Abstract

The present invention relates to an apparatus for detecting a residual amount of detergent of a washing machine for detecting a residual amount of detergent filled in a detergent tank and providing information about a number of washing times that can be subsequently used, the apparatus comprising: a pair of electrode detection units installed in the detergent tank so as to be immersed in the detergent; and a control unit that supplies an electric current to the pair of electrode detection units, extracts a residual amount of the detergent using a change in electrical characteristics measured between the pair of electrode detection units in accordance with a detergent level, and supplies the residual amount to a display unit, at least one of the pair of electrode detection units being configured from a resistive electrode bar, the resistance electrode bar is composed of an electrode bar made of a single material having a predetermined resistance, or an electrode bar made of a composite material having a predetermined resistance and formed by mixing an insulating material and a conductive material.
