Description
[0001] This description concerns a device for the variable volume adjustment of mutes for wind instruments by means of a sliding base plate. By changing the internal volume of a mute, intonation, blowing resistance, and playing feel can be more closely approximated to the state without a mute. The device is generally applicable to various types of mutes and wind instruments.
[0002] Conventional mutes have a fixed internal volume. If this volume is too small, the pitch rises significantly compared to playing the instrument open, as the acoustic space of the instrument is reduced. To achieve sufficient playing volume, conventional mutes would have to be correspondingly large, which, however, would cause them to protrude far from the bell and make transport in the instrument case difficult. A solution that allows for both an increased acoustic volume and a compact transport form is not yet known.
[0003] The technical solution comprises a device in which the damper is equipped with a base plate that can be moved along the longitudinal axis. This base plate can • must be fully inserted into the damper housing for transport, • are pulled outwards for play, thereby increasing the effective internal volume.

[1] Device for variable volume adjustment of a damper, consisting of a base plate which is movable along the longitudinal axis and which is adjustable between a retracted transport position and a pulled-out working position in order to change the internal volume of the damper. [2] Device according to claim 1, characterized by , that the extended base plate creates an increased internal volume, which allows for more stable intonation, a more natural blowing resistance and an improved playing feel. [3] Device according to any one of the preceding claims, characterized by , that the fully inserted base plate forms a compact profile, enabling transport in the sound funnel and in the instrument case. [4] Device according to any one of the preceding claims, characterized by that the base plate can be fixed in several positions, either stepwise or continuously. [5] Device according to any one of the preceding claims, characterized by that the design is transferable to different types of dampers, damper geometries and wind instruments.
