Abstract

Oral care compositions and, particularly, mouthwashes and concentrated mouthwashes are disclosed herein. [0001] This application claims the benefit of priority from U.S. Provisional Patent Application No. 63 / 634,595, filed April 16, 2024, titled ORAL CARE COMPOSITIONS, which is hereby incorporated herein by reference in its entirety for all purposes.BACKGROUND

[0002] It has been observed that the majority of conventional mouthwash formulations contain a high percentage of ethanol, with concentrations ranging from about 10 to 30 wt.%. The ethanol is used not only as a disinfectant, but also as a solvent to dissolve additives (such as, flavor oils) which are insoluble in water. A need still exists for an alcohol-free aqueous oral care composition which contains a high level of water-insoluble flavoring agent.BRIEF SUMMARY

Claims

CLAIMSWhat Is Claimed Is:

1. A concentrated mouthwash composition comprising: from about 60 to about 85 wt.% of polyol; from about 11 to about 30 wt.% of water; an amino acid comprising arginine, lysine, a salt thereof or a combination of two or more thereof; and from about 1 to about 10 wt.% of nonionic surfactant, wherein all weight percentages are based on the total weight of the concentrated mouthwash composition.

2. The concentrated mouthwash composition according to claim 1 further comprising a hydrogenated castor oil.

3. The concentrated mouthwash composition according to claim 2, wherein the hydrogenated castor oil comprises a pegylated hydrogenated castor oil.

4. The concentrated mouthwash composition according to any foregoing claim, wherein the polyol comprises glycerin and propylene glycol.

5. The concentrated mouthwash composition according to claim 4, wherein the concentrated mouthwash composition has a weight ratio of propylene glycol to glycerin of about 2: 1 to about 1:3.

6. The concentrated mouthwash composition according to any foregoing claim, wherein the amino acid consists of arginine, lysine, a salt thereof or a combination of two or more thereof.

7. The concentrated mouthwash composition according to any foregoing claim, wherein the amino acid comprises arginine and / or a salt thereof.

8. The concentrated mouthwash composition according to any foregoing claim further comprising a carbonate and / or bicarbonate.

9. The concentrated mouthwash composition according to any foregoing claim, wherein the nonionic surfactant comprises a poloxamer, a sorbitan surfactant, or a combination of two or more thereof.

10. The concentrated mouthwash composition according to claim 9, wherein the nonionic surfactant comprises a sorbitan surfactant selected from ethoxylated sorbitan surfactants.

11. The concentrated mouthwash composition according to any foregoing claim, wherein the concentrated mouthwash composition is essentially free or free of hydrocarbon oils.

12. The concentrated mouthwash composition according to any foregoing claim, wherein the concentrated mouthwash composition is essentially free or free of monoalcohols.

13. The concentrated mouthwash composition according to any foregoing claim, wherein the concentrated mouthwash composition is essentially free or free of anionic surfactants.

14. The concentrated mouthwash composition according to any foregoing claim, wherein the concentrated mouthwash composition is free of surfactants other than nonionic surfactants.

15. The concentrated mouthwash composition according to any foregoing claim further comprising a sweetener in an amount from about 0.1 to about 7 wt.%, wherein the sweetener is selected from sucrose, lactose, maltose, sorbitol, xylitol, sodium cyclamate, perillartine, L- aspartyl-L-phenylalanine methyl ester, saccharine, and a combination of two or more thereof.

16. The concentrated mouthwash composition according to any foregoing claim further comprising a fluoride source in an amount from about 0.1 to about 2 wt.%, wherein the fluoride source is selected from sodium fluoride, potassium fluoride, sodium monofluorophosphate,sodium fluorosilicate, ammonium fluorosilicate, amine fluoride, ammonium fluoride, and a combination of two or more thereof.

17. An oral care composition comprising: from about 50 to about 85 wt.% of polyol; from about 5 to about 30 wt.% of water; arginine and / or a salt thereof; from about 1 to about 10 wt.% of nonionic surfactant; and a hydrogenated castor oil, wherein the oral care composition is a single-phase mouthwash, and all weight percentages are based on the total weight of the oral care composition.

18. A method of manufacturing an oral care composition comprising: mixing from about 50 to about 85 wt.% of polyol; from about 5 to about 30 wt.% of water; an amino acid comprising arginine, lysine, a salt thereof or a combination of two or more thereof; from about 1 to about 10 wt.% of nonionic surfactant; and a hydrogenated castor oil.

19. The method according to claim 18 comprising manufacturing an oral care composition according to any one of claims 1 to 20.

20. An oral care composition comprising: from about 50 to about 85 wt.% of polyol; from about 5 to about 30 wt.% of water; from about 1 to about 10 wt.% of nonionic surfactant; and a hydrogenated castor oil, wherein the oral care composition is a single-phase mouthwash, and all weight percentages are based on the total weight of the oral care composition.
