Abstract
Description
BACKGROUNDField of the InventionThe present disclosure relates to a cosmetic package having a shock absorbing member for protecting from shock damage.Description of Related ArtFolding cosmetic containers such as cosmetic packages are commonly used to contain various cosmetics or make-up such as face powder, rouge, eye shadow, lip paint and the like. Indeed, virtually any type of makeup may be provided in a form suitable for inclusion in a cosmetic package. Cosmetic packages allow one or more cosmetics to be conveniently stored and / or transported in amounts sufficient for a plurality of applications, in particular in containers such as cosmetic carriers, hand bags or purses, in order to be accessible and usable if necessary. Accordingly, cosmetic packages are widely used and enjoy great popularity.Conventional cosmetic packages typically include a housing, a lid pivotally mounted to a base for movement between closed and open positions, and one or more cosmetics contained within the base. The housings of conventional cosmetic packs are generally made of substantially rigid or brittle materials, such as plastics and / or metals. Because cosmetic packages are not rarely subjected to vibrations such as shocks, vibrations or shaking forces during use, storage and / or transport, the contents often suffer irreparable damage. The cosmetics in the housings can crack, break, chip or crumb. Cosmetics may leak out of damaged enclosures, and even intact enclosures may leak damaged cosmetics. Damaged cosmetic packages are therefore usually disposed of prematurely by their users, which leads to an economic loss.A cosmetic package having a flexible housing of a plastic or rubber elastomer foam for protection against impact damage has been proposed in U.S. Pat. No. 6,055,992 to Skarne. A substantial disadvantage of the proposed cosmetic package is that the flexible housing for dimensional stability relies on a dimensionally stable mirror and a dimensionally stable cosmetic compartment or cosmetic shell, which are arranged in the cover or in the base of the housing. The dimensional stability of the housing when the mirror and / or the cosmetic compartment are not installed therein makes the cosmetic package unsuitable for use when a part of the content is removed.US 5 135 012 A to Kamen et al discloses a cosmetic package in which the lid and base of the housing are flexible because they are made from a piece of nominal thickness thermoplastic material. The nominal thickness of the lid and base reduces the structural strength of the housing and provides only a low protection of the contents against impact damage.US 5 682 910 A to Kizawa et al. discloses a cosmetic package having a soft region along a front wall thereof to define a push button for releasing hooks which serve to hold the cosmetic packages in a closed position. The location and configuration of the soft region render it ineffective for shock absorption.FR 3 035 304 A1 describes a housing base for receiving a cosmetic product, which housing base comprises a receptacle having a container arranged therein. To protect the container from vibrations, a damping element is provided. From the foregoing, it will be seen that there is a need for cosmetic packages that are better protected to absorb shocks.SUMMARYAccording to the present disclosure, it is a primary object to provide a cosmetic package having a shock absorbing member.Accordingly, the present disclosure is directed to means for damping shocks, impacts, and vibrations transmitted from a base of a cosmetic package to at least one cosmetic shell stored in the cosmetic package. The at least one cosmetic shell is suitable for containing a solid or semi-solid cosmetic product, for example a pressed powder, which is susceptible to damage in the form of cracks or crumbs or, in the worst case, to detachment from the shell. The shock absorbing agent minimizes or eliminates damage to the cosmetic product caused by external shocks, impacts or vibrations.According to an embodiment of the present disclosure, there is provided a cosmetic package including a lid and a base assembly. The base assembly includes a base, a frame, a shock absorbing member, and at least one cosmetic shell.According to an aspect of the present disclosure, the lid may be coupled to the base and configured to operate between a closed position and an open position. The lid covers the base to prevent the cosmetics in the at least one cosmetic shell from being subjected to accidental contact and preventing use. In the open position, the lid may be configured to expose the at least one cosmetic shell in the base for use.According to another aspect of the present disclosure, the lid overlies the base to define an interior compartment and is pivotally attached to the base. Together, the base and the cover form a compact housing. The lid has opposing side sidewalls and a front wall extending generally perpendicularly from a top wall of the lid. The front wall of the lid has an extended portion which fits into the recessed portion when the lid is pivoted downwardly toward the base to close the cosmetic package.According to another aspect of the present disclosure, the base has opposing side sidewalls, a front wall, and a back wall. The front wall of the base has a recessed portion. The top wall of the lid has an inner surface which may have a mirror (not shown), such as a mirror laminated to the inner surface, or the inner surface itself may be a mirror.According to another aspect of the present disclosure, a recess and a tab are provided at the extended portion of the base and in the recessed portion of the lid, respectively, and cooperate to releasably hold the cosmetic package in the closed position when the lid is pivoted to close the cosmetic package, the extended portion engaging the recessed portion of the base. However, any suitable closure system known in the art may be used.According to another aspect of the present disclosure, the frame is coupled to the base and is configured to retain the at least one cosmetic shell. The frame and the at least one cosmetic shell are disposed within the base. The base includes a groove coupled to a protrusion of the frame to assist in stabilizing the frame and prevent movement of the frame within the base. In alternative embodiments of the present disclosure, the frame may be coupled to the base by any other coupling means known in the art.According to another aspect of the present disclosure, the shock absorbing member is disposed within the base. The shock absorbing member is coupled to the base and is coupled to the at least one cosmetic shell such that a portion of the mechanical shocks applied to the cosmetic package is isolated from the at least one cosmetic shell. As a result, the content of the at least one cosmetic shell, such as make-up, is isolated from impacts or vibrations which act on the cosmetic package. The shock absorbing element prevents transverse or axial movements of the at least one cosmetic shell relative to the frame and the base and absorbs the effect of shocks on the at least one cosmetic shell in the event of a fall or vibrations.According to an aspect of the present disclosure, the shock absorbing element includes a flexible and deformable structure including a tubular hollow body defining a central bore extending between an upper flange and a lower flange. The upper flange is oblique with respect to a central longitudinal axis of the shock absorbing element and the lower flange is substantially transverse with respect to the central longitudinal axis of the shock absorbing element. In particular, the tubular hollow body has an upper curved section and a lower curved section. The upper curved portion has an inner concave surface and an outer convex surface. The lower curved portion has an inner convex surface and an outer concave surface. The shock absorbing member extends between the bottom wall of the base and the frame such that the lower flange abuts an inner surface of the bottom wall of the base and the upper flange abuts an inner surface of the frame. More specifically, the shock absorbing member extends between the bottom wall of the base and the frame such that the transverse lower flange abuts an inner surface of the bottom wall of the base and the oblique upper flange abuts an inner surface of the frame.According to an aspect of the present disclosure, an upper inner circumferential surface of the hollow tubular body of the shock absorbing member includes a step against which an outer flange of the at least one cosmetic shell abuts so that the at least one cosmetic shell is accommodated in the central bore in a floating state. More specifically, the outer flange of the at least one cosmetic shell abuts at a step on an upper inner circumferential surface of the hollow tubular body and the inner concave surface of the upper curved portion of the hollow tubular body of the shock absorbing member, so that the at least one cosmetic shell is accommodated in the central bore in a floating state. In other words, the at least one cosmetic shell is supported by the shock absorbing member only on a peripheral wall of the at least one cosmetic shell, and a bottom wall of the at least one cosmetic shell is not in contact with either the shock absorbing member or the bottom wall of the base. The at least one cosmetic shell may be secured to the shock absorbing member by an adhesive, a tight fit, or any other securing means known in the art.The frame further includes an opening that provides access to the contents of the at least one cosmetic shell.
