[0047] Embodiments of the present disclosure are described in detail with the technical matters, structural features, achieved objects, and effects with reference to the accompanying drawings as follows. Specifically, the terminologies in the embodiments of the present disclosure are merely for describing the purpose of the certain embodiment, but not to limit the disclosure.

[0048] The diversified use cases and exponential growth of number of UEs in the next generation wireless communication system have increased the data traffic explosively which leads to the high requirements of spectral efficiency. In order to accomplish the requirements of high spectral efficiency, time division duplex (TDD) system is widely adopted in commercial NR deployments. TDD system uses a single spectrum (frequency band) for downlink (DL) and uplink (UL) in different time slots, and utilizes the available spectrum more efficiently as compared to the Frequency Division Duplex (FDD) system.

[0049] In conventional TDD system, the time domain resources are split between the downlink (DL) , uplink (UL) and flexible slots / symbols / slots, where the flexible slots / symbols / slots can be used as DL, UL or as a guard period for DL-UL switching. Allocation of a limited time duration for uplink in conventional TDD would result in reduced coverage, increased latency and reduced capacity. In order to enhance the limitations of conventional TDD operation, 3GPP RAN working group approves a study item [1] in Rel-18, which focus on the feasibility of simultaneous existence of DL and UL, as known as full duplex, or more specifically, sub-band non-overlapping full duplex operation within a conventional TDD band. In SBFD operation, gNB is operated in full duplex, i.e. the simultaneous DL and UL transmission occurs at gNB side only while the UE operates in half duplex. The study item specifies the following RAN1 objectives regarding the sub-band non-overlapping full duplex and dynamic / flexible TDD operation includes Studying the subband non-overlapping full duplex and potential enhancements on dynamic / flexible TDD (RAN1, RAN4) . For example, identify possible schemes and evaluate their feasibility and performances (RAN1) . For example, study inter-gNB and inter-UE CLI handling and identify solutions to manage them (RAN1) . For example, consider intra-subband CLI and inter-subband CLI in case of the subband non-overlapping full duplex. For example, study the performance of the identified schemes as well as the impact on legacy operation assuming their co-existence in co-channel and adjacent channels (RAN1) .

[0050] In Rel-18, the baseline for the SBFD operation is established, in which it is agreed that the existing TDD slot format can be used to configured the SBFD operation. For instance, an UL subband can be configured in DL or flexible symbols / slots. In addition, it is agreed that the semi-static cell common signaling such as TDD-UL-DL ConfigCommon can be used to indicate / configure the time and frequency location of the SBFD operation to the RRC connected states UEs.

[0051] In Rel-19, the 3GPP RAN working group has approved a work item and revised in RAN plenary 104 meeting. That is to specify the time and frequency domain location of subband non-overlapping full duplex (SBFD) subbands to UEs in RRC_CONNECTED mode, support random access in SBFD symbols / slots by UEs in RRC_CONNECTED mode, and specify SBFD operation to UE in RRC_IDLE / INACTIVE mode. The main aim of Rel-19 work item is to specify the UE transmission, reception, measurement behaviour, and procedures in SBFD symbols / slots and / or non-SBFD symbols / slots for SBFD aware UE, enhance resource allocation in frequency domain in SBFD symbols, and handle collision between DL reception in DL subband (s) and UL transmission in UL subband in a SBFD symbol. In addition, the Rel-19 work item for SBFD operation also supports to study random access in SBFD operation. The objective of Rel-19 work item related to random access operation in SBFD symbols / slots in both connected state and idle / inactive state are given as below: Specify SBFD operation to support random access in SBFD symbols / slots by UEs in RRC_CONNECTED mode and RRC_IDLE / INACTIVE mode [RAN1, RAN2] .

[0052] The main motivation for supporting the random access in SBFD symbols / slots is to enhance the UL coverage, reduce the random / initial access latency, improve the PRACH and Msg3 coverage, and improve the flexibility of the initial / random access by offloading random access from the fixed UL slots to SBFD symbols. Furthermore, during the RAN1#116 meeting, the following conclusions are reached regarding the benefits of supporting random access in SBFD symbols / slots for UEs in idle / inactive state. The following conclusions include: If PRACH is allowed in SBFD symbols / slots for SBFD-aware UEs in RRC_IDLE / INACTIVE mode, RAN1 observed the following: 1. The benefits include at least one or more of the following: reduced random access latency, reduced PRACH collision probability or allowing more contiguous frequency resources for PUSCH in UL slots, improved coverage of PRACH with sparse UL resources, increased cell range of PRACH with sparse UL resources. 2. PRACH transmissions in UL subband in SBFD symbols / slots may cause UE-to-UE CLI (similar to the case of RRC connected mode UEs) for some deployment scenarios. Initial studies based on two companies’ evaluation results, the DL performance degradation due to UE-to-UE CLI caused by PRACH transmission in SBFD symbols / slots is not significant for indoor office scenario and Urban Macro scenario.

[0053] I In 3GPP RAN1#116 meeting, it is agreed to support 4 step RACH in SBFD symbols / slots and further study 2 step random access procedure in SBFD symbols. That is, For SBFD aware UEs in RRC CONNECTED state, support Type-1 random access procedure (4-step RACH) in SBFD symbols. Type-2 random access procedure (2-step RACH) is for further study.

[0054] However, there is currently no study on the how to configure and support 2 step RACH in SBFD symbols. In addition, there is no concrete proposals in 3GPP meetings regarding the configuration of message A (MsgA) RACH occasion, MsgA PUSCH occasion, and message B (MsgB) response window in SBFD symbols / slots. Therefore, further studies are needed to address the issues related to the configuration and supporting of 2 step RACH in SBFD symbols, including the enhancement in MsgA RACH occasion and MsgA PUSCH occasion in SBFD symbols / slot.

[0055] Furthermore, in 3GPP RAN1#117 meeting, the following agreement is achieved regarding the configuration options for RACH occasion (4-step RACH) in SBFD symbols. The following agreement includes confirming the following working assumption. The following working assumption includes that: 1. For SBFD-aware UEs in RRC CONNECTED state, both RACH configuration Option 1 with Alternative (Alt) 1-1 (i.e., use one single RACH configuration, and only based on the existing parameters of the single RACH configuration) and RACH configuration Option 2 (i.e., Use two separate RACH configurations, including one legacy RACH configuration and one additional RACH configuration) are supported. Enabling both options at the same time for a UE is not supported. 2. For Option 1 with Alt 1-1, FFS: whether / how to reinterpret msg1-FrequencyStart in rach-ConfigCommon, RO validation rules and SSB-RO mapping rules, etc. 3. For Option 2, For further study (FFS) : the RO validation rules, SSB-RO mapping rules, whether all the parameters currently in rach-ConfigCommon are necessary to be included in the additional RACH configuration, etc. 4. UE is not required to support both options.

[0056] In current technologies, different options are proposed regarding the configuration of ROs (in 4 step RACH) , in SBFD symbols. However, there is currently no study on the enhancement of several parameters which can be used to configure in the RACH in both SBFD and non-SBFD symbols. Therefore, further study is  needed to find solutions for the configuration options of 4 step RACH in SBFD and non-SBFD symbols / slots for both UEs in RRC connected state and idle / inactive state.

[0057] The main objective of supporting random access operation in SBFD symbols / slots in both RRC connected and idle / inactive states is to enhance the UL coverage, including MsgA RACH occasion, MsgA PUSCH occasion, 4 step PRACH occasion, and MSG3, and reduce UL latency, increase UL capacity, and efficiently utilize the spectrum to perform simultaneous DL and UL transmission at the gNB side. However, there are several issues, in both 2 step RACH 4 step RACH configuration in SBFD symbols / slots and supporting random access in idle / inactive state as explained below.

[0058] Problem 1: 2 Step RACH in SBFD symbols / slot:

[0059] 2-step has the advantage of reducing latency by simplifying the 4-step RACH that carries preamble and payload separately. In 2 step RACH MsgA contains a preamble on PRACH (msg1 in 4 step RACH) and a payload on PUSCH (message 3 in 4-step RACH) , which is the first scheduled uplink transmission. After transmitting MsgA with a preamble, a UE waits for a message B (MsgB) from the gNB on PDSCH in a configured time window for MsgB. However, 2 step RACH in SBFD symbols / slots may face several issues as discussed below.

[0060] Issue 1: Regarding MsgA issue:

[0061] Issue 1-1: Configuration of MsgA in 2 step RACH in SBFD symbols / slots:

[0062] In 2 step RACH, the RACH occasion of MsgA is configured by using the similar configuration procedure with the 4 step RACH, such as MsgA RO-FDM and MsgA RO-FrequencyStart, as an information element given below from TS 38.331.

[0063] Information element including MsgA RO-FDM and MsgA RO-FrequencyStart:

[0064] FIG. 1 is a schematic diagram illustrating an example of message A (MsgA) random access channel (RACH) occasion (RO) frequency division multiplexed (FDM) and start frequency (FrequencyStart) of MsgA in sub-band full duplex (SBFD) symbols / slots with a comparison in non-SBFD symbols / slots. In current specification, the MsgA PRACH occasion (RO) configured with parameter such as MsgA RO-FDM according to the bandwidth of initial / active UL BWP as given in [TS 38.213] . In case the MsgA RO is configured in UL subband the maximum numbers of ROs frequency-division multiplexed (FDMed) (MsgA RO-FDM) in frequency domain is up to 8, which may go beyond the limit of the UL subband usable PRBs and overlap with the DL subband PRBs as illustrated in FIG. 1.

[0065] In addition, in non-SBFD symbols / slots (UL symbols / slots) , an offset of the lowest RO in frequency domain with respect to PRB#0 (MsgA-FrequencyStart) is configured, so that the corresponding RO lies within the bandwidth of the initial / active UL BWP, which means that if the existing starting RB is used to configure the lowest RO of MsgA (in frequency domain) , it may not be aligned with the usable PRBs of the UL subband as illustrated in FIG. 1. Therefore, it is necessary to enhance these parameters according to the usable PRBs in the UL subband.

[0066] Issue 1-2: Regarding PUSCH occasion in MsgA issue.

[0067] According to the current specification [TS 38.213] , the configuration of time and frequency resources for MsgA is according to the bandwidth of the initial / active UL BWP as given below. That is, a UE determines time resources and frequency resources for PUSCH occasions in an active UL BWP from MsgA-PUSCH-Config for the active UL BWP. If the active UL BWP is not the initial UL BWP and MsgA-PUSCH-Config is not provided for the active UL BWP, the UE uses the MsgA-PUSCH-Config provided for the initial UL BWP.

[0068] In case MsgA is configured in SBFD symbols, the time resources and frequency resources can be limited to bandwidth of the UL subband usable PRBs, which may affect the configuration of one or more of the following parameters. Therefore, it may necessary to enhanced the following parameters according to the bandwidth of the UL subband usable PRBs. The following parameters include frequencyStartMsgA-PUSCH, nrofMsgA PO-FDM, MsgA-IntraSlotFrequencyHopping, and MsgA-DMRS-Config.

[0069] Issue 1-3: Mapping of preambles in PRACH occasion to PUSCH occasion (POs) of MsgA in SBFD symbols:

[0070] According to current specification, TS 38.213, there is a many-to-one and one-to-one mapping between the preambles on PRACH and PUSCH occasion in MsgA as given below. That is wherein a UE does not transmit a PUSCH in a PUSCH occasion if the PUSCH occasion associated with a demodulation reference signal (DMRS) resource is not mapped to a preamble of valid PRACH occasions or if the associated PRACH preamble is not transmitted as described in clause 7.5 or clause 11.1. A UE can transmit a PRACH preamble in a valid PRACH occasion if the PRACH preamble is not mapped to a valid PUSCH occasion. A mapping between one or multiple PRACH preambles and a PUSCH occasion associated with a DMRS resource is per PUSCH configuration.

[0071] The mapping rules between the preambles on the PRACH occasion and the PUSCH occasion in MsgA are given below. That is wherein a PUSCH occasion for PUSCH transmission is defined by a frequency resource and a time resource, and is associated with a DMRS resource. The DMRS resources are provided by MsgA-DMRS-Config. Disclosed is each consecutive number of Npreamble preamble indexes from valid PRACH occasions in a PRACH slot: First, in increasing order of preamble indexes within a single PRACH occasion. Second, in increasing order of frequency resource indexes for frequency multiplexed PRACH occasions. Third, in increasing order of time resource indexes for time multiplexed PRACH occasions within a PRACH slot.

[0072] Disclosed is mapping to a valid PUSCH occasion and the associated DMRS resource: First, in increasing order of frequency resource indexes fid for frequency multiplexed PUSCH occasions. Second, in increasing order of DMRS resource indexes within a PUSCH occasion, where a DMRS resource index DMRSid is determined first in an ascending order of a DMRS port index and second in an ascending order of a DMRS sequence index [4, TS 38.211] . Third, in increasing order of time resource indexes tid for time multiplexed PUSCH occasions within a PUSCH slot. Fourth, in increasing order of indexes for Ns PUSCH slots.

[0073] If 2 step RACH is configured in SBFD symbols / slots, the preambles in PRACH and PUSCH occasion can be located in the UL subbands usable PRBs in SBFD symbols, or the UL symbol / slot as discussed in the following two cases.

[0074] Case 1:

[0075] FIG. 2 is a schematic diagram illustrating an example of Illustration of MsgA RO and MsgA physical uplink shared channel (PUSCH) occasion (PO) in SBFD symbols / slots. Case 1 discusses an example where both the preambles of PRACH and PUSCH occasion and its associated DMRs resources located in SBFD symbols / slots as illustrated in FIG. 2. In this example, one-to-one mapping of preamble on PRACH is configured in SBFD symbols / slots and payload on PUSCH is assumed. In this case, the existing mapping rules can be applied to preambles of PRACH and PUSCH occasion located in the bandwidth of the UL subband usable PRBs, and there is no issue regarding mapping between PRACH in preambles and PUSCH occasion in this case.

[0076] Case 2:

[0077] FIG. 3 is a schematic diagram illustrating an example of mapping MsgA RO in SBFD symbols / slots to MsgA PO in non-SBFD symbols / slots. Case 2 discusses an example, where the preamble on PRACH is configured in SBFD symbols / slots and payload on PUSCH is configured in non-SBFD UL symbols / slots in different set of PRBs as shown in FIG. 3. In this case, the mapping between preamble in PRACH and PUSCH occasion may violate the rules defined in the current specification. According to the current specification [TS 38.213] , the set of RBs in which PUSCH occasion is configured can be the same RB set as the corresponding  PRACH transmission as given below. That is for operation with shared spectrum channel access, if the PUSCH occasion is provided by higher layer parameters frequencyStartMsgA-PUSCH and nrofPRBs-perMsgA PO, the UE expects a PUSCH occasion to be confined within the same RB set as the corresponding PRACH transmission. Since case 2 violates the existing specification rules, therefore, new rules can be defined for mapping between the preambles in PRACH and PUSCH occasion for 2 step RACH in SBFD symbols.

[0078] Problem 2: 4-step RACH configuration option 1 and option 2 in connected and idle / inactive state:

[0079] In RAN1#117 meeting, two options of RACH configuration are agreed where option 1 is using only one configuration to configure RACH in SBFD and non-SBFD symbols / slots and option 2 is using two configurations, where one is legacy configuration which is used to configure RACH in non-SBFD symbols / slots and the additional configuration is used to configure RACH in SBFD symbols.

[0080] In some embodiments of this disclosure, the following issues are discussed.

[0081] Issue in option 1:

[0082] In RACH configuration option 1, where one configuration is used to configure RACH in SBFD symbols / slots and non-SBFD symbols / slots. Since the available PRBs in non-SBFD UL symbols / slots are different from the usable PRBs in UL subband, using one configuration without enhancement, the gNB could configure the RACH according to the initial / UL BWP. Therefore, option 1 needs enhancement in order to use for RACH configuration in SBFD symbols / slots.

[0083] FIG. 4 is a schematic diagram illustrating an example of time resources of physical random channel access (PRACH) configuration indexes from the current specification. In time domain, the time domain resources (sub-frame indices) in the existing specification table [TS 38.211 Tables 6.3.3.2-2 to 6.3.3.2-4] are designed to align the transmission time resources with the uplink slots in the TDD-UL-DL pattern. These tables are specifically created for PRACH configuration and transmission in FR1 / FR2 unpaired spectrum. However, when it comes to SBFD random access operation in RRC-connected UEs or the RRC idle / inactive UEs on a TDD carrier in unpaired spectrum, using the same tables for PRACH transmission in the SBFD symbols / slots (UL subband) is not suitable. This is because the SBFD symbols / slots are configured in TDD D / F symbols / slots, whereas the current tables are designed for locating the PRACH in the UL symbols / slots. An illustrative example of this situation is shown in FIG. 4, where the PRACH configuration indexes 4 and 5 are used with a common slot pattern of DDDSUDDSUU.

[0084] Moreover, in case only one RACH configuration (option 1) is used to configure RACH occasion in SBFD and / or non-SBFD symbols, a single PRACH configuration index is unable to indicate the time domain parameters (subframe / slot number, duration etc. ) of RACH in both SBFD and non-SBFD symbols. Because the existing PRACH configuration index, can indicate the RACH location in time domain such as frames, slots, symbols / slots which are generally configured as UL frame / slot / symbols.

[0085] Issue in option 2:

[0086] In RACH configuration option 2, where an additional configuration can be used to configure RACH in SBFD symbols / slots, it is agreed that to use the existing configuration indexes and no new configuration indexes can be introduced. However, when an additional configuration is used to configure the RACH in SBFD symbols, an additional PRACH configuration index can be included in the additional RACH configuration to  indicate the time domain parameters of RACH in SBFD symbols. However, the existing PRACH configuration index can only indicate the time resources such as the sub-frame / slot or symbols / slots which is configured as UL sub-frame / slot or symbol. Therefore, how the additional PRACH configuration index can be used to indicate the DL / flexible sub-frame / slot or symbol / slot where the SBFD operation is configured, in order to indicate the PRACH location in time domain in SBFD symbols / slots.

[0087] Some embodiments of the present disclosure are related to a 5G NR communication system. Some embodiments study RACH in SBFD symbols / slots, and propose several enhancements to the 2 step RACH in SBFD symbols / slots and the configuration of 2 step and 4 step RACH in SBFD and non-SBFD symbols / slots to the SBFD aware UEs in RRC connected state and RRC idle / inactive state. Some embodiments of the present disclosure propose enhancement to the parameters of 2 step RACH and 4 step RACH in the existing specification, in order to make the 2 step RO and PO, as well as the 4 step RO suitable for configuration within the usable PRBs of the UL subband in SBFD symbols / slots as given below.

[0088] For 2-step RACH the following enhancements are proposed: 1. Frequency domain parameters of the MsgA PRACH occasion (RO) such as MsgA RO-FDM, and MsgA-FrquencyStart, and MsgA PUSCH occasion (PO) such as frequencyStartMsgA-PUSCH, nrofMsgA PO-FDM, MsgA-IntraSlotFrequencyHopping, and / or MsgA-DMRS-Config. 2. New validation rules for MsgA ROs, and / or valid MsgA POs in different symbol / slot types (i.e. in SBFD symbols / slots and non-SBFD symbols) . 3. A single configuration and / or two separate configurations for 2 step RACH configuration in SBFD and non-SBFD symbols. Some embodiments are related to configure 2-step RACH in SBFD and / or non-SBFD symbols / slots for SBFD aware UEs in RRC connected and / or RRC idle inactive state. The first solution / idea propose several enhancements to the time domain and frequency domain parameters of the existing specification in order to configure MsgA RACH occasion and MsgA PUSCH occasion in the UL subband usable PRBs in SBFD symbols / slots, and / or in non-SBFD symbols / slots as discussed in details in the following embodiments.

[0089] For 4-step RACH the following enhancements are proposed: 1. Enhancement to a single configuration for RACH occasion in both SBFD and non-SBFD symbols. 2. New column (s) is / are introduced to existing specification tables [6.3.3.2-2, and 6.3.3.2-3 for FR1, and 6.3.3.2-4 for FR2 in TS 38.211] to indicate time domain parameters of RACH in both SBFD and non-SBFD symbols. 3. For SBFD aware UE in idle / inactive state: a single configuration in SIB1 / SIBx with a single set of parameters or two separate configurations with separate frequency and time domain parameters are proposed. Some embodiments are related to the enhancement in the different configuration options for 4-step RACH in SBFD and / or non-SBFD symbols / slots in order to indicate the frequency domain, and time domain resources of the RACH occasion to SBFD aware UEs in RRC connected and / or in RRC idle / inactive state, as discussed in details in the following embodiments.

[0090] Some embodiments of the present disclosure discuss random access using SBFD symbols / slots and have one or more of the following advantages: 1. The enhancements in the frequency domain and time domain parameters of 2-step RACH can make the configuration of 2-step RACH suitable in UL subband usable PRBs in SBFD symbols, and reduces the RACH latency by supporting 2-step RACH in SBFD symbols. 2. The configuration options for 2-step RACH proposed by this disclosure uses a single configuration to configure 2-step RACH for SBFD aware UEs in SBFD symbols / slots and non-SBFD symbols / slots, and thus reduces the signaling overhead. 3. In 4-step RACH, this invention proposes a single PRACH configuration index, which can  indicate the time domain parameters of the RACH occasion configured in SBFD and non-SBFD symbols / slots, introduces new column to the existing specification PRACH configuration tables, and thus reduces the indication of separate PRACH configuration index for time domain parameters in SBFD and non-SBFD symbols / slots.

[0096] In some scenarios, one parameter is used to configure random access in both SBFD symbols / slots and non-SBFD symbols / slots. In addition, some embodiments have mentioned SBFD symbols / slots “and / or” non-SBFD symbols / slots, which provide a choice to select either SBFD symbols / slots or non-SBFD symbols / slots or both of the SBFD symbols / slots and the non-SBFD symbols / slots.

[0097] In some embodiments, the wireless communication method further comprises receiving, from the UE, a MsgA preamble on a physical random access channel (PRACH) in UL subband usable physical resource blocks (PRBs) in SBFD symbols / slots and / or UL symbols. In some embodiments, the wireless communication method further comprises receiving, from the UE, a MsgA PUSCH payload in the UL subband usable PRBs in SBFD symbols / slots and / or the in non-SBFD UL symbols / slots. In some embodiments, the wireless communication method further comprises transmitting, to the UE, a MsgB contention resolution in DL subband usable PRBs in SBFD symbols / slots and / or in non-SBFD DL symbols / slots.

[0098] For examples, in details, FIG. 6C is a flowchart illustrating a procedure of 2 step RACH in SBFD symbols / slots and / or non-SBFD symbols / slots according to an embodiment of the present disclosure. 2-step RACH MsgA contains a preamble on PRACH and a payload on PUSCH, which is the first scheduled uplink transmission. After transmitting MsgA with a preamble, a UE waits for a message B (MsgB) from the gNB on PDSCH in a configured time window for MsgB. In order to configure 2-step RACH in SBFD symbols / slots, some embodiments of this disclosure assume that SBFD operation within TDD DL / Flexible symbols / slots are already configured to the UEs in RRC connected and / or RRC idle / inactive state. In addition, the period of the SBFD operation in time domain is similar to the period of TDD operation, and the SBFD DL / UL subbands are explicitly indicated to the UEs as illustrated in FIG. 6C.

[0099] For examples, in details, FIG. 6D is a flowchart illustrating a procedure of a configuration of 2 step RACH in SBFD symbols / slots according to an embodiment of the present disclosure. The 2-step RACH can be configured with the enhanced parameters such as enhanced MsgA RACH occasion, enhanced MsgA PUSCH occasion and the enhanced mapping between preambles in RACH occasion and MsgA PUSCH occasion to the SBFD aware UEs as illustrated in FIG. 6D. FIG. 6D illustrates that, in some embodiments, the procedure of a configuration of 2 step RACH in SBFD symbols / slots includes an operation 601D, performing, by the base station, a configuration of the SBFD operation within TDD DL or Flexible symbols / slots to the UEs in RRC connected state and / or idle / inactive state, wherein the period / periodicity of SBFD operation is similar to the TDD operation and the configuration includes the explicit indication of an uplink (UL) and DL subbands, and an operation 602D, configuring by the base station, a configuration of 2 step RACH to the UEs in RRC connected  and / or idle / inactive state, wherein the configuration includes the enhanced MsgA RACH occasion, the enhanced MsgA PUSCH occasion and / or the enhanced MsgB response window in SBFD symbols / slots and / or non-SBFD symbols / slots.

[0100] Embodiment 1: MSGA in SBFD symbols / slots:

[0101] The key innovation points associated with 2-step RACH in SBFD symbols / slots, and / or non-SBFD symbols / slots as shown in FIG. 6D, given below. Enhancements are proposed to the frequency domain parameters of MsgA RACH occasion and MsgA PUSCH occasion in order to confine the MsgA RO and MsgA PO to the usable PRBs of the UL subband in SBFD symbols / slots and slots and avoid the overlapping of MsgA RO and MsgA PO with the DL subband usable PRBs. The details of how to enhance the MsgA RACH occasion are explained in Embodiment 1. In addition, several validation rules are proposed to define the valid ROs and valid POs in the UL subband of usable PRBs.

[0102] 2-step RACH Msg-A contains a preamble on PRACH and a payload on PUSCH. This embodiment discusses the configuration of MsgA in the SBFD symbols / slots. In some embodiments, a maximum number of the MsgA RACH occasions in frequency domain configured in the UL subband usable PRBs is selected from 1, 2, or 4. In some embodiments, the MsgA RACH occasions are configured in a bandwidth of the UL subband usable PRBs in the SBFD symbols / slots. In some embodiments, in a DL, UL, DL (DUD) subband pattern, a starting location of a lowest MsgA RACH occasion in the frequency domain in the SBFD symbols / slots is based on a starting PRB of the UL subband usable PRBs. In some embodiments, in a DL, UL (DU) subband pattern and / or a UL, DL (UD) subband pattern, a starting location of a lowest MsgA RACH occasion in the frequency domain in the SBFD symbols / slots is based on a starting PRB of the UL subband usable PRBs.

[0103] In details, for examples, regarding frequency domain parameters of MsgA RACH occasion in the SBFD symbols / slots, in current specification, the maximum number of MsgA RACH occasion FDMed in frequency domain (i.e., MsgA RO-FDM) , and the offset of the lowest MsgA RO (MsgA RO-FrequencyStart) in frequency domain are configured with respect to PRB#0 (in RACH-ConfigGenericTwoStepRA) according to the bandwidth of the initial / active UL BWP. Using the existing configuration and the frequency start may overlapped the MsgA RO with the DL subbands usable PRBs as explained in the above problem. In order to avoid these issues, this embodiment of the present disclosure proposes the following enhancements to the configuration of MsgA RO.

[0104] In some examples, a new maximum number (limit) of the MsgA ROs configured in frequency domain for the PRACH transmission occasion (i.e., MsgA RO-FDM) can be defined for the MsgA ROs configuration in UL subband usable PRBs in the SBFD symbol / slots. Since the DUD subband pattern and DU subband pattern in frequency domain divide the BWP into three parts and two parts, respectively. Therefore, the maximum number of ROs configured in UL subband can be limited to 1, 2, or 4. The amount of usable PRBs is based on the gNB implementation. When some examples select 1, 2, or 4 (the maximum number of ROs configured in UL subband) , the gNB calculates the amount of RBs (which depends on several other factors as well) and configures the RACH occasion in frequency domain.

[0105] In some examples, a new offset of the lowest MsgA RO in frequency domain with respect to PRB#0 (MsgA RO-FrequencyStart) can be configured, for example, in RACH-ConfigGenericTwoStepRA for the MsgA  RO configuration in SBFD symbols / slots, so that the corresponding MsgA ROs placed within the bandwidth of the UL subband usable PRBs. FIG. 7 is a schematic diagram illustrating a frequency start of a lowest MsgA RO in DL, UL, DL (DUD) subband pattern according to an embodiment of the present disclosure. FIG. 8 is a schematic diagram illustrating a frequency start of a lowest MsgA RO in DL, UL (DU) subband pattern and / or a UL, DL (UD) subband pattern according to an embodiment of the present disclosure. For instance, in DUD subband pattern, the starting location of the lowest MsgA RO in frequency domain (Msg-A RO FrequencyStart) can be defined according to the starting usable PRB of the UL subband as shown in FIG. 7. In the same way, in DU, and UD subband pattern the starting location of the lowest MsgA RO in frequency domain (Msg-A RO FrequencyStart) can be defined according to the starting usable PRB of the UL subband as illustrated in FIG. 8.

[0106] In some embodiments, the MsgA PUSCH occasions are configured in a bandwidth of the UL subband usable PRBs. In some embodiments, in a DUD subband pattern, a starting location of a lowest MsgA PUSCH occasion in the frequency domain is based on a starting PRB of the UL subband usable PRBs. In some embodiments, in a DU subband pattern and / or a UD subband pattern, a starting location of a lowest MsgA PUSCH occasion in the frequency domain is based on a starting PRB of the UL subband usable PRBs in the SBFD symbols / slots. In some embodiments, a maximum number of the MsgA PUSCH occasions in frequency domain in the SBFD symbols / slots is 2 or 4 for a DUD subband pattern, a DU subband pattern, and / or a UD subband pattern. In some embodiments, a frequency hopping of the MsgA PUSCH occasions comprises a first hop and a second hop, and an offset of the second hop in the SBFD symbols / slots is in a bandwidth of the UL subband usable PRBs. In some embodiments, a demodulation reference signal (DMRS) of the MsgA PUSCH occasions in the SBFD symbols / slots is configured based on a bandwidth of the UL subband usable PRBs.

[0107] In details, for examples, regarding frequency domain parameters of MsgA PUSCH occasion in the SBFD symbols / slots, in current specification, a UE determines time resources and frequency resources for PUSCH occasions in initial / active UL BWP from MsgA-PUSCH-Config. If the active UL BWP is not the initial UL BWP and MsgA-PUSCH-Config is not provided for the active UL BWP, the UE uses the MsgA-PUSCH-Config provided for the initial UL BWP. Using the existing configuration of MsgA PUSCH occasion may go beyond the UL subband usable PRBs and overlapped with the DL subband usable PRBs as given discussed in details in the above problem. In order to solve these issues, this embodiment of the present disclosure proposes the following enhancements in order to configure the MsgA PUSCH occasion in the UL subband usable PRBs in the SBFD symbols / slots.

[0108] One frequency domain parameter of MsgA PUSCH occasion in the SBFD symbols / slots may be FrequencyStart MsgA-PUSCH. In the current specification, the frequency start MsgA-PUSCH is according to the initial UL bandwidth or the active UL bandwidth. The frequency start of the lowest MsgA-PUSCH occasion in SBFD symbols / slots can be configured according to the starting usable PRBs of the UL subband. FIG. 9 is a schematic diagram illustrating a frequency start of MsgA PUSCH occasion in a DUD subband pattern according to an embodiment of the present disclosure. FIG. 10 is a schematic diagram illustrating a frequency start of a lowest MsgA PUSCH occasion in a DU subband pattern and / or a UD subband pattern according to an embodiment of the present disclosure. For instance, in case MsgA PUSCH is configured in DUD subband pattern the frequency start of the lowest PO of MsgA (Msg-A PO FrequencyStart) can be started from the starting of  the UL subband usable PRBs as shown in FIG. 9. In the same way, the frequency start of MsgA PUSCH occasion DU or UD subband (Msg-A PO FrequencyStart) is shown in FIG. 10 respectively.

[0109] Regarding a parameter, MsgA PO-FDM, it refers to the number of MsgA PUSCH occasions FDMed in one time instance. In current specification, the number of MsgA PO-FDM is up to maximum of 8. In some cases, this the maximum number of MsgA PO-FDM can go beyond the frequency resources of the UL subband usable PRBs. In order to multiplex the number of MsgA PO-FDM within the UL subband usable PRBs, this embodiment of the present disclosure proposes to reduce the maximum number PUSCH occasion FDMed in frequency domain is up to 2 or 4 for DUD subband pattern and DU / UD subband pattern. The amount of usable PRBs is based on the gNB implementation. When some examples select 2 or 4 (the maximum number PUSCH occasion FDMed in frequency domain) , the gNB calculates the amount of RBs (which depends on several other factors as well) and configures the PUSCH occasion in frequency domain.

[0110] Regarding a parameter, MsgA-IntraSlotFrequencyHopping, in case the frequency hopping is enabled for PUSCH occasion in MsgA, this embodiment of the present disclosure proposes to confine the offset of the second hop within the bandwidth of the UL subband usable PRBs. For instance, the frequency offset of the second hop for MsgA intra slot frequency hopping can be defined as Table 1, in order to keep the second hope of MsgA PO within the UL subband usable PRBs.

[0111] Table 1: Frequency of the second hop in MsgA PUSCH occasion:

[0112] Regarding a parameter, MsgA-DMRS-Config, in current speciation, the DMRS configured for PUSCH transmission in a PUSCH occasion according to an active UL BWP as given from [TS 38.213] , the DMRS of PUSCH occasion is given as a UE is provided a DMRS configuration for a PUSCH transmission in a PUSCH occasion in an active UL BWP by MsgA-DMRS-Config. A UE is provided an MCS for data information in a PUSCH transmission for a PUSCH occasion by MsgA-MCS.

[0113] Reusing the configuration of same DMRS for MsgA for PUSCH occasion configured in UL usable PRBs in UL subband is not suitable. In order to solve this issue, this embodiment of the present disclosure proposes to configure DMRS for PUSCH transmission in PUSCH occasion in UL usable PRBs of the UL subband in SBFD symbols. In other words, the DMRS of MsgA PUSCH occasion can be configured according to the bandwidth of the UL subband usable PRBs.

[0114] Configuration and validation of MsgA ROs and MsgA PO in different symbol / slot types for SBFD aware UE:

[0115] This embodiment of the present disclosure discusses the following possible cases where MsgA RACH occasion, MsgA PUSCH occasion are configured in different symbols / slots types e.g. in SBFD and non-SBFD symbols.

[0116] In some embodiments, if the MsgA RACH occasion is fully or partially across a SBFD symbol / slot and a non-SBFD symbol / slot, the MsgA RACH occasion is invalid. In other embodiments, if the MsgA RACH occasion is across a SBFD symbol / slot and a non-SBFD symbol / slot, the MsgA RACH occasion is valid. For instance, if the MsgA RACH occasion is across the SBFD symbol / slot and the non-SBFD symbol / slot, the MsgA RACH occasion is valid when the MsgA RACH occasion satisfies at least one of following conditions: frequency resources of the MsgA RACH occasion are same in the SBFD symbol / slot and the non-SBFD symbol / slot, and frequency resources of the MsgA RACH occasion are configured in a bandwidth of the UL subband usable PRBs, a number of the MsgA RACH occasions in frequency domain in the SBFD symbol / slot is same as a number of the MsgA RACH occasions in the frequency domain in the non-SBFD symbol / slot, a starting location of a lowest MsgA RACH occasion in the frequency domain in the SBFD symbol / slot is same as a starting location of a lowest MsgA RACH occasion in the frequency domain in the non-SBFD symbol / slot, an UL transmit power and / or a spatial domain filter of the MsgA RACH occasion in the SBFD symbol / slot is same as an UL transmit power and / or a spatial domain filter of the MsgA RACH occasion in the non-SBFD symbol / slot.

[0117] In some embodiments, if the MsgA PUSCH occasion is across a SBFD symbol / slot and a non-SBFD symbol / slot, the MsgA PUSCH occasion is invalid. In other embodiments, if the MsgA PUSCH occasion is across a SBFD symbol / slot and a non-SBFD symbol / slot, the MsgA PUSCH occasion is valid. For instance, if the MsgA PUSCH occasion is across the SBFD symbol / slot and the non-SBFD symbol / slot, the MsgA PUSCH occasion is valid when the MsgA PUSCH occasion satisfies at least one of following conditions: frequency resources of the MsgA PUSCH occasion are same in the SBFD symbol / slot and the non-SBFD symbol / slot, a number of the MsgA PUSCH occasions in frequency domain in the SBFD symbol / slot is same as a number of the MsgA PUSCH occasions in the frequency domain in the non-SBFD symbol / slot, a starting location of a lowest MsgA PUSCH occasion in the frequency domain in the SBFD symbol / slot is same as a starting location of a lowest MsgA PUSCH occasion in the frequency domain in the non-SBFD symbol / slot, a frequency hopping of the MsgA PUSCH occasion in the SBFD symbol / slot is same as a frequency hopping of the MsgA PUSCH occasion in the non-SBFD symbol / slot, a DMRS of the MsgA PUSCH occasion in the SBFD symbol / slot is same as a DMRS of the MsgA PUSCH occasion in the non-SBFD symbol / slot, an UL transmit power and / or a spatial domain filter of the MsgA PUSCH occasion in the SBFD symbol / slot is same as an UL transmit power and / or a spatial domain filter of the MsgA PUSCH occasion in the non-SBFD symbol / slot.

[0118] In some embodiments, the MsgA RACH occasions are configured in the SBFD symbols / slots, and the MsgA PUSCH occasions are configured in non-SBFD symbols / slots. In some embodiments, the MsgA RACH occasions are configured within a bandwidth of UL subband usable PRBs in SBFD symbols / slots, and the MsgA PUSCH occasions are configured based on a bandwidth of an initial / active UL bandwidth part (BWP) . In some embodiments, the MsgA PUSCH occasions are configured in the SBFD symbols / slots, and the MsgA RACH occasions are configured in non-SBFD symbols / slots. In some embodiments, the MsgA PUSCH occasions are configured within a bandwidth of UL subband usable PRBs in SBFD symbols / slots, and the MsgA RACH occasions are configured based on a bandwidth of an initial / active UL bandwidth part (BWP) .

[0119] In details, some examples are provided as below. In case 1, “fully across” means that the symbols / slots where the MsgA RACH is located are non-SBFD symbols / slots. In case 2, “partially across” means that the symbols / slots where the MsgA RACH is located contain both SBFD and non-SBFD symbols / slots. For Examples, the MsgA RACH occasion is located in the symbols / slots in which some of the symbols / slots are SBFD symbols / slots, and some of the symbols / slots are non-SBFD symbols / slots.

[0120] Case 1: MsgA RO in SBFD and non-SBFD symbols / slots:

[0121] In case MsgA RO is configured in such a way that the RACH occasion is across the SBFD symbols / slots and non-SBFD symbols / slots in the same slot or across different slots, in this case this embodiment of the present disclosure proposes the following solutions.

[0122] Alterative Solution 1:

[0123] In case MsgA RO is fully or partially across the SBFD and non-SBFD symbols / slots within the same slot or across the different slots, the MsgA RO can be considered as invalid. For examples, the same slot may refer to the same DL / flexible slot or the same uplink slot. For examples, the different slots may refer to the DL / flexible slot and the uplink slot. In other words, if MsgA RO starts from the SBFD symbol / slot and ends in non-SBFD symbols / slots either in the same slot or across the different slots, and crosses the boundary of the SBFD symbols / slots and non-SBFD symbols / slots, it can be considered as invalid MsgA RO as illustrated in FIG. 11. In this way, the MsgA RO can be restricted to either SBFD symbols / slots or non-SBFD symbols / slots.

[0124] Alterative Solution 2:

[0125] In case MsgA RO is fully or partially across the SBFD symbols / slots and non-SBFD symbols / slots within the same slot or across the different slots, the MsgA RO can be considered as valid MsgA RO. In other words, if MsgA RO starts from the SBFD symbol / slot and ends in the non-SBFD symbol / slot either in the same slot or across the different slots, and crosses the boundary of the SBFD symbols / slots and non-SBFD symbols / slots, it can be considered as valid MsgA RO as illustrated in FIG. 12.

[0126] However, the following same parameters can be configured for the MsgA ROs according to the bandwidth and usable PRBs of the UL subband as shown in FIG. 12. In other words, a MsgA RO crosses the boundary of the SBFD symbols / slots and the non-SBFD symbols / slots, and starts in the SBFD symbols / slots and ends in the non-SBFD symbols / slots is considered as valid MsgA RO when it satisfies the following conditions: some parameters configured for MsgA ROs in SBFD symbols / slots and for MsgA ROs in non-SBFD symbols / slots are identical.

[0127] In some examples, the following same parameters include one or more of the followings: same frequency resources of MsgA RO in SBFD symbols / slots and non-SBFD symbols / slots, and the frequency resources of MsgA RO confined to the bandwidth (usable PRBs) of the UL subband, same number of MsgA RO FDMed in frequency domain (MsgA RO FDM) in SBFD and non-SBFD symbols, same start of the lowest RO (MsgA RO Frequency start) in SBFD and non-SBFD symbols, same UL transmit power and spatial domain filter for MsgA RO in SBFD symbols / slots and non-SBFD symbols / slots. In some examples, MsgA RACH occasion can be in more than one symbol / slotor more than one slot. MsgA RO FDMed may indicate the number of MsgA PRACH transmission occasions Frequency-Division Multiplexed in one time instance for the PRACH resources configured for 2-step RACH.

[0128] Case 2: MsgA PO in SBFD symbols / slots and non-SBFD symbols / slots:

[0129] In case MsgA PO is configured in such a way that the RACH occasion is across the SBFD symbols / slots and non-SBFD symbols / slots in the same slot or across different slots, in this case, this embodiment of the present disclosure proposes the following solutions.

[0130] Alterative Solution 1:

[0131] In case MsgA PO is fully or partially across the SBFD symbols / slots and non-SBFD symbols / slots within the same slot or across the different slots, the MsgA PO can be considered as invalid. In other words, if MsgA PO starts from the SBFD symbol / slot and ends in non-SBFD symbol / slot either in the same slot or across the different slots, and crosses the boundary of the SBFD symbols / slots and non-SBFD symbols / slots, it can be considered as invalid MsgA PO as illustrated in FIG. 13. In this way, the MsgA PO can be restricted to either SBFD symbols / slots or non-SBFD symbols / slots. For examples, the same slot may refer to the same DL / flexible slot or the same uplink slot. For examples, the different slots may refer to the DL / flexible slot and the uplink slot.

[0132] Alterative Solution 2:

[0133] In case MsgA PO is fully or partially crosses the SBFD symbols / slots and non-SBFD symbols / slots within the same slot or across the different slots, the MsgA PO can be considered as valid MsgA PO. In other words, if MsgA PO is start from the SBFD symbol / slot and end in the non-SBFD symbol / slot either in the same slot or across the different slots, and crosses the boundary of the SBFD symbols / slots and non-SBFD symbols / slots, it can be considered as valid MsgA PO as illustrated in FIG. 14.

[0134] However, the following same parameters can be configured for the MsgA POs according to the bandwidth and usable PRBs of the UL subband as shown in FIG. 14. The following same parameters include one or more of the followings: Same frequency resources of MsgA PO in SBFD and non-SBFD symbols, same number of MsgA PO FDMed in frequency domain in SBFD and non-SBFD symbols, same start of the lowest PO (FrequencyStart MsgA-PUSCH) in SBFD and non-SBFD symbols, same frequency hopping of MsgA PUSCH (MsgA-IntraSlotFrequencyHopping) in SBFD and non-SBFD symbols, same DMRS of MsgA PUSCH (MsgA-DMRS-Config) configured in SBFD and non-SBFD symbols, same UL transmit power and spatial domain filter for MsgA PO in SBFD and non-SBFD symbols.

[0135] Case 3: MsgA RO and MsgA PO in different symbol / slot types:

[0136] In case 3, the RACH occasion of MsgA i.e., MsgA RO is configured in SBFD symbols / slots, and PUSCH occasion of MsgA i.e., MsgA PO is configured in non-SBFD UL symbols / slots.

[0137] In this case, a separate configuration can be used to configure MsgA ROs according to the bandwidth of the SBFD symbols / slots and separate configuration can be used to configure the MsgA PO according to the bandwidth of the initial / active UL BWP, i.e., using the existing specification configuration.

[0138] Embodiment 2: Mapping of MsgA RO and MsgA PO in SBFD symbols / slots and non-SBFD symbols / slots:

[0139] New mapping rules are proposed between MsgA RO and MsgA PO in different symbol / slot types, such as SBFD and non-SBFD symbol / slot types, in order to map preambles in PRACH located in SBFD symbols / slots to MsgA PO located in the non-SBFD symbols, as explained in the embodiment 2.

[0140] This embodiment of the present disclosure proposes the following options for mapping of preambles in PRACH and PUSCH occasion in MsgA.

[0141] Mapping in case 1:

[0142] Case 1 considers a condition where both the PRACH transmission occasion (MsgA RO) and the PUSCH occasion MsgA-PO are configured in SBFD symbols / slots, and / or confined to the usable PRBs of the UL subband in SBFD symbols / slot. In this case, since the time / frequency resources of the MsgA RO and MsgA PO and its associated DMRS are the same, therefore in this case the existing mapping rules can be re-used without enhancement to the existing rules are need for this case.

[0143] Mapping in case 2:

[0144] In case the PRACH transmission occasion (MsgA RO) and PUSCH occasion MsgA PO are configured in SBFD and non-SBFD symbols / slots, respectively, this embodiment of the present disclosure proposes the following alternative options.

[0145] In some embodiments, preambles in the MsgA RACH occasions in the SBFD symbols / slots are mapped to the MsgA PUSCH occasions in non-SBFD symbols / slots, wherein the MsgA PUSCH occasions in the non-SBFD symbols / slots are configured in a same set of UL PRBs that is equal to the UL subband usable PRBs in the SBFD symbols / slots. In some embodiments, preambles in the MsgA RACH occasions in the SBFD symbols / slots are mapped to the MsgA PUSCH occasions in non-SBFD symbols / slots, wherein a number of the MsgA PUSCH occasions in frequency domain and a starting location of a lowest PUSCH occasion in the frequency domain in non-SBFD symbols / slots are configured based on a bandwidth of an initial / active UL BWP. In some embodiments, the MsgA PUSCH occasions in the non-SBFD symbols / slots, which are in a same set of UL PRBs as the UL subband usable PRBs in the SBFD symbols / slots, are valid. In some embodiments, preambles in valid MsgA RACH occasions in the SBFD symbols / slots are mapped to the MsgA PUSCH occasions with associated DMRS symbols / slots in the non-SBFD symbols / slots in different PRB sets. In some embodiments, the preambles in the valid MsgA RACH occasions in the SBFD symbols / slots are mapped to the MsgA PUSCH occasions with the associated DMRS symbols / slots in the non-SBFD symbols / slots in the different PRB sets through a one-to-many mapping. In some embodiments, the preambles in a single valid MsgA RACH occasion are mapped to more than one valid MsgA PUSCH occasion and the associated DMRS symbols.

[0146] In details, some examples are illustrated in the followings.

[0147] Alternative Option 1:

[0148] FIG. 15 is a schematic diagram illustrating a MsgA PO in non-SBFD symbols / slots confined to frequency resources similar to UL subband usable PRBs according to an embodiment of the present disclosure. The configuration of MsgA PUSCH occasion in non-SBFD symbols / slots are confined to the PRBs of the UL subband usable PRBs in SBFD symbols / slots as shown in FIG. 15. In this way, the existing mapping rules can be re-used to map the PRACH preambles in PRACH occasion in SBFD symbols / slots to the PUSCH occasion in non-SBFD symbols.

[0149] Alternative Option 2:

[0150] The PUSCH occasion is configured according to the bandwidth of the initial / active UL BWP. In other words, the number of MsgA PUSCH occasion FDMed and starting point of the lowest PO in frequency domain is configured according to the bandwidth of the initial / active UL BWP.

[0151] However, in this option, new validity rules can be defined for the MsgA PUSCH occasion in non-SBFD symbols / slots which is associated to the MsgA RO in SBFD symbols. FIG. 16 is a schematic diagram illustrating an invalid / valid MsgA PO in non-SBFD symbols / slots associated to MsgA RO in SBFD symbols / slots according to an embodiment of the present disclosure. For instance, the MsgA POs in non-SBFD symbols / slots which lies within the same set of PRBs with its associated MsgA RO (e.g. within the same set of UL subband usable PRBs) can be considered as valid as illustrated in FIG. 16. In this way, the MsgA POs in non-SBFD symbols / slots which lies within the PRBs which is not the same with its associated MsgA ROs (e.g. outside the same set of UL subband usable PRBs) is considered as invalid. In this way, the existing specification mapping rules can be re-used to map MsgA ROs to MsgA POs.

[0152] Alternative Option 3:

[0153] FIG. 17 is a schematic diagram illustrating one-to-many mapping between MsgA RO in SBFD symbols / slots and MsgA PO in non-SBFD symbols / slots according to an embodiment of the present disclosure. In this option, the MsgA PRACH occasion (RO) configured in SBFD symbols / slots can be mapped to the msg-A PUSCH occasion (PO) in non-SBFD with its associated DMRS symbols / slots in different RB set as shown in FIG. 17.

[0154] However, this embodiment proposes the following new rules for mapping between msg-A RO in SBFD symbols / slots and MsgA PO in non-SBFD symbols / slots on top of the existing mapping rules available in the specification. For instance, each consecutive number of Npreamble preamble indexes from valid PRACH occasions in SBFD symbols / slots are mapped to a valid PUSCH occasion and the associated DMRS resource in non-SBFD symbols / slots with the following new proposed rules. The preambles in a valid PRACH occasions in SBFD symbols / slots can be mapped to MsgA PUSCH occasion with its associated DMRS in non-SBFD symbols / slots in different PRB set as shown in FIG. 17.

[0155] One-to-many mapping: The preambles indexes from a single valid PRACH occasions in SBFD symbols / slots can be mapped to more than one PUSCH occasion and the associated DMRS resource in non-SBFD symbols / slots. For instance, if there are 4 MsgA RO with four preambles configured in SBFD symbols / slots and 8 MsgA POs configured in non-SBFD symbols / slot, the one to many mapping between MsgA RO and PO can be used, where the preambles in one RO in SBFD symbols / slots is mapped to two POs in non-SBFD symbols / slots as illustrated in Table 2. For one-to-many MsgA RO to MsgA POs mapping this embodiment consider the following two motivations.

[0156] Generally, the number of valid MsgA POs in non-SBFD symbols / slots may be more than the valid MsgA ROs in non-SBFD symbols. Therefore, preambles in a single MsgA RACH occasion can be mapped to more than one valid MsgA PUSCH occasion and its associated DMRS. Since the coverage requirement of PUSCH is more than the coverage requirements of RACH, therefore the number of PUSCH configured is more than the number RACH configured. Therefore, preambles in a single MsgA RACH occasion can be mapped to more than one valid MsgA PUSCH occasion and it is associated DMRS.

[0157] Table 2: One-to-many mapping:

[0158] Embodiment 3: Configuration of 2 step RACH in SBFD symbols / slots and non-SBFD symbols / slots:

[0159] Two different configuration options for 2-step RACH are proposed to configure 2-step RACH for SBFD-aware UEs in both SBFD and non-SBFD symbols / slots. A first configuration comprises a single configuration with a single set of parameters such as MsgA RO-FDM, MsgA-FrquencyStart, MsgA-PUSCH, MsgA PO-FDM, MsgA-IntraSlotFrequencyHopping, and / or MsgA-DMRS-Config to configure MsgA RO and MsgA PO in both SBFD and non-SBFD symbols / slots, as explained in Embodiment 3. A second configuration comprises two separate configurations with a separate set of the aforementioned parameters to configure MsgA RO and MsgA PO in SBFD and non-SBFD symbols / slots, as explained in Embodiment 3.

[0160] In some embodiments, the second configuration comprises at least one parameter of MsgA RACH that configures the MsgA RACH in both the SBFD symbols / slots and the non-SBFD symbols / slots and / or at least one parameter of MsgA PUSCH that configures the msgA PUSCH occasion in both the SBFD symbols / slots and the non-SBFD symbols / slots. In some embodiments, the at least one MsgA RACH parameter in the SBFD symbols / slots and the non-SBFD symbols / slots comprises msgA-ROs and / or msgA-RO-FrequencyStart, the msgA-ROs refers to configured time / frequency resources of the MsgA RACH occasion in which the UE transmits preambles of PRACH to the base station, and the msgA-RO-FrequencyStart indicates a lowest resource block of contention based random-access resources in a random-access procedure. In some embodiments, the at least one MsgA PUSCH parameter in the SBFD symbols / slots and the non-SBFD symbols / slots comprises frequencyStartMsgA-PUSCH, nrofMsgA-PO-FDM, msgA-IntraSlotFrequencyHopping, and / or msgA-DMRS-Config, the frequencyStartMsgA-PUSCH refers to an offset of a lowest MsgA PUSCH occasion in frequency domain with respect to a PRB, the nrofMsgA-PO-FDM refers to a number of the MsgA PUSCH occasions in the frequency domain in one time instance, the msgA-IntraSlotFrequencyHopping defines and enables an intra-slot frequency hopping for the MsgA PUSCH occasion, and the msgA-DMRS-Config refers to a DMRS configuration for MsgA PUSCH. In some embodiments, the second configuration comprises at least two configurations, wherein one configuration of the second configuration comprises a separate set of parameters to configure the MsgA RACH occasion and / or the MsgA PUSCH occasion in the SBFD symbols / slots, and another configuration of the second configuration comprises a separate set of parameters to configure the MsgA RACH occasion and / or the MsgA PUSCH occasion in the non-SBFD symbols / slots.

[0161] In details, for examples, in order to support 2 step RACH in SBFD symbols, for SBFD aware UE in RRC connected state or RRC idle / inactive state the msg-A (including the RACH occasion and PUSCH occasion) can be configured in SBFD symbols. However, the msg-A configuration in non-SBFD symbols / slots can be taken into consideration for legacy UEs. The MsgA configured in non-SBFD symbols / slots can be used by the SBFD aware UEs. In this case, in terms of configuration of msg-A in SBFD symbols / slots and in non-SBFD symbols / slots the parameters of MsgA configured in SBFD symbols / slots is different from msg-A configured in non-SBFD symbols / slots (e.g. legacy configuration for MsgA) , therefore the existing legacy configuration of MsgA may not be able to configure the MsgA in both SBFD and non-SBFD symbols. In order to solve the issue of MsgA configuration in SBFD symbols / slots, MsgA configuration in non-SBFD symbols, this embodiment of the present disclosure proposes the following two solutions.

[0162] Method 1: One single 2 step RACH configuration:

[0163] Use one single 2 step RACH configuration (e.g. MsgA-ConfigCommon) including rach-ConfigCommonTwoStepRA and MsgA-PUSCH-Config, where one single RACH configuration for 2 step Random access can configure MsgA RO and MsgA-PUSCH related parameters in SBFD symbols, and MsgA RO and MsgA-PUSCH and its related parameters in non-SBFD symbols. However, using one legacy 2 step RACH configuration may requires the following separate parameter configuration for MsgA RO and MsgA-PUSCH in SBFD symbols. The following parameter may include one or more of the following parameters: Separate RACH parameters in SBFD and non-SBFD symbols / slots, MsgA ROs, MsgA RO-FrequencyStart, separate MsgA-PUSCH parameters in SBFD and non-SBFD symbols / slots, frequencyStartMsgA-PUSCH, nrofMsgA PO-FDM, MsgA-IntraSlotFrequencyHopping, MsgA-DMRS-Config.

[0164] Method 2: Two separate 2 step RACH configurations:

[0165] Other alternative solutions could be, to use two separate configurations. The first configuration includes the legacy 2 step RACH configuration which is used to configure 2-step RACH in non-SBFD symbols, and the second configuration is consist of additional 2 step RACH configuration which is used to configure 2-step RACH in SBFD symbols. In other words, two separate MsgA-ConfigCommon, where the legacy 2-step RACH configuration can configure MsgA and its corresponding msgB time window in non-SBFD symbols, and the additional 2 step RACH configuration can configure MsgA in SBFD symbols / slotsaccording to the usable PRB s in UL subband.

[0166] Solution 2: 4-step RACH enhancement in SBFD symbols / slots:

[0167] FIG. 18A is a flowchart illustrating a wireless communication method of random access using sub-band full duplex (SBFD) symbols / slots, executed by a user equipment (UE) according to an embodiment of the present disclosure. The wireless communication method of SBFD symbols / slots, executed by the UE includes an operation 1801A, receiving, from a base station, a first configuration, wherein the first configuration is related to a SBFD operation configuration in time division duplex (TDD) downlink (DL) or flexible symbols / slots, and comprises an indication of uplink (UL) subbands and DL subbands, and an operation 1802A, receiving, from the base station, a second configuration, wherein the second configuration comprises: a first random access channel (RACH) configuration in SBFD symbols / slots and / or non-SBFD symbols / slots; or a second RACH configuration in the SBFD symbols / slots, and a third RACH configuration in the non-SBFD symbols / slots.  The processor 11 is also configured to perform the wireless communication method of random access using sub-band full duplex (SBFD) symbols / slots, applied to the UE side in the following some embodiments.

[0168] In some embodiments, the wireless communication method further comprises transmitting, to the base station, a message 1 (Msg1) preamble in UL subband usable physical resource blocks (PRBs) in SBFD symbols / slots and / or in non-SBFD UL symbols / slots. In some embodiments, the wireless communication method further comprises receiving, from the base station, a message 2 (Msg2) in DL subband PRBs and / or DL symbols. In some embodiments, the wireless communication method further comprises transmitting, to the base station, a message 3 (Msg3) in UL subband physical resource blocks (PRBs) and / or UL symbols. In some embodiments, the wireless communication method further comprises receiving, from the base station, a message 4 (Msg4) in DL subband PRBs and / or DL symbols.

[0169] FIG. 18B is a flowchart illustrating a wireless communication method of random access using sub-band full duplex (SBFD) symbols / slots, executed by a base station according to an embodiment of the present disclosure. The wireless communication method of SBFD symbols / slots, executed by the base station includes an operation 1801B, transmitting, to a user equipment (UE) , a first configuration, wherein the first configuration is related to a SBFD operation configuration in time division duplex (TDD) downlink (DL) or flexible symbols / slots, and comprises an indication of uplink (UL) subbands and DL subbands, and an operation 1802B, transmitting, to the UE, a second configuration, wherein the second configuration comprises: a first random access channel (RACH) configuration in SBFD symbols / slots and / or non-SBFD symbols / slots; or a second RACH configuration in the SBFD symbols / slots, and a third RACH configuration in the non-SBFD symbols / slots. The processor 21 is also configured to perform the wireless communication method of random access using sub-band full duplex (SBFD) symbols / slots, applied to the base station side in the following some embodiments.

[0170] In some embodiments, the wireless communication method further comprises receiving, from the UE, a message 1 (Msg1) preamble in UL subband usable physical resource blocks (PRBs) in SBFD symbols / slots and / or in non-SBFD UL symbols / slots. In some embodiments, the wireless communication method further comprises transmitting, to the UE, a message 2 (Msg2) in DL subband PRBs and / or DL symbols. In some embodiments, the wireless communication method further comprises receiving, from the UE, a message 3 (Msg3) in UL subband physical resource blocks (PRBs) and / or UL symbols. In some embodiments, the wireless communication method further comprises transmitting, to the UE, a message 4 (Msg4) in DL subband PRBs and / or DL symbols.

[0171] For examples, in details, FIG. 18C is a flowchart illustrating a procedure of 4 step RACH in SBFD symbols / slots and / or non-SBFD symbols / slots according to an embodiment of the present disclosure. In 3GPP RAN1#117 meeting, two options for RACH configurations (option 1 and option 2) were agreed. Option 1 is using one single RACH configuration and the existing parameters of the single RACH configuration, to configure RACH occasion of 4-step RACH in both SBFD and non-SBFD symbols. Option 2 is using two separate RACH configurations, including one legacy RACH configuration to configure RACH in legacy non-SBFD symbols / slots and one additional RACH configuration to configure RACH in SBFD symbols. Some examples of the present disclosure discuss the configuration of the above option1 and option2 to the UEs in RRC connected states and / or RRC idle / inactive states, and proposes several enhancements to the RACH configuration  option 1 and RACH configuration option 2. In order to configure 4-step RACH in SBFD and non-SBFD symbols / slots for SBFD aware UE in RRC connected and / or RRC idle / inactive state, this disclosure assume that SBFD operation within TDD DL / Flexible symbols / slots are already configured to the UEs in RRC connected and / or RRC idle / inactive state using RRC signaling or SIB1 / SIBx signaling. In addition, the period of the SBFD operation in time domain is similar to the period of TDD operation, and the SBFD DL / UL subbands are explicitly indicated to the UEs as illustrated in FIG. 18C.

[0172] FIG. 18D is a flowchart illustrating a procedure of using a RACH configuration to UEs in a radio resource control (RRC) connected state or a RRC idle / inactive state according to an embodiment of the present disclosure. The 4-step RACH can be configured with the option either 1 or option 2 in SBFD symbols / slots and / or non-SBFD symbols / slots with the proposed enhancement as illustrated in FIG. 18D. FIG. 18D illustrates that, in some embodiments, the procedure of using the RACH configuration to the UEs in the radio resource control (RRC) connected state or the RRC idle / inactive state includes an operation 1801D, performing, by the base station, a configuration of the SBFD operation within TDD DL or flexible symbols / slots to the UEs in RRC connected state and / or idle / inactive state, wherein the period / periodicity of SBFD operation is similar to the TDD operation and the configuration includes the explicit indication of an uplink (UL) and DL subbands, and an operation 1802D, configuring by the base station, a configuration of RACH configuration to the UEs in RRC connected and / or idle / inactive state via RRC signaling or SIB1 / SIBx, wherein the configuration includes single legacy RACH configuration with enhancement to configure RACH in SBFD and / or non-SBFD symbols / slots, and / or legacy RACH configuration to configure RACH in non-SBFD symbols and additional RACH configuration to configure RACH in SBFD symbols.

[0173] The key innovation points associated with the configuration of 4-step RACH for SBFD aware UE in SBFD symbols / slots and / or non-SBFD symbols / slots as shown in FIG. 18D, are briefly summarized below with the details given in the embodiments.

[0174] Embodiment 4: 4 Step RACH configuration in RRC connected state UEs (option 1 and options 2) :

[0175] Enhancement and methods are proposed for a single configuration that can be used to configure the RACH occasion (in 4-step RACH) in both SBFD and non-SBFD. This enhancement focuses on how to use a single set of frequency domain parameters, such as msg1-RO and msg1-FrequencyStart, to configure ROs in both SBFD and non-SBFD symbols. In addition, time domain parameter enhancements focus on introducing new columns to existing specification tables [3.3.2-2, 6.3.3.2-3 for FR1, and 6.3.3.2-4 for FR2 in TS 38.211] , where a single PRACH configuration index in the aforementioned tables can indicate the time domain parameters to the SBFD-aware UEs for the ROs configured in SBFD and non-SBFD symbols / slots and slots. For details, refer to Embodiment 4.

[0176] Enhancement in RACH Configuration option 1:

[0177] In some embodiments, one parameter in the first RACH configuration is used for RACH occasions in frequency domain in both the SBFD symbols / slots and the non-SBFD symbols / slots, the RACH occasions in the SBFD symbols / slots that cross a boundary of the UL sub-band usable PRBs and fully or partially overlap with DL subband usable PRBs are invalid, and the RACH occasions in the SBFD symbols / slots in UL subband usable PRBs are valid. In some embodiments, one parameter in the first RACH configuration is used for RACH  occasions in frequency domain in both the SBFD symbols / slots and the non-SBFD symbols / slots, a number of Msg1 RACH occasions in the frequency domain in both the SBFD symbols / slots and the non-SBFD symbols / slots is configured based on a bandwidth of UL subband usable PRBs. In some embodiments, a single frequency domain parameter in the first RACH configuration is used for RACH occasions in both the SBFD symbols / slots and the non-SBFD symbols / slots, a maximum number of the RACH occasions in the frequency domain is configured in UL subband usable PRBs. In some embodiments, the RACH occasions in the frequency domain are based on a DL, UL, DL (DUD) subband pattern and / or a DL, UL (DU) subband pattern in the frequency domain, and the maximum number of the RACH occasions in the frequency domain in the SBFD symbols / slots is selected from 1, 2, or 4.

[0178] In some embodiments, the parameter in the first RACH configuration is configured based on a starting location of an initial / active DL / UL bandwidth part (BWP) or a starting PRB of the UL subband usable PRBs. In some embodiments, the parameter in the first RACH configuration comprises at least one frequency domain parameter, the at least one frequency domain parameter comprises Msg1-FrequencyStart, and the Msg1-FrequencyStart defines a starting location of a lowest RACH occasion in both the SBFD symbols / slots and the non-SBFD symbols / slots. In some embodiments, an offset in terms of PRBs is configured based on a PRB offset between the UL subband usable PRB and a starting location of an initial / active DL / UL BWP, and the offset is used to identify a starting location of a lowest RACH occasion in the frequency domain in the SBFD symbols / slots. In some embodiments, the one frequency domain parameter in the first RACH configuration comprises a Msg1-FrequencyStart, the first Msg1-FrequencyStart defines a starting location of a lowest RACH occasion in both the SBFD symbols / slots and the non-SBFD symbols / slot, based on a starting PRB of the UL subband.

[0179] In some embodiments, the one frequency domain parameter in the first RACH configuration comprises a Msg1-FrequencyStart, wherein the Msg1-FrequencyStart defines a starting location of a lowest RACH occasion in both the SBFD symbols / slots and the non-SBFD symbols / slots, based on a starting PRB of an initial / active UL BWP. In some embodiments, the wireless communication method further includes using a single physical random access channel (PRACH) configuration index to indicate time domain parameters of RACH configured in both the SBFD symbols / slots and / or the non-SBFD symbols / slots, wherein the single PRACH configuration index is used to indicate a time location in time instances where an SBFD operation is configured, and a time location in time instances where there is no SBFD operation. In some embodiments, a subframe / slot where the RACH occasion is located in the SBFD symbols / slot is configured through a UE dedicated signaling or a cell specific signaling.

[0180] In option 1, as given in prior art that only one RACH configuration can configure RACH in SBFD symbols. This implies that only one RACH configuration can be used to configure ROs to the connected state UEs in SBFD symbols / slots and non-SBFD symbols. However, the maximum limit of the number of ROs FDMed (msg1-FDM) in SBFD symbols, and the offset of the lowest RO (msg1-FrequencyStart) in SBFD symbols / slots is different from the ROs in non-SBFD symbols / slots. In the same way, a similar configuration of RACH occasion in SBFD and non-SBFD symbols / slots could lead to the configuration of RACH in incorrect frequency and / or time resources where the RACH in SBFD symbols / slots is not configured in UL sub-band’s usable PRBs. Therefore, this embodiment of the present disclosure proposes the enhancement to the following  parameters which can be used to configure RACH in SBFD symbols / slots to connected state UEs using one configuration.

[0181] Regarding enhancement in frequency domain parameters, in RACH configuration option 1, where one configuration is used to configure RACH in SBFD and non-SBFD symbols. Since the available PRBs in non-SBFD UL symbols / slots is different from the UL subband usable PRBs in SBFD symbols, the maximum limit of the ROs FDMed in SBFD symbols / slots and starting location of the lowest RO in frequency domain can be enhanced as given below.

[0182] Regarding, Msg1-FDM, when using one RACH configuration to configure RACH in both SBFD and non-SBFD symbols, the maximum limit RACH occasions multiplex in frequency domain i.e. Msg1-FDM may crosses the boundary of the UL subband usable PRBs in SBFD symbols. In order solve this issue in one RACH configuration, this embodiment of the present disclosure propose the following solution.

[0183] Alternative method 1:

[0184] FIG. 19 is a schematic diagram illustrating one RACH configuration configure similar a number of ROs in SBFD symbols / slots and non-SBFD symbols / slots according to an embodiment of the present disclosure. FIG. 20 is a schematic diagram illustrating one RACH configuration configure similar number of ROs in SBFD symbols / slots and non-SBFD symbols / slots according to an embodiment of the present disclosure. In this solution, only one parameter (msg1-FDM) in RACH configuration can be used to FDMed ROs in both SBFD and non-SBFD symbols. In case, the ROs in SBFD symbols / slots crosses the crosses the boundary of the UL sub-band’s usable PRBs and overlapped fully or partially with the DL subbands PRBs can be considered as invalid and the ROs in SBFD symbols / slots which lies within the UL subband usable PRBs can be considered as valid ROs. For instance, in one RACH configuration there is only one parameter of msg1-FDM which FDMed 8 ROs in both SBFD symbols / slots with configured DUD subband pattern and non-SBFD symbols / slots as illustrated in FIG. 19 and FIG. 20. In FIG. 19 the ROs {RO#5, RO#6, RO#7, and RO#8} in SBFD symbols / slots lies within the bandwidth of the UL subband usable PRBs, therefore these 4 ROs can be considered as valid ROs and the other ROs {RO#1, RO#2, RO#3, and RO#4} which lies outside of the UL subband usable PRBs can be considered as invalid ROs. Similarly, in FIG. 20 the ROs {RO#1, RO#2, RO#3, and RO#4} in SBFD symbols / slots lies within the bandwidth of the UL subband usable PRBs, therefore these 4 ROs can be considered as valid ROs and the ROs {RO#5, RO#6, RO#7, and RO#8} can be considered as invalid ROs.

[0185] Alternative method 2:

[0186] FIG. 21 is a schematic diagram illustrating message 1 (Msg1) ROs confined to usable physical resource blocks (PRBs) of an UL subband according to an embodiment of the present disclosure. In this solution, only one parameter (msg1-FDM) in RACH configuration can be used to FDMed ROs in both SBFD and non-SBFD symbols. However, the number of msg1 ROs FDMed in both SBFD and non-SBFD symbols / slots can be configured according to the bandwidth of the UL subband usable PRBs. In other words, the msg1 ROs configured in non-SBFD symbols / slots can be confined to a set of PRBs which is equivalents to the UL subband usable PRBs in SBFD symbol / slot as illustrated in FIG. 21 21. In this way, the msg1 ROs configured in both  SBFD and non-SBFD symbols / slots can use only one parameter in a configuration. However, this alternative solution will impact the ROs configured for the legacy UE and it may trigger frequency resource wasting.

[0187] Alternative method 3:

[0188] Pre-configured the maximum number of ROs which can be FDMed in UL subband usable PRBs. The pre-configured ROs FMD can be according to the DUD and DU subband pattern in frequency domain, where the maximum limit of msg1-FDM in SBFD symbols / slots can be {1, 2, and 4} .

[0189] Regarding a parameter, Msg1-FrequencyStart, since the starting frequency location of the lowest RO in SBFD symbols / slots is different from the non-SBFD symbols, therefore a new offset of the lowest RO in frequency domain with respect to starting PRB of the UL subband usable PRBs (msg1-FrequencyStart) can be used to place the RACH occasion within the bandwidth of the UL subband usable PRBs. Since in option 1, there is only one configuration and a single Msg1-FrequencyStart for the ROs in SBFD and non-SBFD symbols / slots, the following alternative solutions can be used.

[0190] Alternative method 1:

[0191] FIG. 22 is a schematic diagram illustrating one Msg1-FrequencyStart for ROs in SBFD symbols / slots and non-SBFD symbols / slots with respect to an initial / active UL / DL BWP. FIG. 23 is a schematic diagram illustrating one Msg1-FrequencyStart for ROs in SBFD symbols / slots and non-SBFD symbols / slots with respect to UL subband usable PRBs according to an embodiment of the present disclosure. In case, DUD subband pattern is configured in SBFD symbols / slots, the starting location of the lowest RO in SBFD symbols / slots in frequency domain is not the similar as the starting location of the lowest ROs in non-SBFD symbols. Since, only one msg1-FrequencyStart is used in one RACH configuration to define the starting location of the lowest RO in both SBFD and non-SBFD symbols. Therefore, the msg1-FrequencyStart can be configured according to the starting location of the initial / active DL / UL BWP or according to starting PRB of the UL subband usable PRBs as illustrated in FIG. 22 and FIG. 23. In this case, in SBFD symbols / slots the ROs which lies within the UL subband usable PRB s can be considered as valid ROs and the ROs which lies outside of UL subband usable PRBs can be considered as invalid ROs.

[0192] For instance, as illustrated in FIG. 22, the starting location of the lowest RO in both SBFD and non-SBFD symbols / slots is according to the starting PRB of the initial / active DL / UL BWP. In this case, in SBFD symbols / slots the ROs outside the UL subband usable PRBs are considered as invalid ROs, and the ROs inside the usable PRBs are considered as valid ROs. In the same way, as illustrated in figure 23, the starting location of the lowest RO in both SBFD and non-SBFD symbols / slots is according to the starting PRB of the UL subband usable PRB. In this case, in SBFD symbols / slots the ROs outside the UL subband usable PRBs are considered as invalid ROs, and the ROs inside the UL subband usable PRBs are considered as valid ROs.

[0193] Alternative method 2:

[0194] In this solution, this embodiment of the present disclosure proposes to configure an offset in term of PRBs through higher layer RRC signaling or through SIB1 / SIBx signaling to the SBFD aware UEs. This offset is visible to the SBFD aware UEs only it can be used to identify the starting location of the lowest RO in frequency domain in the SBFD symbols / slots. In addition, the offset in terms of PRBs can be configured according the PRB offset between the UL subbands usable PRB and the starting location of the initial / active  DL / UL BWP as illustrated in FIG. 24. The lowest RO in SBFD symbols / slots can be started from the msg1FrequencyStart and PRB offset in frequency domain. For. For instance, in DUD subband pattern, the SBFD aware UEs can consider the msg1-FrequencyStart+RBoffset to transmit msg1 in a valid RO as illustrated in FIG. 24.

[0195] Alternative method 3:

[0196] An additional msg1-FrequencyStart can be configured in one RACH-ConfigCommon, the additional msg1-FrequencyStart can be used as a starting location of the lowest ROs in SBFD symbols, the legacy msg1-FrequencyStart can be used as a starting location of a lowest RACH occasion in both the SBFD symbols / slots and the non-SBFD symbols / slot. In this case, the RACH-ConfigCommon will contains two msg1-FrequencyStart, where the additional msg1-FrequencyStart is associated to the starting location of the lowest RO in SBFD symbols.

[0197] Regarding time domain parameters, in time domain, the exact location of ROs and the duration of ROs configured to the UEs is generally indicated to the UEs through PRACH Configuration index. Each PRACH Configuration index is associated to time domain parameters as given in tables [6.3.3.2-2 for FR1, and 6.3.3.2-3 for FR2, TS 38.211] . In case of option 1 (e.g. only one RACH configuration is used to configure RACH occasion in SBFD and / or non-SBFD symbols) , a single PRACH configuration index can indicate the time domain parameters of the ROs configured in SBFD and non-SBFD symbols. However, in current specification the PRACH configuration index, can only indicate RACH location in time domain such as frames, slots, symbols / slots which are generally configured as UL frame / slot / symbols. In order to use, one PRACH configuration index, to indicate the time domain parameters of RACH configured in SBFD and non-SBFD symbols, this embodiment of the present disclosure propose the following two alternatives solutions.

[0198] Alternative 1:

[0199] In order to used one PRACH configuration index to indicate the time domain parameters to the UEs which is configured in SBFD symbols / slots and non-SBFD symbols, this embodiment introduces new column to the existing tables [6.3.3.2-2, and 6.3.3.2-3 for FR1, and 6.3.3.2-4 for FR2 in TS 38.211] in order to indicate the sub-frame / slot where the RACH is configured in SBFD symbols. This new introduced column can only be used for SBFD aware UE, and it can indicate only those sub-frames / slots / symbols / slots where SBFD is configured (i.e. DUD, DU, UD subbands are configured) . In this way, the indication of only one PRACH configuration index, can indicate time location (such as the sub-frame, number of slots in sub-frame, starting symbol, number of PRACH occasion) in time instances where SBFD operation (UL symbols / slot) is configured, and the time instances where there is no SBFD operation (i.e. UL sub-frame / slot / symbol) . An illustration example of using a single PRACH configuration index to indicate the time domain parameters of RACH configured in SBFD symbols / slots and non-SBFD symbols / slots is shown in Table 3.

[0200] Table 1: Random access configurations for FR1 and unpaired spectrum in SBFD duration:

[0201] Alternative 2:

[0202] Explicitly configure the sub-frames / slots to the SBFD aware UEs through higher layers RRC signaling where the RACH is configured in SBFD symbols / slots. For instance, the subframe / slot where RACH is located in SBFD symbols / slots can be configured through UE dedicated signaling, or cell specific signaling. In this way, the SBFD aware UE can use the existing PRACH configuration index to derive the other time domain parameters configured for RACH configured in SBFD symbols, such the preamble format, the duration of RACH in terms of symbols, and the exact sub-frame / slot where RACH is configured is explicitly indicated through UE dedicated or Cell specific signaling.

[0203] Enhancement in RACH Configuration option 2:

[0204] In some embodiments, the second configuration comprises the second RACH configuration in the SBFD symbols / slots and the third RACH configuration in the non-SBFD symbols / slots, and the second RACH configuration in the SBFD symbols / slots comprises at least one frequency domain parameter and / or at least one time domain parameter. In some embodiments, the at least one frequency domain parameter and / or the at least one time domain parameter is based on a bandwidth of UL subband usable PRBs. In some embodiments, the at least one frequency domain parameter comprises msg1-FDM and / or msg1-FrequencyStart, the msg1-FDM refers to a maximum number of Msg1 RACH occasions in the frequency domain in the SBFD symbols / slots, and the msg1-FrequencyStart refers to a starting location of a lowest RACH occasion in both the SBFD symbols / slots and the non-SBFD symbols / slot. In some embodiments, the second RACH configuration in the SBFD symbols / slots comprises a PRACH configuration index used to indicate the at least one time domain parameter in a pre-defined table for PRACH configured in the SBFD symbols / slot.

[0205] In some embodiments, the at least one time domain parameter comprises at least one of following parameters: a preamble format, which is used for random access in the SBFD symbols / slots; a frame number / sub-frame number, which contains a SBFD operation or the SBFD symbols / slots; a starting symbol within a slot, which is configured based on a starting duration of the SBFD operation within the slot; a number of PRACH slots within a sub-frame, which is based on a number or duration of the SBFD operation within the sub-frame and is configured based on a SBFD period in time domain; a number of time-domain PRACH occasion within a PRACH slot; a PRACH duration. In some embodiments, the second configuration is suitable for the UE in a radio resource control (RRC) connected state and / or the UE in a RRC idle / inactive state. In some embodiments, the second configuration is configured for the UE in a RRC idle / inactive state through a system information. In some embodiments, the system information comprises a system information block 1 (SIB1) or a system information block x (SIBx) .

[0206] In this option, as mentioned in prior art, two separate RACH configurations can be used, where one legacy RACH configuration to configure RACH in non-SBFD symbols / slots and one additional configuration which configure the RACH configuration in SBFD symbols. The additional configuration which is used to configure RACH in SBFD symbols / slots can include, the frequency domain parameters such as msg1-FDM, msg1-FrequencyStart in frequency domain according to the bandwidth of the UL subband usable PRBs.

[0207] Similarly, the additional configuration may include time domain parameters as given in the following two alternatives.

[0208] Alternative 1: The new additional RACH configuration can include, the PRACH configuration index which indicate the time domain parameters in the existing specification tables for PRACH configured in SBFD symbols.

[0209] Alternative 2: The new additional RACH configuration can include the explicit configuration of time domain parameters as given below.

[0210] Preamble format: Since there is no new preamble format for random access in SBFD symbols / slots therefore the existing specification format can be indicated.

[0211] Frame number / sub-frame numbers: This parameter is confined to those frame / subframe numbers which contains SBFD operation or SBFD symbols / slots.

[0212] Starting symbol / slot within a slot: This parameter can be configured according to the starting duration of SBFD operation within a slot.

[0213] Number of PRACH slots within a sub-frame: This parameter depends on number or duration of SBFD operation within a sub-frame, and it can be configured according to SBFD period in time domain.

[0214] Number of time-domain PRACH occasion within a PRACH slot.

[0215] PRACH duration (in symbols) .

[0216] Embodiment5: 4 Step RACH configuration in RRC idle / inactive state UEs:

[0217] For SBFD-aware UEs in idle / inactive states, two options of 4-step RACH configuration are proposed. The first configuration option uses a single RACH configuration in SIB1 / SIBx with a single set of parameters such as msg1-RO, msg1-FrequencyStart, and / or PRACH configuration index to configuration RACH occasion to SBFD aware UEs in both SBFD symbols / slots and non-SBFD symbols / slots. The second configuration option proposes two separate configurations with separate sets of frequency domain and time domain parameters to configure RACH occasions for the SBFD-aware UEs in SFBD symbols / slots and / or non-SBFD symbols / slots and / or slots. For details, refer to Embodiment #5 and its subsection.

[0218] Note: For idle / inactive states, similar solutions of 4 steps are re-used only the SIB1 / SIBx signaling are used to configure msg1 RACH occasions including frequency domain and time domain parameters.

[0219] This embodiment of the present disclosure proposes to use the similar RACH configuration approaches to configure RACH in SBFD and non-SBFD symbols / slots for idle / inactive state as used for RACH configured for in SBFD and / or non-SBFD symbols / slots for RRC connected state UEs. In other words, this embodiment of the present disclosure proposes the following two options to configure RACH in SBFD and non-SBFD symbols / slots to the UEs in idle / inactive state.

[0220] Option 1: Use a single RACH configuration to configure the time / frequency resources and other parameters of RACH occasion in SBFD and non-SBFD symbols to the SBFD aware UEs in idle / inactive state. Since the UE is in idle / inactive state, therefore this single RACH configuration e.g. RACHconfigCommon is configured to the UE via SIB1 / SIB-x.

[0221] In some embodiments, one parameter in the first RACH configuration is used for RACH occasions in frequency domain in both the SBFD symbols / slots and the non-SBFD symbols / slots, the RACH occasions in the SBFD symbols / slots that cross a boundary of the UL sub-band usable PRBs and fully or partially overlap with DL subband usable PRBs are invalid, and the RACH occasions in the SBFD symbols / slots in UL  subband usable PRBs are valid.

[0222] In some embodiments, the parameter in the first RACH configuration is configured based on a starting location of an initial / active DL / UL bandwidth part (BWP) or a starting PRB of the UL subband usable PRBs.

[0223] In some embodiments, the one frequency domain parameter in the first RACH configuration comprises a Msg1-FrequencyStart, wherein the Msg1-FrequencyStart defines a starting location of a lowest RACH occasion in both the SBFD symbols / slots and the non-SBFD symbols / slots, based on a starting PRB of an initial / active UL BWP.

[0224] Option 2: Use two RACH configuration to configure the time / frequency resources and other parameter of the RACH occasion in SBFD and non-SBFD symbols / slots to SBFD aware UE in the idle / inactive state. In this option, one RACH configuration is a legacy RACH configuration which is used to configure the RACH occasion in non-SBFD symbols / slots legacy symbols / slots. In addition, there is a separate additional RACH configuration which is used to configure the time / frequency resources and other parameters of RACH occasion in the SBFD symbols. Furthermore, the legacy RACH configuration and the additional RACH configuration can be configured to the UEs in idle / inactive state through SIB1 / SIBx.

[0225] Enhancement in one RACH Configuration for idle / inactive state UEs:

[0226] Similar to the connected state, using only one RACH configuration to configure RACH in SBFD and non-SBFD symbols / could lead to the configuration of RACH in frequency and / or time resources where the UL subband usable PRBs are not available. Therefore, this embodiment of the present disclosure proposes the enhancement to the following parameters which can be used to configure RACH in SBFD symbols / slots to the idle / inactive state UEs using one RACH configuration.

[0227] Enhancement in Frequency Domain parameters:

[0228] Similar to the connected state UEs, for idle / inactive state UEs the available PRBs in non-SBFD UL symbols / slots is different from the usable PRBs in UL subband in SBFD symbols / slots, therefore the following parameters can be enhanced in option 1 for single RACH configuration.

[0229] Regarding, a parameter, Msg1-FDM, for the maximum limit of the Msg1-FDM in frequency domain the following alternative solution can be used.

[0230] Alternative Solution 1:

[0231] In this solution only one parameter (msg1-FDM) in RACH config common which is configure to the idle / inactive UE through SIB1 / SIBx, can be used to FDMed ROs in both SBFD and non-SBFD symbols. In case, similar to the connected state, the ROs in SBFD symbols / slots in idle / inactive state which crosses the boundary of the UL sub-band’s usable PRBs and overlapped fully or partially with the DL subbands PRBs can be considered as invalid and the ROs in SBFD symbols / slots which lies within the UL subband usable PRBs can be considered as valid ROs as illustrated in figure 19, and figure 20 above.

[0232] Alternative Solution 2:

[0233] Include a new additional maximum limit of the ROs FDMed (e.g. msg1-FDM) for the ROs configured in SBFD symbols / slotsUL subband usable PRBs. The additional msg1-FDM can be indicated to the idle / inactive state UEs through SIB1 / SIBx.

[0234] Regarding, a parameter, Msg1-FDM, Msg1-FrequencyStart, Similar to connected state UEs, for idle / inactive state UEs in RACH configuration option 1, only one RACH Msg1-FrequencyStart is used in SIB1 / SIBx to configure the starting location of the lowest ROs in both SBFD and non-SBFD symbols, which could lead to the starting location of the lowest RO in SBFD symbols / slots in DL subband. Therefore, the following alternative solutions can be used to solve this issue.

[0235] Alternative Solution 1:

[0236] Similar to the RRC connected states, for SBFD aware UEs in idle / inactive state one parameter of (msg1-FrequencyStart) in RACH configuration can define the starting location of the lowest ROs in both SBFD and non-SBFD symbols / slots. The signaling used for this configuration are SIB1 / SIBx. The msg1-FrequencyStart can be considered according to the starting location of the initial / active DL / UL BWP or according to starting PRB of the UL subband usable PRBs as illustrated in Figure 22 and Figure 23 above. In this case, in SBFD symbols / slots the ROs which lies within the UL subband usable PRBs can be considered as valid ROs and the ROs which lies outside of UL subband usable PRBs can be considered as invalid ROs.

[0237] Alternative Solution 2:

[0238] In this solution, similar to defining the starting location of the lowest RO in SBFD symbols / slots for RRC connected state, an offset in term of PRBs can be configured in SIB1 / SIBx signaling to the SBFD aware UEs in idle / inactive state. This offset is visible to the SBFD aware UEs only, and it can be used to identify the starting location of the lowest RO in frequency domain in the SBFD symbols / slots. In addition, the offset in terms of PRBs can be configured according the PRB offset between the UL subbands usable PRB and the starting location of the initial / active DL / UL BWP. The SBFD aware UEs can use the PRB offset +ms1-FrequencyStart to identify the exact location of the lowest msg1 RO in SBFD symbols / slots in frequency domain. For instance, in DUD subband pattern, the SBFD aware UEs can consider the msg1-FrequencyStart+RBoffset to transmit msg1 in a valid RO as illustrated in figure 24 above.

[0239] Alternative Solution 3:

[0240] An additional msg1-FrequencyStart can be configured in SIB1 / SIBx, the additional msg1-FrequencyStart can be used as a starting location of the lowest ROs in SBFD symbols, the legacy msg1-FrequencyStart can be used as a starting location of the lowest in non-SBFD symbols, where. In this case, two msg1-FrequencyStart, is configured, where the additional msg1-FrequencyStart is associated to the starting location of the lowest RO in SBFD symbols.

[0241] Regarding time Domain parameters, similar to the RRC connected state, for SBFD aware UEs in RRC idle / inactive state, the exact time domain location of ROs and the duration of ROs configured to the UEs according to the current specification is generally indication to the UEs through PRACH Configuration index. However, the existing PRACH configuration index, indicated the RACH location in time domain such as frames, slots, symbols / slots which are generally configured as UL frame / slot / symbols. In order to use, one PRACH configuration index, to indicate the time domain parameters of RACH configure in SBFD and non-SBFD symbols, this embodiment of the present disclosure propose the following two alternative solutions.

[0242] Alternative 1:

[0243] Similar to the RACH in SBFD operation for RRC connected state, for SBFD aware UEs in RRC idle / inactive state, this embodiment proposes to introduce a new column to the existing tables [6.3.3.2-2, and 6.3.3.2-3 for FR1, and 6.3.3.2-4 for FR2 in TS 38.211] in order to indicate the sub-frame / slot where the RACH is configured in SBFD symbols. This new introduced column can only be used for SBFD aware UE in RRC idle / inactive state, and it can indicate only those sub-frames / slots / symbols / slots where SBFD is configured (i.e. DUD, DU, UD subbands are configured) . In this way, the indication of only one PRACH configuration index, can indicate time domain location (such as the sub-frame, number of slots in sub-frame, starting symbol, number of PRACH occasion etc. ) in time instances where SBFD operation (UL symbols / slot) is configured, and the time instances where there is no SBFD operation (i.e. UL sub-frame / slot / symbol) as shown in table 3 above.

[0244] Alternative 2:

[0245] Explicitly configure the sub-frames / slots to the SBFD aware UEs through higher layers SIB1 / SIBx signaling where the RACH is configured in SBFD symbols / slots. For instance, the sub-frame / slot where RACH is located in SBFD symbols / slots can be configured through UE dedicated signaling, or cell specific signaling.

[0246] Enhancement in RACH Configuration option 2:

[0247] In some embodiments, the second configuration comprises the second RACH configuration in the SBFD symbols / slots and the third RACH configuration in the non-SBFD symbols / slots, and the second RACH configuration in the SBFD symbols / slots comprises at least one frequency domain parameter and / or at least one time domain parameter.

[0248] In some embodiments, the at least one time domain parameter comprises at least one of following parameters: a preamble format, which is used for random access in the SBFD symbols / slots; a frame number / sub-frame number, which contains a SBFD operation or the SBFD symbols / slots; a starting symbol within a slot, which is configured based on a starting duration of the SBFD operation within the slot; a number of PRACH slots within a sub-frame, which is based on a number or duration of the SBFD operation within the sub-frame and is configured based on a SBFD period in time domain; a number of time-domain PRACH occasion within a PRACH slot; a PRACH duration.

[0249] In this option, two separate RACH configurations can be used, where one legacy RACH configuration in SIB1 / SIBx to configure RACH in non-SBFD symbols / slots and one additional configuration is indicated to the idle / inactive UE through SIB1 / SIBx which configure the RACH configuration in SBFD symbols. The additional configuration which is used to configure RACH in SBFD symbols / slots can include, the frequency domain parameters such as msg1-DFM, msg1-FrequencyStart in frequency domain according to the bandwidth of the UL subband usable PRBs.

[0250] Similarly, the additional configuration in SIB1 / SIBx may include time domain parameters as given in the following two alternatives.

[0251] Alternative 1: The new additional RACH configuration in SIB1 / SIBx can include, the PRACH configuration index which indicate the time domain parameters in the existing specification tables for PRACH configured in SBFD symbols.

[0252] Alternative 2:

[0253] The new additional RACH configuration in SIB1 / SIBx can include the explicit configuration of time domain parameters as given below.

[0254] Preamble format: Since there is no new preamble format for random access in SBFD symbols / slots therefore the existing specification format can be indicated.

[0255] Frame number / sub-frame numbers: This parameter is confined to those frame / subframe numbers which contains SBFD operation or SBFD symbols / slots.

[0256] Starting symbol / slot within a slot: This parameter can be configured according to the starting duration of SBFD operation within a slot.

[0257] Number of PRACH slots within a sub-frame: This parameter depends on number or duration of SBFD operation within a sub-frame, and it can be configured according to SBFD period in time domain.

[0258] Number of time-domain PRACH occasion within a PRACH slot.

[0259] PRACH duration (in symbols) .

[0260] In summary, some embodiments of the present disclosure are related to configure 2-step RACH in SBFD and / or non-SBFD symbols / slots for SBFD aware UEs in RRC connected and / or RRC idle inactive state. The first solution / idea propose several enhancements to the time domain and frequency domain parameters of the existing specification in order to configure MsgA RACH occasion and MsgA PUSCH occasion in the UL subband usable PRBs in SBFD symbols / slots, and / or in non-SBFD symbols. Some embodiments are related to the enhancement in the different configuration options for 4-step RACH in SBFD and / or non-SBFD symbols / slots in order to indicate the frequency domain, and time domain resources of the RACH occasion to SBFD aware UEs in RRC connected and / or in RRC idle / inactive state. Some embodiments of the present disclosure discuss random access using SBFD symbols / slots and have one or more of the following advantages: 1.
