A method (200) for protecting a private area (140) on board a motor vehicle (105) comprises steps of determining a field of view of a first person (120) on board the motor vehicle (105); wherein the first person (120) wears data glasses (130); determining a private area (140) in the interior of the motor vehicle (105); and controlling the data glasses (130) to generate a predetermined representation in the field of view of the first person (120) where otherwise an object in the private area (140) would be visible.
