AI Technical Summary

Technical Problem

Existing locks with both a latch bolt and a dead bolt for remote access setups are inefficient, as the dead bolt is rarely used, leading to redundant components that increase cost, weight, and malfunction risk, while safety concerns arise from forcing the latch bolt due to the dead bolt's maintenance of the lock in a closed state.

Method used

A lock design featuring a latch bolt with a rotatable latch bolt follower and a blocking member that prevents forced depression, utilizing a rotatable drum and blocking member to enhance safety and reduce parts, optimized for remote access setups.

Benefits of technology

The design provides enhanced safety and reliability by preventing forced latch bolt depression, reduces component redundancy, and simplifies the lock mechanism, making it suitable for outdoor use.

Abstract

A lock (1) comprising: a frame (4a, 4b, 4c); a latch bolt (2) slidably mounted on the frame between a retracted position and a projecting position; a latch bolt driver (19) rotatably mounted on the frame so that a rotation of the latch bolt driver causes a sliding motion of the latch bolt; and a locking mechanism mounted on the frame, wherein a rotation of the latch bolt driver from its rest position to its actuated position is prevented when the locking mechanism is in its locked state. The locking mechanism comprises: a latch bolt follower rotatably mounted on the so that a sliding motion of the latch bolt rotates the latch bolt follower; and a blocking member (28) rotatably mounted on the frame, wherein a rotation of the latch bolt follower is prevented when the blocking member is in its blocking position.
