Description

CROSS-REFERENCE TO RELATED APPLICATION

[0001] The present application claims priority to, and the benefit of, U.S. Provisional Application No. 63 / 642,903, which was filed on May 6, 2024, and is incorporated herein by reference in its entirety.FIELD OF THE INVENTION

[0002] The present invention relates generally to the field of infant safety restraints. More specifically, the present invention relates to a child safety belt device that restrains a child while seated securing the upper body and / or midsection of the child while securing them to the seat. Accordingly, the present disclosure makes specific reference thereto. Nonetheless, it is to be appreciated that aspects of the present invention are also equally applicable to other like applications, devices, and methods of manufacture.BACKGROUND

[0003] Most seat straps that are designed to secure children in their seats primarily focus on restraining them at the hip level. This method of securing, while effective in preventing lateral movements, does not adequately prevent children from falling forward or tipping over. As such, the upper body and midsection remain relatively unrestricted, which can lead to potential injuries or accidents, particularly if the child leans too far forward or the seat is subjected to sudden movements.

[0004] Therefore, there exists a long-felt need in the art for an improved child restraint device. There also exists a long-felt need in the art for a child safety belt device. More specifically, there exists a long-felt need in the art for a child safety belt device that better restrains the midsection and upper body of a child. In addition, there exists a long-felt need in the art for a child safety belt device that better restrains the midsection and upper body of a child while the child is seated.

[0005] The subject matter disclosed and claimed herein, in one embodiment thereof, comprises a child safety restraint device. The device is designed to secure infants or children to a seating structure, such as, but not limited to, a chair or highchair. The device comprises a body made from a fabric material that may also have internal padding secured by reinforced stitches. The body covers the midsection of the infant during use. The device also includes a strap equipped with fasteners that facilitate securing the device around an infant and an object the infant is sitting on to prevent falls. Additionally, the body features a pocket with an eyelet for attaching items like pacifiers, and the pocket allows the entire device to be folded for convenient storage and transport.

[0006] In this manner, the child safety restraint device of the present invention accomplishes all the foregoing objectives and provides an improved child restraint device. More specifically, the device better restrains the midsection and upper body of a child while the child is seated. Therefore, the device better stops a child from falling forward or tipping over than existing child restraint straps.SUMMARY

[0007] The following presents a simplified summary to provide a basic understanding of some aspects of the disclosed innovation. This summary is not an extensive overview, and it is not intended to identify key / critical elements or to delineate the scope thereof. First, a device is provided comprised of a body comprised of an opening and a strap positioned through the opening, the strap comprised of a first end comprised of a first fastener and a second end comprised of a second fastener. Then, the body can be placed around the midsection / upper body of a child who may be seated on an object such as, but not limited to, a person's lap, a chair, a highchair, a swing, etc. Next, both ends of the strap can be placed around the rear of the person, chair, highchair, swing, etc., and fastened to each other such that the body compresses the child towards the person, chair, highchair, swing, etc., to secure the child and prevent the child from falling or tipping over.

[0012] Accordingly, the child safety restraint device of the present invention is particularly advantageous as it provides an improved child restraint device. More specifically, the device better restrains the midsection and upper body of a child while the child is seated. Therefore, the device better stops a child from falling forward or tipping over than existing child restraint straps. In this manner, the child safety restraint device overcomes the limitations of existing child restraint straps known in the art.
