Abstract
Description
[0001] WIDENING PROFILE AND DOOR SASH EQUIPPED THEREWITH
[0002] The present invention relates to a widening profile .
[0003] In particular, the invention is intended for the local widening of a leaf profile of a door, for mounting a lock and / or door handle .
[0004] Traditionally, a lock is mounted into a leaf profile of the door for locking doors . To mount such lock, a cavity is locally milled out in the relevant profile . The lock with its lock case is subsequently mounted in said cavity .
[0005] Due to the di f ferent mechanical , and sometimes also electronic, components in the lock, the lock case has a certain mounting depth . Consequently, the leaf profile in which the lock is mounted needs a certain minimum width, as otherwise the lock case would protrude from the profile .
[0006] However, for aesthetics reasons and also to save on material , there is a trend to use increasingly narrower leaf profiles for making both windows and doors . Particularly when the leaf is substantially formed by a panel that is clamped between the leaf profiles , for example a glass panel .
[0007] Considering that for locking a window leaf usually only a handle mechanism with sliding slats or rods is necessary, the leaf profiles for windows can be executed narrower than the current leaf profiles for doors , where a certain width is required for the lock case .
[0008] A maj or disadvantage is thus that the leaf profiles for slim windows and doors are not interchangeable .
[0009] Yet another disadvantage is that the minimum width of the leaf profiles of a door is determined by the mounting depth of the lock case , such that a sl im leaf profile for a door is impossible .
[0010] The purpose of the present invention is to provide a solution to at least one of the aforementioned and other disadvantages .
[0011] To this end, the invention relates to a widening profile for a leaf profile of a leaf of a door, whereby the leaf is provided with four leaf profiles , whereby the widening profile is intended to be mounted against a leaf profile on a side of the leaf profile facing the leaf , whereby the widening profile is provided with a recess for mounting a lock case of a lock .
[0012] The widening profile is thus locally applied to a leaf profile of a door where the lock case needs to be mounted .
[0013] This has the advantage that the mounting depth of the lock case is no longer restrictive for the width of the leaf profiles of the door . Apart from the aesthetic added value of slim leaf profiles , this also results in enormous material and weight gains .
[0014] The widening profile according to the invention thus ensures that leaf profiles can be produced and transported more cheaply .
[0015] Yet another maj or advantage is that the widening profile according to the invention ensures that slim leaf profiles for windows and doors are interchangeable or universal as from now . Obviously, this ensures a strong reduction in production cost , simpli fies the inventory management , etc .
[0016] Another advantage is that , because the leaf profiles can be narrower, there is more incidence of light when a glass panel or other transparent panel is used as leaf .
[0017] In a preferred embodiment , the widening profile is provided with mounting means to mount the widening profile against a leaf profile , for example in the form of a screw connection .
[0018] Preferably, the widening profile comprises two end pieces that close of f the free ends of the widening profile .
[0019] Preferably, said end pieces are formed such that on one side they are complementary to the cross-section of the widening profile , all this such that they can be partially slid or pushed into the free ends of the widening profile . Preferably, the end pieces are attached to the widening profile by one or more screw connections .
[0020] In a preferred embodiment , the end pieces are provided with one or more slots for applying an L-connector, all this such that after mounting the widening profile to the leaf profile , a first leg of the L-connector is applied in the slot of the widening profile and a second leg is applied in a longitudinal groove provided to this end in the leaf profile .
[0021] Said L-connectors provide for an extra strong connection between the widening profile and the relevant leaf profile .
[0022] Although there is mention here of an L-connector, alternatively a T-connector can also be used .
[0023] Preferably, the first leg and the second leg of the L- connector are provided with a screw, all this such that tightening the aforementioned screws stops the first leg from shi fting in the slot and stops the second leg from shi fting in the longitudinal groove .
[0024] Alternatively, the L-connector can also be provided with other locking means , for example a locking peg or block .
[0025] More alternatively, said locking means , for example in the form of the aforementioned screw, can be located on the end pieces . In a preferred embodiment , the widening profile and / or the end pieces are provided with detai ling for applying sealing strips and / or glazing beads .
[0026] For example , said detailing is executed as undercut grooves in which sealing strips and / or glazing beads can be slid, snapped or tilted .
[0027] Preferably, the leaf profile is provided with a recess which corresponds with the recess in the widening profile , whereby both recesses together define a space for a lock case .
[0028] The lock case can thus be located completely in the widening profile or can also be partially incorporated in the leaf profile .
[0029] The invention also relates to a leaf of a door, whereby the leaf is provided with four leaf profiles , in that the leaf is provided with a widening profile according to the invention .
[0030] With the intention of better showing the characteristics of the invention, a preferred embodiment of a widening profile and a leaf profile according to the invention is described hereinafter by way of an example without any limiting nature , with reference to the accompanying drawings wherein : figure 1 schematically shows a door, with a widening profile and leaf profile according to the invention; figure 2 shows a cross-section according to line I I- I I of figure 1 ; figure 3 schematically shows a perspective view of a detail of the section indicated in figure 1 by F3 ; figure 4 shows an exploded view of the widening profile and leaf profile of figure 3 .
[0031] The door 1 shown in figure 1 is formed by a fixed rectangular frame 2 with frame profiles 3 and a hingeable leaf 4 therein, with in this case four leaf profiles 4A, 4B, 4C, 4D which clamp a panel 5 .
[0032] In this case , the aforementioned panel 5 is a glass panel 5 , but said panel 5 can be manufactured in any material .
[0033] One vertical leaf profile 4A, in this case the right leaf profile 4A, is provided with a lock 6 and handle 7 in this case .
[0034] What is special about the leaf 4 according to the invention is that the width of the leaf profiles 4A, 4B, 4C, 4D, measured in a direction parallel to the plane formed by the door 1 , is uni form all the way around .
[0035] This is possible because the aforementioned lock 6 is mounted in a widening profile 8 that is provided against the aforementioned leaf profile 4A on a side of the leaf profile 4A facing the panel 5 .
[0036] The aforementioned width of the leaf profiles 4A, 4B, 4C, 4D can thus be particularly small , which looks aesthetically pleasing and moreover saves material and weight . Thanks to the invention the same leaf profiles 4A, 4B, 4C, 4D can be used for both doors 1 and windows .
[0037] To this end, the widening profile 8 i s provided with a recess 9 in which a lock case 10 of the lock 6 is mounted .
[0038] In this example , the widening profile 8 is wider than the leaf profile 4A because the entire lock case 10 is located in the widening profile 8 . Alternatively, the lock case 10 can also be partially located in the leaf profile 4A, such that the widening profile 8 could also be narrower than the leaf profile 4A. In such case the recess 9 of the widening profile 4A will correspond with a recess in the leaf profile 4A, such that both recesses together define a space for the lock case 10 .
[0039] The cross-section, as shown in figure 2 , clearly shows that the vertical leaf profiles 4A, 4C show a practically identical cross-section, albeit that the right leaf profile 4A is mirrored relative to the left leaf profile 4C .
[0040] In this example , the widening profile 8 is mounted against the right leaf profile 4A and the lock case 10 is housed in its recess 9 .
[0041] In this embodiment , the widening profile 8 is provided with mounting means 11 in the form of a screw connection 11 for attaching the widening profile 8 to the leaf profile 4A. In this example , a head 12 of a screw 13 fits closely against a side of the leaf profile 4A facing away from the leaf 4 . This implies that a shaft 14 of the screw 13 partially extends in a side of the widening profile 8 facing the leaf profile 4A.
[0042] In this example , the widening profile 8 , as is customary for the leaf profiles 4A, 4B, 4C, 4D, is provided with detailing 15 for applying sealing strips 16 and / or glazing beads 17 which clamp the aforementioned panel 5 .
[0043] Among others , this is also shown in the detail as shown in figure 3 , where glazing beads 17 are connected to the widening profile 8 and also to the leaf profile 4A for clamping the panel 5 .
[0044] The exploded view according to f igure 4 shows that an L- connector 18 , in the form of a square , forms an extra connection between the widening profile 8 and the leaf profile in question . On the one hand, a first leg 18A of said L-connector 18 is applied in a slot 19 of an end piece 20 , which closes of f a short end of the widening profile 8 and, on the other hand, a second leg 18B is applied in a longitudinal groove 21 which is provided to this end in the leaf profile 4A.
[0045] In this example , the L-connectors 18 are provided with a screw 22 in both the first leg 18A and the second leg 18B . Tightening the screws 22 ensures the first leg 18A is locked in the slot 19 and the second leg 18B is locked in the longitudinal groove 21 . In this example , the widening profile 8 comprises two end pieces 20 , one end piece 20 more speci fically closing of f one free or short end of the widening profile 8 .
[0046] In this case , the end pieces 20 are formed such that on one side they are complementary to the cross-section of the widening profile 8 . Obviously with the aim to be able to at least partially slide them into the aforementioned free ends of the widening profile 8 .
[0047] In this embodiment the end pieces 20 are attached to the widening profile 8 by means of screw connections 23 . In this example , each end piece 20 is connected to the widening profile 8 by means of two screws 24 .
[0048] The end pieces 20 are also provided with detailing 15 for applying sealing strips 16 and / or glazing beads 17 .
[0049] In this case the widening profile 8 , on the sides extending parallel with the plane formed by the leaf 4 , is provided with a perforation 25 for applying the handle 7 and a perforation 26 corresponding with a cylinder hole of the lock case 10 . The handle 7 and the lock 6 are not shown in this figure for the sake of a better visualisation of said perforations 25 , 26 .
[0050] For the simplicity of figure 4 , the glazing beads 17 , sealing strips 16 and the panel 5 are not shown either . It is understood that in practice the combination of widening profile 8 and lock 6 can be provided on any leaf profile 4 . The present invention is by no means limited to the embodiments described as an example and shown in the drawings , but a widening profile and leaf according to the invention can be realised in all kinds of forms and dimensions without departing from the scope of the invention .
