AI Technical Summary

Technical Problem

Conventional biometric authentication methods fail to verify whether the authentication subject has been replaced by another person, is a living body, or has an appropriate health state, leading to unsuitable device operation.

Method used

A biometric authentication device that measures biometric information, generates authentication information, estimates mental and physical states, and adjusts authentication conditions based on these states to ensure suitability for device operation.

Benefits of technology

Enables authentication subjects to control devices in a more suitable state by considering mental and physical conditions, ensuring legitimacy and health appropriateness.

Abstract

Biometric authentication device (10), comprising: a measuring unit (21) for measuring biometric information of an authentication subject by means of a sensor (17) (S101); an authentication information processing unit (22) for generating authentication information (S103) from the biometric information acquired by the measuring unit (21), which varies depending on the individual living body, and for determining suitability for authentication based on whether or not the authentication information satisfies an authentication condition; a mental and physical state estimation unit (23) for generating mental and physical information from the biometric information for estimating a mental and physical state of the authentication subject (S108),and to estimate the mental and physical state from the mental and physical information (S108); and an authentication condition update unit (24) to change the authentication condition to a stricter condition (S111) if the mental and physical state estimated by the mental and physical state estimation unit (23) is worse than a guideline, wherein the measurement unit (21) remeasures the biometric information (S101) after the authentication condition has been changed to a stricter condition by the authentication condition update unit (24) (S111), and the authentication information processing unit (22) generates the authentication information from the biometric information remeasured (S101) by the measurement unit (21) (S101) (S103) after it has been determined that the authentication subject can be authenticated, and the suitability for authentication is re-determined using the authentication condition updated by the authentication condition update unit (24).

Claims

[1] Biometric authentication device comprising: a measuring unit for measuring biometric information of an authentication subject through a sensor; an authentication information processing unit for generating authentication information that varies depending on the individual living body from the biometric information acquired by the measurement unit, and for determining suitability for authentication based on whether or not the authentication information satisfies an authentication condition; a mental and physical state estimation unit for generating mental and physical information for estimating a mental and physical state of the authentication subject from the biometric information, and estimating the mental and physical state from the mental and physical information; and an authentication condition updating unit for changing the authentication condition depending on the mental and physical condition estimated by the mental and physical condition estimation unit. [2] The biometric authentication device according to claim 1, wherein the mental and physical state estimation unit generates the mental and physical information at an observation interval, and estimates the mental and physical state from the mental and physical information generated at an observation time point. [3] The biometric authentication device according to claim 2, wherein the authentication condition updating unit estimates the mental and physical state from a change in the mental and physical state generated in the observation interval. [4] The biometric authentication device according to any one of claims 1 to 3, wherein the mental and physical condition estimation unit generates information representing a physical condition of the authentication subject as the mental and physical information. [5] The biometric authentication device according to any one of claims 1 to 3, wherein the mental and physical state estimation unit generates information representing an attachment state of the sensor as the mental and physical information. [6] The biometric authentication device according to any one of claims 1 to 5, wherein the authentication condition updating unit changes the authentication condition depending on whether the authentication subject is estimated to be a living body or not. [7] Biometric authentication device according to claim 6, further comprising a motion processing unit for estimating, when biometric information resulting from a specific movement has been measured, for the authentication subject to be a living body, wherein the authentication condition updating unit changes the authentication condition depending on whether the authentication subject has been estimated to be the living body by the motion processing unit or not. [8] The biometric authentication device according to claim 7, wherein the movement processing unit requests execution of the specific movement for the authentication subject, and, when the biometric information resulting from the specific movement is measured within a reference time from the request for execution of the specific movement, estimates that the authentication subject is a living body. [9] Biometric authentication device according to one of claims 6 to 8, further comprising: a measurement condition processing unit for changing a measurement condition and, when biometric information is measured depending on the changed measurement condition, estimating that the authentication subject is a living body, wherein the authentication condition updating unit changes the authentication condition depending on whether the authentication subject has been estimated to be the living body or not by the measurement condition processing unit. [10] Biometric authentication method comprising: by a computer, measuring biometric information of an authentication subject by a sensor; by the computer, generating, from the biometric information, authentication information that varies depending on the individual living body, and determining suitability for authentication based on whether or not the authentication information satisfies an authentication condition; by the computer, generating, from the biometric information, mental and physical information to estimate a mental and physical state of the authentication subject, and estimating the mental and physical state from the mental and physical information; and by the computer, changing the authentication condition depending on the mental and physical state. [11] Biometric authentication program to cause a computer to function as a biometric authentication device to perform: a measurement process for measuring biometric information of an authentication subject through a sensor; an authentication information process for generating authentication information that varies depending on the individual living body from the biometric information acquired through the measurement process, and for determining suitability for authentication based on whether or not the authentication information satisfies an authentication condition; a mental and physical state estimation process to generate mental and physical information from the biometric information to estimate a mental and physical state of the authentication subject, and to estimate the mental and physical state from the mental and physical information; and an authentication condition updating process to change the authentication condition depending on the mental and physical condition estimated by the mental and physical condition estimation process.
