Abstract
Description
[0001] The invention relates to special features of an agitator for separating composting toilets. Since coconut substrate is typically used in composting toilets, the agitator must be capable of optimally mixing the solids. Furthermore, the agitator should be as technically simple as possible. To ensure easy cleaning, the agitator shaft should offer as little resistance to the material as possible when emptying. To ensure long-term use, the agitator should be made of high-alloy steel to prevent corrosion and withstand constant stress.
[0002] For ideal mixing, not only the agitator shaft but also the shape of the container is crucial. If the agitator base is shaped like a radius, no material remains in the corners, and the entire substrate in the container is optimally utilized. Tests have determined a favorable shape for the agitator shaft and the container.
[0003] The agitator shaft should have as few impellers as possible, and the container should be adapted to the geometry of the agitator shaft. It has been found that the container bottom is adapted to the radius of the impeller fingers. This ensures good material transport and thorough mixing. The number and thickness of the impellers are also crucial for the mixing result, as is the distance between the impellers and the container. A distance of approximately 10 mm from the housing has proven to be ideal.
[0004] It is also important that the container is easy to handle when emptying it and when placing it in the composting toilet.
[0005] In the agitator described, the motor is permanently mounted on the container, which is a major advantage in terms of smooth operation and service life. Furthermore, the entire agitator can be easily replaced in the event of a repair.
