Abstract

The present invention provides engineered organisms that can stably express functional polypeptides in the presence of ROS. The present invention also provides engineered organisms that can stably express nitrogenase. Also provided are methods to generate engineered organisms that can stably express nitrogenase by providing non-native nitrogenase and introducing one or more helper factors that facilitate scavenging of ROS or suppress ROS-generating enzymes
