Abstract
Description
ORAL CARE COMPOSITIONS COMPRISING ISOMALT ENCAPSULATED GAS PELLETSField of the Invention
[0001] The present invention generally relates to oral care compositions. More particularly, the present invention relates to oral care compositions and products comprising isomalt encapsulated gas pellets, as well as methods and uses thereof. Background of the Invention
[0002] The use of oral care compositions, such as toothpastes, are important for improving and / or maintaining the oral hygiene of an individual. Conventional oral care compositions provide agents, such as abrasives and antimicrobial compounds, which prevent and / or remove tartar and / or plaque from the teeth of the user. Moreover, the act of brushing teeth with a conventional toothbrush to provide an oral care composition to the teeth and / or gums provides a mechanical means to dislodge food and maintain aspects of oral hygiene, however, the brushing habits of the user plays a significant role in the extent to which such oral care compositions are effective at improving and / or maintaining oral hygiene.
[0003] The utility of an oral care composition to provide an improvement or maintenance of oral hygiene in an individual may be influenced, in part, by the length of time in which the user cleans their teeth with the oral care composition. For example, the American Dental Association (ADA) recommends a user brushes their teeth twice per day for a minimum of two minutes.
[0004] It is common for the duration of the cleaning of a user’s teeth to be monitored using, for example, a timer provided on, for example, a toothbrush. The inclusion of such timing feature in a toothbrush requires the further addition of elements such as a battery to provide the necessary energy to power the timer. The requirement of a battery powered toothbrush to regulate the duration of brushing is limited in that it requires said toothbrush to have sufficient energy to perform the timing which requires either a power source (i.e. for charging) or batteries, both of which have significant limitations such as the need for a power source for charging or the cost of purchasing batteries and the environment impact of disposal of such batteries. Additionally, another device, such as a clock or timing device, may be used to regulate the length of brushing, however, this requires an additional consideration before, during and after application of an oral care composition. The ability to provide a means of timing a duration of brushing, such as an intrinsic timer provided in an element that is part of the users normal oral hygiene routine, without the need for a powered brushing device or an external non-oral hygiene device would help to promote a desired brushing duration.
[0005] Therefore, a means of providing an intrinsic brushing timer for a desired duration of toothbrushing without the need for an electrically powered device or additional device is required.Summary of the Invention
