Description

Technical Field

[0001] The present disclosure relates to personal care compositions comprising: (a) a volatile alkane mixture comprising, relative to the total weight of the alkane mixture, from about 10% to about 90% by weight of linear alkanes having 9 to 18 carbon atoms and from about 10% to about 90% by weight of branched alkanes having 10 to 14 carbon atoms; and (b) one or more crosslinked elastomers. The present disclosure also relates to linear alkanes comprising, relative to the total weight of the alkane mixture, from about 0% to about 5% by weight of n-decane, from about 50% to about 80% by weight of n-dodecane, from about 1% to about 5% by weight of n-tetradecane, and from about 0% to about 5% by weight of n-hexadecane or n-octadecane. The present disclosure further relates to a crosslinked elastomer selected from the group consisting of a crosslinked silicone elastomer, a crosslinked polyurethane elastomer, a crosslinked polyester elastomer, and combinations thereof. Background Art

[0002] Swelling cross-linked polymers are used in personal care formulations to provide cushioning and a powdery afterfeel without a heavy or greasy feel. The afterfeel of a swelled cross-linked elastomer generally depends on the nature of the solvent used to swell and / or disperse the cross-linked elastomer. Non-volatile solvents provide a moist, smooth afterfeel, while volatile oils provide a dry, powdery afterfeel. Currently used volatile oils include silicone-based solvents such as cyclopentasiloxane and methyl trimethicone, and hydrocarbon solvents such as isododecane and isohexadecane. Silicone-based solvents present challenges due to their non-biodegradability. Hydrocarbon volatile solvents such as isododecane (IDD) evaporate from the skin too quickly, leaving it dry and uncomfortable. Other ester-based organic solvents or other hydrocarbon solvents, such as isohexadecane, are non-volatile and do not meet the requirements for providing a dry, powdery, and non-sticky afterfeel. When the present disclosure is combined with a cross-linked elastomer powder, the personal care composition provides a dry, powdery afterfeel without being overly dry and greasy. [0084] Preparation of Personal Care Formulation 1

[0085] Table 2 lists the ingredients of Personal Care Formulation 1 (gel). The procedure for preparing Personal Care Formulation 1 is described below. Alkane Mixture Example 3 and Dimethiconol / Silsesquioxane Copolymer were combined and stirred at 3000 rpm until a homogeneous solution was formed. Comparative Example 1 and Dimethiconol / Silsesquioxane Copolymer were combined and stirred at 3000 rpm until a homogeneous solution was formed. Comparative Example 2 and Dimethiconol / Silsesquioxane Copolymer were combined and stirred at 3000 rpm until a homogeneous solution was formed.

[0086] Table 3 lists the wettability, processability, and tack attributes of Formulation Examples 1a-1c. Formulation Example 1a, which contains Alkane Mixture Example 3, exhibits better wettability, shorter processing time, and reduced tack compared to the baseline Formulation Examples 1b and 1c.

[0087] Figure 1 The volatility of Formulation Examples 1a and 1b is described. Figure 1In the example 1, Formulation Example 1b exhibits higher volatility compared to Formulation Example 1a. The lower volatility of Formulation 1a results in a higher rub time, which provides a higher cushioning, but drier feel compared to Formulation 1b. Formulation Example 1a exhibits lower tack compared to Formulation Examples 1b and 1c, and therefore exhibits a light, non-sticky feel.
