Abstract
Description
Title of the invention: Bag for a side airbag of a seat of a motor vehicle Technical field to which the invention relates
[0001] The present invention relates to the technical field of safety equipment for motor vehicles and, more specifically, to an inflatable bag for side airbags intended to equip a seat of a motor vehicle. Technological background
[0002] It is known from the state of the art to use safety devices to prevent or reduce injuries suffered by passengers of a motor vehicle during a collision. These safety devices, called airbags, consist of a bag, generally made of fabric, configured to inflate rapidly in the event of an impact, so as to interpose itself between an occupant of the motor vehicle and the hard parts of the passenger compartment. Depending on the nature of the impact, the shape and location of the airbag vary.
[0003] For example, one or more airbags may be integrated into the steering wheel or dashboard of the motor vehicle, to prevent the driver's head, torso and upper limbs from violently impacting these elements in the event of a frontal collision.
[0004] Side airbags may also be arranged in the doors or seats of the motor vehicle, so as to protect the head, thorax and pelvis of passengers when the motor vehicle suffers a side impact.
[0005] For a side airbag to function optimally, it is essential that after its bag has inflated, the bag is properly positioned between the occupant of a seat and the passenger compartment, so as to effectively fulfill its protective role.
[0006] However, it has been observed that the effectiveness of side airbags, integrated into the front seats of a motor vehicle, can vary depending on the position and thus the size of the occupant. Indeed, depending on the area of the bag impacted by the occupant of the seat, the absorption properties of the bag vary according to the distance between the impacted area and the part of the bag linked to the seat.
[0007] The invention aims to remedy this technical problem by proposing an inflatable bag for a side airbag, intended to equip a front seat of a motor vehicle, offering more uniform protection along said seat during a side impact suffered by the motor vehicle. Subject of the invention
[0008] For this purpose, the invention proposes a side airbag bag, intended to equip a seat of a motor vehicle, comprising a target face intended to be impacted by a passenger after inflation of the bag.
[0009] The invention is remarkable in that the bag comprises at least one protrusion intended to form an appendage after the bag has been inflated, and in that the appendage is oriented so as to be able to rest against the back of a seat equipped with said bag.
[0010] It should be noted that the term "appendix" refers to an outgrowth of the sac after the sac has swollen.
[0011] Advantageously, the invention provides a bag for a side airbag comprising one or more protrusions, intended to bear against the back of a seat, after inflation of the bag. Thus, advantageously compared to the prior art, the appendage(s) allow the inflated bag to bear against the back of the seat. The appendage(s) therefore allow the bag to have better support on the seat. As a result, the absorption properties of the bag are more uniform along the back of the seat equipped with said bag.
[0012] According to another advantage, the appendage(s) allow for better controlled and therefore more precise deployment of the bag along the seat, in order to provide increased safety.
[0013] According to another embodiment of the invention, the bag comprises at least one protrusion intended to form an appendage, after inflation of the bag, and the appendage is oriented so as to be able to rest against the back of a headrest of a seat equipped with said bag.
[0014] According to another embodiment of the invention, at least one appendage extends from the target face. According to a variant, at least one appendage extends from the level of the target face.
[0015] According to another embodiment of the invention, at least one appendage is adjacent to the target face.
[0016] According to another embodiment of the invention, at least one appendage extends perpendicularly or substantially perpendicularly to the target face. According to a variant, the appendage forms an angle with the target face, between 60° and 120°, preferably between 80° and 100°.
[0017] According to another embodiment of the invention, at least one appendage is of elongated shape. According to a preferred embodiment, the appendage(s) are of cylindrical or substantially cylindrical shape. The appendage(s) form horns of complementary shape to the back of the seat in order to ensure better support of the inflated bag on said seat.
[0018] According to another embodiment of the invention, the bag comprises at least two appendages and the smallest distance between two adjacent appendages is between 5 cm and 30 cm, preferably between 10 cm and 20 cm.
[0019] According to another embodiment of the invention, at least one appendage has a length between 5 cm and 25 cm, preferably between 10 cm and 20 cm.
[0020] According to another embodiment of the invention, the bag comprises at least two protrusions, each protrusion is intended to form an appendage after inflation of the bag, each appendage is oriented so as to be able to rest against the back of a seat equipped with the bag, and the appendages are parallel or substantially parallel to each other.
[0021] Of course, the various features, variants and embodiments mentioned above can be combined with each other, in various combinations, to the extent that they are not incompatible or exclusive.
[0022] The invention also relates to a side airbag for a motor vehicle comprising a bag as described above.
[0023] The invention also relates to a seat comprising an airbag described above. Preferably, the airbag is fitted to a front seat of a motor vehicle. Description of figures
[0024] The invention will be better understood from the following description, which relates to preferred embodiments, given as non-limiting examples, and explained with reference to the appended schematic drawings, in which:
[0025] [Fig. 1] is a perspective representation of a side airbag bag according to the invention, in the folded position;
[0026] [Fig.2] is a perspective representation of the bag illustrated by [Fig.l], after inflation;
[0027] [Fig.3] is a perspective representation of a seat for a motor vehicle, equipped with a side airbag comprising a bag as illustrated by [Fig.2];
[0028] [Fig.4] is a perspective representation of an alternative embodiment of a bag according to the invention, after inflation. Detailed description of the invention
[0029] As a reminder, the invention proposes an inflatable bag for a side airbag, intended to equip a front seat of a motor vehicle, offering more uniform protection along said seat, in the event of a side impact suffered by the motor vehicle.
[0030] [Fig.l] illustrates a non-limiting embodiment of a bag 2A according to the invention. The bag is intended to be part of a side airbag, for example integrated into the seat of a motor vehicle.
[0031] The bag 2A visible in [Fig.l], in the folded position, comprises a main part 4. Two protrusions 6 extend from one side 8 of the main part 4 of the bag. The bag 2A also comprises a tip 10, located between the two protrusions 6, extending from the same side 8 of the main part of the bag.
[0032] The nozzle 6 is intended to allow rapid inflation of the bag 2A, in order to take a shape as illustrated in [Fig.2].
[0033] Once inflated, the main part 4 of the bag adopts a shape similar to a pillow and each protrusion 6 forms an appendage 12. The appendages extend along the same direction which is perpendicular or substantially perpendicular to a large face of the main part 4.
[0034] More precisely, each appendage 12 extends from a large face of the main part 4 of the bag, called the target face, because the target face is intended to be struck by a passenger, occupying a seat equipped with a side airbag provided with a bag 2A according to the invention.
[0035] Each appendage 12 forms an angle with the target face, the value of which is between 60° and 120°, or between 80° and 100°, preferably of the order of 90°.
[0036] According to the present example, the appendages 12 are parallel to each other, and separated by a distance of between 5 cm and 30 cm, preferably between 10 cm and 20 cm.
[0037] The length of the appendages 12 is between 10 cm and 30 cm, preferably between 13 cm and 22 cm.
[0038] The appendages 12 have a cylindrical or substantially cylindrical shape, and their diameter varies over their length between 5 cm and 20 cm, preferably between 8 cm and 12 cm.
[0039] Advantageously, as illustrated by [Fig. 3], the appendages 12 have a shape complementary or substantially complementary to the back of a seat 14 for a motor vehicle, as well as to the back of a headrest 16 of said seat, in order to allow better support of the bag 2A on the seat 18 when said bag is inflated.
[0040] Advantageously, the appendages 12 allow more precise positioning of the bag along the seat 18, when the bag is inflated.
[0041] According to another advantage, the appendages 12 allow greater stability of the bag when its target face is impacted by the passenger of the seat. As a result, the absorption properties of the bag are more homogeneous along the seat 18. Thus, the presence of the appendages 12 gives the bag 2A increased adaptability with respect to the size and / or position of the passenger of the chair, because the target face of the bag absorbs an impact on its surface more homogeneously, thanks to a more precise and more stable positioning of the inflated bag along the seat 18.
[0042] [Fig. 4] illustrates another variant of a bag according to the invention. The bag 2B visible in [Fig. 4] differs from the bag 2A visible in [Fig. 2], in that once inflated, the main part 4 of the bag 2B is extended by a first additional pocket 20 and a second additional pocket 22. The first and second additional pockets are respectively intended to protect the head and the pelvis of a passenger, occupying a seat equipped with an airbag provided with said bag 2B.
