Description

[0001] CROSS-REFERENCE TO RELATED APPLICATIONS

[0002] This application claims priority to U.S. Patent Application No. 17 / 210,133, filed on March 23, 2021, entitled “DEMODULATION REFERENCE SIGNAL SHARING MODE SELECTION IN A WIRELESS COMMUNICATION SYSTEM,” and U.S. Patent Application No. 62 / 994,531, filed on March 25, 2020, entitled “DEMODULATION REFERENCE SIGNAL SHARING MODE SELECTION IN A WIRELESS COMMUNICATION SYSTEM,” each of which is incorporated herein by reference in its entirety. Technical Field

[0003] Aspects of the present disclosure relate generally to wireless communication systems, and more particularly, to demodulation reference signal sharing mode selection in wireless communication systems. Background Art

[0004] Wireless communication networks are widely deployed to provide various communication services, such as voice, video, packet data, messaging, broadcast, etc. These wireless networks may be multiple-access networks capable of supporting multiple users by sharing the available network resources. Such networks, which are typically multiple-access networks, support communication for multiple users by sharing the available network resources.

[0005] A wireless communication network may include multiple base stations or Node Bs that can support communication for multiple user equipments (UEs). A UE may communicate with a base station via a downlink and an uplink. A downlink (or forward link) refers to a communication link from a base station to a UE, and an uplink (or reverse link) refers to a communication link from a UE to a base station.

[0006] The base station may send data and control information to the UE on the downlink, and / or may receive data and control information from the UE on the uplink. On the downlink, the transmission from the base station may encounter interference due to transmissions from neighboring base stations or other wireless radio frequency (RF) transmitters. On the uplink, the transmission from the UE may encounter interference from uplink transmissions of other UEs communicating with neighboring base stations or from other wireless RF transmitters. This interference can reduce performance on both the downlink and uplink.

[0007] As the demand for mobile broadband access continues to increase, the potential for interference and congested networks increases as more UEs access long-range wireless communication networks and more short-range wireless systems are deployed in communities. Research and development continue to drive the development of wireless technologies, not only to meet the growing demand for mobile broadband access, but also to improve and enhance the user experience of mobile communications. [0035] In some aspects of the present disclosure, one or more devices of a wireless communication system are configured to determine a demodulation reference signal (DMRS) sharing mode. Some deployments may be used for uplink transmissions based on one or more parameters of the uplink transmission. The uplink transmission may include repetitions with DMRS. The uplink transmission may also include repetitions that do not include DMRS (e.g., repetitions that "share" DMRS with one or more other repetitions). The DMRS sharing mode may indicate an order of repetitions that include DMRS and repetitions that do not include DMRS. Additional or alternative aspects include various designs of different DMRS patterns to support DMRS sharing (e.g., when PUSCH repetition is enabled).

[0036] One or more aspects of the present disclosure may improve the efficiency or performance of a wireless communication system. For example, by determining a DMRS sharing pattern for an uplink transmission based on one or more parameters of the uplink transmission, a DMRS sharing pattern may be "customized" or "tailored" for one or more specific uplink transmissions. As a result, uplink transmissions of different parameters may be associated with different DMRS sharing patterns, which may improve efficiency or performance in some cases compared to certain other techniques (e.g., a common DMRS sharing pattern for uplink transmissions of different parameters).

[0037] The detailed description in conjunction with the accompanying drawings is intended to describe various aspects and is not intended to limit the scope of the present disclosure. Instead, the detailed description includes specific details for the purpose of providing an understanding of the subject matter of the present disclosure. It will be apparent to those skilled in the art that certain details are not required in every case, and in some cases, well-known structures and components are shown in block diagram form for clarity of presentation.

[0038] Aspects of the present disclosure may be used in wireless communication networks, such as code division multiple access (CDMA) networks, time division multiple access (TDMA) networks, frequency division multiple access (FDMA) networks, orthogonal FDMA (OFDMA) networks, single carrier FDMA (SC-FDMA) networks, LTE networks, GSM networks, fifth generation (5G) or new radio (NR) networks (sometimes referred to as "5G NR" networks / systems / devices), and other communication networks. As described herein, the terms "network" and "system" may be used interchangeably.

[0039] For example, a CDMA network may implement a radio technology such as Universal Terrestrial Radio Access (UTRA), cdma2000, etc. UTRA includes Wideband-CDMA (W-CDMA) and Low Chip Rate (LCR). CDMA2000 covers IS-2000, IS-95 and IS-856 standards.

[0040] TDMA networks can implement radio technologies such as GSM, for example. 3GPP defines standards for GSM EDGE (Enhanced Data Rates for GSM Evolution) radio access networks (RANs), also known as GERANs. GERANs are radio components of GSM / EDGE, and networks that connect base stations (e.g., Ater and Abis interfaces) and base station controllers (A interfaces, etc.). The radio access network represents a component of the GSM network, through which telephone calls and packet data are routed from the public switched telephone network (PSTN) and the Internet to subscriber phones, or from subscriber phones to the public switched telephone network and the Internet, and subscriber phones are also known as user terminals or user equipment (UEs). The network of a mobile phone operator may include one or more GERANs, which may be coupled to a universal terrestrial radio access network (UTRAN) in the case of a UMTS / GSM network. The operator network may also include one or more LTE networks and / or one or more other networks. Various network types may use different radio access technologies (RAYs) and radio access networks (RANs).

[0041] OFDMA networks can implement radio technologies such as Evolved UTRA (E-UTRA), IEEE802.11, IEEE802.16, IEEE 802.20, flash-OFDM, etc. UTRA, E-UTRA, and Global System for Mobile Communications (GSM) are part of Universal Mobile Telecommunications System (UMTS). In particular, Long Term Evolution (LTE) is a version of UMTS that uses E-UTRA. UTRA, E-UTRA, GSM, UMTS, and LTE are described in documents provided by an organization named "3rd Generation Partnership Project" (3GPP), and cdma2000 is described in documents provided by an organization named "3rd Generation Partnership Project 2" (3GPP 2). These different radio technologies and standards are known or under development. For example, the 3rd Generation Partnership Project (3GPP) is a collaboration between telecommunications association groups to define a globally applicable third generation (3G) mobile phone specification. 3GPP Long Term Evolution (LTE) is a 3GPP project that aims to improve the Universal Mobile Telecommunications System (UMTS) mobile phone standard. 3GPP may define specifications for next generation mobile networks, mobile systems, and mobile devices. The present disclosure relates to the evolution of wireless technology from LTE, 4G, 5G, NR, etc., using a set of new and different radio access technologies or radio air interfaces, with shared access to the wireless spectrum between networks.

[0042] 5G networks consider different deployments, different spectrums, and different services and devices that can be implemented using a unified air interface based on OFDM. To achieve these goals, in addition to developing new radio technologies for 5G NR networks, further enhancements to LTE and LTE-A are also considered. 5G NR will be able to scale to provide coverage for (1) massive Internet of Things (IoTs) with ultra-high density (e.g., ~1M nodes / km2), ultra-low complexity (e.g., ~tens of bits / second), ultra-low energy (e.g., ~10+ years of battery life), and deep coverage to reach challenging locations; (2) including mission-critical control with strong security to protect sensitive personal, financial, or classified information, ultra-high reliability (e.g., ~99.9999% reliability), ultra-low latency (e.g., ~1ms), and users with a wide range of mobility or lack of mobility; and (3) with enhanced mobile broadband, including extremely high capacity (e.g., ~10 terabits per second / km2), extremely high data rates (e.g., multi-Gigabit per second rates, 100+ Mbps user experience rates), and deep awareness for advanced discovery and optimization.

[0043] 5G NR devices, networks, and systems can use OFDM-based waveform features. These features can include scalable numerology and transmission time intervals (TTIs); a general, flexible framework that effectively multiplexes services and features through dynamic, low-latency time division duplex (TDD) / frequency division duplex (FDD) designs; and advanced wireless technologies such as massive multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO), robust millimeter wave (mmWave) transmission, advanced channel coding, and device-centric mobility. The scalability of the numerology in 5GNR, as well as the scaling of subcarrier spacing, can effectively solve the problem of operating different services across different spectrums and different deployments. For example, in various outdoor and macro coverage deployments of less than 3GHz FDD / TDD implementations, the subcarrier spacing may appear at 15kHz, such as on bandwidths of 1, 5, 10, 20MHz, etc. For various other outdoor and small cell coverage deployments with TDD greater than 3GHz, the subcarrier spacing on 80 / 100MHz bandwidth may appear at 30kHz. For various other indoor broadband implementations, using TDD on the unlicensed portion of the 5 GHz band, subcarrier spacing may occur at 60 kHz over a 160 MHz bandwidth. Finally, for various deployments transmitting with millimeter wave components at 28 GHz TDD, subcarrier spacing may occur at 120 kHz over a 500 MHz bandwidth.

[0044] 5G NR's scalable parameter set facilitates scalable TTI for different latency and quality of service (QoS) parameters. For example, shorter TTIs can be used for low latency and high reliability, while longer TTIs can be used for higher spectral efficiency. Efficient multiplexing of long and short TTIs allows transmissions to start on symbol boundaries. 5G NR also considers a self-contained integrated subframe design with uplink / downlink scheduling information, data, and acknowledgment in the same subframe. The independent integrated subframe supports communications in unlicensed or contention-based shared spectrum, adaptive uplink / downlink, which can be flexibly configured on a per-cell basis to dynamically switch between uplink and downlink to meet current business needs.

[0045] For clarity, certain aspects of the apparatus and techniques may be described below with reference to exemplary LTE implementations or in an LTE-centric manner, and LTE terminology may be used as an illustrative example in portions of the following description; however, the description is not intended to be limited to LTE applications. In fact, the present disclosure relates to wireless spectrum shared access between networks using different radio access technologies or radio air interfaces (e.g., 5G NR).

[0046] Furthermore, it should be understood that in operation, a wireless communication network adapted according to the concepts herein may operate with any combination of licensed or unlicensed spectrum depending on load and availability. Therefore, it will be apparent to those skilled in the art that the systems, devices, and methods described herein may be applied to other communication systems and applications besides the specific examples provided.

[0047] Although various aspects are described in this application by the description of some examples, it will be understood by those skilled in the art that additional implementations and use cases may occur in many different arrangements and scenarios. The innovations described herein can be implemented across many different platform types, devices, systems, shapes, sizes, and packaging arrangements. For example, implementations and / or uses can be implemented via integrated circuits and / or other devices based on non-module components (e.g., end-user devices, vehicles, communication devices, computing devices, industrial equipment, retail / purchase equipment, medical devices, AI-enabled devices, etc.). Although some examples may or may not be specifically targeted at use cases or applications, a variety of applicability of the described innovations may occur. The scope of implementations can range from chip-level or modular components to non-modular, non-chip-level implementations, and further to aggregated, distributed, or OEM devices or systems incorporating one or more of the described aspects. In some practical settings, the devices incorporating the described aspects and features may also include additional components and features. The innovations described herein can be practiced in a variety of implementations, including both large / small devices of different sizes, shapes, and structures, chip-level components, multi-component systems (e.g., RF chains, communication interfaces, or processors), distributed arrangements, end-user devices, etc.

[0048] Figure 1 A wireless network 100 for communication according to some aspects is shown. The wireless network 100 may, for example, include a 5G wireless network. As will be appreciated by those skilled in the art, Figure 1 The components appearing in may have related counterparts in other network arrangements, including, for example, cellular network arrangements and non-cellular network arrangements (e.g., device-to-device or point-to-point or ad hoc network arrangements, etc.).

[0049] Figure 1The wireless network 100 shown includes multiple base stations 105 and other network entities. A base station may be a station that communicates with a UE, and may also be referred to as an evolved Node B (eNB), a next generation eNB (gNB), an access point, etc. Each base station 105 may provide communication coverage for a specific geographic area. In 3GPP, the term "cell" may refer to a specific geographic coverage area of a base station and / or a base station subsystem serving the coverage area, depending on the context in which the term is used. In an embodiment of the wireless network 100 herein, the base station 105 may be associated with the same operator or different operators (e.g., the wireless network 100 may include multiple operator wireless networks), and may provide wireless communications using one or more frequencies (e.g., one or more frequency bands in a licensed spectrum, an unlicensed spectrum, or a combination thereof) that are the same as those of an adjacent cell. In some examples, a single base station 105 or UE 115 may be operated by more than one network operating entity. In other examples, each base station 105 and UE 115 may be operated by a single network operating entity.

[0050] A base station may provide communication coverage for a macro cell or a small cell (such as a pico cell or a femto cell) and / or other types of cells. A macro cell typically covers a relatively large geographic area (e.g., a radius of several kilometers) and may allow unrestricted access to UEs that have subscribed to services with a network provider. A small cell, such as a pico cell, typically covers a relatively small geographic area and may allow unrestricted access to UEs that have subscribed to services with a network provider. A small cell, such as a femto cell, also typically covers a relatively small geographic area (e.g., a home) and, in addition to unrestricted access, may also provide restricted access to UEs associated with the femto cell (e.g., UEs in a closed subscriber group (CSG), UEs of users in a home, etc.). A base station for a macro cell may be referred to as a macro base station. A base station for a small cell may be referred to as a small cell base station, a pico base station, a femto base station, or a home base station. In Figure 1 In the example shown, base stations 105d and 105e are conventional macro base stations, while base stations 105a-105c are macro base stations that support one of three-dimensional (3D), full-dimensional (FD), or massive MIMO. Base stations 105a-105c utilize their higher-dimensional MIMO capabilities to increase coverage and capacity by utilizing 3D beamforming in both elevation and azimuth beamforming. Base station 105f is a small cell base station, which can be a home node or a portable access point. The base station can support one or more (e.g., two, three, four, etc.) cells.

[0051] Wireless network 100 may support synchronous or asynchronous operation. For synchronous operation, base stations may have similar frame timing, and transmissions from different base stations may be approximately aligned in time. For asynchronous operation, base stations may have different frame timing, and transmissions from different base stations may not be aligned in time. In some cases, the network may be enabled or configured to handle dynamic switching between synchronous or asynchronous operation.

[0052] UE 115 is dispersed throughout the wireless network 100, and each UE may be fixed or mobile. It should be understood that, although in the standards and specifications promulgated by the Third Generation Partnership Project (3GPP), mobile devices are generally referred to as user equipment (UE), those skilled in the art may also refer to such devices as mobile stations (MS), subscriber stations, mobile units, subscriber units, wireless units, remote units, mobile devices, wireless devices, wireless communication devices, remote devices, mobile subscriber stations, access terminals (AT), mobile terminals, wireless terminals, remote terminals, mobile phones, terminals, user agents, mobile clients, clients, gaming devices, augmented reality devices, vehicle component devices / modules, or some other suitable terms. In this document, a "mobile" device or UE does not necessarily need to have the ability to move, and may be stationary. Some non-limiting examples of mobile devices include mobile phones, cellular phones, smart phones, session initiation protocol (SIP) phones, wireless local loop (WLL) stations, laptops, personal computers (PCs), notebooks, netbooks, smartbooks, tablet computers, and personal digital assistants (PDAs). The mobile device may additionally be an "Internet of Things" (IoT) or "Internet of Everything" (IoE) device, such as a car or other vehicle, a satellite radio, a global positioning system (GPS) device, a logistics controller, a drone, a multicopter, a quadcopter, a smart energy or security device, a solar panel or solar array, municipal lighting, water or other infrastructure; industrial automation and enterprise devices; consumer and wearable devices, such as glasses, wearable cameras, smart watches, health or fitness trackers, mammal implantable devices, gesture tracking devices, medical devices, digital audio players (e.g., MP3 players), cameras, game consoles, etc.; and digital home or smart home devices, such as home audio, video and multimedia devices, appliances, sensors, vending machines, smart lighting, home security systems, smart meters, etc. In one aspect, a UE may be a device that includes a universal integrated circuit card (UICC). In another aspect, a UE may be a device that does not include a UICC. In some aspects, a UE that does not include a UICC may also be referred to as an IoE device. Figure 1The UEs 115a-115d are examples of mobile smartphone-type devices accessing the wireless network 100. The UE may also be a machine specifically configured for connected communications, including machine type communications (MTC), enhanced MTC (eMTC), narrowband IoT (NB-IoT), etc. Figure 1 The illustrated UEs 115e - 115k are examples of various machines configured for communications accessing the wireless network 100 .

[0053] A mobile device such as UE 115 is able to communicate with any type of base station, whether macro, pico, femto, relay, etc. Figure 1 In the present invention, lightning (e.g., communication link) indicates wireless transmission between a UE and a serving base station that is a base station designated to serve the UE on a downlink and / or uplink, or a desired transmission between base stations, and backhaul transmission between base stations. In some cases, a UE may operate as a base station or other network node. Backhaul communications between base stations of the wireless network 100 may be performed using wired and / or wireless communication links.

[0054] In operation of the wireless network 100, base stations 105a-105c use 3D beamforming and cooperative spatial techniques (such as coordinated multi-point (CoMP) or multi-connectivity) to serve UEs 115a and 115b. Macro base station 105d performs backhaul communications with base stations 105a-105c and small cell base station 105f. Macro base station 105d also transmits multicast services that are subscribed to and received by UEs 115c and 115d. Such multicast services may include mobile TV or streaming video, or may include other services for providing community information, such as weather emergencies or alerts, such as yellow alerts or gray alerts.

[0055] The wireless network 100 can support communication with ultra-reliable and redundant links for mission-critical devices (e.g., UE 115e as a drone). The redundant communication links with UE 115e include links from macro base stations 105d and 105e and small cell base station 105f. Other machine-type devices such as UE 115f (thermometer), UE 115g (smart meter), and UE 115h (wearable device) can communicate directly with base stations such as small cell base station 105f and macro base station 105e through the wireless network 100, or communicate in a multi-hop configuration by communicating with another user equipment that relays its information to the network, such as UE 115f communicating temperature measurement information to smart meter UE 115g, which is then reported to the network through small cell base station 105f. The wireless network 100 may also provide additional network efficiency through dynamic, low-latency TDD / FDD communications, such as in a vehicle-to-vehicle (V2V) mesh network between UEs 115 1 - 115 k communicating with a macro base station 105 e .

[0056] Figure 2 A block diagram showing a design of a base station 105 and a UE 115 is shown, and the base station 105 and the UE 115 may be Figure 1 For the restricted association scenario (described above), the base station 105 can be Figure 1 The small cell base station 105f in the example, and the UE 115 may be a UE 115c or 115D operating in the service area of the base station 105f, which will be included in the accessible UE list of the small cell base station 105f in order to access the small cell base station 105f. The base station 105 may also be some other type of base station. Figure 2 As shown, the base station 105 may be equipped with antennas 234a through 234t, and the UE 115 may be equipped with antennas 252a through 252r, to facilitate wireless communications.

[0057] At the base station 105, the transmit processor 220 may receive data from the data source 212 and control information from the controller / processor 240. The control information may be for a physical broadcast channel (PBCH), a physical control format indicator channel (PCFICH), a physical hybrid ARQ (automatic repeat request) indicator channel (PHICH), a physical downlink control channel (PDCCH), an enhanced physical downlink control channel (EPDCCH), an MTC physical downlink control channel (MPDCCH), etc. The data may be for a PDSCH, etc. The transmit processor 220 may process (e.g., encode and symbol map) the data and the control information to obtain data symbols and control symbols, respectively. The transmit processor 220 may also generate reference symbols, e.g., for a primary synchronization signal (PSS) and a secondary synchronization signal (SSS) and a cell-specific reference signal. If applicable, the transmit (TX) multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) processor 230 may perform spatial processing (e.g., precoding) on the data symbols, control symbols, and / or reference symbols, and may provide output symbol streams to modulators (mod) 232a to 232t. Each modulator 232 may process a respective output symbol stream (e.g., for OFDM, etc.) to obtain an output sample stream. Each modulator 232 may additionally or alternatively process (e.g., convert to analog, amplify, filter, and upconvert) the output sample stream to obtain a downlink signal. The downlink signals from modulators 232a through 232t may be transmitted via antennas 234a through 234t, respectively.

[0058] At the UE 115, antennas 252a to 252r may receive downlink signals from the base station 105 and may provide received signals to demodulators (DEMODs) 254a to 254r, respectively. Each demodulator 254 may condition (e.g., filter, amplify, downconvert, and digitize) a corresponding received signal to obtain input samples. Each demodulator 254 may further process the input samples (e.g., for OFDM, etc.) to obtain received symbols. A MIMO detector 256 may obtain received symbols from the demodulators 254a to 254r, perform MIMO detection on the received symbols if applicable, and provide detected symbols. A receive processor 258 may process (e.g., demodulate, deinterleave, and decode) the detected symbols, provide decoded data for the UE 115 to a data sink 260, and provide decoded control information to a controller / processor 280.

[0059] On the uplink, at the UE 115, a transmit processor 264 may receive and process data from a data source 262 (e.g., for a physical uplink shared channel (PUSCH)) and control information from a controller / processor 280 (e.g., for a physical uplink control channel (PUCCH)). The transmit processor 264 may also generate reference symbols for a reference signal. The symbols from the transmit processor 264 may be precoded by a TX MIMO processor 266, if applicable, further processed by modulators 254a through 254r (e.g., for SC-FDM, etc.), and transmitted to the base station 105. At the base station 105, the uplink signal from the UE 115 may be received by the antenna 234, processed by the demodulator 232, detected by the MIMO detector 236 (if applicable), and further processed by the receive processor 238 to obtain decoded data and control information transmitted by the UE 115. The receive processor 238 may provide the decoded data to the data sink 239 and the decoded control information to the controller / processor 240.

[0060] The controllers / processors 240 and 280 may direct the operations at the base station 105 and the UE 115, respectively. The controller / processor 240 and / or other processors and modules at the base station 105 and / or the controller / processor 280 and / or other processors and modules at the UE 115 may perform or direct the execution of various processes for the techniques described herein, such as performing or directing Figure 7 and Figure 8 The operations shown in , and / or other processes of the techniques described herein. Memories 242 and 282 may store data and program codes for base station 105 and UE 115, respectively. Scheduler 244 may schedule UEs for data transmission on downlink and / or uplink.

[0061] Wireless communication systems operated by different network operating entities (e.g., network operators) may share spectrum. In some cases, a network operating entity may be configured to use the entire designated shared spectrum for at least a period of time before another network operating entity uses the entire designated shared spectrum at a different time period. Therefore, in order to allow network operating entities to use the entire designated shared spectrum and to mitigate interfering communications between different network operating entities, certain resources (e.g., time) may be divided and allocated to different network operating entities for certain types of communications.

[0062] For example, a network operating entity may be allocated certain time resources that are reserved by the network operating entity for dedicated communications using the entire shared spectrum. A network operating entity may also be allocated other time resources where the entity is given a higher priority than other network operating entities to communicate using the shared spectrum. These time resources prioritized for use by the network operating entity may be utilized on an opportunistic basis by other network operating entities if the prioritized network operating entity does not utilize these resources. Additional time resources may be allocated to any network operator for use on an opportunistic basis.

[0063] Access to the shared spectrum and arbitration of time resources between different network operating entities can be centrally controlled by a separate entity, autonomously determined by a predefined arbitration scheme, or dynamically determined based on interactions between the network operator's wireless nodes.

[0064] In some cases, UE 115 and base station 105 may operate in a shared radio spectrum band, which may include licensed or unlicensed (e.g., contention-based) spectrum. In the unlicensed frequency portion of the shared radio spectrum band, UE 115 or base station 105 may traditionally perform a media sensing process to compete for access to the spectrum. For example, UE 115 or base station 105 may perform a listen-before-talk (LBT) process, such as a clear channel assessment (CCA), before communicating to determine whether the shared channel is available. CCA may include an energy detection process to determine whether there are any other active transmissions. For example, a device may infer that a change in a received signal strength indicator (RSSI) of a power meter indicates that the channel is occupied. Specifically, a signal power concentrated in a certain bandwidth and exceeding a predetermined noise floor may indicate another wireless transmitter. CCA may also include detection of a specific sequence indicating channel use. For example, another device may send a specific preamble before sending a data sequence. In some cases, the LBT process may include the wireless node adjusting its own backoff window based on the amount of energy detected on the channel and / or acknowledgement / negative acknowledgement (ACK / NACK) feedback for its own transmitted packets as a proxy for collisions.

[0065] refer to Figure 3 , an illustrative example of a wireless communication system is depicted and generally designated 300. The wireless communication system 300 includes a base station 105 and a UE 115. Although Figure 3 The example shows a single base station 105 and a single UE 115, but in other examples, the wireless communication system 300 may include multiple base stations 105, multiple UEs 115, one or more other devices, or a combination thereof.

[0066] During operation, the UE 115 may receive the control information 302. For example, the base station 105 may transmit the control information 302 to the UE 115 via one or more configuration messages 320. The UE 115 may store the control information 302, such as in the memory 282.

[0067] The base station 105 may schedule uplink transmissions 332 for the UE 115. For example, the base station 105 may transmit a scheduling message 324 to the UE 115 to schedule the uplink transmissions 332. The uplink transmissions 332 include multiple repetitions 334 of the same uplink channel, such as a physical uplink shared channel (PUSCH). In an example, the uplink transmissions 332 correspond to a single PUSCH transmission, where the repetitions 334 span multiple symbols in one or more time slots.

[0068] For example, in some wireless communication data protocols, data may be first sent and then resent one or more times to increase the reliability of the data. As used herein, "repetition" may refer to the initial transmission of data and the retransmission of data. For illustration, data that is initially sent and then resent once may correspond to two repetitions. As another example, data that is initially sent and then resent three times may correspond to four repetitions.

[0069] The uplink transmission 332 also includes a DMRS 336. The base station 105 can be configured to demodulate one or more repetitions 334 of the uplink transmission 332 based on the DMRS 336. In some examples, the DMRS 336 is associated with a DMRS sharing pattern 310. In this case, the DMRS 336 can be "shared" in multiple repetitions 334 based on the DMRS sharing pattern 310 (e.g., the base station 105 uses the repetitions 334 including the DMRS 336 to demodulate the repetitions 334 that do not include the DMRS 336). In general, the sharing pattern involves how to share one or more DMRSs between various transmissions (e.g., for demodulation of data resource elements of a transmission that may or may not include a DMRS, and uses the DMRS of another transmission). According to the DMRS sharing pattern, one or more DMRSs can be sent within the physical resources of one or more first uplink transmissions or repetitions of an uplink channel, which are used to demodulate data of other uplink transmissions or repetitions of the uplink channel. In some specific instances, a "DMRS sharing pattern" (such as DMRS sharing pattern 310) may indicate an ordering of one or more uplink repetitions of an uplink channel that includes a DMRS, while a set of one or more other repetitions of the uplink channel may not have a DMRS. In one or more repetitions that do not include a DMRS, demodulation may use the DMRS of the one or more repetitions that include the DMRS. Additionally or alternatively, the DMRS sharing pattern may indicate one or more other uplink repetitions of an uplink channel that do not include a DMRS and will be demodulated based on the DMRS of other uplink transmissions, which may be earlier or later in time than the uplink channel that does not include a DMRS. The sharing pattern may be static or dynamic. In some cases, the sharing pattern may evolve during communication operations. The sharing pattern may be pre-provided or determined during operation based on the desired system operation. The sharing pattern may be stored in a memory of the communication device.

[0070] In some aspects of the present disclosure, one or both of the base station 105 and the UE 115 are configured to determine the DMRS sharing pattern 310 based on one or more parameters 308 of the uplink transmission 332. For illustration, the control information 302 may indicate a mapping of the uplink transmission parameters 304 to the DMRS sharing pattern 306. Figure 3 In the example of , uplink transmission parameters 304 include one or more parameters 308 , and DMRS sharing pattern 306 includes DMRS sharing pattern 310 .

[0071] In some implementations, the base station 105 may provide an indication of the DMRS sharing mode 310 to the UE 115. For example, the base station 105 may be configured to transmit a DMRS sharing configuration parameter 328 indicating the DMRS sharing mode 310 to the UE 115. As illustrative examples, the DMRS sharing configuration parameter 328 may be indicated by the base station via radio resource control (RRC) configuration signaling, downlink control information (DCI) signaling, or media access control (MAC) control element (MAC-CE) signaling. In some other examples, the UE 115 is configured to dynamically determine the DMRS sharing configuration parameter 328.

[0072] To further illustrate, in some examples, the base station 105 and the UE 115 are configured to determine the DMRS sharing pattern 310 by identifying one or more parameters 308 of the uplink transmission and by using the one or more parameters 308 as a lookup to the control information 302 to identify the DMRS sharing pattern 310. In this example, the UE 115 is configured to transmit the uplink transmission 332 to the base station 105 in accordance with the DMRS sharing pattern 310, and the base station 105 is configured to receive (e.g., demodulate) the uplink transmission 332 in accordance with the DMRS sharing pattern 310. Thus, the control information 302 can enable the base station 105 and the UE 115 to "agree" on a particular DMRS sharing pattern 310 for transmitting and receiving the uplink transmission 332 (e.g., without an explicit indication of the DMRS sharing pattern 310 via the DMRS sharing configuration parameter 328). In another example, the DMRS sharing configuration parameter 328 can be used as a lookup to the control information 302 to determine the DMRS sharing pattern 310.

[0073] In one example, the one or more parameters 308 include a configured number 326 of repetitions 334. In some implementations, the scheduling message 324 indicates the configured number 326. The configured number 326 may indicate a "maximum" or "nominal" number of repetitions for the uplink transmission 332 that may be reduced in certain circumstances.

[0074] Alternatively or additionally, one or more parameters 308 may include a DMRS sharing factor 330. As used herein, a DMRS sharing factor (such as DMRS sharing factor 330) may refer to a ratio of the total number of uplink repetitions of an uplink channel to the number of uplink repetitions of an uplink channel that does not include a DMRS. Thus, the DMRS sharing factor 330 may indicate the number of repetitions of the shared DMRS. In some examples, the base station 105 is configured to transmit an indication of the DMRS sharing factor 330 to the UE 115, and the UE 115 is configured to receive an indication of the DMRS sharing factor 330 from the base station 105.

[0075] To illustrate, Figure 4 Different examples 410, 420, 430, and 440 of uplink transmissions 332 are depicted. Figure 4 In the example, each instance 410, 420, 430 and 440 of the uplink transmission 332 includes eight repetitions 334 (in Figure 4 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7 and 8). In addition, Figure 4 , time can advance to the right (e.g., where repeat 1 is sent before repeat 2, and repeat 2 is sent before repeat 3, and so on).

[0076] Example 410 depicts a DMRS sharing pattern 310 with two repetitions of DMRS 336, four repetitions without DMRS, and two additional repetitions of DMRS. In some implementations according to example 410, the base station 105 may be configured to demodulate repetition 1 using the DMRS of repetition 1, demodulate repetition 2 using the DMRS of repetition 2, and demodulate repetitions 3-6 using one or both of the DMRS of repetitions 1 and 2.

[0077] Example 420 depicts a DMRS sharing pattern 310 that alternates repetitions of DMRS and repetitions without DMRS. In some implementations according to example 420, base station 105 may be configured to demodulate repetition 1 using the DMRS of repetition 1, demodulate repetition 2 using the DMRS of repetition 1, demodulate repetition 3 using the DMRS of repetition 3, and demodulate repetition 2 using the DMRS of repetition 3, and so on.

[0078] In addition, in some examples, the DMRS sharing pattern can be repeated from the first set of repetitions 334 to the second set of repetitions 334. Repeating the DMRS sharing pattern can reduce the amount of information (e.g., bits) of the control information 302. To illustrate, in example 420, the two repeated patterns 422 can be repeated four times across the repetitions 334. In this example, the DMRS sharing pattern 310 can be based on a number of repetitions (e.g., two) that is less than the configured number 326 (e.g., eight), and the DMRS sharing pattern 310 can be repeated across the configured number 326 of repetitions 334 of the uplink transmission 332.

[0079] Example 430 illustrates further aspects of the DMRS sharing pattern 310. In example 430, repetition 1 includes a DMRS that can be used to demodulate repetitions 1-3.

[0080] Figure 4It is shown that a particular number of repetitions of uplink transmission 332 may be associated with different values of DMRS sharing factor 330. To illustrate, in each of examples 410, 420, and 430, DMRS sharing factor 330 corresponds to 4, while in example 440, DMRS sharing factor 330 corresponds to 2.

[0081] Figure 4 It is also shown that a particular DMRS sharing factor 330 and a particular configured number of repetitions 326 can be associated with multiple different DMRS sharing patterns. For illustration, for a particular DMRS sharing factor 330 (2) and a particular configured number of repetitions 326 (8), examples 410, 420, and 430 correspond to different DMRS sharing patterns. In some examples, one or both of the base station 105 or the UE 115 are configured to select the DMRS sharing pattern 310 from a plurality of DMRS sharing patterns, such as the plurality of DMRS sharing patterns of examples 410, 420, and 430. The UE 115 can be configured to dynamically select the DMRS sharing pattern 310 from a plurality of DMRS sharing patterns, such as the plurality of DMRS sharing patterns of examples 410, 420, and 430.

[0082] Figure 5 Additional examples 510, 520, 530, and 540 of uplink transmissions 332 are shown. Figure 5 In the example, each instance 510, 520, 530 and 540 of the uplink transmission 332 includes four repetitions 334 (in Figure 4 In the figure, it is shown as repetition 1, 2, 3 and 4). In addition, Figure 5 , time may advance to the right (e.g., where repetition 1 is sent before repetition 2, and repetition 2 is sent before repetition 3, etc.). Examples 510, 520, 530, 540 illustrate different DMRS sharing patterns 310 for a particular DMRS sharing factor 330(2) and a particular number of configurations 326(4).

[0083] Reference again Figure 3, the one or more parameters 308 may include an actual number 350 of repetitions 334 that is less than the configured number 326. To illustrate, in some cases, a puncturing event may occur (e.g., after the uplink transmission 332 is scheduled via the scheduling message 324). The puncturing event may be associated with a modification of the uplink transmission 332 from the configured number 326 of repetitions to the actual number 350 of repetitions. As a non-limiting illustrative example, if the configured number 326 of repetitions 334 is 8, and the puncturing event cancels two of the repetitions 334, then the actual number 350 of repetitions 334 corresponds to 6. As another non-limiting illustrative example, if the configured number 326 of repetitions 334 is 8, and the puncturing event cancels one of the repetitions 334, then the actual number 350 of repetitions 334 corresponds to 7.

[0084] To further illustrate, Figure 6 A puncturing event is shown associated with an example 410 of an uplink transmission 332. The puncturing event is associated with a modification of the uplink transmission 332 from a configured number 326 of repetitions 334 to an actual number 350 of repetitions 334 that is less than the configured number 326. For illustration, the configured number 326 may correspond to 8, while the actual number 350 may correspond to 6 (if two repetitions are eliminated) or 7 (if one repetition is eliminated).

[0085] In example 610, UE 115 is configured to apply the same DMRS sharing pattern to the remaining repetitions (e.g., regardless of the actual number 350) of uplink transmission 332. For example, after repetitions 3 and 8 are cancelled, the other repetitions remain "as is" in uplink transmission 332 (compared to example 410).

[0086] In example 620, the UE 115 is configured to re-determine the DMRS sharing pattern 310 based on the actual number 350 and in response to detecting the cancelled repetition of the uplink transmission. To illustrate, before detecting the puncturing event, the UE 115 may select the DMRS sharing pattern 310 associated with the configured number 326 of 8 (such as the DMRS sharing pattern 310 depicted in example 410). The UE 115 may send (or prepare to send) repetitions 1 and 2 based on the DMRS sharing pattern associated with the configured number 326 of 8.

[0087] In some cases, the UE 115 may detect a puncturing event associated with the cancellation of repetition 3. Upon detecting the cancellation of repetition 3, the UE 115 may determine that five repetitions 622 of the uplink transmission 332 remain after the cancelled repetition 3. The UE 115 may be configured to access the control information 302 to redetermine the DMRS sharing pattern 310 by identifying the DMRS sharing pattern associated with the actual number 350 of 5. The UE 115 may be configured to apply the redetermined DMRS sharing pattern 310 to the remaining repetitions 622 of the uplink transmission 332.

[0088] Reference again Figure 3 In some examples, the one or more parameters 308 include a number 354 of configured DMRS symbols 338 for each repetition 334 of the uplink transmission 332. In some implementations, the base station 105 may indicate the configured number to the UE 115, such as via a scheduling message 324. The configured number 354 may indicate a “maximum” or “nominal” number of DMRS symbols 338 for each repetition 334 of the uplink transmission 332, which may be reduced in certain circumstances (e.g., based on a symbol reduction event).

[0089] In some examples, the number of DMRS sharing patterns 306 available for uplink transmission 332 indicated by control information 302 is based on configured number 354. To illustrate, in some examples, control information 302 may include one number of DMRS sharing patterns 306 for a first value of configured number 354, and may include another number of DMRS sharing patterns 306 for a second value of configured number 354. As illustrative, non-limiting examples, if configured number 354 indicates a maximum of one DMRS symbol 338 per repetition 334 or a maximum of two DMRS symbols 338 per repetition 334, control information 302 may indicate four DMRS sharing patterns 306 or eight DMRS sharing patterns 306, respectively.

[0090] Alternatively or additionally, the DMRS sharing factor 330 for the uplink transmission 332 (or a set of DMRS sharing factors 330 that may be used for the uplink transmission 332) may be based on the configured number 354. As an illustrative, non-limiting example, if the configured number 354 indicates a maximum of one DMRS symbol 338 per repetition 334 or a maximum of two DMRS symbols 338 per repetition 334, the control information 302 may indicate a first set of values (e.g., one, two, or four) that may be used for the DMRS sharing factor 330 or a second set of values (e.g., one, two, four, or eight) that may be used for the DMRS sharing factor 330, respectively.

[0091] Additionally, in some examples, one or more parameters 308 include an actual number 356 of DMRS symbols 338 for each repetition 334 of the uplink transmission 332. In some implementations, the actual number 356 is less than the configured number 354 (e.g., due to a symbol reduction event occurring after the uplink transmission 332 is scheduled).

[0092] In some examples, the number of DMRS sharing patterns 306 available for uplink transmission 332 indicated by the control information 302 is based on the actual number 356. To illustrate, in some examples, the control information 302 may include one number of DMRS sharing patterns 306 for a first value of the actual number 356, and may include another number of DMRS sharing patterns 306 for a second value of the actual number 356. As illustrative, non-limiting examples, if the actual number 356 indicates one DMRS symbol 338 per repetition 334 or two DMRS symbols 338 per repetition 334, the control information 302 may indicate four DMRS sharing patterns 306 or eight DMRS sharing patterns 306, respectively.

[0093] Alternatively or additionally, the DMRS sharing factor 330 for the uplink transmission 332 (or a set of DMRS sharing factors 330 that may be used for the uplink transmission 332) may be based on the actual number 356. As illustrative, non-limiting examples, if the actual number 356 indicates a maximum of one DMRS symbol 338 per repetition 334 or a maximum of two DMRS symbols 338 per repetition 334, the control information 302 may indicate a first set of values (e.g., 1, 2, or 4) that may be used for the DMRS sharing factor 330 or a second set of values (e.g., 1, 2, 4, or 8) that may be used for the DMRS sharing factor 330, respectively.

[0094] The one or more parameters 308 may include a repetition type 352 for the uplink transmission 332. In some examples, one or more of the base station 105 or the UE 115 is configured to determine the repetition type 352 from among a plurality of repetition types and determine the DMRS sharing pattern 310 based on the repetition type 352. For illustration, the plurality of repetition types may include a first repetition type associated with a maximum of one repetition per time slot and may also include a second repetition type associated with one or more repetitions per time slot. The first repetition type may correspond to a PUSCH repetition type "A" specified by the 5G NR wireless communication protocol, and the second repetition type may correspond to a PUSCH repetition type "B" specified by the 5G NR wireless communication protocol.

[0095] In addition, note that one or more aspects of the present invention can be performed on a per-repetition type basis. For example, the control information 302 may include a first version of a DMRS sharing mode 306 for a first repetition type, and may also include a second version of a DMRS sharing mode 306 for a second repetition type. In one example, the UE 115 is configured to report to the base station 105 a first capability of supporting DMRS sharing of the first repetition type and a second capability of supporting DMRS sharing of the second repetition type.

[0096] Reference Figures 3 to 6 One or more aspects described may improve efficiency or performance of a wireless communication system. For example, by determining a DMRS sharing pattern 310 for an uplink transmission 332 based on one or more parameters 308 of the uplink transmission 332, the DMRS sharing pattern 310 may be "customized" or "tailored" for a particular uplink transmission 332. As a result, uplink transmissions of different parameters may be associated with different DMRS sharing patterns, which may improve efficiency or performance in some cases compared to certain other techniques that use a common DMRS sharing pattern for uplink transmissions of different parameters.

[0097] Although certain examples of DMRS sharing have been described with reference to uplink transmissions 332 from UE 115 to base station 105, in some other examples, one or more examples described herein may be applied to one or more other transmissions (alternatively or in addition to uplink transmissions 332). For example, base station 105 may transmit (e.g., to UE 115) a downlink transmission associated with a DMRS sharing pattern in DMRS sharing pattern 306. As another example, UE 115 may transmit (e.g., to another UE 115) a sidelink transmission associated with a DMRS sharing pattern in DMRS sharing pattern 306.
