[0034] Hereinafter, an electrode assembly and a secondary battery according to embodiments of the present disclosure will be described in more detail with reference to the accompanying drawings.

[0035] Figure 1 is an exploded perspective view showing a secondary battery according to a first embodiment of the present disclosure. Figure 2 It is shown Figure 1 A plan view of a portion of a secondary battery. Figure 3 yes Figure 1 Schematic cross-sectional view of an electrode assembly.

[0036] Reference Figure 1 , a secondary battery 10 according to the first embodiment of the present disclosure may include an electrode assembly 100 and a pouch-type (eg, type) cap assembly 300 for accommodating the electrode assembly 100 .

[0037] like Figures 1 to 3 As shown, the electrode assembly 100 may be formed by winding or stacking a stack of a first electrode plate 110, a separator 120, and a second electrode plate 130. Here, the first electrode plate 110 may be a negative electrode, and the second electrode plate 130 may be a positive electrode, but the present disclosure is not limited thereto, and the fact may be the opposite. The electrode assembly 100 may (e.g., generally) be referred to as a jelly roll. In the present disclosure, a winding type (e.g., type) electrode assembly 100 will be described as an example.

[0038] The first electrode plate 110 may be formed by applying a first electrode active material 114 (such as graphite and / or carbon) to a first electrode current collector 112 made of a metal foil (such as copper, copper alloy, nickel, and / or nickel alloy). A first electrode uncoated portion 116 on which the first electrode active material 114 is not applied may be in a partial region of the first electrode current collector 112 (e.g., formed on a partial region of the first electrode current collector 112). A first electrode base tab 118 may be formed on the first electrode uncoated portion 116 in the width direction of the first electrode current collector 112. Because the first electrode uncoated portion 116 is formed at a central portion in the longitudinal direction of the first electrode current collector 112 or at a portion adjacent thereto, the first electrode base tab 118 may be referred to as a central tab. The first electrode base tab 118 extends to the outside of the first electrode current collector 112 (e.g., the first electrode base tab 118 extends to the outside of the first electrode current collector 112). Figure 2 The first electrode base tab 118 provides (e.g., is) a current flow path between the first electrode plate 110 and a terminal of the cap assembly 300 (e.g., a terminal of the secondary battery 10). Since the insulating member 119 is attached to the first electrode base tab 118, a short circuit between the first electrode base tab 118 and the cap assembly 300 may be prevented or substantially prevented.

[0039] like Figures 1 to 3 As shown, the second electrode plate 130 may be formed by applying a second electrode active material 134 (such as a transition metal oxide) to a second electrode collector 132 made of a metal foil (such as aluminum and / or an aluminum alloy). A second electrode uncoated portion 136 on which the second electrode active material 134 is not coated may be in a partial region of the second electrode collector 132 (e.g., formed on a partial region of the second electrode collector 132). A second electrode base tab 138 may be formed on the second electrode uncoated portion 136 in the width direction of the second electrode collector 132. Because the second electrode uncoated portion 136 is formed at a central portion in the longitudinal direction of the second electrode collector 132 or at a portion adjacent thereto, the second electrode base tab 138 may be referred to as a central tab. The second electrode base tab 138 extends to the outside of the second electrode collector 132 ( Figure 2Here, the second electrode base tab 138 is disposed in an area that does not overlap with the first electrode base tab 118. The second electrode base tab 138 provides (e.g., is) a path for current flow between the second electrode plate 130 and a terminal of the cap assembly 300 (e.g., a terminal of the secondary battery 10). Since the insulating member 139 is attached to the second electrode base tab 138, a short circuit between the second electrode base tab 138 and the cap assembly 300 can be prevented or substantially prevented.

[0040] like Figures 1 to 3 As shown, the separator 120 is disposed between the first electrode plate 110 and the second electrode plate 130 to prevent or substantially prevent a short circuit between the first electrode plate 110 and the second electrode plate 130. To this end, the separator 120 may be larger in size than each of the first electrode plate 110 and the second electrode plate 130. In some embodiments, the separator 120 may be made of polyethylene, polypropylene, and / or a composite film of polyethylene and polypropylene, however, the present disclosure is not limited thereto.

[0041] The electrode assembly 100 having the above structure is wound together with the electrolyte and housed in the cap assembly 300, as shown in FIG. Figure 1 shown.

[0042] like Figure 1 As shown, the cover assembly 300 (which is a bag or pocket-type (e.g., type) shell) may be referred to as a laminated external material, a bag, a bag external material, or a bag shell. The cover assembly 300 may be formed by bending a plate-shaped external material so that it faces each other and forming a recess 310 for accommodating the electrode assembly 100 by a process such as pressing and / or stretching. For example, the cover assembly 300 may be formed by bending a plate-shaped external material so that it faces each other to define the recess 310. The sealing portion 330 is formed on the periphery of the recess 310, and the sealing portion 330 is sealed by thermal bonding in a state where the electrode assembly 100 is accommodated in the recess 310.

[0043] Hereinafter, the above main structure of the electrode assembly will be described in more detail, wherein the vertical direction will be represented by Figure 3 The thickness direction of the electrode plate will be defined, the horizontal direction will be defined by the longitudinal direction of the electrode plate, and the vertical direction will be defined by the thickness direction of the electrode plate. Figure 4A The width direction of the electrode plate is defined.

[0044] Figure 4A It is shown Figure 3 A plan view of surface A of the main components of the electrode assembly. Figure 4B It is shown Figure 3 1 is a plan view of a surface B of main components of an electrode assembly (for convenience, the separator 120 between the first electrode plate and the second electrode plate will be omitted).

[0045] like Figures 3 to 4B As shown, the electrode assembly 100 according to an embodiment of the present disclosure may be wound after the separator 120 is disposed between the first electrode plate 110 (which is a negative electrode) and the second electrode plate 130 (which is a positive electrode), as shown in FIG. Figure 1 shown.

[0046] like Figure 3 As shown, the first electrode active material 114 may be applied to both surfaces of the first electrode current collector 112 of the first electrode plate 110, and a first electrode uncoated portion 116 on which the first electrode active material 114 is not applied may be formed on a partial area thereof. The first electrode uncoated portion 116 is formed on both surfaces of the first electrode plate 110 in the same manner, and a first electrode base tab 118 is provided on one of the two surfaces. The first electrode uncoated portion 116 is formed on a portion facing a position of the first electrode base tab 118 to reduce the thickness of a portion on which the first electrode base tab 118 is formed.

[0047] like Figures 3 to 4B As shown, one surface of the first electrode plate 110 facing the second electrode plate 130 is defined as surface A, and the other surface of the first electrode plate 110 on which the first electrode base tab 118 is disposed is defined as surface B. A tab cover tape 140 for covering the first electrode base tab 118 may be attached to surface B of the first electrode uncoated portion 116, and an uncoated portion cover tape 150 for covering the first electrode uncoated portion 116 may be attached to surface A.

[0048] In addition, if Figure 3 As shown, the second electrode active material 134 may be applied to both surfaces of the second electrode current collector 132 of the second electrode plate 130, and a second electrode uncoated portion 136 on which the second electrode active material 134 is not applied may be formed on a partial area thereof. Here, the second electrode uncoated portion 136 may be formed at a position that does not overlap with the first electrode uncoated portion 116. The second electrode uncoated portion 136 is formed on both surfaces of the second electrode plate 130 in the same manner, and a second electrode base tab 138 is provided on one of the two surfaces. The second electrode uncoated portion 136 is formed on a portion facing the position of the second electrode base tab 138 to reduce the thickness of the portion on which the second electrode base tab 138 is formed.

[0049] like Figures 3 to 4BAs shown, one surface of the second electrode plate 130 facing the first electrode plate 110 is defined as surface A, and the other surface of the second electrode plate 130 on which the second electrode base tab 138 is disposed is defined as surface B. A tab cover tape 140 for covering the second electrode base tab 138 may be attached to surface B of the second electrode uncoated portion 136, and an uncoated portion cover tape 150 for covering the second electrode uncoated portion 136 may be attached to surface A.

[0050] In addition, the insulating tape 160 may be additionally attached on the surface A of the second electrode plate 130 at a position corresponding to the position of the first electrode uncoated portion 116. In addition, the insulating tape 160 may be additionally attached on the surface B of the second electrode plate 130 at a position corresponding to the tab cover tape 140 for covering the first electrode base tab 118 of the first electrode plate 110.

[0051] In some embodiments, the tab cover tape 140 for covering the first electrode base tab 118 and the second electrode base tab 138 is an adhesive tape made of an insulating material for protecting and insulating the tabs. The tab cover tape 140 may be made of a material such as polypropylene sulfide (PPS) and / or polyamide (PI) that has strong heat resistance and has little or no deformation such as shrinkage even at high temperatures. The tab cover tape 140 is formed to have a size suitable for (e.g., capable of) fully covering the surface B of the first electrode uncoated portion 116 and the surface B of the second electrode uncoated portion 136.

[0052] The above-mentioned uncoated portion cover tape 150 for covering the surface A of the first electrode uncoated portion 116 and the surface A of the second electrode uncoated portion 136 is also an adhesive tape made of an insulating material. The uncoated portion cover tape 150 may be made of the same or similar material as the tab cover tape 140. The uncoated portion cover tape 150 is formed to have a size suitable for (e.g., capable of) fully covering the surface A of the first electrode uncoated portion 116 and the surface A of the second electrode uncoated portion 136.

[0053] like Figures 3 to 4B As shown, the insulating tape 160 is attached to the second electrode plate 130 and to the surface A facing the first electrode plate 110. In addition, the insulating tape 160 may be attached adjacent to the tab cover tape 140 of the second electrode plate 130. For convenience of description, the insulating tape 160 attached to the surface A is referred to as the first insulating tape 162, and the insulating tape 160 attached to the surface B is referred to as the second insulating tape 164.

[0054] The first insulating tape 162 is formed at a position corresponding to the uncoated portion cover tape 150 of the surface A of the first electrode plate 110 with the separator 120 therebetween. The first insulating tape 162 is formed to have a size suitable for (e.g., capable of) fully covering the uncoated portion cover tape 150 of the first electrode plate 110. That is, the first insulating tape 162 is formed to have a size larger than that of each of the first electrode uncoated portion 116 of the first electrode plate 110 and the uncoated portion cover tape 150.

[0055] When the first insulating tape 162 is not provided, the area of the second electrode plate 130 that may affect (eg, correspond to) the first electrode uncoated portion 116 may have a size (eg, width) of L1 (hereinafter, referred to as area L1, which corresponds to Figure 4A The region L1 may be adjacent to the first electrode uncoated portion 116 and wider than the first electrode uncoated portion 116. When lithium ions are deposited on the region L1, the deposited lithium may be stacked (e.g., may grow into lithium dendrites) on the surface of each of the first electrode uncoated portion 116 and the first electrode active material 114 adjacent thereto, and may cover a size as large as the corresponding region.

[0056] However, according to the above insights and / or reasons, when the first insulating tape 162 is attached, lithium deposition on the portion to which the insulating tape is attached may not occur, and thus the region L1 may be reduced to a region having a smaller size (e.g., width) L2. Therefore, lithium deposition may be significantly reduced, and the separator 120 may be prevented or substantially prevented from being punched (e.g., pierced or penetrated) by a stack of deposited lithium (e.g., lithium dendrites).

[0057] When the electrode assembly 100 is wound, the second insulating tape 164 is formed at a position corresponding to the tab cover tape 140 of the first electrode plate 110 and the separator 120 therebetween (the position is formed by Figure 3 The dashed arrow and Figure 5 ). The second insulating tape 164 is formed to have a size suitable for (e.g., capable of) fully covering the tab cover tape 140 of the first electrode plate 110. That is, the second insulating tape 164 is formed to have a size larger than that of each of the first electrode uncoated portion 116 of the first electrode plate 110 and the tab cover tape 140.

[0058] The second insulating tape 164 can be provided based on the same insights and / or reasons as the first insulating tape 162, thereby significantly reducing lithium deposition and preventing or substantially preventing punching (e.g., puncturing or penetration) of the separator 120 caused by stacking of deposited lithium (e.g., by lithium dendrites).

[0059] Although the attachment position of the second insulating tape 164 when the electrode assembly 100 is wound is described above, this may be applied in the same manner even to a stacked type (eg, type) electrode assembly.

[0060] The second insulating tape having the above structure may be applied with different structures as described below. Hereinafter, for convenience of description, description of the same structure as the first embodiment will be omitted (eg, not repeated), and only different structures will be described.

[0061] Figure 5 is a schematic cross-sectional view of an electrode assembly according to a second embodiment of the present disclosure. Fig. 6A It is shown Figure 5 A plan view of surface A of the main components of the electrode assembly. Figure 6B It is shown Figure 5 A plan view of surface B of the main components of the electrode assembly.

[0062] like Figures 5 to 6B As shown, the electrode assembly 100' according to the second embodiment of the present disclosure includes an insulating tape 160' attached to the second electrode plate 130' at a position corresponding to the first electrode uncoated portion 116. In addition, the tab cover tape 140' can be expanded to also include a size as large as the size of the second insulating tape 164 to cover the second electrode base tab 138 and serve as the second insulating tape 164 to replace the second insulating tape 164 of the first embodiment. That is, the insulating tape 160' is formed to be the same as the first insulating tape 162 of the first embodiment, and the tab cover tape 140' is formed to have a sufficiently large size so as to also cover the attachment area of the second insulating tape 164 of the first embodiment. Although the tab cover tape 140' is expanded and provided without the additional second insulating tape 164, the same effect as the first embodiment can be obtained.

[0063] In some embodiments, insulating tapes having different structures may be provided as described below. Hereinafter, for convenience of description, the description of the same structure as the first embodiment will be omitted (e.g., not repeated), and only the different structures will be described (the omitted description is because the structures of the insulating tapes of the surface A and the surface B are different). Fig. 6A and Figure 6B same as shown in ).

[0064] Figure 7 is a schematic cross-sectional view of an electrode assembly according to a third embodiment of the present disclosure.

[0065] like Figure 7As shown, the electrode assembly 100" according to the third embodiment of the present disclosure includes an insulating tape 160", which includes a first insulating tape 162" and a second insulating tape 164". In addition, the electrode assembly 100" may include a third insulating tape 166", which has a size suitable for (e.g., capable of) fully covering the tab cover tape 140 and the second insulating tape 164". That is, the third insulating tape 166" is attached to the tab cover tape 140 and the second insulating tape 164" and additionally covers the tab cover tape 140 and the second insulating tape 164". Due to the above structure, the same or better effects as each of the first and second embodiments can be obtained.

[0066] According to an embodiment of the present disclosure, by adding an insulating tape on the positive electrode plate corresponding to the uncoated portion of the negative electrode plate, the deposition of positive ions can be minimized or reduced. In addition, because the separator is prevented or substantially prevented from being punched (e.g., pierced or penetrated) by the stacking of deposited positive ions (e.g., the formation of lithium dendrites), a short circuit between the positive electrode and the negative electrode can be prevented or substantially prevented. Therefore, the effect of improving the safety of the secondary battery during charging and discharging can be obtained.
