Description

Technical Field

[0001] The present disclosure belongs to the field of designing ophthalmic lenses. More specifically, the present disclosure relates to a method for visualizing different vision zones on an ophthalmic lens, an ophthalmic device and components thereof. Background Art

[0002] There are different kinds of spectacle lenses, including single vision lenses, bifocal lenses, trifocal lenses, progressive addition lenses or extended focus lenses. Progressive addition lenses (also called multifocal lenses) are designed to smoothly and gradually transition from a distance prescription in the upper section of the lens to a near prescription. This enables the wearer to see the entire range of things from the far focal distance to the near focal distance, and anything in between. Progressive addition lenses have become the lens of choice for most people with presbyopia because it helps the viewer see things at all focus distances without any visible lines. Progressive addition lenses (hereinafter referred to as PALs) are formed so that the following items are arranged in one lens: a "distance vision zone" for providing a specified distance prescription; a "near vision zone" for providing a specified additional power for a near prescription; and an "intermediate (progressive) zone" in which the power is gradually increased between the distance vision zone and the near vision zone.

[0003] With regard to such a progressive addition lens, when the focal power distribution is designed on the lens, in the use state of the lens, a focal power change is given to the progressive addition lens from the far vision zone at the upper part of the lens toward the near vision zone at the lower part of the lens according to a specific focal power change curve. Then, with regard to the focal power distribution in the horizontal direction (left-right direction) in the use state of the lens, the focal power is generally changed while ensuring the required width of the visual field. More specifically, for example, in the near vision zone, the horizontal focal power distribution is set to gradually decrease toward both sides, with the near vision passing point at the vertex on the channel. Although the focal powers of the left and right lenses are reduced at substantially the same rate, the focal power gradient at the nasal side may be relatively steeper than the focal power gradient at the temporal side relative to the offset (inset).

[0004] However, PALs may produce aberrational blur, which may in particular reduce the field of view and induce distortion, resulting in, for example, the well-known swimming effect. More specifically, due to the variation in curvature, most points on the lens surface have a certain degree of cylinder (i.e., surface astigmatism). The surface astigmatism varies across the surface: it is relatively low in the intermediate zone, but gradually increases as it enters the blending region on the sides, resulting in higher degrees of unwanted astigmatism, which may be perceived by the wearer as blur, distortion and image swimming. The design is necessarily a compromise between these aberrations. It is also known that some design features of progressive lenses are adjusted according to the wearer for whom the lens is designed, in particular in order to reduce the time required for the wearer to adapt to such progressive lenses. Summary of the invention

[0005] Many patients experience adaptation problems when they wear glasses. This is especially true when wearing PALs (progressive addition lenses). Therefore, adapting to new lenses is a common problem among patients, especially for patients who are prescribed PALs for the first time. One of the main reasons for discomfort is that patients do not understand the lens design and how to best look through the various visual zones. It should be understood that the lens optical design is not easy to explain verbally without a clear visualization showing the optical profile features. Even if such a visualization is provided to the patient in the form of an optical mapper (such as a DLM, etc.) on a computer screen or as a hard copy before wearing the glasses, it will not make the adaptation of the new lenses easier because the exposure to the optical profile features is too short for the patient. In addition, several optical designs can also be proposed to the patient. In order to be able to choose between the designs, commercially available smart tools attempt to explain the differences between them and show the advantages of one optical design over another. Conventionally, it is done by providing a comparison of optical analysis that requires experience and expertise. Therefore, there is a need in the art to display optical profile features on the lens surface to simplify the design layout and make it intuitive and easy to explain. Design drawings can help patients better understand lens design and how to best use the glasses. A better understanding of lens design and correctly looking through the lens optical zone can reduce the number of complaints and improve customer satisfaction. In particular, it should be noted that the optical profile characteristics of each PAL are different. The contour characteristics of the design on the lens surface are affected by the optical design, patient prescription, frame and other aspects. Typically, the optics of a PAL can be (and are generally) represented by a graph using a contour distribution diagram. This diagram indicates how the optical properties vary across the lens surface: the cylindrical lens diagram shows the potential blur / distortion area and can be used to predict the width and size of the visual zone, while the focal power contour diagram shows the distribution of the additional focal power across the lens and indicates the location of the near vision zone.

[0006] Thus, according to a broad aspect of the present disclosure, a method for visualizing different visual zones on an ophthalmic lens is provided. The method includes: receiving a calculated optical design profile feature indicative of a correction for a specific patient; creating physical representation data of an optical design profile feature corresponding to the personalized optical design profile feature; wherein the optical design profile feature is configured and operable to enable design profile feature visualization and identify primary visual zones including a distance vision zone and a near vision zone. The term "profile feature" hereinafter refers to the shape (e.g., size and width) of a plurality of regions as defined by a profile distribution map. The technology of the presently disclosed subject matter is configured to mark each lens with a calculated unique design profile feature.

[0007] In some embodiments, the personalized optical design profile feature includes: a plurality of profiles representing a profile graph, the plurality of profiles defining different optical regions having different parameters of the optical design profile feature; and a plurality of regions defined between the profiles.

[0008] In some embodiments, the method further comprises coloring or patterning a plurality of regions defined between the optical design profiles. Coloring or patterning a plurality of regions defined between the optical design profiles may comprise differently marking a plurality of regions having different parameters. The plurality of profiles may comprise a cylindrical lens profile or a focal power profile.

[0009] In some embodiments, the method further comprises applying a physical optical design profile feature to at least a portion of at least one of the anterior or posterior surfaces of the lens.

[0010] The markings may be temporary or permanent. Temporary markings enable the lens to be configured according to the wearer's prescription and provide him with temporary markings as an adaptation tool. After the wearer has adapted, he can simply remove the sticker / removable ink. Permanent markings are often used as demonstration tools at ECP stores (e.g., on plano lenses). The marking of the lens can be achieved by drawing / printing design contour features on the lens surface. The drawing / printing may be cylindrical contour features or power contour features. The cylindrical lines indicate the areas where the patient should not look, while the power lines indicate the areas where the patient should look. Via the lens design control unit, the design contour features may be drawn / printed individually and uniquely for each lens order. Therefore, the contour features printed on each lens are personal (not generic or pre-made), but take into account the optical design, patient prescription, frame and other aspects.

[0011] In some embodiments, the method further includes applying physical optical design profile features to at least one of the front surface or the back surface includes printing the physical optical design profile features onto at least one of the front surface or the back surface.

[0012] In some embodiments, the method further comprises applying physical optical design profile features to at least one of the front or back surfaces, comprising applying physical permanent optical design profile features to at least one of the front or back surfaces.

[0013] In some embodiments, the method further includes applying a physical permanent optical design profile feature to at least one of the front or back surfaces including engraving a physical optical design profile onto at least one of the front or back surfaces mechanically or by using a laser.

[0014] In some embodiments, the method further includes applying physical optical design profile features to at least one of the front or back surfaces including attaching physical temporary optical design profile features to at least one of the front or back surfaces.

[0018] In some embodiments, the method further comprises calculating optical design profile features indicative of correction for a specific patient.

[0019] The presently disclosed subject matter can help ECPs (eye care professionals) clarify, educate, and demonstrate the proper practical operation of eyeglasses and / or the differences between optical designs. By showing the patient the primary vision zones, the ECP can clearly explain to the patient how to effectively see through the lens, where the primary vision zones are, how to move from distance vision to near vision, and how to best utilize the lens in daily activities. Lenses with different designs can be manufactured and labeled with their respective design profile features. The differences between the designs become visible, and the properties of the various designs are more easily demonstrated and explained.

[0020] The patient can be trained as follows: When the patient arrives at the ECP to pick up his finished glasses, the ECP can provide the patient with glasses marked with removable ink or stickers. He explains to the patient how to look through the lens according to the outline of the marking: if the marking / sticker represents a cylinder distribution map, he is instructed to look through the remaining transparent part of the lens; if the marking / sticker represents a power distribution map, he is instructed to look from the distance vision zone to the marked part of the near vision zone. He should look according to the ECP's instructions for a few minutes to adapt (which means that he can see things clearly and "switch" between zones effortlessly without blurring / swimming), and when he is satisfied with the experience, the ECP can erase the ink marking / remove the sticker.

[0045] refer to Figure 1 , which shows a flow chart illustrating the main steps of a method for visualizing different visual zones on an ophthalmic lens. The method 100 may include receiving a calculated optical design profile feature indicating a correction for a specific patient, and creating physical representation data of an optical design profile feature corresponding to the personalized optical design profile feature in 102. The optical design profile feature is configured and operable to enable design profile feature visualization, and to identify the main visual zones including the distance vision zone and the near vision zone according to the lens specified design. The physical optical design profile feature may include a cylindrical lens profile feature or a focal power profile feature. The method 100 may include the following initial optional stage: calculating the optical design profile feature indicating the correction for the specific patient in 106. This stage may be performed by a control unit, as will be further described below.

[0046] After generating the profile feature visualization, method 100 may include the following further optional stage: applying the physical optical design profile feature to at least a portion of at least one front surface or back surface of the lens in 104. The front surface and / or back surface of the lens may contain the physical optical design profile feature. The physical optical design profile feature may include multiple regions representing different areas of the optical profile feature. Therefore, the multiple regions of the physical optical design profile feature may be fully displayed on the front surface or the back surface of the lens. Alternatively, a portion of the multiple regions of the physical optical design profile feature may be displayed on the front surface, and a portion of the multiple regions may be displayed on the back surface of the lens.

[0047] refer to Figure 2 , showing Figure 1 104. Applying the physical optical design profile features to at least a portion of the front surface and / or the back surface of the lens may include permanent marking in 200 or temporary marking in 210. The marking may be performed in different ways.

[0048] Here are a few examples of permanent markers:

[0049] Physical optical design contour features can be subtle lines engraved on the lens surface by laser or mechanical engraving machine, as will be described below. Figure 4 Further illustrated in .

[0050] The physical optical design profile feature may be a permanent or semi-permanent coating on the front and / or back surface of the lens. The semi-permanent coating may remain permanent for a predetermined period of time corresponding to the period of time required to adjust the patient, and will passively disappear completely after this period of time.

[0051] exist Figure 2 In a specific non-limiting example, the permanent mark may include the engraving process in 200. The engraving process 200 may include the following optional stages: RX production of the lens based on the patient's prescription in 204. The optional stage of RX production in 204 may or may not be a stage of the engraving process. For example, a third party (i.e., a lens production entity) may provide the lens after applying the appropriate optical profile feature correction to the lens according to the personalized prescription. Then, the engraving process 200 may include engraving the design contour achieved by laser in 202A, or the design contour achieved by mechanical engraving using diamond in 202B. After engraving the design contour, it may be optional to engrave the staining 206, in which color is applied within the defined contour to visualize different optical areas. The stage of coloring different areas of the optical profile feature is optional, and the contour may be sufficient to visualize different optical areas. Staining can be achieved by using any commercially available ink, coating, marker or paint. Additionally or alternatively, different areas of the optical profile feature may be patterned differently to visualize the differences between the areas. The application of the pattern can be achieved together with the engraving of the outline by using the same engraving technology or without using the same engraving technology, or after the engraving of the outline. The marked lens can then be optionally mounted in a frame at 208 .

[0052] Here are a few examples of temporary tags:

[0053] Physical optical design outline features can be temporary patterns using ink used for other temporary markings, such as lens points, optical center, etc. This printing can be erased when no longer needed;

[0054] The physical optical design profile feature may be in the form of an adhesive physical optical design profile feature (i.e., a sticker) that can be positioned on the front lens surface and / or the back lens surface in the correct orientation and removed when necessary after patient adaptation. The sticker may be implemented as a single piece, or by multiple pieces that are configured to be attached to the lens together or individually.

[0055] exist Figure 2In a specific non-limiting example of , the temporary marking 210 includes a temporary marking representing a design contour drawing on the lens surface. The lens to be marked may or may not be installed in the frame. As also described with respect to permanent marking, the temporary marking process 210 may include RX production of the lens based on the patient's prescription in 204. If the lens should be covered with a conventional coating (hard coating, anti-reflective coating, etc. intended to protect the lens surface), this is typically performed before temporary marking. The temporary marking process 210 may include generating a sticker showing the actual design contour to be attached to the lens surface in 212A, or a removable print on the lens surface describing the actual design contour in 212B.

[0056] The sticker is then applied to the front and / or back surface of the framed lens in 220. As described above, the alignment between the sticker and the lens can be performed by using a mark (e.g., semi-visible) pre-marked on the lens during RX production of the lens in 204, or if the lens is already mounted in a frame, the alignment is performed relative to the frame.

[0057] Each option of the temporary marking process 210 may include an optional assembly process 216, in which the resulting lens is assembled (i.e., the finished lens is cut to correspond to the frame shape and fit into the selected frame). The optional assembly process 216 may be followed by an optional quality control (QC) process / procedure 218, in which the marking of the lens and the correction of the lens are verified. If the temporary marking process 210 includes the creation of a sticker in 212A, the framed lens is then marked with the sticker according to the semi-visible marking, and the finished marked lens is then sent to the ECP. Alternatively, the uncut lens and the required number of stickers may be sent to the ECP, and then assembly and application may be performed.

[0058] If the temporary marking process 210 includes producing a removable print in 212B, the lens may be marked with the removable ink prior to assembly, followed by the optional assembly process 216. Alternatively, the uncut marked lens may be sent to the ECP where the optional assembly process 216 is performed.

[0059] refer to Figure 3, which shows a functional block diagram 300 of a system including a control unit configured and operable for designing an ophthalmic lens according to some embodiments of the present disclosure. In general, the control unit 300 can be a processor, a controller, a microcontroller, or any kind of integrated circuit. The data input tool 300A may include a communication interface, the communication interface being appropriately configured to connect the processor tool 300B to a measurement module supplying the calculated optical design profile feature data or to an external memory (database) that has previously stored such data via wired or wireless signal transmission (e.g., via a communication network). The communication interface may be a tool separate from the processor tool 300B, or may be integrated within the control unit 300. When the communication interface is a unit separate from the control unit 300, the control unit 300 may include a transceiver that permits connection to the communication interface and sending and / or receiving data. When the communication interface is integrated within the control unit 300, the communication interface may be included in the data input tool 300A and the data output tool 300D of the control unit 300. In some embodiments, the control unit 300 is configured and operable to calculate the optical design profile features indicating the correction of a particular patient.

[0060] In some embodiments, the preparation of the lens and the personalized optical design profile features is performed simultaneously. [0063] refer to Figure 4 , which shows an example of an ophthalmic device 450 including a personalized optical design profile feature that can be applied to the front or back surface of a lens according to some embodiments of the presently disclosed subject matter. As shown, the physical permanent optical design profile feature can be mechanically or laser engraved on the front and / or back surface of the lens to make the optical design visible in the environment. As shown, the personalized optical design profile feature includes a plurality of profiles 452A-452D, which represent cylindrical profile maps defining different optical zones, thereby enabling visualization of different visual zones. The cylindrical profile distribution map shows potential blurred areas where unwanted astigmatism occurs that the wearer should not look through. The profiles 452A-452D are numbered in the figure to illustrate their locations, however, other markings on the lens also represent profiles. The area outside the profile distribution map defines the main visual zone from the far vision zone to the near vision zone, while the area within the cylindrical profile distribution map defines the potential blurred unwanted astigmatism area. In this regard, it should be noted that the optical design profile features may define cylinder lines that indicate residual cylinder regions that the patient should not look at, or power lines that indicate regions that the patient should look at. Thus, visualization of the optical design helps the patient understand how to best focus through the various visual zones. The cross markings in the figures represent the "fitting point" (also referred to as the "fitting cross") of the lens. Furthermore, it should be noted that the optical profile features of each lens as illustrated in the figures are not identical and are personalized according to their own unique lens design.

[0064] refer to Figure 5, which shows an example of a component 400 that can be applied on the front or back surface of a lens according to some embodiments of the subject matter currently disclosed. As shown, this example indicates that the component 400 corresponds to the left eye. The component generally has different profile features for each eye. In this example, the component 400 is a ready-made product that conforms to the shape of the frame and allows precise positioning accordingly. As shown, the outer contour 416 of the personalized optical design is configured to be precisely aligned with the inner shape of the frame of the lens. In particular, the component 400 has two marks (e.g., holes) 410A and 410B and / or semi-visible pre-marks 420A and 420B, which are configured to enable the component 400 to be precisely positioned relative to the invisible marks on the lens. The component 400 includes a carrier layer capable of carrying a personalized optical design profile feature, wherein the personalized optical design profile feature is configured and operable to realize the design profile feature visualization and identify the main visual area including the far-use visual area and the near-use visual area. The carrier layer may have an adhesive side that is configured to be attached to the front or back surface of the lens. As shown, the personalized optical design profile feature includes a plurality of cylindrical profile distribution maps 412A-412D, which define: boundary maps of different areas, the different areas having different parameters of the optical design profile feature indicating the distribution of the optical property (in this case, astigmatism) across the lens; and a plurality of areas 414A-414D defining between the profiles showing unwanted astigmatism areas, which indicate potential blur / distortion / image swimming areas, thereby enabling visualization of different visual zones. Therefore, the visualization of the optical design helps the patient understand how to best gaze through the various visual zones. In this specific non-limiting example, the personalized optical design profile feature is colored. However, the configuration of the component 400 is not limited to this configuration, and the personalized optical design profile feature can be patterned. The colored portion defines the potential blur area that the wearer should not gaze through. In summary, the uncolored portion predicts the size / width of the visual zones (distance-intermediate-near) that the wearer should gaze through, and they remain clear after the sticker is attached to the lens. In other words, the sticker shows the "unwanted" area that the wearer should not gaze through. As also shown in this example, multiple areas 414A-414D indicating different parameters of the optical design profile feature are marked differently (in this example by using different colors), thereby indicating the distribution of astigmatism, which means that the wearer should not look through these areas. However, the methods of distinguishing different optical zones with different parameters are endless. The area outside the profile defines the primary viewing area (the area that remains clear after the sticker is attached to the lens).

[0065] The personalized optical design profile feature may, as in this example, include a single element carrying multiple regions 414A-414D. However, assembly 400 is not limited to this configuration, and it may include multiple elements configured to be applied together or separately on at least one front or back surface.

[0066] Although for illustration purposes, only profiles 412A-412D are numbered and described in the figure to illustrate their locations, other symmetrical markings on the lens also represent profiles, and the same description applies to them. The obvious difference in performance between the different optical profile features on each side of the lens (and each lens) is shown.

[0067] refer to FIG. 6A to FIG. 6C , which illustrates the application of some embodiments according to the presently disclosed subject matter Figure 5 An example of a method 600 of the assembly 400. Fig. 6A In the embodiment, the assembly 400 is attached to the lens via an adhesive carrier layer. Alignment between the assembly 400 and the lens can be performed by using holes 410A and 410B and / or semi-visible pre-marks 420A and 420B. In this specific non-limiting example, the adhesive carrier layer is configured as a top layer on which a plurality of regions 414A-414D are glued together. Figure 6B In the embodiment, the adhesive carrier layer is removed, thereby leaving a plurality of areas 414A-414D that are immediately glued to the lens surface, such as Figure 6C As shown. Each area 414A-414D can be an independent area from each other and can be removed individually according to the needs of the patient at different stages of the adaptation design. The adhesive layer is configured to prevent any adhesive residue on the lens surface.

[0068] refer to Figure 7 , which shows an example of an ophthalmic device 700 including a personalized optical design profile feature applied to the front surface of a lens according to some embodiments of the presently disclosed subject matter. More specifically, Figure 7 It is shown that the above has been applied Figure 5Framed eyeglass lenses with stickers. As shown in the figure, the physical temporary optical design profile features define a component printed on a carrier layer and attached to the lens surface. In this specific non-limiting example, the component defines two different elements 710A and 710B, which are applied / attached to the lens surface separately according to marks 720A and 720B. In this case, the two different elements 710A and 710B are two separate stickers, which are applied to the lens surface using the same carrier formed as a lens with a frame. The carrier is attached to the lens using a mark for accurate alignment, and then the carrier is removed, leaving two elements 710A and 710B on the lens. As in other examples, depending on the unique design of each visual zone, the two different elements 710A and 710B are not symmetrical. As shown in the figure, the personalized optical design profile feature includes a plurality of profiles 712A-712C, which define: a profile map of different regions, the different regions having different parameters of the optical design profile feature; and a plurality of regions 714A-714C defined between the profiles. The areas outside the profile diagram are transparent and define the primary viewing zones so that the patient can see through them, understand the optical profile characteristics of the lens and adapt to the lens. Here again, the optical profile characteristics of each lens as illustrated are not the same and are personalized according to their own unique lens design.

[0069] refer to Fig. 8A , which shows an example of an uncut lens 810 including a personalized optical design contour feature applied to the front surface of the lens according to some embodiments of the presently disclosed subject matter. Figure 8B , which shows an example of an ophthalmic device 820 including a personalized optical design contour feature applied to the front surface of a lens according to some embodiments of the presently disclosed subject matter. In these specific non-limiting examples, the personalized optical design contour feature (e.g., contour) is printed using removable ink. More specifically, Figure 8B A printed-edged lens is shown mounted on a frame. In this specific non-limiting example, printing is performed on the edge-treated lens before mounting in the frame. The plurality of areas outside the profile map are transparent and define the primary viewing area so that the patient can see through them, understand the optical profile characteristics of the lens and adapt to the lens. Here again, the optical profile characteristics of each lens as illustrated are not identical and are personalized according to their own unique lens design.
