Description

Technical Field

[0001] The present invention relates to an occupant protection device for protecting an occupant sitting in a passenger seat of a vehicle. Background Art

[0002] For example, in the passenger seat occupant protection device described in Japanese Patent Gazette No. 2014-69730, an airbag device is provided in the instrument panel on the front side of the passenger seat, and an airbag door formed on the upper wall portion of the instrument panel is deployed, thereby protecting the upper body of the occupant by the airbag that expands upward from the opening formed in the upper wall portion.

[0003] However, in the structure of the occupant protection device as described above, there is a problem in that the degree of freedom in designing the upper portion of the instrument panel is limited due to the provision of the airbag device. Summary of the Invention

[0004] An object of the present invention is to provide an occupant protection device capable of protecting an occupant in a front passenger seat by an airbag without compromising the design freedom of an upper portion of an instrument panel.

[0005] The present invention relates to an occupant protection device having the following structure.

[0006] The occupant protection device according to the present invention comprises:

[0007] a storage box mounted on the instrument panel in front of the passenger seat, comprising a box body and a lid; and

[0008] The airbag device is provided in the storage box and supplies inflation gas to the airbag to deploy the airbag rearward.

[0009] The storage box includes an inner member and an outer member that is movable rearward relative to the inner member. The outer member is moved rearward by a pressing force from the airbag when the airbag is deployed, and an expansion opening is formed between the rear wall of the instrument panel and the outer member to allow the airbag to expand upward.

[0010] The deployed airbag is supported by the outer member moved rearward, the instrument panel located forward of the outer member, and the windshield located above the instrument panel.

[0011] According to the occupant protection device of the above structure, the airbag housed in the storage box is deployed through an opening formed between the rear wall of the instrument panel and the outer member of the storage box. Therefore, it is not necessary to provide an opening for deploying the airbag in the upper wall of the instrument panel. Therefore, it is possible to avoid compromising the design freedom of the upper portion of the instrument panel due to the installation of the airbag device.

[0012] Furthermore, the airbag that expands and deploys from the glove box is supported at three locations: the outer member that moves rearward, the instrument panel located forward of the outer member, and the windshield located above the instrument panel, thereby achieving a desired deployment shape.

[0013] In the occupant protection device of the above structure, the outer member includes the cover portion, and the upper end of the cover portion can be used as an engagement support portion for supporting the deployed airbag. In this case, the airbag can be provided with an engagement recess that opens downward and engages with the engagement support portion.

[0014] Furthermore, in the occupant protection device having the above structure, the airbag may be provided with a front inflation portion that covers the upper surface of the instrument panel when deployment is complete.

[0015] Furthermore, in the occupant protection device having the above structure, the upper surface of the instrument panel that contacts the airbag can be formed as an inclined surface that faces upward as it faces forward.

[0016] Furthermore, in the occupant protection device having the above structure, an inclined wall portion that inclines rearward as it goes upward may be provided at a position of the cover portion that faces the airbag provided in the storage box. BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWINGS

[0026] Hereinafter, one embodiment of the present invention will be described with reference to the drawings. Figure 1 This is a schematic longitudinal cross-sectional view showing an occupant protection device according to one embodiment of the present invention mounted on a vehicle. In this embodiment, unless otherwise specified, the front-back, top-bottom, and left-right directions correspond to those of vehicle 1. In this figure, an instrument panel 3 is positioned in front of a passenger seat 2 within the interior of vehicle 1. Above instrument panel 3 is a windshield 5 that tilts upward toward the rear of the vehicle.

[0027] A glove box 20 is attached to a portion of the instrument panel 3 that is in front of the passenger seat 2. The occupant protection device M of the present embodiment includes the glove box 20 and an airbag device S provided in the glove box 20.

[0028] The storage box 20 has a cover 21 and a box body 31. Figure 2 As shown, the instrument panel 3 in front of the passenger seat is provided with a pair of side walls 3b extending forward in a state separated in the left-right direction of the vehicle. A window 4 is formed between the pair of side walls 3b and in the rear wall 3a of the instrument panel 3. The cover 21 of the storage box 20 opens and closes the window 4. The cover 21 is as shown in FIG. Figure 3 As shown in FIG. 1 , a bottom portion 22 extending in the horizontal direction is provided with an inclined wall portion 23 that is inclined toward the rear side as it goes upward, and an upper end portion 24 extending upward in the vertical direction is provided following the inclined wall portion 23. The upper end portion 24 is an engaging support portion that supports the airbag body 61 after deployment from the bottom side (see FIG. 1 ). Figure 8 ).

[0029] The box body 31 has an integrally formed small item storage section 25 and an airbag storage section 33. The small item storage section 25 is provided in front of the lid 21 to store small items, and the upper opening forms an inlet 26 for storing items.

[0030] The open portion at the rear end of the small item storage portion 25 is blocked by a partition wall 30, and an airbag storage portion 33 is provided on the vehicle rear side of a box main body portion 31 partitioned from the small item storage portion 25 by the partition wall 30. The rear end of the airbag storage portion 33 is open, and the airbag device S is provided in the airbag storage portion 33 so that its rear portion faces the lid portion 21.

[0031] The storage box 20 is provided with a shaft 27 supported by the side wall portion 3b of the instrument panel 3 and extending in the left-right direction of the vehicle. The storage box 20 including the cover portion 21 and the box body portion 31 is provided as shown in FIG. Figure 3 As shown by the two-dot chain line in FIG. 2 , the structure is rotatable around the axis 27 .

[0032] like Figure 2 As shown, a connecting mechanism 36 is provided between the box body 31 and the instrument panel 3 for detachably connecting the box body 31 to the instrument panel 3. The connecting mechanism 36 includes a pair of engaging holes 37, an operating handle 38, a pair of lock pins 39, and a transmission mechanism 40.

[0033] Each engaging hole 37 extends horizontally through the side walls 3b of the instrument panel 3. An operating handle 38 is located in a recessed portion of the upper rear portion of the cover 21, with its rear end open. The operating handle 38 is supported so as to be rotatable vertically relative to the box body 31. A pair of lock pins 39 are supported by the box body 31 so as to be movable horizontally.

[0034] While the specific structure of the transmission mechanism 40 is omitted, it functions to convert the vertical rotation of the operating handle 38 into linear motion in opposite directions, left and right, and transmits this motion to the two lock pins 39. When the operating handle 38 is not being rotated, the transmission mechanism 40 causes each lock pin 39 to protrude outward from the box body 31, engaging with the corresponding engagement hole 37. This engagement secures the box body 31 to the instrument panel 3, restricting rotation of the box body 31 about the shaft 27.

[0035] When the operating handle 38 is rotated upward, the transmission mechanism 40 moves the lock pins 39 inward and retracts them from the engagement holes 37, thereby releasing the connection between the box body 31 and the instrument panel 3. Therefore, the box body 31 can be rotated about the shaft 27 between the closed position and the open position.

[0036] Furthermore, a moving mechanism 42 capable of sliding the cover 21 in the approaching and separating directions is provided between the box body 31 and the cover 21. The moving mechanism 42 includes a guide groove 44 and a pin 47 that engage with each other.

[0037] Figure 4 Figure 5As shown, guide plates 43 extending in the front-rear direction are connected to both ends of the cover 21 in the left-right direction. A plurality of guide grooves 44 (in this example, two separated in the vertical direction) are formed on the inner surface 43a of each guide plate 43 so as to extend in the horizontal direction.

[0038] Furthermore, a plurality of pins 47 that project outward in the left-right direction and engage with the guide grooves 44 are provided on the pair of left and right side walls 46 of the box body 31 .

[0039] In the close state (refer to Figure 4A ) under the guide groove 44 at its rear end portion 44a engages with the pin 47 to determine the position of the cover portion 21 in the close state. In addition, although not shown, in this embodiment, there is a holding mechanism for holding the cover portion 21 in the close state.

[0040] On the other hand, in the detached state (refer to Figure 4B ) Under the present invention, the guide groove 44 is engaged with the pin 47 at its front end portion 44b, thereby defining the position of the cover portion 21 in the disengaged state.

[0041] Here, the cover 21 moves from the close state to the disengaged state by receiving the pressure of the airbag 60 during deployment and inflation. In addition, in this embodiment, a locking mechanism may be provided to hold the cover 21 at a predetermined disengaged position.

[0042] In the occupant protection device M of the present embodiment configured as described above, the box body 31 constitutes the inner member of the present invention, and the lid 21 constitutes the outer member movable rearward relative to the inner member (box body 31 ).

[0043] Next, the airbag device S provided in the airbag housing portion 33 will be described. Figure 3 As shown, the airbag device S is configured to include: an airbag 60 that is folded and wrapped with a packaging member; an inflator 50 that supplies inflation gas to the airbag 60; and a housing 51 that serves as a storage portion for storing and retaining the airbag 60 and the inflator 50.

[0044] The inflator 50 is configured to include a substantially cylindrical main body portion 50 a having a plurality of gas ejection ports 50 b and a flange portion 50 c for attaching the inflator 50 to a housing 51 .

[0045] The housing 51 is formed into a three-dimensional shape made of sheet metal with an opening at the upper end side. The inflow opening 82 for the airbag 60 (see Figure 6) and the flange portion 50c of the inflator 50 are mounted on the bottom wall portion of the housing 51. A bracket (not shown) connected to the box body portion 31 of the storage box 20 is arranged on the bottom wall portion of the housing 51.

[0046] like Figures 6 to 8 As shown, the airbag 60 includes an airbag body 61 , a duct portion 62 for flowing inflation gas into the airbag body 61 , and tethers 64 and 67 disposed within the airbag body 61 to restrict the inflated shape of the airbag body 61 .

[0047] like Figure 6 As shown, the airbag body 61 is formed so that its outer shape when inflated is an approximately triangular prism with its axial direction roughly along the left-right direction, and comprises: a passenger side wall portion 70, which is arranged on the passenger MP side to support the passenger MP when inflated; a front upper wall portion 71, which is arranged on the front side away from the passenger MP and abuts against the windshield 5 when inflated; a lower wall portion 73, which is located below the front upper wall portion 71 when inflated; and a left wall portion 74 and a right wall portion 75, which are arranged opposite to each other on the left and right sides when inflated.

[0048] The duct portion 62 is formed at a substantially central position of the front and rear of the lower wall portion 73 in a manner extending obliquely to the lower left in the figure. When the duct portion 62 is expanded, most of it is disposed in the storage box 20 (see FIG. Figure 8 ). An inlet opening 82 is formed at the front end of the conduit portion 62, the periphery of which is mounted on the bottom wall of the housing 51. A plurality of (four in the present embodiment) mounting holes 84 are formed at the periphery of the inlet opening 82 (see Figure 7 ), a mounting bolt (not shown) is inserted into the mounting hole 84 to mount the periphery of the inflow opening 82 to the bottom wall of the housing 51.

[0049] The airbag body 61 includes a front inflation portion 76 extending from a front side 73 a of a connection portion between the lower wall portion 73 and the duct portion 62 toward the front side of the lower wall portion 73 , and covering the upper surface 3 c of the instrument panel 3 when deployment is complete.

[0050] Furthermore, a downwardly open engagement recess 78 is formed in a portion extending from the rear side 73b of the connection portion between the lower wall portion 73 and the duct portion 62 to the rear side of the lower wall portion 73. The engagement recess 78 is formed at a position corresponding to the upper end portion (engagement support portion) 24 of the cover portion 21 in the disengaged state in which it slides rearward.

[0051] Vent holes 80 are formed in the left wall portion 74 and the right wall portion 75 of the airbag body 61 . The vent holes 80 open in a substantially circular shape and discharge excess inflation gas that has flowed into the airbag body 61 through the duct portion 62 .

[0052] As tethers for restricting the inflation-completed shape of the airbag body 61 , a front-rear tether 64 and a left-right tether 67 are arranged inside the airbag body 61 .

[0053] The front and rear tether 64 connects the substantially left-right center of the passenger side wall portion 70 and the front end 62a side of the duct portion 62 substantially along the front-rear direction. In the present embodiment, the front portion 65 extending from the periphery of the inflow opening 82 and the rear portion 66 extending from the passenger side wall portion 70 side are connected (see FIG. Figure 6 ). In the case of this embodiment, the front side portion 65 is Figure 7 The front portion 66 is formed by folding the material 89 in a strip shape, and the outer shape of the airbag body 61 when fully inflated is approximately a triangular pyramid with the front end side generally extending in the left-right direction and the rear end side generally extending in the up-down direction. The rear portion 66 is formed so that the outer shape is approximately a trapezoidal shape with the width becoming narrower toward the front end 66a side connected to the front portion 65. In the case of this embodiment, the rear portion 66 is connected to the passenger side wall portion 70 at a position approximately in the center of the upper and lower parts (see FIG. 1 ). Figure 6 The front and rear tethers 64 are configured to suppress excessive rearward protrusion of the airbag 60 when it is deployed and inflated, and to limit the separation distance between the passenger side wall portion 70 and the front end 62a when the airbag 60 is fully inflated.

[0054] The left and right tethers 67 are roughly arranged along the left and right directions so that a pair of left and right tether bodies 67L, 67R connect the left wall portion 74 and the right wall portion 75 opposite to each other in the left and right directions within the airbag body 61, thereby preventing the left wall portion 74 and the right wall portion 75 from protruding outward to the left and right sides.

[0055] The airbag 60 is formed into a bag shape by bonding the peripheries of base fabrics of a predetermined shape to each other. In the case of this embodiment, as shown in FIG. Figure 7 As shown, it is composed of the following parts: an outer left panel 86 and an outer right panel 87 arranged on the outer sides in the left and right directions when inflation is completed; a peripheral wall panel 88 arranged between the outer left panel 86 and the outer right panel 87 and mainly constituting the passenger side wall portion 70; a front part material 89 and a rear part material 90 constituting the front and rear tethers; and tether materials 91L and 91R constituting the left and right tethers 67.

[0056] These outer left panel 86, outer right panel 87, peripheral wall panel 88, front part material 89, rear part material 90 and lace materials 91L, 91R are respectively formed of flexible woven fabrics composed of polyester yarn or polyamide yarn.

[0057] Next, a series of actions in the occupant protection device M of the present embodiment will be described. In the occupant protection device M of the present embodiment, when the storage box 20 is in a state fixed to the instrument panel 3 in a closed position to seal the window portion 4 of the instrument panel 3, if the inflator 50 is in operation, the airbag 60 provided in the airbag accommodation portion 33 begins to deploy and inflate by the inflation gas ejected from the inflator 50. At this time, the cover portion 21 is subjected to the pressure of the deployment and inflation of the airbag 60 and moves rearward to a predetermined position (a position where the guide groove 44 engages with the pin 47 at its front end portion 44b), as shown in FIG. Figure 4B As shown, an opening (expansion opening) 49 for causing the airbag 60 to expand upward is formed between the rear wall portion 3 a of the instrument panel 3 and the cover portion 21 .

[0058] In addition, the cover portion 21 that moves rearward has an inclined wall portion 23 that is inclined substantially in the same manner as the knee MK of the occupant MP. Figure 8 As shown, the knee MK is close to the passenger MP, and the forward movement of the knee MK is suppressed.

[0059] The airbag 60, which begins to deploy within the storage box 20, is guided upward along the inner surface 23a of the inclined wall portion 23, extending upward from the storage box 20 through the aforementioned opening 49. The airbag body 61 of the airbag 60 then deploys in an upward and rearward direction. After expanding in this upward and rearward direction to a limit defined by the front and rear tethers 64, it further expands in a downward and frontward direction. At this time, the front side of the lower wall portion 73 of the airbag body 61 (specifically, the area from the front side of the connection portion 73a to the front inflation portion 76) is supported by the rear wall portion 3a and upper surface 3c of the instrument panel 3. The rear side of the lower wall portion 73 (specifically, the engagement recess 78) is supported by the upper end portion 24 of the lid portion 21, and the front upper wall portion 71 of the airbag body 61 is supported by the windshield 5. When inflation is complete, the airbag body 61 is positioned in the desired deployed configuration in front of the upper body MU of the occupant MP.

[0060] Therefore, when the airbag 60 (airbag body 61) is fully inflated, even if the upper body MU of the occupant MP moves forward significantly, the lower wall portion 73 and the front upper wall portion 71 of the airbag body 61 are supported by the instrument panel 3 and the windshield 5 over a wider area, thereby preventing tipping over or compression, and the upper body MU of the occupant MP can be reliably restrained by the upper body restraint surface 70a arranged in a manner opposite to the front side of the upper body MU.

[0061] According to the occupant protection device M of the present embodiment configured as described above, the airbag 60 housed in the storage box 20 is expanded from the opening 49 formed between the rear wall portion 3a of the instrument panel 3 and the lid portion 21 of the storage box 20. Therefore, it is not necessary to provide an opening in the upper wall portion of the instrument panel 3 for expanding the airbag 60. Therefore, it is possible to avoid compromising the design freedom of the upper portion of the instrument panel 3 due to the provision of the airbag 60.

[0062] The airbag 60 that expands and deploys from the storage box 20 is supported by the lid 21 that moves rearward, the instrument panel 3 that is located forward of the lid 21 , and the windshield 5 that is located above the instrument panel 3 , thereby achieving a desired deployment shape.

[0063] In addition, according to the occupant protection device M of this embodiment, the outer member includes the cover portion 21, and the upper end portion 24 of the cover portion 21 serves as an engaging support portion for supporting the airbag 60 after deployment. The cover portion 21 of the storage box 20 can be effectively used as a supporting member for the airbag 60.

[0064] In addition, in the occupant protection device M of this embodiment, an engaging recess 78 that opens downward and engages with the upper end portion 24 of the cover portion 21 is provided on the airbag 60, and the deployed airbag 60 can be supported at a desired position by the engagement between the upper end portion 24 and the engaging recess 78.

[0065] In addition, in the occupant protection device M of this embodiment, a front inflation portion 76 that covers the upper surface 3C of the instrument panel 3 when deployment is completed is provided on the airbag 60, and the deployed airbag 60 is also supported at the upper surface 3c of the instrument panel 3 in addition to the rear wall portion 3a of the instrument panel 3.

[0066] In the occupant protection device M of the present embodiment, a portion of the upper surface 3c of the instrument panel that can contact the airbag 60 is formed as an inclined surface 3c1 that faces upward as it faces forward (see FIG. Figure 8 ), the airbag 60 contacts the inclined surface 3c1, thereby increasing the reaction force when the airbag 60 supports the upper body of the occupant MP.

[0067] Furthermore, in the occupant protection device M of this embodiment, a sloped wall portion 23 is provided on the cover portion 21 at a position opposing the airbag 60 disposed in the glove box 20. The sloped wall portion 23 is tilted rearward as it moves upward. This allows the airbag 60, which begins to deploy within the glove box 20, to be guided upward along the inner surface 23a of the sloped wall portion 23. Furthermore, the sloped wall portion 23 of the cover portion 21, which is tilted substantially in the same direction as the knees MK of the occupant MP, effectively restrains the knees MK of the occupant MP when the occupant MP is moved rearward of the vehicle by the pressing force of the airbag 60.

[0068] Fig. 9 is a diagram showing a different modified example of the opening and closing mechanism of the console box 20. The opening and closing mechanism of the console box 20 is not limited to the above-described embodiment, and can be modified as appropriate.

[0069] In the example of FIG9 , the cover (external member) 21 and the box body (inner member) 31 are held integrally in a state close to each other by means of an engaging member (not shown). Figure 9A In the closed state shown in FIG. 1 , when the storage box 20 is opened by the operation of the passenger, as shown in FIG. Figure 9B As shown, first the cover 21 and the box body 31 slide backward, and then, as shown in FIG. Figure 9C As shown, in the moved position, the cover portion 21 and the box body portion 31 rotate downward around the axis, and the storage box 20 is opened.

[0070] In the example of FIG9 , unlike the above-mentioned opening and closing mechanism, a moving mechanism portion 42 (see FIG4 ) is also provided between the box body portion 31 and the cover portion 21 for slidingly moving the cover portion 21 in the approaching and separating directions. When a collision occurs (when the airbag is deployed), the cover portion 21 is pressed by the airbag 60 provided in the airbag receiving portion 33, and the engagement between the cover portion 21 and the box body portion 31 is released. Figure 9A In the state shown, the cover portion 21 is detached from the box body portion 31 and is movable rearward.

[0071] As mentioned above, although embodiment and modification of this invention were described in detail, these are only examples, and this invention can be implemented with various modifications added thereto without departing from the scope of the gist of this invention.

[0072] For example, in the above-described embodiment, the cover portion 21 as the outer member is moved horizontally toward the rear, but the cover portion 21 may be moved obliquely downward depending on circumstances.

[0073] Furthermore, in the above-described embodiment, the entire cover portion 21 is configured to be movable rearward, but only a portion of the cover portion 21 may be configured to be movable rearward.

[0074] In addition, the airbag used in the occupant protection device of the present invention is not limited to the above embodiment and can be modified appropriately. For example, a straightening cloth can be provided inside the airbag. The straightening cloth is provided to the gas inlet opening of the airbag body (in the Figure 6 The airbag body 61 is covered with a cover on the upper side thereof (indicated by reference numeral 63), and is in a substantially cylindrical shape with both sides opened, so that the inflation gas flowing into the airbag body 61 can be temporarily divided into the front side and the rear side flow.
