Abstract
Description
DESCRIPTION Title: Method and device for controlling a multi-screen display system embedded in a vehicle 5 The present invention claims priority from French application 2210382 filed on 11.10.2022, the content of which (text, drawings and claims) is incorporated herein by reference. technical field
[0001] The present invention relates to methods and devices for controlling an embedded vehicle display system, in particular a display system comprising a plurality of display devices. The present invention also relates to a method and device for displaying content on multiple display screens. 15 Technological background
[0002] Many modern vehicles incorporate multiple display screens, including, for example, one or more touchscreens. These display screens are used, for instance, to show information useful for driving the vehicle, such as for controlling and operating the vehicle's systems. 20 infotainment system, also called IVI system (from the English "In-Vehicle Infotainment" or in French "Infodivertissement étoilé") and / or other systems embedded in the vehicle such as for example the air conditioning system and the vehicle navigation system.
[0003] Each display screen in a multi-screen system is controlled 25. Independently of the other screens in the system, system customization must be carried out for each screen, with the vehicle stationary, via an edit mode, one after the other, using the touch interface of the screen in question when it exists, control buttons integrated into the dashboard, steering wheel controls, or a remote control device such as a touchpad (from English "Touchpad"), rotary dial or touch button (from the English "Touchwheel") for example integrated into the vehicle's center console.
[0004] These limitations in controlling the different screens of a vehicle make using the screens complicated, unintuitive and do not allow easy access to the different 5 pieces of information displayed.
[0005] Summary of the present invention
[0006] One object of the present invention is to solve at least one of the problems of the technological background described above. [OOOitJ Another object of the present invention is to improve the control of a display system with multiple display devices (also called display screens).
[0008] According to a first aspect, the present invention relates to a method for controlling a display system embedded in a vehicle, the display system comprising a first display device with a touch interface, a second display device and a control device associated with the first display device and the second display device, the method comprising the following steps: - display of a set of graphical human-machine interfaces, known as HMIs, on the first display device, the set of HMIs comprising a first HMI displayed on a first part of the first display device and associated with a first 20 interactive application and a second HMI displayed on a second part of the first display device and associated with a second interactive application; - receipt of a first request to display the first graphic content associated with the first interactive application on the second display device, the first request being received from a first part of the touch interface associated with the first 25 part of the first display device associated with the first interactive application; - display of the first graphic content on the second display device; - control of a first set of functions associated with the first graphic content via the first part of the touch interface and of a second set of functions associated with the first graphic content via the control device.
[0009] Such a process makes it possible to control the display of content associated with an interactive application (from the English "widget") on a second screen from a first screen, and to control functions related to the content displayed on the second screen both from the first screen, via the latter's touch interface, and 5 from a control device (e.g. a touchpad or a touch or non-touch rotary knob).
[0010] Such a solution allows the use of multiple display devices from the same system in a complementary manner, which facilitates access to information and improves the user experience. [OOIilQ According to one variant, the method further includes a step of modifying content from the first GUI displayed on the first part of the first display device when the first graphic content is displayed on the second display device, in order to switch from original content to modified content comprising a set of graphic objects configured to control the first set of 15 functions.
[0012] According to another variant, the process further includes the following steps: - receiving a second request to end the display of the first graphic content on the second display device from the first part of the touch interface; - modification of the content of the first GUI displayed on the first part of the first 20 display device following the receipt of the second request to switch from the modified content to the original content.
[0013] According to a further variant, the process also includes a step of displaying specific content on the second display device to replace the first graphic content following the receipt of the second 25 requests.
[0014] According to yet another variant, the process also includes the following steps: - receipt of a third request to display a second graphical content associated with the second interactive application on the second display device, the third request being received from a second part of the touch interface associated with the 30 second part of the first display device associated with the second application interactive; - display of the second graphic content on a second part of the second display device, the second graphic content being displayed on a second part of the second display device; 5 - control of a third set of functions associated with the second graphic content via the second part of the touch interface of the first touch display device and of a fourth set of functions associated with the second graphic content via the control device.
[0015] According to an additional variant, the process further includes a distribution of a 10 display area of the second display device between the first graphic content and the second graphic content.
[0016] According to another variant, the set of HMIs displayed on the first display device also includes at least a third HMI.
[0017] According to a second aspect, the present invention relates to a control device for a 15 display system embedded in a vehicle, the device comprising a memory associated with a processor configured for the implementation of the steps of the process according to the first aspect of the present invention.
[0018] According to a third aspect, the present invention relates to a display system comprising a device as described above according to the second aspect of the 20 present invention and at least two display devices connected in communication to the device as described above according to the second aspect of the present invention.
[0019] According to one variant, the display system further includes a remote control device connected in communication to the device as described above according to the second aspect of the present invention. [002£^ According to a fourth aspect, the present invention relates to a vehicle, for example of the automobile type, comprising a device as described above according to the second aspect of the present invention or a display system as described above according to the third aspect of the present invention.
[0021] According to a fifth aspect, the present invention relates to a computer program which includes instructions adapted for carrying out the steps of the process according to the first aspect of the present invention, in particular when the computer program is executed by at least one processor.
[0022] Such a computer program can use any programming language, and be in the form of source code, object code, or an intermediate form between source code and object code, such as in a partially compiled form, or in any other desirable form.
[0023] According to a sixth aspect, the present invention relates to a recording medium 10 readable by a computer on which is recorded a computer program comprising instructions for carrying out the steps of the process according to the first aspect of the present invention.
[0024] On the one hand, the recording medium can be any entity or device capable of storing the program. For example, the medium may include a means 15 storage, such as a ROM, CD-ROM or microelectronic circuit type ROM, or a magnetic recording medium or a hard disk drive.
[0025] On the other hand, this recording medium can also be a transmissible medium such as an electrical or optical signal, such a signal being able to be transmitted via an electrical or optical cable, by conventional or radio frequency, by self-directing laser beam, or by other means. The computer program according to the present invention can, in particular, be downloaded from an Internet-type network.
[0026] Alternatively, the recording medium may be an integrated circuit in which the computer program is incorporated, the integrated circuit being adapted to run or 25 to be used in the execution of the process in question. Brief description of the figures
[0027] Other features and advantages of the present invention will become apparent from the description of the specific and non-limiting embodiments of the present invention below, with reference to the attached Figures 1 to 5, in which:
[0028] [Fig. 1] schematically illustrates a vehicle, according to a particular and non-limiting embodiment 5 of the present invention;
[0029] [Fig. 2] schematically illustrates a display system embedded in the vehicle of figure 1, according to a particular and non-limiting embodiment of the present invention;
[0030] [Fig. 3] schematically illustrates the display of content by the display system of Figure 2, according to a particular and non-limiting embodiment of the present invention;
[0031] [Fig. 4] schematically illustrates a device configured to control the display system of figure 2, according to a particular and non-limiting embodiment of the present invention;
[0032] [Fig. 5] illustrates a flowchart of the different stages of a control process for the display system of figure 2, according to a particular and non-limiting embodiment of the present invention.
[0033] Description of examples of achievements [0032Q A method and a control device for an on-board display system in a vehicle will now be described in what follows with joint reference to Figures 1 to 5. The same elements are identified with the same reference signs throughout the description that follows. [003S] Figure 1 schematically illustrates part of a vehicle passenger compartment 10, according to a particular and non-limiting embodiment of the present invention.
[0036] Figure 1 shows a view of the interior of a vehicle 10, in particular of the front part of the passenger compartment of the vehicle 10 including in particular the steering wheel and the dashboard of the vehicle 10.
[0037] Vehicle 10, for example, corresponds to a vehicle with an internal combustion engine, with engine(s) 5 electric vehicles or a hybrid vehicle with a combustion engine and one or more electric motors. Vehicle 1 thus corresponds, for example, to a land vehicle, for example a car, a truck, a bus.
[0038] According to the example in Figure 1, vehicle 10 carries several display devices (a display device is also called a screen or display screen), namely a 10 first display screen 101 and a second display screen 102. Of course, the number of display devices forming the set of display devices on board the vehicle 10 is not limited to 2, but extends to any number, for example 3, 4 or more display devices.
[0039] The first display screen 101, for example, is integrated into a central console of the 15 vehicle 10 and the second display screen 102 is, for example, integrated into the dashboard of vehicle 10. The arrangement of the display screens is, however, arbitrary; the first screen 101 could, for example, be integrated into the dashboard, at the bottom of the windshield, the second screen 102 being, for example, arranged at the base of the windshield when the first screen 101 is arranged at the level of the 20 dashboard.
[0040] Each display device 101, 102 corresponds, for example, to an LCD (Liquid Crystal Display) type screen, for example, a TFT (Thin-Film Transistor) type screen, or an OLED (Organic Light-Emitting Diode) type screen. 25 or in French "Organic light-emitting diode").
[0041] In another example, one or more display devices belonging to the set of display devices installed in the vehicle 10 corresponds to a transparent screen, suitable for displaying images or graphic content while allowing visibility through it. Such a screen is, for example, arranged on the 30 dashboard in front of the windshield, in head-up position. Such a transparent screen This corresponds, for example, to an LCD panel and a TFT type panel (Thin-Film Transistor). Such a screen thus forms a head-up display (also called Head-Up Display, HUD).
[0042] The first display screen 101 advantageously corresponds to a so-called touch screen in that a touch interface is associated with the screen of the display device 101. Such a touch interface allows a user to interact with the graphic content displayed on this screen 101 in a tactile way, for example by clicking via a touch press on icons to open new pages of the displayed graphic interface, to navigate through menus by swiping the screen up and down, to enlarge or reduce a window by spreading or bringing together two fingers, etc.
[0043] According to one embodiment, the second display screen 102 is also touch-sensitive.
[0044] According to a particular embodiment, one of the on-board display devices 15 in the vehicle 10, for example the first display device 101, corresponds to a screen of a mobile communication device (for example, a smartphone or tablet) connected wirelessly or via a wired connection to the vehicle 10. Such a mobile communication device advantageously includes a display screen configured to display graphical content generated by one or more human-machine interfaces, including a graphical user interface. The graphical user interface displayed on the screen of the mobile communication device, corresponding for example to the first display device 101, corresponds, for example, to a graphical user interface of an operating system installed on the mobile communication device (for example, Android® or iOS from Apple®) or to a graphical user interface. 25 of a mobile application installed or running on the mobile communication device.
[0045] Wireless connectivity relies, for example, on Bluetooth® or Wi-Fi® technology, such as Wi-Fi Direct (according to IEEE 802.11, for example, IEEE 802.11n or IEEE 802.11ac). Alternatively, the connection can be wired, for example, using a USB 3.0 cable (Universal Serial Bus).
[0046] The vehicle 10 also includes a control device 103 configured to remotely control the display of graphic content (images, graphic icons, text information, etc.). Such a control device 103 corresponds, for example, to a touchpad, a dial or rotary knob (with or without a touch surface) or 5 to any other device allowing for example to move a cursor on the first display device 101 and / or the second display device 102, to navigate in menus displayed on the first display device 101 and / or the second display device 102, to select an entry in these menus and / or a graphic object (an icon) displayed on the first display device 101 and / or the second display device 102, for example to control the execution of a function associated with the selected icon.
[0047] The first display device 101 and the second display device 102 form all or part of a display system embedded in the vehicle 10, an example of which is described opposite Figure 2. 15
[0048] Figure 2 schematically illustrates a display system 20 embedded in the vehicle 10, according to a particular and non-limiting embodiment of the present invention.
[0049] The display system 20 illustrated in Figure 2 advantageously comprises the first 20 display device 101 and the second display device 102, as well as a control device 201 connected in communication with the first display device 101 and the second display device 102.
[0050] The control device 201 advantageously corresponds to a vehicle computer 10, for example the computer in charge of the vehicle infotainment system 25 10, known as the IVI computer (from the English "In-Vehicle Infotainment" or in French "Onboard infotainment").
[0051] Such an IVI computer belongs to a network of vehicle computers, also called the vehicle's embedded system. The vehicle computers advantageously form a multiplexed architecture for implementing different services. useful for the proper functioning of the vehicle. The computers communicate and exchange data with each other via one or more computer buses, for example a CAN data bus (Controller Area Network). 5 FD (from the English "Controller Area Network Flexible Data-Rate" or in French "Flexible data rate controller network"), FlexRay (according to ISO 17458) or Ethernet (according to ISO / IEC 802-3).
[0052] According to one embodiment, the control device 201 corresponds to a computing unit of a mobile communication device (for example, an io smartphone or a tablet), for example when the first display device 101 corresponds to the screen of such a wireless communication device connected wirelessly to the vehicle 10, for example via a telematic control unit, known as a TCU (from the English "Telematic Control Unit"), which TCU belongs to the vehicle's on-board system 10. [005fî] The control device 201 also controls the command device 103 to which it is connected via, for example, one or more data buses. The control device 201 receives, for example, data representing command(s) from the command device 103, this data being transformed into a control request for the content(s) displayed on the first display device 101 and / or the second display device 102.
[0054] The display system 20 of Figure 2 is advantageously configured to allow control of content displayed, for example, on the second display device 102 via, for example, the touch interface of the first display device 101, for a first set of determined commands or controls, and via the control device 25 103, for a second set of determined commands or controls.
[0055] Such a system 20 allows, in particular thanks to the control device 201 which ensures the link between all the elements 101, 102 and 103 forming the system 20, a complementarity of the different display devices 101, 102, improving for example the readability of the information by the driver of the vehicle 10 (which improves the safety 30 of the vehicle 10) and the user-friendliness of the data display system of the vehicle 10.
[0056] An example of a control process for display system 20 is described opposite Figure 3 below.
[0057] Figure 3 schematically illustrates a control process for the display system 5 of the display 20 embedded in the vehicle 10, according to a particular and non-limiting embodiment of the present invention.
[0058] The process is advantageously implemented by a device embedded in the vehicle 10, for example the control device 201, which may take the form of a computer. An example of a hardware implementation of such a control device 201 is described opposite Figure 4.
[0059] In a first operation, a set of graphical contents noted A, B and C are displayed on the first display device 101, the display of these contents being controlled by the controlled device 201. Each content A, B and C corresponds for example to the content of a graphical human-machine interface 31, 32, 33 each 15 associated with an interactive application, also called an interactive tile (from the English "widget").
[0060] According to the example in Figure 3, the content A, B, C associated with three interactive thumbnails 31, 32, 33 is displayed simultaneously on the first display device 101. The screen surface 101 is divided into three parts, either of the same dimensions or of different dimensions, with one interactive thumbnail associated with each part. Of course, the number of content items associated with interactive thumbnails is not limited to 1 but can be any number, for example, 1, 2, 4, or 5 items displayed simultaneously.
[0061] Interactive tile 31, for example, corresponds to a navigation application; interactive tile 32, for example, corresponds to an air conditioning application for vehicle 25; while the third tile, 33, corresponds, for example, to an entertainment application, for example, for playing music content (for example, stored in the memory of a device connected to the vehicle or obtained from a cloud server via a wireless connection, for example, by streaming). Of course, the type The application associated with interactive thumbnails 31 to 33 is not limited to the previous examples but extends to any type (e.g., video content playback application, vehicle driving parameter tracking application 10, telephony application, weather application, etc.).
[0062] Graphic content denoted D is displayed on the second display device 102. Content D corresponds, for example, to a home page displayed by default when starting the vehicle 10 or when switching on the display system 20.
[0063] In a second operation, a first request to display graphic content, denoted A2, associated with the interactive thumbnail 31 on the second display device 102 is received. This first request is successfully received from a portion of the touch interface of the first display device 101 associated with the interactive thumbnail 31.
[0064] The first request is triggered for example by a touch press on the touch interface of the first display device 101 at the location of a virtual button or an icon 15 displayed in the content A of the interactive thumbnail 31. The virtual button is for example associated with a function called projection (from the English "cast") of the content A2 associated with the interactive thumbnail 31 on the second display device 102.
[0065] In a third operation, upon receipt of the first request by the control device 201, the latter triggers the relocation of the display of content A2 associated with the 20 interactive thumbnail 31 to a screen other than the screen of device 101, namely screen 102.
[0066] The first request also triggers a change in the content associated with the interactive thumbnail 31 displayed on the first display device 101. Upon receiving the first request, the control device 201 commands the display 25 of content A1 on the part of the first screen 101 reserved or dedicated to the display of the interactive thumbnail 31. The content displayed on the part of the first screen 101 reserved or dedicated to the display of the interactive thumbnail 31 thus changes from content noted A to content noted A1.
[0067] Content A1 corresponds, for example, to a set of graphic elements of the HMI of the interactive thumbnail 31 which allow control of a first set of functions to control content A2 displayed on the second display device 102. This first set of functions depends advantageously on the type of the interactive application 5 31.
[0068] Content A1 includes, for example, additional information related to interactive application 31 which complements the information displayed in content A2.
[0069] For example, when interactive application 31 corresponds to a navigation application 10, content A2 might be a road map of the environment in which vehicle 10 is traveling, showing, for example, the route that vehicle 10 must follow to reach its destination. Content A2 evolves as vehicle 10 moves by updating the road map and the route.
[0070] The first set of functions controllable from the part of the touch interface dedicated to the interactive thumbnail 31 includes, for example, a function to enter a new destination, a function to stop the guidance, a function to view the different possible routes, etc.
[0071] Receiving the first request also triggers the activation of a second one. 20 set of functions to control the A2 content displayed on the second display device 102 from the control device 103. This second set of functions includes, for example, a function to zoom in or out, rotate the displayed content, or move around the displayed road map.
[0072] The display of content A2, for example, occupies the entire surface of screen 102 25 (full screen display), with only one piece of content being displayed on this screen 102.
[0073] In a fourth operation, a first set of functions associated with the content A2 displayed on the second display device 102 is activated to be controlled via the part of the touch interface of the screen 101 associated with the thumbnail interactive 31 and a second set of functions associated with content A2 is activated to be controlled via the control device 103.
[0074] In a fifth operation, a second request to end the display of the content A2 projected onto the second display device is received by the control device 201 5 from the part of the touch interface of the first display device 101 associated with the interactive thumbnail 31.
[0075] This second request is triggered for example by a touch press on the touch interface of the first display device 101 at the location of a virtual button or an icon displayed in the content A of the interactive thumbnail 31. The virtual button is for example associated with a function called end (or cancellation) of projection (from the English "cancel cast") of the content A2 associated with the interactive thumbnail 31 on the second display device 102.
[0076] Upon receipt of this second request, the display on the second display device 102 returns, for example, to the state prior to the projection of content A2, that is to say to 15 the display of content D.
[0077] Upon receipt of this second request, the display on the first display device 101 returns, for example, to the state prior to the projection of content A2, that is to say that the display on the part of the screen 101 allocated to the interactive thumbnail 31 goes from content A1 to the original content A.
[0073] In a sixth operation, a third request to display graphic content, denoted C2, associated with the interactive thumbnail 33 on the second display device 102 is received. This third request is advantageously received from a portion of the touch interface of the first display device 101 associated with the interactive thumbnail 33.
[0072] The third request is for example triggered by a touch press on the touch interface of the first display device 101 at the location of a virtual button or an icon displayed in the content C of the interactive thumbnail 33. The virtual button is for example associated with a function called projection (from the English "cast") of the content C2 associated with the interactive thumbnail 33 on the second display device 102.
[0080] Upon receipt of the third request by the control device 201, the latter triggers the relocation of the display of a C2 content associated with the interactive thumbnail 33 to a screen other than the screen of device 101, namely screen 102.
[0081] The third request also triggers a content-level modification. 5 associated with the interactive thumbnail 33 displayed on the first display device 101. Upon receiving the third request, the control device 201 commands the display of content C1 on the part of the first screen 101 reserved or dedicated to displaying the interactive thumbnail 33. The content displayed on the part of the first screen 101 reserved or dedicated to displaying the interactive thumbnail 33 thus changes from content labeled C to 10 content graded C1.
[0082] Content C1 corresponds, for example, to a set of graphic elements of the HMI of the interactive thumbnail 33 which allow control of a third set of functions to control content C2 displayed on the second display device 102. This third set of functions depends advantageously on the type of the interactive application 15 33.
[0083] Content C1 includes, for example, additional information associated with interactive application 33 which complements the information displayed in content C2.
[0084] For example, when the interactive application 33 corresponds to an application of 20 media reading / management (music, video), C2 content corresponds for example to a visual on a set of content (music, video) available and / or being read.
[0085] The third set of functions controllable from the part of the touch interface dedicated to the interactive thumbnail 33 includes, for example, a function to change 25 radio bands (FM / AM), an option to add a title to favorites, a random play function, repeat, etc.
[0086] Receiving the third request also triggers the activation of a fourth set of functions to control the C2 content displayed on the second display device 102 from the control device 103. This fourth The set of functions includes, for example, a function to return to the previous title or advance to the next title, pause the playback of a title, change the source, etc.
[0087] When content is being displayed on the second display device 102 such 5 that for example the content A2, the display of the contents A2 and C2 is controlled so as to distribute the surface of the screen 102 between the 2 contents, equally or unequally according to parameters defined and associated with each of the interactive thumbnails 31, 33.
[0088] The third set of functions associated with the C2 content displayed on the second display device 102 is activated to be controlled via the part of the touch interface of the screen 101 associated with the interactive thumbnail 33 and the fourth set of functions associated with the C2 content is activated to be controlled via the control device 103, just like the second set of functions associated with the A2 content.
[0089] The end of the projection of content C2 on the second display device 102 can be controlled for example by a touch press on a button or an icon displayed in with content C1 on the part of the first screen 101 allocated to the interactive thumbnail 33.
[0090] Such a process allows for managing the display of content associated with the same interactive application / interactive tile across multiple screens and controlling functions associated with this interactive application / interactive tile via several interfaces or control devices. This process allows for projecting ("casting") content initially displayed on a first screen to a second screen, displaying a first portion of the information associated with the interactive application on the first screen and a second portion of the information associated with the interactive application (which may complement the first portion, for example) on the second screen. The content displayed on the second screen can then be controlled from the first screen and from a remote control tool such as device 103.
[0091] Such a process provides greater visibility of the content and information displayed, as well as an improved user experience.
[0092] Figure 4 schematically illustrates a device 4 configured to control a display system embedded in a vehicle, for example the display system 20 embedded in the vehicle 10, according to a particular embodiment and not 5 limiting of the present invention. Device 4 corresponds for example to a device embedded in the vehicle 10, for example a computer, for example computer 201.
[0093] Device 4 is configured for the implementation of the operations described opposite Figures 1 to 3 and / or the steps of the process described opposite Figure 5. Examples of such a device 4 include, but are not limited to, embedded electronic equipment such as a vehicle's on-board computer, an electronic control unit such as an ECU (Electronic Control Unit), a smartphone, a tablet, or a laptop computer. The elements of device 4, individually or in combination, can be integrated into a single circuit. 15 integrated, in several integrated circuits, and / or in discrete components. Device 4 can be implemented in the form of electronic circuits or software (or computer) modules or a combination of electronic circuits and software modules.
[0094] Device 4 includes one (or more) processor(s) 40 configured to execute instructions 20 for carrying out the steps of the process and / or for executing the instructions of the software embedded in Device 4. The processor 40 may include integrated memory, an input / output interface, and various circuits known to those skilled in the art. Device 4 further includes at least one memory 41, for example, volatile and / or non-volatile memory, and / or includes a memory storage device 25, which may include volatile and / or non-volatile memory, such as EEPROM, ROM, PROM, RAM, DRAM, SRAM, flash, magnetic disk, or optical disk.
[0095] The computer code of the embedded software(s) including the instructions to be loaded and executed by the processor is for example stored on memory 41.
