[0003] The present disclosure relates to a water flosser for cleaning teeth and gums, and more particularly a water flosser with interchangeable, removable liquid mouthwash pods for creating or making custom, selectable mouthwashes for a user.
[0004] 2. Description of the Related Art
[0005] Tooth brushing and flossing are basic tasks to keep one’s teeth and gums healthy. In addition to brushing and flossing, some users have added a water flosser to their daily dental hygiene to enhance the cleaning of their teeth and gums. Basic water flossers that use tap water for the teeth cleaning have been used for decades. These basic water flossers generally have a single water pressure and allow the user to turn on and off the water flosser while a nozzle is inserted into the user’s mouth to clean between the teeth and gums. Generally tap water or filtered water is used with these water flossers. These basic water flossers, however, have several limitations.
[0006] Accordingly, it is desirable to provide a water flosser with more advanced capabilities as well as custom, selectable mouthwashes for a user.SUMMARY
[0007] A water flosser having a nozzle for cleaning a user’s teeth and gums. The water flosser includes a bottle having a top opening and defining an internal cavity or chamber for storing a fluid. The water flosser may have a door movably attached to the bottle and configured to move from an open position to a closed position, the door having an internal pod holder, e.g., an internal circular protruding rim. The water flosser may also have a mouthwash pod configured to fit within the internal circular protruding rim. The mouthwash pod contains concentrated mouthwash and has a seal to hold the mouthwash within the mouthwash pod. The seal is punctured when the door is moved to or is in the closed position to allow the concentrated mouthwash to enter into the internal cavity or chamber of the bottle.
[0008] The water flosser may also include a tube located inside the internal cavity or chamber of the bottle and a motor positioned above the bottle, coupled to the tube, and configured to cause the fluid to move from the bottle, through the tube, and into the nozzle. [0028] The present disclosure relates to a hand-held water flosser having a motor, a bottle or container for holding fluid, e.g., mouthwash, and a flossing tip or nozzle. The bottle is positioned beneath the motor and the flossing tip or nozzle is positioned above the motor for a sleek and compact design. The bottle and the handle lie along the same Y-axis to provide for a sleek, hand-held, water flossing device. The handheld water flosser allows for a compact, travelfriendly design. The motor, the bottle, and the flossing tip or nozzle are all removable and detachable to allow for a small, compact design, being less than 5 inches in height when placed side-by-side. As an example, the motor is about 4.5 inches in height, the bottle is about 4 inches in height, and the nozzle is about 4 inches in height.
[0029] The bottle has a top opening into a chamber where the fluid (e.g., mouthwash) is contained. The water flosser has a hinged or swivel door preferably at the bottom, rear of the bottle where the hinged door can swivel from an open position to a closed position. When in the open position, a concentrated mouthwash pod can be placed on the inside of the door and held in place. The door can then be moved to the closed position, where a seal on the mouthwash pod is broken by, for example, one or more sharp plastic spikes attached to the bottle. Once the seal is broken, the concentrated mouthwash exits the mouthwash pod and enters the chamber of the bottle. Thereafter, tap or filtered water is added into the top opening of the bottle, a handle is attached to the bottle, a flosser tip is attached to the handle, the water flosser is shaken by the user, and then the water flosser can be used. The mouthwash pod is interchangeable, and removable for making custom, selectable mouthwashes for the user. The mouthwash pod can have different flavors, and concentrations to meet the user’s preference.
[0030] FIG. 1 is a top right perspective view of a flosser apparatus or system 1 (e.g., a water flosser 1) including a bottle 100, a casing or handle 105 with a motor 109 contained therein (see also FIG. 2), and a removable nozzle or flosser tip 110 according to an aspect of the present invention. The flosser apparatus or system 1 may be a water flosser containing mouthwash for cleaning of the teeth, mouth, and gums. The flosser apparatus or system 1 includes an interchangeable and disposable liquid filled pod 125 for mixing with another liquid (e.g., filtered, sterilized or purified water). A liquid concentrate (e.g., a concentrated mouthwash and / or fluoride rinse) is provided inside the liquid filled pod 125. Once mixed together and shaken, the mouthwash will have the proper consistency for use by the user. The user may also add more or less water into the bottle based on personal or user preference to change the strength of the mouthwash. For example, the user may add more or less water into the bottle prior to or after the liquid concentrate in the liquid filled pod 125 is put into the bottle 100, resulting in a stronger or weaker mouthwash for the user. Less water in the bottle results in a stronger mouthwash and more water in the bottle results in a weaker mouthwash. Additional water can also be added after the liquid filled pod 125 is punctured in order to make the mouthwash weaker. This advantageously allows for a mouthwash with a changeable strength based on the user’s preference.
[0031] The bottle 100 has a height of about 4 inches and a diameter at the neck of about 2.5 inches and a diameter at the base of about 3.5 inches. As shown, the bottle 100 has an elongated, cylindrical shape with slightly flattened, curved right and left sides, as an example, that is easy to hold, grip, and use. The bottle 100 can also be round or cylindrical or elliptical. The bottle 100 is tapered and has an exterior surface that is flush with the casing or handle 105 to provide for asleek, hand-held water flosser 1. Both the bottle 100 and the casing or handle 105 have smooth comers and edges.
[0032] The bottle 100 has a rear swivel door 115 that rotates downward in an open position (as shown in FIG. 1). The rear swivel door 115 can be placed anywhere on the bottle 100 but is shown on a bottom rear portion of the bottle 100 so when the door 115 is in the open position, the door 115 can rest on a table or counter for easier installation / placement of the liquid filled pod 125. In the open position, the rear swivel door 115 lies along a plane parallel to or at a slight angle (e.g., 20 degrees downward) relative to the base 101 of the bottle 100. Once open, the rear swivel door 115 can rest on a counter or table (as shown) for more convenient insertion and removal of the liquid filled pod 125. The rear swivel door 115 has an internal pod holder 120, e.g., an internal circular protruding rim 120, for accurate installation and holding the liquid filled pod 125. The liquid side or pouch of the liquid filled pod 125 is inserted into and snugly fits into the internal circular protruding rim 120. As the rear swivel door 115 is rotated upward into a closed position, the liquid filled pod 125 is punctured by one or more sharp plastic spikes 130 (see also FIG. 19). The one or more sharp plastic spikes can look like a small nail. In the closed position, the rear swivel door 115 lies along a plane perpendicular to the base 101 of the bottle 100. The rear swivel door 115 may have a rubber or plastic washer (not shown) to maintain a water-tight seal so that no fluid is able to exit the bottle 100 through the rear swivel door 115 when closed. The closed position prevents any liquid from inside the bottle 100 from seeping out. Once the liquid filled pod 125 is punctured, the liquid concentrate (e.g., a concentrated mouthwash or fluoride rinse) inside the liquid filled pod 125 drains or seeps into the bottle 100 via one more holes 131, 132, and 133 in the bottle 100 (see also FIG. 15). The bottle 100 is then filled with water or prefilled with water and mixed with the liquid concentrate to form themouthwash. The user may use different liquid fdled pods 125 with different flavors, ingredients, and / or formulations to produce a desired, custom mouthwash.
[0033] FIG. 2 is a rear perspective view of the flosser 1 including the bottle 100 and the handle 105 with the flosser tip removed according to an aspect of the present invention. The handle 105 includes a motor 109 and a rechargeable battery therein to operate the flosser 1. The motor 109 pulls or sucks the fluid or liquid, e.g., the mouthwash, from the bottle 100 using a tube 140 and pushes it into the flosser tip 110 to provide a pulsating water sensation as the mouthwash goes into the user’s mouth, teeth and gums to remove plaque, and food particles lodged between and on the teeth for cleaning purposes (see also FIG. 1). A button 135 (when pressed once or continually depressed) can be used to turn on the flosser 1. If the button 135 is pushed again or released, the flosser 1 will be turned off. This turns on and off the spraying or pulsing of the mouthwash via the flosser tip 110. When the flosser 1 is on, a light emitting diode (LED) 170, which is centered at the bottom of the handle 105, lights up continually or flashes, directing the light beam(s) 171 downward into the bottle 100 and the liquid inside the bottle 100. The LED 170 can be a single color selected from, for example, blue, green, magenta, or red. The LED 170 can be replaced with a different color by removing the handle 105 from the bottle 100 so that access to the LED 170 can be gained.
[0034] FIG. 3 is a right perspective view of the flosser 1 including the bottle 100 and the handle 105 with the flosser tip removed and the rear swivel door 115 closed according to an aspect of the present invention. As shown in the closed position, the rear swivel door 115 lies along a plane perpendicular to the base 101 of the bottle 100. The handle 105 is easy to hold while in use. The base 101 of the bottle 100 has a larger diameter than the neck of the bottle 100 to allow the bottle 100 to rest on a countertop with better stability.

[0036] FIG. 5 is a front perspective view of the bottle 100 and the handle 105 having one or more buttons including an on / off button 144 and a variable speed button 145 according to an aspect of the present invention. The on / off button 144 turns on and off the power to the flosser apparatus 1 and the variable speed button 145 allows the user to select different water / mouthwash pressure / pulsation speeds, such as low, medium, and high. For example, pushing the button 145 one time, selects low speed, a second time, selects medium speed, and a third time, selects high speed. The three lights 146, 147, and 148, can indicate whether the pressure / pulsation speed is low, medium, or high, respectively. The on / off button 144 needs to be ON (i.e., powered on) for the button 145 to work and activate the mouthwash from spraying and stopping. In one aspect, the on / off button 144 just turns the power on but does not start the spraying of the mouthwash. The button 144 is utilized to turn on and off the water flosser 1 (e.g., the motor 109). The button 145 is used to change the speed of the motor 109 and start and stop the water pressure. In one aspect, the second button 145 is only operational when the first button 144 is on turning on the motor 109. This dual button system (i.e., 144 and 145) prevents the flosser apparatus 1 for inadvertently spraying the mouthwash when not intended.
[0037] FIG. 6 is a top rear perspective view of the bottle 100 and the handle 105 showing a top hole 150 on a top surface 106 of the handle 105 for inserting the flosser tip (not shown) and a button 155 on the top surface 106 of the handle 105 to release the flosser tip from the handle 105 according to an aspect of the present invention. The flosser tip can be pushed into the top hole 105 and locked in place. When the button 155 is pressed, the flosser tip can be removed and replaced with a new flosser tip if desired.

FIG. 7 also shows the motor 109, the tube 140, and the LED 170. The LED 170 transmits light beams down into the bottle 100. The battery can be charged using a standard USB charger. Hence, the battery is electrically connected to and supplies power to the motor 109 and the LED 170.

Claims
CLAIMSWhat is claimed is:
1. A flosser having a nozzle for cleaning a user’s teeth and gums, the flosser comprising: a bottle having a top opening and defining an internal cavity or chamber for storing a fluid; a door movably attached to the bottle and configured to swivel from an open position to a closed position, the door having an internal pod holder; a tube located inside the internal cavity or chamber of the bottle; a motor positioned above the bottle, coupled to the tube, and configured to cause the fluid to move from the bottle, through the tube, and into the nozzle; a battery positioned adjacent to the motor for powering the motor; a casing surrounding the motor and the battery and having a top hole configured to receive the nozzle; a first button positioned on the casing and configured to turn on and off the motor; and a second button positioned on the casing and configured to select a speed of the motor to cause the fluid to exit the nozzle at the selected speed to clean the user’s teeth and gums.
2. The flosser of claim 1 further comprising a liquid filled pod configured to fit within the internal pod holder, the liquid filled pod containing concentrated mouthwash and having a seal to hold the mouthwash within the liquid filled pod.
3. The flosser of claim 2 wherein the seal is punctured when the door is moved to or is in the closed position to allow the concentrated mouthwash to enter into the internal cavity orchamber of the bottle.
4. The flosser of claim 2 wherein the door, when in the open position, can rest on or contact a table or a counter for easier installation of the liquid filled pod.
5. The flosser of claim 2 further comprising one or more plastic spikes attached to the bottle for puncturing the seal of the liquid filled pod when the door is in the closed position.
6. The flosser of claim 1 wherein the bottle and the motor lie along the same Y-axis.
7. The flosser of claim 1 wherein the bottle is tapered and has an exterior surface that is flush with an exterior surface of the casing.
8. The flosser of claim 1 wherein the door is attached to a bottom rear portion of the bottle.
9. The flosser of claim 1 further comprising a light emitting diode attached to the motor or the casing and is activated when the motor is on to emit light into the bottle.
10. The flosser of claim 1 wherein the door is attached to a bottom rear portion of the bottle.
11. The flosser of claim 1 wherein the door, when in the closed position, lies along a plane perpendicular to a base of the bottle.
12. A water flosser having a nozzle for cleaning a user’s teeth and gums, the water flosser comprising: a bottle having a top opening and defining an internal cavity or chamber for storing a fluid; a door movably attached to the bottle and configured to swivel from an open position to a closed position, the door having an internal circular protruding rim; a mouthwash pod configured to fit within the internal circular protruding rim, the mouthwash pod containing concentrated mouthwash and having a seal to hold the mouthwash within the mouthwash pod, the seal being punctured when the door is moved to or is in the closed position to allow the concentrated mouthwash to enter into the internal cavity or chamber of the bottle; a tube located inside the internal cavity or chamber of the bottle; a motor positioned above the bottle, coupled to the tube, and configured to cause the fluid to move from the bottle, through the tube, and into the nozzle; a battery positioned adjacent to the motor for powering the motor; a casing surrounding the motor and the battery and having a top hole configured to receive the nozzle; a first button positioned on the casing and configured to turn on and off the motor; and a second button only operational when the first button is on and positioned on the casing and configured to select a speed of the motor to cause the fluid to exit the nozzle at the selected speed to clean the user’s teeth and gums.

15. The water flosser of claim 12 wherein the door is attached to a bottom rear portion of the bottle.
16. The water flosser of claim 12 further comprising one or more plastic spikes attached to the bottle for puncturing the seal of the mouthwash pod when the door is in the closed position.
17. The water flosser of claim 12 further comprising a light emitting diode attached to the motor or the casing and is activated when the motor is on to emit light into the bottle.
18. The water flosser of claim 12 wherein the door is attached to a bottom rear portion of the bottle.
19. The water flosser of claim 12 wherein the door, when in the closed position, lies along a plane perpendicular to a base of the bottle.
20. The water flosser of claim 12 wherein the door, when in the open position, can rest on a table or a counter for easier installation of the mouthwash pod.
