Abstract

SUMMARY OF THE DESCRIPTION This document describes compositions and formulations of lime-based cement extenders or cement substitutes, as well as associated systems and methods. In some embodiments, a lime-based cement extender or cement substitute composition includes at least 5 wt% lime particles and at least 50 wt% pozzolan particles. In some embodiments, the pozzolan particles include silicon dioxide and aluminum oxide. In some embodiments, the composition may be combined with additives and / or aggregates to produce a formulation. The formulation may have at least 5,000 ppm of soluble sulfate and an alumina:silica ratio of at least 0.2:1.Methods to accelerate the formation of calcium and aluminum sulfates to prevent sulfate attack during critical periods include producing a formulation with a high aluminum oxide content, using additives designed to accelerate certain chemical reactions, and omitting limestone.
