Abstract

The present disclosure relates to the field of encoding and decoding of digital video and proposes the partitioning of target blocks for encoding or decoding into different forms as well as a syntax structure for representing the partition forms of such blocks.A video decoding method based on geometric partitioning prediction according to an exemplary embodiment of the present disclosure may include: reading at least part of its syntax information from an encoded bitstream; obtaining information regarding the use of a geometric partitioning mode (GPM) of a current block being decoded; obtaining GPM index information for the current block; decoding the GPM index information to obtain GPM partition shape information; partitioning the current block into a first area and a second area based on the GPM partition shape information; determining prediction mode information for the first area and the second area, respectively; and performing a prediction decoding for the first area and the second area, respectively, based on the prediction mode.
