Abstract

Various aspects of the present disclosure generally relate to wireless communication. In some aspects, a plurality of receive (Rx) -beam levels may be associated with respective layer 1 (L1) beam measurement accuracy tolerances. A user equipment (UE) may receive a request to report L1 beam measurements for a first set of beams. The UE may transmit the L1 beam measurements, as well as an Rx-beam level ID associated with the L1 beam measurements, to the network node. In some examples, the network node may perform beam detection for a second set of beams, in accordance with the L1 beam measurements for the first set of beams, using an artificial intelligence / machine learning (AI / ML) model associated with the Rx-beam level ID associated with the L1 beam measurements. In some examples, the network node may train an AI / ML model associated with the Rx-beam level ID using the L1 beam measurements as training data.

Description

RECEIVE-BEAM LEVEL SPECIFIC LAYER 1 BEAM MEASUREMENT ACCURACIES

[0001] FIELD OF THE DISCLOSURE

[0002] Aspects of the present disclosure generally relate to wireless communication and specifically relate to techniques, apparatuses, and methods for receive-beam level specific layer 1 beam measurement accuracies.BACKGROUND

[0003] Wireless communication systems are widely deployed to provide various services that may include carrying voice, text, messaging, video, data, and / or other traffic. The services may include unicast, multicast, and / or broadcast services, among other examples. Typical wireless communication systems may employ multiple-access radio access technologies (RATs) capable of supporting communication with multiple users by sharing available system resources (for example, time domain resources, frequency domain resources, spatial domain resources, and / or device transmit power, among other examples) . Examples of such multiple-access RATs include code division multiple access (CDMA) systems, time division multiple access (TDMA) systems, frequency division multiple access (FDMA) systems, orthogonal frequency division multiple access (OFDMA) systems, single-carrier frequency division multiple access (SC-FDMA) systems, and time division synchronous code division multiple access (TD-SCDMA) systems.

[0004] The above multiple-access RATs have been adopted in various telecommunication standards to provide common protocols that enable different wireless communication devices to communicate on a municipal, national, regional, or global level. An example telecommunication standard is New Radio (NR) . NR, which may also be referred to as 5G, is part of a continuous mobile broadband evolution promulgated by the Third Generation Partnership Project (3GPP) . NR (and other mobile broadband evolutions beyond NR) may be designed to better support Internet of things (IoT) and reduced capability device deployments, industrial connectivity, millimeter wave (mmWave) expansion, licensed and unlicensed spectrum access, non-terrestrial network (NTN) deployment, sidelink and other device-to-device direct communication technologies (for example, cellular vehicle-to-everything (CV2X) communication) , massive multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) , disaggregated network architectures and  network topology expansions, multiple-subscriber implementations, high-precision positioning, and / or radio frequency (RF) sensing, among other examples. As the demand for mobile broadband access continues to increase, further improvements in NR may be implemented, and other radio access technologies such as 6G may be introduced, to further advance mobile broadband evolution.

[0005] Wireless networks may operate at higher frequency bands, such as within millimeter wave bands, to offer high data rates. In some examples, wireless devices, such as a network node and a UE, may communicate with each other through beamforming techniques to increase communication speed and reliability. The beamforming techniques may enable a wireless device to transmit a signal in a particular direction instead of transmitting an omnidirectional signal in all directions. In some examples, the wireless device may transmit a signal from multiple antenna elements using a common wavelength and phase for the transmission from the multiple antenna elements, and the signal from the multiple antenna elements may be combined to create a combined signal with a longer range and a more directed beam. The beamwidth of the signal may vary based on the transmitting frequency. For example, higher frequency bands may enable wireless devices to form much narrower beam structures, as compared to the beam structures formed using lower frequency bands. In addition, the higher frequency bands may provide a large available bandwidth. The transmission path of a narrower beam may be more likely to be tailored to a receiver, such that the transmission may be more likely to meet a line-of-sight (LOS) condition as the narrower beam may be more likely to reach the receiver without being obstructed by obstacle (s) . Also, as the transmission path may be narrow, reflection and / or refraction may be less likely to occur for the narrower beam.

[0006] While higher frequency bands may provide narrower beam structures and higher transmission rates, higher frequency bands may also encounter higher attenuation and diffraction losses, where a blockage of an LOS path may degrade a wireless link quality. As a result, wireless communications using higher frequency bands may be more susceptible to environmental changes, as compared to wireless communications using lower frequency bands. Beam management procedures may be performed by a UE and / or a network node to select a best beam or beam pair for communications between the UE and the network node. However, because higher frequency bands may be more susceptible to environmental changes than lower frequency bands, the beam management procedures may need to be performed more frequently and / or using additional beams. This may introduce significant overhead and consume network resources, processing  resources, and / or power resources of a UE (and / or a network node) associated with performing the beam management procedures.SUMMARY

[0030] Various aspects of the present disclosure are described hereinafter with reference to the accompanying drawings. However, aspects of the present disclosure may be embodied in many different forms and is not to be construed as limited to any specific aspect illustrated by or described with reference to an accompanying drawing or otherwise presented in this disclosure. Rather, these aspects are provided so that this disclosure will be thorough and complete, and will fully convey the scope of the disclosure to those skilled in the art. One skilled in the art may appreciate that the scope of the disclosure is intended to cover any aspect of the disclosure disclosed herein, whether implemented independently of or in combination with any other aspect of the disclosure. For example, an apparatus may be implemented or a method may be practiced using various combinations or quantities of the aspects set forth herein. In addition, the scope of the disclosure is intended to cover an apparatus having, or a method that is practiced using, other structures and / or functionalities in addition to or other than the structures and / or functionalities with which various aspects of the disclosure set forth herein may be practiced. Any aspect of the disclosure disclosed herein may be embodied by one or more elements of a claim.

[0031] Several aspects of telecommunication systems will now be presented with reference to various methods, operations, apparatuses, and techniques. These methods, operations, apparatuses, and techniques will be described in the following detailed description and illustrated in the accompanying drawings by various blocks, modules, components, circuits, steps, processes, or algorithms (collectively referred to as “elements” ) . These elements may be implemented using hardware, software, or a combination of hardware and software. Whether such elements are implemented as hardware or software depends upon the particular application and design constraints imposed on the overall system.

[0032] In some examples, artificial intelligence (AI) and / or machine learning (ML) (AI / ML) may be used by a network node and / or a user equipment (UE) for beam management. For example, an AI / ML model may be deployed at or on a network node and / or at or on a UE, and the AI / ML model may enable the network node and / or the UE to determine one or more inferences or predictions based on data input to the AI / ML  model. In some examples, an input to the AI / ML model may include layer 1 (L1) beam measurements (for example, L1 reference signal received power (RSRP) measurements and / or L1 signal-to-interference-plus-noise ratio (SINR) measurements) associated with a first set of beams. For example, the UE may perform the L1 beam measurements associated with the first set of beams, and the UE may report the L1 beam measurements associated with the first set of beams to the network node. The network node may input the measurements into the AI / ML model deployed at or on the network node. The AI / ML model may output one or more predictions. The one or more predictions may include predicted measurement values (for example, predicted L1 RSRP measurement values and / or predicted L1 SINR measurement values) associated with a second set of beams. This may reduce a quantity of beam measurements that are performed by the UE, thereby conserving power of the UE and / or network resources that would have otherwise been used to measure all beams included in the first set of beams and the second set of beams.

[0033] In some examples, L1 beam measurements performed by a UE may be subject to measurement accuracy tolerances. Such measurement accuracy tolerances may define requirements for the accuracy of the L1 beam measurements performed by a UE. In some examples, a wireless communication standard (for example, a wireless communication standard promulgated by the Third Generation Partnership Project (3GPP) ) may specify measurement accuracy tolerances associated with various L1 beam measurements. For example, the 3GPP wireless communication standard specifies L1 RSRP measurement accuracy tolerances for L1 RSRP measurements performed on synchronization signal blocks (SSBs) , L1 RSRP measurement accuracy tolerances for L1 RSRP measurements performed on channel state information (CSI) reference signals (CSI-RSs) , L1 SINR measurements performed on SSBs, and L1 SINR measurements performed on CSI-RSs. The measurement accuracy tolerances may be based on or otherwise associated with an absolute accuracy tolerance and / or based on or otherwise associated with a relative accuracy tolerance with respect to a strongest measured signal. For example, an absolute accuracy for L1 RSRP measurements of SSBs may be expressed as RSRPmeas-RSRPideal, where RSRPmeas is a measured L1 RSRP of an SSB and RSRPideal is an ideal L1 RSRP of the SSB (for example, determined by a reference or “golden” UE) . A relative accuracy for L1 RSRP measurements of SSBs may be expressed as  where are the measured and ideal L1 RSRPs of a certain SSB,  is the strongest measured  L1 RSRP of all SSBs in the same serving cell, and is the ideal L1 RSRP of that strongest measured SSB. In release 17 of the 3GPP standard, the absolute accuracy tolerance for L1 RSRP measurements of SSBs may be as high as ±11.5 dB in some conditions, and the relative accuracy tolerance for L1 RSRP measurements of SSBs may be as high as ±9.5 dB in some conditions.

[0034] In some examples, when a UE measures and reports L1 beam measurements, such as L1 RSRP measurements and / or L1 SINR measurements, it may be up to the UE to select receive (Rx) -beam levels to use for measuring and reporting the L1 beam measurements. The Rx-beam levels may correspond to or be based on or otherwise associated with a quantity of antenna elements activated for Rx-beams. For example, a UE may have three antenna panels and four antenna elements per panel. If the UE prefers to reduce power consumption by the UE, rather than trying to achieve high throughput, the UE may use wide Rx-beams based on or otherwise associated with one or two active antenna elements for measuring and reporting L1 RSRP measurements (and / or L1 SINR measurements) for SSBs and / or CSI-RSs. In such examples, scheduled physical downlink shared channel (PDSCH) communications that are quasi co-located with such SSBs and / or CSI-RSs will also be received using the wide Rx-beams. If the UE prefers high throughput, the UE may use (or attempt to use) narrow Rx-beams based on or otherwise associated with three or four active antenna elements to derive / measure the L1 RSRP measurements (and / or L1 SINR measurements) . In such examples, the scheduled PDSCH communications will also be received using the narrow Rx-beams. The UE may select which type of Rx-beam to use for L1 beam measurements, and the selection of the Rx-beam levels by the UE may be transparent to the network.

[0035] Due to such UE implementation flexibility for selecting the Rx-beam levels to use, L1 RSRP measurement accuracy requirements may be defined in a wireless communication standard using relatively relaxed error tolerances (for example, up to ±11.5 dB) . Testing of a UE on L1 RSRP measurement accuracy may be carried out in a chamber via a reference UE using a certain reference Rx-beam design (for example, two or three antenna elements) . Thus, a UE selecting Rx-beam choices other than the reference Rx-beam design can lead to an offset between an L1 RSRP measured by the UE and an L1 RSRP measured by the reference UE, mainly due to different array gains associated with different Rx-beam levels. Such large array gains resulting from different Rx-beam levels, which satisfy the relaxed L1 RSRP measurement accuracy error  tolerance (for example, up to ±11.5 dB) , may adversely affect the performance of network side AI / ML-based beam prediction. For example, the input for an AI / ML model deployed at or on a network node may mainly include UE measured and reported L1 RSRP measurements of Set B beams. Without knowledge of the Rx-beam types and / or levels being used at the UE, the network node may need to collect a large amount of data based on or otherwise associated with various Rx-beam level choices from different UEs to train AI / ML models to be deployed at the network node for beam prediction. As a result, training of such AI / ML models may be inefficient and may consume significant network resources for collecting the training data and significant processing resources for training the AI / ML model. Furthermore, such AI / ML models may be inaccurate during inference for UEs with certain Rx-beam level choices, which may result in incorrect beam prediction and / or beam management.

[0036] Various aspects relate generally to measuring and reporting L1 beam measurements by a UE. Some aspects more specifically relate to Rx-beam level specific L1 beam measurement accuracy tolerances. In some aspects, a plurality of Rx-beam levels may be defined, and the plurality of Rx-beam levels may be associated with respective Rx-beam level specific L1 beam measurement accuracy tolerances. In some examples, the Rx-beam levels may be roughly estimated based on or otherwise associated with antenna array gains, and the respective Rx-beam level specific L1 beam measurement accuracy tolerances may be segmented according to the different Rx-beam levels with tighter (for example, smaller) error tolerances, as compared to L1 beam measurement accuracy tolerances that are not specific to Rx-beam levels.

[0037] In some aspects, a UE may receive, from a network node, a request to report L1 beam measurements for a first set of beams. The UE may perform the L1 beam measurements for the first set of beams using an Rx-beam level, of the plurality of Rx-beam levels that are associated with respective Rx-beam level specific L1 beam measurement accuracy tolerances. For example, the L1 beam measurements may be L1 RSRP measurement and / or L1 SINR measurements. The UE may transmit the L1 beam measurements for the first set of beams to the network node, and the UE may also transmit, to the network node, an Rx-beam level ID associated with the L1 beam measurements. For example, Rx-beam level ID may indicate the Rx-beam level, of the plurality of Rx-beam levels, used by the UE to perform the L1 beam measurements. In some examples, the network node may perform beam detection, in accordance with the L1 beam measurements for the first set of beams, using an AI / ML model associated with  the Rx-beam level ID associated with the L1 beam measurements. For example, the AI / ML model associated with the Rx-beam level ID may input the L1 beam measurements for the first set of beams that are associated with the Rx-beam level ID, and the AI / ML model may output predicted L1 beam measurements for a second set of beams. In some example, the network node may be equipped with multiple AI / ML models associated with different respective Rx-beam level IDs corresponding to different Rx-beam levels of the plurality of beam levels, and the network node may select the AI / ML model associated with the Rx-beam level ID from the multiple AI / ML models.

[0038] In some examples, the network node may receive the L1 beam measurements for the first set of beams and the Rx-beam level ID associated with the L1 beam measurements, and the network node may train an AI / ML model associated with the Rx-beam level ID using the L1 beam measurements for the first set of beams. For example, the network node may use the L1 beam measurements for the first set of beams that are associated with the Rx-beam level ID as training data to train the AI / ML model associated with the Rx-beam level ID to predict L1 beam measurements associated with a second set of beams. In some example, the network node may train separate AI / ML models associated with different Rx-beam level IDs using respective training data associated with each different Rx-beam level ID to train each AI / ML model.

[0039] In some aspects, a UE may receive, from a network node, a request to report L1 beam measurements for a first set of beams and a request for the UE to apply an Rx-beam level ID for the L1 beam measurements for the first set of beams. The UE may perform the L1 beam measurements for the first set of beam using an Rx-beam level, of the plurality of Rx-beam levels, that corresponds to the Rx-beam level ID. The UE may report the L1 beam measurements for the first set of beams to the network node. In some examples, the network node may perform, based on or otherwise in accordance with the L1 beam measurements for the first set of beams, beam prediction for a second set of beams using an AI / ML model associated with the Rx-beam level ID. For example, the network node may request that the UE apply a certain Rx-beam level ID for the L1 beam measurements in connection with the network node being equipped with the AI / ML model associated with that Rx-beam level ID.

[0040] In some examples, the network node may receive the L1 beam measurements associated with the Rx-beam level ID requested by the network node, and the network node may train an AI / ML model (for example, for beam prediction for a second set of beams) associated with that Rx-beam level ID using the L1 beam measurements as  training data. For example, the network node may request training data (for example, L1 beam measurements) that is associated with a specific Rx-beam level ID to be used to train an AI / ML model for that specific Rx-beam level ID.

[0041] In some examples, the network node may transmit, to the UE, a request for the UE to apply an Rx-beam level ID to L1 beam measurements for L1 / layer 2 (L2) triggered monitoring (LTM) candidate cells. For example, the network node the requested Rx-beam level ID may indicate a fixed Rx-beam level to be used for L1 beam measurements on active serving cells and non-serving cells of the LTM candidate cells.

[0042] Particular aspects of the subject matter described in this disclosure can be implemented to realize one or more of the following potential advantages. In some examples, by defining Rx-beam level specific L1 beam measurement accuracy tolerances, the described techniques can be used to achieve tighter error tolerances, resulting in increased reliability of L1 beam measurements reported by UEs. In some examples, by defining the plurality of Rx-beam levels based on otherwise associated with antenna array gains, the described techniques can be used to group Rx-beam levels associated with similar antenna gains without having to differentiate between specific Rx-beam designs used by different UEs, resulting in increased efficiency for UEs in determining the Rx-beam levels.

[0043] In some examples, by the UE indicating the Rx-beam level associated with L1 beam measurements performed by the UE to the network node, the network node may have increased visibility to different Rx-beam levels used by different UEs. In some examples, by the UE reporting the Rx-beam level ID that indicates the Rx-beam level that is defined based on or otherwise associated with an array gain, the UE is enabled to share the Rx-beam level information with the network node without requiring the UE to reveal the specific Rx-beam design being used by the UE.

[0044] In some examples, by training an AI / ML model associated with a particular Rx-beam level ID using training data (for example L1 beam measurements) associated with the Rx-beam level ID, the amount of training data required for training the AI / ML model may be reduced resulting in increased training efficiency and reduced network resource consumption for collecting the training data. In some examples, by training separate AI / ML models for beam prediction that are associated with different Rx-beam levels which are associated with the respective Rx-beam level specific L1 beam measurement accuracies, accuracy of each separate AI / ML model may be increased as compared with an AI / ML model trained using L1 beam measurements associated with different Rx-beam  levels that are unknown to the network node. In some examples, by selecting an AI / ML model to use for beam prediction based on or otherwise associated with the Rx-beam level ID reported for the L1 beam measurements to be input to the AI / ML model, accuracy of the inference using the AI / ML model is increased, resulting in increased accuracy of beam prediction and / or beam management using the AI / ML model.

[0045] In some examples, by requesting that the UE apply a certain Rx-beam level ID to L1 beam measurements to be reported by the UE, the network node can ensure increase efficiency and decrease signaling overhead by requesting only the type of L1 beam measurement data that useful to the network node at a given time. In some examples, by requesting that the UE apply a certain Rx-beam level ID for the L1 beam measurements in connection with the network node being equipped with an AI / ML model associated with that Rx-beam level ID, the network node may be equipped with a single AI / ML model or a limited quantity of AI / ML models, which may reduce consumption of processing resources and memory resources at the network node as compared with equipping the network node with a larger quantity of AI / ML models associated with different Rx-beam level IDs. In some examples, by requesting L1 beam measurements associated with a particular Rx-beam level ID to be used as training data to train an AI / ML model associated with that Rx-beam level ID, the network node may perform dedicated collection of training data to be used for training a particular AI / ML model, which may increase efficiency associated with training the AI / ML model and increase accuracy of the resulting trained AI / ML model.

[0046] In some examples, by the network node transmitting, to the UE, a request for the UE to apply an Rx-beam level ID to L1 beam measurements for LTM candidate cells, inconsistent usage of Rx-beam levels for L1 beam measurements across active serving cells and non-serving cells of the LTM candidate cells may be reduced, which may decrease inaccurate LTM cell switching.

[0047] Multiple-access radio access technologies (RATs) have been adopted in various telecommunication standards to provide common protocols that enable wireless communication devices to communicate on a municipal, enterprise, national, regional, or global level. For example, 5G New Radio (NR) is part of a continuous mobile broadband evolution promulgated by the 3GPP. 5G NR supports various technologies and use cases including enhanced mobile broadband (eMBB) , ultra-reliable low-latency communication (URLLC) , massive machine-type communication (mMTC) , millimeter wave (mmWave)  technology, beamforming, network slicing, edge computing, Internet of Things (IoT) connectivity and management, and network function virtualization (NFV) .

[0048] As the demand for broadband access increases and as technologies supported by wireless communication networks evolve, further technological improvements may be adopted in or implemented for 5G NR or future RATs, such as 6G, to further advance the evolution of wireless communication for a wide variety of existing and new use cases and applications. Such technological improvements may be associated with new frequency band expansion, licensed and unlicensed spectrum access, overlapping spectrum use, small cell deployments, non-terrestrial network (NTN) deployments, disaggregated network architectures and network topology expansion, device aggregation, advanced duplex communication, sidelink and other device-to-device direct communication, IoT (including passive or ambient IoT) networks, reduced capability (RedCap) UE functionality, industrial connectivity, multiple-subscriber implementations, high-precision positioning, radio frequency (RF) sensing, and / or AI / ML, among other examples. These technological improvements may support use cases such as wireless backhauls, wireless data centers, extended reality (XR) and metaverse applications, meta services for supporting vehicle connectivity, holographic and mixed reality communication, autonomous and collaborative robots, vehicle platooning and cooperative maneuvering, sensing networks, gesture monitoring, human-brain interfacing, digital twin applications, asset management, and universal coverage applications using non-terrestrial and / or aerial platforms, among other examples. The methods, operations, apparatuses, and techniques described herein may enable one or more of the foregoing technologies and / or support one or more of the foregoing use cases.

[0049] Figure 1 is a diagram illustrating an example of a wireless communication network 100 in accordance with the present disclosure. The wireless communication network 100 may be or may include elements of a 5G (or NR) network or a 6G network, among other examples. The wireless communication network 100 may include multiple network nodes 110, shown as a network node (NN) 110a, a network node 110b, a network node 110c, and a network node 110d. The network nodes 110 may support communications with multiple UEs 120, shown as a UE 120a, a UE 120b, a UE 120c, a UE 120d, and a UE 120e.

[0050] The network nodes 110 and the UEs 120 of the wireless communication network 100 may communicate using the electromagnetic spectrum, which may be subdivided by frequency or wavelength into various classes, bands, carriers, and / or  channels. For example, devices of the wireless communication network 100 may communicate using one or more operating bands. In some aspects, multiple wireless networks 100 may be deployed in a given geographic area. Each wireless communication network 100 may support a particular radio access technology (RAT) (which may also be referred to as an air interface) and may operate on one or more carrier frequencies in one or more frequency ranges. Examples of RATs include a 4G RAT, a 5G / NR RAT, and / or a 6G RAT, among other examples. In some examples, when multiple RATs are deployed in a given geographic area, each RAT in the geographic area may operate on different frequencies to avoid interference with one another.

[0051] Various operating bands have been defined as frequency range designations FR1 (410 MHz through 7.125 GHz) , FR2 (24.25 GHz through 52.6 GHz) , FR3 (7.125 GHz through 24.25 GHz) , FR4a or FR4-1 (52.6 GHz through 71 GHz) , FR4 (52.6 GHz through 114.25 GHz) , and FR5 (114.25 GHz through 300 GHz) . Although a portion of FR1 is greater than 6 GHz, FR1 is often referred to (interchangeably) as a “Sub-6 GHz” band in some documents and articles. Similarly, FR2 is often referred to (interchangeably) as a “millimeter wave” band in some documents and articles, despite being different than the extremely high frequency (EHF) band (30 GHz through 300 GHz) , which is identified by the International Telecommunications Union (ITU) as a “millimeter wave” band. The frequencies between FR1 and FR2 are often referred to as mid-band frequencies, which include FR3. Frequency bands falling within FR3 may inherit FR1 characteristics or FR2 characteristics, and thus may effectively extend features of FR1 or FR2 into mid-band frequencies. Thus, “sub-6 GHz, ” if used herein, may broadly refer to frequencies that are less than 6 GHz, that are within FR1, and / or that are included in mid-band frequencies. Similarly, the term “millimeter wave, ” if used herein, may broadly refer to frequencies that are included in mid-band frequencies, that are within FR2, FR4, FR4-a or FR4-1, or FR5, and / or that are within the EHF band. Higher frequency bands may extend 5G NR operation, 6G operation, and / or other RATs beyond 52.6 GHz. For example, each of FR4a, FR4-1, FR4, and FR5 falls within the EHF band. In some examples, the wireless communication network 100 may implement dynamic spectrum sharing (DSS) , in which multiple RATs (for example, 4G / LTE and 5G / NR) are implemented with dynamic bandwidth allocation (for example, based on user demand) in a single frequency band. It is contemplated that the frequencies included in these operating bands (for example, FR1, FR2, FR3, FR4, FR4-a, FR4-1, and / or FR5)  may be modified, and techniques described herein may be applicable to those modified frequency ranges.

[0052] A network node 110 may include one or more devices, components, or systems that enable communication between a UE 120 and one or more devices, components, or systems of the wireless communication network 100. A network node 110 may be, may include, or may also be referred to as an NR network node, a 5G network node, a 6G network node, a Node B, an eNB, a gNB, an access point (AP) , a transmission reception point (TRP) , a mobility element, a core, a network entity, a network element, a network equipment, and / or another type of device, component, or system included in a radio access network (RAN) .

[0053] Anetwork node 110 may be implemented as a single physical node (for example, a single physical structure) or may be implemented as two or more physical nodes (for example, two or more distinct physical structures) . For example, a network node 110 may be a device or system that implements part of a radio protocol stack, a device or system that implements a full radio protocol stack (such as a full gNB protocol stack) , or a collection of devices or systems that collectively implement the full radio protocol stack. For example, and as shown, a network node 110 may be an aggregated network node (having an aggregated architecture) , meaning that the network node 110 may implement a full radio protocol stack that is physically and logically integrated within a single node (for example, a single physical structure) in the wireless communication network 100. For example, an aggregated network node 110 may consist of a single standalone base station or a single TRP that uses a full radio protocol stack to enable or facilitate communication between a UE 120 and a core network of the wireless communication network 100.

[0054] Alternatively, and as also shown, a network node 110 may be a disaggregated network node (sometimes referred to as a disaggregated base station) , meaning that the network node 110 may implement a radio protocol stack that is physically distributed and / or logically distributed among two or more nodes in the same geographic location or in different geographic locations. For example, a disaggregated network node may have a disaggregated architecture. In some deployments, disaggregated network nodes 110 may be used in an integrated access and backhaul (IAB) network, in an open radio access network (O-RAN) (such as a network configuration in compliance with the O-RAN Alliance) , or in a virtualized radio access network (vRAN) , also known as a cloud radio  access network (C-RAN) , to facilitate scaling by separating base station functionality into multiple units that can be individually deployed.

[0055] The network nodes 110 of the wireless communication network 100 may include one or more central units (CUs) , one or more distributed units (DUs) , and / or one or more radio units (RUs) . A CU may host one or more higher layer control functions, such as radio resource control (RRC) functions, packet data convergence protocol (PDCP) functions, and / or service data adaptation protocol (SDAP) functions, among other examples. A DU may host one or more of a radio link control (RLC) layer, a medium access control (MAC) layer, and / or one or more higher physical (PHY) layers depending, at least in part, on a functional split, such as a functional split defined by the 3GPP. In some examples, a DU also may host one or more lower PHY layer functions, such as a fast Fourier transform (FFT) , an inverse FFT (iFFT) , beamforming, physical random access channel (PRACH) extraction and filtering, and / or scheduling of resources for one or more UEs 120, among other examples. An RU may host RF processing functions or lower PHY layer functions, such as an FFT, an iFFT, beamforming, or PRACH extraction and filtering, among other examples, according to a functional split, such as a lower layer functional split. In such an architecture, each RU can be operated to handle over the air (OTA) communication with one or more UEs 120.

[0056] In some aspects, a single network node 110 may include a combination of one or more CUs, one or more DUs, and / or one or more RUs. Additionally or alternatively, a network node 110 may include one or more Near-Real Time (Near-RT) RAN Intelligent Controllers (RICs) and / or one or more Non-Real Time (Non-RT) RICs. In some examples, a CU, a DU, and / or an RU may be implemented as a virtual unit, such as a virtual central unit (VCU) , a virtual distributed unit (VDU) , or a virtual radio unit (VRU) , among other examples. A virtual unit may be implemented as a virtual network function, such as associated with a cloud deployment.

[0057] Some network nodes 110 (for example, a base station, an RU, or a TRP) may provide communication coverage for a particular geographic area. In the 3GPP, the term “cell” can refer to a coverage area of a network node 110 or to a network node 110 itself, depending on the context in which the term is used. A network node 110 may support one or multiple (for example, three) cells. In some examples, a network node 110 may provide communication coverage for a macro cell, a pico cell, a femto cell, or another type of cell. A macro cell may cover a relatively large geographic area (for example, several kilometers in radius) and may allow unrestricted access by UEs 120 with service  subscriptions. A pico cell may cover a relatively small geographic area and may allow unrestricted access by UEs 120 with service subscriptions. A femto cell may cover a relatively small geographic area (for example, a home) and may allow restricted access by UEs 120 having association with the femto cell (for example, UEs 120 in a closed subscriber group (CSG) ) . A network node 110 for a macro cell may be referred to as a macro network node. A network node 110 for a pico cell may be referred to as a pico network node. A network node 110 for a femto cell may be referred to as a femto network node or an in-home network node.

[0058] The wireless communication network 100 may be a heterogeneous network that includes network nodes 110 of different types, such as macro network nodes, pico network nodes, femto network nodes, relay network nodes, aggregated network nodes, and / or disaggregated network nodes, among other examples. In the example shown in Figure 1, the network node 110a may be a macro network node for a macro cell 130a, the network node 110b may be a pico network node for a pico cell 130b, and the network node 110c may be a femto network node for a femto cell 130c. Various different types of network nodes 110 may generally transmit at different power levels, serve different coverage areas, and / or have different impacts on interference in the wireless communication network 100 than other types of network nodes 110. For example, macro network nodes may have a high transmit power level (for example, 5 to 40 watts) , whereas pico network nodes, femto network nodes, and relay network nodes may have lower transmit power levels (for example, 0.1 to 2 watts) .

[0059] In some examples, a network node 110 may be, may include, or may operate as an RU, a TRP, or a base station that communicates with one or more UEs 120 via a radio access link (which may be referred to as a “Uu” link) . The radio access link may include a downlink and an uplink. “Downlink” (or “DL” ) refers to a communication direction from a network node 110 to a UE 120, and “uplink” (or “UL” ) refers to a communication direction from a UE 120 to a network node 110.

[0060] In some examples, any network node 110 that relays communications may be referred to as a relay network node, a relay station, or simply as a relay. A relay may receive a transmission of a communication from an upstream station (for example, another network node 110 or a UE 120) and transmit the communication to a downstream station (for example, a UE 120 or another network node 110) . In this case, the wireless communication network 100 may include or be referred to as a “multi-hop network. ” In the example shown in Figure 1, the network node 110d (for example, a relay network  node) may communicate with the network node 110a (for example, a macro network node) and the UE 120d in order to facilitate communication between the network node 110a and the UE 120d. Additionally or alternatively, a UE 120 may be or may operate as a relay station that can relay transmissions to or from other UEs 120. A UE 120 that relays communications may be referred to as a UE relay or a relay UE, among other examples.

[0061] The UEs 120 may be physically dispersed throughout the wireless communication network 100, and each UE 120 may be stationary or mobile. A UE 120 may be, may include, or may be included in an access terminal, another terminal, a mobile station, or a subscriber unit. A UE 120 may be, include, or be coupled with a cellular phone (for example, a smart phone) , a personal digital assistant (PDA) , a wireless modem, a wireless communication device, a handheld device, a laptop computer, a cordless phone, a wireless local loop (WLL) station, a tablet, a camera, a gaming device, a netbook, a smartbook, an ultrabook, a medical device, a biometric device, a wearable device (for example, a smart watch, smart clothing, smart glasses, a smart wristband, and / or smart jewelry, such as a smart ring or a smart bracelet) , an entertainment device (for example, a music device, a video device, and / or a satellite radio) , an extended reality (XR) device, a vehicular component or sensor, a smart meter or sensor, industrial manufacturing equipment, a Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) device (such as a Global Positioning System device or another type of positioning device) , a UE function of a network node, and / or any other suitable device or function that may communicate via a wireless medium.

[0062] AUE 120 and / or a network node 110 may include one or more chips, system-on-chips (SoCs) , chipsets, packages, or devices that individually or collectively constitute or comprise a processing system. The processing system includes processor (or “processing” ) circuitry in the form of one or multiple processors, microprocessors, processing units (such as central processing units (CPUs) , graphics processing units (GPUs) , neural processing units (NPUs) and / or digital signal processors (DSPs) ) , processing blocks, application-specific integrated circuits (ASIC) , programmable logic devices (PLDs) (such as field programmable gate arrays (FPGAs) ) , or other discrete gate or transistor logic or circuitry (all of which may be generally referred to herein individually as “processors” or collectively as “the processor” or “the processor circuitry” ) . One or more of the processors may be individually or collectively configurable or configured to perform various functions or operations described herein.  A group of processors collectively configurable or configured to perform a set of functions may include a first processor configurable or configured to perform a first function of the set and a second processor configurable or configured to perform a second function of the set, or may include the group of processors all being configured or configurable to perform the set of functions.

[0063] The processing system may further include memory circuitry in the form of one or more memory devices, memory blocks, memory elements or other discrete gate or transistor logic or circuitry, each of which may include tangible storage media such as random-access memory (RAM) or read-only memory (ROM) , or combinations thereof (all of which may be generally referred to herein individually as “memories” or collectively as “the memory” or “the memory circuitry” ) . One or more of the memories may be coupled (for example, operatively coupled, communicatively coupled, electronically coupled, or electrically coupled) with one or more of the processors and may individually or collectively store processor-executable code (such as software) that, when executed by one or more of the processors, may configure one or more of the processors to perform various functions or operations described herein. Additionally or alternatively, in some examples, one or more of the processors may be preconfigured to perform various functions or operations described herein without requiring configuration by software. The processing system may further include or be coupled with one or more modems (such as a Wi-Fi (for example, IEEE compliant) modem or a cellular (for example, 3GPP 4G LTE, 5G, or 6G compliant) modem) . In some implementations, one or more processors of the processing system include or implement one or more of the modems. The processing system may further include or be coupled with multiple radios (collectively “the radio” ) , multiple RF chains, or multiple transceivers, each of which may in turn be coupled with one or more of multiple antennas. In some implementations, one or more processors of the processing system include or implement one or more of the radios, RF chains or transceivers. The UE 120 may include or may be included in a housing that houses components associated with the UE 120 including the processing system.

[0064] In some examples, two or more UEs 120 (for example, shown as UE 120a and UE 120e) may communicate directly with one another using sidelink communications (for example, without communicating by way of a network node 110 as an intermediary) . As an example, the UE 120a may directly transmit data, control information, or other signaling as a sidelink communication to the UE 120e. This is in contrast to, for example,  the UE 120a first transmitting data in an UL communication to a network node 110, which then transmits the data to the UE 120e in a DL communication.

[0065] In some aspects, the UE 120 may include a communication manager 140. As described in more detail elsewhere herein, the communication manager 140 may receive, from a network node, a request to report one or more L1 beam measurements for one or more beams; transmit, to the network node, the one or more L1 beam measurements for the one or more beams, the one or more L1 beam measurements being associated with an Rx-beam level of a plurality of Rx-beam levels associated with respective L1 beam measurement accuracy tolerances; and communicate, with the network node, an Rx-beam level ID indicating the Rx-beam level associated with the one or more L1 beam measurements. Additionally or alternatively, the communication manager 140 may perform one or more other operations described herein.

[0085] In some aspects, a UE (for example, the UE 120) includes means for receiving, from a network node, a request to report one or more L1 beam measurements for one or more beams; means for transmitting, to the network node, the one or more L1 beam measurements for the one or more beams, the one or more L1 beam measurements being associated with an Rx-beam level of a plurality of Rx-beam levels associated with respective L1 beam measurement accuracy tolerances; and / or means for communicating, with the network node, an Rx-beam level ID indicating the Rx-beam level associated with the one or more L1 beam measurements. The means for the UE to perform operations described herein may include, for example, one or more of communication manager 140, antenna 252, modem 254, MIMO detector 256, receive processor 258, transmit processor 264, TX MIMO processor 266, controller / processor 280, or memory 282.

[0086] In some aspects, a network node (for example, the network node 110) includes means for transmitting, to a UE, a request to report one or more L1 beam measurements for a first set of beams; means for receiving, from the UE, the one or more L1 beam  measurements for the first set of beams, the one or more L1 beam measurements being associated with an Rx-beam level of a plurality of Rx-beam levels associated with respective L1 beam measurement accuracy tolerances; and / or means for communicating, with the UE, an Rx-beam level ID indicating the Rx-beam level associated with the one or more L1 beam measurements. The means for the network node to perform operations described herein may include, for example, one or more of communication manager 150, transmit processor 220, TX MIMO processor 230, modem 232, antenna 234, MIMO detector 236, receive processor 238, controller / processor 240, memory 242, or scheduler 246.

[0087] Figure 3 is a diagram illustrating an example architecture 300 of a functional framework for RAN intelligence enabled by data collection, in accordance with the present disclosure. In some scenarios, the functional framework for RAN intelligence may be enabled by further enhancement of data collection through use cases and / or examples. For example, principles or algorithms for RAN intelligence enabled by AI / ML and the associated functional framework (for example, the AI functionality and / or the input / output of the component for AI enabled optimization) have been utilized or studied to identify the benefits of AI enabled RAN through possible use cases (for example, beam management, energy saving, load balancing, mobility management, and / or coverage optimization, among other examples) . In one example, as shown by the architecture 300, a functional framework for RAN intelligence may include multiple logical entities, such as a model training host 302, a model inference host 304, data sources 306, and an actor 308.

[0088] The model inference host 304 may be configured to run an AI / ML model based on inference data provided by the data sources 306, and the model inference host 304 may produce an output (for example, a prediction) with the inference data input to the actor 308. The actor 308 may be an element or an entity of a core network or a RAN. For example, the actor 308 may be a UE, a network node, base station (for example, a gNB) , a CU, a DU, and / or an RU, among other examples. In addition, the actor 308 may also depend on the type of tasks performed by the model inference host 304, type of inference data provided to the model inference host 304, and / or type of output produced by the model inference host 304. For example, if the output from the model inference host 304 is associated with beam management, the actor 308 may be a UE, a DU or an RU; whereas if the output from the model inference host 304 is associated with Tx / Rx scheduling, the actor 308 may be a CU or a DU.

[0089] After the actor 308 receives an output from the model inference host 304, the actor 308 may determine whether to act based on the output. For example, if the actor 308 is a DU or an RU and the output from the model inference host 304 is associated with beam management, the actor 308 may determine whether to change / modify a Tx / Rx beam based on the output. If the actor 308 determines to act based on the output, the actor 308 may indicate the action to at least one subject of action 310. For example, if the actor 308 determines to change / modify a Tx / Rx beam for a communication between the actor 308 and the subject of action 310 (for example, a UE 120) , then the actor 308 may transmit a beam (re-) configuration or a beam switching indication to the subject of action 310. The actor 308 may modify its Tx / Rx beam based on the beam (re-) configuration, such as switching to a new Tx / Rx beam or applying different parameters for a Tx / Rx beam, among other examples. As another example, the actor 308 may be a UE and the output from the model inference host 304 may be associated with beam management. For example, the output may be one or more predicted measurement values for one or more beams. The actor 308 (for example, a UE) may determine that a measurement report (for example, an L1 RSRP report) is to be transmitted to a network node 110.

[0090] The data sources 306 may also be configured for collecting data that is used as training data for training an ML model or as inference data for feeding an ML model inference operation. For example, the data sources 306 may collect data from one or more core network and / or RAN entities, which may include the subject of action 310, and provide the collected data to the model training host 302 for ML model training. For example, after a subject of action 310 (for example, a UE 120) receives a beam configuration from the actor 308, the subject of action 310 may provide performance feedback associated with the beam configuration to the data sources 306, where the performance feedback may be used by the model training host 302 for monitoring or evaluating the ML model performance, such as whether the output (for example, prediction) provided to the actor 308 is accurate. In some examples, if the output provided by the actor 308 is inaccurate (or the accuracy is below an accuracy threshold) , then the model training host 302 may determine to modify or retrain the ML model used by the model inference host, such as via an ML model deployment / update.

[0091] Figure 4 is a diagram illustrating an example 400 of an AI / ML based beam management, in accordance with the present disclosure. As shown in Figure 4, an AI / ML model 410 may be deployed at or on a network node 110. For example, a model inference host (such as a model inference host 304) may be deployed at, or on, a network  node 110. The AI / ML model 410 may enable the network node 110 to determine one or more inferences or predictions based on data input to the AI / ML model 410.

[0092] For example, as shown by reference number 415, an input to the AI / ML model 410 may include measurements associated with a first set of beams. For example, a network node 110 may transmit one or more signals via respective beams from the first set of beams. A UE 120 may perform measurements (for example, L1 RSRP measurements, L1 SINR measurement, or other measurements) of the first set of beams to obtain a first set of measurements. For example, each beam, from the first set of beams, may be associated with one or more measurements performed by the UE 120. The UE 120 may transmit the first set of measurements (for example, L1 RSRP measurement values or L1 SINR measurement values) to the network node 110, and the network node may input the first set of measurements into the AI / ML model 410 along with information associated with the first set of beams and / or a second set of beams, such as a beam direction (for example, spatial direction) , beam width, beam shape, and / or other characteristics of the respective beams from the first set of beams and / or the second set of beams.

[0093] As shown by reference number 420, the AI / ML model 410 may output one or more predictions. The one or more predictions may include predicted measurement values (for example, predicted L1 RSRP measurement values or predicted L1 SINR measurement values) associated with the second set of beams. This may reduce a quantity of beam measurements that are performed by the UE 120, thereby conserving power of the UE 120 and / or network resources that would have otherwise been used to measure all beams included in the first set of beams and the second set of beams and report all of the beam measurements for the first set of beams and the second set of beams. This type of prediction may be referred to as a codebook-based spatial domain selection or prediction.

[0094] As another example, an output of the AI / ML model 410 may include a point-direction, an angle of departure (AoD) , and / or an angle of arrival (AoA) of a beam included in the second set of beams. This type of prediction may be referred to as a non-codebook-based spatial domain selection or prediction. As another example, multiple measurement reports or values, collected at different points in time, may be input to the AI / ML model 410. This may enable the AI / ML model 410 to output codebook-based and / or non-codebook-based predictions for a measurement value, an AoD, and / or an AoA, among other examples, of a beam at a future time. The output (s) of the AI / ML  model 410, as described herein, may facilitate initial access procedures, secondary cell group (SCG) setup procedures, beam refinement procedures, link quality or interference adaptation procedures, beam failure and / or beam blockage predictions, and / or radio link failure predictions, among other examples.

[0095] In some examples, the first set of beams (for example, that are measured) may be referred to as Set B beams and the second set of beams (for example, that are associated with predicted measurements) may be referred to as Set A beams. In some examples, the first set of beams (for example, the Set B beams) may be a subset of the second set of beams (for example, the Set A beams) . In some other examples, the first set of beams and the second set of beams may be different beams and / or may be mutually exclusive sets. For example, the first set of beams (for example, the Set B beams) may include wide beams (for example, unrefined beams or beams having a beam width that satisfies a first threshold) and the second set of beams (for example, the Set A beams) may include narrow beams (for example, refined beams or beams having a beam width that satisfies a second threshold) . In one example, the AI / ML model 410 may perform spatial-domain downlink beam predictions for beams included in the Set A beams based on measurement results of beams included in the Set B beams. As another example, the AI / ML model 410 may perform temporal downlink beam prediction for beams included in the Set A beams based on historic measurement results of beams included in the Set B beams.

[0096] Figure 5 is a diagram illustrating an example 500 associated with Rx-beam levels and Rx-beam level specific L1 beam measurement accuracy tolerances, in accordance with the present disclosure.

[0097] As shown in Figure 5, and by reference number 505, a plurality of Rx-beam levels may be defined. The plurality of Rx-beam levels define Rx-beam levels for a UE that are based on or otherwise associated with a quantity of active antenna elements of an antenna array of the UE that are used by the UE for an Rx-beam. In some aspects, the plurality of Rx-beam levels may correspond to UE Rx-beam antenna array gains that are based on or otherwise associated with the quantity of active antenna elements of an antenna array of a UE. In some aspects, the plurality of Rx-beam levels may be associated with respective L1 beam measurement accuracy tolerances. For example, each Rx-beam level, of the plurality of Rx-beam levels, may be associated with a respective Rx-beam level specific measurement accuracy tolerance for an L1 beam measurement (for example, an L1 RSRP measurement or an L1 SINR measurement) . A measurement  accuracy tolerance for an L1 beam measurement may define an accuracy requirement for a UE performing the L1 beam measurement. In some aspects, the plurality of Rx-beam levels and the respective L1 beam measurement accuracy tolerances may be predefined for a UE. In some aspects, the plurality of Rx-beam levels and the respective L1 beam measurement accuracy tolerances may be defined (or predefined) and / or specified in a wireless communication standard (for example, a 3GPP wireless communication standard) . In some aspects, each of the Rx-beam levels may be associated with a respective Rx-beam level ID (or index) . For example, the respective Rx-beam level IDs (or indexes) for the plurality of Rx-beam levels may be specified in the wireless communication standard (for example, the 3GPP wireless communication standard) .

[0098] In some aspects, the respective L1 beam measurement tolerances associated with the plurality of Rx-beam levels may include respective L1 RSRP beam measurement tolerances. For example, each Rx-beam level, of the plurality of Rx-beam levels, may be associated with a respective Rx-beam level specific L1 RSRP absolute accuracy tolerance and / or a respective Rx-beam level specific L1 RSRP relative accuracy tolerance. Additionally or alternatively, the respective L1 beam measurement tolerances associated with the plurality of Rx-beam levels may include respective L1 SINR beam measurement tolerances. For example, each Rx-beam level, of the plurality of Rx-beam levels, may be associated with a respective Rx-beam level specific L1 SINR absolute accuracy tolerance and / or a respective Rx-beam level specific L1 SINR relative accuracy tolerance. In some aspects, the respective L1 beam measurement tolerances associated with the plurality of Rx-beam levels may include different respective L1 beam measurement tolerance (for example, L1 RSRP accuracy tolerances and / or L1 SINR accuracy tolerances) for SSB-based L1 beam measurements and CSI-RS-based L1 beam measurements. In some aspects, the respective Rx-beam level specific L1 beam measurement accuracy tolerances associated with the plurality of Rx-beam levels may be stricter (for example, smaller accuracy tolerances) than current L1 beam measurement accuracy tolerances that are defined specific to different Rx-beam levels.

[0099] In the example of Figure 5, the plurality of Rx-beam levels is shown as including four Rx-beam levels (Rx-beam level #0, Rx-beam level #1, Rx-beam level #2, and Rx-beam level #3) that correspond to different quantities of active antenna elements. For example, Rx-beam level #0 may correspond to 1 active antenna element, Rx-beam level #1 may correspond to 2 active antenna elements, Rx-beam level #2 may correspond to 3 active antenna elements, and Rx-beam level #3 may correspond to 4 active antenna  elements. Figure 5 shows an example 510 of defining the plurality of Rx-beam levels and the respective L1 beam measurement accuracy tolerances associated with the plurality of Rx-beam levels. In example 510, Rx-beam level #0, Rx-beam level #1, Rx-beam level #3, and Rx-beam level #4, are defined, as well as respective Rx-beam level specific L1 RSRP measurement accuracy tolerances for Rx-beam level #0, Rx-beam level #1, Rx-beam level #3, and Rx-beam level #4.

[0100] As shown by reference number 512, a reference Rx-beam level (also referred to as a “golden Rx-beam level” ) an array gain associated with the reference Rx-beam level may be defined in accordance with a quantity of active antenna elements associated with the reference Rx-beam level. For example, the reference Rx-beam level (Rx-beam level #1) may be associated with 2 active antenna elements. The array gain (for example 3 dB array gain) may be determined as an array gain associated with an L1 RSRP measurement performed by a reference UE (also referred to as a “golden UE” ) using 2 active antenna elements.

[0101] As shown by reference number 514, a first L1 RSRP measurement accuracy tolerance, associated with the reference Rx-beam level may be defined. The first L1 RSRP measurement accuracy tolerance may be L1 RSRP measurement accuracy requirement to be met by a UE applying the reference Rx-beam level (for example, Rx-beam level #1) . The first L1 RSRP measurement accuracy tolerance may be based on at least one of relative accuracy or absolute accuracy. In some examples, a UE applying the reference Rx-beam level may be required to meet (for example, shall meet) the first L1 RSRP measurement accuracy tolerance / requirement, which can be based on at least one of relative accuracy or absolute accuracy. For example, the first L1 RSRP measurement accuracy tolerance may be ± 0.5 dB relative to the L1 RSRP measurement by the reference UE. In such an example, for a UE applying an Rx-beam level using 2 active antenna elements to determine the measured L1 RSRP, the relative accuracy of the measured L1 RSRP should be within ± 0.5 dB in comparison with the L1 RSRP measurement determined by the reference UE applying the reference Rx-beam level.

[0102] Additional Rx-beam levels may then be defined based on or otherwise associated with respective array gain offsets with respect to the array gain of the reference Rx-beam level. For example, as shown by reference number 516, Rx-beam level #0 (corresponding to 1 active antenna element) may be defined in accordance with an array gain offset of -3 dB with respect to the array gain (3 dB) of the reference Rx-beam level. As shown by reference number 518, Rx-beam level #2 (corresponding to 3 active antenna  elements) may be defined in accordance with an array gain offset of +1.76 dB with respect to the array gain (3 dB) of the reference Rx-beam level. As shown by reference number 520, Rx-beam level #3 (corresponding to 4 active antenna element1) may be defined in accordance with an array gain offset of +3 dB with respect to the array gain (3 dB) of the reference Rx-beam level.

[0103] Respective L1 RSRP measurement accuracy tolerances (shown by reference numbers 522, 524, and 526) associated the Rx-beam levels other than the reference Rx-beam level may be defined. The respective L1 RSRP measurement accuracy tolerances may be respective L1 RSRP measurement accuracy requirements to be met by a UE applying the additional Rx-beam levels other than reference Rx-beam level. The respective L1 RSRP measurement accuracy tolerances may be based on at least one of relative accuracy or absolute accuracy. In some examples, a UE applying the additional Rx-beam levels other than the reference Rx-beam level may be required to meet (for example, shall meet) the respective L1 RSRP measurement accuracy tolerances, which can be based on at least one of relative accuracy or absolute accuracy. In some aspects, the respective L1 RSRP measurement accuracy tolerances associated with the additional Rx-beam levels may be based on or otherwise associated with the respective array gain offsets with respect to the reference Rx-beam level. For example, as shown by reference number 522, for a UE applying Rx-beam level #0 (using 1 active antenna element) to determine the measured L1 RSRP, the relative accuracy of the measured L1 RSRP should be within -3 dB ± 0.5 dB in comparison with the L1 RSRP measurement determined by the reference UE applying the reference Rx-beam level. As shown by reference number 524, for a UE applying Rx-beam level #2 (using 3 active antenna elements) to determine the measured L1 RSRP, the relative accuracy of the measured L1 RSRP should be within +1.76 dB ± 0.5 dB in comparison with the L1 RSRP measurement determined by the reference UE applying the reference Rx-beam level. As shown by reference number 526, for a UE applying Rx-beam level #3 (using 4 active antenna elements) to determine the measured L1 RSRP, the relative accuracy of the measured L1 RSRP should be within +3 dB ± 0.5 dB in comparison with the L1 RSRP measurement determined by the reference UE applying the reference Rx-beam level.

[0104] In some aspects, the different Rx-beam levels may be associated with different relative and / or absolute L1 RSRP measurement accuracy tolerances. For example, the L1 RSRP measurement accuracy tolerance for Rx-beam level #0 may be -3 dB ± 0.3 dB, the L1 RSRP measurement accuracy tolerance for Rx-beam level #1 may be 0 dB ± 0.4 dB,  the L1 RSRP measurement accuracy tolerance for Rx-beam level #2 may be +1.76 dB ±0.5 dB, and the L1 RSRP measurement accuracy tolerance for Rx-beam level #3 may be +3 dB ± 0.6 dB. In this example, L1 RSRP measurement accuracy tolerances increase with the quantity of antenna elements due to the potential that more involved antenna elements can introduce more errors. In some aspects, the highest and / or lowest Rx-beam levels may be associated with asymmetric L1 RSRP measurement accuracy tolerances. For example, the relative L1 RSRP measurement accuracy for Rx-beam level #0 may be 3 dB + 0.5 dB.

[0105] Figure 6 is a diagram illustrating an example 600 associated with testing a UE for compliance with Rx-beam level specific L1 beam measurement accuracy tolerances, in accordance with the present disclosure. As shown in Figure 6, example 600 includes a UE 120 and a test equipment 602. The test equipment 602 may be a network node or another wireless communication capable of communicating with the UE 120 over an air interface (for example, a Uu interface) associated with communications between the UE 120 and a network node. Example 600 shows an example of testing accuracy of L1 RSRP measurements performed by the UE 120. In other examples, the testing described herein may be similarly performed to test other L1 beam measurements (for example, L1 SINR measurements) performed by the UE 120.

[0106] As shown in Figure 6, in a first operation 605, the test equipment 602 may transmit, and the UE 120 may receive, an indication of an Rx-beam level ID to be used for a current test of the UE 120. The Rx-beam level ID may identify an Rx-beam level of a plurality of Rx-beam levels that are associated with respective L1 measurement accuracy tolerances, as discussed above in connection with Figure 5. In some aspects, the test equipment 602 may signal the Rx-beam level ID based on or otherwise in accordance with the air interface associated with communications between the UE 120 and a network node. For example, the air interface may be specified in accordance with a wireless communication standard (for example, a 3GPP wireless communication standard) . In some examples, the test equipment 602 may indicate the Rx-beam level ID to be used for the current test (for performing L1 RSRP measurements) in a CSI report setting that indicates a report quantity that includes L1 RSRP measurements. In some examples, the test equipment 602 may indicate the Rx-beam level ID to be used for the current test in a MAC-CE activation command for activating a CSI report (for example, a semi-persistent CSI report) . In some examples, the test equipment 602 may indicate the Rx-beam level ID to be used for the current test in configuration information associated with an  aperiodic CSI report (for example, in a CSI-AssociatedReportConfigInfo information element associated the aperiodic CSI report) .

[0107] As further shown in Figure 6, and by reference number 610, the UE 120 may transmit, and the test equipment 602 may receive, feedback of L1 RSRP measurements for the current test. For example, the test equipment 602 may transmit reference signals (for example, SSBs and / or CSI-RSs) , and the UE 120 may perform L1 RSRP measurements on the reference signals using the Rx-beam level associated with the Rx-beam level ID indicated by the test equipment. The UE 120 may then transmit the L1 RSRP measurements to the test equipment. For example, the UE 120 may transmit, to the test equipment 602, a CSI report that includes the L1 RSRP measurements. The test equipment 602 may compare the L1 RSRP measurements performed by the UE 120 using the Rx-beam level associated with the Rx-beam level ID with RSRP measurements of a reference (or golden) UE performed using a reference (or golden) Rx-beam level to determine whether the L1 RSRP measurement accuracy tolerance associated with the Rx-beam level used by the UE 120 is satisfied. The L1 RSRP measurement accuracy tolerance associated with the Rx-beam level used by the UE 120 may be based on or otherwise associated with an array gain offset between the Rx-beam level used by the UE 120 and the reference Rx-beam level, as discussed in connection with Figure 5. The test equipment 602 may determine whether the UE 120 has passed the current test in connection with the determination of whether the L1 RSRP measurement accuracy tolerance associated with the Rx-beam level used by the UE 120 is satisfied.

[0108] Figure 7 is a diagram illustrating an example 700 associated with UE reporting of L1 beam measurements and one or more Rx-beam level IDs associated with the L1 beam measurements, in accordance with the present disclosure. As shown in Figure 7, a network node 110 (for example, a base station, a CU, a DU, and / or an RU) may communicate with a UE 120. In some aspects, the network node 110 and the UE 120 may be part of a wireless network (for example, the wireless network 100) . The UE 120 and the network node 110 may have established a wireless connection prior to operations shown in Figure 7.

[0109] In some aspects, actions described herein as being performed by a network node 110 may be performed by multiple different network nodes. For example, configuration actions may be performed by a first network node (for example, a CU or a DU) , and radio communication actions may be performed by a second network node (for example, a DU or an RU) . As used herein, the network node 110 “transmitting” a communication to the  UE 120 may refer to a direct transmission (for example, from the network node 110 to the UE 120) or an indirect transmission via one or more other network nodes or devices. For example, if the network node 110 is a DU, an indirect transmission to the UE 120 may include the DU transmitting a communication to an RU and the RU transmitting the communication to the UE 120. Similarly, the UE 120 “transmitting” a communication to the network node 110 may refer to a direct transmission (for example, from the UE 120 to the network node 110) or an indirect transmission via one or more other network nodes or devices. For example, if the network node 110 is a DU, an indirect transmission to the network node 110 may include the UE 120 transmitting a communication to an RU and the RU transmitting the communication to the DU.

[0110] As shown in Figure 7, in a first operation 705, the UE 120 may transmit, and the network node 110 may receive, UE capability information. For example, the UE 120 may transmit the UE capability information via RRC signaling. In some aspects, the UE capability information may indicate that the UE 120 supports Rx-beam level ID reporting for L1 beam measurements. In some aspects, the UE capability information may indicate one or more supported Rx-beam levels that can be used by the UE 120 for L1 beam measurements (for example, L1 RSRP measurements and / or L1 SINR measurements) . The one or more supported Rx-beam levels may be one or more Rx-beam levels of a plurality of Rx-beam levels associated with respective L1 beam measurement tolerances, as described above in connection with Figure 5. The plurality of Rx-beam levels, the respective L1 beam measurement tolerances associated with the plurality of Rx-beam levels, and respective Rx-beam level IDs associated the plurality of Rx-beam levels may be preconfigured for the UE 120 and the network node 110. For example, the plurality of Rx-beam levels, the respective L1 beam measurement tolerances, and the respective Rx-beam level IDs may be specified in a wireless communication standard (for example, a 3GPP wireless communication standard) . Each of the plurality of Rx-beam levels may correspond to a respective antenna array gain level associated with a quantity of active antenna elements used by the UE 120 for an Rx-beam. In some examples, the UE capability information may include one or more supported Rx-beam level IDs that indicate the one or more supported Rx-beam levels for the UE 120. In some aspects, the UE capability information may indicate a preferred Rx-beam level, of the plurality of Rx-beam levels, to be used by the UE 120 for L1 beam measurements. For example, the UE capability information may include an Rx-beam level ID that indicates the preferred Rx-beam level to be used by the UE 120 for L1 beam measurements.

[0111] As further shown in Figure 7, in a second operation 710, the network node 110 may transmit, and the UE 120 may receive configuration information. In some aspects, the UE 120 may receive the configuration information via one or more of system information signaling, RRC signaling, one or more MAC-CEs, and / or DCI, among other examples. In some aspects, the configuration information may include an indication of one or more configuration parameters (for example, already stored by the UE 120 and / or previously indicated by the network node 110 or other network device) for selection by the UE 120, and / or explicit configuration information for the UE 120 to use to configure itself, among other examples.

[0112] In some aspects, the configuration information may configure the UE 120 to perform L1 beam measurements and report L1 beam measurements to the network node 110. The configuration information may include a CSI configuration. For example, the CSI configuration may include a CSI report setting and / or a CSI resource setting, among other examples. As another example, the configuration information may include a CSI-ReportConfig configuration and / or a CSI-ResourceConfig configuration, among other examples. The CSI configuration may indicate channel measurement resources (CMRs) to be used by the UE 120 to measure CSI, CMRs for which CSI is to be reported in a CSI report, and / or types of CSI values to be reported in the CSI report, among other examples. The CMRs may be downlink reference signals, such as SSB and / or CSI-RSs.

[0113] In some aspects, the configuration information may indicate one or more candidate configurations and / or communication parameters. In some aspects, the one or more candidate configurations and / or communication parameters may be selected, activated, and / or deactivated by a subsequent indication. In such examples, the network node 110 may transmit, and the UE 120 may receive, a subsequent indication that indicates a candidate configuration and / or communication parameter from the one or more candidate configurations and / or communication parameters. The subsequent indication may include a dynamic indication, such as one or more MAC-CEs and / or one or more DCI messages, among other examples. For example, the network node 110 may transmit, and the UE 120 may receive, a MAC-CE activation command that indicates a selected configuration, among one or more candidate configurations, for semi-persistent CSI report to be activated. As another example, network node 110 may transmit, and the UE 120 may receive, DCI that triggers an aperiodic CSI report with a selected configuration, among one or more candidate configurations.

[0114] The UE 120 may configure itself based at least in part on the configuration information. In some aspects, the UE may be configured to perform one or more operations described herein based at least in part on the configuration information.

[0115] As further shown in Figure 7, in a third operation 715, the network node 110 may transmit, and the UE 120 may receive a request to report L1 beam measurements. For example, the request to report L1 beam measurements may be a request for the UE 120 to report L1 beam measurements for a first set of beams (for example, Set B beams) . The first set of beams may include one or more beams. In some aspects, the network node 110 may request that the UE 120 reports the L1 beam measurements for the first set of beams (for example, Set B beams) to be used for beam prediction (for example, online inference of L1 beam measurements) for a second set of beams (for example, Set A beams) using a trained AI / ML model. In some other aspects, the network node 110 may request that the UE 120 reports the L1 beam measurements for the first set of beams (for example, Set B beams) to be used for training data to train an AI / ML model for beam prediction for a second set of beams (for example, Set B beams) .

[0116] In some aspects, the request to report the L1 beam measurements may indicate the first set of beams to be measured. For example, the request to report the L1 beam measurements may indicate a set of downlink reference signals (for example, SSBs and / or CSI-RSs) for which the L1 beam measurements are to be reported by the UE 120. In some aspects, the request to report the L1 beam measurements may indicate the L1 beam measurements to be reported by the UE 120. For example, the L1 beam measurements to be reported may include L1 RSRP measurements and / or L1 SINR measurements for the first set of beams. In some aspects, the request to report the L1 beam measurements for the first set of beams may include a request for the UE 120 to report an Rx-beam level ID (or Rx-beam level IDs) indicating the Rx-beam level (or Rx-beam levels) associated with the L1 beam measurements.

[0117] In some aspects, the request to report the L1 beam measurements may be a request for the UE 120 to report the L1 beam measurements for the first set of beams via a CSI report. For example, the network node 110 may request that the UE 120 reports the L1 beam measurements via a CSI report for online inference (for example, beam prediction using a trained AI / ML model) and / or for training data collection. In some aspects, the request for the UE 120 to report the L1 beam measurements for the first set of beams via a CSI report may be included the configuration information associated with the CSI report, a MAC-CE activation command that activates the CSI report (for example,  for a semi-persistent CSI report) , or downlink grant DCI that triggers the CSI report (for example, for an aperiodic CSI report) .

[0118] In some aspects, the request to report the L1 beam measurements may be a request for the UE 120 to report the L1 beam measurements for the first set of beams via RRC and / or user plane protocol signaling. For example, the network node 110 may request that the UE 120 reports the L1 beam measurements via a CSI report for training data collection. In such examples, the request to report the L1 beam measurements may be transmitted by the network node 110, and received by the UE 120, via RRC / user plane protocol signaling.

[0119] As further shown in Figure 7, in a fourth operation 720, the UE 120 may perform the L1 beam measurements. The UE 120 may perform the L1 beam measurements for the first set of beams (for example, Set B beams) . For example, the UE 120 may perform the L1 beam measurements on a set of downlink reference signals (for example, SSBs and / or CSI-RSs) that corresponds to the first set of beams. In some examples, the L1 beam measurements performed by the UE 120 for the first set of beams may include L1 RSRP measurements and / or L1 SINR measurements.

[0120] Each L1 beam measurements may be associated with an Rx-beam level, of the plurality of Rx-beam levels, that is used by the UE 120 to perform the L1 beam measurement. The Rx-beam level used by the UE 120 may correspond to the quantity of active antenna elements used by the UE 120 to perform the L1 beam measurement. As discussed elsewhere herein, each Rx-beam level, of the plurality of Rx-beam levels, may be associated with a respective L1 beam measurement accuracy tolerance. In some aspects, each L1 beam measurement performed by UE 120 may satisfy the L1 beam measurement accuracy tolerance associated with the Rx-beam level used by the UE 120 to perform the L1 beam measurement. For example, the UE 120 may be required to comply with the respective L1 beam measurement accuracy tolerances associated with the Rx-beam levels used by the UE 120 to perform the L1 beam measurements, for example in accordance with the testing described in connection with Figure 6. In some aspects, the respective L1 beam measurement accuracy tolerances associated with the plurality of Rx-beam levels may include separate accuracy tolerances for L1 RSRP measurements and L1 SINR measurements for each of the plurality of Rx-beam levels. In some aspects, the respective L1 beam measurement accuracy tolerances associated with the plurality of Rx-beam levels may include separate accuracy tolerances for L1 measurements (for example, L1 RSRP and / or L1 SINR measurements) performed on  SSBs and L1 measurements (for example, L1 RSRP and / or L1 SINR measurements) performed on CSI-RSs.

[0121] In some aspects, the UE 120 may select the Rx-beam level, of the plurality of Rx-beam levels, to use for performing each L1 beam measurement. For example, the UE 120 may select a quantity of active antenna elements to use to perform each L1 beam measurement. In some examples, the UE 120 may use the same Rx-beam level for all of the L1 beam measurements for the first set of beams. In some other examples, the UE 120 may use different Rx-beam levels for performing the L1 beam measurements for the first set of beams. For example, one or more L1 beam measurements may be associated with one Rx-beam level, of the plurality of Rx-beam levels, and one or more other L1 beam measurements may be associated with another Rx-beam level, of the plurality of Rx-beam levels.

[0122] As further shown in Figure 7, in a fifth operation 725, the UE 120 may transmit, and the network node 110 may receive, the L1 beam measurements for the first set of beams (for example, the Set B beams) . In some aspects, the UE 120 may transmit, and the network node 110 may receive, a CSI report that includes the L1 beam measurements for the first set of beams. In some other aspects, the L1 beam measurements may be included in RRC / user plane protocol signaling transmitted by the UE 120 and received by the network node 110.

[0123] As further shown in Figure 7, in a sixth operation 730, the UE 120 may transmit, and the network node 110 may receive, an Rx-beam level ID associated with the L1 beam measurements. The Rx-beam level ID may indicate the Rx-beam level associated with the L1 beam measurements. In some examples, the UE 120 may transmit, to the network node 110, a single Rx-beam level ID that indicates an Rx-beam level used for performing the L1 beam measurements for the first set of beams. In some other examples, the UE 120 may transmit, to the network node 110, multiple Rx-beam level IDs that indicate multiple Rx-beam levels used for performing the L1 beam measurements for the first set of beams.

[0124] In some aspects, the UE 120 may report the Rx-beam level ID (s) in the UE capability information (for example, via RRC signaling during initial access with the network node 110) . For example, the UE capability information may indicate the Rx-beam level ID (s) as a preferred Rx-beam level ID (s) for the UE 120. In some aspects, as discussed above in connection with the first operation 705, the UE capability information may indicate one or more supported Rx-beam level IDs that indicate supported Rx-beam  levels from the plurality of Rx-beam levels. In such examples, the UE 120 may indicate a selection of the Rx-beam level ID (s) associated with the reported L1 beam measurements from the one or more supported Rx-beam level IDs in a MAC-CE or UCI transmitted by the UE 120 to the network node 110.

[0125] In some aspects, the UE 120 may report the Rx-beam level ID (s) associated with the L1 beam measurements via a MAC-CE that is transmitted by the UE 120 to network node 110. In such examples, the indication of the Rx-beam level ID (s) in MAC-CE may apply to one or more CSI reports with a report quantity (for example, the CSI measurements included in the CSI reports) that includes at least one of L1 RSRP or L1 SINR. For example, the UE 120 may transmit, and the network node 110 may receive, a MAC-CE that indicates that the Rx-beam level ID applies to one or more CSI reports, and the L1 beam measurements for the first set of beams may be included in at least one CSI report of the one or more CSI reports. In some aspects, the network node 110 may transmit, to the UE 120, a confirmation for the MAC-CE, and the UE 120 may receive the confirmation for the MAC-CE prior to transmitting the at least one CSI report including the L1 beam measurements for the first set of beams. For example, the UE 120 may transmit the MAC-CE indicating the Rx-beam ID (s) (for example, updated Rx-beam level ID(s) ) prior to performing the L1 beam measurements, and the UE 120 may wait to receive the confirmation for the MAC-CE from the network node 110 before applying the indicated Rx-beam ID (s) (for example, the updated Rx-beam level ID (s) ) for performing the L1 beam measurements and reporting the L1 beam measurements.

[0126] In some aspects, the L1 beam measurements for the first set of beams may be included in a CSI report, and the Rx-beam level ID (s) associated with the L1 beam measurements for the first set of beams may be included in the same CSI report that carries the L1 beam measurements for the first set of beams. The Rx-beam level ID (s) may be reported (for example, in the CSI report or in another communication) by indicating a single Rx-beam level ID that applies all of the associated L1 beam measurements being reported, or by indicating respective Rx-beam level ID for each of the associated L1 beam measurements being reported. For example, the CSI report may include a single indication of the Rx-beam level ID that applies to all of the L1 beam measurements included in the CSI report, or the CSI report may include a respective indication of a Rx-beam level ID for each of the L1 beam measurements included in the CSI report.

[0127] In some aspects, the L1 beam measurements for the first set of beams may be reported / transmitted via RRC / user plane protocol signaling (for example, for training data collection) , and the Rx-beam level ID (s) associated with the L1 beam measurements for the first set of beams may also be reported / transmitted via RRC / user plane protocol signaling.

[0128] As further shown in Figure 7, in some aspects, in a seventh operation 735, the network node 110 may train an AI / ML model associated with the Rx-beam level ID. In some aspects, the network node 110 may receive, from the UE 120, L1 beam measurements associated with an Rx-beam level, of the plurality of Rx-beam levels, and an Rx-beam level ID indicating the Rx-beam level for the L1 beam measurements. The L1 beam measurements may be for the first set of beams (for example, Set B beams) , and the network node 110 may use the L1 beam measurements as training data for training an AI / ML model, associated with the Rx-beam level ID, for beam prediction for a second set of beams (for example, Set A beams) . The AI / ML model may specific to the Rx-beam level associated with the Rx-beam level ID. For example, the network node 110 may train the AI / ML model using only L1 beam measurements associated with that Rx-beam level.

[0129] In some aspects, the network node 110 may receive, from the UE 120 and / or one or more other UEs, L1 beam measurements associated with different Rx-beam level IDs. The network node 110 may train different AI / ML models (for example, for beam prediction) associated with different respective Rx-beam level IDs using only L1 beam measurements associated with the respective Rx-beam level ID for each of the different AI / ML models. For example, the network node 110 may train a separate AI / ML model for each Rx-beam level of the plurality of Rx-beam levels, using the only L1 beam measurements associated with that Rx-beam level as training data.

[0130] As further shown in Figure 7, in some aspects, in an eighth operation 740, the network node 110 may perform beam prediction using an AI / ML model associated with the Rx-beam level ID. In some aspects, the network node 110 may perform either the training discussed in connection with the seventh operation 735 or the beam prediction discussed in connection with the eight operation 740. In some aspects, the network node 110 may receive, from the UE 120, L1 beam measurements associated with an Rx-beam level, of the plurality of Rx-beam levels, and an Rx-beam level ID indicating the Rx-beam level for the L1 beam measurements. The L1 beam measurements may be for the first set of beams (for example, Set B beams) , and the network node 110 may perform  beam prediction, based on or otherwise in accordance with the L1 beam measurements for the first set of beams, using an AI / ML model (for example, a trained AI / ML model) associated with the Rx-beam level ID. For example, the network node 110 may be equipped with multiple AI / ML models associated with different Rx-beam level IDs. An AI / ML mode associated with a certain Rx-beam level ID may be pre-trained for the Rx-beam level, of the plurality of Rx-beam levels, associated with the Rx-beam level ID. The network node 110, in connection with receiving the Rx-beam level ID that indicates the Rx-beam level associated with the reported L1 beam measurements, may select the AI / ML model associated with the Rx-beam level ID from the multiple AI / ML models, and the network node 110 may perform beam prediction, based on or otherwise in accordance with the L1 beam measurements, using the selected AI / ML model associated with the Rx-beam level ID.

[0131] As further shown in Figure 7, in some aspects, in a ninth operation 745, the network node 110 may transmit, and the UE 120 may receive, a communication associated with the beam prediction. The network node 110 may transmit, and the UE 120 may receive, the communication associated with the beam prediction in connection with the network node 110 performing the beam prediction in the eighth operation 740. The communication may be any communication that is based on, responsive to, or otherwise associated with the beam prediction for the second set of beams performed by the network node 110. For example, the communication may include one or more predicted L1 beam measurements for the second set of beams, include an indication of a selected beam based on or otherwise associated with beam prediction, and / or relate to beam management, beam failure detection, beam failure recovery based on or otherwise associated with the beam prediction, among other examples.

[0132] Figure 8 is a diagram illustrating an example 800 associated with UE reporting of L1 beam measurements associated with one or more requested Rx-beam level IDs, in accordance with the present disclosure. As shown in Figure 8, a network node 110 (for example, a base station, a CU, a DU, and / or an RU) may communicate with a UE 120. In some aspects, the network node 110 and the UE 120 may be part of a wireless network (for example, the wireless network 100) . The UE 120 and the network node 110 may have established a wireless connection prior to operations shown in Figure 8.

[0133] In some aspects, actions described herein as being performed by a network node 110 may be performed by multiple different network nodes.

[0134] As shown in Figure 8, in a first operation 805, the UE 120 may transmit, and the network node 110 may receive, UE capability information. For example, the UE 120 may transmit the UE capability information via RRC signaling. In some aspects, the UE capability information may indicate that the UE 120 supports applying Rx-beam level ID requested by the network node 110 for L1 beam measurements reported by the UE 120.

[0135] As further shown in Figure 8, in a second operation 810, the network node 110 may transmit, and the UE 120 may receive configuration information.

[0136] In some aspects, the configuration information may configure the UE 120 to perform L1 beam measurements and report L1 beam measurements to the network node 110.

[0137] In some aspects, the configuration information may indicate one or more candidate configurations and / or communication parameters.

[0138] The UE 120 may configure itself based at least in part on the configuration information. In some aspects, the UE may be configured to perform one or more operations described herein based at least in part on the configuration information.

[0139] As further shown in Figure 8, in a third operation 815, the network node 110 may transmit, and the UE 120 may receive a request to report L1 beam measurements. In some aspects, the request to report the L1 beam measurements may indicate the first set of beams to be measured.

[0140] In some aspects, the request to report the L1 beam measurements may be a request for the UE 120 to report the L1 beam measurements for the first set of beams via a CSI report.

[0141] In some aspects, the request to report the L1 beam measurements may be a request for the UE 120 to report the L1 beam measurements for the first set of beams via RRC and / or user plane protocol signaling. For example, the network node 110 may request that the UE 120 reports the L1 beam measurements via a CSI report for training data collection. In such examples, the request to report the L1 beam measurements may be transmitted by the network node 110, and received by the UE 120, via RRC / user plane protocol signaling.

[0142] As further shown in Figure 8, in a fourth operation 820, the network node 110 may transmit, and the UE 120 may receive, a request for the UE 120 to apply an Rx-beam level ID for the L1 beam measurements. The request for the UE 120 to apply the Rx-beam level ID may indicate the Rx-beam level ID to be applied by the UE 120. The Rx-beam level ID may indicate the Rx-beam level, of the plurality of Rx-beam levels, to be used by the UE 120 to perform the L1 beam measurements. In some examples, the request for the UE 120 to apply the Rx-beam level ID may indicate a single Rx-beam level ID that identifies an Rx-beam level to be used by the UE 120 for performing the L1 beam measurements for the first set of beams. In some other examples, the request for the UE 120 to apply the Rx-beam level ID may indicate multiple Rx-beam level IDs that indicate multiple Rx-beam levels to be used by the UE 120 for performing the L1 beam measurements for the first set of beams. In some aspects, the UE 120 may be restricted to apply the indicated Rx-beam level ID (s) when performing the L1 beam measurements. In some aspects, the request for the UE 120 to apply the Rx-beam level ID may be included in the request to report the L1 beam measurements.

[0143] In some aspects, in an example in which the requested L1 beam measurements are to be used for beam prediction (for example, online inference) using an AI / ML model, the network node 110 may be a equipped with a single AI / ML model associated with an Rx-beam level ID, and the request for the UE 120 to apply the Rx-beam level ID may restrict the UE 120 to apply the Rx-beam level ID associated with that AI / ML model. In some aspects, in an example in which the requested L1 beam measurements are to be used for beam prediction (for example, online inference) using an AI / ML model, the network node 110 may be a equipped with a limited quantity of AI / ML models associated with respective Rx-beam level IDs, and the request for the UE 120 to apply the Rx-beam level ID may restrict the UE 120 to apply the Rx-beam level IDs associated with the AI / ML models available at the network node 110. In some aspects, in an example in which the requested L1 beam measurements are to be used for training data collection  (for example, to train an AI / ML model) , the requested Rx-beam level ID (s) to be applied by the UE 120 may be selected by the network node 110 to collect training data dedicated for training an AI / ML model (s) associated with that specific Rx-beam level ID (s) . In some aspects, the requested Rx-beam level ID (s) to be applied by the UE 120 may be based on or otherwise associated with the UE capability information. For example, the requested Rx-beam level ID (s) may be selected from the one or more supported Rx-beam level IDs indicated in the UE capability information.

[0144] In some aspects, for L1 beam measurements requested to be reported via a CSI report, the request for the UE 120 to apply the Rx-beam level ID may be transmitted via RRC signaling, a MAC-CE, or DCI. In some examples, the request for the UE 120 to apply the Rx-beam level ID may be included in the CSI report configuration information associated with the CSI report. For example, the requested Rx-beam level ID (s) to be applied by the UE 120 may be indicated in the CSI report setting or in other configuration information associated with the CSI report (for example, CSI-AssociatedReportConfigInfo for an aperiodic CSI report) . In some examples, the request for the UE 120 to apply the Rx-beam level ID may be included in a MAC-CE activation command associated with the CSI report. For example, the MAC-CE activation command that activates a semi-persistent CSI report may indicate the requested Rx-beam level ID (s) for the L1 beam measurements to be reported in the CSI report. In some examples, the request for the UE to apply the Rx-beam level ID is included in downlink grant DCI (for example, downlink grant DCI that schedules one or more downlink reference signals to be measured for an aperiodic CSI report) . In such examples, the UE 120 may transmit, and the network node 110 may receive, an acknowledgement (ACK) of the downlink grant DCI, and the ACK may serve as UE confirmation of the restrictions on the Rx-beam level ID indicated in the downlink DCI. The UE 120 may apply the Rx-beam level ID (s) after an offset (for example X slots) from transmitting the ACK. The value of the offset (for example, X) may be predefined (for example, specified in a wireless communication standard) or based on or otherwise associated with UE capability reporting.

[0145] In some aspects, for L1 beam measurements requested to be reported via RRC / user plane protocol signaling, the request for the UE 120 to apply the Rx-beam level ID may be transmitted by the network node 110, and received by the UE 120, via RRC / user plane protocol signaling. In some examples, the request for the UE 120 to apply the Rx-beam level ID may be signaled together with the request to report the L1  beam measurements. For example, the request to report the L1 beam measurements may be transmitted by the network node 110, and received by the UE 120, via RRC / user plane protocol signaling, and the request to report the L1 beam measurements may include the request for the UE 120 to apply the Rx-beam level ID for the L1 beam measurements.

[0146] In some aspects, the request for the UE to apply the Rx-beam level ID may include a single indication of the Rx-beam level ID to be applied for all of the associated L1 beam measurements to be reported. For example, L1 beam measurements to be reported via a CSI report, all L1 beam measurements to be reported in a single CSI report may be associated with the same restricted / requested Rx-beam level ID (s) . In some other aspects, the request for the UE to apply the Rx-beam level ID may include a respective indication of the Rx-beam level ID to be applied for each of the different associated L1 beam measurements to be reported. For example, for L1 beam measurements to be reported via a CSI report, each CMR associated with the CSI report may be accompanied with a respective signaled requested / restricted Rx-beam level ID.

[0147] As further shown in Figure 8, in a fifth operation 825, the UE 120 may perform the L1 beam measurements using an Rx-beam level indicated by the requested Rx-beam level ID.

[0148] Each L1 beam measurements may be associated with an Rx-beam level, of the plurality of Rx-beam levels, that is used by the UE 120 to perform the L1 beam measurement. In some aspects, the respective L1 beam measurement accuracy tolerances associated with the plurality of Rx-beam levels may include separate accuracy tolerances for L1 measurements (for example, L1 RSRP and / or L1 SINR measurements) performed on SSBs and L1 beam measurements (for example, L1 RSRP and / or L1 SINR measurements) performed on CSI-RSs.

[0149] In some aspects, the UE 120 may apply the requested (or restricted) Rx-beam level ID for performing the L1 beam measurements. The requested-Rx beam level ID may indicate a requested Rx-beam level to be used by the UE 120 to perform the L1 beam measurements. In some examples, the request for the UE 120 to apply the Rx-beam level ID may indicate a single requested Rx-beam level ID to be applied for all of the L1 beam measurements to be reported. In such examples, the UE 120 may use the Rx-beam level associated with the requested Rx-beam level ID to perform all of the L1 beam measurements for the first set of beams. In some examples, the request for the UE 120 to apply the Rx-beam level ID may request that the UE 120 apply different Rx-beam level IDs for L1 beam measurements. In such examples, the UE 120 may use the Rx-beam level corresponding to the respective requested Rx-beam level ID for each L1 beam measurement.

[0150] As further shown in Figure 8, in a sixth operation 830, the UE 120 may transmit, and the network node 110 may receive, the L1 beam measurements for the first set of beams (for example, the Set B beams) . The L1 beam measurements for the first set of beams may be associated with the requested (restricted) Rx-beam level ID (s) indicated in the request for the UE 120 to apply the Rx-beam level ID.

[0151] As further shown in Figure 8, in some aspects, in a seventh operation 835, the network node 110 may train an AI / ML model associated with the Rx-beam level ID. In some aspects, the network node 110 may receive, from the UE 120, the L1 beam measurements associated with the requested Rx-beam level indicated in the for the UE 120 to apply the Rx-beam level ID. The L1 beam measurements may be for the first set  of beams (for example, Set B beams) , and the network node 110 may use the L1 beam measurements as training data for training an AI / ML model, associated with the requested Rx-beam level ID, for beam prediction for a second set of beams (for example, Set A beams) . The AI / ML model may specific to the Rx-beam level associated with the requested Rx-beam level ID indicated in the request for the UE 120 to apply the Rx-beam level ID. For example, the network node 110 may train the AI / ML model using only L1 beam measurements associated with the Rx-beam level associated with the requested Rx-beam level ID.

[0152] As further shown in Figure 8, in some aspects, in an eighth operation 840, the network node 110 may perform beam prediction using an AI / ML model associated with the Rx-beam level ID. In some aspects, the network node 110 may perform either the training discussed in connection with the seventh operation 835 or the beam prediction discussed in connection with the eight operation 840. In some aspects, the network node 110 may receive, from the UE 120, the L1 beam measurements associated with the Rx-beam level associated with the requested Rx-beam level ID indicated in the request for the UE 120 to apply the Rx-beam level ID. The L1 beam measurements may be for the first set of beams (for example, Set B beams) , and the network node 110 may perform beam prediction, based on or otherwise in accordance with the L1 beam measurements for the first set of beams, using an AI / ML model (for example, a trained AI / ML model) associated with the requested Rx-beam level ID. In some examples, the network node 110 may be equipped only the AI / ML model associated with the requested Rx-beam level ID.

[0153] As further shown in Figure 8, in some aspects, in a ninth operation 845, the network node 110 may transmit, and the UE 120 may receive, a communication associated with the beam prediction. The network node 110 may transmit, and the UE 120 may receive, the communication associated with the beam prediction in connection with the network node 110 performing the beam prediction in the eighth operation 840.

[0154] Figure 9 is a diagram illustrating an example 900 associated with UE reporting of L1 beam measurements associated with an Rx-beam level ID for LTM candidate cells, in accordance with the present disclosure. As shown in Figure 9, example 900 includes a UE 120 and LTM candidate cells including a set of active serving cells 902 and a set of non-serving cells 904.

[0155] In LTM, the UE 120 may perform L1 beam measurements (for example, L1 RSRP and / or L1 SINR measurements) for the LTM candidate cells including the active serving cells 902 and the non-serving cells 904. Selection, by the UE 120, of the Rx-beam levels to use for performing the L1 beam measurements may result in inconsistent usage of Rx-beam levels between the active serving cells 902 and the non-serving cells 904. As shown by reference number 906, for L1 beam measurements for the active serving cells 902, the UE 120 may prefer a narrow Rx-beam associated with a first Rx-beam level (for example, using 3 or 4 active antenna elements) to achieve high throughput in the active serving cells 902. As shown by reference number 908, for L1 beam measurements for the non-serving cells 904, the UE 120 may prefer a wide Rx-beam associated with a second Rx-beam level (for example, using 1 or 2 active antenna elements) to reduce power consumption. For example, because there is no on-going traffic for the UE 120 on the non-serving cells 904, the UE 120 may not be motivated to used narrow Rx-beams to achieve high throughout. Such inconsistent usage of Rx-beam levels across the serving cells 902 and the non-serving cells 904 may result in an inaccurate justification for LTM cell switching. However, forcing the UE 120 to user wide Rx-beams may potentially sacrifice throughout in the active serving cells 902, and forcing the UE 120 to use narrow Rx-beams may significantly increase UE power consumption.

[0156] As shown by reference number 910, in some aspects, a network node 110 may transmit, to the UE 120 (for example, via an active serving cell 902) , a request for the UE 120 to apply an Rx-beam level ID for the L1 beam measurements of the LTM candidate cells. For example, the request may indicate a fixed Rx-beam level ID to apply for the L1 beam measurements across the active serving cells 902 and the non-serving cells 904. In some aspects, the requested Rx-beam level ID may be selected by the network node 110 as a compromise between the narrow-Rx beams preferred by the UE 120 for the active serving cells 902 and the wide Rx-beams preferred by the UE 120 for the non-serving cells 904. For example, the network node 110 may have a better understanding of whether good throughout is desirable or achievable for the UE 120 or not, which may  enable the network node 110 to select the Rx-beam level ID to be applied by the UE 120 for the L1 beam measurements for the LTM candidates and signal the selected Rx-beam level ID to the UE 120. The network node 110 may signal the Rx-beam level ID to the UE 120 similar to as discussed in connection with the fourth operation 820 in Figure 8. The UE 120 may perform the L1 beam measurements for the LTM candidate cells using the Rx-beam level indicated by the Rx-beam level ID, similar to as discussed in connection with the fifth operation 825 in Figure 8, and the UE 120 may report the L1 beam measurements for the LTM candidate cells similar to as discussed in connection with the sixth operation 830 in Figure 8.

[0157] Figure 10 is a flowchart illustrating an example process 1000 performed, for example, at a UE or an apparatus of a UE that supports Rx-beam level specific L1 beam measurement accuracies in accordance with the present disclosure. Example process 1000 is an example where the apparatus or the UE (for example, UE 120) performs operations associated with Rx-beam level specific L1 beam measurement accuracies.

[0158] As shown in Figure 10, in some aspects, process 1000 may include receiving, from a network node, a request to report one or more L1 beam measurements for one or more beams (block 1010) . For example, the UE (such as by using communication manager 140 or reception component 1202, depicted in Figure 12) may receive, from a network node, a request to report one or more L1 beam measurements for one or more beams, as described above.

[0159] As further shown in Figure 10, in some aspects, process 1000 may include transmitting, to the network node, the one or more L1 beam measurements for the one or more beams, the one or more L1 beam measurements being associated with an Rx-beam level of a plurality of Rx-beam levels associated with respective L1 beam measurement accuracy tolerances (block 1020) . For example, the UE (such as by using communication manager 140 or transmission component 1204, depicted in Figure 12) may transmit, to the network node, the one or more L1 beam measurements for the one or more beams, the one or more L1 beam measurements being associated with an Rx-beam level of a plurality of Rx-beam levels associated with respective L1 beam measurement accuracy tolerances, as described above.

[0160] As further shown in Figure 10, in some aspects, process 1000 may include communicating, with the network node, an Rx-beam level ID indicating the Rx-beam level associated with the one or more L1 beam measurements (block 1030) . For example, the UE (such as by using communication manager 140, reception component 1202, or  transmission component 1204, depicted in Figure 12) may communicate, with the network node, an Rx-beam level ID indicating the Rx-beam level associated with the one or more L1 beam measurements, as described above.

[0161] Process 1000 may include additional aspects, such as any single aspect or any combination of aspects described below or in connection with one or more other processes described elsewhere herein.
