[0015] The present disclosure is described with reference to the accompanying drawings. The accompanying drawings are not drawn to scale, and these drawings are provided only for illustrating the present disclosure. Several aspects of the present disclosure are described below with reference to example applications for illustration. Many specific details, relationships and methods are set forth to provide an understanding of the present disclosure. The present disclosure is not limited by the order of the actions or events illustrated, because some actions can occur in different orders and / or simultaneously with other actions or events. In addition, not all illustrated actions or events are necessary to implement the method according to the selected present disclosure.

[0016] As highlighted above, Mode 1 in NR V2X involves direct communications between vehicles, however, these communications are managed by the cellular infrastructure, which selects the subchannels and time slots or radio resources for each V2V transmission. In contrast, Mode 2 in NR V2X does not require support from the cellular infrastructure, and the vehicle autonomously selects the subchannels and time slots or radio resources for its V2V transmissions. Within this framework, the 3GPP standard defines a distributed semi-persistent scheduling scheme that all vehicles must implement.

[0017] C-V2X supports 10MHz channels and 20MHz channels. The channel is divided into 1ms subframes in time, and each subframe is divided into resource blocks (RBs) of 180KHz. The standard defines a subchannel as a group of RBs in the same subframe. The subchannel is used to transmit data and control information. Such data is transmitted through the physical sidelink shared channel (PSSCH) in a transport block (TB), and the control information is transmitted through the physical sidelink control channel (PSCCH) in a sidelink control information (SCI) message. A TB contains a complete packet and may occupy one or several subchannels. Each TB has an SCI associated with it, and both are transmitted in the same subframe. The SCI occupies a configurable number of RBs and a configurable number of OFDM symbols, and includes information such as the modulation and coding scheme (MCS) used to transmit the TB, the RBs occupied by the TB, and the resource reservation period (RRP) for the semi-persistent scheduling scheme. The resource reservation period refers to the periodicity used by the vehicle to transmit its packets, and the period or interval is specified in multiples of 100ms (eg, 100ms, 200ms, ... 1000ms). The information on the SCI is valuable, so the SCI must be received correctly in order to receive and decode the TB.

[0018] In Mode 2, the vehicle autonomously selects its subchannels and time slots using a sensing-based semi-persistent scheduling (SPS) scheme, where the vehicle reserves the selected subchannels and time slots for a number of consecutive packet transmissions determined by the reselection counter value. After this number of transmissions, a new resource or subchannel must be selected and reserved. The process by which a vehicle selects and reserves resources is a multi-step process, which can be referred to in Figure 1 To understand. Please note that Figure 1 Technically the LTE two-step procedure is shown, but for the purpose of understanding the essence it is sufficient for explanation purposes. At a high level, in the sensing step (or Figure 1 In the sensing window shown in FIG. 1 , the UE listens to the channel, ie, listens to the channel information (SCI of other vehicles), to see which resources have been reserved. In the selection step, candidate resources are identified and then selected or reserved.

[0019] More specifically, whenever a new resource is to be selected, the vehicle may reserve the resource during a time period referred to as a selection window, e.g. Figure 1As shown. During this time period, the vehicle identifies candidate single subframe resources (CSRs) to be reserved. A CSR is a group of adjacent subchannels within the same subframe where a packet or SCI and a TB are located. If "T" is the start time of the time window (i.e., the selection window) in which a new resource selection must be made, the vehicle senses all packets in the previous sensing window including the 1000 subframes before T. The vehicle creates a list including all CSRs (i.e., candidate CSRs) in the sensing window, except for CSRs that meet two criteria: (1) the resource is indicated in the SCI received from another vehicle (indicating that the other vehicle will simultaneously utilize the resource), and (2) the average reference signal received power (RSRP) measured on the RB used to transmit the TB associated with the SCI of the other vehicle is greater than the RSRP threshold. If both conditions are met, the vehicle will exclude this particular CSR as a candidate CSR. The vehicle can then perform resource selection for transmissions from the identified candidate resources (CSRs) in the selection window.

[0020] As discussed above, in those cases where periodic resource reservation is performed, when a vehicle UE initiates a transmission on the selected resources, it does not monitor the sidelink channel due to half-duplex system constraints, and therefore if another vehicle UE selects the same periodic resources for its own sidelink transmission, such competing sidelink transmissions may continuously conflict with each other. Figure 2 Such an undesirable collision situation is illustrated in , where UE 1 and UE 2 correspond to two different vehicles that transmit on the same selected time-frequency resources (ie, the same subchannel at the same time).

[0021] like Figure 2 As shown, a first UE 202 (e.g., UE 1 corresponding to a first vehicle) has a first periodic resource reservation 204 at time t1, and a second UE 206 (e.g., UE 2 corresponding to a second vehicle) has a second periodic resource reservation 208 occupying the same time-frequency resources as the first periodic resource reservation 204. Figure 2 In the example of , the two resource reservations 204, 208 have the same periodicity 210, and therefore not only is there a conflict at time t1, but the data conflict continues at times t2, t3, t4, etc. In view of the recognized problems highlighted above, the present disclosure provides circuits, methods, and non-transitory computer-readable media for non-continuous periodic transmission that address the problem.

[0022] In one aspect, a UE (referred to as an evaluation UE) intentionally does not transmit during one of the scheduled, reserved time periods (which may be referred to as a scheduled non-contiguous time period) and instead performs channel monitoring on periodically reserved resources. If during the monitoring function, an SCI of another UE (referred to as a contending UE) is detected, then some form of corrective action is selectively performed, where the form of the corrective action is based on a resource reservation period (RPP) and, in some cases, on a data priority of the contending UE. For example, in one aspect where data priority is not a factor or consideration, the form of the RRP-based corrective action may depend on: (1) whether the RRPs of the evaluation UE and the contending UE are the same; (2) whether the RRP of the contending UE is an integer multiple of the RRP of the evaluation UE; or (3) whether the RRP of the evaluation UE is an integer multiple of the RRP of the contending UE. Figures 3A to 5 The three conditions highlighted above are shown to help understand how corrective actions differ based on relative RRP.

[0023] Figure 3A Condition (1) above is shown, where the evaluation UE 302 (e.g., UE 1) and the competing UE 304 (e.g., UE2) have reserved the same time-frequency resources (e.g., resources 306 and 308 are the same). In addition, in this example, the reserved resources 306, 308 have the same periodicity 310, which means that the RRP of resources 306, 308 is the same. Therefore, if no corrective action is taken, a data collision will occur and neither UE 302 nor UE 304 will detect the data collision. In this example, UE 302 is the evaluation UE and chooses not to transmit at a time period (i.e., t3), but instead performs a monitoring operation 312 of the channel at this time period. By not transmitting at an otherwise scheduled time period (e.g., a scheduled non-continuous time period), the evaluation UE 302 is performing a non-continuous periodic transmission. If the SCI of the competing UE is detected and decoded during the monitoring time period t3, and the SCI indicates the same time-frequency resource with the same RRP, the evaluation UE 302 stops transmitting on the conflicting resource and instead initiates a reselection procedure, wherein the UE 302 performs the above-mentioned Figure 1 The two-part sensing and selection process discussed above is used to schedule other resources. Figure 3A As can be seen at 314 of , the transmission at time t4 is not performed, but a reselection procedure is initiated.

[0024] The above exemplary discussion ignores the issue of data priority. Figure 3AIn the example of , the evaluation UE 302 interrupts the transmission at t4, regardless of whether the priority of the data transmission of the evaluation UE 302 is higher or lower than the priority of the data transmission of the competing UE 304. In one aspect, the evaluation UE 302 performs a monitoring operation 312 at t3 and decodes an SCI indicating a conflicting transmission with a competing UE having the same RRP. Then, the evaluation UE 302 also evaluates the data transmission priority of the competing UE 304, for example, by evaluating the decoded SCI of the competing UE 304, and if the data transmission priority of the evaluation UE 302 is higher than the priority of the data transmission of the competing UE 304, the evaluation UE 302 does not interrupt the transmission. In this case, despite the conflict, due to the higher data priority, the evaluation UE 302 does not stop the transmission, but continues the transmission.

[0025] In one aspect, if each UE operates according to the present disclosure, the competing UE 304 sometimes operates as an evaluation UE and in this case will detect the collision and higher data priority of other competing UEs and in response will interrupt transmission and initiate a reselection procedure.

[0026] Therefore, as above combined Figure 3A As emphasized, the present disclosure contemplates a UE or one or more processors in a UE, which, when executing instructions, are configured to perform non-continuous periodic communication 350 with another UE, such as Figure 3B As shown. The process associated with performing non-continuous periodic communication 350 can be a function of an apparatus including the function of one or more processors in the evaluation UE, can be a method, and / or can be a non-transitory computer-readable medium containing instructions, which, when executed by one or more processors, produce the functions described herein. At 352, one or more evaluation UE processors are configured to schedule resources for non-continuous periodic transmission. As emphasized above, this scheduling looks similar to the scheduling of UE1 302, where UE1 302 schedules non-continuous time periods (e.g., Figure 3A The t3) schedules monitoring operations that were originally used for data transmission. This scheduling includes the reservation of periodic time-frequency resources. Further details of this scheduling will be discussed below. Such scheduling details are listed in the SCI and may include periodicity, data priority, and other parameters that characterize non-continuous periodic communication.

[0027] Still refer to Figure 3B, one or more UE processors perform monitoring operations according to one of a variety of methods. In one option, the monitoring operation is scheduled according to a random selection with a probability (A), which may be preconfigured or may be a function of other criteria such as data priority. In another aspect, the selection of the timing of the monitoring process may follow a predefined pattern, such that the nature of the discontinuous transmission itself is periodic. Further details of how and when to perform such monitoring will be discussed in more detail below.

[0028] During the monitoring operation at 354, one or more UE processors monitor the channel for SCI of other transmitting UEs (i.e., competing UEs) at 356. If no other transmissions are detected, or if SCI is detected but does not include reserved resources that will conflict with the evaluation UE when decoded (no at 356), non-continuous periodic transmissions continue at 358 until the next scheduled monitoring event. However, if it is detected that the SCI of the competing UE does conflict with the reserved resources of the evaluation UE (yes at 356), one or more UE processors (i.e., evaluation UEs) perform corrective actions at 360.

[0029] In one aspect, the corrective action taken at 360 includes discontinuing the periodic transmission of the evaluation UE and then initiating a reselection process, wherein the UE performs the above combined Figure 1 The two-step sensing and selection procedure discussed above. In another aspect, the corrective action may be selective, where interruption of data transmission depends on relative data priority levels or some other criteria. For example, when decoding the SCI of a competing UE, if the scheduled resources conflict, but the relative data priorities of the evaluation UE and the competing UE satisfy some predetermined relationship, then the evaluation UE will not interrupt transmission despite the detection of the conflict. For example, if the data priority of the evaluation UE is greater than the data priority of the competing UE, then the transmission may continue. Alternatively, other criteria may be employed to selectively perform the corrective action at 360.

[0030] As described above, the type of corrective action taken by the evaluation UE may differ based on the RRP of the evaluation UE and the competing UE. Option (2) corresponds to the case where the RRP of the competing UE is an integer multiple of that of the evaluation UE (e.g., if the evaluation UE's periodicity is 100 ms, then the competing UE's periodicity is 100 ms × "N", where N is an integer), and Figure 4 As shown in Figure 4 As shown, competing UE 404 performs periodic transmissions that exhibit a period that is an integer multiple of the periodic transmissions of evaluation UE 402. In this example, the integer is 2, so evaluation UE 402 transmits data twice as often as competing UE 404. Figure 4As can be seen in , in this case, no collision will occur for each evaluation UE transmission, but a collision will occur for each competing UE transmission. In this example, the collision occurs at t1, but not at t2. When the evaluation UE 402 interrupts the transmission at t3 and performs the monitoring operation 410 instead, the evaluation UE 402 decodes the SCI of the competing UE 404 and finds that the RRP it has is an integer multiple of the evaluation UE RRP (e.g., 100ms compared to 200ms). At this point, the evaluation UE can select several different options for its corrective action. In one aspect, the evaluation UE only interrupts those transmissions during the conflict time period (e.g., 412 and 414) and continues to transmit during other non-conflicting time periods. In this case, the evaluation UE 402 does not initiate a reselection procedure, but only skips the transmission on the conflicting resources. Alternatively, the evaluation UE 402 may choose to initiate a reselection procedure. In another alternative aspect, after identifying this condition, the evaluation UE 402 may use other criteria to decide whether to skip the conflicting resource time periods 412, 414 or initiate a reselection. For example, if the data transmission priority of UE 402 is evaluated as "high" (e.g., above a predefined threshold), reselection may be initiated. Alternatively, if the priority is "low" according to some predetermined criteria or threshold, reselection may be initiated. Any other substantial criteria may be employed, and the present disclosure may take these criteria into account.

[0031] As emphasized above, if condition (3) exists, and the RRP of the evaluation UE is an integer multiple of the RRP of the competing UEs, the situation looks like Figure 5 .like Figure 5 As shown, both the evaluation UE 502 and the contention UE 504 are performing periodic transmissions, and such scheduling will cause conflicts due to the occupation of some of the same time-frequency resources. In this case, the evaluation UE 502 will experience conflicts at each transmission, while some partial transmissions of the contention UE 504 will experience conflicts (based on integer multiples of RRP). When the evaluation UE 502 performs monitoring operation 508 instead of data transmission at t3 and discovers the problem via the SCI of the contention UE, the evaluation UE 502 may choose to interrupt the transmission and instead initiate a reselection process. Alternatively, when the condition is detected, the UE may choose to send a message to the contention UE 504, requesting the contention UE 504 to skip the conflicting resources in a specific period where there is a conflict. In another alternative, the evaluation UE 502 may consider its data priority and / or the data priority of the contention UE 504 when deciding which corrective actions to take in such cases. For example, if the data transmission priority of the contention UE is "high", the evaluation UE 502 may choose to interrupt the transmission and initiate a reselection procedure instead of requesting the contention UE 504 to skip the transmission in the conflict time period.

[0032] In summary, Figure 6 2 shows the variations in corrective actions based on three different relationships between the RRP of the evaluating UE and the RRP of competing UEs. Figure 6 Functions performed by one or more processors of the evaluation UE are shown. As shown in Figure 3, when the query at 356 whether SCI is detected in the reserved resources of the evaluation UE is answered affirmatively (yes at 356), corrective action 360 is performed. Figure 6 Provides more details on the corrective actions that may need to be taken depending on the RRP relationship between the evaluating UE and competing UEs.

[0033] Initially, the processor or processors of the evaluating UE compare its RRP with the RRP of the competing UE via its decoded SCI. If the RRPs are the same (yes at 662), each transmission of each UE will collide, such as Figure 3A As shown. In one aspect, at 664, the evaluation UE checks whether its data priority is lower than the data priority of the competing UE. If the RRP is not the same (No at 664), then at 666, the evaluation UE may choose not to take further corrective action. This may reflect the situation where the evaluation UE has much higher priority data than the competing UE, and if the competing UE is also performing non-continuous periodic transmission, it will detect a conflict, stop transmission, and perform reselection. If it is determined that the data priority of the evaluation UE is lower than the data priority of the competing UE ("Yes" at 664), the evaluation UE stops transmission and performs a reselection procedure at 668. It should be noted that the analysis of data priority at 664 is optional (as shown by the dotted line), and optionally, if the conclusion at 662 is affirmative (Yes), the evaluation UE can proceed directly to 668, interrupt transmission, and perform reselection.

[0034] Still refer to Figure 6 If the RRPs of the evaluation UE and the competing UE are not the same (No at 662), then at 670 it is determined whether the RRP of the competing UE is an integer multiple of the evaluation UE. If the RRPs are the same (Yes at 670), then there is Figure 4 The situation shown in FIG. 4 is shown in FIG. 4 , and the evaluating UE queries whether its data priority is higher than the data priority of the competing UE at 672. If the evaluating UE data priority is greater (yes at 672), no corrective action is taken at 674. That is, although there is an obvious data conflict at 412 and 414, as shown in FIG. Figure 4As shown, however, since the evaluation UE's data priority is high enough according to some predetermined criteria, the evaluation UE may continue to transmit. If the competing UE is also performing non-continuous periodic transmission, the competing UE may detect this condition and since the competing UE has a lower data priority, the competing UE may stop transmitting and perform reselection. If the query at 672 is negative (No at 672), the evaluation UE may select one of two different options. In one case, such as Figure 4 As shown, the evaluation UE may stop transmission only on the conflicting resources at 676, where resources 412 and 414 are cancelled, but continue transmission on other evaluation UE resources. On the other hand, if the evaluation UE data priority is not "high" according to some predefined criteria, the evaluation UE interrupts all data transmission and initiates a reselection process at 678. Likewise, the data priority analysis at 672 may be optional, as shown by the dashed line.

[0035] Still refer to Figure 6 If the query result at 670 is negative (No at 670), another query is made at 680 to determine whether the RRP of the evaluation UE is an integer multiple of the competing UE. If so (Yes at 680), the situation is as follows Figure 5 As shown. Under these conditions, the evaluation UE has two available options, where at 682, the evaluation UE stops transmitting and performs reselection, or at 684 the evaluation UE sends a message to the competing UE to skip those transmissions associated with the conflicting resources. However, if the query at 680 is answered negatively (No at 680), there is a situation where the RRPs of the evaluation UE and the competing UE are relatively prime. For example, this situation exists if the RRP of the evaluation UE is 30ms and the RRP of the competing UE is 100ms. In another alternative, if the RRP of the competing UE is 0, this means that the competing UE only uses the resources once and does not perform periodic transmissions. In this case, no corrective action is taken at 674.

[0036] In Figure 3 to Figure 5 In the example provided in , only a single resource set or resource block is scheduled in each transmission period. In an alternative aspect, multiple non-contiguous resource sets or resource blocks may be scheduled for periodic transmission by the UE. Fig. 7A , where a first UE 1 702 and a second UE 2 704 are performing periodic transmissions, where multiple non-contiguous time-frequency resource sets or resource blocks are scheduled for transmission in each transmission period. For example, the first UE 1 702 has a first resource block 706 and a second resource block 708, while the second UE 2 has a first resource block 710 and a second resource block 712 scheduled in each transmission period. Fig. 7AAs shown, according to the scheduling, the first resource blocks 706 and 710 of UE 702 and UE 704 do not conflict, but the second resource blocks 708 and 712 conflict.

[0037] In one aspect, during the third time period 714, the first UE1 702 does not transmit, but instead performs a monitoring operation 716 in which the first UE listens to the channel for the SCI of other competing UEs. In this case, UE1 702 detects the SCI of UE2 704, decodes it, and determines that the second resource blocks 708, 712 conflict and therefore corrective action must be taken. In one aspect, as Fig. 7A As shown, the first UE1 702 (ie, the evaluation UE) stops all further transmissions on all reserved resources, which in this case correspond to the two resource blocks 706, 708, and performs a reselection procedure. Figure 7B As shown, in a similar situation where only a portion of the scheduled resources collide (i.e., resource blocks 708, 712 collide, but resource blocks 706, 710 do not collide), the evaluation UE 702 interrupts only the transmission on the collided resources in a subsequent transmission cycle and optionally performs a reselection procedure only for the collided resources.

[0038] exist FIG. 7A to FIG. 7B In the example of , the evaluation UE 702 performs its monitoring operation on each resource block 706, 708 in the same transmission period defined by the third time period 714. Alternatively, the evaluation UE may schedule and perform monitoring operations on each resource block in the resource block in different transmission periods. Fig. 8A As shown, the first UE1 802 transmits in each transmission cycle according to the scheduled resource blocks 806 and 808, and the second UE2 804 transmits in each transmission cycle according to the scheduled resource blocks 810 and 812. Fig. 8A As shown, the first resource blocks 806, 810 of UE 802, UE 804 do not collide, while the second resource blocks 808, 812 of UE 802, UE 804 do experience a collision. Fig. 7A On the contrary, Fig. 8A In this aspect, the evaluation UE 802 monitors 815 the first resource block 806 in the second transmission period 814, and monitors 817 the second resource block 808 in the third transmission period 816. As shown, the evaluation UE 802 does not detect conflicting resources with respect to the first resource block 806 in the second transmission period 814, but detects a conflict with respect to the second resource block 808 in the third transmission period 816. In one aspect, as Fig. 8A As shown, the corrective action taken by the evaluation UE 802 is to interrupt transmission on all resources and perform a reselection procedure on all resources.

[0039] exist Figure 8B In an alternative aspect shown, a similar collision condition is detected, i.e., a partial collision is detected. More specifically, a collision is detected for some resources (i.e., the second resource block 808) but not all resources (i.e., resource blocks 806 and 808). In this aspect, the corrective action taken by the evaluation UE 802 is to interrupt transmission of only the conflicting resources (i.e., the second resource block 808) while continuing transmission of other non-conflicting resources, such as Figure 8B As shown. In yet another alternative, the corrective action may be conditioned on other criteria. For example, the priority of the data associated with the reserved resource block may be considered. If the priority of the data associated with the conflicting resource block is "high" (e.g., it exceeds a predetermined threshold), the conflicting resources are rescheduled, and if the priority is not "high", the evaluation UE 802 simply interrupts the transmission on the conflicting resource and maintains the transmission on the non-conflicting resource.

[0040] In one aspect, such non-continuous periodic transmission schemes as highlighted herein may be selectively enabled or disabled, while in another aspect, the non-continuous periodic transmission scheme may be a fixed solution, or may be configured or pre-configured per resource pool. The present disclosure contemplates either alternative.

[0041] As discussed above, the problems associated with conflicts in periodic transmissions are addressed by evaluating the UE interrupting its periodic transmissions and performing monitoring operations during the time periods when it would otherwise be transmitting in order to determine whether there are competing UEs with reserved resources, which are discussed herein and described in detail below. Figure 3A , Figures 4 to 5 , FIG. 7A to FIG. 7B and FIG. 8A to FIG. 8B The method shown in the example above conflicts with the resource of the UE. One or more methods of scheduling monitoring functions to form discontinuous periodic transmission are described below.

[0042] In one aspect of the present disclosure, before each transmission on a resource in a given period, the UE determines whether to transmit on the next transmission period, and if it is determined to transmit, the UE fills its SCI field accordingly. In one aspect, the determination of whether to transmit (or monitor) on the next period is based on a random selection of whether to monitor in the next transmission period, where the random selection has a configurable or preconfigured probability (A), or is based on criteria such as data priority. For example, if the probability (A) is configured or preconfigured to 10%, then the evaluation UE will choose not to transmit, but will monitor during the next transmission period. There will be a 10% chance.

[0043] According to alternative aspects, the probability (A) may depend on various criteria, for example, in one aspect, the probability (A) may depend on the data priority. For example, in one aspect, the probability (A) may be increased for high priority data to ensure reliable data transmission, while the probability may be reduced for low priority data. Alternatively, the probability (A) may be reduced for high priority data to achieve more continuous data transmission, while the probability (B) may be increased for low priority data to avoid collision with high priority data in competing UEs.

[0044] According to another alternative aspect, the probability (A) may depend on the history of conflicts. If a relatively high number of conflicts (according to some predetermined threshold or criteria) has been detected within a recent predefined time period, the probability (A) may be increased to monitor more frequently, and if the recent history shows no conflicts or shows infrequent conflicts, the probability (A) may be decreased. In other aspects, multiple factors or criteria may be considered together in forming or otherwise configuring the probability (A).

[0045] In addition, for non-contiguous multiple resources reserved in each transmission cycle, such as Fig. 8A As shown, the probability may be applied independently to each of the respective scheduled resources in the time period.

[0046] On the other hand, the monitoring of the evaluation UE may follow a predetermined pattern or periodicity. For example, in one aspect, since monitoring is performed every "B" time period, the periodic transmission is non-continuous. The value B may be (pre) configured, or may be randomly selected from a set of pre-configured periods. For example, the set may be a mutually prime number, such as {2, 3, 5, 7, 11}, which may avoid continuous identical non-continuous resources from different UEs. On the other hand, the selection of the value B may depend on the data priority. For example, for high priority data, the value B may be selected as a lower value so that monitoring is performed more frequently to ensure more reliable transmission, while for low priority data, B may be set to a larger value. On the other hand, for high priority data, B may be higher to ensure more continuous transmission of such data. In addition, in one aspect, once the periodicity B is selected, it is also necessary to determine the starting point. In one aspect, the starting period of the non-continuous resource time period may be randomly selected between 0 and B-1. Alternatively, the starting point may be configured or pre-configured, or based on other criteria.

[0047] The above discussion discloses determining the frequency to make an otherwise periodic transmission discontinuous by scheduling monitoring operations. The manner of signaling such a discontinuous transmission can be performed in a variety of different ways. In one aspect, if the evaluating UE determines a discontinuous transmission in the next time period, the evaluating UE changes the RRP (i.e., resource reservation period) field of the SCI to skip the next transmission time period. In one aspect, if the current RRP is set to 100ms, the evaluating UE sets the RRP in the SCI associated with the PSSCH of the period preceding the discontinuous transmission to 200ms (twice the periodicity). In another example, if the RRP is set to 400ms, the RRP of the SCI of the period preceding the discontinuous transmission is set to 800ms to double the periodicity and effectively "skip" that particular transmission period so that it can be used to monitor the channel. Fig. 9 An example of this feature is shown in , where the SCI field indicates one cycle for normal periodic transmission and then indicates "2×cycle" on the cycle prior to the monitoring operation 914 to indicate that the transmission on the scheduled resources jumps to the "next" transmission cycle after the non-continuous (monitoring) time period.

[0048] On the other hand, an additional bit may be used in the SCI field to indicate non-continuous transmission in the next transmission period. For example, if the additional bit is set to "0", the resources in the next transmission period are reserved and periodic transmission continues. For example, if the additional bit is set to "1", the resources in the next transmission period are not reserved, and monitoring may be performed, and the resources will be reserved for transmission in the period after the monitoring period.

[0049] In various aspects discussed above, a non-continuous periodic transmission scheme is disclosed in which an evaluation UE stops transmitting during non-continuous time periods to monitor a channel for potential conflicts. In another aspect, the periodic transmission is not interrupted, but the transmitting UE operates as an evaluation UE and performs self-detection of conflict operation by evaluating feedback from one or more receiving UEs when HARQ feedback is enabled. Alternatively, the transmitting UE operates as an evaluation UE by looking for HARQ feedback on sideline feedback channel (PSFCH) resources corresponding to PSCCH and PSSCH transmissions by other transmitting UEs to infer conflicts when HARQ feedback is disabled.

[0050] In one aspect, self-detection of a conflict may be performed by a transmitting UE that performs periodic transmissions. For example, in a sidelink unicast or multicast transmission in which HARQ feedback is enabled, the transmitting UE may evaluate the received feedback over a plurality of evaluated feedback messages and calculate a percentage of negative acknowledgements (NACKs) in such messages. If the percentage of such NACKs exceeds a predetermined threshold, it is determined that a conflict exists with a competing UE with respect to scheduled resources.

[0051] As is well known, unicast transmission is a one-to-one communication, in which the transmitting UE is transmitting a periodic transmission to a single specific receiving UE. In response to the unicast transmission, when HARQ feedback is enabled, the transmitting UE receives a response to the sidelink data packet from the receiving UE. Generally speaking, HARQ-ACK is a response indicating whether the sidelink data packet is successfully received. Available HARQ-ACK responses include, in particular, positive acknowledgment (ACK), negative acknowledgment (NACK), and DTX. Since only ACK indicates that the transmitted data is successfully received, for the purposes of this disclosure, NACK or DTX is considered to be "NACK" and therefore represents an unsuccessful transmission that may be caused by a conflict. Therefore, in periodic transmission, for continuous transmission of data, the reception of NNACK or DTX is considered to be "failure", while ACK is considered to be "successful". If the percentage of "failures" is greater than a threshold, the transmitting UE concludes that there is a conflict regarding the scheduled periodic resources. In such cases, corrective actions are performed, such as interrupting the periodic transmission and initiating a reselection procedure.

[0052] In one aspect, the threshold for concluding that a conflict has occurred is pre-configured or configured. In another aspect, the threshold may be based on a data quality of service (QoS) parameter or a data priority level. For example, if the QoS or data priority is high, then if there is little likelihood of a conflict, the threshold may be lower to trigger a reselection operation.

[0053] refer to Fig.10 , a process 1000 is provided for a UE to self-detect collisions in a periodic communication environment employing, for example, autonomous selection. Such a UE is a transmitting UE that also operates as an evaluation UE to detect collisions with competing UEs. Fig.10 It may also correspond to a method of performing self-detection of conflicts in the above environment using one or more processors, and may also require a non-transitory computer-readable medium containing instructions that, when executed by one or more processors, perform the method described herein.

[0054] In one aspect, process 1000 begins at 1002, where a query is made as to whether HARQ feedback is enabled in the UE. Since the standard allows for selective enabling of HARQ feedback, process 1000 provides two different options. If HARQ feedback is enabled (yes at 1002), the transmitting UE will receive ACK / NACK type feedback in response to the periodic transmission.

[0055] Upon learning that HARQ feedback is enabled, at 1004, the transmitting UE receives resources for periodic communication and schedules such resources using one or more feedback-based conflict detection parameters. Non-limiting examples of such feedback-based conflict detection parameters may be as follows. One parameter may be the total number of transmissions 1006 in a periodic transmission. For example, if the transmitting UE is associated with a vehicle, the transmitting UE may periodically transmit the vehicle speed a total of 100 or 500 times before rescheduling is required. The information may also include a period that determines the frequency of transmission of such data. Another feedback conflict detection parameter may be the number of data collection transmissions 1008 for collecting NACK statistics. In one example, if the total number of periodic transmissions is 100, the number of transmissions to be used or evaluated for collecting NACK statistics may be 10. Therefore, the UE will evaluate the first 10 HARQ feedbacks for 100 transmissions and make its decision based on the 10 HARQ feedback data.

[0056] Still refer to Fig.10 , another feedback conflict detection parameter may include a data collection format 1010. For example, in the example provided, the analysis of potential conflicts may be based on 10 / 100 transmissions. In one data collection format 1010, only the first 10 HARQ feedback data are considered. On the other hand, each subsequent set of 10 HARQ feedback information is evaluated throughout the transmission, so that transmissions 1-10 are evaluated, then 11-20, then 21-30, and so on. On the other hand, the data collection format may be a sliding window, where multiple HARQ feedback information segments 1-10 are evaluated, then 5-15, then 10-20, then 15-25, and so on. The data collection format 1010 allows for flexible customization of the manner in which self-conflict data analysis will be performed.

[0057] Another feedback collision detection parameter is a threshold 1012. For example, when collecting NACK statistics, the percentage of received NACKs may be compared to a threshold, and if the NACK percentage exceeds the threshold, a conclusion is drawn that there is a collision on the scheduled resources. For example, if 10 transmissions out of 100 are evaluated with respect to their HARQ feedback responses, and 2 out of the 10 HARQ feedback responses are NACKs, then the NACK percentage is 20%. If the threshold 1012 is 30%, then a conclusion is drawn that there is no collision, and if the threshold is 10%, then a conclusion is drawn that there is a collision with a competing UE on the reserved resources.

[0058] Return to reference Fig.10Once the reserved resources are scheduled at 1004 using the feedback-based conflict detection parameters, a periodic transmission is initiated and occurs by the transmitting UE at 1014. When the periodic transmission occurs at 1014, NACK statistics are collected at the transmitting UE via HARQ feedback at 1016, and such NACK statistics are collected according to one or more of the feedback-based conflict detection parameters. Process 1000 continues to 1018, where the NACK statistics are converted to, for example, a percentage and compared to a threshold 1012. If the threshold is not exceeded ("No" at 1018), it can be concluded that there is currently no conflict for the reserved resources, and if the periodic transmission is still continuing ("No" at 1020), additional NACK statistics can be collected according to the data collection format 1010. If the periodic transmission has completed ("Yes" at 1020), no corrective action is required because no resource conflict was detected.

[0059] Return to reference Fig.10 At action 1018, if the calculated NACK percentage does exceed the threshold ("yes" at 1018), it is concluded that a collision has occurred, and corrective action is selectively performed at 1024. In one aspect, the corrective action is to interrupt the periodic transmission and initiate a reselection process. In one aspect, the corrective action may be selected based on various other criteria.

[0060] return Fig.10 In query 1002, if HARQ feedback is not enabled ("No" at 1002), the transmitting UE will not receive HARQ feedback information. However, if other competing UEs are transmitting and using HARQ feedback, then at 1030, the evaluation UE may detect such information on a feedback channel (e.g., a physical sidelink feedback channel (PSFCH)). If HARQ feedback is detected during monitoring of the PSFCH ("Yes" at 1032), it can be inferred that the periodic transmission performed by the evaluation UE conflicts with the transmission of the competing UE, and corrective action is performed at 1024. In one example, the corrective action is to interrupt the periodic transmission and initiate a reselection process. For example, if no HARQ feedback is detected on the PSFCH ("No" at 1032), it is concluded that there is no conflict and no corrective action is taken at 1034. For example, the periodic transmission of the evaluation UE continues.
