Description
[0001] The invention relates to a device for arranging at least one wick holder with a wick in a candle container, comprising a thin plate made of heat-resistant material with a bendable pull tab and a hole for optionally passing through a wick.
[0002] The device according to the invention is a precautionary measure for the use of container candles and refills with one or more textile or wooden wicks for container candles with various sizes / diameters and wick numbers.
[0003] It is known from the prior art that various adhesives are used to fix wick holders in containers for container candles.
[0004] The disadvantage of using permanent adhesives to secure the wick holder is that the candle container is not reusable for candles, as the wick holder cannot be removed. Furthermore, if the adhesive is applied incorrectly (dirty adhesive surfaces, too little adhesive, insufficient drying time, etc.) or if the high temperatures generated by the candle burning are high, the adhesive can dissolve. If the wick holder comes loose, it can drift, tip over, and the wick can extinguish itself, or the still-burning wick can shift and come too close to the sides of the container. The uneven temperature redistribution caused by this can cause the glass to shatter, resulting in personal injury, property damage, or even fire.
[0005] In addition to their candles in containers, many manufacturers also offer refills for these containers. Even with refills, it's extremely important that the wick holder is centered on the glass.
[0006] Some manufacturers instruct their customers to clean the glass and attach the included adhesive dot to the glass. Others advise their customers to slightly melt the wax from the refill to secure the wick. Still others provide no instructions at all regarding how to attach the wick holder.
[0007] All of these methods pose a significant risk of inadequately securing the wick, potentially making the candle dangerous. They also require the customer to perform the refilling process flawlessly. For example, if even a trace of wax remains in the container, it's highly unlikely that the adhesive dot will be able to hold the wick holder in the correct position.
[0008] Candle manufacturers often offer different fragrances, but these are usually produced in the same containers. Due to the different compositions of the fragrances, it is very likely that a candle system with fragrance A will require a different wick type and size than fragrance B to achieve a satisfactory burning result.
[0009] Theoretically, it would also be possible to directly manufacture wick holders with larger base plates to ensure that the wick holder cannot be displaced if the adhesive comes loose. However, this would require redesigning all machines.
[0010] Furthermore, this would be very difficult to implement, as the wick holders would have to be aligned for a wide variety of container diameters, and for dozens of different types of wicks.
[0011] US 2022 / 0228740 A1 discloses a device for arranging a wick holder with a wick in a candle container. The device comprises a metal plate with a hole in the center for threading the wick. The wick anchor, which is located on the underside of the plate and to which the wick is attached, is held in place by the weight of the plate at the bottom of a container. Two brackets or pins for positioning the plate are also attached to the plate.
[0012] US D919,840 S and US 2,240,071 A also show devices for arranging a wick holder with a wick in a candle container, which have a plate in the center of which is a hole for threading the wick. The wick holder or the wick is held to the plate by means of clamping devices formed by cuts in the plate, which simultaneously also form the border of the hole. In the device of US D919,840 S, several holes with clamping devices can be provided per plate. CN 114 517 131 A discloses a device for arranging a wick holder with a wick in a candle container, comprising a thin plate made of heat-resistant material and a fixing hole for passing a wick through, wherein clamping tabs are provided on the plate to which the wick holder can be attached.
[0013] The object of the invention is to provide a device for arranging at least one wick holder with a wick in a candle container, by the use of which different types of wick holders can be held in the correct position in the candle container without adhesive.
[0014] This object is achieved by a device having the features of claim 1.
[0015] To secure the wick holder, it is clamped into the appropriate cutouts of the device according to the invention. This prevents it from shifting, even at high temperatures.
[0016] The cutouts of the device are designed to work for several different types of wick holders, for wick holders for textile wicks of different dimensions, but also for wooden wick holders in various designs.
[0017] The size / diameter of the device is adapted to the size of the candle container so that the device rests on the bottom of the candle container and there is as little play as possible between the edges of the device and the candle container.
[0018] This prevents the device, and consequently the clamped wick holders, from shifting or tipping over. Due to the additional weight of the device, it's impossible for the device or the wick holders to float on the liquid wax.
[0019] Using the device in container candle systems eliminates the need for adhesives to secure the wick holder, as the wick holder is mechanically secured in its intended position. This reduces the risk of the wick holder becoming displaced in the liquid wax, causing the burning wick to come too close to the container walls, and thus potentially becoming dangerous due to uneven temperature redistribution.
[0020] Because the wick holder is clamped into the device, it also simplifies removal after the candle has burned. This makes it easier to clean the container and remove wax residue for reuse.
[0021] A new container candle refill with the device can then be easily placed into the container without the risk of the wick holder not being sufficiently fixed to the container.
[0022] This prevents premature and unnecessary disposal of candle containers. Instead, they can be more easily reused.
[0023] Furthermore, the use of aids (wick setters for centering) in production is no longer necessary due to the appropriately placed cuts in the device.
[0024] The size / diameter of the device is adapted to the size of the candle container with as little play as possible.
[0025] Consisting of a thin, heat-resistant plate (e.g. aluminum) with a flexible pull tab and cuts for the mechanical fixation of different types of wick holders, the device serves as a safety device for container candles and refills.
[0026] The disadvantages of the wick holder possibly shifting in the prior art are solved by the shape and the clamping mechanism of the device.
[0027] Various types of wick holders (textile and wooden) are held in the correct position by the specially shaped cuts in the device. It also allows for easy removal of the wick holders after the candle has burned out, allowing the container to be reused. Fig. 1 shows the device flat from above, in both the version for single-wick candles and the version for multi-wick candles. The latter serves as an example; the concept of the device can be adapted for different container sizes and numbers of wicks. The various cuts for attaching the different wick holders are visible; these are positioned symmetrically opposite each other. Fig. 2 shows the device prepared with textile wicks and textile wick holders with a curved pull tab (in the single-wick and multi-wick versions as an example). Fig. 3 shows the device with wooden wicks and wooden wick holders of type A ("high profile" holder) with a curved pull tab (in the single-wick and multi-wick versions as an example). Fig. 4 shows the device with wooden wicks and wooden wick holders of type B ("low profile" holder) with a curved pull tab (in the single-wick and multi-wick versions as an example). Fig.Fig. 5 shows a side view of a section through a candle with a textile wick in the device and how it is inserted into the candle vessel (in single wick and multi-wick versions as examples). Fig. 6 shows a side view of a section through a candle with a wooden wick in the device and how it is inserted into the candle vessel (in single wick and multi-wick versions as examples). Fig. 7 shows a side view of a section through a used candle with textile wicks and wooden wicks in the device and how they are removed from the candle vessel (in single wick and multi-wick versions as examples). Fig. 8 shows candles with textile wicks (in single wick and multi-wick versions as examples) and how they are inserted into the candle vessel. Fig. 9 shows candles with wooden wicks (in single wick and multi-wick versions as examples) and how they are inserted into the candle vessel.
[0028] In the figures, devices according to the invention are shown as examples both in single-wick design and in multi-wick design.
[0029] As from Fig. 1 As can be seen, the device according to the invention comprises a heat-resistant plate or disc 1 made of aluminum with a (pulling) tab 2 for simplified removal after the container candle / refill has been used. The plate or disc 1 is manufactured in one piece from flat aluminum, with the pulling tab 2 bent inward at an angle to allow easy removal of the device after the candle has been used.
[0030] On the plate or disc 1, there are various cuts 3, 4b, which clamp the wick holder in place. The cuts 3 are symmetrically positioned opposite each other.
[0031] The cuts are centered on single-wick candles and evenly spaced on multi-wick candles.
[0032] The shape of cuts 3, 4b, 6a, 6b is adapted to the shape of the wick holder.
[0033] As from Fig. 2 As can be seen, the fixing hole 4b is used to fix textile wicks 4 and textile wick holders 4a. The textile wick 4 with the textile wick holder 4a is guided through the fixing hole 4b and fixed in the appropriate position by the clamping tabs for wick holder 3.
[0034] Due to the different designs of the wooden wick holders, different cuts are required for their fixation. The cuts in the fixing notches 6a, 6b on the opposing clamping tabs 3 are used for this purpose.
[0035] Out of Fig. 3 it is clear how wooden wicks 5 are fixed with wooden wick holders type A ("High Profile") 5a.
[0036] The fixing notch 6a for wooden wick holders type A ("High Profile") is used to fix the wooden wick holder type A ("High Profile") 5a.
[0037] The clamping tabs 3 are bent slightly until the open sides of the wooden wick holder 5a engage in the symmetrical fixing notches 6a. Releasing the clamping tabs returns them to their original position, thus holding the wooden wick holder 5a in place.
[0038] Fig. 4 shows how wooden wicks 5 are secured with wooden wick holders type B ("Low Profile") 5b. The clamping tabs 3 are slightly bent until the opening of the wooden wick holder snaps into the symmetrical fixing notches 6b for wooden wick holders type B ("Low Profile") 5b.
[0039] By releasing the clamping tabs, they return to their original position and thus hold the wooden wick holder 5b in position.
[0040] To make a candle, after the appropriate textile or wooden wick 4, 5 with wick holder 4a, 5a, 5b has been fixed in the correct position by means of clamping tabs 3 and notches 4b, 6a, 6b, the device is placed in the candle vessel and covered with wax.
[0041] Vessel candle refills can be created either with a suitable mold (e.g., a silicone mold) or in the designated candle vessel. These act as a negative, and the refill is removed after the wax hardens.
[0042] The Fig. 5 and Fig. 6 show an elevation of a vessel candle refill with textile 4 or wooden wicks 5 and wax 8, which are inserted into the candle vessel 7.
[0043] When used correctly, the device prevents the wick holders from becoming loose and shifting. This prevents the wick holder from coming too close to the sides of the vessel 7, which could potentially cause uneven temperature redistribution.
[0044] In Fig. 7 the removal of the device can be seen.
[0045] After the wax of the candle has been used up by the burning process, the device, together with most of the wax residues 8a and the burned-out wick 9, can be easily removed from the vessel 7 by means of the bent pull tab 2.
[0046] The rest of the remaining wax can be removed with a cloth, for example.
[0047] After cleaning the vessel, a candle refill can be inserted using the device for secure fixation of the wick, as shown in Fig. 7 and Fig. 8 is evident.
