1528 results about "Reference model" patented technology

A reference model in systems, enterprise, and software engineering is an abstract framework or domain-specific ontology consisting of an interlinked set of clearly defined concepts produced by an expert or body of experts in order to encourage clear communication. A reference model can represent the component parts of any consistent idea, from business functions to system components, as long as it represents a complete set. This frame of reference can then be used to communicate ideas clearly among members of the same community.

Globally accessible computer network-based broadband communication system with user-controllable quality of information delivery and flow priority

A method for providing broadband communications over a multi-layered network having a plurality of Open System Interconnection (OSI) Reference Model layers functioning therein includes monitoring at least one OSI reference model layer functioning in the multi-layered network. A quality of service event is determined whether to have occurred in the multi-layered network. The quality of service event is determined to have occurred at a layer N in the OSI reference model. Network provisioning is changed at a layer less than N in response to the quality of service event, and a signal is provided when the network provisioning at the layer less than N has been changed. A system for providing broadband communications includes a multi-layered network, a network monitor, and a network controller. The multi-layered network has a plurality of Open System Interconnection (OSI) reference model layers functioning therein. The network monitor is coupled to the multi-layered network, and the network monitor is adapted to monitor at least one OSI reference model layer functioning in the multi-layered network, determine that a quality of service event has occurred in the multi-layer network, and determine that the quality of service event occurred at a layer N in the OSI reference model. The network controller is coupled to the multi-layered network, and the network monitor is adapted to respond to the quality of service event in the multi-layered network by changing the network provisioning at a layer less than N.

Robot system having image processing function

A robot system having an image processing function capable of detecting position and/or posture of individual workpieces randomly arranged in a stack to determine posture, or posture and position of a robot operation suitable for the detected position and/or posture of the workpiece. Reference models are created from two-dimensional images of a reference workpiece captured in a plurality of directions by a first visual sensor and stored. Also, the relative positions/postures of the first visual sensor with respect to the workpiece at the respective image capturing, and relative position/posture of a second visual sensor to be situated with respect to the workpiece are stored. Matching processing between an image of a stack of workpieces captured by the camera and the reference models are performed and an image of a workpiece matched with one reference model is selected. A three-dimensional position/posture of the workpiece is determined from the image of the selected workpiece, the selected reference model and position/posture information associated with the reference model. The position/posture of the second visual sensor to be situated for measurement is determined based on the determined position/posture of the workpiece and the stored relative position/posture of the second visual sensor, and precise position/posture of the workpiece is measured by the second visual sensor at the determined position/posture of the second visual sensor. A picking operation for picking out a respective workpiece from a randomly arranged stack can be performed by a robot based on the measuring results of the second visual sensor.

The underlying invention generally relates to the field of mobile computing in a wireless mobile networking environment with distributed multimedia applications (130). More specifically, it is directed to the field of Quality-of-Service (QOS) management for adaptive real-time services running on mobile devices and an End-to-End Negotiation Protocol (E2ENP) based on a novel usage of a session-layer protocol (SIP) in conjunction with extensions of a session description protocol implementation (SDP, SDPng) and the Extensible Markup Language (XML) for defining user profile and terminal capability information which allow to enforce and use hierarchical QOS Contract specifications. Thereby, said End-to-End Negotiation Protocol (E2ENP) is applied to derive negotiable information, which enables a prenegotiation, fast negotiation and a fast, dynamic re-negotiation of the end-to-end quality and capabilities for a telecommunication session, for multiple configurations of two or a multiplicity of end peers and/or middleware in a consistent, reliable, and incremental way by enabling the mobile applications to efficiently and timely react to QoS violations. Furthermore, the invention pertains to the concept and realization of a novel E2ENP User Agent (128) which encapsulates the signaling part of E2ENP and expresses the information to be negotiated in an interchangeable format in such a way that heterogeneous applications (130) can easily agree on a reference model applied to orchestrate local, peer, and network resources according to the preferences and profiles of the respective user in a coordinated manner. According to one embodiment of the invention, the employed E2ENP sessionlayer protocol Application Programming Interfaces (101a-e) are independent of the actually used session-layer protocol and session description protocol implementations.
