[0007] Therefore, it may be desirable to provide new methods, devices, and systems for providing LED light therapy and vibration therapy to a user in a mask. The present disclosure is a mask system that combines light therapy technology of different wavelengths (e.g., red, blue, amber, and / or infrared) with low amplitude vibration therapy. By combining the two treatments, the benefits of LED light therapy (e.g., increased collagen, reduction in acne-causing bacteria, etc.) are enhanced by the increase in blood and oxygen flow produced by the vibration therapy.
[0008] In some embodiments, light therapy is delivered by an array of monochromatic and / or multicolor light emitting diodes (LEDs) attached to, secured within, or otherwise associated with the mask (e.g., attached to the inner surface of the mask, secured between mask layers, etc.) In some embodiments, the device may have 10-1000 LEDs, and in some embodiments include 200-300 LEDs.
[0009] In some embodiments, vibration therapy treatment is delivered by several small amplitude vibrating electric motors placed throughout the mask, attached to the mask, secured within the mask, or otherwise associated with the mask (e.g., attached to the inner surface of the mask, secured between mask layers, etc.).
[0010] In some embodiments, the device and / or system further comprises a software application downloadable to a portable electronic device having the ability to control therapy and construct different protocols (treatment plans) via Bluetooth or the like.
[0011] In some embodiments, the device includes a proximity sensor that detects the distance between the device and the user's face to dim and / or turn off the LED (or other treatment options) and prevent eye safety or other skin safety issues or concerns.
[0012] In one embodiment, an example mask apparatus is described. The mask apparatus includes a mask portion, an eye portion coupled to an inner layer of the mask portion, one or more openings extending through the mask portion and the eye portion, and a strap coupled to the mask portion. The mask portion includes an outer layer, one or more intermediate layers including a plurality of light emitting diodes (LEDs) and one or more printed circuit board (PCB) components, and an inner layer. The eye portion includes a silicone layer configured to cover an area around a user's eyes and a first plurality of vibration motors encapsulated in the silicone layer. [0047] This article describes and Figure 1-3 Shown in is a facial mask and system that includes vibration therapy and light therapy (eg, LED or any type of light). Examples of LED skin therapy are described in U.S. Patents 6,524,329 and 6,974,224, the entire contents of which are incorporated herein by reference.
[0048] Figure 1-2 A mask system 10 is shown that combines light therapy techniques of different wavelengths (e.g., red, blue, amber, and / or infrared) with low amplitude vibration therapy. In some embodiments, the mask system 10 (and its mask portion 12) at least partially covers and targets the user's face and neck (or one or the other thereof) and can be secured to the user's head and body to remain stationary during treatment.
[0049] In some embodiments, Figure 1 As shown, the mask portion 12 is shaped to fit on the wearer's face and may include eye, nostril / nose, mouth and / or ear openings 14. In some embodiments, the mask portion 12 includes a plurality of LEDs 16 and a vibration device 18 disposed throughout the mask portion 12. Figure 1 As shown, the LEDs may be uniformly (or randomly and non-uniformly) placed anywhere within or between the dashed lines shown. In addition, the vibration device 18 may be disposed at a plurality of locations throughout the mask portion 12 to cause the mask portion to vibrate. Figure 1 Twelve vibration devices 18 are shown. However, any number between 1 and 100 or more vibration devices may be included. In some embodiments, the mask portion 12 may include a proximity sensor that detects the distance between the device and the user's face to dim and / or turn off the LEDs (or other treatment options) and prevent eye safety or other skin safety issues or concerns. In some embodiments, when the proximity sensor does not detect a face, the LEDs 16 may operate below a predetermined threshold (e.g., 20% power). When the proximity sensor detects that the user's face is within a predetermined distance of the mask portion 12, the mask portion 12 may activate the LEDs 16 to full processing power.
[0050] like Figure 2 As shown, the mask system 10 can include multiple layers that form a mask portion 12. Figure 2Three mask layers are shown including an inner layer 20, a middle layer 22, and an outer layer 24. In some embodiments, the LEDs 16 and the vibration devices 18 are connected to and powered by one or more flexible PCB members 26. The LEDs 16 and the vibration devices 18 can be on the same flexible PCB members 26, or the LEDs 16 and the vibration devices 18 can be on separate flexible PCB members 26. It should be understood that the electrical connectors are part of the flexible PCB members 26 and connect the various LEDs 16 and the vibration devices 18. The LEDs 16, the vibration devices 18, and the flexible PCB members 26 are collectively referred to herein as the therapeutic layer 27.
[0051] In some embodiments, the therapeutic layer 27 is secured between the inner layer 20 and the middle layer 22. The flexible PCB member 26 may be adhered or attached to the inner surface of the middle layer 22 so that light from the LEDs is directed through the inner layer 20 and toward the wearer's skin. In an exemplary embodiment, the inner layer 20 may be made of silicone (other comfortable or rubber materials), the middle layer 22 may be made of thermoplastic elastomer (TPE) or other materials, and the outer layer 24 may be made of polycarbonate (PC) or other rigid materials to give the mask portion 12 shape.
[0052] In another embodiment, the therapeutic layer can be between the intermediate layer and the outer layer, or when one or more intermediate layers are omitted, between the inner layer and the outer layer. In another embodiment, the therapeutic layer can be disposed on the inner surface of the inner layer. It should be understood that two or more layers (or a single layer) of a mask portion are within the scope of the present disclosure.
[0053] like Figure 2 As shown, in some embodiments, the mask system 10 includes a battery 28 and a main PCB 30 fixed to the outer surface of the outer layer 24 (e.g., on the forehead portion, but can be located elsewhere on the mask), which are fixed by a housing or cap 32. In some embodiments, the cap 32 can be made of polycarbonate (PC). The mask system can also include a female jack for charging the battery and one or more switches or buttons for turning the light and vibration device on and off and / or changing the speed or amplitude of the vibration device or the intensity of the light. The switch can also be used to change between different light ranges or wavelengths for different treatments. Figure 3 An exemplary vibration device 18 is shown that may be used in the present disclosure.
[0054] Figure 4-7 Pictures of some embodiments of the disclosure are shown. Figure 4-5 The outer layer 24 mentioned above is shown, but here it is an intermediate layer 24 having a recess 34 for accommodating a battery 28 and a main PCB 30. In this embodiment, instead of having a cover for the battery and PCB (or in addition to the cover), Figure 6An exemplary outermost or front layer of a mask system is shown that serves as a cap 32 for a recess 34 . Figure 7 A flexible PCB member 26 is shown with contacts showing where the LED 16 and the vibration device 18 (micromotor) are electrically connected. Figure 8 Another exemplary vibration device 18 that can be used is shown. A micromotor is shown with an eccentric weight that rotates and causes vibration.
[0055] Figure 9-13 4 shows a mask assembly 40 according to some embodiments of the present disclosure. Generally, the mask assembly 40 includes an eye mask portion 42 and an extension portion 44. The eye mask portion 42 is similar to a set of goggles that cover and surround the eyes. Fig. 9 As shown, in some embodiments, the eye mask portion 42 includes a vibration motor or device 18 therein that provides vibration therapy to the area around the user's eyes (see, for example, Figure 3 ) and LEDs 16 that provide light therapy. In some embodiments, the vibrating device 18 is housed in a pocket 45 that extends outward from the mask portion 42 (extending further toward the wearer's skin than the remainder of the surface facing the wearer's skin) to form a contact point against the wearer's face. For example, if six vibrating devices (such as Fig. 9 As shown in FIG. 4 , the six pockets, which may be made of a soft material such as silicone, are six contact points against the user's skin. The LED 16 may be located anywhere within the eye mask portion 42, such as Fig. 9 shown.
[0056] In some embodiments, the eye mask portion includes an outer cover or lens 48 that allows the user to see through it. In another embodiment, the outer cover or shell may include a hole therein for the user to see through. In some embodiments, the device includes components (panels, deflectors, channels, etc.) therein that protect the wearer's eyes and prevent the LEDs from shining or emitting light into the wearer's eyes.
[0057] In some embodiments, the extension 44 includes a light therapy LED 16 but does not include a vibration device. Fig.10As shown, the extension portion 44 is spaced or offset from the wearer's face or skin and does not contact the wearer's face or skin. For example, the extension portion 44 may be spaced 2-3 cm from the user's face. Thus, the only point of contact with the wearer's face or skin (other than the strap 46 that holds the device thereon) is around the eye area (via the eye mask portion 42). The extension portion 44 provides the ability to increase the treatment area of the LEDs from only the area around the eyes. In some embodiments, the extension portion 44 extends upward to at least partially cover the forehead and extends downward to at least partially cover the lower half of the face. In another embodiment, some portion of the extension portion may contact the wearer's face. As shown in FIG. Fig.10 As shown, in some embodiments, the extension 44 includes a housing 50 having a transparent interior portion to allow the LED 16 to shine therethrough. Thus, the housing 50 houses the LED and the necessary PCB.
[0058] In some embodiments, the mask assembly 40 includes a power source, such as a rechargeable battery, and necessary electronics, such as a controller, PCB, user interface, buttons, etc. In some embodiments, these components are located within the eye mask portion.
[0059] like Figure 11-13 As shown, in some embodiments, the mask assembly 40 includes a hinge assembly 52 that extends vertically along the center of the mask to allow the eye mask portion 42 and the extension portion 44 and one or both of the shell and its other components to expand outwardly or inwardly so that the device can be adapted to fit on the heads of different wearers (whose sizes are different). The hinge assembly 52 allows the two outer panels 54 to move outwardly (to fit a larger head / face) or inwardly (to fit a smaller head / face). In some embodiments, the device includes a hinge cover 56 for covering and hiding the hinge assembly 52.
