[0001] CROSS-REFERENCE TO RELATED APPLICATIONS
[0002] This patent application claims the benefit of U.S. patent application No. 17 / 859,865, filed by PAZ et al. on July 7, 2022, entitled “SIGNALING PATTERNS FOR TIME DRIFT REFERENCE SIGNALS,” which is assigned to the assignee of this application and is expressly incorporated herein by reference. Technical Field
[0003] The following relates to wireless communications, including signaling patterns for a Time Drift Reference Signal (TDRS). Background Art
[0004] Wireless communication systems are widely deployed to provide various types of communication content, such as voice, video, packet data, messaging, broadcast, etc. These systems may be able to support communication with multiple users by sharing available system resources (e.g., time, frequency, and power). Examples of such multiple access systems include fourth generation (4G) systems (such as long term evolution (LTE) systems, advanced LTE (LTE-A) systems, or LTE-A Pro systems) and fifth generation (5G) systems (which may be referred to as new radio (NR) systems). These systems may use techniques such as code division multiple access (CDMA), time division multiple access (TDMA), frequency division multiple access (FDMA), orthogonal FDMA (OFDMA), or discrete Fourier transform spread orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (DFT-S-OFDM). A wireless multiple access communication system may include one or more base stations, each of which supports wireless communication of communication devices, which may be referred to as user equipment (UE). Summary of the invention
[0005] The described techniques relate to improved methods, systems, devices, and apparatuses that support signaling patterns for time drift reference signals (TDRS). For example, the described techniques may support high frequency wireless communications, such as communications in the sub-terahertz (sub-THz) band. To save power and reduce signaling overhead, a device may support a sparse inter-slot pattern for signaling demodulation reference signals (DMRS) so that a device (e.g., user equipment (UE)) may use one or more DMRS less frequently to perform channel estimation. However, in some cases, the system may be affected by inaccuracies over time, such as phase shifts or phase errors over time due to reduced channel estimates.
[0006] To reduce cumulative errors, the network may support a pattern for a narrowband reference signal or a time drift reference signal (TDRS) that is complementary to the inter-slot DMRS pattern and used for channel estimation between DMRS symbols or time slots (e.g., additional or supplemental channel estimation). The UE may signal the network with a capability indicating support for TDRS, and may receive one or more control messages indicating a first signaling pattern for DMRS and a second signaling pattern for TDRS. The UE may then receive a downlink shared channel multiplexed with DMRS and TDRS within a symbol or time slot according to the first signaling pattern and the second signaling pattern.
[0007] A method for wireless communication at a UE is described. The method may include: sending one or more messages indicating the ability of the UE to support receiving DMRS and TDRS according to one or more signaling modes; receiving one or more control messages based on the ability of the UE, the one or more control messages indicating a first signaling mode for one or more DMRS via a set of transmission time intervals and indicating a second signaling mode for one or more TDRS via the set of transmission time intervals, the first signaling mode corresponding to the second signaling mode; and receiving a downlink shared channel, the one or more DMRS, and the TDRS via the set of transmission time intervals, the downlink shared channel being multiplexed with the one or more DMRS according to the first signaling mode, and being multiplexed with the one or more TDRS according to the second signaling mode.
[0008] A device for wireless communication at a UE is described. The device may include a processor, a memory coupled to the processor, and instructions stored in the memory. The instructions may be executed by the processor to enable the device to: send one or more messages indicating the ability of the UE to support receiving DMRS and TDRS according to one or more signaling modes; receive one or more control messages based on the ability of the UE, the one or more control messages indicating a first signaling mode for one or more DMRS via a set of transmission time intervals and indicating a second signaling mode for one or more TDRS via the set of transmission time intervals, the first signaling mode corresponding to the second signaling mode; and receive a downlink shared channel, the one or more DMRS, and the TDRS via the set of transmission time intervals, the downlink shared channel being multiplexed with the one or more DMRS according to the first signaling mode, and being multiplexed with the one or more TDRS according to the second signaling mode.

[0051] Some high-frequency wireless systems (e.g., wireless systems supporting sub-terahertz (sub-THz) frequencies) may operate using short slot durations and increased subcarrier spacing relative to lower frequency bands (e.g., frequency range 1 (FR1) and frequency range 2 (FR2)). In order to save power and reduce signaling overhead, devices in high-frequency wireless systems may implement a sparse inter-slot pattern for signaling demodulation reference signals (DMRS), which allows the network to send DMRS less frequently according to the sparse inter-slot DMRS pattern so that the user equipment (UE) can perform channel estimation less frequently instead of performing channel estimation in every slot. The sparse inter-slot DMRS pattern reduces the physical downlink shared channel (PDSCH) pilot overhead and can correspondingly increase the data rate for the sub-THz band. However, in some cases, because the UE performs channel estimation less frequently, the system may accumulate sampling timing offset (STO) or phase error over time due to the lack of channel estimation per slot. In addition, the sub-THz band may be particularly sensitive to uncompensated STO and phase errors due to the short sampling time and short slot duration of the single-carrier orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (SC-OFDM) waveform used for sub-THz systems.
[0052] The wireless system may implement a variety of different techniques to support efficient and relatively low power mitigation of the accumulated residual phase drift or phase error when using a sparse inter-slot DMRS pattern. For example, the network may employ a narrowband reference signal or a time drift reference signal (TDRS) pattern that is complementary to the inter-slot DMRS pattern and is used for additional or supplemental channel estimation between DMRS symbols. Using TDRS may also consume less power and may have lower complexity than allocating a full DMRS symbol for channel estimation. Using an additional TDRS pattern may also allow for a higher sparsity level (or lower inter-slot density) for the inter-slot DMRS pattern to further reduce DMRS overhead and UE complexity and power consumption associated with channel estimation and equalization.
[0053] The network may configure (via radio resource control (RRC) configuration, downlink control information (DCI), or other signaling) a sparse DMRS pattern for use by the UE, and may also configure a sparse TDRS coupled with the DMRS pattern, where each TDRS opportunity occurs between two DMRS opportunities. The network may also configure multiple different DMRS-TDRS signaling patterns (coupled with corresponding modulation and coding schemes (MCS)), from which the UE may select based on factors such as changing channel conditions.
[0054] First, aspects of the present disclosure are described in the context of a wireless communication system.Aspects of the present disclosure are further illustrated and described by and with reference to process flows, apparatus diagrams, system diagrams, and flow diagrams related to a signaling pattern for TDRS.
[0055] Figure 1 An example of a wireless communication system 100 supporting a signaling mode for TDRS according to one or more aspects of the present disclosure is illustrated. The wireless communication system 100 may include one or more network entities 105, one or more UEs 115, and a core network 130. In some examples, the wireless communication system 100 may be a long term evolution (LTE) network, an advanced LTE (LTE-A) network, an LTE-A Pro network, a new radio (NR) network, or a network operating according to other systems and radio technologies (including future systems and radio technologies not explicitly mentioned herein).
[0056] The network entities 105 may be dispersed throughout a geographic area to form the wireless communication system 100, and may include devices in different forms or with different capabilities. In various examples, the network entities 105 may be referred to as network elements, mobility elements, radio access network (RAN) nodes, or network equipment, etc. In some examples, the network entities 105 and the UE 115 may communicate wirelessly via one or more communication links 125 (e.g., radio frequency (RF) access links). For example, the network entity 105 may support a coverage area 110 (e.g., a geographic coverage area) within which the UE 115 and the network entity 105 may establish one or more communication links 125. The coverage area 110 may be an example of a geographic area within which the network entity 105 and the UE 115 may support signal communications according to one or more radio access technologies (RATs).
[0057] The UEs 115 may be dispersed throughout the coverage area 110 of the wireless communication system 100, and each UE 115 may be stationary or mobile, or both stationary and mobile at different times. The UEs 115 may be devices in different forms or with different capabilities. Figure 1Some example UEs 115 are illustrated in FIG. 1. The UEs 115 described herein may be capable of supporting communications with various types of devices, such as Figure 1 Other UEs 115 or network entities 105 are shown.
[0058] As described herein, a node of the wireless communication system 100 (which may be referred to as a network node or a wireless node) may be a network entity 105 (e.g., any network entity described herein), a UE 115 (e.g., any UE described herein), a network controller, an apparatus, a device, a computing system, one or more components, or another suitable processing entity configured to perform any of the techniques described herein. For example, the node may be a UE 115. As another example, the node may be a network entity 105. As another example, a first node may be configured to communicate with a second node or a third node. In one aspect of this example, the first node may be a UE 115, the second node may be a network entity 105, and the third node may be a UE 115. In another aspect of this example, the first node may be a UE 115, the second node may be a network entity 105, and the third node may be a network entity 105. In yet other aspects of this example, the first node, the second node, and the third node may be different relative to these examples. Similarly, references to UE 115, network entity 105, apparatus, device, computing system, etc. may include disclosure of UE 115, network entity 105, apparatus, device, computing system, etc. as nodes. For example, a disclosure that UE 115 is configured to receive information from network entity 105 also discloses that the first node is configured to receive information from a second node.
[0059] In some examples, the network entities 105 may communicate with the core network 130 or with each other or both. For example, the network entities 105 may communicate with the core network 130 via one or more backhaul communication links 120 (e.g., according to S1, N2, N3, or other interface protocols). In some examples, the network entities 105 may communicate with each other directly (e.g., directly between each network entity 105) or indirectly (e.g., via the core network 130) via the backhaul communication links 120 (e.g., according to X2, Xn, or other interface protocols). In some examples, the network entities 105 may communicate with each other via midhaul communication links 162 (e.g., according to a midhaul interface protocol) or fronthaul communication links 168 (e.g., according to a fronthaul interface protocol) or any combination thereof. The backhaul communication links 120, midhaul communication links 162, or fronthaul communication links 168 may be or include one or more wired links (e.g., electrical links, optical fiber links), one or more wireless links (e.g., radio links, wireless optical links), etc. or various combinations thereof. UE 115 may communicate with core network 130 via communication link 155 .
[0060] One or more of the network entities 105 described herein may include or may be referred to as a base station 140 (e.g., a transceiver base station, a radio base station, an NR base station, an access point, a radio transceiver, a Node B, an evolved Node B (eNB), a next generation Node B, or a Gigabit Node B (any of which may be referred to as a gNB), a 5G NB, a next generation eNB (ng-eNB), a Home Node B, a Home Evolved Node B, or other suitable terms). In some examples, the network entity 105 (e.g., a base station 140) may be implemented in an aggregated (e.g., monolithic, stand-alone) base station architecture, which may be configured to utilize a protocol stack that is physically or logically integrated within a single network entity 105 (e.g., a single RAN node, such as a base station 140).
[0061] In some examples, the network entity 105 may be implemented in a disaggregated architecture (e.g., a disaggregated base station architecture, a disaggregated RAN architecture) that may be configured to utilize a protocol stack that is physically or logically distributed between two or more network entities 105, such as an integrated access backhaul (IAB) network, an open RAN (O-RAN) (e.g., a network configuration sponsored by the O-RAN Alliance), or a virtualized RAN (vRAN) (e.g., a cloud RAN (C-RAN)). For example, the network entity 105 may include one or more of the following: a central unit (CU) 160, a distributed unit (DU) 165, a radio unit (RU) 170, a RAN intelligent controller (RIC) 175 (e.g., a near real-time RIC (near RT RIC), a non-real-time RIC (non-RT RIC)), a service management and orchestration (SMO) 180 system, or any combination thereof. The RU 170 may also be referred to as a radio head, a smart radio head, a remote radio head (RRH), a remote radio unit (RRU), or a transmit receive point (TRP). One or more components of the network entity 105 in the decomposed RAN architecture may be co-located, or one or more components of the network entity 105 may be located in distributed locations (e.g., separate physical locations). In some examples, one or more network entities 105 of the decomposed RAN architecture may be implemented as virtual units (e.g., virtual CU (VCU), virtual DU (VDU), virtual RU (VRU)).
[0062] The functional split between CU 160, DU 165, and RU 170 is flexible and may support different functions depending on which functions (e.g., network layer functions, protocol layer functions, baseband functions, RF functions, and any combination thereof) are performed at CU 160, DU 165, and RU 170. For example, a functional split of a protocol stack may be employed between CU 160 and DU 165 such that CU 160 may support one or more layers of a protocol stack and DU 165 may support one or more different layers of a protocol stack. In some examples, CU 160 may host higher protocol layer (e.g., layer 3 (L3), layer 2 (L2)) functionality and signaling (e.g., RRC, service data adaptation protocol (SDAP), packet data convergence protocol (PDCP)). The CU 160 may be connected to one or more DUs 165 or RUs 170, and the one or more DUs 165 or RUs 170 may host lower protocol layers, such as layer 1 (L1) (e.g., physical (PHY) layer) or L2 (e.g., radio link control (RLC) layer, medium access control (MAC) layer) functions and signaling, and may each be at least partially controlled by the CU 160. Additionally or alternatively, a functional split of the protocol stack may be employed between the DU 165 and the RU 170, such that the DU 165 may support one or more layers of the protocol stack, and the RU 170 may support one or more different layers of the protocol stack. The DU 165 may support one or more different cells (e.g., via one or more RUs 170). In some cases, the functional split between CU 160 and DU 165 or between DU 165 and RU 170 may be within the protocol layer (e.g., some functions of the protocol layer may be performed by one of CU 160, DU 165, or RU 170, while other functions of the protocol layer are performed by different ones of CU 160, DU 165, or RU 170). CU 160 may be further functionally split into CU control plane (CU-CP) and CU user plane (CU-UP) functions. CU 160 may be connected to one or more DUs 165 via midhaul communication links 162 (e.g., F1, F1-c, F1-u), and DU 165 may be connected to one or more RUs 170 via fronthaul communication links 168 (e.g., open fronthaul (FH) interface). In some examples, midhaul communication link 162 or fronthaul communication link 168 may be implemented according to an interface (eg, channel) between layers of a protocol stack supported by the respective network entities 105 communicating via those communication links.
[0063] In some wireless communication systems (e.g., wireless communication system 100), infrastructure and spectrum resources for radio access may support wireless backhaul link capabilities to supplement wired backhaul connections, thereby providing an IAB network architecture (e.g., to core network 130). In some cases, in an IAB network, one or more network entities 105 (e.g., IAB nodes 104) may be partially controlled by each other. One or more IAB nodes 104 may be referred to as donor entities or IAB donors. One or more DUs 165 or one or more RUs 170 may be controlled in part by one or more CUs 160 associated with a donor network entity 105 (e.g., a donor base station 140). One or more donor network entities 105 (e.g., IAB donors) may communicate with one or more additional network entities 105 (e.g., IAB nodes 104) via supported access and backhaul links (e.g., backhaul communication links 120). The IAB node 104 may include an IAB mobile terminal (IAB-MT) controlled (e.g., scheduled) by a coupled IAB donor's DU 165. The IAB-MT may include an independent set of antennas for relaying communications with the UE 115, or may share the same antennas of the IAB node 104 (e.g., of the RU 170) for access via the DU 165 of the IAB node 104 (e.g., referred to as a virtual IAB-MT (vIAB-MT)). In some examples, the IAB node 104 may include a DU 165 that supports communication links with additional entities (e.g., IAB node 104, UE 115) within a relay chain or configuration (e.g., downstream) of the access network. In such cases, one or more components of the decomposed RAN architecture (e.g., one or more IAB nodes 104 or components of the IAB node 104) may be configured to operate according to the techniques described herein.
[0064] Where the techniques described herein are applied in the context of a decomposed RAN architecture, one or more components of the decomposed RAN architecture may be configured to support the signaling mode for TDRS as described herein. For example, some operations described as being performed by a UE 115 or a network entity 105 (e.g., a base station 140) may additionally or alternatively be performed by one or more components of the decomposed RAN architecture (e.g., an IAB node 104, a DU 165, a CU 160, a RU 170, a RIC 175, a SMO 180).
[0065] UE 115 may include or may be referred to as a mobile device, a wireless device, a remote device, a handheld device, or a subscriber device, or some other suitable term, where a "device" may also be referred to as a unit, a station, a terminal, or a client, etc. UE 115 may also include or may be referred to as a personal electronic device, such as a cellular phone, a personal digital assistant (PDA), a tablet computer, a laptop computer, or a personal computer. In some examples, UE 115 may include or may be referred to as a wireless local loop (WLL) station, an Internet of Things (IoT) device, an Internet of Everything (IoE) device, or a machine type communication (MTC) device, etc., which may be implemented in various objects such as appliances or vehicles, meters, etc.
[0066] The UE 115 described herein may be capable of communicating with various types of devices, such as other UEs 115, which may sometimes act as relays, as well as network entities 105 and network equipment including macro eNBs or gNBs, small cell eNBs or gNBs, or relay base stations, etc. Figure 1 shown.
[0067] The UE 115 and the network entity 105 may wirelessly communicate with each other via one or more communication links 125 (e.g., access links) using resources associated with one or more carriers. The term "carrier" may refer to a set of RF spectrum resources having a physical layer structure defined for supporting the communication link 125. For example, a carrier for the communication link 125 may include a portion of an RF spectrum band (e.g., a bandwidth portion (BWP)) that operates according to one or more physical layer channels for a given radio access technology (e.g., LTE, LTE-A, LTE-A Pro, NR). Each physical layer channel may carry acquisition signaling (e.g., synchronization signals, system information), control signaling for coordinating carrier operations, user data, or other signaling. The wireless communication system 100 may support communications with the UE 115 using carrier aggregation or multi-carrier operation. Depending on the carrier aggregation configuration, the UE 115 may be configured to have multiple downlink component carriers and one or more uplink component carriers. Carrier aggregation may be used for both frequency division duplex (FDD) and time division duplex (TDD) component carriers. Communication between the network entity 105 and other devices may refer to communication between these devices and any part (e.g., entity, sub-entity) of the network entity 105. For example, the terms "send", "receive", or "communicate" when referring to the network entity 105 may refer to any part of the network entity 105 (e.g., base station 140, CU 160, DU 165, RU 170) of the RAN communicating with another device (e.g., directly or via one or more other network entities 105).
[0068] The signal waveform transmitted via the carrier may be composed of multiple subcarriers (e.g., using multi-carrier modulation (MCM) techniques, such as orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) or discrete Fourier transform spread OFDM (DFT-S-OFDM)). In a system using MCM techniques, a resource element may refer to a resource of one symbol period (e.g., the duration of one modulation symbol) and one subcarrier, in which case the symbol period and the subcarrier spacing may be inversely related. The number of bits carried by each resource element may depend on the modulation scheme (e.g., the order of the modulation scheme, the coding rate of the modulation scheme, or both), so that a relatively high number of resource elements (e.g., in the transmission duration) and a relatively high order modulation scheme may correspond to a relatively high communication rate. Wireless communication resources may refer to a combination of RF spectrum resources, time resources, and spatial resources (e.g., spatial layers or beams), and the use of multiple spatial resources may increase the data rate or data integrity used for communication with UE 115.
[0069] One or more parameter sets for a carrier may be supported, and the parameter sets may include subcarrier spacing (Δf) and cyclic prefixes. A carrier may be divided into one or more BWPs with the same or different parameter sets. In some examples, a UE 115 may be configured with multiple BWPs. In some examples, a single BWP for a carrier may be active at a given time, and communications of a UE 115 may be constrained to one or more active BWPs.
[0070] The time interval for the network entity 105 or the UE 115 may be expressed as a multiple of a basic time unit, which may be, for example, a sampling period T s =1 / (Δf max ·N f ) seconds, where Δf max It can represent the supported subcarrier spacing, and N f The supported discrete Fourier transform (DFT) size may be indicated. The time intervals of the communication resources may be organized according to radio frames, each having a specified duration (e.g., 10 milliseconds (ms)). Each radio frame may be identified by a system frame number (SFN) (e.g., ranging from 0 to 1023).
[0071] Each frame may include a plurality of consecutively numbered subframes or time slots, and each subframe or time slot may have the same duration. In some examples, a frame may be divided into subframes (e.g., in the time domain), and each subframe may be further divided into a certain number of time slots. Alternatively, each frame may include a variable number of time slots, and the number of time slots may depend on the subcarrier spacing. Each time slot may include a certain number of symbol periods (e.g., depending on the length of the cyclic prefix appended in front of each symbol period). In some wireless communication systems 100, the time slot may be further divided into a plurality of micro time slots associated with one or more symbols. Excluding the cyclic prefix, each symbol period may be associated with one or more (e.g., N f The duration of a symbol period may depend on the subcarrier spacing or the operating frequency band.
[0072] A subframe, a time slot, a mini-time slot, or a symbol may be the smallest scheduling unit (e.g., in the time domain) of the wireless communication system 100 and may be referred to as a transmit time interval (TTI). In some examples, the TTI duration (e.g., the number of symbol periods in a TTI) may be variable. Additionally or alternatively, the smallest scheduling unit of the wireless communication system 100 may be dynamically selected (e.g., in a burst of a shortened TTI (sTTI)).
[0073] According to various techniques, physical channels may be multiplexed using carriers for communication. Physical control channels and physical data channels may be multiplexed for signaling via downlink carriers, for example, using one or more of a time division multiplexing (TDM) technique, a frequency division multiplexing (FDM) technique, or a hybrid TDM-FDM technique. A control region (e.g., a control resource set (CORESET)) of a physical control channel may be defined by a set of symbol periods and may extend across a system bandwidth of a carrier or a subset of that system bandwidth. One or more control regions (e.g., CORESETs) may be configured for a set of UEs 115. For example, one or more UEs in UE 115 may monitor or search a control region for control information according to one or more search space sets, and each search space set may include one or more control channel candidates in one or more aggregation levels arranged in a cascaded manner. The aggregation level of a control channel candidate may refer to the amount of control channel resources (e.g., control channel elements (CCEs)) associated with coded information for a control information format having a given payload size. The search space sets may include a common search space set configured for transmitting control information to multiple UEs 115 , and a UE-specific search space set for transmitting control information to a specific UE 115 .
[0074] In some examples, the network entities 105 (e.g., base stations 140, RUs 170) may be mobile and thus provide communication coverage for mobile coverage areas 110. In some examples, different coverage areas 110 associated with different technologies may overlap, but the different coverage areas 110 may be supported by the same network entity 105. In some other examples, overlapping coverage areas 110 associated with different technologies may be supported by different network entities 105. The wireless communication system 100 may include, for example, a heterogeneous network in which different types of network entities 105 provide coverage for various coverage areas 110 using the same or different radio access technologies.
[0075] The wireless communication system 100 may be configured to support ultra-reliable communication or low-latency communication or various combinations thereof. For example, the wireless communication system 100 may be configured to support ultra-reliable low-latency communication (URLLC). UE 115 may be designed to support ultra-reliable or low-latency or critical functions. Ultra-reliable communication may include private communication or group communication, and may be supported by one or more services (such as push-to-talk, video, or data). Support for ultra-reliable, low-latency functions may include prioritization of services, and such services may be used for public safety or general commercial applications. The terms ultra-reliable, low-latency, and ultra-reliable low-latency may be used interchangeably herein.
[0076] In some examples, the UE 115 may be configured to support direct communication with other UEs 115 via a device-to-device (D2D) communication link 135 (e.g., according to a peer-to-peer (P2P), D2D, or sidelink protocol). In some examples, one or more UEs 115 in a group that are performing D2D communication may be within a coverage area 110 of a network entity 105 (e.g., a base station 140, a RU 170), and the one or more UEs may support aspects of such D2D communication configured (e.g., or scheduled) by the network entity 105. In some examples, one or more UEs 115 in the group may be outside the coverage area 110 of the network entity 105, or may otherwise be unable or not configured to receive transmissions from the network entity 105. In some examples, a group of UEs 115 communicating via D2D communication may support a one-to-many (1:M) system, in which each UE 115 transmits to each other UE 115 in the group. In some examples, network entity 105 may facilitate scheduling of resources for D2D communications. In some other examples, D2D communications may be performed between UEs 115 without involving network entity 105.
[0077] The core network 130 may provide user authentication, access authorization, tracking, Internet Protocol (IP) connectivity, and other access, routing or mobility functions. The core network 130 may be an evolved packet core (EPC) or a 5G core (5GC), which may include at least one control plane entity (e.g., a mobility management entity (MME), an access and mobility management function (AMF)) for managing access and mobility and at least one user plane entity (e.g., a serving gateway (S-GW), a packet data network (PDN) gateway (P-GW), or a user plane function (UPF)) for routing packets or interconnecting to an external network. The control plane entity may manage non-access stratum (NAS) functions such as mobility, authentication, and bearer management of UE 115 served by a network entity 105 (e.g., a base station 140) associated with the core network 130. User IP packets may be delivered through the user plane entity, which may provide IP address allocation and other functions. The user plane entity may be connected to the IP service 150 of one or more network operators. IP services 150 may include access to the Internet, an intranet, an IP Multimedia Subsystem (IMS), or packet-switched streaming services.
[0078] The wireless communication system 100 may operate using one or more frequency bands that may be in the range of 300 megahertz (MHz) to 300 gigahertz (GHz). Generally speaking, the region from 300 MHz to 3 GHz is referred to as the ultra-high frequency (UHF) region or decimeter band because the wavelength ranges from about one decimeter to one meter in length. UHF waves may be blocked or redirected by buildings and environmental features (which may be referred to as clusters), but these waves may be sufficient to penetrate structures so that macro cells provide services to UEs 115 located indoors. Communications using UHF waves may be associated with smaller antennas and shorter ranges (e.g., less than 100 kilometers) than communications using lower frequencies and longer waves in the high frequency (HF) or very high frequency (VHF) portions of the spectrum below 300 MHz.
[0079] The wireless communication system 100 may also operate using a super high frequency (SHF) region that may be within the range of 3 GHz to 30 GHz (also referred to as a centimeter band) or an extremely high frequency (EHF) region that uses a spectrum (e.g., from 30 GHz to 300 GHz) (also referred to as a millimeter band). In some examples, the wireless communication system 100 may support millimeter wave (mmW) communications between UE 115 and network entity 105 (e.g., base station 140, RU 170), and the EHF antenna of the corresponding device may be smaller and closer than the UHF antenna. In some examples, such technology may facilitate the use of antenna arrays within the device. However, the propagation of EHF transmissions may be subject to even greater attenuation and a shorter range than SHF or UHF transmissions. The technology disclosed herein may be adopted across transmissions using one or more different frequency regions, and the use of frequency bands specified across these frequency regions may vary by country or regulatory agency.
[0080] The wireless communication system 100 may utilize licensed and unlicensed RF spectrum bands. For example, the wireless communication system 100 may employ license assisted access (LAA), LTE-unlicensed (LTE-U) radio access technology, or NR technology using unlicensed bands (such as the 5 GHz Industrial, Scientific, and Medical (ISM) band). When operating using unlicensed RF spectrum bands, devices such as the network entity 105 and the UE 115 may employ carrier sensing for conflict detection and avoidance. In some examples, operations using unlicensed bands may be based on a carrier aggregation configuration in conjunction with a component carrier (e.g., LAA) operating using a licensed band. Operations using unlicensed spectrum may include downlink transmissions, uplink transmissions, P2P transmissions, or D2D transmissions, and the like.
[0081] The network entity 105 (e.g., base station 140, RU 170) or UE 115 may be equipped with multiple antennas that can be used to employ technologies such as transmit diversity, receive diversity, multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) communications, or beamforming. The antennas of the network entity 105 or UE 115 may be located in one or more antenna arrays or antenna panels, which may support MIMO operations or transmit or receive beamforming. For example, one or more base station antennas or antenna arrays may be co-located at an antenna assembly, such as an antenna tower. In some examples, antennas or antenna arrays associated with the network entity 105 may be located at different geographical locations. The network entity 105 may include an antenna array having a set of multiple rows and columns of antenna ports that the network entity 105 can use to support beamforming for communications with the UE 115. Similarly, the UE 115 may include one or more antenna arrays that may support various MIMO or beamforming operations. Additionally or alternatively, the antenna panel may support RF beamforming for signals sent via the antenna ports.
[0082] Beamforming (which may also be referred to as spatial filtering, directional transmission, or directional reception) is a signal processing technique that may be used at a transmitting device or a receiving device (e.g., a network entity 105, a UE 115) to shape or direct an antenna beam (e.g., a transmit beam, a receive beam) along a spatial path between the transmitting device and the receiving device. Beamforming may be achieved by combining signals conveyed via antenna elements of an antenna array so that some signals propagating in a particular direction relative to the antenna array experience constructive interference, while other signals experience destructive interference. Adjustments to signals conveyed via antenna elements may include the transmitting device or the receiving device applying an amplitude offset, a phase offset, or both to signals carried via antenna elements associated with the device. Adjustments associated with each of these antenna elements may be defined by a set of beamforming weights associated with a particular direction (e.g., relative to the antenna array of the transmitting device or the receiving device or relative to some other direction).
[0083] The wireless communication system 100 may be a packet-based network that operates according to a layered protocol stack. In the user plane, communications at the bearer or PDCP layer may be IP-based. The RLC layer may perform packet segmentation and reassembly to communicate via logical channels. The MAC layer may perform priority processing and multiplexing of logical channels into transport channels. The MAC layer may also implement error detection techniques, error correction techniques, or both to support retransmission to improve link efficiency. In the control plane, the RRC layer may provide the establishment, configuration, and maintenance of an RRC connection that supports a radio bearer for user plane data between a UE 115 and a network entity 105 or a core network 130. The PHY layer may map a transport channel to a physical channel.
[0084] The wireless communication system 100 may support high frequency communications (such as sub-THz communications) and may operate using short slot durations and increased subcarrier spacing relative to lower frequency bands (e.g., FR1 and FR2). In order to save power and reduce signaling overhead, devices such as UE 115 and network entity 105 may implement a sparse inter-slot pattern for signaling DMRS so that UE 115 may perform channel estimation less frequently to save power and signaling overhead while increasing data rates. However, in some cases, because UE 115 performs channel estimation less frequently, the system may accumulate STO or phase errors over time due to the lack of per-slot channel estimation.
[0085] In some examples, the wireless communication system 200 may employ an additional narrowband reference signal or TDRS pattern that is complementary to the inter-slot DMRS pattern and used for additional or supplemental channel estimation between DMRS symbols. Using TDRS may also consume less power and may have lower complexity than allocating a full DMRS symbol for channel estimation. Using an additional TDRS pattern may also allow for a higher sparsity level (or lower inter-slot density) for the inter-slot DMRS pattern to further reduce DMRS overhead and UE complexity.
[0086] Figure 2 An example of a wireless communication system 200 supporting a signaling mode for TDRS according to one or more aspects of the present disclosure is illustrated. For example, the wireless communication system 200 may support communication between a UE 115-a and a network entity 105-a, which may be a reference Figure 1 Examples of corresponding devices described.
[0087] Some wireless communication systems such as wireless communication system 200 (e.g., high frequency systems operating using sub-THz frequencies) may have relatively static (e.g., flat) channel conditions due to factors such as low delay spread, relatively strong line-of-sight components, and low mobility of UEs operating in the sub-THz band. However, such high frequency systems may also have increased phase noise relative to lower frequency bands due to increased carrier frequency and increased subcarrier spacing (e.g., relative to FR2). In some cases, this can result in short sampling times and short OFDM symbol and slot durations, and the short slot durations combined with the effective static channel assumption can result in channel coherence times covering multiple slots of the sub-THz band.
[0088] To mitigate the relatively high levels of phase noise associated with the sub-THz band, the wireless device may implement a single carrier OFDM (SC-OFDM) waveform with a time domain phase tracking reference signal (TD-PTRS) as a waveform candidate. Additionally, TD-PTRS may allow UE 115-a to estimate and mitigate any residual or accumulated frequency offset to reduce phase drift or phase error accumulation as a function of time in the sub-THz band. This reduction in accumulated frequency offset may further reduce or eliminate effective channel variations over time (e.g., via common phase error (CPE) correction per OFDM symbol).
[0089] In order to support low channel estimation errors related to channel time interpolation and time coherence characteristics (e.g., relative to a channel estimation threshold or floor), some wireless communication systems may implement sparse inter-slot DMRS patterns for channel estimation. In this case, a configured inter-slot DMRS pattern may be used to allocate DMRS symbols once every few slots (e.g., instead of once per slot). In some examples, the wireless communication system 200 may support dynamic selection of inter-slot DMRS patterns to support higher channel estimation robustness (e.g., accuracy) at different levels of accumulated residual time drift between the nearest DMRS symbols at different levels of signal-to-noise ratio (SNR). In some cases, control signaling such as DCI scheduling multiple consecutive data slots may be used to allocate inter-slot DMRS patterns.
[0090] In some implementations, a sparse inter-slot DMRS pattern can reduce signaling overhead (e.g., PDSCH pilot overhead) and can increase data rates for sub-THz bands. In some examples, high-frequency communications associated with sub-THz bands can support large amounts of data that can be scheduled using bursty data transmissions, such that the network entity 105-a pre-allocates multiple slots (back-to-back transmissions) for the UE 115-a via a single DCI schedule (e.g., giant packets). In this case, the network can allocate a sparse inter-slot DMRS pattern using an RRC configuration or dynamic allocation signaled by a DCI or MAC-CE to accommodate the bursty slot allocation. Dynamic selection of the inter-slot DMRS pattern can support dynamic adjustment of channel estimates based on different levels of accumulated residual time drift between the most recent DMRS symbols at different levels of SNR. In some examples, the inter-slot DMRS pattern can be configured by a scheduling DCI and can be signaled via a bitmap indication or DCI field corresponding to the DMRS symbol allocation (e.g., in the first and last slots of a giant allocation).
[0091] In some cases, component carrier spacing, high bandwidth, and wideband resource allocations associated with sub-THz bands can increase sensitivity to uncompensated STO for communications. For example, uncompensated STO (or STO due to time drift) can introduce non-negligible phase bias in frequency domain channel estimates (e.g., channel estimates obtained from the most recent DMRS symbol or slot). In the case of using OFDM waveforms and sparse inter-slot DMRS patterns, the uncompensated STO error (STO) generated during multi-slot allocation time can be increased. err ) may result in channel mismatch as a function of the data RE index (k) and OFDM symbol index (n) given by:
[0092]
[0093] In this case, channel mismatch may result in a phase rotation of the data resource elements (eg, as a function of the constellation rotation of the resource element index).
[0094] In some cases, residual STO mitigation can be performed using a frequency domain phase tracking reference signal (FD-PTRS), and the network can allocate some density across the bandwidth to estimate and correct the accumulated STO (e.g., via phase slope estimation in the frequency domain). In some other cases (e.g., using SC-OFDM waveforms), non-compensated STO err This will result in inter-symbol interference (ISI) of the time-domain data symbols. To compensate for the STO error, the network can implement TD-PTRS allocation to estimate the TD equalizer response of the STO and mitigate ISI based on the TD-PTRS.
[0095] However, in some cases, such estimation and application of a TD equalizer for TD data symbols on each OFDM symbol may result in significant processing and corresponding power consumption penalties. For high frequency systems such as sub-THz systems, such increased processing and power consumption may be further amplified. Accordingly, sub-THz systems using SC-OFDM waveforms will also experience modulation and coding scheme (MCS) limitations and block error rate (BLER) floors due to uncompensated STO and time drift for medium / high SNR regimes (e.g., SNR above one or more thresholds), and based on the short time domain symbols and short cyclic prefix duration associated with the sub-THz band.
[0096] Therefore, some wireless communication systems may support different sparsity levels (e.g., density across time slots) of the inter-slot DMRS pattern for the SC-OFDM waveform (e.g., at least for situations where medium to high levels of SNR are expected). In order to ensure sufficient time tracking accuracy for the sparse inter-slot DMRS pattern and reduce uncompensated STO, the time and frequency tracking loops may be updated at a higher rate relative to the lower frequency bands. In this case, the steady-state variance and residual error (e.g., ppm_err) of the loop may be low (e.g., below 0.1 ppm).
[0097] In some examples, frequency offset estimation accuracy (and the corresponding residual ppm_err) may present challenges in the sub-THz band compared to lower frequency bands due to the higher impact of phase noise on the estimation variance and the lower observation time. Due to the relatively high parameter set in the sub-THz band, such an observation time may define the Cramer-Rao lower bound (CRLB) for a single frequency offset estimation session (e.g., open-loop estimation). Additionally or alternatively, the lower frequency band may achieve a higher loop averaging factor and processing gain for the time and frequency tracking loop to achieve at least a threshold level of time tracking accuracy, wherein the sub-THz band may have a higher synchronization pilot reference signal overhead. In some cases, the tracking loop accuracy (and the corresponding residual time drift) may depend on the effective synchronization pilot reference signal periodicity (synchronization signal block (SSB) + tracking reference signal (TRS) + effective rate of PDSCH allocation). The achievable accuracy may also depend on the UE SNR that determines the open-loop estimation variance residual level (e.g., so as not to limit the corresponding operating MCS).
[0098] However, in some cases, the technique of updating the time and frequency tracking loop estimates may increase synchronization reference signal overhead (SSB and TRS overhead) and will limit UE sleep time opportunities and the duration of sleep time opportunities, which may result in reduced power efficiency and battery life of UE 115-a. Although denser inter-slot DMRS patterns may increase channel estimation accuracy and reduce phase offset errors, increasing the density of the DMRS pattern may also increase downlink signaling overhead.
[0099] In order to mitigate the impact of residual accumulated STO across time slots while reducing overhead and processing complexity, the wireless communication system may support narrowband reference signals (or reference signaling patterns), such as TDRS implemented in addition to (or in addition to) the sparse inter-slot DMRS pattern for multi-slot allocation. In some examples, in addition to the multi-slot PDSCH allocation, the TDRS pattern may be allocated and may be coupled to the sparse inter-slot broadband DMRS pattern (e.g., the narrowband reference signal pattern may not be periodic in time, such as SSB, TRS, or any other synchronization reference signal for time and frequency tracking loops). In some examples, the TDRS pattern may be allocated with a higher inter-slot density (e.g., relative to the inter-slot DMRS pattern) achieved across the multi-slot allocation, and may support residual STO and timing drift estimation and correction for PDSCH intermediate slots between slots with DMRS. In some examples, TDRS may have reduced complexity compared to the allocation of broadband DMRS symbols, and may further support the reduction of residual STO and associated error vector magnitude (EVM).
[0100] In some examples, the inter-slot pattern and density of TDRS (and the bandwidth associated with the narrowband reference signal) can be dynamically configured based on multiple dynamic factors such as UE SNR, residual ppm error, timing drift rate, effective synchronization pilot signal or reference signal periodicity (e.g., effective rate of SSB+TRS+PDSCH allocation), and inter-slot DMRS pattern. In some examples, the TDRS signal waveform can be an SC-OFDM waveform allocated using continuous resource elements. In order to reduce overhead, the bandwidth occupied by the narrowband reference signal can be relatively low (e.g., compared to DMRS) but above a threshold to support accurate STO estimation. In this case, the bandwidth of TDRS can be dynamically configured to address different UE reception conditions (e.g., SNR or operating MCS).
[0101] In some examples, in addition to the sparse DMRS pattern, the network may also configure (e.g., via control signaling 215) a sparse inter-slot TDRS pattern to increase channel estimation accuracy while reducing complexity and signaling overhead. The inter-slot TDRS pattern may allow for lower power channel estimation relative to DMRS, and may allow for a higher sparsity level (or lower inter-slot density) of the inter-slot DMRS pattern to further reduce DMRS overhead, reduce UE complexity, and reduce power associated with channel estimation and equalization.
[0102] TDRS can be implemented to enhance channel estimation and correct uncompensated STO (due to inter-slot time drift that can cause phase deviation in the frequency domain or inter-slot interference in the time domain). For example, TDRS can be implemented for SC-OFDM on symbols or time slots between DMRS symbols. Thus, TDRS can take into account the time drift that may occur between relatively far DMRS symbols.
[0103] In some specific implementations, the network entity 105-a may use procedure 205 to multiplex TDRS with a downlink shared channel (e.g., PDSCH). Although the data in the PDSCH may be sent using an SC-FDM waveform, in order to capture the residual STO in the frequency domain based on the TDRS, the TDRS may be sent using an OFDM waveform. In order to multiplex TDRS (e.g., OFDM-based) and PDSCH (e.g., SC-FDM-based) on the same symbol, the network entity may first perform DFT pre-coding with size M applied to M PDSCH data symbols. The network entity 105-a may generate FD TDRS complex symbols and a TDRS pattern or sequence of size L. In some examples, the size L may be determined based on the UE allocated bandwidth or the PDSCH allocated bandwidth (e.g., N REs) and M (e.g., the number of PDSCH data symbols).
[0104] To enable the use of efficient discrete Fourier transform (DFT) and inverse discrete Fourier transform (IDFT) implementation algorithms, the TDRS size (e.g., L) may be determined by a threshold associated with the PDSCH data size (M) for the SC-OFDM waveform, where the full allocated size (N) for data carrying OFDM symbols is determined by 2 a ·3 b 5 c , where a, b, and c are positive integers. Accordingly, a valid TDRS size (L) value may be defined based on one or more values of N and M, such that L=NM.
[0105] In some examples, the network entity 105-a may concatenate L TDRS resource elements and M post-DFT PDSCH resource elements into a single frequency domain vector of size N, which corresponds to the full PDSCH allocation size on an OFDM symbol without TDRS. The network entity 105-a may then apply an N-IFFT operation to the concatenated resource elements. The network entity 105-a may send the resulting time domain vector via a time domain signal (e.g., associated with a UE allocation at a scheduled time in a sub-THz band). In addition, the network entity 105-a may add a time domain sample vector based on the last K samples. In some cases, several UE allocations may be multiplexed together in the frequency domain, and several UE allocations may be concatenated in the frequency domain before an inverse fast Fourier transform (IFFT).
[0106] Since the ppm error is common to all layers or ports of the network entity 105-a, the introduced time drift will also be the same on all layers. Therefore, the network entity 105-a may assign TDRS to a single layer or port (e.g., the network entity 105-a may send data using two or more layers). Figure 2 The example depicted in exemplifies single layer transmission for both TDRS and PDSCH, but the procedure can be extended for more than single layer SC-OFDM PDSCH transmission scenarios without changing the TDRS allocation.
[0107] In addition to the multiplexing procedures for PDSCH and TDRS performed by the network entity 105-a, the UE 115-a may implement various techniques to receive and process the TDRS multiplexed with the PDSCH using procedure 210. The UE 115-a may apply N fast Fourier transform (FFT) operations to the received time domain vector, which contains the multiplexed TDRS and PDSCH samples. After the FFT operation, the UE 115-a may extract the resource elements corresponding to the TDRS and may use the resource elements to estimate the STO. In this case, the UE 115-a performs channel estimation based on the last DMRS symbol available before TDRS processing. The UE 115-a may implement channel estimation (CHEST) to perform minimum mean square error (MMSE) equalization and maximum ratio combining (MRC) on the TDRS resource elements. UE 115-a may estimate STO and may use the estimated STO to apply sampling offset timing correction to PDSCH resource elements in the frequency domain, including all next PDSCH symbols until the next TDRS or DMRS symbol opportunity. Additionally or alternatively, UE 115-a may correct PDSCH channel estimation based on the estimated STO.
[0108] In some other examples, UE 115-a may perform interpolation of the estimated STO for intermediate data OFDM symbols (e.g., between consecutive TDRS and DMRS symbols). After performing STO correction, UE 115-a may perform M IDFT operations on the PDSCH to extract the PDSCH TD symbols to be used for the remainder of the receiver chain processing.
[0109] Figure 3 An example of a wireless communication system 300 supporting a signaling mode for TDRS according to one or more aspects of the present disclosure is illustrated. For example, the wireless communication system 300 may support communication between a UE 115-b and a network entity 105-b, which may be a reference Figure 1 and Figure 2 Examples of corresponding devices described.
[0110] The wireless communication system 300 may be an example of a sub-THz system supporting high frequency communications. The wireless communication system 300 may employ a signaling pattern of sparse inter-slot DMRS and sparse inter-slot TDRS (which is complementary to the inter-slot DMRS pattern) across a multi-slot allocation 305, which may be used for additional or supplemental channel estimation between DMRS symbols. In this example, the multi-slot allocation 305 includes 8 slots (slot 1 to slot 8).
[0111] The network entity 105-b may send (e.g., via RRC, DCI, or other control signaling 315) an indication of a sparse inter-slot DMRS pattern (e.g., including symbols for DMRS 320) for a multi-slot allocation 305 (e.g., a giant allocation), where in this example, each slot duration is 14 symbols. Here, the DMRS pattern indicates one symbol of DMRS 320 (e.g., the 4th symbol in slot 1) across 8 slots of the multi-slot allocation 305 (or 1 symbol every 8 slots). The network entity 105-b may send the control signaling 315 via a physical downlink control channel (PDCCH). In some examples, the control signaling 315 may also indicate a sparse inter-slot TDRS pattern (e.g., including TDRS 325) that is complementary to the sparse inter-slot DMRS pattern. In this example, the sparse inter-slot TDRS pattern indicates one symbol of TDRS 325 in each of slots 3, slot 5, and slot 7 (or 3 symbols every 8 slots). In some examples, the inter-slot DMRS pattern can be RRC-configured by selecting a configuration option corresponding to the DMRS symbol allocation on the first slot from 8 consecutive slots of the multi-slot allocation 305. Additionally or alternatively, the TDRS inter-slot pattern can be configured or signaled so that the inter-slot TDRS pattern is complementary to the inter-slot DMRS pattern. For example, in the multi-slot allocation 305, DMRS 320 is allocated according to the first inter-slot pattern, and TDRS 325 is allocated on the fourth symbol on each second slot where DMRS is not allocated, and STO estimation is allowed every 28 OFDM symbols. In this case, UE 115-b may perform STO correction based on STO estimation (e.g., zero-order hold) based on the most recent (e.g., closest in time) TDRS or DMRS symbol, or UE 115-b may perform STO correction based on linear interpolation between two estimates of consecutive TDRS and DMRS symbols. In some other examples, UE 115-b may implement STO forward prediction techniques to further take into account accumulated STO.
[0112] In some examples, the network entity 105-b may adjust the inter-slot TDRS pattern over time to align with a threshold (e.g., expected) measured residual (e.g., ppm err). In such examples, the inter-slot TDRS pattern may be designed so that the EVM degradation due to STO mismatch remains below a predefined threshold.
[0113] In some cases, the network entity 105-b may implement a single DCI schedule for multiple slots associated with the multi-slot allocation 305. In the case where a single DCI schedules multiple back-to-back slots, a subset of the scheduled slots may be allocated using symbols carrying DMRS (e.g., using a sparse inter-slot DMRS pattern) or symbols carrying supplemental TDRS allocations (e.g., using a sparse inter-slot TDRS pattern).
[0114] In some cases, a sparse inter-slot TDRS pattern may be allocated and applied based on whether UE 115-b also supports a sparse inter-slot DMRS pattern (e.g., based on corresponding UE capabilities for inter-slot DMRS). UE 115-b may send a capability to support TDRS to notify network entity 105-b of the capability to support inter-slot TDRS.
[0115] In some examples, the inter-slot DMRS pattern and the corresponding inter-slot TDRS pattern may be dynamically configured, statically configured, or semi-statically configured. For example, the configuration for the inter-slot DMRS and the inter-slot TDRS may be configured via RRC signaling, DCI, or MAC-CE. In one example, the inter-slot TDRS pattern on the multi-slot allocation 305 may be dynamically signaled based on a DCI coupled to the inter-slot DMRS pattern (e.g., using an additional bitmap in the DCI). In such examples, the inter-slot TDRS pattern may be dynamically signaled because the sensitivity of the residual uncorrected STO may be based on channel conditions (e.g., UE SNR, UE MCS), and because the residual time drift may be further based on the SNR (e.g., tracking loop accuracy).
[0116] In some other examples, the inter-slot TDRS pattern can be coupled to the MCS and inter-slot DMRS pattern via an RRC-configured table. For example, the entries of the RRC-configured table can be based on the MCS signaled in the DCI and the RRC-configured inter-slot DMRS pattern. In this case, the inter-slot TDRS pattern can be RRC-configured (e.g., rather than dynamically signaled).
[0117] In some implementations, the inter-slot TDRS pattern may be determined based on the inter-slot DMRS pattern. For example, the inter-slot TDRS pattern may reuse one or more DMRS configurations so that parameters configured for the DMRS (e.g., the first DMRS symbol position and DMRS sequence generation parameters) may also be reused or applied to the TDRS. In some examples, the TDRS may be assigned to a single port or a single layer (e.g., via RRC configuration or otherwise predefined), which should be quasi-co-located with one of the DMRS ports associated with the inter-slot DMRS.
[0118] In some cases, the TDRS position in the frequency domain (e.g., contiguous resource elements in the frequency domain) may be configured on the upper edge or lower edge of the data allocation (e.g., as predefined or configured and signaled via RRC, DCI, or MAC-CE). Additionally or alternatively, the TDRS bandwidth may be dynamically configurable (e.g., via DCI or MAC-CE), or may be coupled to the MCS index and allocated bandwidth based on the RRC-configured MCS and one or more allocation thresholds. In some examples, the transport block size may be based on the inter-slot TDRS allocation and the DMRS allocation. In some examples, the UE 115-b may implement rate matching for the DMRS 320, but may not implement rate matching for receiving the TDRS allocation.
[0119] In some cases, the sequence used to generate TDRS 325 can be a low peak-to-average power ratio (PAPR) sequence to complement the low PAPR conditions associated with SC-OFDM waveforms implemented for sub-THz systems. In some examples, the TDRS sequence can be the same as (or can be based on) one or more existing DMRS sequences, and various DMRS definitions and parameters can be reused for TDRS 325.
[0120] The use of inter-slot TDRS patterns may consume less power (from the perspective of both UE 115-b and network entity 105-b) and may have lower complexity than allocating a full DMRS 320 (e.g., one or more DMRS 320 per slot) for channel estimation. The use of additional TDRS patterns may also allow for higher sparsity levels (e.g., lower inter-slot density) for the inter-slot DMRS patterns to further reduce DMRS 320 overhead and UE complexity associated with channel estimation and equalization.
[0121] FIG.4 illustrates an example of a process flow 400 for supporting a signaling mode for TDRS according to one or more aspects of the present disclosure. The process flow 400 may be performed by a network entity 105-c and a UE 115-c, which may be examples of corresponding devices described herein. In some examples, the process flow 400 may illustrate an exemplary sequence of operations performed to support a complementary narrowband TDRS for a space-time slot inter-DMRS pattern in a sub-THz band. It will be understood that one or more operations described in the process flow 400 may be performed, omitted, replaced, supplemented, or combined with another operation earlier or later in the process. In addition, additional operations described herein that are not included in the process flow 400 may be included in the process flow 400.
[0122] At 405 , the UE 115 - c may send one or more messages indicating that the UE 115 - c supports the ability to receive DMRS and TDRS according to one or more signaling patterns.
[0123] At 410, the network entity 105-c may configure one or more first signaling modes (e.g., inter-slot DMRS modes) for one or more DMRS and one or more second signaling modes (e.g., inter-slot TDRS modes) for one or more TDRS, the first signaling mode corresponding to the second signaling mode.
[0124] At 415, the network entity 105-c may send one or more control messages, and the UE 115-c may receive one or more control messages, which indicate a first signaling mode for one or more DMRS via (e.g., one or more) TTI sets and a second signaling mode for one or more TDRS via a TTI set. In some cases, the network entity 105-c may send the first signaling mode and the second signaling mode based on the ability of the UE 115-c to support DMRS and TDRS. In some examples, the UE 115-c may receive a first indication of the first signaling mode via an RRC message, and may then receive a second indication of the second signaling mode via a DCI message. In some examples, the UE 115-c may receive a DCI message coupled with the first signaling mode via a bitmap included in the DCI message. In some examples, a sequence associated with one or more TDRS is configured as a low PAPR sequence.
[0125] In some specific implementations, the UE 115-c may receive a table via one or more control messages indicating a first (e.g., one or more) signaling pattern set for one or more DMRS, a second (e.g., one or more) signaling pattern set for one or more TDRS, and an MCS set associated with the first set of signaling patterns and the second set of signaling patterns. The UE 115-c may select a first signaling pattern from the first set of signaling patterns, a second signaling pattern from the second set of signaling patterns, and an MCS from the MCS set. In this case, based on the received table, the MCS is associated with the first signaling pattern and the second signaling pattern. In some examples, the UE 115-c may receive an indication of one or more allocated bandwidth thresholds associated with one or more TDRS. In such examples, the bandwidth associated with the one or more TDRS is based on the MCS and the one or more allocated bandwidth thresholds.
[0126] In some other examples, the UE 115-c may apply one or more parameters associated with the first signaling pattern (e.g., DMRS parameters such as a first DMRS position, one or more DMRS generation parameters) to obtain a second signaling pattern. In some examples, one or more TDRSs may be assigned to a single antenna port that is quasi-co-located with at least one antenna port associated with the one or more DMRSs. In some other examples, the UE 115-c may receive a frequency domain allocation for the one or more TDRSs, the frequency domain allocation indicating a first set of resources allocated for the one or more TDRSs relative to a second (e.g., one or more) set of resources allocated for data.
[0127] At 420, UE 115-c may receive a downlink shared channel (e.g., a PDSCH), one or more DMRSs, and a TDRS via a TTI set. In some examples, the downlink shared channel may be multiplexed with one or more DMRSs according to a first signaling mode, and may be multiplexed with one or more TDRSs according to a second signaling mode. In some examples, the first signaling mode may correspond to a first allocation periodicity of one or more DMRSs. UE 115-c may receive a downlink shared channel multiplexed with one or more TDRSs according to a second signaling mode. In this case, the second signaling mode may correspond to a second allocation periodicity associated with the first allocation periodicity (e.g., the second allocation periodicity may be complementary to the first allocation periodicity).
[0128] UE 115-c may receive one or more DMRS according to a first signaling pattern and a first allocation periodicity, and may receive one or more TDRS according to a second signaling pattern and a second allocation periodicity. In some examples, the second allocation periodicity may be greater than the first allocation periodicity (e.g., UE 115-c may receive TDRS more frequently than DMRS).
[0129] In some examples, UE 115-c may perform an STO calibration procedure based on the identified STO using one or more measurements associated with one or more DMRS of the first signaling mode, one or more TDRS of the second signaling mode, or both. In some cases, UE 115-c may perform an STO calibration procedure using measurements associated with the DMRS or TDRS that is closest in time to the identified STO. In some other cases, UE 115-c may perform a timing offset calibration procedure using measurements associated with one or more consecutive DMRS, one or more consecutive TDRS, or a linear interpolation between the two. In some examples, UE 115-c may receive an indication to adjust the second signaling mode based on the STO being greater than an STO threshold, and UE 115-c may receive one or more TDRS according to the adjusted second signaling mode.
