AI Technical Summary
Installing a permanent magnet on overlapping openings is challenging due to the presence of a covering part, which causes level shifts and bevels, making it difficult to achieve the necessary proximity to the magnetically controlled switch, and the screw fixing process can damage the covering part or compromise the detector's operation.
A support member with a first fixing wing and a support wing connected by a junction line, allowing the permanent magnet to be securely positioned on the covering part, with an adhesive internal face and a housing that can accommodate different magnet sizes, facilitating easy installation and minimizing damage.
The support member simplifies the installation of opening detectors by ensuring the permanent magnet is close to the magnetically controlled switch, enhancing the reliability and aesthetics of the detector while avoiding damage to the covering part.

Abstract
Description
Detector for opening an overlapping opening
[0001] The present invention relates to an opening detector for an overlapping opening, and more particularly to a support member for placing, on this overlapping opening, a permanent magnet of an opening detector for said overlapping opening.
[0002] Known in the state of the art are numerous detectors for opening an opening mounted to move relative to a frame (a frame or a structure) between an open position in which the opening at least partially frees a passage through the frame and a closed position in which the opening closes this passage.
[0003] Some of these opening detectors are based on a magnetically controlled switch (or commutator), of the flexible reed switch type (or ILS, better known as Reed switches), intended to be fixed to the frame, and a permanent magnet intended to be fixed to the opening so that, when the opening is in the closed position, this permanent magnet is opposite and in the immediate vicinity of the magnetically controlled switch. According to a conventional operation of these opening detectors, the magnetically controlled switch adopts a first closed or open state when it is under the influence of the magnetic field of the permanent magnet (i.e. when the opening is in the closed position) and a second open or closed state when it is free from the influence of the magnetic field of the permanent magnet (i.e. when the opening is in the open position).
[0004] For this purpose, the permanent magnet is, in practice, placed in a box fixed to the opening. This box must, on the one hand, be securely fixed to the opening to withstand the frequent slamming and stresses when opening and closing the opening and, on the other hand, be, when the opening is in the closed position, sufficiently close (in particular, below a predefined distance) to the magnetically controlled switch fixed to the frame. Indeed, the cooperation between the permanent magnet and the magnetically controlled switch is generally at the heart of a larger security system where the slightest negligence in the installation of these elements can have particularly serious consequences.
[0005] However, installing the permanent magnet is often a delicate and demanding operation and represents a challenge for the operator in more than one way, particularly on overlapping openings.
[0006] Here, an overlapping opening is understood to mean any opening incorporating a covering wing, also called a covering lip, covering strip, covering strip, covering or, more generally, a covering part intended to be applied against the frame (the frame, the chassis or the frame) when the opening is in the closed position. This covering part, generally in the shape of a rectangular parallelepiped, extends at least one of the edges of the opening to partially cover the frame so as to complete the closure by the opening of the opening framed by this frame. Overlapping openings are, most of the time, peripheral openings such as an entrance span, a French window or a window opening onto an exterior. The covering part is, most often, intended for sealing, aesthetic and / or sound or thermal insulation functions.Moreover, a seal is often placed in this overlapping part to press against the frame when the opening is in the closed position.
[0007] An overlapping opening thus has on its edge a flap (or a rebate) whose thickness corresponds to that of the overlapping part. The difficulties encountered in placing the permanent magnet on an overlapping opening are linked to the presence of this overlapping part in the installation area of said magnet.
[0008] As illustrated by the, the covering part1 in fact causes a level shift between the plane of the frame2 and that of the opening intended to receive the box housing the permanent magnet3. The covering part1 introduces a gapE1 corresponding to the thickness of this covering part1 which causes the permanent magnet3 to move away from the magnetically controlled switch4. To reduce this gapE1 by bringing the magnetically controlled switch4 to approximately the same level as the permanent magnet3, recourse is often made to adding a shim under the box of the magnetically controlled switch4. The operator is thus forced to find the shim suitable in both shape and color, since it is often not supplied with the opening detector because it is directly dependent on the thickness of the covering part1 specific to each opening.This adaptation operation is therefore painful and time-consuming, with, most of the time, an unsightly final result.
[0009] Another difficulty is related to the bevel or chamfer of the covering part on its side, which imposes another gap tending to further distance the permanent magnet from the magnetically controlled switch. For aesthetic reasons, a bevel is present on almost all the covering parts (rare are the openings having a right-angled covering part). A rounding on the edge of the covering part forces the operator to place the permanent magnet at a location even further from the magnetically controlled switch.
[0010] Yet another difficulty arises in the case of screw fixing of the housing housing the permanent magnet3 to the overlapping opening leaf. By seeking to fix this housing to the covering part1 in the immediate vicinity of its edge so that the permanent magnet3 is, when the overlapping opening leaf is in the closed position, as close as possible to the magnetically controlled switch4 (i.e. by minimizing the gap E2), damage to this covering part1 is inevitable at the slightest inattention or clumsiness. Particular attention on the part of the operator is therefore required to find a non-obvious balance between respecting a minimum distance between the two components of the opening detector and the integrity of the covering part1.
[0011] Furthermore, screw fixing of the box housing the magnetically controlled switch4 as close as possible to the free edge of the frame2 to compensate for a distant fixing of the box housing the permanent magnet3 is not without risks because a minimum spacingE3 must be respected between the edge of the covering part1 and the box housing the magnetically controlled switch4 to avoid collusion when the overlapping opening is slammed / closed. Damage to the overlapping opening when screw fixing the permanent magnet3 and / or the magnetically controlled switch4 is relatively common.
[0012] Furthermore, the accumulation of all these spacings to which the arrangement of the permanent magnet and the magnetically controlled switch is exposed can compromise the operation of the opening detector.
[0013] An object of the present invention is to at least partially overcome the aforementioned drawbacks.
[0014] Another object of the present invention is to simplify the operation of installing an opening detector on an overlapping opening.
[0015] To this end, there is proposed, firstly, a support member for the installation, on an overlapping opening provided with a covering part having a flat and an edge, of a permanent magnet of an opening detector of said overlapping opening, this support member comprising - a first fixing wing intended to be fixed on the flat of the covering part; - a support wing intended to be placed against the edge of the covering part, this support wing integrating a housing intended to receive said permanent magnet, the first fixing wing and the support wing being connected to each other by a first junction line.
[0016] Various additional features may be provided, alone or in combination:- the first fixing wing comprises an adhesive inner face intended to come into contact with the flat of the covering part;- the support wing comprises an adhesive inner face intended to come into contact with the edge of the covering part;- the first fixing wing forms a substantially right angle with the support wing;- the first joining line is a fold line so that the first fixing wing can form a plurality of different angles with the support wing;- the first fixing wing comprises at least one fold line substantially parallel to the first joining line;- the support member further comprises a shim strip connected to the first fixing wing by a pre-cut line, this shim strip being intended to be placed between the first fixing wing and the flat of the covering part;- the support member further comprises a second fixing wing connected to the support wing by a second junction line and / or to the first fixing wing by a third junction line, the second and third junction lines being substantially perpendicular to the first junction line; - the housing is elastic.;
[0017] Secondly, an assembly is proposed comprising - the support member presented above; - a permanent magnet, in particular a neodymium magnet.
[0018] Other characteristics and advantages of the invention will appear more clearly and concretely on reading the following description of embodiments, which is given with reference to the appended drawings in which:
[0019] the figure shown above schematically illustrates the installation of an opening detector on an overlapping opening according to the state of the art;
[0020] the figure is a first perspective view of a support member for placing on an opening covering a permanent magnet of an opening detector according to various embodiments;
[0021] the figure is a second perspective view of said support member according to various embodiments;
[0022] the figure schematically illustrates the installation of an opening detector on an overlapping opening according to various embodiments;
[0023] the figure schematically illustrates a support member for the installation on an opening covering a permanent magnet of an opening detector according to various embodiments.
[0024] Referring to the attached figures, a support member5 (or a support element) is shown for the installation, on an overlapping opening provided with a covering part1, of a permanent magnet3 of an opening detector of said overlapping opening. The covering part1 comprises a flat11 and an edge12 (or a flank). The flat11 is substantially parallel to the plane of the overlapping opening. The edge12 is perpendicular to the plane of the overlapping opening.
[0025] The support member 5 comprises a fixing wing 6 (a flap or a strip) intended to be fixed on the flat 11 of the covering part 1. This fixing wing 6 is, in one embodiment, substantially flat.
[0026] The support member5 further comprises a support wing7 (a flap or a strip) intended to be placed against (or to come into contact with) the edge12 of the covering part1. This support wing7 comprises a housing8 intended to receive the permanent magnet3 or, more generally, an element emitting a permanent magnetic field.
[0027] The housing8 projects from the support wing7. In one embodiment, the housing8 is a recess or cavity provided in the support wing7. This cavity can be accessible from the inner face71 of the support wing7 (the one intended to come into contact with the wafer12). The inner face71 of the support wing7 is substantially planar. In another embodiment, the housing8 is an armature capable of retaining the permanent magnet3. This armature can be accessible from the outer face72 of the support wing7 (the outer face72 being opposite the inner face71 of the support wing7). Such access makes it possible to insert or remove the permanent magnet3 without having to remove the support member5 from the covering portion1. In one embodiment, the housing8 is elastic so that it is capable of retaining permanent magnets of different sizes with sufficient fixation.For this purpose, the housing8 may comprise slots, elastic walls and / or elastic return means. In another embodiment, the dimensions of the housing8 are chosen to be substantially equal to those of the permanent magnet3 so that the latter can be inserted into the housing8 with a certain amount of tightness. The housing8 has a generally elongated shape extending parallel to an axial direction of the support wing7.
[0028] In one embodiment illustrated by Figures 2 and 3, the fixing wing 6 and the support wing 7 are substantially perpendicular to each other. The two wings 6, 7 join in a right-angle or L-shaped arrangement (i.e., they meet at a substantially right angle) on a joining line 9 (or edge). This advantageously results in the support member 5 being in the form of a right-angle or angle iron capable of matching a substantially right angle between the flat 11 and the edge 12 of the covering part 1. In another embodiment, the fixing wing 6 forms an obtuse or acute angle with the support wing 7 so that the support member 5 is capable of matching a corresponding angle between the flat 11 and the edge 12 of the covering part 1.
[0029] The fixing wing and the support wing are, in one embodiment, assembled at a rigid angle. In other words, the fixing wing forms a rigid angle with the support wing. This assembly angle can be straight, obtuse or acute.
[0030] In one embodiment, one or more ribs10 connecting the two wings6,7 and substantially perpendicular to the junction line9 are provided so that the support member5 is able to fit a rounded right angle between the flat11 and the edge12 of the covering part1. In one embodiment, the fixing wing6 and the support wing7 are joined by a cut-off face (i.e. a cut-off support member5).
[0031] More generally, the fixing wing6 and the support wing7 are connected to each other by the junction line9 (or edge). In other words, the fixing wing6 and the support wing7 meet on (or are joined by) the junction line9.
[0032] The fixing wing has, in one embodiment, a first position relative to the support wing in which this fixing wing is substantially perpendicular to the support wing. In this first position, the fixing wing forms a substantially right angle with the support wing. In the example of the, the fixing wing and the support wing are connected to each other by the junction line so as to form a rigid right angle.
[0033] The junction line is, in one embodiment, substantially straight. The fixing wing and the support wing are of substantially rectangular outline. These two wings of the support member are joined by a common junction edge forming the straight junction line.
[0034] The joining line is, in another embodiment, a fold line such that the attachment wing can have a second position relative to the support wing in which the attachment wing forms an obtuse angle or an acute angle with the support wing. More generally, the joining line is a fold line such that the attachment wing can form a plurality of different angles with the support wing. This plurality of positions that the attachment wing can have relative to the support wing includes, in one embodiment, the first position in which the attachment wing is substantially perpendicular to the support wing. To facilitate this folding, the joining line includes, in one embodiment, weakenings such as slots, scratches, or grooves provided in the joining line.This advantageously results in the support member being able to be placed on a covering portion whose edge is not necessarily perpendicular to the flat. Furthermore, thanks to this folding line, the fixing wing and the support wing can, when packaging the support member, be placed against each other or substantially in the same plane in order to reduce the space occupied by this support member.
[0035] In another embodiment, the fixing wing6 comprises one or more fold lines13 substantially parallel to the joining line9. These fold lines13 delimit strips allowing the support member5 to perfectly match a curve connecting the flat11 and the edge12 of the covering part1.
[0036] For its attachment to the flat of the covering part, the fixing wing comprises, in one embodiment, an adhesive inner face (the inner face being the one intended to come into contact with the flat). For this, a plurality of double-sided adhesive pads or a double-sided adhesive strip, in particular with high adhesion, may be arranged on the inner face of the fixing wing. For example, a high-performance double-sided acrylic adhesive strip (better known under the designation "VHB", an abbreviation for "Very High Bond") is placed on the inner face of the fixing wing. In certain embodiments, the inner face of the support wing is also adhesive for the purpose of even more secure attachment of the support member to the covering part. Peelable layers protect the adhesive faces of the support member, before it is placed on the overlapping opening.
[0037] Alternatively or in combination, holes provided in the fixing wing may be considered for screw fixing of the fixing wing to the plate. In fact, the fixing wing advantageously allows these holes to be provided at a sufficient distance from the edges of the covering part to avoid its deterioration.
[0038] As can be seen in the, due to its structure, the support member5 advantageously allows the magnet to be placed on the side or edge12 (in the thickness of the edge12) and not on the flat11 of the covering part1 so that it is in the immediate vicinity of the magnetically controlled switch4 when the overlapping opening is in the closed position. This proximity is optimal, ensuring maximum reliability of the operation of the opening detector.
[0039] The permanent magnet is, in one embodiment, a neodymium magnet (a neodymium-iron-boron magnet) or, more generally, a magnet comprising an alloy of neodymium, iron, and boron. A neodymium magnet is compact and has an advantageous magnetism-to-size ratio. This advantageously results in a discreet support member promoting suitable aesthetics. The neodymium magnet is, in one embodiment, cylindrical in shape (for example, 3mm x 20mm, 3mm x 15mm, or 3mm x 10mm) and axially polarized. A protective layer and / or adhesive strip disposed on the inner face of the support wing covers the permanent magnet disposed in the housing.
[0040] The support member comprises, in another embodiment, at least one shim strip connected to the fixing wing by a pre-cut line (a low-resistance line). A pre-cut line here means any line of grooving, perforations, or thinning, the technique used to produce this weakening line being a function, as is known per se, of the type of material of the support member. The shim strip is therefore detachable from the support member and / or foldable at the pre-cut line. The shim strip is of dimensions substantially identical to those of the fixing wing. A plurality of shim strips connected to the free edges of the fixing wing and / or connected to each other by pre-cut lines may also be envisaged. The shim strip 14 comprises, in one embodiment, at least one adhesive face intended to be fixed to the flat 11 of the covering part 1.
[0041] The shim strip is intended to be placed between the fixing wing and the flat of the covering part to serve as a shim, if necessary. Otherwise, the shim strip can be easily detached from the support member. This shim strip advantageously allows the support member to be adapted to a covering part whose edge is less thick than the width of the support wing. The support member is thus suitable for overlapping openings having covering parts of different thicknesses.
[0042] In another embodiment, the support member comprises a second fixing wing 16, 17 connected to the support wing by a second junction line 18 and / or to the first fixing wing by a third junction line 19. The second and third junction lines 18, 19 are substantially perpendicular to the first junction line 9. This second fixing wing 16, 17 is intended to be fixed on a second edge of the covering part 1 perpendicular to the first edge 12 so that the support member can be placed in an angle (a corner) of the covering part 1. This results in better fixing and stability of the support member, in particular when the overlapping opening is subjected to impacts against the frame several times a day when it is opened and especially when it is closed.
[0043] In one embodiment, at least one of the joining lines 9, 18, 19 is a pre-cut line allowing the corresponding fixing wing 6, 16, 17 to be detached, if necessary, from the support member 5. A support member 5 limited to the support wing 7 having an adhesive internal face 71 can therefore be envisaged. A support member 5 limited to the second fixing wing 16 having an adhesive internal face (the one intended to come into contact with the second wafer) and the support wing 7 (possibly having an adhesive internal face 71) can also be envisaged.
[0044] In some embodiments, any one of the attachment wings 6, 16, 17 is in the form of one or more attachment tabs or lugs connected to and extending from the support wing 7 by the corresponding joining line 9, 18, 19.
[0045] The support member can be made of plastic, in particular rigid or semi-rigid, such as ABS (for Acrylonitrile Butadiene Styrene), or any other similar material.
[0046] The embodiments described above advantageously allow for simple, rapid and reliable installation of the opening detectors. Furthermore, fixing the permanent magnet3 as close as possible to the free edge of the overlapping part1 allows the magnetically controlled switch4 to be fixed far from the edge of the frame2 within the limit of a maximum distance of the permanent magnet3. This thus simplifies the installation of the opening detectors on overlapping openings.
[0047] Although the support member is described above with respect to embodiments and variations, those skilled in the art will understand that these embodiments and variations are not limiting and may be combined with each other and / or with any other equivalent embodiment.
