A bipolar electrosurgical scissors for use in open or endoscopic surgery has a pair of opposed blade members pivotally joined to one another and to the distal end of the scissors itself by a rivet which extends through a insulated bushing member. Each of the blade members comprises a blade support and a blade itself, each fabricated from metal, such as stainless steel. The blades are affixed to their associated supports by means of a suitable adhesive or adhesive composite material such as a fiberglass reinforced epoxy exhibiting dielectric properties. The invention relates to an aerogel composite material, in particular to a glass fiber reinforced silicon dioxide aerogel composite material and a preparation method thereof. The excellent properties of aerogel are maintained, the mechanical properties of the aerogel are reinforced, and the glass fiber reinforced silicon dioxide aerogel composite material has good integrity and certain strength. The glass fiber reinforced silicon dioxide aerogel composite material is prepared by compounding glass fiber and silicon dioxide aerogel, wherein the glass fiber is a reinforcement, and the content ofthe glass fiber accounts for 1-15% total mass of a sample; the silicon dioxide aerogel is a matrix, tetraethoxysilane is a silicon source material, and methyltrimethoxysilane or methyltriethoxysilaneis used as a silicon source co-precursor. The preparation method comprises the following steps of: firstly, pretreating the glass fiber; then, preparing glass fiber reinforced silicon dioxide composite wet gel; and finally, aging, secondarily modifying and drying the silicon dioxide composite wet gel.

Holey optical fibers (e.g. photonic fibers, random-hole fibers) are fabricated with quantum dots disposed in the holes. The quantum dots can provide light amplification and sensing functions, for example. When used for sensing, the dots will experience altered optical properties (e.g. altered fluorescence or absorption wavelength) in response to certain chemicals, biological elements, radiation, high energy particles, electrical or magnetic fields, or thermal/mechanical deformations. A formaldehyde-free curable aqueous composition containing polyvinyl alcohol, a multi-functional crosslinking agent, and, optionally, a catalyst. The composition may be used as a binder for non-woven products such as fiberglass insulation. A method of fabricating compact alkali vapor filled cells that have volumes of 1 cm³ or less that are useful in atomic frequency reference devices such as atomic clocks. According to one embodiment the alkali vapor filled cells are formed by sealing the ends of small hollow glass fibers. According to another embodiment the alkali vapor filled cells are formed by anodic bonding of glass plates to silicon wafers to seal the openings of holes formed in the silicon wafers. An insulation blanket is disclosed that contains fire-blocking materials for preventing rapid penetration of fire into an aircraft fuselage in case of a fire outside the aircraft. The insulation blanket contains at least one layer of fiberglass or other thermal-acoustic insulation material without fire-blocking properties, and one or more layers of fire-blocking material. The fire blocking material is wider than the thermal-acoustic insulation so that it may be folded against and attached to adjacent structural frame members of the fuselage. In the alternative, a thermal-acoustic insulation material is used that has fire-blocking properties instead of the separate layers of fire-blocking and thermal-acoustic insulation materials. A method for installing insulation blankets according to the present invention is disclosed, whereby a fire-blocking insulation portion of the blanket is folded against and attached to frame members of the aircraft using attachment posts or spring clips.
