Abstract

A process for producing thermoplastic polymer foam using thermoplastic polymers from the polyamide group is proposed, comprising the following steps: (a) feeding a thermoplastic polymer from the polyamide group into an extruder and plasticizing and homogenizing the polymer in the extruder; (b) adding a blowing agent and dispersing the blowing agent into the plasticized polymer matrix of the polymer in the extruder; and (c) extruding the plasticized polymer containing the blowing agent from the extruder through an extruder die to obtain a strand of thermoplastic polymer foam. The invention provides that the thermoplastic polymer from the polyamide group is extruded without crosslinking agents and / or chain extenders, wherein a proportion of water is further added to the extruder and dispersed into the plasticized polymer matrix of the polymer from the polyamide group in the extruder. The invention further relates to a thermoplastic polymer foam produced in this manner on a polyamide basis.
