Description

[0001] The present invention relates to an aqueous liquid hand dishwashing composition comprising (i) a surfactant system comprising at least one anionic surfactant and at least one amine oxide cosurfactant, and (ii) at least one enzyme selected from protease and amylase, (iii) an inorganic sulfur-based antioxidant and (iv) optionally an inorganic salt other than (iii). BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION

[0002] Modern dishwashing detergents contain a surfactant system for soaking and removing stubborn or greasy dirt. For even better performance and easier cleaning for the user, these detergents may contain one or more types of enzymes.

[0003] Protein and carbohydrate soils can be difficult to remove when washing dishes by hand. In automatic dishwashing detergents (ADCs), these soils are removed by adding enzymes such as proteases and amylases to the dry, solid ADCs; however, such enzymes are less stable in aqueous liquid dishwashing detergents. The presence of a surfactant system, particularly one containing anionic surfactants, appears to destabilize the enzymes during storage in an aqueous medium.

[0004] Some surfactants contain traces of inorganic peroxides used in their manufacture. However, even these small amounts of inorganic peroxides can significantly impair the enzymes if they are also present in the cleaning agent.

[0005] Furthermore, for environmental reasons, the use of microplastics such as polyacrylic acid derivatives, which were used in the past as builders and to regulate the viscosity of liquid cleaning systems, is undesirable.

[0006] For manufacturers, it is a challenge to produce highly active, aqueous hand dishwashing detergents that can be precisely dosed and are stable during storage, without adding components that are either undesirable or are now even banned (such as microplastics).

[0007] EP 3 284 805 A1 discloses a hand dishwashing detergent comprising a surfactant system with an anionic surfactant and additionally an amine oxide co-surfactant, a protease and an enzyme stabilizer selected from inorganic potassium salts.

[0008] US 2019 / 0376008 A1 refers to dishwashing detergents comprising a protease and / or amylase, a surfactant system with sodium olefin sulfonate and sodium lauryl ether sulfate as anionic surfactants and at least one amphoteric surfactant, as well as a viscosity regulator.

[0009] DE 10 2017 223 275 A1 describes aqueous liquid cleaning agent compositions containing a synergistic combination of a protease and an amylase, both with a defined sequence, and furthermore a surfactant system comprising an amine oxide, a fatty alcohol ether sulfate and optionally a betaine.

[0010] WO 2014 / 158490 A1 discloses enzyme-containing detergent and pre-wash compositions comprising surfactants, amylase and a reducing agent in a ratio of 1:1 to 3:1, a source of alkalinity, a builder and water, wherein the reducing agent is selected from sodium sulfite, sodium metasulfite and sodium phosphite.

[0011] DE 10 2021 206 648 A1 relates to a hand dishwashing composition comprising surfactants, catalase, and at least one other enzyme. This document explains that the presence of catalase increases the stability of the other enzymes and that potassium salts have a stabilizing effect on hydrolytic enzymes.

[0012] WO 2018 / 086847 A1 discloses amylases with specific amino acid sequences that are particularly suitable for aqueous detergent compositions. This document mentions that reducing agents and antioxidants increase the stability of enzymes. Sodium sulfite and reducing sugar compounds are given as examples.

[0013] The aim of the present invention was to provide an aqueous liquid composition for hand dishwashing that is mild and effective, has a stable storage life, can be dosed economically, provides excellent cleaning results even after storage, and facilitates hand dishwashing.

[0014] This objective was achieved by the aqueous hand dishwashing composition of the present invention by providing a balanced system of components that makes the composition stable in storage (no phase separation, no precipitation of components, maintenance of the activity of the ingredients), is environmentally friendly and can be dosed accurately and therefore economically due to its viscosity. The pH of the composition can be adjusted using pH-modifying ingredients known in the art.

[0018] To enable precise dosing, the viscosity of the composition is preferably in the range of 200 to 8000 mPa*s, preferably in the range of 500 to 7000 or 800 to 6000, preferably 1000 to 5000 or 1200 to 4000 mPa*s at 20 °C (Brookfield viscometer, 3 rpm, spindle 62).

[0019] It is highly preferred that the composition is free of hydrogen peroxide (H2O2), barium peroxide (BaO2), sodium peroxide (Na2O2), potassium peroxide (K2O2) and calcium peroxide (CaO2) and is preferably free of any inorganic peroxides.

[0020] According to the present application, a composition is "free from" a compound if that compound has not been intentionally added to the composition. However, if the compound is present as an impurity in another component added to the composition, it is considered "free from" if the amount of the compound in the composition is less than 0.1 wt.%, less than 0.05 wt.%, less than 0.01 wt.%, less than 0.001 wt.%, or even less than 0.0001 wt.%. In a particularly preferred embodiment, the composition is completely free from said compound, such that the composition contains 0 wt.% of said compound.

[0021] In contrast to the previously mentioned definition, the composition is “free from” any inorganic peroxide if it contains less than 0.0001 wt%, less than 0.00001 wt% or even less than 0.000001 wt%, preferably 0 wt% of the peroxide. Surfactant system (i)

[0094] The following examples describe embodiments of the invention, which are not to be understood as limiting the invention to the embodiments mentioned.

[0095] A basic composition comprising the following components: (ia) Alkyl ether sulfate 11 % (ia) secondary alkanesulfonate 3,5 (ib) Amine oxide 2,5 (ic) Betaine 11 (ii) Protease / Amylase 0.001-1.5% (as active enzyme protein) (iii) Sodium sulfite 0,005-0,5 % (iv) sodium chloride 0-7% (v) Ethanol 0-7 pH regulator, perfume, dyes < 2 Water ad 100 This was used to investigate the stability of the composition, the stability of the active ingredients, and the balanced system for cleaning performance. Compounds (ii) to (v) were added in varying amounts, as indicated below. All percentages are given as weight percent.

[0096] The surfactants used in these examples and all other ingredients have been tested, selected and / or manufactured to ensure that they contribute less than 0.25 ppm, preferably no inorganic peroxide, to the composition. Example 1: Enzyme stability:

[0097] The amine oxide used in the example compositions was a 30 wt% solution of the active ingredient. For a quantity of 2.5 wt% active amine oxide, 8.3 wt% of the 30 wt% amine oxide solution was dosed.

[0098] In this experiment, two samples of the same amine oxide were used. One sample contained approximately 300 ppm residual hydrogen peroxide (used in compositions 1 and 2), and the other sample contained approximately 480 ppm residual hydrogen peroxide (used in composition 3). These concentrations of residual hydrogen peroxide correspond to amounts of 25 ppm and 40 ppm hydrogen peroxide, respectively, in the final compositions.

[0099] All other ingredients used in the examples were tested, selected and / or manufactured to ensure that they contribute less than 0.25 ppm, preferably no inorganic peroxide, to the composition.

[0100] The basic composition was supplemented with sodium sulfite to obtain the following compositions 1 to 3: Table 1 H2 O2 Sodium sulfite Salt (iv) Ethanol Composition 1 25 ppm - - - Composition 2 25 ppm 0.02 wt. - - Composition 3 40 ppm 0.02 wt. -

[0101] All compositions tested in this experiment contained subtilisin and alpha-amylase. The active subtilisin content in the composition was 0.027 wt%, and the active alpha-amylase content was 0.009 wt%. Each enzyme was added in its commercially available form at a dosage of 0.30 wt%.

[0102] The compositions were made up to 100% by weight with water.

[0103] These three compositions were prepared and stored at 30 °C for several weeks. The activity of subtilisin and alpha-amylase was determined on the day of preparation and after 1, 2, 4, and 8 weeks of storage at 30 °C. The respective activity was calculated based on the enzyme activity immediately after preparation of the compositions.

[0104] The following tables show the stability of the enzymes in these compositions. Table 2: Stability of Alpha-Amylase start After 1 week After 2 weeks After 4 weeks After 8 weeks Composition 1 100 33 30 27 23 Composition 2 100 90 83 77 70 Composition 3 100 87 73 63 60 Table 3: Stability of subtilisin Beginn After 1 week After 2 weeks After 4 weeks After 8 weeks Composition 1 100 83 73 70 63 Composition 2 100 100 97 93 93 Composition 3 100 97 93 93 90

[0105] The results show that an inorganic sulfur-based oxidizing agent significantly improves the stability of alpha-amylase and subtilisin in the surfactant-based composition containing traces of inorganic peroxide. Example 2: Storage stability

[0106] During storage of compositions 1 to 3, it was observed that compositions 2 and 3 showed slight precipitation after 4 weeks, which could be dissolved again by gentle swirling.

[0107] To stabilize the composition, sodium chloride and ethanol were added to composition 2 in the amounts specified in Table 4. Table 4 H2 O2 Sodium sulfite Salt (iv) Ethanol Basic composition - - - - Composition 2 25 ppm 0.02 wt.% - - Composition 4 25 ppm 0.02 wt.% 1 wt.% 2.5 wt.% Composition 5 25 ppm 0.02 wt.% 2.5 wt.% 2.5 wt.% Composition 6 25 ppm 0.02 wt.% 5 wt.% 2.5 wt.%

[0108] After 8 weeks of storage, the compositions were examined to determine whether any precipitation was visible. The results are shown in Table 5. Table 5 Look Activity Protease Amylase activity Basic composition Clear solution 92 69 Composition 2 Light precipitation 93 70 Composition 4 Slight cloudiness 92 67 Composition 5 Clear solution 93 68 Composition 6 Clear solution 94 68

[0109] The addition of salt and ethanol led to a stabilization of the composition, so that all ingredients remained dissolved without negatively affecting the activity of the enzymes. Example 3: Color stability

[0110] Compositions 7, 8, and 9 were prepared and were very similar to composition 6. Differences lie in the amounts of sodium sulfite used and in the presence of dye. The dye used in this experiment was a mixture of Acid Violet 43 and Food Blue 5 in a 6:1 ratio, with a total amount of 0.0020 wt% in the compositions. Table 5 H2O2 Sodium sulfite dye Composition 7 25 ppm No positive Composition 8 25 ppm 0.02 wt. positive Composition 9 25 ppm 0.04 wt. positive

[0111] The samples were all the same color at the time the cleaning agents were manufactured. The samples were stored on a windowsill for 12 weeks and then in the dark in a cupboard for another 12 weeks. The temperature during the test was kept stable between 20°C and 25°C.

[0112] After these 24 weeks, color stability was tested by measurement in the L*a*b* color space. These values are listed in Table 6. Table 6 L* a* b* Composition 7 55,86 -20,36 -18,08 Composition 8 47,56 -19,33 -27,50 Composition 9 41,94 -14,50 -37,60

[0113] The values for L*, the black-white axis, show that the presence of sodium sulfite slows down the discoloration towards a higher L* value. The values for b*, the blue-yellow axis, show that the presence of sodium sulfite slows down the discoloration of the blue color.

[0114] The presence of sodium sulfite clearly stabilizes the dyes used in the tested aqueous hand dishwashing composition. Example 4: Model compositions
