System and method for controlling access rights to and security of digital content in a distributed information system, e.g., Internet

A system and method for limiting access to and preventing unauthorized use of an owner's digital content stored in an information network and available to clients under authorized conditions. The network includes at least one server coupled to a storage device for storing the limited access digital content encrypted using a random-generated key, known as a Document Encryption Key (DEK). The DEK is further encrypted with the server's public key, using a public/private key pair algorithm and placed in a digital container stored in a storage device and including as a part of the meta-information which is in the container. The client's workstation is coupled to the server for acquiring the limited access digital content under the authorized condition. A Trusted Information Handler (TIH) is validated by the server after the handler provides a data signature and type of signing algorithm to transaction data descriptive of the purchase agreement between the client and the owner. After the handler has authenticated, the server decrypts the encrypted DEK with its private key and re-encrypts the DEK with the handler's public key ensuring that only the information handler can process the information. The encrypted DEK is further encrypted with the client's public key personalizing the digital content to the client. The client's program decrypts the DEK with his private key and passes it along with the encrypted content to the handler which decrypts the DEK with his private key and proceeds to decrypt the content for displaying to the client.

Apparatus and method for providing trusted network security

A session key is established for accessing a trusted network from a browser. An authentication process receives identification information from a user at the browser, and authenticates the user by checking the identification information against an authentication database. If the authentication database authenticates the user, a session key is created and stored at the browser. If the user is authenticated, a user profile defining access rights for the user is also retrieved. The user is then presented with access options based on the access rights defined in the user profile. In response to a user selection from the access page, the browser forwards an information request to the trusted network. The request includes a session key. A speaker object processes the information request and session key to form a network request packet. The network request packet is formed in a manner that allows authentication of the speaker object. The session packet is forwarded to a trusted network and processed. The packet is first authenticated to determine if it originated from the speaker object, and then the key is checked for validity at the trusted server. If the key is valid, the information request is processed and the information is returned to the user for display on the browser.

Systems and methods for electronically verifying and processing information

InactiveUS20030009418A1Reduce riskFacilitate a convenient, efficient and expeditious credit-risk evaluationFinanceLogisticsInternet privacyProcess information
A computer implemented method and system which provides current, reliable and accurate personal information regarding a prospective borrower and/or co-borrower. The system includes a central server which receives requests for personal information relating to proposed borrowers, which in turn parses out similar requests relating to that borrower to information sources such as, among others, the Internal Revenue Service, the Social Security Administration, the Daily Banking System and the pertinent credit bureaus. Information corresponding to the respective requests is retrieved from the information sources, and then compiled into a report format and forwarded to the requested party. The requested party may be the borrower/consumer individually, or may be a mortgage broker/agent, lending institution or other party authorized to request and obtain the information. An electronic signature or signatures accompany the request to the central server, which uses same to retrieve personal information data pertaining to the signatory(ies). Various encryption schemes may be employed for security purposes. The invention permits for the retrieval, compilation and reporting of relevant, personal data to a party or parties involved in the loan decision making process without any opportunity for the information to be tampered with by the proposed borrower(s) because the information is obtained electronically and directly from the information depositories.

Apparatus and methods for developing conversational applications

Apparatus with accompanying subsystems and methods for developing conversational computer applications. As a user interface, the apparatus allows for a user to initiate the conversation. The apparatus also answers simple and complex questions, understands complex requests, pursues the user for further information when the request is incomplete, and in general provides customer support with a human like conversation while, at the same time, it is capable to interact with a company's proprietary database. As a development tool, the apparatus allows a software developer to implement a conversational system much faster than takes, with current commercial systems to implement basic dialog flows. The apparatus contains three major subsystems: a state transition inference engine, a heuristic answer engine and a parser generator with semantic augmentations. A main process broker controls the flow and the interaction between the different subsystems. The state transition inference engine handles requests that require processing a transaction or retrieving exact information. The heuristic answer engine answers questions that do not require exact answers but enough information to fulfill the user's request. The parser generator processes the user's natural language request, that is, it processes the syntactical structure of the natural language requests and it builds a conceptual structure of the request. After the parser generator processes the user's request, a main process broker feeds the conceptual structure to either the heuristic answer engine or to the state transition inference engine. The interaction between the main process broker and the subsystems creates a conversational environment between the user and the apparatus, while the apparatus uses information from proprietary databases to provide information, or process information, during the course of the conversation. The apparatus is equipped with a programming interface that allows implementers to declare and specify transactions based requests and answers to a multiplicity of questions. The apparatus may be used with a speech recognition interface, in which case, the apparatus improves the recognition results through the context implicitly created by the apparatus.

Pressure alarms and reports system module for proactive maintenance application

Methods and systems for proactively maintaining a telephone system local loop. One embodiment includes communicating with a communications network and acquiring information associated with pressure or flow sensors along fiber optic cables. Proactive maintenance of the fiber optic cables is predicted using the information associated with pressure or flow sensors. The embodiment may further include generating and dispatching work order information describing the predicted proactive maintenance. The embodiment may also include predicting proactive maintenance of telephone lines using information from a Dynamic Network Analyzer and using information from a Loop Facilities and Control System. Another embodiment includes a system for predicting proactive maintenance of a telephone system local loop. This embodiment includes a Pressure Alarms and Reports System Module, a database stored in memory, and a processor. The Pressure Alarms and Reports System Module communicates with a communications network and acquires at least one of i) pressure information associated with fiber optic cables and ii) flow information associated with fiber optic cables. The database stores the acquired information. The processor processes information stored in the database and generates predicted proactive maintenance.

Vehicle sharing system and method for allocating vehicles based on state of charge

A shared vehicle system includes a central facility, at least one vehicle distribution port facility and a plurality or fleet of vehicles, each having a vehicle subsystem. In general, the central station and port facility and the vehicle subsystems communicate in a manner to allow a user to enter information at a port facility. That information is then communicated to the central facility, where the information is processed to select a vehicle from the fleet to allocate to the user at the port facility. Selection of a vehicle for allocation to a user may be based on selecting an available or soon to be available vehicle according to various algorithms that take into account the vehicles state of charge. The central station also communicates with the port facility and the vehicle subsystem to notify the user of the selected vehicle, to provide secure user access to the selected vehicle, to monitor the location and operating status of vehicles in the fleet, to monitor the state of charge of electric vehicles and to provide other functions. The vehicles communicate with the central station to notify the central station of the PIN number of the individual attempting to use the vehicle, and of vehicle parameters such as state of charge and location of the vehicle.
