Detailed description of the exemplary implementations

[0004] The following description explains only exemplary embodiments of the overload protection switch for pouch cells according to the invention and is not intended to limit the protection claims.

[0005] It will be directed to the Fig. Reference is made to sections 1 to 6. A pouch cell 01 comprises a protective housing 10, a battery cell module 20, a collection structure 30, a first electrode 42, a second electrode 44, and an overload protection switch 50 designed according to a first embodiment, wherein the protective housing 10 has a base plate 12, two side plates 14, a cover plate 16, a first end cap 18, and a second end cap 19, wherein the base plate 12 serves to support the battery cell module 20, the two side plates 14 are laterally opposed, the cover plate 16 is connected to the two side plates 14, the two side plates 14 are each connected to the base plate 12, the first end cap 18 and the second end cap 19 are opposite each other and are each connected to the base plate 12 and the side plates 14, respectively.the battery cell module 20 is located between the two side plates 14 and between the first end cap 18 and the second end cap 19, and thus inside the protective housing 10, and the protective housing 10 provides protection for the battery cell module 20.

[0006] The battery cell module 20 comprises several battery cells 22, wherein the battery cells 22 serve to store electrical energy and are each provided with two electrically conductive contact terminals 24, wherein one electrically conductive contact terminal 24 serves as the positive electrode or negative electrode of the corresponding battery cell 22.

[0007] The busbar assembly 30 comprises a first support base 32 and a second support base 34, wherein the first support base 32 is arranged between the battery cell module 20 and the first end cap 18, the second support base 34 is arranged between the battery cell module 20 and the second end cap 19, the first support base 32 is provided with a first busbar 36 and several second busbars 38, the second support base 34 is provided with several second busbars 38, the first busbar 36 and all second busbars 38 are each electrically connected with at least one electrically conductive contact terminal 24, such that the battery cells 22 are connected in series or in parallel. The first electrode 42 and the second electrode 44 serve for electrical connection with an external power source (not shown) or an external electrical device (not shown), wherein the second electrode 44 is electrically connected to one of the second busbars 38.

[0008] The overload protection switch 50 has a first terminal plate 51, a second terminal plate 52, an overload protection section 53 and a protective structure 54, wherein the first terminal plate 51 and the second terminal plate 52 are each a conductive metal plate, the first terminal plate 51 serves for electrical connection with the first busbar 36, the second terminal plate 52 serves for electrical connection with the first electrode 42 and the overload protection section 53 consists of conductive metal with rated temperature protection and is electrically connected to the first terminal plate 51 and the second terminal plate 52 to form a current path.

[0009] Specifically, a first bolt 62 is optionally inserted through the first terminal plate 51, the first bolt 62 being further inserted through the first busbar 36 and screwed to the first support base 32, so that the first terminal plate 51 is electrically connected to the first busbar 36. Alternatively, a second bolt 64 is inserted through the second terminal plate 52, the second bolt 64 being further inserted through the first electrode 42 and screwed to the first support base 32, so that the second terminal plate 52 is electrically connected to the first electrode 42.

[0010] The protective structure 54 is a shell-like structure made of flame-retardant material with insulating and heat-insulating properties. The protective structure 54 is connected to the first connection plate 51 and the second connection plate 52, with the overload protection section 53 located inside the protective structure 54.

[0011] When current flows through the overload protection switch 50, the resistance of the overload protection section 53 causes its temperature to rise. If the current flowing through the overload protection section 53 exceeds the specified current value, the overload protection section 53 overheats and melts, resulting in an open circuit between the first busbar 36 and the first electrode 42. Consequently, no external current can flow into the battery cell module 20, and the battery cell module 20 cannot supply any electrical energy.

[0012] The overload protection switch 50 is located inside the pouch cell 01 and provides active protection for the battery cell module 20. If the battery cell module 20 is charged via an external power source and the charging current transferred from the external power source to the battery cell module 20 is too high, the overload protection section 53 can melt in time to prevent the battery cell module 20 from overheating due to the excessive charging current. If the pouch cell 01 supplies power to an external electrical device, the overload protection switch 50 located inside the pouch cell 01 prevents an excessive discharge current from the pouch cell 01 being transferred to the external electrical device, thus preventing damage to the external electrical device from the abnormal output current of the pouch cell 01.If the external electrical device stops working or is damaged due to an abnormal current, it can be clearly determined whether the cause of the incident lies in the abnormal power supply of Pouch Cell 01, thus avoiding consumer or commercial disputes.

[0013] A first thermally conductive adhesive (not shown) is arranged between the first support base 32 and the first end cap 18, and a second thermally conductive adhesive (not shown) is arranged between the second support base 34 and the second end cap 19, wherein the first thermally conductive adhesive and the second thermally conductive adhesive are each made of materials with good thermal conductivity properties, thereby improving the heat dissipation efficiency of the battery cell module 20.

[0014] The protective structure 54 prevents contact between the overload protection section 53 and the first thermally conductive adhesive, thus reducing the transfer of heat energy generated between the overload protection section 53 and the first thermally conductive adhesive. If the temperature of the overload protection section 53 rises, the protective structure 54 prevents the first thermally conductive adhesive from being damaged or even catching fire due to the heat energy transferred from the overload protection section 53. The heat energy generated by the overload protection section 53 is not absorbed and dissipated by the first thermally conductive adhesive.Furthermore, if the heat energy generated by the battery cell module 20 is dissipated to the outside by the first thermally conductive adhesive, the heat energy of the first thermally conductive adhesive that the overload protection section 53 has to absorb can be reduced by the protective structure 54, so that the temperature of the overload protection section 53 can be varied depending on the value of the current flowing through it. The protective structure 54 reduces the influence of the first thermally conductive adhesive on the overload protection section 53 in order to improve the accuracy of the protection of the overload protection section 53 in the event of a current overload.

[0015] The protective structure 54 mainly consists of a first half-shell 542 and a second half-shell 544, which are aligned and connected to each other, wherein the first half-shell 542 is connected to the first connection plate 51 and the second connection plate 52, the second half-shell 544 is connected to the first half-shell 542 and the overload protection section 53 is located between the first half-shell 542 and the second half-shell 544.

[0016] It will be directed to the Fig. 7 and Fig.Reference is made to Figure 8. The second embodiment differs from the first embodiment mainly in that the first half-shell 542 is made of transparent material. Accordingly, if the pouch cell 01 cannot be charged via an external power source or supply power to an electrical device, it can be visually determined through the transparent first half-shell 542 whether the overload protection section 53 has melted, thus improving ease of maintenance.

[0017] The present invention provides an overload protection switch for pouch cells, comprising a first terminal plate, a second terminal plate, an overload protection section, and a protective structure, wherein the first terminal plate serves for electrical connection to the first busbar of a pouch cell, the second terminal plate serves for electrical connection to the first electrode of the pouch cell, and the overload protection section is electrically connected to the first terminal plate and the second terminal plate to form a current path, wherein the protective structure is a shell-like structure made of flame-retardant material with insulating and heat-insulating properties and is connected to the first terminal plate and the second terminal plate. The overload protection section is located inside the protective structure, and the overload protection switch is located inside the pouch cell, providing active protection for the battery cell module to prevent excessive charging or discharging current.
