terminal 1 is present at the location corresponding to said section. Each section for which no information regarding the location of a mobile terminal 1 corresponding to said section has been received is assigned an “empty” status. These empty sections correspond to locations of the spatial area wherein no mobile terminal 1 is located.
[0091] Advantageously, the method comprises a step (c) of obtaining a digital image by mapping the digital picture on at least a part of the presence map, said part of the presence map corresponding to a subarea of the spatial area. By “subarea” , it is meant at least one part of the spatial area. The subarea comprises locations forming preferably a partition of the subarea. Advantageously, the subarea extends according to at least one surface substantially facing a viewing zone. The viewing zone may be a zone where there are people to whom it is wanted to communicate a message. For example, the viewing zone may be a soccer field of a stadium and the users of the mobile terminals 1 are part of the audience of a soccer game. By “faces” , it is meant that users located in the subarea may see the viewing zone. In other words, the subarea is visible from the viewing zone and the viewing zone is visible from the subarea.
[0092] A part of the digital picture may be assigned to the occupied sections while no part of the digital picture is assigned to the empty sections. In other words, parts are only assigned to occupied sections. Consequently, if there are locations of the at least one part of the spatial area (i.e., the subarea) where no mobile terminal 1 is located, the digital image corresponds to the digital picture with missing pixels. However, if at least one mobile terminal 1 is located at all the locations of the at least one part of the subarea, the digital image corresponds to the digital picture. By “located” , it is meant that the mobile terminal 1 is located at said location and that an information regarding said location has been sent (typically by the processing unit 10 of the mobile terminal 1) to the processing unit 20 of the server 2.
[0093] Mapping the digital picture on the at least one part of the presence map implies that the processing unit 20 of the server 2 divides the digital picture into a plurality of parts of the digital picture. The plurality of parts corresponds to a partition of the digital picture. In other terms, the parts do not overlap with each other. Preferably, the parts are of the same size. The digital picture comprises a matrix of pixels. A part of the digital picture preferably comprises at least one pixel of the digital picture or at least one part of a pixel. Advantageously, the number of the plurality of parts of the digital picture generated by the processing unit 20 of the server 2 correspond to the number of locations of the plurality of locations in at least a part of the spatial area.
[0094] It is understood that the digital image corresponds to an image that would be really displayed if each of the mobile terminals 1 present in the subarea displayed a pixel of the digital picture. In other terms, the digital image illustrates the final digital picture rendering when displayed by the plurality of mobile terminals 1 present in the subarea. More precisely, let us imagine that the digital picture is divided in a plurality of parts comprising at least one pixel of the digital picture, the parts forming a partition of the digital picture. The parts are assigned by the processing unit 20 of the server 2 to locations in the subarea in consistency with the coordinates of each part of the digital picture and the locations. Thanks to the information regarding the location of each mobile terminal 1, the server 2 knows the location of the mobile terminal 1 in the subarea. Hence, the server 2 determines at least one part of the digital picture each mobile terminal 1 should display. The processing unit 20 of the server 2 then sends to at least one mobile terminal 1 an instruction to emit a light signal causing the mobile terminal 1 to emit a light signal consistent with a part of the digital picture assigned to the mobile terminal 1. A plurality of parts of the digital picture is displayed, each part being displayed by a different mobile terminal 1. In other words, several users present in a same subarea use their mobile terminal 1 to display a part of the digital picture. If the users are in different locations of the subarea, meaning that their mobile terminals 1 are in different locations of the subarea, the mobile terminals 1 will display different parts of the digital picture.
[0095] Preferably, said displayed parts do not overlap with each other such that said displayed parts correspond to at least a part of a partition of the digital picture. Ideally, each part of the digital picture is displayed. This means that, for each part of the digital picture, there is at least one mobile terminal 1 emitting a light signal corresponding to the part, i.e., displaying the part.
[0096] As illustrated in figure 3, an example of displayed digital picture obtained represents the letter “G” . Said digital picture may be destined to be displayed with another digital picture representing the letter “O” , the digital pictures being parts of the bigger digital picture representing the word “GO” , as illustrated in figure 4 representing a first digital picture D1 and a second digital picture D2.
[0097] However, in a subarea, there may not be enough users having a mobile terminal 1 and wanting to display the digital picture such that the content of said digital picture would not be recognizable in the content of the actually displayed digital picture (i.e. by the plurality of mobile terminals 1 present in the subarea) . The displayed digital picture then may comprise missing parts, as illustrated in figures 5 and 6. The digital image obtained in step (c) illustrates how the digital picture would really be displayed by the mobile terminals 1 located in the subarea if it was attempted to display the digital picture.
[0098] Advantageously, the method may comprise a step (d) of obtaining, for said subarea of the spatial area, a similarity score between the digital picture and the digital image by comparing the digital picture and the digital image. In other words, the content of the digital picture and the content of the digital image are compared.
[0099] In an embodiment, this step (d) is performed for several subareas of the spatial area. In other words, several digital images are obtained by mapping the digital picture on different parts of the presence map, corresponding to different subareas of the spatial area. The content of the digital picture and the content of digital images are compared for different subareas of the spatial area. This will be detailed later.
[0100] Step (d) aims at determining, for at least one subarea, if the digital picture and the digital image are similar. To do so, in step (d) , preferably comprises applying at least on the digital image a text recognition algorithm, like a Convolutional Recurrent Neural Network (CRNN) , and / or an image comparison algorithm, like a Scale-Invariant Feature Transform (SIFT) algorithm. Further details about SIFT may be found, for example, at the following link https: / / en. wikipedia. org / wiki / Scale-invariant_feature_transform.
[0101] Advantageously, step (d) aims at determining, for a subarea, if the content of the digital picture and the content of the digital image have a similar semantic value. According to the Meriam webster dictionary, the adjective “semantic” means “of or relating to meaning in language” . By “semantic value” , it is meant what something means, the meaning it expresses. The semantic value of a content thus refers to the meaning of the content. The meaning of something is what it expresses or represents. Hence, the meaning of a word is what said word expresses. The meaning of a symbol, a shape, a pattern, or a drawing is what said symbol, shape, pattern, or drawing represents, for example an animal. In other words, the semantic value of a content refers to what a person understands when reading or looking at the content. Step (d) aims at determining if the content of the digital picture is correctly represented, i.e., is recognizable, in the digital image. In other words, it is aimed at determining if a person would see the same content by looking at the digital picture and at the digital image. Technically, comparing the semantic values of different contents may be performed using different algorithms.
[0102] Comparing the semantic values may only consist in comparing the spelling of words or the type of a letter. For example, comparing the semantic values may only consist in ensuring that the letter “B” , or the letters of the word “go” , which can be the content of the digital picture, is comprised into the digital image. Otherwise, comparing the semantic values may only consist in ensuring that the pattern represented into the digital picture is identically represented into the digital image. In a more complex embodiment, comparing the semantic values may consist in analysing the meaning. For example, if the content of the digital picture is the word “go” and that the content of the digital image is “gu” (the top of the letter “o” is cut) , comparing the semantic values may consist in determining if “go” has the same (or a related) meaning than “gu” in a dictionary.
[0103] In other words, in a certain embodiment, comparing the semantic values consists in only ensuring that, in case the content of the digital picture is a letter, a word or a sentence, said content can be read into the digital image. Or, in case the content of the digital picture is a pattern, shape, drawing, comparing the semantic values consists in only ensuring that said content is similar, recognizable into the digital image. In a more complex embodiment, comparing the semantic values consists in analysing the possible meanings and / or the possible interpretations of the content of the digital image to determine if it can match a possible meaning and / or possible interpretation of the digital content.
[0104] In case the content of the digital picture comprises a letter and / or a word and / or a sentence, the processing unit 20 of the server 2 may already store said content in a text format, for example if the organizer has, in instruction to create the digital picture, entered text into a dedicated field on the organizing portal, the text having been converted into an image, i.e. the digital picture. Said text is the semantic value of the content of the digital picture. In this case, it is only necessary to extract the semantic value of the content of digital image, i.e. trying to determine a text the content of the digital image comprises, in instruction to compare the semantic values. To this end, a text recognition algorithm may be applied on the digital image in instruction to extract the semantic value, i.e. a text, of the content of the digital image from the digital image. If the processing unit 20 of the server 2 does not already store the content of the digital picture in a text format, the text recognition algorithm may also be applied on the digital picture. The text recognition algorithm may be a Convolutional Recurrent Neural Network (CRNN) . The text recognition algorithm may be an algorithm combining an object detection model, like YOLO (You Only Look Once) which is a lightweight object detection model and is known for its real-time object detection capabilities, with a text recognition model. In other terms, the algorithm may correspond to an object detection model such as YOLO to which a text recognition layer is added. The text recognition algorithm may be an algorithm combining MobileNet-SSD (Single-Shot Detector) network and a LSTM (Long Short-Term Memory) network. In other terms, the algorithm may correspond to a MobileNet-SSD for text detection, which is a lightweight object detection model, to which is applied an LSTM network for text recognition. MobileNet-SSD is designed to be efficient and suitable for mobile applications.
[0105] In an embodiment wherein the content of the digital picture comprises shapes, patterns and / or drawings, the processing unit 20 of the server 2 may store a semantic value of said content, for example in a text format, such as “lion” if the content represents a lion (the animal) . Indeed, the digital picture may be linked to metadata indicating that said digital picture represents a lion. In other words, the digital picture is classified, i.e., associated to a class (in the example, the lion class) , said class being the semantic value of the content of the digital picture. The semantic value of the content of the digital image may be determined using a classifier or any supervised or non-supervised neuronal network. A class may be assigned to the content of the digital image, said class being the semantic value of the content of the digital image. If the processing unit 20 of the server 2 does not already store a semantic value of the content of the digital picture, the classifier may also be applied on the digital picture.
[0106] Once the semantic values of the digital picture and of the digital image are determined, they may be compared. In other words, a similarity score is obtained. The similarity score may be obtained using any known comparison algorithm.
[0107] In another embodiment wherein the content of the digital picture comprises shapes, patterns and / or drawings, an image comparison algorithm like SIFT may simply be applied on the digital picture and / or on the digital image in instruction to directly obtain a similarity score.
[0108] The similarity score represents, i.e. quantifies, the similarity between the digital picture and the digital image, more precisely the similarity between the content of the digital picture and the content of the digital image, and in particular the similarity between the semantic value of the content of the digital picture and the semantic value of the content of the digital image, once these semantic values are obtained.
[0109] The method comprises a step (e) of determining at least one subarea of the spatial area maximizing the similarity score between the digital picture and the digital image. To this end, the processing unit 20 may reiterate step (d) of obtaining a similarity score for other subareas. The number of iterations of step (d) depends on the size of the subarea and thus on the size of the digital picture. Hence, number of iterations of step (d) depends on the number of parts of the digital picture and thus on the number of pixels of the digital picture. Let us consider, for example, that the digital picture to be displayed has a length A and a width B (the size of the digital picture is thus A x B, in other terms, the digital picture comprises A x B parts of the digital picture, eventually A x B pixels if one part is equivalent to one pixel) and that the spatial area has a length of C and a width of D (for example, the spatial area comprises C columns and D rows of seats) . In a preferred embodiment, C is greater than or equal to A and D is greater than or equal to B. Hence, the maximum number of iterations of step (d) is equal to (C –A) x (D –B) . If (C –A) is equal to zero, then the maximum number of iterations of step (d) is equal to (D –B) . Respectively, if (D –B) is equal to zero, then the maximum number of iterations of step (d) is equal to (C –A) .
[0110] Then, the processing unit 20 determines the subarea for which the similarity score is maximum. In other words, it is aimed at determining the subarea allowing the best displaying of the digital picture, so that the actual displayed digital picture is the most similar to the digital picture. Step (e) then aims at finding a way to display the digital picture using a plurality of mobile terminals 1 of the spatial so that the digital image which follows (and to which the digital picture which would really be displayed by the present mobile terminals 1 is supposed to look like) is similar enough to said digital picture.
[0111] For each iteration of step (d) , the processing unit 20 determines another subarea of the spatial area and obtains a digital image by mapping the digital picture on a part of the presence map corresponding to said subarea. Different subareas may overlap.
[0112] Figures 5 to 7 illustrate three subareas, surrounded by dotted lines (first subarea S1, second subarea S2, third subarea S3) , for which digital images are obtained from the first digital picture D1 (containing a “G” letter) . It can be visually seen that the third subarea S3 provides the most similar result to D1, this subarea S3 being the subarea for which the similarity score with D1 is the greatest among all subareas S1, S2 and S3.
[0113] The several iterations of step (d) may be seen as testing several subareas and as displacing the potential displaying of the digital picture into the spatial area.
[0114] In a certain embodiment, a new iteration of step (d) is only performed if the similarity score obtained from the previous iteration of step (d) is lower than a first threshold. Hence, step (d) is iterated only if no acceptable subarea is obtained.
[0115] Advantageously, step (e) also comprises updating the digital picture by modifying a content of the digital picture while retaining a same semantic value of the content. In other words, it will be determined how to modify the digital picture so that the digital image which follows (and to which the digital picture which would really be displayed by the present mobile terminals 1 is supposed to look like) is similar enough to said digital picture. The content of the digital picture is modified but the semantic value of the content remains the same.
[0116] Advantageously, modifying the content of the digital picture comprises at least one of the following actions: modifying the size of the content, modifying the font of the content, modifying the shape of the content. For example, if the content comprises a letter, the letter may be enlarged, reduced or the font may be changed.
[0117] Advantageously, alternatively or in addition to the above proposed modifications, modifying the content of the digital picture comprises generating a new digital picture having a new content having the same semantic value than the semantic value of the content of the initial digital picture, i.e., the digital picture before being updated. For example, a word may be replaced by a synonym. Words of encouragement for athletes may be replaced by different words of encouragement. A logo may be replaced by the same logo differently stylized.
[0118] Advantageously, the modifications are made as a function of the information regarding the locations of the mobile terminals 1. Indeed, it is wanted to obtain a digital picture that can be fully displayed using the mobile terminals 1 present in the subarea. In other words, the digital picture is updated as a function of the mobile terminals 1, more precisely their locations.
[0119] The aim of the modifications is to obtain a digital image resulting from the mapping of the digital picture on the presence map (corresponding to how the digital picture will actually be displayed considering the locations of the present mobile terminals 1) as similar as possible to the digital picture, i.e., the similarity score between the digital image and the digital picture being maximized.
[0120] Hence, it is understood that the processing unit 20 modifies the digital picture and new iterations of step (d) are performed based on the modified digital picture.
[0121] The number of iterations of step (d) and the number of modifications of the digital picture may be limited to a certain number. For example, this limit could be a maximum number of 50 iterations and / or modifications of the digital picture, so that the algorithm remains not too complex, while the best option (i.e. the modification allowing the best similarity score) is selected. Hence, the determining of the subarea maximizing the similarity score may be made among the subareas tested for a certain number of iterations of step (d) and / or of modifications of the digital picture. Otherwise, the iterations of step (d) may be stopped once a similarity score greater than or equal to a first threshold is obtained as described above.
[0122] Hence, it is thus understood that step (e) advantageously comprises comparing the obtained similarity score, the number of performed iterations of step (d) and / or the number of modifications of the digital picture to a threshold to determine if another iteration of step (d) should be triggered.
[0123] It is understood that, advantageously, at the end of step (e) , a subarea is determined. Preferably, it is considered that the contents of the digital picture and of the digital image corresponding to the determined subarea are similar enough so that a person looking at the digital image would interpret the content of the digital image the same way he / she would interpret the content of the digital picture. The digital image resulting from the mapping of the digital picture on the part of the presence map corresponding to the determined subarea allows a maximized similarity score between the digital image and the digital picture. In other words, the subarea comprises mobile terminals 1 arranged (in terms of locations) so that the digital picture would be properly displayed using said mobile terminals 1. In other words, the digital picture once displayed using said mobile terminals 1, illustrated by the digital image, is similar to the digital picture.
[0124] In the example illustrated in figure 5 to 7, the third subarea S3 would preferably be the subarea determined since it is the subarea among the three subareas S1, S2 and S3 which allows to display properly the letter “G” .
[0125] In a further step (g0) , the processing unit 20 of the server 2 may assign to at least one location of the determined subarea a part of the digital picture each part comprising at least one pixel of the digital picture. Thanks to the information regarding the location of the mobile terminals 1, the server 2 knows the locations of the mobile terminals 1 in the determined subarea. Hence, the server 2 determines the part of the digital picture each mobile terminal 1 should display. This part is named “determined part” in the following. At least some of the mobile terminals 1 located in the subarea are each assigned a part of the digital picture.
[0126] In a further step (g) , the processing unit 20 of the server 1 sends to the processing units 10 of some, or all, of the mobile terminals 1 located in the determined subarea, an instruction to emit a light signal corresponding to the part of the digital image. By “corresponding to the part of the digital image” , it is meant that the light signal is supposed to present similar features to the features of the part of the digital image. For example, if the determined part of the digital image is red, the light signal is red.
[0127] More precisely, an instruction to emit a light signal is sent to all the mobile terminals 1 which have been assigned a part (e.g. a pixel) of the digital picture to be displayed in step (g0) , among the mobile terminals located within the determined subarea as previously discussed. For the other mobile terminals 1 which have not been assigned a part of the digital picture to be displayed, an instruction not to emit a light signal may be sent or no instruction is sent at all. In other words, instructions to emit a light signal is sent to the processing units of some of the mobile terminal located in the subarea, when these instructions are instructions to emit a light signal corresponding to a part of the digital picture or, alternatively, instructions to emit a light signal is sent to the processing units of each of the mobile terminals located in the subarea, when these instructions are instructions to either emit a light signal corresponding to a part of the digital picture or not to emit any light signal.
[0128] Thus, the processing units 10 of the mobile terminals 1 receive the instruction. Next, advantageously, in a step of displaying of the method for displaying a digital picture using a plurality of mobile terminals 1, the processing units 10 of the mobile terminals 1 display parts of the digital picture by emitting the light signal.
[0129] More precisely, the instruction to emit a light signal causes the mobile terminals 1 to emit a light signal consistent with the determined part of the digital picture.
[0130] Preferably, the light signal is emitted only when the event, during which the digital picture is supposed to be displayed, begins or at a specific time during the event. The time when the light signal is emitted is preferably programmed by the organizer using the organizing portal. Advantageously, the users of the mobile terminals 1 have access to the spectator portal and which can give the user access, according to his location, to information about the digital picture to be displayed and to the time when it will be displayed.
[0131] The light signal may be emitted in different ways.
[0132] In a first embodiment, when instructions are sent to all mobile terminals 1, the instruction to emit the light signal causes a flashlight unit 12 of the mobile terminal to emit or not a flashlight. In that case, it is understood that the instruction to emit the light signal may cause the mobile terminal 1 not to emit a flashlight. In other words, the light signal may be a zero light signal, meaning that no light is emitted. The flashlight embodiment allows the emitting of a light signal which is quite strong and viewable from a large distance (i.e. at least 30 meters) and in dark environments. Alternatively, when instructions are sent only to mobile terminals which have been assigned a part of the digital picture to be displayed, only instructions to emit the light signal which causes a flashlight unit 12 of the mobile terminal 1 to emit a light signal are then sent.
[0133] In a second embodiment, when instructions are sent to all mobile terminals 1, the instruction to emit the light signal causes the screen 14 of the mobile terminal 1 to display or not an image. It is understood that the instruction to emit the light signal may cause the mobile terminal 1 not to display an image. In other words, the light signal may be a zero light signal, meaning that the screen 14 is in a turned off state. The screen embodiment allows to limit the energy consumption of the mobile terminal 1. Indeed, the emitting of a flashlight may be energy consuming. Alternatively, when instructions are sent only to mobile terminals which have been assigned a part of the digital picture to be displayed, only instructions to emit the light signal which causes the screen 14 of the mobile terminal 1 to display an image are then sent.
[0134] The image may comprise coloured pixels. By “coloured” , it is meant that the pixel is not black or white. In a typical embodiment, the image is plain, i.e., there is only one colour in the image. Indeed, in an example wherein it is wanted to form a large digital picture, for instance using a large number of mobile terminals 1 (i.e. at least 50 mobile terminals 1) , which is wanted to be readable from a distance (i.e. at least 10 meters) , each part of the digital picture needs to be simple. In other words, each part is preferably not too complex because it could not be readable from a distance. It is also understood that said image corresponds to a part of the digital picture. Thus, preferably, if said part of the digital picture is coloured, the colour (s) of the image corresponds to the colour (s) of the part of the digital picture.
[0135] In a certain embodiment, the digital picture is dynamic. The digital picture may be a sequence of individual digital pictures, this sequence may be preset, i.e., a loop, or dynamically set (on the flow) . The digital picture may even be a video. In other words, a flow of instructions to emit a light signal is sent by the processing unit 20 of the server 2 to the processing unit 10 of the mobile terminal 1. Hence, the mobile terminal 1 emits successive light signals. For example, the flashlight unit 12 of the mobile terminal 1 may emit continuous flashlights and / or the flashlight unit 12 may blink according to different frequencies. As another example, the screen 14 may display successively images of different colours and / or turn off at certain time intervals.
[0136] The flow of instructions may be emitted via a websocket connection maintained between the mobile terminal 1 and the server 2.
[0137] In another embodiment, the flow of instructions is provided by the server 2 to the mobile device 1 and the flow of instructions is first fully downloaded and then run on the mobile device 1. In other words, contrary to the websocket connection, the instructions of emitting a light signal are not directly executed in real time. In this embodiment, the mobile terminal 1 first downloads the flow of instructions, i.e., a sequence of instructions, before executing it. This allows to prevent the need to maintain a high number (hundreds or thousands) of websocket connections between each of the mobile terminals 1 and the server 2. In this embodiment, preferably, the time on each mobile terminal 1 is synchronized so that the mobile terminals 1 have a similar baseline on time.
[0138] Preferably, a plurality of light signals is emitted, each light signal among the plurality of light signals being emitted by a different mobile terminal 1, such that a plurality of parts of the digital picture is displayed, each part being displayed by a different mobile terminal 1. In other words, several users present in a same area use their mobile terminal 1 to display a part of the digital picture. If the users are in different locations of the area, meaning that their mobile terminals 1 are in different locations of the area, the mobile terminals 1 will display different parts of the digital picture. Preferably, said displayed parts do not overlap with each other such that said displayed parts correspond to at least a part of a partition of the digital picture.
[0139] Ideally, each part of the digital picture is displayed. This means that, for each part of the digital picture, there is at least one mobile terminal 1 emitting a light signal corresponding to the part, i.e., displaying the part.
[0140] In a preferred embodiment, each mobile terminal 1 located at least in the subarea is positioned by its user to direct each light signal in a direction towards the viewing zone. Consequently, viewers such as for example soccer players or musicians, when they are on the field, can preferably see the digital picture.
[0141] Figure 7 illustrates an embodiment wherein a digital picture is displayed. In this figure, several users U are standing in a spatial area A comprising the three subareas. Each user U holds a mobile terminal 1. It can be imagined that the schematic area A is a grandstand in a stadium illustrated in two dimensions. All the mobile terminals 1 are directed along a same direction. One part of the mobile terminals 1 do not emit any light signal. The other part of the mobile terminals 1 emits a light signal L which can be emitted by the flashlight unit 12 or by the screen 14. The digital picture in this illustrated embodiment represents the letter “G” . Thanks to the described method, the displayed digital picture in figure 3 (which was wanted to be displayed initially in subarea S1 but could not regarding the attendance in figures 5 to 7) and the displayed digital picture in figure 7 are similar. The semantic value of the content of the digital picture displayed in figure 7 is the same as the semantic value of the content of the digital picture displayed in figure 3.
[0142] In the example of figure 8, the digital pictures have been modified in comparison to the non-updated digital pictures of figure 4 which would have been displayed if the attendance of the users was different. Thanks to the described method, the semantic value of the content of the digital picture displayed in figure 4 is the same as the semantic value of the content of the updated digital picture displayed in figure 8. The first digital picture D1 is displayed in a fourth subarea S4 and the second digital picture D2 is displayed in a fifth subarea S5. The subareas S4, S5 are surrounded by dotted lines.
[0143] Hence, even if there are few users attending the event and / or even if the users are not well distributed, the digital picture displayed can still be legible and understood.
[0144] It is reminded that, advantageously, several digital pictures are displayed to display a bigger digital picture. This is illustrated in figure 8, where a first digital picture D1 representing the letter “G” and a second digital picture D2 representing the letter “O” are displayed.
[0145] In a certain embodiment, if every similarity score obtained at the end of each iteration of step (d) is lower than a second threshold which is lower than the first threshold, the method preferably comprises a step (f) of sending to an administrator terminal a notification that the digital picture is not to be displayed. The server 2 may also send a message to each participating mobile terminal 1 to warn their user that the digital picture might not be displayed, for example because there are not enough participants.
