Description

Title of the invention: Device for controlling locking fittings for door or window type joinery

[0001] The present invention relates to a locking fitting control device for door or window type joinery comprising 1 housing having 1 application face intended to be applied to 1 joinery profile and comprising at least two hooking members acting in opposition and designed to engage in an opening adapted in said joinery profile, these hooking members constituting, in combination with the application face of the housing, means for fixing the control device in said opening of the joinery profile. The invention also relates to joinery comprising such a half-opening device.

[0002] The present invention relates to the field of fittings for door or window type joinery, more particularly, that of locking fittings. This invention relates more specifically to the control devices of these locking fittings for surface mounting on door or window type joinery, the fixed frame and the opening frame of which are formed by tubular profiles, in particular metal, even if the invention is not limited to this type of material composing this fixed frame and this opening frame.

[0003] The invention will also find particular interest in the field of control fittings for application to sliding window frames.

[0004] Multiple locking hardware control devices for joinery corresponding to the above description are already known.

[0005] In particular, document FR 2761 718 discloses a locking fitting control device for application to sliding openings. This device comprises a housing in which a cup-shaped control handle is mounted so as to be movable in translation, longitudinally. This housing is designed to be inserted into a slot provided in the inner wall of a profile of the sliding opening. For this purpose, said housing also comprises a peripheral rim provided to be applied to the outer periphery of this slot in the profile. Fixing elements which are fitted at the transverse ends of the housing in its part introduced into said slot of the profile ensure, in combination with this peripheral rim and the action of fixing screws, a pinching effect on the thickness of the wall of the profile around this slot to fix the control device in the latter.

[0006] The fixing screws, here essential to ensure this pinching effect on the edges of the light in the profile of the joinery, lead to risks of loosening or even loss of screws, not to mention that their installation and tightening correspond to time-consuming operations when equipping a joinery with this type of locking hardware control device.

[0007] Furthermore, document FR 2 761 719 discloses a control device for surface-mounted locking fittings, again for sliding openings, comprising, as previously, a housing designed to extend into an opening made in the wall, on the internal side of the dwelling, of a tubular sliding opening profile. This housing houses, in a sliding manner, a cup handle and comprises a peripheral support edge designed to come into contact with this internal side of the profile, on the periphery of said opening. At the transverse ends of this housing, in its part extending into the opening of the joinery profile, this control device also comprises fixing members provided with means capable of extending under the peripheral edge of this opening so as to exert a tensile force on the housing having the consequence of applying the peripheral support edge of this housing to the internal side of the profile.

[0008] One of these fixing members is in the form of a wedge mounted to move in translation at one of these ends of the housing, between a retracted position and a locking position in which this wedge is returned by a spring. Thus, when the housing is engaged in the opening, this wedge is elastically retracted before returning to its locking position in which a rim forming a step engages under the internal edge of this opening, opposing the extraction of the housing from this opening and maintaining the peripheral support rim of this housing in application on the internal side of the profile.

[0009] The other fixing member, located at the opposite end of the housing, takes the form of a similar wedge except that it is fixed. This wedge comprises, again, opposite the peripheral edge of the opening, 1 rim, forming a step which is engaged, at the time of assembly, on the edge of the opening, before inserting the opposite end of the housing into the latter by forcing the previously described fixing member to move back, by compression of the elastic return means.

[0010] Document FR 2 861 788 describes an identical locking fitting control device in which the two fixing members at the ends of the housing are provided to be movable against the action of elastic return means. Such a configuration is of course more complex in comparison with a control device comprising only a single movable fixing member, complexity resulting in a higher manufacturing cost.

[0011] Currently on the market are tubular profiles, particularly metallic or other, for door or window type joinery, which are distinguished by the thickness of their walls.

[0012] As appears on the control fittings described, in particular in document FR 2 761 719, the edge forming a step of the wedge of the fixing member(s) defines, with the face of the support edge coming into contact with the external peripheral edge of the opening, a dihedral in which the edge of this opening is inscribed according to a depth depending on the thickness of the wall of the profile.

[0013] Figures 1 and 2 attached represent schematic sectional views of a configuration corresponding to this state of the art, namely:

[0014] . [Fig.l] [Fig.l] represents a schematic view and in longitudinal section of a control device corresponding to the state of the art, applied to a joinery profile with low wall thickness;

[0015] [Fig.2] [Fig.2] is a view similar to [Fig.l], the prior art control device being applied to a joinery profile of greater wall thickness.

[0016] In particular, in [Fig.l] there is illustrated a control device F according to the state of the art mounted on a profile PI whose wall is of reduced thickness e1 in comparison with that e2 of the profile P2 visible in [Fig.2] and on which the same control device F is mounted.

[0017] In these figures, it is more particularly visible that this differential thickness of the wall of the profile generates an offset D of the control device F in the opening O in which it is inserted.

[0018] It is immediately understood that this offset necessarily has an impact on the positioning of an actuating member, for example a maneuvering square, of this control device inside this opening.

[0019] The amplitude of this offset depends on the angle a of the dihedral Di. However, an angle that is too open, generating a smaller offset, produces an anchoring of less resistance compared to a more acute dihedral angle. In addition, the step-forming edge defines a ramp facilitating the removal or tearing off of the control device from the profile.

[0020] Obviously, the greater the offset, the more the actuating member of the control device cooperates under constraint with the drive mechanism of a locking fitting such as a cremone bolt or other, installed inside the profile.

[0021] If the solution to avoid such an offset of the control device in the opening provided in the profile of the joinery, whatever the thickness of the wall of this profile, consists of providing the two fixing members acting in opposition inside this opening to be mobile. This solution is, as indicated above, restrictive in terms of complexity, the greater number of parts making up the control device and which must be assembled and, imman- correctly, of cost price.

[0022] It is within the framework of an inventive approach that a solution was sought which does not impose such mobility of at least one of the two fixing members while avoiding, or at least limiting, excessively the offset which it can produce on the control device in the opening in which it is intended to be implanted, under the effect of a variation in the thickness of the wall of the profile.

[0023] In particular, it has been taken into account that the retaining force provided by a fixing member to such a control device essentially results from the effectiveness of attachment of this fixing member under the wall of the profile receiving this control device. Above all, it has been observed, in the event of traction exerted on the control device in a direction perpendicular to the wall on which it is surface-mounted, that the solutions corresponding to the state of the art and recalled above lead to exerting on the attachment members a force whose resultant does not extend in a direction opposite to that which generated it, but in the direction of detachment of this fixing member relative to the edge of the opening under which it must extend to ensure this attachment function.

[0024] Thus, the present invention relates to a locking fitting control device for door or window type joinery, comprising a housing provided with a handle and comprising an application face intended to be applied to a joinery profile, this housing comprising at least two hooking members acting in opposition and designed to engage in an opening adapted in said joinery profile, these hooking members comprising hooking means and constituting, in combination with the application face of the housing, means for fixing the control device in said opening of the joinery profile.Advantageously, at least the attachment means of a fixing member are defined by a succession of at least two attachment edges adopting a stepped arrangement relative to each other, each of these attachment edges extending essentially parallel under the application face of the housing at distinct distances relative to this application face.

[0025] Preferably, the distance separating each of these attachment edges from the application face of the housing corresponds to a given thickness of the wall of a joinery profile.

[0026] According to the invention, the housing comprises a housing, essentially longitudinal, designed to extend into the opening of a profile, this housing being totally or partially open on the front face and receiving a sliding handle, such as a cup handle, or other, the hooking member being in the form of an end wall of this housing, shaped like a staircase on one side.

[0027] Advantageously, by extending essentially parallel under the face in case application, a hooking edge is capable of generating a force resisting the case from being pulled out from the profile to which it is fixed, acting essentially in a direction opposite to the force which generates it.

[0028] Furthermore, thanks to this retention efficiency offered by a hooking edge, its depth can be optimized. In short, the depth of each stair step corresponding to a hooking edge can be relatively small so that the offset produced by a profile wall of greater thickness in comparison with a profile wall of lesser thickness is particularly small.

[0029] Other objects and advantages of the present invention will become apparent from the description below relating to an exemplary embodiment of this invention, illustrated in the figures of the attached drawings.

[0030] [[Fig.3] [Fig.3] represents a schematic view in longitudinal section of a control device according to the invention, applied to a joinery profile with a low wall thickness;

[0031] [Fig.4] [Fig.4] is a view similar to [Fig.3], the control device according to the invention being applied to a joinery profile with a greater wall thickness;

[0032] [Fig.5] [Fig.5] is an elevational representation of an exemplary device for control according to the invention;

[0033] [Fig.6] [Fig.6] is an enlarged view of detail A of [Fig.5];

[0034] [Fig.7] [Fig.7] is an enlarged view of detail B of [Fig.5].

[0035] As shown in Figures 3 to 7, the present invention relates to a control device 1 for locking hardware, such as a bolt, espagnolette, espagnolette lock or similar, for door or window type joinery.

[0036] In this regard, such a door or window usually comprises a fixed frame in which at least one opening frame is fitted. Most often, this receives, in the rebate, a locking fitting, for example a espagnolette or similar, comprising locking members, of the hook bolt or roller type, capable of cooperating with strikes fitted with the fixed frame or an adjacent opening frame. To operate such a locking fitting, a control device 1 is used, applied to one of the sides, external or preferably internal, of the opening frame in a manner capable of cooperating with the control mechanism included in the locking fitting. Through a handle 8 included in this control device 1, it can act, for example through an operating square 2 or any driver, on this control mechanism of the locking fitting.

[0037] Furthermore, whether it is joinery made of synthetic or metal material, the fixed frame, as well as the opening chassis are designed by assembling tu profiles bular, hereinafter referred to as PI or P2 profile, on which the locking fitting, the control device for this fitting, but also, for example, the articulation fittings should be attached.

[0038] According to the manufacturer, these profiles PI; P2 can be distinguished by the shape and dimensions of their section, but also by the thickness el; e2 of their wall 3 to which certain of the hardware elements of this joinery must be able to adapt, in particular, the control device 1 applied to one side 4 of these profiles PI; P2 of the opening frame.

[0039] Such a control device 1 comprises a housing 5 which can take different embodiments, for example that of a clean plate of a rosette or other. In the figures, this housing 5 comprises a housing 6, essentially longitudinal, totally or partially open on the front face 7 and accommodating, for example, a sliding handle 8 of the cup handle type or other.

[0040] Whatever its configuration, this housing 5 comprises an application face 9 intended to come into application on the external side 4 of the profile PI; P2. In the configuration corresponding to the illustrated embodiment, this application face 9 is defined by the lower face of a peripheral support rim 10 which, in this case, this housing 5 comprises.

[0041] The latter also comprises at least two hooking members 11; 12 acting in opposite directions and designed to engage in an opening O adapted in the profile PI; P2 of the joinery. Concretely, these hooking members 11; 12 constitute, in combination with the application face 9 of the housing 5, means for fixing the control device 1 in such an opening O of the profile PI; P2 of the joinery.

[0042] Each of these attachment members 11; 12 comprises attachment means 13; 14. At least the attachment means 13 of one of these attachment members 11 are provided to be retractable, depending on the case, elastically or by means of a suitable control member.

[0043] In the embodiment visible in Figures 5 to 7, the hooking members 11; 12 are located at the longitudinal ends 15; 16 of the housing 5 and act in opposite directions relative to the median plane P of this housing 5 so as to cooperate with the edge or edge 17 of the opening O. More precisely, the hooking means 13; 14 engage under this edge 17 by sandwiching it with the application face 9 defined by the peripheral support rim 10.

[0044] In this design visible in the figures, the hooking means 13 of the hooking member 11 are in the form of a needle screw 18 on which an operator can act from the front face 7 of the housing 5 by means of a suitable tool to, depending on the case, screw this needle screw 18 into a projecting position so that it can extend under the edge 17 of the opening O for the purpose of fixing the control device 1 on a profile PI; P2. Conversely, the operator can unscrew the set screw 18 if he wishes to dismantle the control device 1.

[0045] It should be taken into account that this attachment member 11 can take many other forms of embodiment, in particular that of a wedge subjected to elastic return means in the locking position, wedge comprising a rim forming a step intended to engage under the edge 17 of the opening O and, in collaboration with the application face 9, retain the control device 1 in this opening O.

[0046] According to the invention, at least the hooking means 14 of a hooking member 12 are defined by a succession of at least two hooking edges 19, 20 adopting a staircase arrangement 21 relative to each other, each of these hooking edges 19, 20 extending essentially parallel under the application face 9 of the housing 5 at distances d1, d2 distinct from the latter.

[0047] This staircase 21 is descending, relative to the application face 9, moving away from the median plane P of the housing 5. In other words, the further a step, corresponding to a hooking edge 19; 20, is distant d1; d2 from the application face 9, the further it is from this median plane P of the housing 5.

[0048] Advantageously, the distances dl; d2 separating these attachment edges 19; 20 from the application face 9 correspond to thicknesses el; e2 defined for walls 3 of profile PI; P2.

[0049] It is more particularly visible in [Fig.4] the offset D produced on the control device 1 in the opening O by a wall 3 of thickness e2 in comparison with a wall 3 of thickness. This offset D is equal to the depth p of the step defined by the hooking edge 19.

[0050] Optionally, between the application face 9 and the staircase 21 defined by the hooking edges 19, 20, the hooking member 14 may comprise a slot 22 open in the direction opposite to the median plane P of the housing 5, the upper wall 23 of which corresponds to the application face 9 of this housing 5 and the lower face 24 of which defines an acute angle [3 with this application face 9. Such a slot 22 is more particularly intended to accommodate and to enclose the edge 17 a wall 3 of profile of very small thickness. Such a configuration has the advantage of allowing the fixing of the control device 1 on metal profiles, in particular aluminum, having a generally smaller wall thickness in comparison with profiles made of synthetic material, in particular PVC.

[0051] Substantially, the hooking member 14 may be in the form of an end wall 25 of the housing 6 defined by the casing 5 and extending into the opening O. This end wall 25, located at the end 16 of the housing 5, can be shaped like a staircase 21 on its side 26 opposite the edge 17 of the opening O

[0052] At the upper end of this end wall 25, under the application face 9, the slot 22 can also be provided.

[0053] The advantages arising from the present invention consist in that a control device intended to be fixed in an opening of a joinery profile does not necessarily have to be equipped with two hooking members acting in opposition, each of them being movable, in particular under the impulse of elastic return means, to guarantee the centering of the housing of this control device relative to the said opening in the profile.

[0054] The solution according to the invention proves to be particularly economical while remedying the problem of excessive offset caused by known control devices depending on whether they are applied to profiles of greater or lesser thickness.
