AI Technical Summary

Technical Problem

In NR V2X communication systems, when a UE has both uplink (URLLC) and sidelink services, existing technologies fail to effectively consider the quality of service (QoS) requirements between the two, resulting in an inability to properly handle the transmission priority issues of overlapping time domains.

Method used

By comparing the QoS requirements of UL and SL transmissions, priority is determined for either UL or SL transmissions. A transmission control scheme is adopted to ensure the reliability and latency requirements of the URLLC service, including comparing QoS parameters such as priority, latency budget, and error rate to determine which transmission should be prioritized.

Benefits of technology

This system effectively handles the temporal overlap between UL and SL transmissions in NR V2X communication systems, ensuring the quality of URLLC services and preventing transmission loss and service quality degradation.

Description

TECHNICAL FIELD

[0001] The present application relates generally to wireless communication, and more particularly to methods and apparatus for controlling sidelink (SL) and uplink (UL) transmissions during communication of NR (New Radio) supporting V2X (Vehicle-to-Everything). BACKGROUND

[0002] V2X has been introduced into 5G wireless communication technology. Device-to-device (D2D) communication is suitable for public safety and commercial communication use cases and also for V2X scenarios. In terms of channel structure for D2D communication, a direct link between two user equipments (UEs) is called a sidelink or SL. Sidelink is a Long Term Evolution (LTE) feature introduced in 3GPP (Third Generation Partnership Project) Release 12 and enables direct communication between proximal UEs and data does not need to go through a base station (BS) or core network.

[0003] To meet the requirement of providing relatively good performance on D2D communication, sidelink, or NR sidelink (e.g., advanced 3GPP NR (New Radio) V2X services), techniques of controlling SL and UL transmissions during communication of NR V2X are developed. SUMMARY

[0004] Some embodiments of the present application provide a method performed by a user equipment (UE). The method includes determining whether a UL transmission and a SL transmission overlap in a time domain; and in response to the UL transmission and the SL transmission overlapping in the time domain, determining which of the UL transmission and the SL transmission to transmit without transmitting the other of the UL transmission and the SL transmission based on quality of service (QoS) requirements of the UL transmission and the SL transmission.

[0005] Some embodiments of the present application provide an apparatus. The apparatus includes a non-transitory computer-readable medium having stored thereon computer-executable instructions; receiving circuitry; transmitting circuitry; and a processor coupled to the non-transitory computer-readable medium, the receiving circuitry, and the transmitting circuitry, wherein the computer-executable instructions cause the processor to implement a method for transmitting data performed by a UE. [0014] The detailed description of the drawings is intended as a description of the current preferred embodiments of the present application and is not intended to represent the only forms in which the present application can be practiced. It is understood that the same or equivalent functions can be accomplished by different embodiments that are intended to be encompassed within the spirit and scope of the present application.

[0015] A UE in an NR V2X scenario can be referred to as a V2X UE. A V2X UE that transmits data according to a sidelink resource scheduled by a base station (BS) can be referred to as a transmitting UE, a transmitting UE, a transmitting V2X UE, a Tx UE, a V2X Tx UE, or the like. A V2X UE that receives data according to a sidelink resource scheduled by a BS can be referred to as a receiving UE, a receiving V2X UE, a Rx UE, a V2X Rx UE, or the like.

[0016] A BS in an NR V2X scenario can be referred to as a base unit, base station, access point, access terminal, macrocell, NodeB, enhanced NodeB (eNB), gNB, home NodeB, relay node, device, remote unit, or by any other terminology used in the art. BSs can be distributed over a geographic area. Generally, a BS is a part of a radio access network that can include one or more controllers that can be communicably coupled to one or more corresponding base stations.

[0017] A BS can be communicably coupled to one or more packet core networks (PCNs), which can be coupled to other networks, such as packet data networks (PDNs) (e.g., the Internet) and public switched telephone networks, among other networks. These and other elements of radio access networks and core networks are not illustrated, but are well known to those of ordinary skill in the art. For example, one or more BSs can be communicably coupled to a mobility management entity (MME), a serving gateway (SGW), and / or a packet data network gateway (PGW).

[0018] A BS can serve a number of V2X UEs within a service area (e.g., a cell or a cell sector) via wireless communication links. The BS can communicate directly with one or more of the V2X UEs via communication signals. For example, the BS can serve V2X UEs within a macro cell.

[0019] Sidelink (SL) communications in the NR V2X scenario include groupcast communications, unicast communications, or broadcast communications. Communications between a UE and a BS include uplink (UL) communications and downlink (DL) communications.

[0020] For a UE with both services on UL and services on SL, due to the limited capability of the UE, some UEs cannot transmit both UL and SL transmissions at the same time. For example, if the UE has only one Tx chain, when both UL and SL transmissions need to be transmitted on the Tx chain at the same point in time, the UE has to transmit only the SL transmission without transmitting the UL transmission at this point in time; alternatively, the UE has to transmit only the UL transmission without transmitting the SL transmission at this point in time. In LTE standardization, in a mechanism that only considers QoS requirements of services on SL, when services on SL have higher priority than a threshold, UL transmission will be dropped and SL transmission will be transmitted.

[0021] In the NR V2X communication system, one case is that a V2X UE has both URLLC services on UL and services on SL at the same time. URLLC services on UL are more stringent in delay and reliability requirements than services on SL. Therefore, it is not acceptable for the V2X UE to transmit SL transmissions of services on SL and drop UL transmissions of URLLC services on UL. Thus, if simultaneously occurring services on SL have higher priority than a threshold, a mechanism that only considers QoS requirements of services on SL without considering QoS requirements of services on UL is not applicable. In this case, the V2X UE also needs to consider QoS requirements of services on UL to guarantee the quality of services on UL (e.g., URLLC services).

[0022] In view of the above, in an NR V2X communication system, both UL and SL QoS requirements need to be considered to determine the priority of UL and SL transmissions. In this application, when a UE needs to transmit both UL and SL transmissions that overlap in time domain, prioritizing UL transmission means transmitting UL transmission without transmitting SL transmission; and prioritizing SL transmission means transmitting SL transmission without transmitting UL transmission.

[0023] In some embodiments of the application, when a UE needs to transmit both UL and SL transmissions that overlap in time domain, prioritizing UL transmission means transmitting UL transmission and dropping SL transmission; and prioritizing SL transmission means transmitting SL transmission and dropping UL transmission.

[0024] Some embodiments of the application provide a mechanism for controlling SL and UL transmissions during communication of NR supporting V2X. Some embodiments of the application provide a mechanism for determining which of UL and SL transmissions to transmit without transmitting the other of UL and SL transmissions based on QoS requirements of UL and SL transmissions that overlap in time domain. Some embodiments of the application provide a mechanism for comparing QoS parameters of UL and SL transmissions.

[0025] Some embodiments of the application provide an apparatus for controlling SL and UL transmissions during communication of NR supporting V2X. Some embodiments of the application provide an apparatus for determining which of UL and SL transmissions to transmit without transmitting the other of UL and SL transmissions based on QoS requirements of UL and SL transmissions that overlap in time domain. Some embodiments of the application provide an apparatus for comparing QoS parameters of UL and SL transmissions.

[0026] Embodiments of the application can be provided in network architectures employing various service scenarios, such as (but not limited to) 3GPP 3G, Long Term Evolution (LTE), LTE-Advanced (LTE-A), 3GPP 4G, 3GPP 5G NR (New Radio), 3GPP LTE Release 12 and beyond, etc. It is contemplated that the terminology set forth in this application can change as 3GPP and related communication technologies evolve, which should not affect the principles of this application.

[0027] Figure 1 An exemplary sidelink communication system in accordance with some embodiments of the application is illustrated. As Figure 1As shown in FIG. 1, a sidelink communication system includes a base station (i.e., BS 101) and some UEs (i.e., UE 102, UE 103, UE 104, UE 105, and UE 106). UE 102, UE 103, UE 104, UE 105, and UE 106 can be configured to perform sidelink unicast transmission, sidelink groupcast transmission, or sidelink broadcast transmission.

[0028] It is contemplated that, according to some other embodiments of the present application, the sidelink communication system can include more or fewer BSs, more or fewer UEs, and more or fewer UE groupcast groups; and furthermore, the UE groupcast groups can include different numbers of UEs at different times, as well as joining and leaving of UEs during sidelink communication.

[0029] It is contemplated that, according to some other embodiments of the present application, Figure 1 The names of the UEs shown in FIG. 1 can be different, e.g., Tx UE, Rx UE, etc. Furthermore, although Figure 1 Each UE shown in FIG. 1 is shown in the shape of a car, but it is contemplated that, according to some other embodiments of the present application, the sidelink communication system can include any type of UE (e.g., a mapping device, a cell phone, a computer, a laptop, an IoT (Internet of Things) device, or other type of device).

[0030] According to Figure 1 According to an embodiment of the present application, UE 102 functions as a Tx UE. UE 102 can transmit information to BS 101 via an uplink, and receive control information from BS 101. UE 102 can transmit information or data via a sidelink to other UEs within the sidelink communication system through sidelink unicast, sidelink groupcast, or sidelink broadcast. For example, UE 102 transmits data to UE 103 via a sidelink, where UE 103 functions as an Rx UE. UE 104, UE 105, and UE 106 form a group of Rx UEs. This group of Rx UEs can be referred to as reception group 100. UE 102 can transmit data to all UEs in reception group 100 via a sidelink. Furthermore, UE 102 can simultaneously transmit data to UE 103 and all UEs in reception group 100 via a sidelink.

[0031] In some embodiments of the present application, if an UL transmission overlaps with an SL transmission in the time domain, a transmission control scheme is provided to handle the UL and SL between the BS and the Tx UE, and between the Tx UE and the Rx UE. The Tx UE can determine which of the UL and SL transmissions to transmit according to the transmission control scheme implemented in the sidelink communication system.

[0032] Figure 2 A flowchart of a method for controlling transmissions according to some embodiments of the present application is illustrated. Reference is made to FIG. 1.Figure 2 In some embodiments of the present application, the method 200 is performed by a UE (e.g., the Tx UE or the UE 102 as explained and described with reference to Figure 1 FIG. 1).

[0033] In operation 201, a UE (e.g., the UE 102 as explained and described with reference to Figure 1 FIG. 1) determines whether a UL transmission and a SL transmission overlap in a time domain. The UL transmission is to be transmitted on an uplink between the UE and a base station (e.g., the BS 101 as explained and described with reference to Figure 1 FIG. 1). The SL transmission is to be transmitted on a sidelink between the UE and a Rx UE (e.g., the UE 103, the UE 104, the UE 105, or the UE 106 as explained and described with reference to Figure 1 FIG. 1).

[0034] In operation 202, in response to the UL transmission and the SL transmission overlapping in the time domain, a transmission control scheme is applied. In some embodiments, the transmission control scheme includes the UE determining which of the UL transmission and the SL transmission to transmit without transmitting the other of the UL transmission and the SL transmission based on QoS requirements of the UL transmission and QoS requirements of the SL transmission. In preferred embodiments, if the UL transmission is transmitted, the SL transmission is dropped; if the SL transmission is transmitted, the UL transmission is dropped.

[0035] In some embodiments of the present application, the QoS requirements of each of the UL and SL transmissions include: a PC5 5QI (PQI), a resource type, a priority, a packet delay budget (PDB), a packet error rate (PER), an average window of GBR, an average window of delay-critical GBR, a maximum data burst volume (MDBV) of delay-critical GBR, a guaranteed flow bit rate (GFBR), a maximum flow bit rate (MFBR), a PC5 link aggregate maximum bit rate (LINK-AMBR), a communication range, and / or a logical channel priority. For example, the resource type is at least one of a guaranteed bit rate (GBR), a delay-critical GBR, and a non-GBR.

[0036] The details described in all the following embodiments of the present application (e.g., how to consider the QoS requirements of services on the UL and the SL when determining the priority of the UL and the SL transmissions; how to handle the case where the UL transmission contains a high-priority MAC CE when determining which of the UL and the SL transmissions to prioritize using common solutions; how to handle the case where the UL transmission is a scheduling request (SR) instead of data when determining which of the UL and the SL transmissions to prioritize; and how to handle the case where the SL transmission includes HARQ feedback information instead of data when determining which of the UL and the SL transmissions to prioritize) are applicable to the embodiments of the present application as Figure 2The embodiments shown in

[0037] Figures 3-1 to 3-5 Further flowcharts illustrating the transmission control schemes of the present application.

[0038] Figures 3-1 to 3-5 The embodiments of the present application introduce transmission control schemes that take into account the QoS requirements of services on UL and SL when UL transmissions and SL transmissions happen to overlap in time domain for the Tx UE. As Figures 3-1 to 3-5 The transmission control schemes in the embodiments shown in

[0039] For example, if the SL transmission has a higher priority than the UL transmission, the SL transmission can be prioritized. If the SL transmission has a lower priority than the UL transmission, the UL transmission can be prioritized. If the SL and UL transmissions have the same priority, one or more other parameters or conditions can be considered in order to determine which transmission to prioritize. For example, in order to determine which of the UL and SL transmissions to prioritize, HARQ related parameters of the UL and SL transmissions can be considered. Configurations from the BS for the UL and SL transmissions can be compared. Alternatively, other QoS parameters of the UL and SL transmissions can be compared.

[0040] In some embodiments of the present application, when UL transmissions and SL transmissions happen to overlap in time domain at the UE, but the UE cannot transmit the overlapping UL and SL transmissions simultaneously, and in addition, the UL transmission is not prioritized by the upper layer of the UE nor is it for Msg3 transmission, the UE can compare the QoS requirements of the UL transmission and the SL transmission, and then determine which of the UL and SL transmissions to transmit without transmitting the other one of the UL and SL transmissions according to the specific rules described in the present application, for example, as shown in the embodiments of Figures 2 to 6

[0041] In some embodiments of the present application, the UE compares the QoS parameters of the UL transmission configured by the BS and the QoS parameters of the SL transmission configured by the BS, and then transmits one of the UL transmission and the SL transmission without transmitting the other one based on the comparison result.

[0042] It should be noted that more than one embodiment is provided to determine which of the UL transmission and the SL transmission to transmit in the case that the UL transmission and the SL transmission have the same level of QoS requirements. The following embodiments are explained with reference to Figures 3-1 to 3-5 The embodiments are explained with reference to

[0043] In particular, in the embodiments shown in Figure 3-1 In block 301, the UE (e.g., as referred to in Figure 1 The UE 102) compares the QoS requirement of the UL transmission with the QoS requirement of the SL transmission.

[0044] In block 302, it is determined that the QoS requirement of the UL transmission is higher than the QoS requirement of the SL transmission, and then the UE transmits the UL transmission without transmitting the SL transmission, as illustrated with reference to block 311.

[0045] In block 303, it is determined that the QoS requirement of the SL transmission is higher than the QoS requirement of the UL transmission, and then the UE transmits the SL transmission without transmitting the UL transmission, as illustrated with reference to block 312.

[0046] In some embodiments of the present application, both the UL transmission and the SL transmission are associated with multiple logical channels. The UE can compare a value of a highest priority of the SL logical channels in a medium access control (MAC) protocol data unit (PDU) with a value of a highest priority of the UL logical channels in the MAC PDU. If a smaller value of the priority means a higher priority, then in response to the value of the highest priority of the SL logical channels in the MAC PDU being smaller than the value of the highest priority of the UL logical channels in the MAC PDU, the SL transmission is prioritized over the UL transmission. Otherwise, in response to the value of the highest priority of the SL logical channels in the MAC PDU being greater than the value of the highest priority of the uplink logical channels in the MAC PDU, the UL transmission is prioritized over the SL transmission.

[0047] Alternatively, if a larger value of the priority means a higher priority, then in response to the value of the highest priority of the SL logical channels in the MAC PDU being greater than the value of the highest priority of the uplink logical channels in the MAC PDU, the SL transmission is prioritized over the UL transmission. Otherwise, in response to the value of the highest priority of the SL logical channels in the MAC PDU being smaller than the value of the highest priority of the uplink logical channels in the MAC PDU, the UL transmission is prioritized over the SL transmission.

[0048] In some embodiments of the present application, the priority of the UL logical channels in the MAC PDU refers to the priority of the logical channels of a data portion in the MAC PDU (e.g., a MAC service data unit (SDU)), but not the priority of the logical channels of a MAC control element (CE) in the MAC PDU.

[0049] In block 304, it is determined that the UL transmission and the SL transmission have the same level of QoS requirement, in block 305, the UE further determines whether the SL transmission has blind retransmission. If "yes", in response to the SL transmission having blind retransmission, the UE transmits the UL transmission without transmitting the SL transmission, as explained with reference to block 311. If "no", in response to the SL transmission not having blind retransmission, the UE transmits the SL transmission without transmitting the UL transmission, as explained with reference to block 312.

[0050] In Figure 3-2 embodiments, the blocks are the same as those in Figure 3-1 except block 306. In Figure 3-2 if the UL transmission and the SL transmission have the same level of QoS requirement, in block 306, the UE can determine whether the SL transmission has feedback-based HARQ retransmission enabled, and has less number of retransmission than the UL transmission. If "yes", in response to the SL transmission having feedback-based HARQ retransmission enabled and less number of retransmission, the UE transmits the SL transmission without transmitting the UL transmission, as explained with reference to block 312. If "no", in response to the SL transmission not having feedback-based HARQ retransmission enabled and less number of retransmission, the UE transmits the UL transmission without transmitting the SL transmission, as explained with reference to block 311.

[0051] In Figure 3-3 embodiments, the blocks are the same as those in Figure 3-1 except block 307. In Figure 3-3 if the UL transmission and the SL transmission have the same level of QoS requirement, in block 307, the UE can determine whether the remaining delay budget for data of the SL transmission is less than the remaining delay budget for data of the UL transmission. If "yes", i.e., the remaining delay budget for data of the SL transmission is less than the remaining delay budget for data of the UL transmission, the UE transmits the SL transmission without transmitting the UL transmission, as explained with reference to block 312. If "no", in response to the remaining delay budget for data of the SL transmission not being less than the remaining delay budget for data of the UL transmission, the UE transmits the UL transmission without transmitting the SL transmission, as explained with reference to block 311.

[0052] In Figure 3-4 embodiments, the blocks are the same as those in Figure 3-1 except block 308. In Figure 3-4If "yes", i.e., the delay budget for the data of the SL transmission is less than the delay budget for the data of the UL transmission, the UE transmits the SL transmission without transmitting the UL transmission, as explained with reference to block 312. If "no", then in response to the delay budget for the data of the SL transmission not being less than the delay budget for the data of the UL transmission, the UE transmits the UL transmission without transmitting the SL transmission, as explained with reference to block 311.

[0053] In some embodiments of the application, the blocks are the same as in Figure 3-5 In some embodiments of the application, the blocks are the same as in Figure 3-1 In some embodiments of the application, in addition to block 309, the blocks are the same as in Figure 3-5 In some embodiments of the application, in addition to block 309, the blocks are the same as in

[0054] In some other embodiments of the application, if the UL transmission and the SL transmission happen to overlap in time domain for the Tx UE, the UE can transmit the UL transmission without transmitting the SL transmission based on a default setting.

[0055] Figure 4 Another flowchart illustrating a transmission control scheme according to some embodiments of the application.

[0056] As shown in the embodiments illustrated in Figure 4 introduce a transmission control scheme that takes into account the priority of the two services on UL and SL when the UL transmission and the SL transmission happen to overlap in time domain for the Tx UE. As shown in the embodiments illustrated in Figure 4 The transmission control scheme in the embodiments illustrated in

[0057] As shown in the embodiments illustrated in Figure 4 Assume that a smaller value of priority means higher priority. It is contemplated that according to some other embodiments of the application, a larger value of priority means higher priority, and such embodiments are similar to the embodiments illustrated in Figure 4

[0058] In particular, in the embodiments illustrated in Figure 4 In the embodiments shown in the middle, in block 401, the UE (e.g., as explained and described with reference to the UE 102) determines whether a value of a priority of the UL transmission is less than a threshold value. Figure 1

[0059] If “Yes”, in response to the value of the priority of the UL transmission being less than the threshold value, the UE transmits the UL transmission without transmitting the SL transmission, as explained with reference to block 404. If “No”, in response to the value of the priority of the UL transmission not being less than the threshold value, the UE further determines whether a value of a priority of the SL transmission is less than another threshold value, as explained with reference to block 402.

[0060] Then, if “Yes”, in response to the value of the priority of the SL transmission being less than the above-mentioned another threshold value, the UE transmits the SL transmission without transmitting the UL transmission, as explained with reference to block 403. If “No”, in response to the value of the priority of the SL transmission not being less than the above-mentioned another threshold value, the UE transmits the UL transmission without transmitting the SL transmission, as explained with reference to block 404.

[0061] In some embodiments of the present application, in block 401, the UE compares a value of a highest priority of UL logical channels in the MAC PDU with a threshold value configured by an upper layer of the UE. If “Yes”, in response to the value of the highest priority of UL logical channels in the MAC PDU being less than the value of the threshold value configured by the upper layer of the UE, the UL transmission is prioritized over the SL transmission. If “No”, in block 402, the UE further compares a value of a highest priority of SL logical channels in the MAC PDU with another threshold value configured by the upper layer of the UE. If “Yes”, in response to the value of the highest priority of SL logical channels in the MAC PDU being less than the above-mentioned threshold value configured by the upper layer of the UE, the SL transmission is prioritized over the UL transmission. If “No”, in response to the value of the highest priority of SL logical channels in the MAC PDU not being less than the above-mentioned threshold value configured by the upper layer of the UE, the UL transmission is prioritized over the SL transmission.

[0062] It is contemplated that the priority of the UL transmission can be associated with a QoS requirement of the UL transmission or configured by the BS. For one example, the priority of the UL transmission can be a priority in a 5QI table of a service associated with the UL transmission. For a further example, the priority of the UL transmission can be a priority of a logical channel of the UL transmission configured by the BS.

[0063] It is contemplated that the priority of the SL transmission can be associated with a QoS requirement of the SL transmission or configured by the BS. For example, the priority of the SL transmission can be a priority in a PQI table of a service associated with the SL transmission. For another example, the priority of the SL transmission can be a priority of a logical channel of the SL transmission configured by the BS.

[0064] Figure 5 Another flowchart illustrating a transmission control scheme in accordance with some embodiments of the present application.

[0065] As Figure 5 The embodiments shown in Figure 5 The transmission control scheme in the embodiments shown in

[0066] As Figure 5 The embodiments shown in Figure 5 The embodiments shown in

[0067] In particular, in the embodiments shown in Figure 5 In particular, in the embodiments shown in Figure 1 In particular, in the embodiments shown in

[0068] If “Yes”, in response to the UL transmission containing the one or more specific LCHs, the UE transmits the UL transmission without transmitting the SL transmission, as explained with reference to block 504. If “No”, in response to the UL transmission not containing the one or more specific LCHs, the UE further determines whether a value of a priority of the SL transmission is less than a threshold, as explained with reference to block 502.

[0069] Then, if “Yes”, in response to the value of the priority of the SL transmission being less than the threshold, the UE transmits the SL transmission without transmitting the UL transmission, as explained with reference to block 503. If “No”, in response to the value of the priority of the SL transmission not being less than the threshold, the UE transmits the UL transmission without transmitting the SL transmission, as explained with reference to block 504.

[0070] In some particular embodiments, in block 501, the UE determines whether the UL logical channel in the MAC PDU is in a list of prioritized logical channels configured by the upper layer of the UE. If "yes", then in response to the UL logical channel in the MAC PDU being in the list, the UL transmission is prioritized over the SL transmission. If "no", then in block 502, in response to the UL logical channel in the MAC PDU not being in the list, the UE further determines whether a highest priority value of the SL logical channel in the MAC PDU is less than a threshold value configured by the upper layer of the UE. If "yes", then in response to the highest priority value of the SL logical channel in the MAC PDU being less than the threshold value configured by the upper layer of the UE, the SL transmission is prioritized over the UL transmission. If "no", then in response to the highest priority value of the SL logical channel in the MAC PDU not being less than the threshold value configured by the upper layer of the UE, the UL transmission is prioritized over the SL transmission.

[0071] Figure 6 Another flowchart illustrating a transmission control scheme according to some embodiments of the present application.

[0072] As Figure 6 the embodiments shown in Figure 6 the transmission control scheme in the embodiments shown in

[0073] As Figure 6 the embodiments shown in Figure 6 the transmission control scheme in the embodiments shown in

[0074] In particular, in the embodiments shown in Figure 6 in block 601, the UE (e.g., the UE 102 as explained and described with reference to Figure 1 determines whether the UL transmission contains a logical channel with a particular priority.

[0075] If “yes”, then in response to the UL transmission containing a specific priority of the LCH, the UE transmits the UL transmission but not the SL transmission, as illustrated in reference box 604. If “no”, then in response to the UL transmission not containing a specific priority of the LCH, the UE further determines whether the priority value of the SL transmission is less than a threshold, as illustrated in reference box 602.

[0076] Then, if "yes", the UE transmits an SL transmission but not a UL transmission in response to a priority value of the SL transmission being less than the threshold, as illustrated in reference box 603. If "no", the UE transmits a UL transmission but not an SL transmission in response to a priority value of the SL transmission being not less than the threshold, as illustrated in reference box 604.

[0077] In some specific embodiments, in block 601, the UE determines whether the priority of the UL logical channel in the MAC PDU is in a list of prioritized logical channel priorities configured by the UE's upper layer. If "yes", then in response to the priority of the UL logical channel in the MAC PDU being in the list, UL transmission takes precedence over SL transmission. If "no", then in block 602, in response to the priority of the UL logical channel in the MAC PDU not being in the list, the UE further determines whether the highest priority value of the SL logical channel in the MAC PDU is less than a threshold configured by the UE's upper layer. If "yes", then in response to the highest priority value of the SL logical channel in the MAC PDU being less than the threshold configured by the UE's upper layer, SL transmission takes precedence over UL transmission. If "no", then in response to the highest priority value of the SL logical channel in the MAC PDU not being less than the threshold configured by the UE's upper layer, UL transmission takes precedence over SL transmission.

[0078] Figures 2 to 6 This application provides some common solutions for handling situations where UL and SL transmissions happen to overlap in the time domain for a Tx UE. More specifically, in some embodiments of this application, in Figure 2 Operation 202 in Figures 3-1 to 3-5 Operation 301 in Figure 4 Operation 401 in Figure 5 Operation 501 and Figure 6 Before operation 601 in the UE (e.g., as referenced) Figure 1 The UE 102 described further determines whether the UL transmission is prioritized by the UE's upper layer or used for Msg3 transmission. In response to the UL transmission being prioritized by the upper layer or used for Msg3 transmission, the UE transmits the UL transmission but not the SL transmission. In response to the UL transmission not being prioritized by the BS and not used for Msg3 transmission, the UE determines whether to perform the UL transmission or the SL transmission based on the QoS requirements of the UL and SL transmissions.

[0079] The common solution described above can also be applied to the case where the UL transmission contains a high-priority MAC CE. For example, a special priority of the MAC CE in the UL transmission can be defined or configured by the BS, and then the special priority of the MAC CE is compared with the QoS requirement or threshold of the SL transmission in order to finally determine which one of the prioritized UL and SL transmissions is transmitted.

[0080] In particular, when the UE (e.g., the UE 102 as explained and described with reference to Figure 1 needs to transmit both the UL transmission and the SL transmission that overlap in the time domain, but the UE cannot transmit the overlapping UL and SL transmissions simultaneously, and moreover, the UL transmission is not prioritized by the upper layer of the UE and is also not for Msg3 transmission, the UE can compare the QoS requirement of the MAC CE in the UL transmission with the QoS requirement of the SL transmission, or compare the QoS requirement of the MAC CE in the UL transmission with a threshold configured by the upper layer of the UE in order to determine which one of the UL and SL transmissions is transmitted and the other one of the UL and SL transmissions is not transmitted according to the specific rules described in this application (e.g., the embodiments shown in Figs. 3 and 4). That is, by comparing the QoS requirement of the MAC CE in the UL transmission with the QoS requirement of the SL transmission, the operation 301 or 401 in Fig. 3 or the operation 401 in Fig. 4 can be replaced. Figures 3-1 to 3-5 Figures 3-1 to 3-5 Figure 4

[0081] In response to the UL transmission containing the MAC CE, the UE determines which one of the UL transmission and the SL transmission is transmitted and the other one of the UL transmission and the SL transmission is not transmitted based on the QoS requirement of the MAC CE in the UL transmission and the QoS requirement of the SL transmission.

[0082] For example, the QoS requirement of the MAC CE includes a priority of the MAC CE. The priority of the MAC CE can be: a highest priority of one or more associated logical channels, a highest priority of a logical channel group (LCG), a highest priority of a SL LCG, or a priority of an LCH.

[0083] In some other embodiments, in response to the MAC CE being a specific MAC CE and the UL transmission containing the specific MAC CE, the UE transmits the UL transmission and does not transmit the SL transmission. For example, the specific MAC CE is defined in a wireless communication standard or configured by the BS. For further example, the specific MAC CE contains specific logical channel information configured by the BS. These embodiments can be performed using the common solution shown in Fig. 5. For example, the operation of determining whether the MAC CE is the specific MAC CE can be performed in the operation 202, 302, or 402 in Figs. 2, 3, or 4, respectively. Figures 2 to 6 Figure 2 Figures 3-1 to 3-5 operation 301 in FIG. 10, Figure 4 operation 401 in FIG. 11, Figure 5 operation 501 in FIG. 12, and Figure 6 operation 601 in FIG. 13.

[0084] The MAC CE can be at least one of: a buffer status report (BSR) MAC CE, a SL BSR MAC CE, a power headroom report (PHR), a configured grant (CG) confirmation MAC CE, and a recommended bit rate MAC CE.

[0085] It is considered that the priority of the CG confirmation MAC CE can be defined as follows. For Type 1 CG confirmation MAC CE, there is a parameter ConfiguredGrantType1Allowed which indicates whether a logical channel can be multiplexed to Type 1 CG resources. Therefore, the priority related to Type 1 CG confirmation MAC CE can be specified as the highest priority of logical channels which are marked as configuredGrantType1Allowed and have data available in the buffer. For Type 2 CG confirmation MAC CE, the UE will report the traffic pattern of Type 2 CG scheduling in UEassistanceinformation using logical channel ID and priority. Therefore, the priority related to Type 2 CG confirmation MAC CE can be specified as the highest priority of logical channels which are reported to the BS and have data available in the buffer.

[0086] It is considered that the priority of the BSR MAC CE can be defined as the highest priority of the priority of LCGs. The priority of an LCG in an LCG is the highest priority of LCHs in the LCG.

[0087] It is considered that the priority of the SL BSR MAC CE can be defined as the highest priority of SL LCGs. The priority of an SL LCG in an SL LCG is the highest priority of SL LCHs in the SL LCG.

[0088] It is considered that the priority of the recommended bit rate MAC CE can be defined as the priority of an LCH which is the target logical channel of the recommended bit rate configured by the BS.

[0089] It is considered that the BS can configure which MAC CE is prioritized for the UE. The UE can check whether the MAC CE in the UL transmission is in the list of prioritized MAC CEs configured by the upper layer of the UE and determine which of the UL and SL transmissions to transmit. The BS can enable or disable the list of prioritized MAC CEs.

[0090] For example, if the UL transmission contains a certain MAC CE, the UL transmission is always prioritized. The certain MAC CE can be defined in a wireless communication standard or configured by the BS. For a further example, if the UL transmission contains a certain MAC CE and the MAC CE contains certain logical channel information configured by the upper layer of the UE, the UL transmission is prioritized.

[0091] Some embodiments of the present application provide a solution to handle a case where the UL transmission is a scheduling request (SR) rather than data in determining which of the prioritized UL and SL transmissions. The details described in all the foregoing embodiments of the present application apply to the embodiments of the solution to handle a case where the UL transmission is an SR rather than data.

[0092] In particular, when the UL transmission and the SL transmission happen to overlap in the time domain at the UE, but the UE cannot transmit the overlapping UL and SL transmissions simultaneously, and further, the UL transmission is an SR transmitted on a physical uplink control channel (PUCCH), the UE can compare the QoS requirement of the SR with the QoS requirement of the SL transmission, or compare the QoS requirement of the SR with a threshold configured by the upper layer of the UE, in order to determine whether to transmit one of the UL and SL transmissions without transmitting the other, or whether to adjust the power of the UL transmission or the SL transmission, according to the rules described in the present application, e.g., as shown in the embodiments of Figures 3-1 to 3-5 and 4. That is, by comparing the QoS requirement of the SR with the QoS requirement of the SL transmission, operation 301 in Figures 3-1 to 3-5 may be replaced; or by comparing the QoS requirement of the SR with the threshold, operation 401 in Figure 4 may be replaced.

[0093] More particularly, in some embodiments of the present application, a UE (e.g., the UE 102 as explained and described with reference to Figure 1 determines whether the UL transmission includes an SR. In response to the UL transmission including the SR, based on a QoS requirement of the SR and a QoS requirement of the SL transmission, determines which of the UL transmission and the SL transmission to transmit without transmitting the other of the UL transmission and the SL transmission.

[0094] For example, the QoS requirement of the SR can be a priority of the SR. The priority of the SR can be defined as a highest priority of one or more associated logical channels. The one or more associated logical channels include at least one of a UL logical channel and a SL logical channel, and the one or more logical channels are mapped to the SR and carry available data to be transmitted.

[0095] Some embodiments of the present application provide a solution to handle a case where the SL transmission includes HARQ feedback information instead of data in determining which of the prioritized UL and SL transmissions. The details described in all the foregoing embodiments of the present application apply to the embodiments of the solution to handle a case where the SL transmission includes HARQ feedback information instead of data.

[0096] In particular, when the UL transmission and the SL transmission happen to overlap in the time domain at the UE, but the UE cannot transmit the overlapping UL and SL transmissions simultaneously, and further, the UL transmission is not prioritized by the upper layer of the UE, and also not for Msg3 transmission, and the SL transmission is a HARQ feedback transmission transmitted on a physical sidelink feedback channel (PSFCH), the UE can compare the QoS requirement of the UL transmission with the QoS requirement of the SL transmission, or compare the QoS requirement of the UL transmission with a threshold configured by the UE upper layer, to determine whether to transmit one of the UL and SL transmissions without transmitting the other according to the rules described in the present application, e.g., as shown in the embodiments of Figures 2 to 6

[0097] More specifically, in some embodiments of the present application, the UE (e.g., the UE 102 as explained and described with reference to Figure 1 determines whether the UL transmission is prioritized by the upper layer of the UE or for Msg3 transmission. In response to the UL transmission being prioritized by the upper layer or for Msg3 transmission, the UE transmits the UL transmission without transmitting the SL transmission. In response to the UL transmission not being prioritized by the upper layer and not for Msg3 transmission, the UE further determines whether the SL transmission includes a SL hybrid automatic repeat request (HARQ) feedback transmission.

[0098] In some embodiments of the present application, in response to the SL transmission including the SL HARQ feedback transmission, the UE further determines which of the UL transmission and the SL transmission to transmit without transmitting the other of the UL transmission and the SL transmission based on a QoS requirement of the UL transmission and a QoS requirement of the SL HARQ feedback transmission.

[0099] For example, the QoS requirement of the SL HARQ feedback transmission includes a priority of the SL HARQ feedback transmission. The priority of the SL HARQ feedback transmission can be a highest priority of one or more logical channels of a MAC PDU associated with the SL HARQ feedback transmission.

[0100] In some embodiments of the present application, in response to the SL transmission including the SL HARQ feedback transmission, the UE transmits the UL transmission without transmitting the SL transmission based on a default setting.

[0101] Some embodiments of the present application provide a solution to handle the case where UL transmission occurs in a secondary cell group (SCG) of a dual connectivity when determining which of the prioritized UL and SL transmissions. This solution also considers SCG UL transmission. For the case where SCG UL and SL are in the same serving cell, or after MCG UL and SL prioritization is completed, the UE shall proceed with SCG UL transmission and SL transmission prioritization.

[0102] The details described in all the foregoing embodiments of the present application apply to these embodiments of the solution to handle the case where UL transmission occurs in a secondary cell group (SCG) of a dual connectivity when determining which of the prioritized UL and SL transmissions.

[0103] In particular, when the UL (e.g., UE 102 as explained and described with reference to Figure 1 When the UL (e.g., UE 102 as explained and described with reference to

[0104] More in particular, in some embodiments, if the SCG UL transmission and the SL transmission are in the same serving cell, the UE can compare the QoS requirements of the SCG UL transmission and the QoS requirements of the SL transmission.

[0105] In some embodiments, after the UE has completed the comparison of the MCG UL transmission and the SL transmission, the UE can compare the QoS requirements of the SCG UL transmission and the SL transmission.

[0106] In some additional embodiments, if the SCG UL transmission and the SL transmission belong to the same RAT, the UE can compare the QoS requirements of the SCG UL transmission and the SL transmission.

[0107] In some further embodiments, if the UL transmission and the SL transmission belong to the same RAT, the UE can compare only the QoS requirements of the UL transmission and the QoS requirements of the SL transmission.

[0108] In some other embodiments, if the UL transmission and the SL transmission belong to the same RAT, the UE can first compare the QoS requirements of the UL transmission and the SL transmission.

[0109] Some embodiments of the present application provide a solution to determine priority between LTE SL transmission and NR SL transmission. This solution also considers LTE SL and NR SL, and in this solution a special QoS parameter is used for NR SL. The details described in all the foregoing embodiments of the present application apply to embodiments of the solution to determine which of the prioritized LTE SL transmission and NR SL transmission.

[0110] In particular, when a UE 102 (e.g., as explained and described with reference to Figure 1 has a LTE SL transmission and a NR SL transmission overlaps with the LTE SL transmission in time domain, but the UE cannot transmit the overlapping LTE SL and NR SL transmissions simultaneously, the UE can compare the QoS requirement of the LTE SL transmission with the QoS requirement of the NR SL transmission in order to determine whether to adjust or drop the LTE SL transmission, or whether to adjust or drop the NR SL transmission.

[0111] For example, the QoS requirement of the LTE SL transmission or the QoS requirement of the NR SL transmission can be a priority defined in a PC5 5QI (PQI) table.
