AI Technical Summary
Existing low-resistance current measuring resistors exhibit non-optimal temperature coefficients, making current measurements temperature-dependent.
The resistor design features pairs of voltage measuring contacts arranged crosswise, with incisions acting as current shadows to improve electric field distribution, and a resistance element made of low-resistance material like Manganin, ensuring consistent resistance values across varying temperatures.
This configuration reduces temperature dependence, maintaining resistance values within ±1% to ±20% across the entire temperature range, enhancing measurement accuracy and reliability.
Description
[0001] The invention relates to a resistor, in particular a low-ohm current measuring resistor.
[0002] It is known from the prior art (e.g., EP 0 605 800 A1) to measure electrical currents using the so-called four-wire technique using a low-ohm current measuring resistor, also known as a "shunt." The electrical current to be measured is passed through the current measuring resistor, and the voltage drop across a resistance element of the current measuring resistor is measured. According to Ohm's law, the measured voltage drop is then a measure of the electrical current flowing through the current measuring resistor.
[0003] WO 2014 / 161624 A1 discloses such a current measuring resistor, which has several pairs of voltage measuring contacts arranged next to each other with respect to the current flow direction in the current measuring resistor. The individual pairs of voltage measuring contacts each provide a voltage measurement value at different locations on the resistance element. The individual voltage measurement values can then be averaged to increase measurement accuracy. The voltage measurement is performed parallel to the main current flow direction in the current measuring resistor, since the pairs of voltage measuring contacts are not arranged crosswise, but rather in a straight line parallel to the longitudinal axis of the current measuring resistor.
[0004] However, the disadvantage of this well-known current measuring resistor is the suboptimal temperature coefficient, so that the measurement is temperature-dependent.
[0005] For the technical background of the invention, reference should also be made to DE 10 2020 111 634 B3, EP 3 671 225 A1, US 2011 / 0057764 A1, DE 20 2013 011 960 U1, DE 10 2014 011 593 A1, US 2020 / 292588 A1, US 2017 / 307660 A1 and DE 11 2015 004 849 T5.
[0006] The invention is therefore based on the object of creating a correspondingly improved resistor.
[0007] This object is achieved by a resistor according to the invention according to the main claim.
[0008] The resistor according to the invention initially has, in accordance with the known current measuring resistor described at the outset, a first connection part which consists of an electrically conductive conductor material (e.g. copper) and serves to introduce the electrical current to be measured into the resistor.
[0009] In addition, the resistor according to the invention, in accordance with the known current measuring resistor described at the outset, also has a second connection part which consists of an electrically conductive conductor material (e.g. copper) and serves to conduct the electrical current back out of the resistor.
[0010] Furthermore, the resistor according to the invention also has a resistance element which consists of a low-ohmic resistance material (e.g. Manganin ®< ), wherein the resistance element is arranged between the first connection part and the second connection part with respect to the main current flow direction in the resistor, so that the electric current flows through the resistance element during operation.
[0011] Furthermore, the resistor according to the invention has a first pair of voltage measuring contacts with a voltage-side voltage measuring contact for potential measurement at the first connection part on the one hand and with a ground-side voltage measuring contact for potential measurement at the second connection part on the other hand.
[0012] Furthermore, in accordance with the known current measuring resistor described at the outset, the resistor according to the invention also has a second pair of voltage measuring contacts with a voltage-side voltage measuring contact for potential measurement at the first connection part on the one hand and a ground-side voltage measuring contact for potential measurement at the second connection part on the other hand.
[0013] In the known current measuring resistor described above according to WO 2014 / 161624 A1, the pairs of voltage measuring contacts are arranged in such a way that no cross-over measurement occurs, i.e., the connecting lines between the voltage measuring contacts of the pairs run parallel to each other. However, in the known current measuring resistor, this results in a suboptimal temperature dependence of the measurement.
[0014] In contrast, the invention provides for the two pairs of voltage measuring contacts to be arranged crosswise, so that the connecting line between the two voltage measuring contacts of the first pair of voltage measuring contacts intersects the connecting line between the two voltage measuring contacts of the second pair of voltage measuring contacts in a top view of the resistor. The invention thus provides for a crosswise measurement at the different pairs of voltage measuring contacts.
[0015] Furthermore, it should be noted that the invention is not limited to a resistor with only two pairs of voltage measuring contacts. Rather, it is also possible within the scope of the invention to provide a larger number of pairs of voltage measuring contacts, as is the case with the known current measuring resistor according to WO 2014 / 161624 A1 described above. The only important thing here is that the individual pairs of voltage measuring contacts intersect with their connecting lines, as already described above.
[0016] In a preferred embodiment of the invention, there is a notch in each of the two connection parts, as is known from the prior art. Such notches are also referred to as current shadows and serve to positively influence the electric field distribution in the current-sensing resistor. The two notches in the opposing connection parts can be equidistant from the resistance element along the main current flow direction in the resistor, although this is not mandatory.
[0017] Furthermore, it should be noted that the two notches are preferably located on the same side of the resistor and thus originate from the same side edge of the resistor. It is possible for the two notches to extend transversely to the main current flow direction in the resistor for at least part of their length, in order to form a current shadow, as already mentioned above. For example, the two notches can extend toward the center to a depth at which the voltage measuring contacts are also located.
[0018] This is useful so that the notches serving as current shadows shield the voltage measuring contacts accordingly.
[0019] It should also be noted that the two notches can have the same depth starting from the side edge of the resistor. Alternatively, however, the two notches in the two terminals can have different depths and thus extend to different distances from the resistor's center axis.
[0020] The above-mentioned voltage measuring contacts are preferably arranged between the resistance element and the respective notch with respect to the main current flow direction.
[0021] Furthermore, within the scope of the invention, it is possible for the two connection parts to preferably have the same width transverse to the main current flow direction. The resistor according to the invention can therefore be rectangular in plan view. However, it is also possible for the two connection parts to have different widths transverse to the main current flow direction. Thus, the resistor according to the invention can also be L-shaped in plan view.
[0022] Furthermore, it should be noted that the resistor according to the invention preferably has a continuous, straight side edge without kinks on the side with the incisions. On the side opposite the incisions, however, the resistor can have a side edge with at least one kink. This kink can be located, for example, in the first connection part, which serves to introduce the electrical current into the resistor. The width of the first connection part upstream of the kink is then preferably greater than the width of the first connection part downstream of the kink.
[0023] It was already briefly mentioned above that the resistor according to the invention can be L-shaped in plan view. It is advantageous if the depth of the notch in the wider terminal part is smaller than the depth of the notch in the narrower terminal part, as this positively influences the electric field distribution in the resistor.
[0024] The invention enables—as already briefly mentioned above—an improvement in the temperature behavior of the resistor. It should be noted that the resistor according to the invention has a temperature-dependent first resistance value between the two voltage measuring contacts of the first pair, while the resistor between the two voltage measuring contacts of the second pair has a temperature-dependent second resistance value. The cross-measurement according to the invention now enables these two resistance values to be essentially the same regardless of temperature, with a difference of less than ±20%, ±10%, ±5%, ±2%, or ±1% within the entire temperature range from -70°C to +170°C, -40°C to +140°C, -10°C to +110°C, or at least within the entire temperature range from +20°C to +80°C.
[0025] It was briefly mentioned above that the conductor material of the connecting parts can be copper. However, it is also possible for the conductor material of the connecting parts to be a copper alloy, aluminum, or an aluminum alloy.
[0026] The invention also allows for various possibilities regarding the resistance material of the resistance element. For example, the resistance material can be a copper alloy, in particular a copper-manganese-nickel alloy. Examples of these are the resistance alloys Manganin® (CuMn12Ni), Zeranin® (CuMn7Sn), or Noventin® (CuMnNi 25-10). Alternatively, the resistance material can be a nickel-chromium alloy, such as Isaohm® (NiCr20AlSi). Furthermore, the resistance material can also be an iron-chromium alloy, such as AluChrom® (Fe70 / Cr25 / Al5).
[0027] In the preferred embodiment of the invention, the resistance element is electrically and mechanically connected to the two connection parts, for example by a welded connection, with electron beam welding being particularly suitable, as is known, for example, from EP 0 605 800 A1.
[0028] It should also be noted that the terminals are preferably arranged on opposite sides of the resistance element. However, it is also possible for the terminals to be arranged on the same side of the resistance element, so that the current is introduced and discharged on the same side of the resistance element.
[0029] Furthermore, it should be noted that the connecting parts and the resistance element are preferably plate-shaped, whereby the plate-shaped parts can be either flat or curved.
[0030] In general, the resistance material of the resistance element has a higher specific electrical resistance than the conductor material of the connection parts. For example, the resistance material of the resistance element can have a specific electrical resistance of less than 1000 µΩcm, 500 µΩcm, 250 µΩcm, 100 µΩcm, or 50 µΩcm.
[0031] The conductor material of the connecting parts, on the other hand, preferably has a specific electrical resistance of less than 20 µΩcm, 10 µΩcm, 5 µΩcm or 2 µΩcm.
[0032] The resistor as a whole, on the other hand, preferably has a resistance value that is less than 100 Ω, 10 Ω, 1 Ω, 100 mΩ, 10 mΩ, 1 mΩ, 100 µΩ, 10 µΩ or 1 µΩ.
[0033] In the resistor according to the invention, each of the two connection parts can have a power connection to feed the current into or out of the resistor. For example, this power connection can consist of a hole in the respective connection part.
[0034] It should also be mentioned that the resistance can be designed either symmetrically or asymmetrically with respect to the main current flow direction.
[0035] The above-mentioned voltage measuring contacts, on the other hand, are preferably arranged off-center in the resistor with respect to the central axis of the resistor, for example in the lateral third or quarter of the resistor, in particular on the side of the notches.
[0036] The resistor according to the invention was described above as a single component. However, the invention also claims protection for a measuring arrangement with such a resistor for current measurement.
[0037] In addition, the measuring arrangement according to the invention has a voltage measuring device which contains two voltage measuring channels in order to measure the voltage at the two pairs of voltage measuring contacts separately in the two voltage measuring channels.
[0038] Furthermore, the measuring arrangement according to the invention preferably has a computing unit for evaluating the voltage measurements in the two voltage measurement channels. In one variant of the invention, the computing unit calculates an average value from the two voltage measurements and then calculates the current flowing through the resistor from this average value. In another variant of the invention, however, a corresponding current measurement is calculated from each of the two voltage measurements according to Ohm's law, as is known per se from the prior art.
[0039] Other advantageous developments of the invention are characterized in the subclaims or are explained in more detail below together with the description of the preferred embodiments of the invention with reference to the figures. Figure 1A shows a conventional current measuring resistor according to the state of the art with a corresponding measuring arrangement. Figure 1B shows the course of the relative resistance change of the current measuring resistor according to Figure 1A depending on the temperature. Figure 2A shows a current measuring resistor according to the invention as part of a corresponding measuring arrangement. Figure 2B shows the relative resistance change as a function of temperature for the current measuring resistor according to Figure 2A . Figure 3A shows a modification of the current measuring resistor according to Figure 2A with two lateral incisions (current shadow). Figure 3Bshows again the course of the relative resistance change for the current measuring resistor according to Figure 3A depending on the temperature. Figure 4A shows a variation of Figure 3A with an L-shaped current measuring resistor. Figure 4B shows the curve of the relative resistance change as a function of temperature for the current measuring resistor according to Figure 4A . Figure 4C shows the field profile and the equipotential lines in the current measuring resistor according to Figure 4A. Figure 5 shows a measuring arrangement according to the invention in a schematic representation. Figure 6 shows a variation of Figure 5 .
[0040] In the following, the drawing according to Figure 1A which represents a conventional current measuring resistor 1 according to the prior art.
[0041] First, the conventional current measuring resistor 1 has a plate-shaped connecting part 2 made of copper, which serves to introduce an electrical current I to be measured into the current measuring resistor 1.
[0042] Furthermore, the current measuring resistor 1 has a plate-shaped connecting part 3 made of copper, which serves to divert the electrical current I back out of the current measuring resistor 1.
[0043] For this purpose, the two plate-shaped connecting parts 2, 3 each have a bore 4 or 5, to which, for example, a screw can be connected, as is known per se from the prior art.
[0044] In the illustrated embodiment, the two connection parts 2, 3 have the same width b1 and b2 respectively at right angles to the current flow direction.
[0045] Between the two connecting parts 2, 3 there is a plate-shaped resistance element 6 made of a resistance material (e.g., Manganin ®< ), wherein the resistance element 6 is connected at its edges to the adjacent connecting parts 2, 3 by electron beam welding. The electrical current I to be measured is thus introduced into the current measuring resistor 1 via the connecting part 2, then flows through the resistance element 6, and is then discharged from the current measuring resistor 1 via the other connecting part 3.
[0046] Furthermore, the current measuring resistor has two pairs of voltage measuring contacts 7.1, 7.2 and 8.1, 8.2 respectively in order to measure the electrical voltage dropping across the resistance element 6, which according to Ohm's law forms a measure of the electrical current I flowing through the current measuring resistor 1.
[0047] Furthermore, the drawing shows a voltage measuring device 9 with two voltage measuring channels, wherein the first voltage measuring channel of the voltage measuring device 9 is connected to the two voltage measuring contacts 7.1, 7.2 of the first pair, while the second voltage measuring channel of the voltage measuring device 9 is connected to the two voltage measuring contacts 8.1, 8.2 of the second pair. The voltage measuring device 9 can therefore measure the two voltage measurement values separately.
[0048] It should be noted that the two pairs of voltage measuring contacts 7.1, 7.2 and 8.1, 8.2 are not arranged crosswise, but rather are arranged side by side parallel to the main current flow direction in the current measuring resistor 1. The drawing shows a connecting line 10 between the voltage measuring contacts 7.1, 7.2 of the first voltage measuring channel and another connecting line 11 between the two voltage measuring contacts 8.1, 8.2 of the second voltage measuring channel. The two connecting lines 10, 11 run exactly parallel to each other.
[0049] With this arrangement of the voltage measuring contacts 7.1, 7.2, 8.1, 8.2, the current measuring resistor 1 has a relatively large temperature dependence, as can be seen from Figure 1BThe solid line shows the relative resistance change as a function of temperature between the two voltage measuring contacts 7.1, 7.2 of the first measuring channel. The dashed line, on the other hand, shows the relative resistance change as a function of temperature between the two voltage measuring contacts 8.1, 8.2 of the second measuring channel.
[0050] The Figures 2A and 2B show corresponding representations for a current measuring resistor 1 according to the invention, these representations largely corresponding to the representation described above according to the Figure 1A or 1B, so that to avoid repetition, reference is made to the above description, the same reference numerals being used for corresponding details.
[0051] A special feature of this embodiment according to the invention is that the two connecting lines 10, 11 between the voltage measuring contacts 7.1, 7.2 on the one hand and between the voltage measuring contacts 8.1, 8.2 on the other hand intersect in plan view. This results in the temperature dependence of the resistance value for the two pairs of voltage measuring contacts 7.1, 7.2 and 8.1, 8.2 being the same, as can be seen from Figure 2B is evident.
[0052] The Figures 3A and 3B again show a modification of the preceding figures, so that in order to avoid repetition, reference is made to the above description, the same reference numerals being used for corresponding details.
[0053] A special feature here is that the current measuring resistor 1 has a notch 12 or 13 in the two connection parts 2, 3, which is also called a current shadow and positively influences the electric field distribution in the current measuring resistor one.
[0054] The two incisions 12, 13 each originate from the same side edge of the current measuring resistor 1 and extend perpendicular to the main current flow direction in the current measuring resistor 1 to a depth t1 or t2, wherein the two depths t1, t2 are of equal size in this embodiment.
[0055] The voltage measuring contacts 7.1, 8.1 are located in the current measuring resistor 1 between the resistance element 6 and the notch 13 with respect to the main current flow direction.
[0056] The other voltage measuring contacts 7.2, 8.2, however, are located with respect to the main current flow direction in the current measuring resistor 1 between the resistance element 6 and the other notch 12.
[0057] The cuts 12, 13 reduce the temperature dependence of the measurement, as can be seen directly from a comparison of Figure 3B with Figure 2B is evident.
[0058] The Figures 4A and 4B show a further modification of the current measuring resistor 1 described above, so that in order to avoid repetition, reference is again made to the above description, the same reference numerals being used for corresponding details.
[0059] A special feature of the current measuring resistor 1 in this embodiment is that the current measuring resistor 1 is L-shaped when viewed from above. This means that the width b1 of the connecting part 2 is significantly larger than the width b2 of the other connecting part 3.
[0060] Furthermore, the depth t1 of the notch 12 is significantly smaller than the depth t2 of the other notch 13.
[0061] Figure 4C shows the course of electric field lines 14 and equipotential lines 15 in the current measuring resistor 1 according to Figure 4A .
[0062] Figure 5 shows a schematic representation of a measuring arrangement according to the invention with the voltage measuring device 9 for measuring voltage across the two measuring channels. The voltage measuring device 9 generates two voltage measured values U1, U2, which are output separately to a computing unit 16. The computing unit 16 then calculates two current measured values I1, I2 for the electrical current I flowing through the current measuring resistor 1 in accordance with Ohm's law.
[0063] In the modified embodiment according to Figure 6the computing unit 16 calculates an average value from the two voltage measured values U1, U2 and then outputs an averaged current value I AVERAGE. List of reference symbols
